Thieves pretend to be council workers to steal manhole lids

Thieves pretend to be council workers to steal manhole lids. Local government authorities have reported that they have lost many manhole covers to thieves who disguise themselves as council workers.

Harare City Council spokesperson Mr Michael Chideme appealed to communities to assist authorities by giving information on known culprits. He added that the City of Harare is currently working on replacing some of the stolen covers.

Masvingo Municipality spokesperson Ms Ashleigh Jinjika said the local authority has decided to reward those who provide the local authority valuable and viable tip-offs that helps to apprehend the culprits. She said:

This year we have recorded an incredibly dangerous and draining act of vandalism which has cost us a lot of resources, time and finances at a time when our budget is already stretched. We are aware some of the lids are being sold to scrap metal dealers and we have used the carrot-and-stick approach to avert thefts and vandalism cases.

Local authorities are, however, trying to minimise thefts through strategies such as putting locks on manhole covers and roping in scrap metal dealers to ensure they do not buy stolen material. Composite manhole covers that do not have a ready market have been adopted.

In 2015, the Johannesburg Roads Agency in South Africa introduced non-metal manhole covers and drainage grates to replace metal ones that were being stolen regularly.

The alternative manhole covers have no monetary value and are made of materials like ductile iron, plastic, fibreglass and polymer. Also, the materials weigh about three-quarters less than the cast iron manhole covers.

Back home, Mutare City Council spokesperson Mr Spren Mutiwi said they are in the process of replacing the stolen cast iron manhole covers with concrete lids. He added:

The most disturbing thing is we do not know the actual number of covers that have been stolen. Some of these manhole lids are in secluded areas, hence there is need for a proper assessment.

Mutare City Council has created an awareness campaign aimed at informing that theft of the lids causes increased cases of blockages, dangers to human life and outbreaks associated with the release of toxic gases. A snap survey by The Sunday Mail Society last week contacted revealed that scrap metal dealers pay US$95 for intact lids and US$85 for broken pieces per tonne.

One of the dealers identified as Shorai Muchero said clients do not deliver the product to him directly, but through his agents who move around doing collections, usually at night.

Fake whiskies flood Zimbabwe

Fake whiskies flood Zimbabwe. Bullred sales manager Tatenda Ruwodo told The Standard that there was a significant rise in the number of people selling illicit alcohol packaged as Jameson Irish whiskey, hence the additional security features on the packaging to distinguish the original from the counterfeit.

Zimbabwe’s official distributor of Jameson Irish Whiskey, Bullred Distribution, has introduced extra security features on the packaging of its products as “counterfeit whiskies” flood the country. Said Ruwodo: We have received complaints from members of the public who have purchased alcohol from various places and have complained of texture, smell and taste.

We recognised that they were sold illicit imitation alcohol and we addressed this issue by adding extra security features to our bottles to give customers the tools to identify stock distributed through the original channels. … Consumers should look out for a clear plastic seal on the lid of each bottle, as well as a white “Drink Responsibly” sticker on the side.

As Bullred Distribution, we pride ourselves in selling the original product, not the imitations that you see in the market and we are actively working to educate consumers. Drinking fake whiskeys has several health risks, which vary in severity from alcohol poisoning to cancer, liver disease, hormone imbalances, loss of hair, and even death.

Zimbabwe currently does not have laws against the distribution of illicit alcohol, which is mostly sold at cheaper prices compared to that sold by official suppliers.

More than 10 000 people lose US$32 million in Ponzi Schemes

More than 10 000 people lose US$32 million in Ponzi Schemes. Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said some people have sold houses, vehicles and other properties to invest in pyramid schemes and lost heavily, while others have ended up committing suicide.

More than 10 000 people have filed police reports across the country within the last year after being swindled over US$30 million by scammers through pyramid schemes.

He said: At least 10 000 complainants reportedly lost over US$30 million between them. We have handled some 892 such cases involving thousands of complainants. The scammers quickly disappear after swindling the unsuspecting investors.

Millions of dollars were lost, some lost houses while others committed suicide upon discovering they would have been duped. We have handled suicide cases related to Ponzi schemes.

As police, urge people to desist from such dubious investments. Ponzi schemes start with lucrative interest rates but in the end, the investors will lose. People must not be that gullible and they should shun such illegal schemes.

