ZINASU President set free over students anti-Mnangagwa demonstrations. Takudzwa Ngadziore was arrested on 24 March 2020 by Zimbabwe Republic Police officers and charged with criminal nuisance as defined in Section 46 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

Harare Magistrate Sheunesu Matova on Friday 12 November 2021 set free Takudzwa Ngadziore, the leader of Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU), who had been on trial for allegedly inciting some school children to protest against President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government.

During trial, prosecutors alleged that the 22-year-old Ngadziore did an act that is likely to create nuisance or obstruction by gathering some students from Allan Wilson High School on 7 March 2020 at Copacabana bus terminus in Harare, where he incited them without the consent of their parents or guardians to participate in a demonstration, where the school children sang some protest songs against President Mnangagwa’s government over its mismanagement of the economy.

But on Friday 12 November 2021, Magistrate Matova set Ngadziore free by removing him from remand after noting that the case had taken 20 months with the ZINASU leader being on remand and without trial being concluded.

Magistrate also noted that continuing to place Ngadziore on trial would be tantamount to interfering with his right to a trial within a reasonable time.

The removal from remand of Ngadziore came after his lawyer Webster Jiti of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights protested that the State’s house was in disarray as prosecutors had only led one witness in a period of one year and eight months and that Ngadziore had appeared in court answering to this charge of criminal nuisance for more than 22 times.

Magistrate Matova advised prosecutors to proceed by summoning Ngadziore to appear in court if they intend to prosecute him on the same charges.

Ishmael Ndlovu’s tribute to media guru Peter Banga. Ishmael Ndlovu has penned a tribute to the late veteran broadcaster, media mentor and disability advocate, Peter Banga, who died at his home on Friday.

Titled “Life is short,” the tribute gives an insight into Banga’s professional life. Reads part of the tribute: When news filtered in on Friday morning that veteran broadcaster, media mentor and disability advocate Peter Banga was no more, not only was I shocked by the suddenness of the news, but I was also hit by the thought of how brief our existence is.

I was also reminded of the words of the late English playwright William Shakespeare who said in Macbeth: Out, out brief candle! Life’s but a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and is heard no more…”

Indeed the Grim Reaper has taken away this man when we least expected. I first met Peter Banga at the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation’s Pockets Hill studios in Highlands, Harare in November 1992 as a young aspiring broadcaster. He was one of the senior sub-editors on the radio news in English desk. This was at a time when broadcasting was a big deal, mind you there was only one broadcaster, ZBC…

Peter excelled at his work and he and other seniors taught us the ropes. His copy was always precise and to the point. We worked like one big happy family back then. There were also some interesting characters on the desk and everyone called each other “Uncle” regardless of whether one was younger or older than those he was addressing as such…

Farewell Peter Banga. May Jehovah, the God of all comfort, give your wife, Menia and the children strength during this difficult time. (2 Corinthians 1: 3,4). Banga left ZBC in the 2000s and joined the Harare Polytechnic as a lecturer in Mass Communication and Journalism and rose through the ranks to become the Head of Department.

Recently he had started lecturing radio and television, political communication, media law and ethics, media communication policies and marketing at the University of Zimbabwe.

A German Airline set to market Victoria Falls. Eurowings Discover of Germany which has made a commitment to start flying into Victoria Falls starting on March 30 next year says it intends to market Victoria Falls.

The holiday resort will be the 5th destination in Africa for the airline that is wholly owned by Lufthansa Group. Currently, Eurowings flies directly into Mombasa in Kenya, Windhoek in Namibia, Zanzibar in Tanzania, and Mauritius.

A meeting was held with tourism stakeholders in Victoria Falls on Thursday to cement partnership with the local industry in marketing destination Victoria Falls.

Lufthansa Group general manager Mr Andre Schults said there is a strong focus on Africa as a destination. He said:

Our next project is Victoria Falls and 30 March will be a big day. We are happy that Eurowings Discovery will start flying via Windhoek and we are very optimistic and positive regarding the booking outlook hence we are really looking forward to the 30th of March.

