About 250k Zimbabweans ask for permanent South African residencies

About 250k Zimbabweans ask for permanent South African residencies. The association on Wednesday pleaded with the Gauteng High Court for the Zimbabwean nationals’ permanent residencies on Wednesday before the expiration of the permits in November 2021.

The Zimbabwean Exemption Permit Holders Association, which speaks for about 250 000 Zimbabweans based in South Africa, has asked for permanent residencies. It also asked for South African ID documents based on permanent residency in the neighbouring country and in terms of the Immigration Act as well as the Identification Act. The court statement read in part:

… knowing that the holders of the permit have known no other home besides South Africa for more than 10 years. It is further submitted that the holders of Zimbabwean Exemption Permits have a legitimate expectation for the renewal of their current permit, and for permanent residence, without any further conditions, and the right to apply for citizenship in the Republic of South Africa.

Meanwhile, Advocate Simba Chitando, a Zimbabwean national, said the neighbouring country’s immigrants have delivered consistent value towards South Africa’s wealth. He said:

The problem faced by many hundreds of thousands of Zimbabweans in SA is that they have been here for 10 years or longer under a variety of different permits, and it is generally conceded that they make a huge contribution to the SA economy, yet these permits do not allow them to enjoy the benefits that come with permanent residences, such as full access to banking facilities, or the right to accumulate pension savings.

We argue that it is past time to grant permanent residence to those Zimbabweans who have been living and working in SA in a kind of no-man’s land. We believe it is reasonable to expect to be granted permanent residence when the ZEPs expire, which they do in November 2021.

Beitbridge Border Post’s truck delay reason revealed

Beitbridge Border Post’s truck delay reason revealed. Zimborders expects to collect more than US$1 billion over 17 years from toll fees before it hands over the upgraded border facility to the Zimbabwean government through a “build, operate and transfer” deal.  With the first phase opened of the US$300 million upgrades, a freight terminal and the new immigration building, it has been a torrid month for truckers.

Zimborders was awarded a contract by the Zimbabwean government to upgrade the border post, but since it started collecting toll fees, truckers are spending up to 10 days at the border post. It has become a nightmare for truck drivers crossing through the Beitbridge border post since a toll company, Zimborders, began collecting fees.

Meanwhile, a notice shared with truckers and clearing agents by Zimborders says that toll fees are for now accepted only in cash. Card payments will be allowed only in end-October. The notice read:

Please make sure your drivers have enough cash to pay for the toll fee. Credit cards and prepaid vouchers will not be available. Adding to the logistical nightmare, payments can be made only at the Zimborders counter.

Each truck pays US$201 and with an average 1 000 trucks passing through Beitbridge daily, US$73 million will be collected annually over 17 years. The fees are for border use in both directions. In addition to toll fees, vehicles pay US$23 to access the New Limpopo Bridge into Zimbabwe. That money is collected by the Zimbabwe National Road Authority (ZINARA).

The new fees exceed the previous US$100 toll fee and US$9 road access flat fees paid by all vehicles in the past. Trucks registered in Zimbabwe are allowed to pay in local currency while foreign vehicles pay in US dollars.

Zimborders CEO Francois Diedrechsen said that things are improving. He said: At its worst, the queues northbound last Tuesday were at 10km and three lanes wide, with the slow flow though at the border.

This has now improved to mostly single-lane [small parts are still double-lane] queues of less than 8km and declining by the day. He said matters deteriorated because the border was opened to general traffic, leading to high volumes, but curfew working hours are still in place.

Zimbabwean health assistant fired over s.e.xualised banter in UK

Zimbabwean health assistant fired over s.e.xualised banter in UK. Farai Hombarume (53), from Thornaby, Teesside, was considered a s.e.x pest by staff and was sacked from the job he had held for nine years but he claimed an NHS Trust was discriminating against him because he was black. Hombarume allegedly told one female colleague he wanted to have a “chocolate baby” with her and invited her to go outside with him during their break.

A United Kingdom-based Zimbabwean health assistant was fired by the NHS for gross misconduct in 2019 after he reportedly told a shocked female colleague “I want to have a chocolate baby with you”.