In some cases, Asst Comm Nyathi said, the scammers create WhatsApp groups where the administrators and other agents are paid handsomely to be able to entice and convince more investors. According to statistics from the police, at least 2 000 people reported Beven Capital for fraud involving US$17 823 000 and the chief suspects are still on the run.

Chief Ndiweni: COP26 extravagance exposes Mnangagwa’s insincerity

Chief Ndiweni: COP26 extravagance exposes Mnangagwa’s insincerity. Mnangagwa reportedly took with him more than 100 people and hired a private jet from the former Soviet Republic of Azerbaijan, at a reported cost of US$1 million.

Dethroned Ntabazinduna chief Felix Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni said that President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s extravagant United Kingdom trip for the COP26 last week exposes the hollowness of the anti-sanctions campaign.

Ndiweni suggested that the plane that took Mnangagwa to Scotland could have been carrying smuggled precious stones. He said: Mnangagwa’s extravagance shows the falsehoods of the sanctions campaign. Over a hundred world leaders arrived in Glasgow for the climate change conference.

Among the leaders present was Mnangagwa, whose delegation was double that of South Africa, a nation that is one of the G20 nations. … Zimbabwean government’s position has always been that the targeted sanctions crippled the economy and finances of the government completely.

Surprisingly, the world witnessed a huge delegation from Zimbabwe in Glasgow for the COP26 and huge spending allowances for each delegate in United States dollars throughout the conference. The former Ntabazinduna chief took part in protests against Mnangagwa in the UK during the COP26 summit.

Black Coffee Shuts Down Kenya

Star DJ Black Coffee was this weekend in Nairobi, Kenya, where he was shown a lot of love. The concert, which was held at Ngong Race Course in Nairobi, was the ultimate proof of two things: Black Coffee is an international legend, and Kenyans know how to party!

Right from the onset, the energy was insane. The event was set to begin at 1:00 pm, with many opening acts before Black Coffee’s set at 9:00pm. Concert-goers started arriving as early as 12:30pm, contrary to everything you’ve heard about “African timing”.

Tickets sold for Ksh 5000 which is about R674, and while it is a lot of money in Kenya, you couldn’t tell from how packed the audience was. In fact, speaking to ZAlebs, event organizers informed us that VIP tickets, retailing for R1348, sold out a week in advance, and there were only a handful of gate tickets on the day.
A big shout out to the event’s sponsors, Hennessy Kenya, who ensured a big and classy event. Food was in plenty and drinks flowed endlessly, and the crowd was having a marvellous time.

The event celebrated Afro House as a booming genre across the country and continent, and eight local Kenyan DJs opened for DJ Black Coffee, each better than the last.
In order of performance, the opening acts were: Xan Woods, MGM Kenya, Chucky, Jahawi Bertolli, Foozak, Vidza, Suraj and Saint Evo. There were three more performances after Black Coffee’s set, by Kenya’s Blinky Bill, Kaneda and Onedown. Have a look at the pictures of these celebrity DJs rocking the audience.
Black Coffee finally took the stage at 9:00pm, and his energy was contagious and through the roof. Although it was a Sunday and most of the attendees had work in the morning, nothing was going to stop them from seeing their fave live in concert. “I just love Black Coffee so much”, one fan told ZAlebs when asked about staying out late on a Sunday night. Well, with the energy he brought to the stage, we certainly see why!

Remembering socialite and businessman Ginimbi a year later

$

0

You can say they are famous for being famous! One such was the late Genius Kadungure, who dictated pace in his lifetime and in death. Lovingly called Ginimbi by his legion of followers, death robbed his fans of a hard-worker and entertainer par excellence.

People make their names for different things, good or bad. There are others, though, who attain fame naturally, without much effort, larger-than-life characters of our time. He loved his life and he lived it the way he wanted.

Ginimbi was a social animal of note. Often, he surrounded himself with friends and an assortment of beautiful women, regularly hosting his all-white themed parties. Let’s face it, who didn’t know Ginimbi? Kadungure was born on October, 10, 1984, in a family of four. He would have turned 37 last month.

Ginimbi died on Novermber 8, 2020, in a road traffic accident along Borrowdale Road together with three friends Limumba Karim from Malawi, a model only identified as Elisha from Mozambique and our very own fitness trainer Mitchelle Amuli, who was more popularly known as Moana.

