Significant progress has been made in road maintenance and construction in both rural and urban areas since the coming of the new government.

Mbire district is one of the areas that has already benefited from the programme which is expected to cascade to every district in Zimbabwe.

Road infrastructure is key for development in any country.

The gravel road from Mahuwe to Kanyemba has recently been rehabilitated after years of neglect.

People in Mbire district said they were facing transport problems as most buses discontinued using the route due to the bad state of the road.

They revealed that they have been relying on motor cycles, bicycles and animal drawn carts as modes of transport despite the long distances involved.

The recent facelift to the road has brought hope among the Mbire and Kanyemba residents who are now looking forward to having a tarred road connecting to the Kanyemba border.

The development is testimony of the desire by the government to improve infrastructure for both the urban and rural populace.

Mbire district is a cotton growing area and road infrastructure is important for ferrying the crop and other agricultural produce to the market.

Bad roads cost farmers more as transporters’ charges are higher.

The new administration has embarked on a road rehabilitation exercise with major urban and rural roads being rehabilitated.