The women complained Hombarume was harassing them and one had to go on sick leave for several months due to the stress he had caused her. Following disciplinary hearings, he was fired for gross misconduct in 2019 from the job he had held for nine years.

Hombarume challenged the dismissal, accusing the Tees Esk and Wear Valley (TEWV) NHS Foundation Trust of discriminating against him because he was black. At an employment tribunal in Middlesbrough, he brought a case for racial discrimination, unfair dismissal and wrongful dismissal from the Roseberry Park unit. Giving evidence at the tribunal, Homburame said:

I truly believe these accusations are based on my race, skin colour and mere hatred from the three staff members. I’m a family man, I have a partner who is a teacher and daughters of my own at university. I would never say the things I was accused of saying, they conspired against me and the reason I was treated the way I was coming down to my race and the colour of my skin.

There was an instance where I was racially abused by a patient, which is something that happens. However, I expected my colleagues to be supportive but instead, they laughed about it. The decision of the tribunal is very disappointing and I have written to them asking them to reconsider their findings.

I had worked for that trust for 10 years on so many different wards and never had a complaint against me. It was only on that ward with those particular people that this happened.

Each of his claims was unanimously dismissed as “unfounded” by the tribunal panel after hearing from three female workers at Roseberry Park. The panel concluded that his sacking had nothing to do with the colour of Hombarume skin. It said:

… In this case, the claimant made several highly inappropriate and s.e.xual comments to female employees over two shifts. We are satisfied that, in making those comments, the claimant committed gross misconduct and the respondent was entitled to terminate the claimant’s employment without notice.

Hombarume continued to insist his sacking was racially motivated, adding he continues to work for NHS Professionals, the largest bank of non-contract staff.

Tanzania’s opposition condemns attacks against Nelson Chamisa

Tanzania’s opposition condemns attacks against Nelson Chamisa. The Alliance for Change and Transparency (ACT Wazalendo), the third-largest political party in Tanzania, has condemned “attacks” against MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa. The organisation makes the remarks after MDC Alliance has claimed that its leader survived two assassination attempts by the ruling ZANU PF.

In a statement, ACT Wazalendo called upon the ruling ZANU PF to respect laws. Pindula News presents the statement.

ATTACKS AGAINST PRESIDENT OF THE MDC ALLIANCE OF ZIMBABWE MR. NELSON CHAMISA IS AN ATTACK AGAINST DEMOCRACY WHICH ACT WAZALENDO STRONGLY CONDEMNS

ACT Wazalendo is saddened by the attacks on the President of Zimbabwe’s Opposition MDC Alliance Ndg. Nelson Chemisa. Ndg. Chamisa has survived at least two attacks with clear indications of attempted murder within seven days.

The most recent attack took place yesterday, October 19. 2021 at 11 pm Zimbabwe time, when Chamisa was on his way to visit the people when his convoy was shot. Some of the shots were fired at the car he was riding in. which clearly indicates that the attackers were deliberately trying to harm him. The Police and gangs of the ruling ZANU PF party have been accused of participating In the attack. We are sorry that no accountable action has been taken by the government against such acts.

ACT Wazalendo strongly condemns attacks against Mt. Chemise and his MDC Alliance party. Attacks against him and his Party are attacks on Democracy within Zimbabwe and within SADC and Africa. It is an attack and sabotage against democrats anywhere in the world. Those acts should not be condoned.

We call on ZANU PF and its government to respect democratic laws and principles. Run civilized politics. Run the politics of argument and not the politics of piracy. Misuse of state apparatus to undermine the legitimate activities of the opposition parties and instill fear in the people especially the opposition supporters is a tactic Mat is only used by parties that have failed to legitimize themselves with arguments instead they are using force to slay in power Africa should not continue with that tradition.

We urge the authorities to stop bringing violence and political crisis into Zimbabwe. Let the Zimbabweans decide the fate of their country, and let them decide on what kind of leaders and party they see fit to lead them. Our hope is that attacks against Mr. Chamisa and the MDC Alliance will be stopped immediately. We send a solidarity messages to our colleagues in MDC Alliance party and its members and encourage them to stay the course.