She was named Moana in social circles after the 2016 Walt Disney animation musical adventure of the same title. Both Karim and Elisha had come to spend the weekend at Ginimbi’s mansion in Domboshava when tragedy struck. They went out for Moana’s 27th birthday party at Dreams Nightclub and died while driving back to Ginimbi’s house.

Ginimbi Moana

The quartet died on the spot! It has been one year since Ginimbi and Moana left mother earth but memories still linger of how the two managed their affairs on and off social media. There has been a huge gap following the death of the two. Even on social media the silence is loud.

As Ginimbi once declared: “My life. Your entertainment”. Who has replaced or can replace Ginimbi, many have been asking? Unlike most people, Ginimbi matured at an early age.

He is said to have started engaging in small business transactions at the age of 17. He soon became a middleman securing gas for domestic users through his company Pioneer Gas with interests in Botswana, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

But he shot to limelight after he threw a birthday party which cost an estimated US$17 000 in Harare attended by socialites, celebrities, weirdos and groupies among others.

He became a man of the people and at every other party guests were treated to champagne which Ginimbi used to describe as “shampopo showers” for he made it rain.

His Instagram account was awash with lots of entertainment with women scrambling to flaunt their stuff to win instant cash prices.

And one most memorable moment was when Ginimbi’s Instagram account was closed for nudity as women across the globe would participate in twerking contest, however stakes were high such that some women started stripping live. The show was a hit among his followers.

Ginimbi would bring people together friends or foes they all sipped from the same bottle while slay queens, modern day sex workers also got a fair share at the parties. Ginimbi would continuously make headlines good or bad. I remember my last interview with him was a month before he died, at “Ginimbi lifestyle, amusement park”, where he shared his life story.

It seemed that he knew he was dying soon as he reminded me, “my brother enjoy life, you will soon miss it. I might not be here for long but you will remember that I was here, my Gucci robes, cars and of course the partying”.

Ginimbi and friends

While Harare became “too small” for him, Ginimbi took his All White parties outside the country to Botswana and South Africa. A whole bunch of his friends would be flown in First Class including personal assistants and DJs for the drinking binges.

On a serious note, way back in 2014 he was arrested and tried on allegations of defrauding a Kadoma-based miner of over R1,5 million. Such is the life and times of Ginimbi, a man who made himself a household name in social circles more than in business.

He has inspired a generation of yuppies who brag about their riches although they run dodgy businesses. Nowadays there are several socialites who want to follow in Ginimbi’s footsteps with little or no success. The reason being that Ginimbi lived a flamboyant lifestyle but he never made enemies.

His was to enjoy life and entertain people. I salute you for that Ginimbi! Oddly enough there are wannabes on social media who live fake lifestyles and cannot match to Ginimbi’s standards. There is an old adage that says: “If money talks let it speak” but all we see are people who claim to have loads money and yet they don’t.

Every Jack, Dick, Tom and Harry wants to appear filthy rich and yet there have nothing to show for it. Worse on social media especially Instagram, well it seems everyone is rich, motivator, entrepreneur, car dealer, gold mine owner and lives in mansion.

But a survey by this paper revealed that it was just fake lives, wanting likes on social media, in fact it is now business. Instead, what is common now in social media circles is hate. People are hating each other instead of glorifying each other as what Ginimbii used to.

A quick look at some of the socialities we have now, some wannabes others struggling to make it , all you see is hate and self-praise while others have gone political.

Well, I won’t mention names, rather I will be trending this coming week being bashed for hating them, yet I don’t hate but I am just remembering you my guy!

It is because of these that one asks where the future of humanity is heading when people use social media to tear down others.

Half the time we see these so-called felebrities, socialites and celebrities on their Instagram pages no one feels good because they paint a glossy picture of how good their looks are, how expensive their cars or clothes are.

Instead of uplifting the lives of social media users they bring hell and make others feel less fortunate and insecure. It is hard to find someone to replace Ginimbi for he went with all that he had.

Ayanda Borotho talks about her journey to self-love

Television actress and author Ayanda Borotho has shared her pearls of wisdom and her learned valuable experiences through her journey to self-love. In her personal memoir titled Unbecoming To Become, she delves deep into her journey back to self. The actress took to her Instagram to share her insights.