Eurowings Discovery is a new leisure long-haul airline of Lufthansa Group and we are really happy to support with this airline the restart of Zimbabwe and Victoria Falls tourism industry actively with this flight. Our commitment is that we will do what we can to market Victoria Falls but with local support. We need to increase the confidence of travelers.

He said the airline was impressed by the potential that this destination has and the number of German tourists coming into the destination. Germany is one of Victoria Falls’ significant source markets.

Mr Schultz said the route will benefit not only Victoria Falls but the whole Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation region.

Plans are underway to roll out a massive marketing and education campaign ahead of the coming of the airline both in Windhoek and Victoria Falls, for the industry to reach out to all source markets around the globe.

ZMMT announces plans to revive news agency New Ziana. ZMMT is mandated to oversee operations of media organisations where the Government has a significant shareholding. The newly appointed ZMMT executive secretary Mr Ray Mungoshi, who is also a former Editor of The Herald, said the revival of New Ziana was critical in information circulation and telling the Zimbabwean story abroad.

Zimbabwe Mass Media Trust (ZMMT) is reviving the national news agency New Ziana and community newspapers in its stable. H told The Herald in an interview:

The ZMMT became moribund towards the end of the old order but the New Dispensation has come in and rolled out a gamut of reforms aimed at opening up the media industry and making it responsive to modern exigencies.

We are reviving Ziana, Kingstons and our eight community newspapers to reprise our role as leaders in disseminating information in Zimbabwe. We want our folks in rural areas who are either not computer savvy or have no access to the internet because of various constraints, to participate in national discourse. They too, must be heard.

The ZMMT was established in 1981 after the Government bought the majority of shares in Zimbabwe Newspapers, a company that owned all major newspapers in the country.

The trust’s role was to promote the interests of ordinary Zimbabweans in the national media, which included the Zimbabwe Inter-Africa News Agency (ZIANA), now rechristened New Ziana.

Mr Mungoshi said ZMMT’s mandate is therefore to ensure that the media milieu is restored to the status quo before the switch from ZIANA to New Ziana.

Civil servants unions hail Govt over USD bonuses. Government announced on Thursday that civil servants will this year be paid their bonuses in foreign currency up to a maximum of US$700, while pensioners will receive US$100 plus an extra US$80 for spouses.

Civil servants’ unions have thanked President Mnangagwa’s Government for approving payment of this year’s bonuses in foreign currency, describing the development as a pleasant surprise that would go a long way in addressing the interim needs of State employees.

Those portions of bonus entitlements higher than US$700 will be paid in local currency. Permanent Secretary for Finance and Economic Development Mr George Guvamatanga said the President had approved a once-off cushion following challenges attributable to exchange rate fluctuations this year.

Government is expected to pay out over US$90 million, a large figure but one that Treasury can handle with Zimbabwe earning more foreign currency than it spends and with some Government taxes payable in foreign currency.

Secretary-general of the Zimbabwe Confederation of Public Sector Trade Unions, formerly Apex Council, Mr David Dzatsunga welcomed the initiative.

“We are quite satisfied with the development. It comes as a surprise. It sticks to our long-term wishes. It is the best thing that has happened,” he said. Zimbabwe Urban and Rural Council Nurses Workers Union president Mr Simbarashe Tafirenyika also hailed the move.

“We applaud the decision and we are very grateful for the move by the Government. This will go a long way in addressing the needs of employees. In fact, other employers must follow suit, especially local authorities considering the prices in shops,” he said.

Zimbabwe Rural Teachers Union president Mr Martin Chaburumunda said it was a dream come true. “We wanted to be paid in forex for a long time,” he said. Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) secretary-general Mr Raymond Majongwe said it was a good development.

“It is a welcome development that must be understood in a particular way. This must become the way things must happen. “Besides this particular good gesture, the Government should engage us on how and when the money will be paid as this can be spoiled by service providers who may start increasing prices,” he said.

By last month, Zimbabwe had recorded US$7,2 billion in foreign currency receipts, resulting in a positive current account of about US$1,7 billion, that is more foreign currency had come in than had been spent.