Moreover, ACT Wazalendo calls upon Tanzania’s ministry of Foreign Affairs to communicate to Zimbabwe authorities about these sad concerns and demand that Zimbabwe adhere to SADC Protocol on Democracy. Issued by: Bonifasla A. Mapunda Deputy Head of Foreign Affairs Department, ACT Wazalendo. October 20, 2021.

Actress and model Mimi Nobuhle Mahlasela is embracing her new journey as a body-positive activist. Popularly known for her character as Aggie on SABC soapie “7de Laan”, Mahlasela is celebrating her body while also encouraging others to become more confident in their own skin.
Her aim is to use social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok to shine the spotlight on issues of mental health by promoting body positivity.

During a recent interview with the “Expresso” show on S3, the Joburg born star said she feared cyberbullying when she first joined the video-sharing social network.

“I must say, at first, I was very hesitant to join TikTok, cause I thought this platform is not for me, I’m just going to be bullied. I’m not going to cope, “ said the star.
But when she started sharing her videos, she received an outpouring of support for her body-positive movement.
I received so much love and such an incredible growing interest.

“I realised as well that I could use this platform to start a dialogue about mental health issues, which is something that I struggle with, and I know a lot of people also struggle with.
Mahlasela told IOL that she hopes her activism will help start a “dialogue about self-love and encourage others to invest in protecting their peace and surround themselves doing things that make them happy.”

“Hurt people, hurt people. We can educate people who find pleasure in mocking others.

“We can talk until we are blue in the face and try to tell people to stop with negative comments, but the change begins with oneself to just be kind and spread love,” said Mahlasela, referring to the latest trend of body shamers, the most common form of cyberbullying.
On how she deals with trolls, Mahlasela said: “Some days, I honestly do put people in their place if they are being rude and disrespectful because we are human and people need to stop bashing ‘public figures’ because we are told to not respond – if you’re personally attacking me, I will call you to order. We need to all respect each other on these social media platforms. It’s simple. I just block and move on!”

Local singer Makhadzi was recently humiliated by trolls after a photograph of her performing on stage showing off the dark skin on her inner thighs went viral.

Taking to social media, Makhadzi pleaded with her social media users to stop “editing and sharing” the image and also urged fans to stop humiliating her. Hitting back at trolls, Makhadzi said: “Unfortunately, I cannot change my inner part … I’m like this and I’m proud

Reasons these Actors were fired from The Queen

$

Mzansi Magic’s hit telenovela The Queen has experienced its fair share of actors leaving the show. Shona and Connie Ferguson, who produced the show, explained the high turnover saying that it is the nature of the industry. Characters come and go as telenovelas continuously reinvent the storyline.

However, sometimes the actors do not leave the show of their own accord. Below are some of the actors who were fired from The Queen.

Dineo Langa

Actress and television presenter Dineo Langa who had been with the show since its first episode in 2016 was fired from The Queen after she allegedly asked for some time off to shoot another movie. Instead, she received a stern email from the producers telling her to not return to work after the lockdown.

Dineo Langa

Dineo who used to play the role of Kea Khoza later confirmed that she was fired from the telenovela. She revealed this in an Instagram post after a fan asked her about leaving The Queen. In the post, Dineo said,

“Ang’buyi mina ngaxoshwa (I am not coming back, I was fired)”.

Replying to another user she said: “My character was removed from the show. The character will be dying soon soon.”

Rami Chuene

Veteran actress Rami Chuene was also killed off from the hit television show after her relationship with the Fergusons deteriorated when she allegedly sided with fellow actress Vatiswa Ndaba. This is after the seasoned actress, wrote an open letter to sports, arts and culture minister Nathi Mthethwa, last year, highlighting her experiences working for the Fergusons. The letter was highly critical of the Fergusons.

Rami Chuene

Chuene played the role of Gracious “T-Gom” Mabuza, a fiery, religious and gun-toting woman, who was wildly popular with the fans.

Confirming her exit from the show, Rami Chuene wrote,

“Yes, TGOM’s stint on #TheQueenMzansi has come to an end. Unfortunately, I won’t be getting into details as advised by my legal team. I still have to finish shooting and I’m hoping to execute as excellently, exceptionally and professionally as I always have. #TGOMNATION forever”.