“I’m learning one of the biggest and heaviest loads we carry is the burden of ‘owing’ people and the ‘expectation’ to pay back for what was or is being done towards us or for us. And vice versa. We have expectations of people too because of what we have done for them.

Ayanda Borotho

We live in such a transactional world that it’s rare to come across people who are simply genuine (though they do exist). We owe parents for not abandoning us. We owe friends for being in our corner.”

“We owe husbands for not cheating on us and being good fathers. We owe employers for giving us and keeping us in the job. We owe those who have opened doors of opportunity for us. What a huge debt it must be to carry.”

Ayanda explained that the narrative should be that the people who are doing all these things are playing their chosen roles.

When the real narrative should be parents have an obligation to raise us to the best of their ability. They chose to have us. True friends are always in your corner. Loyalty is not for sale. Husbands are meant to love us and our children. Being a good husband or father is not doing your wife and children a favour. It is his responsibility (and blessing). Ayanda said no-one owes anyone a favour, and life would be easier if we didn’t live indebted to anyone.

Ayanda Borotho

“When I’m working, I contribute meaningfully to the team. I get paid for the service I render, which the organisation needs. Ho-one is doing anyone any favours. Those who open doors are in positions of service by virtue of having the authority or anointing to hold the key. Authority is a blessing and a gift.

“It should serve and not take. The world would be so much better if we learned to rid ourselves of expectations for doing what we should be doing in the first place, and it would even be better if we didn’t live feeling indebted to the world. I am grateful not to be indebted. I serve with gratitude and not expectation. There’s a difference.

Govt: More benefits for NSSA pensioners

Govt: More benefits for NSSA pensioners. On the monetary front, NSSA beneficiaries will receive a bonus as a 13th cheque together with their November payouts. The National Social Security Authority (NSSA) has announced various additional benefits expected to add a cheer to its pensioners and beneficiaries during the festive season.

The compulsory State pension fund increased monthly benefits payouts last month by 25 percent, pegging the minimum pension under the Pension and Other Benefits Scheme (POBS) at the auction rate equivalent of US$45 and US$60 for the Accident Prevention and Workers Compensation Scheme (APWCS).

In addition, beneficiaries who bank with POSB and NBS will with effect from November 13 enjoy zero transaction charges as NSSA moves towards improving the welfare of its pensioners. NBS and POSB, who are presently offering a revolving facility for income generating projects, account for over 70 percent of NSSA members.

NSSA deputy director marketing and communication, Mr Tendai Mutseyekwa, said the authority had also struck a deal with a pharmacy chain, Dis-Pharm, which will offer NSSA pensioners a 10 percent discount.

“NSSA pensioners will enjoy a 10 percent discount across all dispensary and over-the-counter medicinal drugs approved by the MCAZ (Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe) to pre-approved beneficiaries of POBS and APWCS,” said Mr Mutseyekwa. He said the relationship with Dis-Pharm was borne out of NSSA’s partnership with the retail Spar Group that is offering NSSA pensioners a 10 percent discount at selected outlets.

Dis-Pharm is a member of the Spar Group. As part of the partnership, Dis-Pharm will stock up and include in its inventory, all necessary products required by NSSA pre-approved beneficiaries under its two schemes. Dis-Pharm will leverage on Spar’s international contacts to procure drugs and related products at the most competitive prices to maximise on the discount benefit to NSSA beneficiaries.

Dis-Pharm group financial controller, Mr Mitch Tugwete said they were proud to partner NSSA in providing affordable healthcare solutions to pension beneficiaries at discounted Zimbabwe dollar rates.

“Dis-Pharm is a retail pharmaceutical chain that offers affordable health, well-being and beauty solutions for the whole family,” he said. “The partnership with NSSA will afford pre-approved beneficiaries under NSSA’s schemes to enjoy affordable, tier discounted over-the-counter dispensary and general health solutions.”

The relationship will see NSSA assist the pharmacy chain in its expansion drive by availing space at NSSA properties at mutually agreed commercial rates to provide nationwide access to beneficiaries.

Mr Mutseyekwa said at the start of the year, NSSA promised to prioritise the welfare of pensioners by coming up with innovative ways of augmenting their income.

