Labour Deputy Minister shocked by workers’ conditions at Sunny Yi Feng tile company. The Norton-based company has for long been denying reports of poor working and living conditions saying it was meeting expected standards.

The Deputy Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Lovemore Matuke was Tuesday shocked by workers’ conditions at the Chinese-owned ceramic tile making company, Sunny Yi Feng.

Sunny Yi Feng would add that such reports were being influenced by actions of conspiracy as a result of revenge distortion. Following the reports, Matuke, accompanied by senior officials from his ministry, the national labour body, the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU), the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) made a surprise visit at the company where they came up against with the extremely adverse employee circumstances.

He was shocked to learn that the workers were daily fed on a diet of cornmeal and cabbages. He immediately ordered Sunny Yi Feng management to improve the food quality of its employees.

He told NewZimbabwe after the tour that he had implored the Chinese company to urgently reform and respect the country’s labour laws. He said:

It is the expectation of the government that every employer without distinction should respect the laws of the land, and as a ministry, it is our duty to ensure the Labour Act is applied, respected and enforced without favour.

Matuke also ordered Sunny Yi Feng to allow its workers to take regular off-days, improve the general cleanliness of ablution facilities and install doors for the employees to have privacy when using the restrooms.

He also demanded that a specific time should be created for the workers’ lunchtime, and not for them to eat while working.

#FreeZuma protests: EFF refuses to participate in Ramaphosa’s all parties meeting. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) led by Julius Malema have refused to participate in President Cyril Ramaphosa’s meeting with political parties meant to address violent protests in the country.

The protests that followed the arrest and imprisonment of former president Jacob Zuma on Wednesday last week erupted in KZN before leapfrogging into Gauteng. Below is the statement by the EFF.

THE EFF WILL NOT PARTICIPATE IN RAMAPHOSA’S MEETING WITH POLITICAL PARTIES
Wednesday, 14 July 2021

The EFF will not participate in Cyril Ramaphosa non-productive meeting with political parties to rubber-stamp decisions already made. Ramaphosa meetings are a waste of time because he does not consider inputs by political parties and treat leaders of opposition parties like children.

At the same time, he continues with white people’s agenda. In past meetings, we met with Ramaphosa and agreed on matters. However, he continued and said the opposite of what we agreed as leaders of political parties.

Ramaphosa religiously listens to the DA and unapologetically read every word of their script. We warned Ramaphosa that he must not send soldiers to the street. The EFF called on Ramaphosa, together with his ministers, deputy ministers, premiers, members of the executive council and mayors, to go to communities experiencing riots to engage the people to restore order. Instead, he ignored our warning and deployed soldiers to communities. declaring war against civilians.

Ramaphosa went on national television and read the DA statement because he is comfortable with white people’s agenda. Before his address on Monday, the DA released a statement to call for the deployment of the South African National Defense Force and a meeting by the Ramaphosa with all political parties to discuss the crisis.

This is the script that Ramaphosa is working from, word for word, without changing anything to impress white people he addressed on Monday while our people continue to suffer.

The EFF is not going to attend useless meetings and rubber-stamp nonsense to solve ANC factional squabbles. Ramaphosa must deal with ANC factional battles and address his party members to stop burning the country, kill people and destroy livelihoods. Ramaphosa must stop calling factional squabbles “ethnic mobilization” address members of the party he leads to stop wreaking havoc.

For his cabinet ministers and so-called leaders of the ANC to wait for the soldiers to clear the crowds and pretend they are addressing the people is disingenuous and cowardly. Ministers choose safe sites clear by the soldiers instead of going to the hostile and epicenters of the havoc.

Members of the ANC caused the mayhem and chaos we witnessed in our streets because of internal political instability Ramaphosa failed to address even when there was information of a possible outbreak of this nature.

We do not agree with the people who are looting and destroying livelihoods, livelihoods of black people. However, we also do not believe that they deserve to be shot at by soldiers when there can be a political solution to the chaos facing communities.

Ramaphosa must go and address communities and lower structures of his party instead of organizing useless meetings. We call on Ramaphosa to withdraw the soldiers from our street with immediate effect, stop the war he has declared on the civilians, and find a political solution to a political problem.

Security guards cashing in on COVID jabs

Security guards cashing in on COVID jabs. Such was the mayhem as demand for the jab continues to increase that some people ended up disregarding Covid-19 safety measures such as observing of social distance and wearing of facemasks.