Mlamli Mangcala

Actor Mlamli Mangcala who played the role of Captain Sthembiso Radebe on The Queen also left the show after making allegations of lies and deception. Mangcala claimed that he was being exploited by the Fergusons whom he alleged basically made him pay for him to appear on television.

Mlamli Mangcala

According to Mangcala, he had to cover his own travel and accommodation costs when travelling from Cape Town to Johannesburg to shoot. He also said that he never got the salary that he was promised as he would only get an increment of R100 when he negotiated his contract.

Sello Maake ka Ncube

Veteran actor Sello Maake ka Ncube who used to play the role of Kgosi also left The Queen under a cloud. However, ka Ncube did not give any details as to what had transpired to make him leave the show and instead said that the Fergusons were the only ones who could reveal the fuzzy details behind his exit from the show.

Sello Maake kaNcube

Sello Maake Ka Ncube stated the following:

“The Fergusons can only be the one’s who will reveal the sketchy details surrounding my exit on the show. However, I can confirm that, there was something that went wrong between us but they are best suited in letting the public know of what the reasons were.”

The actor, however, expressed his support for Rami Chuene when she was fired from The Queen.

Marah Louw

Seasoned television actress Marah Louw who played the role of Sis Boi on the Mzansi Magic show was also fired by the Fergusons after she apparently refused to shoot a scene which was too traumatic for her. Said Marah

“I refused because the storyline resembled an incident that is in my book. I told them that I was not going to re-enact my life in a soapie. I refused because it is the kind of incident that I would not want to go through again, let alone talking about it. I told them that they got the story from my book and there is a copyright issue involved. They asked another actress to act in the episode, which still hurt me.”

Marah Louw

Louw also revealed that she was offered a per-call contract on the popular soapie which she found “insulting and disrespectful” considering her decades of experience in the industry.

Shona Ferguson later claimed that Marah was not fired from the show but was in and out of contract. A furious Marah punched back and shared a letter which proved that she had been fired by Ferguson Films.

So there you have it, five actors fired from The Queen and the reasons why.

Report: Shops continue using black market forex rates

Report: Shops continue using black market forex rates. Despite the recent arrest of directors of some top companies over the black market rates issue, a survey by The Herald in Harare on Wednesday indicated that the majority of traders are using black market rates ranging from US$1:$150 to US$1:$200 when the official rate is US$1:$93.

Retailers and wholesalers have ignored warnings by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s (RBZ) Financial Intelligence Unit against pegging Zimbabwe dollar prices for their goods and services to black market exchange rates.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi reportedly refused to comment on the issue of enforcement, referring all questions to the RBZ. Meanwhile, Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers Association (CZRA) president Denford Mutashu confirmed the practice but called for dialogue between Government and the traders. He said:

The continued foreign currency exchange rate challenges emanate from rising demand for foreign currency by both businesses that access foreign currency from the auction and those that source from the parallel market.

There is a need for a balanced approach as the recent extreme measures are currently leading to shortages of selected products as some manufacturers and suppliers slow down supply. Applying the law on the pricing of goods and services in respect of businesses that are not sourcing foreign currency from the auction system like us, is tantamount to price control.

Recently, RBZ warned businesses against currency manipulation saying the FIU was investigating allegations that had been raised against Chicken Inn and Bakers’ Inn on social media.

Chicken Inn and Bakers’ Inn were accused of using a black market rate of US$1:$200 when the official forex rate was below US$1:$90. Last week, Best Zone Pharmacy and Farm and City were in court accused of violating the Exchange Control Act.

Govt speaks on the Mabvuku turnoff interchange. This was revealed by the Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona during the ministry’s 2022 Strategic Planning Review Workshop being held in Mutare which is meant to review the Ministry’s 2021 performance and realign various projects for the coming year, 2022.

Government is currently working on the modernisation and decongestion of the Mabvuku turnoff in Harare by constructing an interchange as it continues to prioritise the completion of the ongoing road rehabilitation projects under the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme Phase 2 (ERRP2) countrywide.

