Zim woman dies of heart attack over work permit issues in SA. Chipo Mukandi, 45, a domestic worker, died after she was detained in Pretoria police cells for not having proper documentation.

A Zimbabwean woman has died of a heart attack over work permit issues in South Africa supposedly in fear of deportation.  The son, Clive Mandirahwe,22, told H-Metro that his mother died from a heart attack in fear of possible deportation.

“She did not have some papers but her passport was stamped. “I think my mum got so shocked since it was her first time being arrested over such an issue. “My father passed away a long time ago and now I’m left with my 11-year-old sister Nyasha,” he said.

Relatives told H-Metro that Chipo Mukandi, 45, along with other foreigners were arrested on November 27 in a South African Police Service (SAPS) operation on a bus in Pretoria.

“They were taken to Cullinan police station and she was put in police cells.

“An Ambulance was called in but unfortunately she died before she even got to the hospital,” said the brother Promotion Bhabhada. “Police are not assisting us in any way, they just said post mortem is four to five weeks.

“We have managed to raise money for funeral expenses and repatriation and we are now waiting for the papers to proceed,” he added. Chipo Mukandi is expected to be buried in Masvingo, her home area.

About two weeks ago, South Africa said it would not renew temporary permits of around a quarter-of-a-million Zimbabweans working in the country on their visas this month.

Castle Lager PSL postpones matches as COVID-19 wrecks havoc in teams

Castle Lager PSL postpones matches as COVID-19 wrecks havoc in teams. On Monday, the PSL directed clubs to test their players and officials for COVID-19 before they could start training the following day.

The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) has postponed several matches which were scheduled for this weekend after some clubs returned positive COVID-19 cases.

Clubs were expected to meet a 10 am deadline on Tuesday to submit the results for the tests on all playing, technical and administrative staff.

It has emerged that a number of clubs had their members returning positive results for the virus, while some teams missed the deadline. This forced PSL to postpone five matches of round three fixtures which were scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.

The Manica Diamonds v Highlanders, Dynamos v Cranborne Bullets, ZPC Kariba v Triangle United, Black Rhinos v Caps Unite matches have been postponed.

The match between Harare City and Yadah, which was set for the National Sports Stadium on Wednesday, has been moved to Sunday at the same venue.

PSL spokesperson Kudzai Bare said this particular fixture reschedule had nothing to do with COVID-19. Bare said: The postponement of the other matches is due to COVID-19 related issues.

Only four matches will now be played over the weekend amid fears that there could be further disruptions in the league campaign due to the surge in positive cases.

COVID-19 new infections in the country have been rising steadily in the past few days, with over 5 000 positive cases recorded in the last two days to bring the total cases since the onset of the pandemic to over 141 601.

Premier League football only returned last month after a 2-year’s absence due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Rapper Ti Gonzi refuses kupera, insists he’s got Zim Hip Hop under his belt

Rapper Ti Gonzi refuses kupera, insists he’s got Zim Hip Hop under his belt. It seems like yesterday when the self proclaimed King of Hip Hop yeku Ghetto stole the shine grabbing all the awards his hands could get, topping all the musical charts. But, all that glory suddenly turned into a story to remember.

As one of his lines goes ‘Kudhara Kwainakidza!’ Every music lover would agree that you can not talk about Zim Hip Hop without mentioning Ti Gonzi, well at least that was the case back then.

In the midst of the ‘nhingi apera/ nhingi haacharire’ social media buzz Nehanda Radio caught up with Ti Gonzi real name Tinashe Gonzara who has seemingly lost his grip in the music industry. Gonzi insists he still has everything under control and is set for a major come back in 2022.

He admitted that he hasn’t been doing well due to a number of difficulties he had to face. “A lot of things have been happening but I have been trying my best, it wasn’t a really good year. I still have some projects that I am working on,” said Gonzi.

The Kudhara crooner insisted that although people were not feeling him at the moment, he is fully booked for the festive season and that’s a sign he still got Hip Hop under his control.

“I have been releasing and one of my latest projects is trending on YouTube. I am booked every weekend of the festive season.”

Quizzed why his music hasn’t been on rotation on local radio stations and why it’s not being played on every street corner as it used to be in 2018 and 2019, the Kure rapper attributed his challenges to having disputes with his management.

“The reason why my music has not been landing well is because I was having problems with my management and distribution team.