There was an uproar at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals with people accusing security guards manning queues of receiving money to give special access to Covid-19 vaccination jabs.

Some CMED workers were forced to return into their staff bus as people denied them access to vaccination ahead of the early birds.

“We arrived at 7am but that security guard already had names of people who came after 8am and are getting their jabs ahead of us. “This is very unfair considering the time we came here only for guards to be paid for services offered by government for free,” one of them was heard saying.

One of the security guards confirmed booking names of people forcing late comers to question the system. “It is true that we are booking names of 200 people expected to be served per day,” he said refusing to identify himself.

While a number of people were there for the first inoculation those who were queuing for second jabs were few. At Marlborough Satellite Clinic 60 people were booked for vaccination and many had to be turned away.

“The sister-in-charge advised us to book 60 people only for today,” said one of the security guards manning the closed gate. Wilkins Hospital has stopped conducting vaccinations and is only attending to those seeking Covid-19 testing.

Government is aiming to reach more than 10 million vaccinations for the country to be safe from the pandemic that has claimed lives across the globe.

Contracted farmers under Government programmes are expected to deliver to the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) where their loans will be paid through a stop order facility.

Farmers contracted by Government to grow soyabeans under the soyabean special programme for import substitution popularly known as Command Agriculture who do not deliver the crop to the Grain Marketing Board will be blacklisted from future funding while legal action will be taken against them.

Willing farmers will be taken on board for funding of the next cropping programme. The GMB today published the names of the farmers who are yet to make deliveries to the GMB. The parastatal urged farmers not to side market the crop as Statutory Instrument 97 was still in force.

“The Government of Zimbabwe contracted farmers to produce soyabeans under a facility financed through a financial institution. In terms of the contract, farmers were expected to pay their loans through delivering soyabeans to the GMB.

“The facility is a revolving fund meant to finance crop production in the country. Government-issued Statutory Instrument 97 for Control of Sale of Soyabeans and this is still in force. The following listed farmers are still owing and are expected to deliver soyabeans to Grain Marketing Board.

Failure to deliver may result in farmers being blacklisted from future funding as well as legal action being taken against them,” said GMB.

Econet’s DPA powers Total service stations with solar power

Econet’s DPA powers Total service stations with solar power. This is part of Total’s initiative to install solar-powered service stations across 57 African countries to create a portfolio of low-carbon businesses that will account for at least 20 percent of the energy conglomerate’s trading by 2040.

Econet Global subsidiary, Distributed Power Africa, has clinched a deal to install solar panels at 15 Total Zimbabwe service stations across the country. Mr Divyajeet Mahajan, DPA Zimbabwe CEO, said his company was contracted to custom-design the grid-tied solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, procure equipment and install the power solutions.

DPA will also operate and maintain the solar systems on a maintenance agreement. “We are excited that businesses are taking such big steps towards adopting renewable energy, and we look forward to a great collaboration with Total Zimbabwe as we work on the roll-out of solar power, which is an essential transition to new energies,” said Mr Mahajan.

To date, DPA has installed and commissioned Total service stations in Rusape, Avondale, Emerald Hill, Westgate and Chisipite. The implementation for an additional three service stations in Victoria Falls, Kwekwe and Msasa is in progress, while the rest of the sites are undergoing a power-needs assessment.

Zimbabwe’s frequent power cuts have increased service stations’ dependence on generator power usage, increasing their operating costs. However, Total’s installation of solar panels is expected to reduce the company’s energy dependence on the grid or other energy sources such as diesel generators, by 30 percent.

DPA, which has been aggressive in engaging commercial and industrial businesses to adopt hybrid clean energy solutions, has in the past few years installed PV solar panels at various institutions in Zimbabwe, including offices, manufacturing plants and residential areas.

The company uses lithium battery technology to improve energy security, reduce costs and reduce their customers carbon footprint.

Ex-NatPharm board members trial to proceed

Ex-NatPharm board members trial to proceed. Six former Natpharm board members facing allegations of failing to retire managing director, Florah Nancy Sifeko, when her tenure of office lapsed, will now go on trial after their application seeking to have the charges quashed failed at the High Court.

Former board chairman Billy Rigava, his then deputy Rachael Chibaya, board members Johnson Shonhe, Notburga Chifamba, Charles Maponga and Gerald Gore—were charged with criminal abuse of office.