Addressing during the workshop, Minister Mhona made a clarion call to the ministry and their parastatals to rise above the Covid-19 induced challenges and ensure that they deliver on their mandate in line with the National Vision.

He said despite the challenges they were facing, as a Ministry they had scored impressive successes such as the upgrading of the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, upgrading of the Harare-Beitbribge Highway and the computerisation of the Learner’s drivers’ license among other key national projects.

“Our objective this week is to create a new performance agreement for 2022 that will govern and secure the future viability of our transportation and related infrastructure. In order to achieve goals contained in the Vision 2030, the Ministry’s Performance Agreement should be integrated into the Ministry’s Strategic Plan and have the flexibility to accept any rises in demand imposed by our economy.

“This would provide universal infrastructure access which is naturally an enabler of socio-economic progress,” she said. He said Zimbabwe was particularly well placed to benefit from regional integration and globalisation.

“In addition, the Southern African region has already proven adept at seizing on its comparative advantage by developing a thriving transport sector. Through developments in SADC, COMESA and AU, a collective approach to the development of infrastructure and systems promotes inter and intra trade, through seamless and harmonised standards and systems.

The region is already making highly welcome efforts on many fronts to work together more closely, coordinate policies, and present itself globally as a united group. I urge you all to follow closely and adopt good

Mnangagwa urges youths to continue resisting illegal sanctions. The President yesterday told the Zanu PF Politburo that sanctions should be immediately removed as they are illegal, unjustified, and counter-productive.

President Mnangagwa has commended the country’s citizens for resisting machinations by the country’s detractors to effect regime change through the use of illegal economic sanctions imposed to alienate the people from Zanu PF by the United States and is allies.

The call comes after President Mnangagwa this week met with the United Nations special rapporteur, Ms Alena Douhan, who is in the country to assess the impact of unilateral coercive measures on enjoyment of human rights. She is on a 10-day fact-finding mission whose outcome is expected to give the world a clear picture of the debilitating effects of the illegal sanctions.

The high-profile visit by Ms Douhan follows the United Nations Human Rights Council resolution 34/13 of 2017, which stresses that unilateral coercive measures and legislation were contrary to international law, international humanitarian law, the charter and norms and principles governing peaceful relations among states.

President Mnangagwa said the Government will continue calling for the unconditional removal of sanctions which are affecting the general populace. The Politburo session also coincides with the scaling up of preparations for the Anti-Sanctions Day to be held on October 25.

“Our party and Government will be joined by other SADC member states as we amplify our unequivocal calls for the unconditional removal of sanctions imposed on our beloved country. “The sanctions are illegal, unjustified, counter-productive and continue to hinder the people of Zimbabwe from enjoying their fundamental human rights to enjoy sovereignty, independence, unfettered development and prosperity,” said President Mnangagwa.

He urged the youth to be vigilant in defending the country’s sovereignty and commended them for remaining resolute in resisting the regime change agenda. “I commend the nation, particularly our young people, who continue to resist the use of these sanctions and other manoeuvres as tools of regime change,” said President Mnangagwa.

Over the past two decades, Zimbabwe has been groaning under the weight of illegal economic sanctions imposed by the US and the European Union (EU) bloc as punishment for the land reform programme meant to address colonial land imbalances.

Since the illegal sanctions were imposed in 2001, Zimbabwe has lost an estimated US$42 billion and an estimated US$4,5 billion in donor support annually for more than two decades.

The country lost US$2 billion in IMF, World Bank, and African Development Bank (AfDB) loans which could have helped in developing infrastructure, as well as losing commercial loans amounting to US$18 billion which could have been extended to the private sector and other companies.

SADC member-states have since declared October 25 as Anti-Sanctions Day as the region exerts pressure on the US and its allies to remove the illegal sanctions choking Zimbabwe’s development.

Health Minister VP Chiwenga: Covid-19 taskforce urged to strengthen national response

Health Minister VP Chiwenga: Covid-19 taskforce urged to strengthen national response. He said the national response has seen a number of challenges, including the significant slowing of people coming forward for vaccination, although with the magnitude and duration of each of the three pandemic waves experienced so far worsening each wave, more had to be done to prevent a new wave.