“While we are doing all we can to improve the monthly pensions with the objective of paying a minimum equivalent to US$60 at the auction rate by January, we know that social security pay-outs will never be adequate, not just in Zimbabwe, but globally,” he said.

“That is why we are working flat out in seeking partnerships that are beneficial to pensioners, our partners and NSSA as a business.”

Home Affairs Minister: Sanctions impact civil registration process

Home Affairs Minister: Sanctions impact civil registration process. Speaking over the weekend at the official opening of the Guruve Civil Registry Office, Minister Kazembe said passport consumables were imported and the specific materials were approved by the United Nations through the International Civil Aviation Organisation to be accepted internationally.

Illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe, coupled with the Covid-19 pandemic, have crippled the civil registration process and created a backlog of over 400 000 passports, Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe has said.

“Companies that provide these consumables are approved by international organisations,” he said. “We were failing to procure consumables from these companies. Recently our money was sent back because of the sanctions while we wanted to import these consumables.

“It is true that sanctions are targeted, they are targeted at everyone in Zimbabwe. When the Government fails to provide national documents because of the sanctions it means the ordinary person is deprived of their basic right.

“During the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, the whole world was under lockdown and there was no movement, but children continued to be born while others reached 16 years and were in need of identity documents. The number continued to grow.”

Minister Kazembe said the backlog now stands at 100 000 and it could be cleared by December after the Government engaged a partner which will see the mass production of passports, identification cards and birth certificates.

He thanked President Mnangagwa for his re-engagement drive and a plethora of measures to ease the lives of Zimbabweans. Minister Kazembe said the Guruve Civil Registry Office, whose construction was stalled for 20 years, brings services closer to the people in a cost effective and conducive environment in line with the devolution agenda.

The Guruve office is earmarked for passport issuance as the ministry continues to decentralise passport issuance, which started in Chitungwiza. In the meantime, the office will offer birth and death registration, national identity cards and registration of livestock brands.

Minister Kazembe appealed to civil registry officials to serve people with respect and dignity. “People go through a lot to get a birth certificate and some pay money,” he said. “If you hear about this here, report such cases. Shun corruption.

“Government is committed to improving service delivery which will result in cost saving on transport and reduction on the distances people travel to access services. Plans are afoot to establish more sub-registry offices to further reduce distances.” Acting Registrar-General Mr Henry Machiri said registration of birth for certificates was mandatory.

“Parents should register their children in time and take advantage of the free birth registration facility for children up to six years,” he said. “Register your children on time. Life is unpredictable. Decentralisation and computerisation are some of the strategies employed to improve civil registration.

“Plans are underway to decentralise issuance of passports to districts which was traditionally done by provincial offices. “Most of the buildings currently in use by the Department are rented. This premises used to be a bakery. The President is having sleepless nights to ensure that the department has adequate offices.”

Amaroto stars Involved in a Car Accident

Amapiano stars Reece Madlisa and Zuma are grateful to be alive following their car accident which occurred over the weekend. The fans of Amaroto have been flooding their social media with comforting messages, and show gratitude that they are home safe.

Some fans expressed concern saying it’s time our favourite Amapiano stars get their very own drivers, assuming that they drive themselves to events either drunk or very tired. Of course the details are not known, but this concern comes from a good place as fans do not wish to see yet another Amapino star losing their lives due to car accidents.

This after the heartbreaking death of Mpura and Killer Kau who lost their lives along with 4 other people namely Thando Thot, Khaya Hadebe TD and a firefighter.

According to police who told TshisaLIVE that an official investigation has been launched, they said, “The department of community safety, roads and transport has confirmed the accident that claimed six lives on the N4. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased and we hope they find strength during this difficult period. An investigation is underway to establish the cause of the accident. We are again appealing to people to adhere to the regulations as most accidents happen way past curfew time. Work with our law enforcement officials to ensure you arrive alive.”

The Amapiano fraternity was hit badly by this accident so much to the point where the Amapiano awards decided to chip in and assist the families of the deceased, “In paying tribute to the two heroes (Killer Kau and Mpura) that have contributed immensely within the entertainment industry and as part of our efforts to promote and preserve the rich legacy that they crafted, Amapiano Awards are in conversations with financial services companies to create a facility that will assist in ensuring that our artists receive funeral cover and disability benefits,” the statement read.