Through their legal counsel Thembinkosi Magwaliba, the six had approached the higher court on review of regional magistrate Ms Estere Chivasa’s decision dismissing their request to have the charges dropped in July of last year.

It was their argument in the lower court that the exceptions taken were on the basis of that factually and legally no offence was disclosed in the charge. The reasoning was that, an extant judgment which they argue was binding existed and has pronounced that Ntapharm was not a public entity.

Its officers, therefore, did not owe a public duty and could not be charged in terms of the charge preferred.

This was extraneously opposed by the prosecution which argued that the six could only raise an exception where the charge fell short in terms of the provision of the law under which they are being charged.

After considering submission by both parties’ legal counsel, Justice Phildah Muzofa found no misdirection on the part of the trial court and threw out the application.

“From the foregoing I find no misdirection to justify an interference with the proceedings before the first respondent (Ms Chivasa),” she said. The judge said if the six allege that the charge was based on falsehoods and that the prosecution withheld facts known to it invariably means the court had to be favoured with what the applicants allege is the truth.

This can only be done through evidence. The court will have to interrogate the veracity of each party’s evidence before a substantive decision is made.

In their application at the High Court, the six’s contention was that the trial court failed to consider a binding decision granted in NatPharm’s favour that had declared the company to be privately-owned and thus did not have any public duty in relation to the conduct of its officials and employees.

The lower court, they argued, had erred in ordering the trial to proceed when it was apparent that the factual basis on which the charge sheet was based was false. Ms Fortunate Kachidza appeared for the State.

South African media under fire for ignoring killings of blacks by Indians #PhoenixMassacre. This comes amid reports that at least 15 blacks have been killed by vengeful Indians who accuse them of burning their trucks and or looting their businesses.

South African media has come under fire from various quarters for allegedly ignoring the murder of blacks by Indians. Some of the killed were reportedly innocent.

Police Minister Bheki Cele confirms that 15 people have died in the Phoenix township area in Durban, during the ongoing violent clashes. Cele visited the area on Wednesday evening and made an appeal to the local residents to maintain order.

Video footage of the carnage has spread across social media, fuelling rage that could potentially motivate racially charged clashes in other parts of the country.

Some, however, blame the developments on President Cyril Ramaphosa saying inaction by the government forced citizens to be vigilantes as they sought to protect their properties.

Commenting on the tragedy, one Thabo@tbozer said:

I don’t understand how the media just turned a blind eye to what is happening in Phoenix. We’ve been tweeting about what’s happening in Phoenix and the media turned a blind eye.

Others said the latest developments were reminiscent of the apartheid era when blacks were being killed.

Col Kahuni was supposed to be buried at Gweru Provincial Heroes Acre but will now be buried at his rural home in Murehwa. Zanu-PF Midlands provincial chairperson Engineer Daniel Mackenzie Ncube said the province has been robbed of a dedicated true patriot.

“The death of Dr Kahuni has robbed us of a valiant soldier and a true patriot. He deeply loved his country and was uncompromising when it came to the ethos and values of the liberation. An unapologetic defender of the Second Republic under Cde E D Mnangagwa,” he said.

Eng Mackenzie Ncube said Col Kahuni was a political giant who will be solely missed in the Midlands Province. Known by his Chimurenga name “Lion Chadzonga”, Col Kahuni was born on April 11, 1960, in Murehwa. He attended Manyika Primary School from 1966 to 1972 before proceeding to Uzumba Secondary School.

He was later deployed to Zimunya area in Manicaland where he operated for a few months before proceeding to Nachingweya in Tanzania for regular military training in 1977.

While in Tanzania, he was selected to do a leadership and instructors course in 1978 after which he was appointed an instructor for the training of the Sasa Maliza group, which was the largest group to be trained as a Zanla special force for deployment.

Col Kahuni was later deployed to Manicaland Province where he operated until ceasefire when he moved to Dzapasi Assembly Point in Buhera.

He was attested into the ZNA as a private in 1980 and was selected to undergo cadet training at the Zimbabwe Military Academy in 1981. Upon completion, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and he received the Commander Zimbabwe National Army Award for the best academic student.

During his long and illustrious career, the late senior officer attended and passed several military courses, among them the Platoon Commander’s course at the Zimbabwe Military Academy in 1993.

Col Kahuni was at one time the Deputy Commandant at the Sadc Regional Peacekeeping Training Centre where he was responsible for training and administration.

He had vast experience in management, peacekeeping, peace-building, conflict resolution, combat operations, strategic research and analysis as well as training in various military aspects.