The upgraded national Covid-19 taskforce met yesterday, just a day after Cabinet approved the new structure, with Vice President and Minister of Health and Child Care Constantino Chiwenga in the chair and setting the pace for a fuller response.

“These challenges and programme gaps are a clear indication that despite the many achievements recorded so far, we still need to do much, much more if we are to prevent or subdue a potentially bigger and longer fourth wave,” said VP Chiwenga. “Addressing these challenges and gaps calls for enhanced participation and response ownership by provincial and district teams from all sectors and not just from the health sector.

“Cabinet, therefore, decided to come up with a revised response structure aimed at consolidating the gains made so far and at strengthening the national response in order to address remaining challenges so that the gains and achievements made so far are not lost.”

VP Chiwenga said the aim of the new ministerial committee was to lead the country’s initiatives at national, provincial and district level for a strengthened, well-coordinated, efficient and effective national response based on best practices, lessons learnt and was driven by science.

The working party of officials will meet every Friday morning to prepare updates for the ministerial committee sitting on Mondays, with the provincial Ministers of State now included on that committee to ensure detailed responses from all areas.

“These meeting schedules will run for a month and then the frequency of the meetings will be reviewed,” said VP Chiwenga. The ministerial committee meetings will be held, “every Monday morning to discuss technical updates from the working party of officials and to prepare an update report and recommendations to Cabinet,” he said.

VP Chiwenga said Zimbabwe had been very strategic in its pandemic response right from the start by adopting a comprehensive and integrated implementation and coordinated approach in collaboration with all stakeholders. “As a result, the country has made very good progress in its preparedness and response to the pandemic,” he said.

“Capacities in disease surveillance, case management as well as in local manufacturing of essential Covid-19 commodities have been built, for example. “The vaccination programme is admired by most globally and is leading on the African continent.”

Dairibord invests US$3,5m to upgrade its capacity

Dairibord invests US$3,5m to upgrade its capacity. Company’s secretary, Samson Punzisani, said the business was geared to take full advantage of the high demand through increased production capacity and forward planning for inputs into manufacturing. Dairiboard Holdings says it invested US$3,5 million towards building additional capacity in its ice-cream and UHT (ultra high temperature) plants as the group seeks to improve the product portfolio and margin performance.

“The company invested about US$1,5 million in a recently commissioned ammonia plant that will see growth in ice-cream production, improving product portfolio mix and margin performance,” he said in a statement of the financials for the period to September 30, 2021. He added that the company also invested US$2 million into additional UHT filling and packaging equipment that will double capacity for cartonised beverages towards the end of the last quarter of 2021.

Mr Punzisani said the continued depreciation of the Zimbabwe dollar posed a threat to business performance, however, notwithstanding the challenges faced by the auction system, he said the resolutions reached at a recent stakeholder engagement between Government, the RBZ and the business community, if adhered to could have an impact on the forex operating environment and the business at large.

He said the group’s drive to generate foreign currency revenues continue to bear fruit with year to date foreign currency revenue up 196 percent from 2020. The group’s trading update for the quarter under review shows that revenue increased 11 percent from the prior quarter and 69 percent in historical terms above the third quarter of 2020.

Year to date inflation adjusted revenue was 67 percent above the same period in 2020. Mr Punzisani said significant cost push pressures ahead of inflation were experienced from the local and foreign supply sources of raw and packing materials, negatively impacting margins.

“Cost containment, cost reduction, and strategic procurement of inputs mitigated the negative impact thereof, resulting in a slight recovery in the year to date operating margin to six percent compared to four percent in 2020,.

He noted that during the period under review, the group’s borrowings were up 30 percent at $839 million from the 30 June 2021 quarter, as the business leveraged the balance sheet for growth. “Borrowings were utilised to fund stocks of materials to support growing volumes and capital investments,” Mr Punzisani said.

He added that delays in disbursements from the auction market also contributed to rising debt, but indicated the group remained sufficiently liquid with a current ratio of 1,59 up from 1,38 in December 2020 and 1,40 as at June 30, 2021. According to the group’s trading update, raw milk utilised in the quarter was seven percent up from the second quarter and up five percent over prior year. Cumulative raw milk utilised was three percent ahead of prior year.