Just two months back, new kid on the block, Mfana KaGogo was also involved in a serious car crash. The 17-year-old said on his social media, “We are thankful that a person is still alive, as well as my team. Jehova you are great.”
Putting the blame on the deaths of Mpura and Killer Kau on JazziQ, Rea Gopane found himself getting slapped with yet another lawsuit when he said, JazziQ sacrificed them for the betterment of his career.

“The entire entertainment industry looked passed the fact that JazziQ sacrificed Killer Kau and Mpura…for the betterment of his career,” alleged Rea. He continued by saying “The day after they died, he went to Ghana…” said Rea then his co-host Blvck Steph, asked him “so you think the ritual was done there.”

Rea then continued and said, “I’m just saying, we are not reading between the lines…the sacrifice is right there and everybody missed it. JazziQ’s lawyers hit back at Rea and said his words “maliciously defames Tumelo Manyoni (his real name).

Violent mentally-ill man attacks women and schoolchildren. During a residents meeting held at Old Pumula hall, residents identified the man as Obert and added that he is a threat to society. Obert is not only in the habit of assaulting women and children but also moves around shouting vulgar words.

Residents of Bulawayo’s Old Pumula suburb have appealed to authorities to ensure that a man suffering from a mental illness is taken to a mental institution before he maims or kills people.

The man lives at the back of the Old Pumula Post Office and has threatened several people including a resident, Lucia Ncube. Said Ncube: I sweep around the business area and we place garbage in one place for easy collection by the garbage collectors.

Obert comes and burns everything up and one day I am telling you, he will burn down that post office, sometimes he even chases me wanting to beat me up. Another concerned resident Nhlanhla Moyo said sometimes the man seizes groceries from people coming out of shops. He said:

The attacks are not really an everyday thing because sometimes he acts a little bit normal but when it happens, he takes people’s groceries and threatens them. He even beats up school children who pass through.

Residents claimed that they once reported the matter at the local police station but they were told that there was a need for the presence of the man’s relative for him to be taken to Ingutsheni Central Hospital.

Obert’s relatives are believed to be in Nyamandlovu, where his home is situated.  At some point, a family member came intending to collect him but he refused, residents further alleged.

No Ginimbi commemorations, family reveals

No Ginimbi commemorations, family reveals. Ginimbi died today, exactly one year ago, when he had a head on-on collision along Borrowdale Road on his way to Domboshava before his car caught fire. Family to the late socialite Genius ‘Ginimbi’ Kadungure will not be holding any ceremony to commemorate his death this month.

Three other people died in the accident. His family said due to the sacredness of the month of November, it is formidable to hold any functions. The businessman died on the spot early Sunday morning of November 8, but was not burnt beyond recognition like other victims.

In an interview with Ginimbi’s elder sister Juliet, she said it’s unfortunate that no commemorations will be held to remember the popular socialite at least for this month.

“We don’t have anything tangible at the moment as we are still in the process of preparing his memorial. “Unfortunately we are in November as you know our tradition and culture that November we are not allowed to do functions. “It’s very unfortunate,” she said.

On the fateful day Ginimbi was driving a Rolls Royce with popular socialite Mitchel ‘Moana’ Amuli who also died on the spot after being burnt beyond recognition. November is regarded as the month of the goat, a sacred moon where neither marriages nor wedding ceremonies are held. For every believer in the Zimbabwean traditions and culture, November is a taboo month.

Beliefs are that it belongs to the ancestors, the spirits that guide and protect and those who go against it, they bring bad luck upon themselves.

Weddings, for instance, held in November are said to end in divorce as punishment for this abomination. Other ceremonies such as lobola negotiations, biras and tombostone unveiling are largely prohibited. Traditionalist Sekuru Banda said, the Ginimbi family are right to respect the month of November, they can wait.

“Every country has its own beliefs and it should be followed. “If you see a case of prophets who drowned, it’s because they did not respect some procedures.

“November is known as the sacred month, no ceremonies, mhepo dzinenge dzine matare adzinenge chiita. “If we go against the ancestors, things will be upside down, problems will befall upon us,” he said. Added Sekuru Banda:

“There is no rush for the Ginimbi family, let them wait, they should do things in a proper way, they are not in a hurry. “There is nothing that should be done in this month because the repercussions are unbearable.