His achievements at the international level include working in conflict environments under the United Nations Peacekeeping Missions. Col Kahuni held Diplomas in Management and Defence and Security Studies as well as an MBA degree from the Midlands State University and a Ph D degree in Ethics obtained from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

10 more ex-convicts deported from SA. The group arrived in police vans, along with 60 others who had been rounded up for violating immigration laws in the neighbouring country.

South Africa on Monday deported 10 Zimbabweans who completed serving their sentences in correctional facilities around Limpopo province. It is understood that the deportations are part of the South Africans’ plans to decongest prisons, and migrants holding centres.

According to the Zimbabwe Consulate in Johannesburg, the ex-convicts had been arrested for robbery, house breaking and shoplifting, among other charges.

Last week, another seven ex-convicts were deported from Gauteng province along with 213 others who had been raided for violating Pretoria’s immigration laws. Zimbabwe’s Consul-General to Johannesburg Mrs Melody Chaurura said recently that they have not been able to deport people in the last two weeks.

“On average less than 100 people are being sent home from South Africa weekly,” she said. By the end of the day yesterday, health officials were still screening the group for Covid-19. Under the current lockdown Standard Operational Procedures (SOP), those returnees or deportees who test positive for the condition are put in isolation.

In addition, those testing negative are sent to their respective homes for quarantine. With respect to the ex-convicts, they are also profiled by the police.

Mozambique signs agreement for SADC troops deployment

Mozambique signs agreement for SADC troops deployment. The regional bloc has been ready to deploy troops since a leaders’ summit in Maputo on June 23, but on Tuesday this week, South Africa’s defence minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula told journalists that Mozambique had not signed the so-called status of forces document.

Mozambique has, after initial hesitance, signed an agreement allowing the immediate deployment of troops from the 16-member Southern African Development Community (SADC) to help fight an Islamic State-linked insurgency.

“If it’s not signed, it actually prevents the entire region from deploying soldiers. It has nothing to do with the perceived tensions between South Africa and Mozambique, if any at all,” she said. On Wednesday, Mozambique reacted to regional unease which only grew after it welcomed Rwandan troops.

Defence minister Jaime Neto told Bloomberg that President Filipe Nyusi had okayed the deployment, and status of forces agreements were being delivered to the SADC countries. Deployments could start as early as Thursday, he said.

The natural-gas rich nation’s government was yet to officially notify the bloc of Rwanda dispatching troops, according to Stergomena Tax, SADC’s executive secretary.

“It is unfortunate,” she said by text message on Tuesday. “In line with SADC summit decisions, other deployments are to be in line with SADC guiding instruments, and this can only happen after SCabo Delgado”

The European Union announced Monday that it will set up a military training mission in Mozambique to help the government tackle the Islamist insurgency and to protect civilians.

Mozambique, which has called on the EU for help, has been grappling with a rebellion in its northernmost province of Cabo Delgado since 2017. Violence has grown significantly in the past year.

EU foreign ministers took the formal decision at a meeting in Brussels although it was not immediately clear which countries will provide the necessary troops. “The mandate of the mission will initially last two years,” the European Council, representing EU members states, said in a statement

Portugal already sent 60 soldiers to its former colony in May to run a four-month programme training troops to counter the insurgency, share intelligence and use drones to track militants’ movements.

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell has said that 200-300 personnel could be deployed to Mozambique by the end of the year.

Portugal is prepared to offer 50 percent of the manpower and will also provide the commander on the ground in Mozambique, where the violence has driven more than 700,000 people from their homes in Cabo Delgado.

The insurgency is blamed for 3,000 deaths and has halted Africa’s biggest private investment yet. Mozambique had until now resisted allowing foreign armies to help battle the nearly four-year-old insurgency in the north, even as the extremist rebels seized key towns.

The government had previously bolstered its army with mercenaries, who struggled to contain the violence that has put at risk gas projects that the country is banking on to transform its economy.

In March, TotalEnergies SE froze work on its US$20 billion facility to produce liquefied natural gas for export after militants occupied a nearby town and killed dozens of people.

The SADC troops will join those from Rwanda, which is not part of the bloc and has already started sending 1,000 soldiers and police to Mozambique.

ZANU PF responds to Mnangagwa’s fulfilled 2% of his promise only report

ZANU PF responds to Mnangagwa’s fulfilled 2% of his promise only report. The ruling ZANU PF has refuted claims by Sivio Institute that President Emmerson Mnangagwa has so far achieved only 2% of the pledges his party made in 2018.

