Former Botswana President Ian Khama reportedly flees country to SA

Former Botswana President Ian Khama reportedly flees the country to SA. Reports coming from Botswana indicate that former Botswana President Seretse Khama Ian Khama allegedly fled the neighbouring country after a court order for him to relinquish his weapons to the Directorate of Intelligence and Security (DIS) was granted.

Below is an account of how he is allegedly to have sneaked out of Botswana on Monday morning. The former president reportedly left Serowe this morning heading for Gaborone, but his trip was allegedly altered as it took him to his farm in Tswapong, possibly just as a decoy.

He allegedly ended up at the Martin’s Drift border where he supposedly parted ways with his usual security detail. Private security took over as Khama crossed the border into neighbouring SA pressing his own security detail to return home.

A helicopter believed to be waiting in one of the farms allegedly airlifted him without following the normal travel protocols, which raised fears that Khama could have skipped the country ahead of handing in the weapons.

Khama told Botswana media that he was free to travel to any country without looking for permission. “I am in SA and I don’t need permission from anyone to travel,” Khama is quoted saying, ” I haven’t skipped the country. I have travelled to SA as many other people do”.

This is a developing story….

ZEC speaks on by-elections

ZEC speaks on by-elections. The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has opened over long standing allegations that it is hiding behind the State of Disaster Act to renegade from implementing by-elections in a number of constituencies in Zimbabwe.

The country has lots of empty parliamentary seats caused by the recalling of MDC Alliance MPs by Thokozani Khupe and later Mwonzora.

In a statement the elections body said, “ZEC periodically assesses its state of preparedness for all constitutionally mandated electoral process. The Commission works with provisional dates as the actual dates can only be proclaimed by the President.

“By-elections could be proclaimed earlier or later than the set provisional dates. The provisional dates are merely for planning and procurement of election material. The nation should be guided accordingly.”

Commenting on the statement political analyst Pedzisayi Ruhanya said, “The President is the leader of a political party, a political contestant so using the power of incumbency and the vague nature of the law, he abuses that power to the advantage of ZANU PF. Usually when
@ZECzim behaves like this, it would have been informed by discussions in ZANU PF.”

Zinwa speaks on the Gwayi-Shangani Dam evictions proposal

Zinwa speaks on the Gwayi-Shangani Dam evictions proposal. This was revealed by the Zimbabwe National Water Authority spokesperson Marjorie Munyonga. Binga villagers who face eviction in Lubimbi to pave way for the Gwayi-Shangani Dam have been assured that eviction will not take place this season as evaluation was still taking place.

“Zinwa conducted a data capture exercise after marking the dam’s high flood level in 2018. The exercise identified the people and infrastructure such as powerlines and roads that were within the high flood level zone and needed to be relocated,” Munyonga said.My fon haina moto

“The information was forwarded to the Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development and Local Government ministries, which are the relevant ministries for the relocation of affected people.” She said the dam would not start impounding water this season.

“The two ministries have since deployed their teams, which are on the ground evaluating the number of homesteads, roads, powerlines, schools and other properties that fall within the high flood level in preparation for the relocation and the rerouting of roads and powerlines.

“The dam is, however, not expected to start impounding water this season and has two openings at the bottom, each measuring 5m widex8m high to let the floods pass through the dam, hence there is no risk of people being affected by floods should the rainy season start.”

The construction of the dam is set to displace around 2 000 villagers from Lubimbi in Binga. Last week, Binga villagers said they had identified suitable land for their resettlement in the Nakanono area.

Government recently carried out an assessment of the value of the properties that are likely to be affected by the expansion of the Gwayi-Shangani Dam in Lubimbi with a view to compensate the villagers in United States dollars.

Commissioning of phase one of the project is supposed to take place in December, and thereafter the villagers will be relocated. The Gwayi-Shangani project is expected to supply water to Bulawayo.

Car stolen in Soouth Africa, found in Bulawayo day after

Car stolen in South Africa found in Bulawayo day after. In a statement on Friday, Safeguard said its Bulawayo director Warren King received a call in the early hours of Wednesday morning from EzyTrack, a satellite tracking company, notifying him that a silver Mercedes-Benz C180 stolen in South Africa the previous day was in Bulawayo.

Three suspected car thieves believed to have stolen a vehicle in South Africa were arrested on Wednesday in Bulawayo, thanks to satellite tracking and quick action by the police and a private security firm.