Mr Punzisani said during the period, milk supply remained constrained by the high cost of stock feeds. “The Government launched command silage, a welcome initiative intended to support dairy farmers grow their own silage in order to improve stock feed availability and reduce cost of milk production, this could see improved milk production in the ensuing year,” he said.

During the quarter under review, sales volumes grew by 78 percent over the same period last year and 23 percent over the prior quarter while year to date sales volumes of 67 million litres were 63 percent above the same period last year. “The beverages category anchored the growth with a 165 percent increase over prior year, whilst the Foods category grew by 49 percent,” he said.

Liquid milks surpassed previous year by 13 percent, but growth within the category was constrained by raw milk supply shortages. The group’s capacity utilisation increased to 60 percent during the quarter under review from 33 percent in the third quarter of 2020 largely due to growth of the Beverages category.

“Despite the significant increase in volumes across all categories, the business was still able to meet demand due to supply side challenges,” he said, adding that major maintenance work on key lines hampered production but will spur growth going forward. Mr Punzisani said the improved performance in the third quarter 2021 is expected to sustain into the final quarter of 2021 as demand is expected to remain firm.

Zim’s Parliament resumes sitting. The Fourth Session of the Ninth Parliament was opened recently and the President also set the legislative agenda for the Session.  Following the official opening of the Fourth Session of the Ninth Parliament, the National Assembly resumed sitting yesterday with parliamentarians commending President Mnangagwa for the State of the Nation Address delivered during the opening ceremony recently.

Yesterday, Proportional Representation member, Cde Colletta Mutambisi, moved a motion in the National Assembly thanking the President for his SONA speech that she said addressed critical issues affecting the country.

“The address extensively covered issues affecting the country and would want to thank the President for his appreciation of the peace that is prevailing in the country as peace and unity are pre-requisites for national development,” she said. Cde Mutambisi said the President also touched on issues to do with women empowerment which was a key component for achieving national development as envisaged in Vision 2030.

In his address, the President said more resources for capacitation of women would be channelled through the Women’s Microfinance Bank and the Small and Medium Enterprises Corporation.

Cde Mutambisi also said the President had thanked Zimbabweans for their resilience in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic and the continued existence of the illegal sanctions which she said had impacted negatively on peoples’ livelihoods.

Gokwe-Chireya legislator Cde Torerayi Moyo described the President’s address as incisive, thoughtful and comprehensive. “I want to thank the President for giving us direction as a nation and as the legislature on issues we are supposed to debate in this session,” said Cde Moyo.

The President set a legislative agenda containing 40 Bills addressing various socio-economic and political issues affecting the country. Cde Moyo also thanked the President for the disbursement of devolution and the Constituency Development funds that he said had gone a long way in initiating and completing various community development projects.

Zanu PF Chief Whip Cde Pupurai Togarepi said the President had exhibited awareness of issues affecting the country in his address. “Reading the SONA showed me that the President is aware of issues affecting the country and has his hands on the wheel.

“So it is critical for every Zimbabwean to join him in working for the development of the country,” he said. Cde Togarepi reiterated calls for the removal of sanctions saying they were crippling the country’s development agenda.

Former USA President Donald Trump to launch his own social media app. The ex-US President says he will launch the app TRUTH Social which he says will ‘stand up to Big Tech’ companies, like the ones he’s already barred from using. It will be created through a new company formed by a merger of the Trump Media and Technology Group and a special acquisition company.

Donald Trump is readying to launch his own social media app early next year, after he was kicked off Twitter and Facebook. It is expected to be released early in 2022.

Trump said in a statement about the launch: “We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favourite American President has been silenced.

“This is unacceptable. I am excited to send out my first TRUTH on TRUTH Social very soon. TMTG was founded with a mission to give a voice to all.

“I’m excited to soon begin sharing my thoughts on TRUTH Social and to fight back against Big Tech.” The social network, set for an initial ‘beta’ launch next month before a full rollout in early 2022, is the first of three stages in the company’s plans.

It will be followed by a subscription video-on-demand service called TMTG+ that will feature entertainment, news and podcasts, according to a news release.