At the same time the Government has its own foreign currency income since duties and taxes on some imports and on local sales in foreign currency have to be paid in foreign currency. This has seen Treasury affording to pay bonuses in foreign currency. Mr Guvamatanga, said those civil servants with pay scales requiring more than US$700 would get the balance in local currency.

Zimbabwe elected World Kimberley Process vice chair. The election was done in Moscow, Russia, yesterday at the plenary meeting which ran from November 8 to 12. In an interview from Moscow last night, Mines and Mining Development Minister Winston Chitando confirmed the development.

Zimbabwe was last night elected vice chairperson of the World Kimberley Process, which ensures that all global diamond mining and sales are done legally and following laid-down standards, with the vote being a further endorsement of the Second Republic’s global appeal as a properly governed country.

“Zimbabwe has this evening (last night) been elected as vice chairperson of the World Kimberley Process for 2022. It is a massive recognition for the country,” he said. Zimbabwe is scheduled to take over the chair in 2023, the year that it expects the mining sector to become a US$12 billion industry. Russia is the current chair.

The Kimberley Process is a body for certifying diamonds sold around the world and provides the practical process to remove conflict diamonds from the global supply chain.

Today, participants actively manage worldwide trade and have managed to end 99,8 percent of the global production of conflict diamonds, that is diamonds mined illegally and without proper regulation and used to fund illegal and terrorist activities.

The plenary meeting was held in a hybrid format, with some participants following proceedings virtually due to Covid-19 while others attended physically.

The agenda focused on finalisation of working plans of the Kimberley Process working bodies for 2021 as well as general issues reflected in the priority initiatives promoted by the Russian chair that were of high importance for the sustainable development of the global diamond industry.

A statement from the Kimberley Process said the agenda involved the digitalisation of Kimberley Process certificates accompanying every export and import operation of rough diamonds aimed at modernisation to meet the current technological realities, particularly under the challenging circumstances of Covid-19 pandemic restrictions and limitations.

Kimberley Process intended to set the basis for work in this direction and was also open to cooperation in this sphere with external organisations to learn from their experience.

Added the statement: “Secondly, the Russian chairmanship believes that it is essential for the future development of Kimberley Process that participants support the draft declaration on the so-called “Principles of Responsible Diamond Sourcing” as the best practice for the industry.

“Most of the participants and observers positively responded on the declaration co-drafted by the two largest diamond mining countries — Russia, chair of the KP, and Botswana, vice chair of the Kimberley Process.” The other key topic was the situation in the Central African Republic.

The Kimberley Process is expected to send an expert mission to that country to evaluate the effectiveness of 2019 post-verification mechanism and compliance of individual regions with the minimum requirements of the certification scheme. The meeting also considered the applications of new countries to join the certification scheme.

Govt: Demined land to benefit more than 23 000 households. The community will use the land for farming and pastures. Anti-personnel landmines numbering up to 50 254 were recovered and destroyed from the area. Handing over the land, Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Mark Gray Marongwe, said the development was a step in the right direction.

Over 23 000 households in Mukumbura, Mashonaland Central province, are set to benefit from land measuring 6,95 square kilometres with a frontage of 73km that was demined by Government in conjunction with a non-governmental organisation.

“The area we are handing over will see the local population start utilising the land for economic benefits,” she said. “This is great work being done as we forge ahead with our quest to achieve the objective of a mine free Zimbabwe by 2025.

“I wish to convey appreciation to donor organisations for coming to the aid of Zimbabwe’s demining programme that for a long time suffered lack of funding following the imposition of illegal economic sanctions on the country. It is also important to note this clearance exercise has been conducted by Zimbabweans for Zimbabweans as almost all of HALO’s recruitment with the exception of a few senior staff and technical experts has come from the local areas.”

Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri said while most minefields were clearly marked and fenced, over time the markings and fences were vandalised, leaving locals totally exposed to the danger of being hit by landmines.

Local authorities were called on to immediately ensure the productive utilisation of the cleared land. Receiving the land, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland Central, Monica Mavhunga, said the eradication of landmines was a major relief for communities in her province.

