Cop flees scene after stealing suspect’s phone. Maxwell Chile (20) a police officer at Mvurwi station is at large after reportedly stealing Laiton Nelson’s (24) mobile phone valued at ZWL$100. A Mvurwi cop is on the run after allegedly stealing a suspect’s mobile phone that he had logged in police books while the suspect was in police cells.
Sources familiar with the incident said Nelson was arrested on February 29 for unlawful entry and was detained at Mvurwi police under detention book number 119/20 and CR39/10/19.
“Nelson’s property namely black tennis shoes, white power bank and black Nokia cellphone serial number not visible was received and booked by the suspected cop,”said the source.
“On March 2 detectives proceeded to their Charge office with the intention to release Chile to court, upon his release he was not given his cellphone and advised detectives about the matter, this prompted investigations to be instituted and information was obtained that Nelson had given the cellphone to Never Matsangaise as collateral for a long outstanding debt, the stolen cellphone was then recovered.”
The matter is being investigated under RRB number 4227584. Mashonaland Central provincial spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe could not be reached for comment.