“Once you mess up, there is no reverse and the after effects are difficult to mend. “If it’s a marriage, it won’t last, its sacred, chisi, no activity, spiritually you will have a bad luck,” he said.

Glasgow trip very expensive but no concrete results

Glasgow trip very expensive but no concrete results. According to Stephen Chan, Professor of World Politics at SOAS, University of London, Mnangagwa reduced his trip to the United Kingdom to optics and grandstanding on re-engagement with the West.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s visit to Glasgow, Scotland, for the COP26 Summit, was a missed opportunity for Zimbabwe to meaningfully engage world leaders on climate matters, an analyst has said.

Reports indicate that Zimbabwe’s neighbour and major trading partner, South Africa, South Africa secured an US$8.5 billion deal from the United Kingdom, United States and the European Union to curb high carbon emissions and develop new renewable energy projects.

Chan told The NewsHawks that while South Africa was scoring big in climate change initiatives, Mnangagwa was relishing photo opportunities with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and US President Joe Biden and returned home empty-handed. Said Chan:

Basically, in British terms, and in terms of contact with other high-level delegations to COP26, the Mnangagwa visit accomplished almost nothing. It seemed under-planned, without a clear strategy, and without any discernible lobbying or media expertise. It was a very expensive trip with no concrete results.

Chan said Mnangagwa’s visit had no significance for the country’s re-engagement drive which has gone off track in the past three years. He added:

Most of the British public had no idea Mnangagwa was visiting Britain. There were a huge number of important world leaders gathered briefly together in one place and many of them said important things about the environment — which is what the COP26 was all about.

In terms of re-engagement initiatives while in Britain, there was no impact whatsoever. While other world leaders made headlines, the Zimbabwean delegation hogged the limelight for booze and partying in Glasgow.

Images of ZANU PF supporters clad in party regalia and pushing trolleys full of expensive booze were a public relations disaster for Mnangagwa. Chan also dismissed Mnangagwa’s claims that he had made meaningful contact with Johnson. Said Chan:

There were no secret side meetings between Mnangagwa and Boris Johnson and, as far as I know, no side meetings involving senior personnel in the Zimbabwean delegation with senior personnel in the UK Foreign Office. My Foreign Office friends report no such activity or efforts to initiate any side meetings.

Chan asserted that despite Mnangagwa’s grandstanding, any re-engagement with the West would have to be premised on genuine political reforms.

Meanwhile, on his return home on Thursday, Mnangagwa bragged to ZANU PF supporters who had been bussed to welcome him at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, saying Johnson was excited to meet him.

Drama as man pleads with police to arrest him in order to escape wife at home. Guidonia Montecelio, who live in Italy outside Rome, “was no longer able to cope with the forced cohabitation with his wife,” Carabinieri police from nearby Tivoli said in a statement.

A 30-year-old Albanian citizen who had been under house arrest in Italy for several months showed up at a police barracks asking to be sent to prison because life with his wife at home was unbearable.

The Police said: Exasperated by the situation, he preferred to escape, spontaneously presenting himself to the Carabinieri to ask to serve his sentence behind bars.

The man had been under house arrest for drug crimes for several months and had a few years left to serve, Captain Francesco Giacomo Ferrante of the Tivoli Carabinieri told AFP. Said Ferrante:

He lived at home with his wife and family. It wasn’t going well anymore. He said, ‘Listen, my domestic life has become hell, I can’t do it anymore, I want to go to jail.’

The man, however, tasted “freedom” for a very short period of time as he was promptly arrested for violating his house arrest and judicial authorities ordered his transfer to prison.

Teachers demand bonuses in US$

Teachers demand bonuses in US$. Statement by the Zimbabwe Teachers Association (ZIMTA) demanding that the Government pay teachers their 13th cheque in United States dollars.

STATEMENT ON USD BONUSES FOR TEACHERS

1. Teachers are demanding that the employer must pay bonuses in united states dollars this month of November 2021. Because teachers are sinking deeper into incapacitation each and every day, this is the only way to avert crushing them deeper into poverty and dysfunction.