“The clearance of the land we have received today brings much relief, especially to children,” she said. “Children had to dice with death on a daily basis scaling through minefields.” Local Chief, Mr Short Kanzou, hailed Government for taking aboard partners to end the landmine menace.

“One problem gone after deaths and injuries have been inflicted,” he said. “Some are dead while some could not be here today because they cannot walk to witness this milestone in the freedom of Zimbabwe.

“We are thankful for this achievement.” Mr Wonder Mako, a victim who lost his right leg 32 years ago while working in his parents’ fields, said life had been a living hell since the fateful day.

“Life has never been the same since the day I lost this leg,” he said. “I cannot do what others are doing except spending years sitting.” Zimbabwe Mine Action Centre director, Colonel Mkhululi Ncube, said Zimbabwe was working flat out to achieve a landmine free Zimbabwe by 2025.

He said in the quest to remove the landmines, the Zimbabwe National Army National Mine Clearance Squadron was being complemented by four non-governmental organisations namely HALO Trust, Mine Action Group, APOPO and Norwegian Peoples Aid.

Col Ncube said at least 2 000 people had been injured by the landmines, while 800 000 peoples’ livelihoods have been affected throughout the country. HALO Trust programmes manager Mr Samuel Fricker said his organisation will continue to complement Government in landmine clearance efforts.

VP Chiwenga calls for more support to farmers. Zimbabwe’s agro-industrial businesses should source at least 40 percent of their annual requirements through contract farming, joint ventures and corporate farming, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga said yesterday.

Addressing delegates at the just ended Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) congress in Harare , the Vice President was pleased that the private sector was collaborating well in pressing ahead with the creation of value chains but urged industrialists to keep moving forward and occupy more critical spaces needed to push the economy forward.

The CZI, which represents a large proportion of the formal industrial sector, held its annual congress from Wednesday to yesterday, under the theme, Upper middle-income industry for an upper middle-income economy — A time for industrial transformation

VP Chiwenga urged the industry players to stretch their assistance to farmers in order to develop downstream value chains thus benefiting primary producers of the economy.

“It is pleasing to note that the private sector is collaborating well in developing and implementing various value chains, including pharmaceuticals, leather and dairy among others for sustainable socio economic transformation of the economy.

“The country is geared towards a private sector led economic growth, that should propel the country towards the vision of becoming a prosperous and empowered upper middle income society by 2030,” said VP Chiwenga.

He called on the industry not to develop a wait and see attitude with the government but to take charge and occupy some of the critical spaces needed to propel the country’s economy. “There is no longer us and them. Let us bring the issues affecting us on the table and put our minds together. We need to bring synergies in the industry and go beyond our borders.

“We need to know what is needed to retool our industry. Human resources technology tools alone cannot work without human resources. We call all stakeholders in Zimbabwe to reach our developmental agenda.

The Second Republic sees the private sector as the engine of growth with the Government providing the environment and ensuring the required infrastructure is put in place.

“We therefore need to have synergies with institutions of higher learning and invest in research and development,” said VP Chiwenga. The agriculture sector, which is one of the significant producers of food raw materials, was on the rebound this year increasing its productivity capacity by 34 percent mainly hinged by maize production.

Woman broken after discovering that hubby of 6 years fathered her best friend’s 3-year-old baby. Posting on Tete Fadzie’s Twitter account, the woman revealed that when she got married to her husband they discussed the issue of starting a family together. She said her husband wanted kids right away but she refused on the basis that she was to focus on her career first.

An anonymous woman has taken to social media to seek advice after she discovered that her husband of 6 years fathered her best friend’s 3-year-old baby. She told him that they could start having children when she got into her 30’s. However, 4 years ago her best friend got pregnant and she moved in with them since she was going through a ‘ difficult phase’ and had nowhere to go.

For the past 3 years, the best friend has been staying with her in her marital home. Recently, her best friend fell pregnant again and she questioned who the father was but she refused to tell her.

She then decided to take a leave of absence from work and during that period she noticed that there was uncanny resemblance between her best friend’s baby and her husband. Out of curiosity, she decided to conduct a DNA test and the results confirmed that her husband is her best friend’s baby daddy.