In a statement issued by Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo, the party said:

ZANU PF RESPONSE TO NEWSDAY’s 2% FAKE NEWS STORY

The Revolutionary Party ZANU PF has taken note of a leading story in today’s Newsday paper which belongs to AMH, quoting a non-existent, fame-seeking outfit identified as Sivio which claims that ZANU PF has achieved only 2% of the Party’s promises as provided in the 2018 People’s manifesto.

This fake news story is coming at a time when the ZANU PF Government working tirelessly with the people under the President’s mantra, “No one Must Be Left Behind’ has been commended even by usually unfriendly global institutions such as the IMF which has projected that Zimbabwe’s economic turnaround is indeed on course and the:

“country’s economy Zimbabwe has shown resilience in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic and other exogenous shocks. The pandemic, on top of cyclone Idai in 2019, a protracted drought, and weak policy buffers, has taken a severe toll on the economic and humanitarian situation. However, an economic recovery is underway in 2021, with real GDP expected to grow by about six percent, reflecting a bumper agricultural output, increased energy production, and the resumption of greater manufacturing and construction activities.”

In addition to that, facts and statistics on the ground attest to the fact that Zimbabwe has achieved full food security following a successful agricultural season headlined by the Pfumvudza/ Intwasa Farming Programme and the Presidential Inputs Support Scheme. Resultantly, Zimbabwe has migrated from being a food importer as witnessed by the ban on importation of grain maize and mealie-meal with the country looking forward to becoming a potential exporter of maize and other farm products.

There is no doubt that this is a radical departure from what was obtained before the New Dispensation arrived. The People’s Manifesto indeed was very clear on our commitment to connecting Zimbabwe to the region and the world at large through modernization of our road network which in H.E, The President CDE ED Mnangagwa’s own words “must speak to other roads in the region.”

Our government has left a permanent mark on our arterial roads and there is no need for any further explanation on that assuming the writer and owners of the AMH Newsday stable are not blind. The dams construction countrywide and erection of irrigation structures to support agriculture and defy climate change are a reality for all to see.

The swift disaster response mechanisms put in place by our Government are the reason why Cyclone Idai torn communities of Chimanimani, Chipinge and other eastern parts of the country are back to life notwithstanding the magnitude of the damage that was caused. The same applies to our Covid-19 pandemic response strategy, which has seen our country’s death rate from the pandemic low and our recovery rate thriving, not to mention that we are the leading country in the region if not from Cape to Cairo in terms of Covid-19 Vaccination.

Due to a raft of macro and micro-economic reforms, our government has maintained our local currency stable against the USS with the Foreign Currency Auction System playing a major role in restoring sanity in the foreign exchange market, resulting in reduced inflation. Political reforms implemented thus far with the repealing of APIPA and POSA, as well as the opening up of the democratic space, explain the peaceful coexistence and tolerance that characterize our civil engagement politically, socially and culturally.

The revolution in our energy sector, industrial recapitalization and resuscitation efforts which have seen the emergence of new industries and resurrection of many that had lost life clearly attest to the seriousness with which we are seized with implementing our pledges. Interestingly, the President has led the launch of these industries in the full eyes of the local media and Newsday itself.

While this statement is not meant to chronologize all our many success stories ranging engagement and re-engagement, efforts towards closure of the Gukurahundi issue and achieving unity and opening up the country for business both local and foreign direct investment (FDI, we challenge the Newsday and the fame-seeking outfit to learn to separate fact from fiction and report responsibly instead of running amok driven by vendetta journalism and a spirit of criticism.

The Party has opened up to all media despite some of them being traditionally hostile and known for doing the bidding for opposition parties that have lost oxygen. We remain committed to that openness and building relations in the spirit of the New Dispensation and President ED Mnangagwa’s directive to drop the ‘us versus them’ approach to our fraternal players in the media.

However, we reserve our right to inform the Newsday and its owners to desist from this culture of misrepresenting issues. We have observed this trend for a while but we have remained mature in our response to this malicious fake news orchestra from a single stable. We have neither desire nor intention to control or direct the editorial policy of any media stakeholder but we deserve respect and fair coverage.

Fake News has no place in a civilized newsroom. We categorically reject fake news narratives that seek to criminalize our progress and achievements.