The company requested Safeguard’s assistance. “King wasted no time in jumping into his car to look for the missing vehicle. Following the co-ordinates provided by EzyTrack, he discovered it parked at a lodge in the leafy suburb of Khumalo,” the security firm said.

“He parked his car in a position that blocked the Mercedes-Benz, so that it was impossible for anyone to drive it away and established contact with the lodge manager. After notifying the police and leaving his car parked there, he moved some distance away to a position from which he could watch the Mercedes and the suspects should they attempt to leave.

During the wait for the police Vehicle Theft Squad, he observed the suspected thieves coming out of their room.” Noticing that it was impossible to move the vehicle, the thieves became suspicious and retreated into the lodge. The police then arrived and arrested the thieves while hiding in the bar area.

“By combining the latest technology with the strong relationships between law enforcement agents and security companies we will make sure that criminals trying to conduct their illegal activities in Zimbabwe have no place to hide,” King said.

Teenager suffocates inside fuel tanker

Teenager suffocates inside fuel tanker. Onesisa Ncube died on the spot while Mr Alpha Mathe (21) was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital where he was treated and discharged. Mr Mathe lost consciousness only to recover at the hospital.

A 19-year-old from Pumula South in Bulawayo suffocated while his cousin was hospitalised after they went into a fuel tank to clean it in Kelvin North industrial site on Saturday. Their uncle, Mr Feleki Mathema, a mechanic by profession, told Chronicle that he secured a part time job for the two to clean trucks. Mr Mathema said as a family of Seventh Day Adventists, they were not working during the day on Saturday and the boys moved on site after 6PM.

He said he had told them not to go inside the fuel tank while cleaning the petrol tankers, but they both did not heed his advice. Mr Mathema said he received a call at about 8PM to rush to the industrial site as there was an emergency.

“I sped to the scene and upon arriving I found fire brigade vehicles on site. Already my gut was telling me something was wrong. They told me that one of the boys had been rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital. I guess it was a way to get me settled before they then informed me that the other one who is 19 years of age had suffocated inside a fuel tank,” he said.

Mr Mathema said before they went to work, he had emphasised to them not to enter the tank. He said the petrol tanker driver had initially called him asking if he was going to come and pick the boys up.

“I told him that the contract we had is that when the boys were on the job, the driver is the one who should bring them home. So, he said he asked the boys to come the following day to finish up the job. But they insisted that they wanted just 30 minutes to do the job. Within 45 minutes of receiving the call, my boy was gone,” he said.

Mr Mathema said when Mr Mathe regained consciousness at the hospital he kept asking for Onesisa. He said yesterday morning they quizzed him on what had really transpired. “He told us that he was the first one to enter the petrol tanker. But he felt he was suffocating and exited. But Onesisa then laughed at him as weak, and he entered the tank as well and within a few minutes he was suffocating,” he said.

“Unfortunately, the older one was still to recover from the petrol that he had inhaled, he called for help but the person who came refused to go inside the tank. He (Mr Mathe) entered the tank but he was already too weak to lift the boy out. He then requested to be pulled out of the tank. And that is how he survived. He was rushed to the hospital unconscious and had to be put on oxygen on his way.”

Mr Mathema, who seemed to blame himself for the tragic loss of his nephew, kept on reiterating that he had emphasised to them never to go into the tank. He said he even asked them to do the work yesterday but they insisted on going on Saturday.

“For instance, the person who used to go with Onesisa to clean the trucks on the day, declined to go saying they should postpone it to the following day but he insisted on going on the same day,” he said. Acting Bulawayo Chief Fire Officer Mr Linos Phiri said his team attended the scene after receiving calls at about 8:30PM. He said when his team arrived Onesisa had already died.

“His body was retrived by one of the firefighters who entered the tank with a full breathing apparatus and removed the body assisted by other crew members. The body was then handed to the police. His friend who was assisting him had already been taken to the hospital,” said Mr Phiri. He said cleaning of petrol tankers should be done by experienced individuals to avert similar disasters.

Hwange Power Station hit by a technical fault

Hwange Power Station hit by a technical fault. In a statement this Monday, ZESA the technical fault has resulted in the depressed generation of electricity at Hwange Power Station. Zimbabwe’s power utility ZESA Holdings said there was a technical fault at Hwange Power Station which resulted in limited electricity supply in the national grid.

It said: ZESA Holdings would like to advise its valued customers countrywide that there is limited power supply in the national grid as a result of a technical fault that affected Hwange Power Station.