“Now that I’ve sorted out everything and I am in control, my people should expect a hit any time soon,” he added. The Hip Hop fraternity in Zimbabwe is currently on the rise and it is the new cats who keep shining. Only a few have managed to hold on to the glory.

Vegetarian nut roast pie with cranberries

$

Although this is a veggie roast, this truly is a meal fit for a king. I admit this is not the shortest of recipes, but it is really satisfying to make and the pastry is brilliantly quick and simple.

For this recipe you will need an 18cm/7in springform cake tin.

Ingredients
For the filling
drizzle olive oil
4 leeks, finely sliced
4 rosemary sprigs, picked
6 thyme sprigs, roughly chopped
3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
250g/9oz chestnut mushrooms, finely chopped
5 sage leaves, roughly chopped
600g/1lb 5oz mixed nuts (e.g. pecans, cashews and hazelnuts)
150g/5½oz Gruyère, grated
3 free-range eggs
150g/5½oz dried cranberries
125g/4½oz frozen cranberries
For the pastry
100ml/3½fl oz water
80g/2¾oz butter
125g/4½oz plain flour, plus extra for rolling out the pastry
150g/5½oz wholemeal flour
pinch salt
1 free-range egg, plus 1 free-range egg, beaten, to glaze
For the gravy
2 tbsp butter
1 tsp tomato purée
1 tsp yeast extract
1 tbsp plain flour
few rosemary sprigs
500ml/18fl oz vegetable stock
pinch brown sugar
salt and freshly ground black pepper
Method
Preheat the oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6 and grease a 18cm/7in springform cake tin.

Heat the oil in a frying pan and fry the leeks, rosemary and thyme for 4-5 minutes, or until softened. Add the garlic and cook for another minute.

Add the mushrooms and sage and cook for 2-3 minutes, then remove from the heat, transfer to a large bowl and set aside to cool. (Reserve two tablespoon of this mixture for the gravy.)

Toast the nuts in the oven for 8-10 minutes (keep an eye on them as they burn really easily). Remove from the oven and set aside to cool.

Blend the nuts in a food processor to a coarse powder and add to the leek mixture with the cheese. Mix until well combined and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.

Stir in the eggs until well combined.

For the pastry, heat the water and butter in a small saucepan over a medium heat until the butter melts and the mixture just boils.

Mix the flours, salt and egg together in a bowl, then add the butter mixture and mix together really quickly until combined. Shape the dough into a ball (it should be quite moist) and chill in the fridge for five minutes.

Tear off one-fifth of the pastry and set aside, then knead the remaining pastry briefly and roll out on a well-floured work surface into a 5mm/¼in thick circle.

Flour the top of the dough, fold into four, and use it to line the 18cm/7in springform cake tin. Put the folded dough into the tin with the pointed end towards the middle, then unfold the dough so that the excess falls over the side (the dough will be quite fragile). Now ease the dough into the corners of the tin. If the dough tears, squeeze it back together again, this pastry is very forgiving.

Trim the pastry, leaving a 1cm/½in border.

Spoon half of the filling into the tin, pressing it down tightly with a wooden spoon. Tip over the dried cranberries, press down a little and finish with the rest of the pie filling, pressing down well.

Brush any exposed pastry with the beaten egg.

Roll the reserved pastry into a circle, and using the cake tin as a guide, cut out a circle with a 1cm/½in border.

Place the pastry over the top of the tin and squeeze or crimp the lid onto the pie to seal it, trimming any excess. Cut a slit in the middle of the pie to let any steam escape and bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes.

Remove the pie from the oven and carefully remove the tin. Slide the pie onto a baking tray and glaze the top and sides of the pie with the beaten egg, then return to the oven for a further 15 minutes, or until golden-brown.

Remove the pie from the oven, glaze the top again and top with the frozen cranberries. Return to the oven for a further 5-10 minutes.

Meanwhile, for the gravy, melt the butter in a saucepan and add the reserved mushroom and leek mixture followed by the tomato purée. Stir on a low heat for 2 minutes, or until it changes colour to a deeper shade of brown.

Add the yeast extract, flour and rosemary then gradually add the stock. Bring to the boil, then season with salt pepper and brown sugar.

Simmer for 10-15 minutes, until thickened. (You can strain the mixture for a smooth gravy if you like.)

Chickpea and cauliflower curry – Recipe

The flavours will improve overnight, so if you’re cooking for one you can look forward to an even tastier dinner the next day.