Journalist Sandra Nyaira remembered. In a statement last night, Minister Mutsvangwa conveyed deepest condolences to the Nyaira family, her friends and the media fraternity on the ministry’s behalf and on her behalf.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Monica Mutsvangwa has mourned veteran journalist, Sandra Nyaira, who succumbed to Covid-19-related complications on Tuesday in Harare.

She said she learnt with shock and sadness the death of one of Zimbabwe’s female pioneers in the media sector, who was hardworking and professional.

“Nyaira’s legacy is that of a hardworking trailblazer who executed her duties in a professional, yet warm manner,” she said.

“She will forever be etched in history for being the first woman in Zimbabwe to take a leadership role in the newsroom as the Daily News political editor, a feat the achieved at the age of 26.

Indeed the country has lost a remarkable example of how women are equal to any task tackled by their male counterparts in the media fraternity.

Minister Mutsvangwa said it is devastating that Nyaira passed on at a time when her mentorship was valuable to young women journalists not only in the country but across the continent.

Nyaira will be remembered for having joined the journalism profession at a time when few women dared or dreamt to enter the profession.

Her illustrious career which spanned over 20 years, encompassed spells at the Zimbabwe Inter-Africa Agency and The Daily News before she moved to the United States to pursue other ventures.

At the time of her passing on Nyaira was the communications and public information officer at the UN Economic Commission for Africa in Ethiopia.

Man allocated 36ha of land in Chitungwiza without paying a cent to the Council

Man allocated 36ha of land in Chitungwiza without paying a cent to the Council. In any case Chitungwiza limits land holdings to two residential and two commercial stands on public land.

Chitungwiza Municipality is battling to reverse a deal in which an individual was allocated 36,8 hectares of public land to build houses, schools and shops in the town without any payment made to council, at a time thousands on council’s waiting list are struggling to acquire stands as small as 200 square metres.

Businessman Mr Chenjerai Tarcious Madamombe was allocated 8ha in Nyatsime Phase 1 and 2 to build a primary and secondary school, another 18,55ha for residential and commercial development at Dunotar Farm in the Nyatsime area and 17 residential and commercial stands in Seke South totalling 9,83ha.

The land deal was struck years ago during the tenure of ex-Chitungwiza housing director Ms Jemina Gumbo who signed a deed of settlement without the legally required council resolution, without any payment and without Mr Madamombe even applying for the stands. Council sought to nullify the leases after realising that the proper procedures and approval had not been given but Mr Madamombe contested the nullification in court.

While the matter was still in court, Ms Gumbo reportedly went further and signed a deed of settlement, surrendering the whole 36,8ha to Mr Madamombe.

Chitungwiza Municipality recently approached the High Court seeking an order nullifying this deed of settlement signed by Ms Gumbo with the local authority through lawyers Matsikidze Attorneys at Law desperately battling to have the land deal cancelled.

They argue that the settlement was signed contrary to both public policy and the laws of Zimbabwe in that it leased large and extensive pieces of land as stated in the deed of settlement, to an individual. The council noted that Chitungwiza’s housing procedure does not allow an individual to own more than two residential and two commercial properties on public land, with all land in the municipality being public land until buyers finally obtain their title deeds.

Not only did Ms Gumbo sign away the land without authority, the council cannot find any applications for lease agreements for any of the stands and cannot find any proof of payment.

Council contends that two other stands measuring thousands of square metres were allocated to Madamombe Sports Academy, which it contends is a non-existent entity and is certainly not registered. In any case Mr Madamombe has now told the council that the leasehold is held by him personally.

“The other piece of land being stands 19700 to 19771 were allegedly awarded to a non-existent legal person called Madamombe Sports Academy, a non-registered entity, contrary to the law that a lease can only be granted to a natural person or artificial person and strangely, the first defendant (Madamombe) is claiming the piece of land to be under his leasehold in person,” read council documents.

Stand Number 19770 allocated to Mr Madamombe in Seke South measures 26 000 square metres (2,6ha) while stand numbers 19774 to 19779 measure a total of 24 108 square metres. Mr Madamombe also got stands 19787 to 19790 measuring about 3 000 square metres each.

Mr Madamombe is not new to land disputes as he once clashed with Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa’s United Family International Church (UFIC) over stand number 19770

He once claimed occupancy of the land where UFIC’s 30 million structure near Town Centre in Chitungwiza was built. Council later split the stand and later still offered Mr Madamombe alternative land in Nyatsime.
