Local singing sensation Simphiwe Dana took a moment to remember the time she spent with music icon, Hugh Masekela – She took a trip down memory lane, thinking back at the time when Hugh paid for her Tai Chi lessons – They were preparing to work together on an album but sadly Hugh passed away before that plan realised
Simphiwe Dana and the late music icon Hugh Masekela used to have a good relationship and even planned on working together on an album. She reminisced about the time she spent with Hugh and shared it with her fans on social media. Simphiwe remembered how Hugh paid for her to get Tai Chi lessons because her ‘energy was all over the place’.
She also remembered that Hugh wanted to use her as a backup singer, which she didn’t feel would work out. “He paid for me to get 10 Tai Chi lessons. Because he felt my energy was too all over the place. And that my energy would be bad for our album. Then he passed just as we were about ready to work. “He was so unhappy with me when I refused to go on a global tour with him as his backup singer. But I was only saving him from embarrassment. I’m a terrible backup singer.

Gave me such a leeway! I was 1h late cause my hairstylist took long. Of course I got a tongue lashing & he didn’t wait for me. Canceled the whole damn meeting! Still allowed that I would reschedule. I would have to go through the fire. Till his passing he reminded me I’m an ass https://t.co/SlZ4pHb3Cy

According to an earlier report by News24, Hugh was the first person to visit Simphiwe after a terrible accident she had in 2005 when she was 8 months pregnant. “He came to see me at my home all those years ago. He was one of the first people to come to my house to visit and check up on that.” The music icon passed away on 23 January 2018 and left a hole in the hearts of many South Africans.
In other news – DJ Zinhle and Pearl Thusi are doing an amazing job of being single Mothers
Not only are Pearl Thusi and DJ Zinhle #bodygoals and #careergoals but they’re rocking the hell out of #motherhood and they’ve opened up about how they do it. Speaking to T’bose on Kaya FM, Pearl and Zinhle opened up about the reservoir of strength they drink from that allows them to never compromise on their dreams just because they are mothers.
Pearl said having watched her mother give up on some amazing opportunities led her to take a different approach. She didn’t go because she was worried about missing things like my first period or (something like that) … Now in retrospect, I realise that might have been a huge sacrifice for her or she may have been scared – only God knows.
