More than 3000 households in Goromonzi are set to benefit from a dam currently under construction along Nyagurwe stream for increased horticulture and fish farming projects.
The Rusike community in Goromonzi welcomed the construction of a new dam being spearheaded by Goromonzi South the National Assembly member, Petronella Kagonye.
Mashonaland East Provincial Administrator, Mr Tavabarira Kutamahufa commended the project and stressed that the dam will provide water for irrigation.
“Such initiatives are good considering the issue of climate change which sometimes brings droughts in the country and this will go a long way in fighting hunger,” he said.
Kagonye confirmed that she had to provide resources for the construction of the dam while manpower is coming from the local community.
When farmers do their horticulture, they can easily get markets from Harare which is near the communities,” she added.
Water harvesting is the only way to go for the country to benefit from the natural resource.
