Kirsty Coventry’s update on Stadiums: Zifa has failed. The Minister of Youth, Sports, Art and recreation has spoken out and give an update on the current stadiums’ crisis that the country is facing. Zimbabwe’s Warriors will be forced to play their matches in South Africa as their home grounds due to the poor condition of our stadiums which CAF declared are not fit to host games.
So the Minister of Sport Kirsty Coventry had an update of how the issue is going, below is her update on the issue…
Zifa have failed to assure CAF that the work we are doing in the stadiums will safeguard our National Teams playing home games in Zimbabwe. Zifa now have to come up with a stadium outside of Zimbabwe.
Local Government and the Municipalities own and operate our sports facilities and it has then been up too that federation to organise the event. The Ministry of Sports, despite it being Sport, has had no role to play.
Good news: It has finally been agreed that the ownership and operations of the National Sports Stadium in Zimbabwe will now be transferred to Ministry of Youth, Sport, Art and recreation. We have the experience and passion to now use this opportunity for Zimbabwe to become a sporting powerhouse.
These were her words.