2. The ZIMTA-Ehlekweni Vocational Training Institute Declaration of 06 November 2021, resolved that the employer must pay the 2021 bonuses for educators in full this November to cushion educators against inflation induced income losses;

3. In the same declaration, the educators are demanding that the government put in place a facility that enables teachers to access the weekly USD$ 50 from their individual Nostro accounts. This has been necessitated by the failure of the majority to access their weekly forex allocations availed to them via local banks and Bureau de changes by RBZ. Ultimately, this move will enable educators to access part of their salaries in USD and eventually solve a longstanding grievance from the teachers.

4. Starting this November 2021, Teachers want invigilation of examinations to be paid for by ZIMSEC, as this is the only way to guarantee the quality of examinations while motivating the teachers and introducing equity in the treatment of all those who manage examinations. Evidence at hand has proved that ZIMSEC has the capacity to pay for invigilation of exams by Teachers.

5. Teachers have also demanded that the employer ought to pay for all their specific sector allowances with effect from December 2021.

6. Finally, and most importantly, the declaration stated that the salary for a Grade D level Teacher of USD$540 has to be honoured by November 2021 at the latest.

7. The ZIMTA-Ehlekweni Bulawayo, November 2021 Declaration further stipulates and warns the employer that failure to meet these demands from the educators, within the above specified time frames may lead to disruptions of activities within schools, compromising the quality and equal access to education for learners, disturbing examination invigilation and ultimately the failure of moderation and capture of CALA results.

8. In the 6 November ZIMTA – Ehlekweni Declaration Statement, the Teachers declared that unspecified actions emanating from teacher disgruntlement were likely to occur should their demands be ignored.

US$47 000 raised for Nelson Chamisa’s armour-plated car

US$47 000 raised for Nelson Chamisa’s armour-plated car. This comes after a vehicle that was carrying Chamisa’s aides was badly damaged in an unprovoked attack by ZANU PF supporters in Masvingo Province a few weeks ago.

A citizens’ initiative to raise US$120 000 to buy an armour-plated vehicle for MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has so far raised US$47 000 from 1 300 donations.

According to one T Basvi (Mudhara B), who is one of the organisers of the fundraising campaign, through the initiative, the diaspora community of Zimbabwe (and friends) intends to send a clear message of solidarity with Chamisa. He added:

Together as the diaspora community, we felt this is one way we can support the democracy agenda from afar. … Nelson Chamisa has received countless merciless attacks from the ruling party, aided by the government security sector.

On 11th October 2021, his motor vehicle convoy was ambushed and attacked by a marauding group of the ruling party’s youths, an attack that left his vehicles damaged and many of his aides seriously injured and hospitalized.

The convoy was on its way to engaging the rural communities to understand their issues in the aftermath of the pandemic’s 3rd wave. As we draw closer to 2023 we foresee a likelihood of increased attacks on him and other aides in the run-up to 2023.

As concerned global citizens, we have come up with this initiative to raise funds for the purchase of an amour plated vehicle as well as security apparel for his safety and security.

UFC professional fighter Themba Gorimbo raises over 1000US to help the family of boxer who died last week. Themba has raised over 1000US which he sent to the family. This money was raised through the sale of kits and other donations from the fellow sportsman.

Zimbabwean professional UFC fighter Themba Gorimbo has stepped up to help the family of Taurayi Zimunya the boxer who died last week after sustaining head injuries from his boxing match.

Zimunya was fighting Tinashe Majoni of the Charles Manyuchi Boxing Academy, in one of 10 matches making up the “Rise of Champions” bill hosted by Otto Boxing Club, at Body Active Gym in Borrowdale, Harare. This was the second time Zimunya was fighting the same opponent.

Taurai

Zimbabwe Boxing and Wrestling Control Board general secretary, Lawrence Zimbudzana, described his death as “unfortunate and isolated.” “We are with his family and club in our prayers. What’s more painful is that the potential of such a young talent has been nipped in he bud,” he said.

Thomas Gorimbo

He claimed all protocols, associated with the safe hosting of a tournament, had been fulfilled. Requirements by the Boxing and Wrestling Control Act demand that there be a ringside doctor, and an ambulance on standby, at every professional boxing event. This gesture by Gorimbo is a great step towards unity in sport and standing up for others when they themselves are not able to.
