Prince William roasted on social media after making an insensitive joke about Coronavirus. The Duke of Cambridge tried to make a light-hearted joke about the issue which has been plaguing many but some social media users felt his joke was in bad taste. He was accused of being insensitive to the actual people infected by the virus.
Prince William has been accused of having ‘zero respect’ for coronavirus victims after he joked about the panic which has spread in the UK regarding the outbreak.
One Twitter user wrote: “HILARIOUS! Not! His humour is as cold and as creepy as him and as the dusty institution, he represents. Zero respect for the peoples who died of the virus.” Another person said: “How could he joke about this serious problem? I have no word.”
A third said Prince William’s attempt to laugh at the coronavirus scare was not appropriate, saying: “There are time and place for jokes. this isn’t the time”. Another added: “Can he really be that insensitive? Of course he will get away with his little ‘joke’.” This follows after Prince William and his wife Kate, Duchess of Cambridge wrapped up their Irish tour.
Prince William met with the health personnel, including emergency workers and paramedics and took the opportunity to discuss Coronavirus (Covid-19). The Duke of Cambridge then joked about the fear of catching coronavirus that many are experiencing.
He said: “I bet everyone’s like ‘I’ve got Coronavirus, I’m dying’, and you’re like ‘no, you’ve just got a cough’. “Does it seem quite dramatic about Coronavirus at the moment? “Is it being a little bit hyped up do you think in the media?”
William then, referring to how fast the coronavirus seems to be spreading from person to person and the fact that he and Kate have been shaking hands with dozens of officials, royal fans and well-wishers during the day, continued, with mock horror:
“By the way, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are spreading Coronavirus!” “Sorry! We’re keeping an eye on that, so do tell us if we need to stop! However some of the people on didn’t find anything wrong with his joke and thought he was being realistic about it.
He’s not being insensitive. “He’s actually correct in what he’s saying. People are freaking out when in reality the common flu is far more deadly than coronavirus and more have died from flu than corona.”
Another said:“Roll your eyes if you want, but there were at least three like this at our doctor’s office this morning.” Panic has set in.”