She confronted both of them and they didn’t deny it, her husband actually told her that they both got what they wanted. Apparently, her husband had already paid lobola for her best friend and her husband’s relatives were aware that her husband was involved with her.

The woman feels dejected and betrayed by everyone and is already contemplating taking her own life.

She has been living with us since. For three years now. And her child is 3 years now. my friend got pregnant again. I asked her who the father was she didn’t tell me I then requested a leave of absense.

I noticed that her 3 year old son looks like my husband. I took DNA tests and they showed that indeed my best friend’s son is my hubby’s. I confronted both of them with the DNA results. And my husband didn’t even refuse the issue. He simply said. We all got what we wanted. You got your career I got my kids. When I told his relatives about it. It seemed they all knew. Horror as prophet nearly killed by lions, as he attempted to prove God’s power. A Prophet of a local church who was filled with the Holy Spirit recently ‘challenged’ a lion to do battle in the Hwange National Park.

Prophet Alec who is based in Harare was with fellow church members in the Hwange National Park where they were watching animals. It is believed the prophet went into a trance and started to speak in tongues. Ahead of them was a lion pride busy eating their impala.

Alec must have thought he was the biblical Samson as the prophet opened the car door and went charging towards the lions. Upon seeing the man running towards them, the lions could not believe that manna was coming straight from heaven and instead ran towards the prophet.

Alec must have then come to his senses as he quickly realised this was not going to end well and made an immediate turn and ran back to safety. But before he could safely reach the confines of the car, one lion had snapped its paws on his buttock. Also thanks to the game ranger who was near who fired some shots with his gun to scare the lion away.

So severe was the lion paw injury that Alec had to be rushed to the hospital for emergency for the removal of one buttock. The man was fearing he would lose all his buttocks but the doctor’s assured him he would still have his left buttock intact.

“I do not know what came over me’, Alec confessed, ‘I thought the Lord wanted to use me to show his power over animals. Is it not we were given dominion over all creatures of the earth’, Alec added. Alec was eventually stitched up and discharged after two weeks in hospital

Another Mukuru Forex Outlet, hit by robbers and get away with US$18000. The incident occurred at Katanga Business Centre at around 7.25am. National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident and said investigations were still in progress.

Six armed robbers attacked a grocery shop owner and a Mukuru employee before they got away with US$18 537 and R37 500 in Norton on Monday morning.

“Police in Norton are investigating a robbery case which occurred at a grocery and Mukuru Money Transfer shop at Katanga Business Centre on Monday at around 0725 hours. “Six armed robbers attacked a 48-year-old shop owner and an attendant aged 31 before stealing US$18 537 and R37 500 cash,” he said.

Police are also investigating a robbery case which occurred at Mahoko Village in Zhombe on Sunday at about 7.30 pm where a business couple was attacked by three robbers who were armed with three pistols.

“The suspects fired two shots into the air before they struck the husband once on the head with a wheel spanner and stole cash amounting to US$5 100 cash, a Honda Fit vehicle and two Itel cellphones.

“The vehicle was later recovered near Sidaken Secondary School,” Asst Comm Nyathi said. Cases of armed robbery have been on the increase countrywide with criminals targeting business people and individuals keeping large amounts of cash. Some of the suspects have been arrested while others are still at large.

The community of Katlehong is demanding answers following the killing of a Tvet college student.

The student was allegedly stabbed outside her campus. Witnesses claim to have caught the perpetrator and handed him over to the Ekurhuleni police. Until now, no arrests have been made.

Another key State witness exonerates ex-minister Prisca Mupfumira. Mupfumira is being jointly charged with Barnabas Matongera for criminal abuse of. Memory Mukondomi, former finance and administration director in the ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare initially nailed Mupfumira stating that she had pressed for a quick deal between NSSA and Drawcard Investments.

A STATE witness in case former minister Prisca Mupfumira is accused of abusing office has made a u-turn on her testimony regarding her conduct in the process that led to the US$3,5 million deal between NSSA and Drawcard Enterprises.