The technical fault has resulted in depressed generation of electricity at Hwange Power Station. Restoration of service is underway and customers are advised to use the available power sparingly.

The inconvenience caused is sincerely regretted. Zimbabwe’s northern and southern neighbours, Zambia and South Africa respectively, are also experiencing power cuts. On Saturday, Zambia experienced a nationwide blackout which that country’s power utility, ZESCO, blamed on a disturbance of its Interconnected Power System. ZESCO said:

On Saturday 6th November 2021 at 07:25 hours, the Zambian Interconnected Power System experienced a disturbance following the loss of significant generation in the Zambian system which resulted in the separation of the entire Zambian power system from the rest of the Southern African Interconnected Power System. This caused a nationwide blackout.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the cause of the disturbance was external to the Zambian interconnected power system. ZESCO immediately began power restoration, which is still ongoing, with power restored in parts of Lusaka, Southern, Western and Central provinces.

Further, investigations are still underway to establish the cause of the loss of generation and subsequent nationwide blackout. On Monday (today) South Africa’s Eskom said “Stage 4 load shedding will be implemented from 13:00 until 05:00 on Friday; thereafter Stage 2 load shedding will be implemented as previously communicated until 05:00 on Saturday.”

Three children, including a toddler, died after eating a packet of noodles on Sunday during a visit to relatives in New Brighton, in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. Sinothando Ngwendu is a cousin to Olwam and Athenkosi Ngwendu. Said Naidu:

It is alleged that on Saturday, 6 November 2021, the three children accompanied their grandparents on a visit to relatives in New Brighton. The children stayed over and on Sunday, the 11-year-old girl went to the shop and bought a packet of noodles.

It is believed the girl cooked the packet of noodles and the children ate it before leaving to go back to Motherwell. Naidu said all three children allegedly ate from the same packet of noodles. She said:

When the children arrived home in Motherwell, Sinothando complained of feeling nauseous. Her grandmother gave her some water to drink. Olwam also complained of stomach cramps and nausea. While being driven with private transport to the Motherwell clinic, they passed away.

Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube accused of desecrating sacred sites in Matobo

Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube accused of desecrating sacred sites in Matobo. The area is located in Chap village, a few kilometres from Matopo National Park. Villagers who spoke to Southern Eye said Ncube is building lodges on the site, thereby desecrating it.

Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube has been accused of destroying a sacred site reserved for cultural ceremonies in his rural home in Matobo District, Matabeleland South province.

A villager, Sithandazile Dube said local traditional leaders raised concern over Ncube’s project and appear to have been cowed into submission by the Government. Said Dube: We tried to ask our leaders to stand up and fight for our heritage, but we yielded nothing.

When people raised concerns about Ncube’s project in that area, we were told that he was given permission by the government. Mthuli was born and raised here; he is the same person who should be protecting our culture.

It is unfortunate that there is nothing we can do about it. We will just watch as they destroy our culture. Our heritage is slowly vanishing, it can be this place today and tomorrow it will be somewhere else.

There used to be nice caves here called Bhabharadzi, where tourists used to come and visit, but now, even the road has been destroyed. Matobo District Council chief executive officer Elvis Sibanda confirmed the project. He said:

We are aware that the Finance minister is building lodges in Chap area near Whitewater village in Matobo, but I’m not sure if he was given permission to do so by the villagers. We are not aware that the area is a sacred place that needs to be reserved for cultural heritage.

If the villagers are complaining, then the matter needs to be resolved. Ncube’s spokesperson Clive Mphambela declined to comment on the matter saying it was personal. He said:

This is a personal issue that I would not like to talk about as I believe that Ncube is better placed to comment. But, generally, the project commenced in 2015 with the permission of cultural leaders and the Road Trust.

He said Ncube has embarked on several projects to develop the Matobo district. He said Ncube has so far drilled 22 boreholes and is building lodges in the area.

ERC urges Minister July Moyo to censure Chief Charumbira

ERC urges Minister July Moyo to censure Chief Charumbira. Charumbira declared that chiefs and all traditional leaders owned ZANU PF and, therefore, could not be separated from the ruling party by the Constitution.

The Election Resource Centre (ERC) has requested Local Government minister July Moyo to censure Chiefs Council president Fortune Charumbira for comments he allegedly made while addressing the ZANU PF national conference in Bindura last month.

ERC said the comments made by Charumbira were a gross violation of the Constitution.

