17-year-old girl snatches sister’s hubby. Loveness, 26, (surname withheld) regrets asking her 17-year-old sister to stay with her, soon after she gave birth. An attempt to help her sister backfired when a woman lost her husband to her younger sibling.
The teenage sister ended up sleeping with her husband, Nelson Mutimbire, 28, and fell pregnant. Mutimbire, a cotton farmer, then decided to dump his wife and marry her younger sister.
Loveness’ belongings were packed in a car and she was driven from Muzarabani to Buhera, where she was dumped. Mutimbire confirmed dumping Loveness and marrying her younger sister.
But, for Loveness, it has all been tears. “My sister paid me back for educating her by wrecking my marriage and creating a miserable period of physical and emotional abuse,” she said.
“I have unanswered questions boiling within me relating to the decision made by my sister, and worse still, by my father-in-law, in leading my husband to dump me at my parents’ house. “Misodzi yangu haisi kupera zuva nezuva, ndakashungurudzwa ndichirohwa zuva rega rega nekuda kwemwana wamai vangu.
“These three are too cruel. “As we speak I am now a maid, getting a few dollars per month but I was earning much more from the sweat of my labour, growing cotton and tomatoes.”
Her mother, Rebecca Chipetu, blamed her husband and her son, Prosper, for receiving the lobola for the younger sister in Muzarabani, where they had gone to settle the dispute.
“Loveness failed to take my advice when I suggested that her Grade Two younger sister was better positioned to help her than her other sister because I wanted to avoid this,” said Chipetu.
“Ndakazviona kuti musikana uyu nababamukuru vake hazvaizopera zvakanaka zvino atoparadza imba yasisi wake. “Loveness’ father-in-law and her husband came here telling us about the sister’s unexpected pregnancy.
“In our discussion, Loveness refused to take her sister as a co-wife. “Murume wangu vakaenda nemwanakomana wedu kuti vanotora musikana adzoke kumba wanikwe vasvika ikoko vakupihwa mari yemapere.
“They made a mistake by accepting that money and this has disturbed Loveness’ peace and she is now working in Harare as a housemaid.
“We have failed and we are appealing for help in this matter because Loveness is bitter and we fear for her life,” said Chipetu. Mutimbire, a Seventh Day Adventist church member, told H-Metro he had no regrets.
“I have no regrets in marrying my wife’s younger sister,” he said. “Loveness is free to come back and I will acquire a birth certificate for our four-year-old child when she returns.
“She was quick to lodge a police report against me over impregnating her sister and that did not go well with me. “Ikako kadzungu ikako ndiko kandakamuvengera uye haadi kuregerera kana atadzirwa.”