She said Mupfumire had pressed NSSA to sign the deal within 48 hours. But during cross-examination with Mupfumira’s lawyer Admire Rubaya on Wednesday, Mukondoni shifted blame to the then chairman, Robin Vela saying he was the one who gave NSSA a 48-hour deadline.

“No there was no such communication. She would say let’s expeditiously enter into the agreement (but) it was not her duty to see into that and she was not the accounting officer at that time,” she said.

She said the NSSA board was seized with the mandate to see that the Gweru off-take low-income housing project agreement signed between NSSA and Drawcard Investments was above board.

Mukondomi also said it was not the duty of Mupfumira to see that projects got approval and went through tender processes as she was not the ministry’s accounting officer. She also distanced Mupfumira from playing a role in the payment of US$3,5 million towards the off-take project.

“Everything was the preserve of the accounting officer,” she said. NSSA head of investments and projects Kurauone Chihota has also exonerated Mupfumira saying she was never involved in the process.The trial continues Monday.

Tsenengamu: Zanu PF used us for t-shirts and caps. Tsenengamu was speaking during a press conference in Harare Friday, where he launched the party’s manifesto which focuses more on youth empowerment.

Front for Economic Emancipation in Zimbabwe (FEEZ) national coordinator Godfrey Tsenengamu has said Zanu PF leaders used them for t-shirts, caps, bandanas, and a promise to lead which never came.

“Some of us did not get this full opportunity to lead without interference. We were used and abused by our elders in our political parties to further and protect their interests and agendas and we were promised that we will lead tomorrow, so I want to tell you that your time as young people is now,” Tsenengamu said.

“We were given promises which were never fulfilled, all we got were t-shirts, bandanas, caps, and a promise to a future that never came, so I am challenging you today that you must be firm,” Tsenengamu said.

He added: “You are going to see Zanu PF cars flooding your ghettos and your rural areas when they could not even afford to give you a single mask but they will make sure that they bring 5 million t-shirts, caps, zambias, scarves and bandanas so that each and everyone of you gets a t-shirts and so you can go and vote for them, this is how sad our situation is.”

“Why should we be told that we must continue waiting for tomorrow, which tomorrow are they referring to because when some of us were in school we were told that you are leaders of tomorrow, now I am almost 40 and the same guys who told us that we are tomorrow’s leaders are still telling me that you will lead tomorrow.”

Tsenengamu was fired from Zanu PF last year after he took part in accusing senior party officials like Obert Mpofu of running corruption cartels.

Some believe he will take some Villa players with him. The Zimbabwean international, who is currently with the Warriors for World Cup 2022 qualifier matches, is one of the players that have been suggested for a loan move.

Nakamba arrived at Villa Park in the summer of 2019 from Belgian club Club Brugge.

The Zimbabwean gradually established himself in coach Dean Smith’s plans and made himself a big fans’ favourite, particularly before football was suspended following the outbreak of the coronavirus.

He has struggled to replicate his form after the COVID-19-induced break, a development that coincided with the rise of Douglas Luiz who also plays in the middle of the park. Nakamba has this season featured in very few games as the coach chose Luiz ahead of him.

Jonathan Moyo warns ED against trusting his lieutenants. Professor Jonathan Moyo suggested that the people surrounding the president had evil thoughts about him, the least being to dislodge him from power. Moyo said not everyone in the ruling ZANU PF was fighting in Mnangagwa’s corner.

Exiled former Information Minister, Professor Jonathan Moyo has warned president Emmerson Mnangagwa against trusting his lieutenants saying that will be a grave mistake. Posting on Twitter this Saturday, Moyo said:

Dear (president Emmerson Mnangagwa) @edmnangagwa, Do you trust those around you? Think again. Not all who sing the loudest in church will go to heaven or are without sin. Akubaira zani [the one who has warned you], or is it “Zanu”, haasi wako [is not yours]. Remember what you did to Gushungo? For you, pray that worse is not on the way. Ini ziiii hangu! [Let me keep my peace].

Moyo’s remarks come amid increasing reports about increasing tensions between Mnangagwa and his deputy, Constantino Chiwenga who is allegedly leading a faction that is pushing for Mnangagwa’s ouster.