Section 281(2) of the Constitution states that: “Traditional leaders must not (a) be members of any political party or in any way participate in partisan politics, and (b) or act in a partisan manner”. ERC called on Minister Moyo to hold Chief Charumbira to account for his utterances as they have the potential to undermine the rule of law. It said in a statement:

The Election Resource Centre (ERC) on November 3, 2021, filed a complaint with the Minister of Local Government, Honourable July Moyo against Chief Fortune Charumbira for contravening section 281 of the Constitution by participating in partisan politics for comments made on October 29, 2021, at the ZANU PF annual conference in Bindura.

… If left to fester, this has the potential to destroy the rule of law and constitutional supremacy in Zimbabwe. The Minister of Local Government and all electoral stakeholders must resist the temptation to exempt the conduct of Chief Charumbira from necessary scrutiny on his conduct.

ERC implored Moyo to investigate Charumbira’s conduct in terms of section 7 of the Traditional Leaders Act and institute disciplinary proceedings against him to ensure that the supremacy of the Constitution prevails.

In 2018, Charumbira was dragged before the High Court by the ERC, where an order, HC1718/18, was issued compelling him to withdraw the partisan comments he had made. It is not clear if Charumbira withdrew the comments he made when he called on traditional leaders to support ZANU PF ahead of the 2018 elections.

Drama as nurse steals COVID-19 test kits from State House. A nurse based at the Angel of Hope Clinic, which is owned by First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa has been arrested and charged with theft of three COVID-19 test kits worth US$5.

The State, led by Anesu Chirenje opposed bail, saying the accused person was a flight risk and could interfere with State witnesses.

Shayanewako’s lawyer Denford Halimani said he was surprised that the State opposed bail on a US$5 case. Mangosi initially remanded the accused in custody, but later granted him $1 000 bail. Shayanewako will appear again in court on 30 November. The complainant in the matter is Bernard Madzima, a medical doctor.

It is alleged that sometime in May 2021, Shayanewako was in charge of medical equipment at the clinic located at State House and stole three COVID-19 test kits.

A police report was filed, leading to Shayanewako’s arrest. The State alleges that the stolen property was worth US$5 and nothing was recovered.

This Is Who Thuli Phongolo is Actually Dating

Social media is all twisted about who Thuli Phongolo is dating. I mean, we are a little confused too. Most recently, she has been linked to Mr JazziQ when pictures emerged of them looking cozy and very saucy with each other. The internet was immediately set ablaze with the photos as people were shocked at how fast she moves on.

Just two months ago, she was linked to DJ Maphorisa in similar dating rumours, and tweeps were even excitedly wishing them well. A video went viral of the two of them looking all loved up, and we were certain something was cooking in that kitchen.

She went online to refute the rumours strongly, and told fans that they need to stop with the rumours.

If you think that’s complicated, just wait. Shortly before that, she had once again been rumoured to be dating yet another ZAleb – singer Master KG. To this one, she reacted very strongly, with a comment that rubbed fans of the Jerusalema star the wrong way. Responding to these rumours, Thuli told fans “Please respect me”. Ouch! Doesn’t that feel like she thinks she is too good for Master KG?

Her history of being linked to celebrities could go on for hours, so we’ll summarise. Before the Master KG thing, she was linked to Duduzane Zuma, then there was Erica Macheru, and of course, her ex, DJ Zinhle’s bae Murdah Bongz.

High Court: Single Fathers now able to acquire Birth Certificates for their kids

High Court: Single fathers now able to acquire Birth Certificates for their kids. Harare High Court judge, Justice Owen Tagu has ordered the Registrar of Birth and Death registration to allow fathers to apply for and obtain birth certificates for their children born out of wedlock if the mothers deserted or abandoned their children.

The judgment which was handed down on 8 November 2021 came after Bernard Tashu together with the Child rights activist, Petronella Nyamapfene approached the High Court to compel the Registrar to comply with the Birth and Death Registration Act which allows fathers to apply for birth certificates for their children in circumstances where the mother abandoned or deserted the child. The Registrar was refusing fathers to secure birth certificates of their children without a marriage certificate or without the mother of the child.

Tashu was represented by the Child Rights lawyer, Pamela Musimwa of the Justice for Children, whilst Nyamapepfene was represented by Darlington Marange of the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum.

MDC A issues statement on VP Tendai Biti abduction reports. This comes after social media reports claimed that unknown gunmen attacked and kidnapped Biti from his home in Harare last night.

The MDC Alliance has allayed fears that the party’s co-vice president Tendai Biti has been abducted from his home.