He also speaks amid reports that remnants of the vanquished G40 faction are preparing for the return of exiled former local government minister, Saviour Kasukuwere to lead ZANU PF.

Mnangagwa himself previously admitted that he was “hunting with borrowed dogs” referring to individuals in the ruling party who supported other factions opposed to him.

This is happening at the backdrop of a lawsuit by ZANU PF member, Sybeth Musengezi, who is challenging Mnangagwa’s rise to the presidency in 2017 following the ouster of the late former president Robert Mugabe.

Meanwhile, Chiwenga recently rubbished reports that there is bad blood between himself and his boss and even endorsed Mnangagwa as the sole 2023 presidential candidate for the governing party.

Report: Beitbridge police and army open fire at Makakavhule villagers. Beitbridge police and some army officers Friday allegedly opened fire at Makakavhule villagers after two of their colleagues were manhandled following an argument about an alleged robbery of R15 000 involving security agents.

Police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said investigations were underway and he would provide more details later. He told NewsDay: I am yet to get full details, but investigations are underway.

A villager, only identified as Thembani, said he was at a funeral when a relative claimed to have been robbed by a policeman and a soldier accompanied by two civilians called. He said:

I found the soldier and policeman firing guns in the air and I called Beitbridge police, who directed me to another senior policeman (Assistant Commissioner Cosmos Masepa), who said he was deploying another team.

Beitbridge police district officer-in-charge Chief Superintendent Tichaona Nyongo confirmed receiving a call from Thembani but said he directed him to Masepa. He said:

I heard the report and I referred Thembani to Assistant Commissioner Masepa. Cases of the brutality of members of the security forces, including police and soldiers, have been reported before.

105 housing units constructed for Cyclone Idai victims. The Cyclone destroyed homes and lives of people and livestock mostly in Manicaland and the Southern parts of the country. The government in conjunction with other stakeholders have been constructing houses to shelter the affected survivors.

The Permanent Secretary of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana, has updated the nation on progress made in rehabilitating families affected by Cyclone Idai in 2019.

Pindula News presents Mangwana’s update on the progress made. CHIMANIMANI Chimanimani Disaster Recovery Housing Project (Runyararo) is in progress with the objective to provide shelter for families affected by Cyclone Idai.

It is targeting 224 housing units. To date 105 units have been constructed, 20 are at various stages of completion. Survivors have for the past two years been living in temporary shelters at camps where they were overcrowded.

Teachers to go on strike on Monday as ZIMSEC exams start. The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) has notified the government of its members’ intention to completely withdraw services from Monday the 15th of November, 2021.

ARTUZ says the industrial action is meant to push the government to review teachers’ salaries. The union says teachers are currently earning “insulting” salaries adding that the Ministry of Education knows that the salaries being paid to teachers were not enough but was not motivated to review the salaries.

Teachers are demanding the restoration of their pre-October 2018 salaries when they earned US$540 on average. They said their resolution to down tools stands until their grievances have been addressed.

US$57K raised out of US$120K for Nelson Chamisa’s new car. The organiser of the gofundme initiative, T Basvi, says the drive to buy Chamisa an armoured vehicle was triggered by “countless merciless attacks (on Chamisa) by the ruling party, aided by the government security sector.”

As of Saturday 13 November 2021, just over US$57 000 had been raised towards buying an armoured car for opposition MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa. He cites an attack on Chamisa’s convoy on the 11th of October 2021 by a group of suspected ZANU PF youths as evidence that Chamisa’s life was in danger.

The attack left Chamisa’s vehicles damaged and many of his aides seriously injured and hospitalized. The convoy was on its way to engaging the rural community in Masvingo to understand their issues in the aftermath of the pandemic’s 3rd wave.

Basvi believes chances that violence will intensify during the 2023 elections are high hence the need to beef up Chamisa’s security before any unfortunate eventuality occurs. Basvi added: As concerned global citizens, we have come up with this initiative to raise funds for the purchase of an amour plated vehicle as well as security apparel for his safety and security.

He also said it was clear that the regime wants to continue to frustrate democracy by attacking the main opposition. On 8 November, US$47 000 had been raised via the initiative.