Reports claimed that loud gunshots were heard around 11 PM at Biti’s house and five armed men suspected to be state security agents assaulted and dragged Biti into an unidentified white ISUZU twin cab which then drove off at a very high speed.

MDC Alliance spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere on Tuesday morning said she had spoken to Biti who “seemed frazzled”. Mahere tweeted:

I spoke very briefly with VP @BitiTendai. He seemed frazzled & said “pane zvirikuitika.” He said he had to attend to something urgently but would revert to me as soon as he is able. This is the verified position. Please await further updates from our official channels.

MSD: Heavy rains expected this week. This was said by Meteorological Services Department (MSD) Senior Meteorologist James Ngoma in an interview with ZBC News on Monday.  Zimbabwe is expected to start receiving heavy rainfall from Wednesday (tomorrow) starting with the southern parts of the country.

Said Ngoma: It has rather been dry right throughout the country, but on Wednesday we are expecting rains and further spread of the rainfall pattern from southern country covering the whole country, solid rain indeed. We advise people to keep indoors during thunderous periods.

Meanwhile, the country has been experiencing high temperatures over the past couple of weeks and this is expected to continue right into next week, according to MSD.

Health expert Professor Solwayo Ngwenya said members of the public should increase their intake of water and avoid being outdoors as such heat waves are associated with health risks. He said:

Anyone can be affected by sweltering temperatures; anyone can suffer a heat stroke in such temperatures, although those members of the public suffering from non-communicable diseases can be affected more than others. Everyone should take shelter and drink plenty of water, more than eight glasses per day.

The sweltering temperatures may also cause extreme dehydration and put many people at risk of deep vein thrombosis, which may result in a sudden and catastrophic collapse. These temperatures may cause burst tyres, posing a danger to motorists.

Motorists must take extreme measures to avoid overheating tyres which can cause road traffic accidents.

Groom knocked by pastor for over k!ssing bride: Video. The romantic moment was obviously one of the highlights of the wedding ceremony that caught the attention of patrons who quickly took out their phones to document it on video.

A groom who might have waited all his life to say “I Do” to the love of his life could not spare another minute when the officiating pastor gave him the green light to seal off their union with a k!ss in the church.

However, the kissing session which took longer than expected was interrupted by the pastor who landed a knock on the groom’s head for abusing his new wife’s lips.

The video has triggered mixed reactions on social media as many bemoaned the pastor’s action of stopping the love birds from expressing their love legally in the presence of God.

How to tell if someone has blocked you on WhatsApp

How to tell if someone has blocked you on WhatsApp. Blocking someone on WhatsApp is the best way to stop them from calling or messaging you.

WhatsApp is a chatting, phone, and photo sharing app used by hundreds of millions of people around the world. So it’s not surprising that WhatsApp lets you block users who you don’t want to hear from anymore.

But if you’re the one who’s been blocked, how can you tell? Unfortunately, there’s no direct way to find out if you’ve been blocked on WhatsApp. But there are hints that you can use to figure it out.

If you think someone’s blocked you on WhatsApp, run through the checklist below to see if your hunch is true.

Quick tip: If you find out that someone’s blocked you on WhatsApp, the best move is to leave them alone. Repeatedly trying to contact someone who’s blocked you can constitute harassment.

You can’t see a contact’s ‘last seen’ status

The first thing to do is check the user’s “last seen” status. This is a message that updates whenever that user opens WhatsApp, and tells you the last time they used the app.

f you don’t see one, you may have been blocked – although the user might have just disabled the feature on their account.

You don’t see a contact’s new profile picture

If someone blocks you and then changes their profile picture, you won’t see the new profile picture – you’ll always see whatever the image was when you got blocked.

This means that there isn’t a definite way to tell if they’re updating their profile picture. But if you know this contact updated their picture often, and now they’ve suddenly stopped, that’s a sign that you’ve been blocked.

Your messages only show one checkmark

WhatsApp uses checkmark symbols to track your messages. One checkmark symbol next to your message means it’s been sent, while two checkmarks mean that it’s been received.

When you message someone who’s blocked you, that second checkmark won’t ever show up. If you’re connected to the internet and your message still never gets delivered, there’s a good chance that you’re blocked.

Your calls will fail

Similarly, you won’t be able to call anyone that’s blocked you either. When you try, the call won’t go through.
You can’t add the contact to a WhatsApp group

Finally, try to include the contact in a WhatsApp group. If you get a message saying you aren’t permitted to add them to your group, that’s the surest sign that you were blocked.