Each serving provides 587 kcal, 16g protein, 71g carbohydrates (of which 12g sugars), 23g fat (of which 12g saturates), 15g fibre and 0.3g salt. Serve with cooked rice or warm naan bread and garnished with sliced green chilli, or some roughly
Ingredients
1 tbsp sunflower or vegetable oil
1 small onion, sliced
1 garlic clove, crushed or finely chopped
1 tbsp grated fresh ginger (about a thumb-sized piece)
1 tbsp medium or madras curry powder
2 tsp ground turmeric (optional)
400g tin light coconut milk
1 small cauliflower, cut into florets, stalk sliced
400g tin chickpeas
1 lemon, cut into wedges

Method
Heat the oil in a saucepan and fry the onion for 5 minutes until softened. Add the garlic and ginger and fry for 2 minutes, then stir in the spices and cook for 30 seconds.

Add the coconut milk, cauliflower and the tin of chickpeas, liquid and all. Partially cover the pan and bring to the boil, then simmer for about 8 minutes until the cauliflower is tender and the sauce has thickened. If the sauce reduces too much before the cauliflower is ready, splash in some water. Or if the cauliflower is nearly done and the sauce is too thin, take the lid off to allow the sauce to reduce.

Squeeze in the juice from one or two lemon wedges, to taste. The curry shouldn’t need any salt.

To serve, scatter with chilli if you like it hot, coriander if you like it mild, or a bit of both. Serve with rice or naan bread and extra lemon wedges.

4th Wave: Schools continue closing as more cases are recorded

4th Wave: Schools continue closing as more cases are recorded. Last week, Pindula News reported that some schools in and around Harare had closed and or suspended in-person activities after detecting COVID-19 among the schools’ communities.

Schools in Zimbabwe continue to close and send pupils home following an increase of COVID-19 infections recorded in the past few weeks.

The Sunday News reports that several more schools have been closing this week. The national school calendar ends on Friday next week. One of the schools, Petra Junior, notified parents via a circular, that they were closing immediately. school authorities wrote:

In light of the growing number in our community who are sick with the common flu bug or confirmed Covid-19, we have decided today to close the Junior School to all learners except Grade Seven with immediate effect. We have several teachers who are off sick and a growing number of children who are sick in a family where other family members are unwell, and we feel that it is safe for all if we prioritise the health of our community at this time.

Girls College also informed parents that all pupils were to remain at home for the next 14 days, whether they tested positive or negative for COVID-19 in a bid to ensure there is no further spread of the virus.

They also informed the parents that no new work was going to be taught for the rest of the term, hence no need for the parents to panic over pupils missing lessons.

This comes after some of their learners tested positive for COVID-19. Christian Brothers College (CBC) has also sent learners home due to the increase of COVID-19 cases.

Reports of COVID-19 in public schools have also been reported although schools remain open. Pupils at Kumalo Primary School have tested positive and mass testing is going on at the school.

Sad as married landlord r@pes deaf and dumb tenant. The man allegedly raped the woman last week Sunday. The accused, Happias Ncube raped the complainant when his wife and the complainant’s uncle were present in the house, but in different rooms.

A 31-year-old Njube suburb man has been arrested for allegedly r@ping a 21-year-old deaf and dumb tenant residing at his place. Bulawayo police provincial spokesperson Inspector Abedinico Ncube narrated the incident. Said Inspector Ncube:

The accused arrived home around 0300 hours on December 5, 2021, complaining of a running stomach. He then went to the restroom and took his time returning, prompting his wife (32) to check on him.

When she opened the bedroom door that leads to the sitting room, she discovered her husband on top of the complainant, having s.e.xual intercourse with her.

The accused’s wife then called the complainant’s uncle (56), who was sleeping in another bedroom, they tried to talk over the issue, but did not make a report immediately as they wanted to settle the matter on their own.

The complainant later made a report to the police on December 6, which was received with the guidance and assistance of a qualified sign language interpreter.

Inspector Ncube added that the complainant said the accused had unprotected s.e.x with her, but she did not know how many times the accused r@ped her.

The complainant was referred to Mpilo Central Hospital for medical examination. Ncube urged the public to report such cases in time so that victims can get medical treatment.

Janet Manyowa postpones year-end gig. In a statement, Manyowa’s management said they have a duty to protect their fans and others as responsible citizens.

Award-winning gospel songstress, Janet Manyowa has postponed her year-end show following a spike in Covid cases in the country over the past few days. Read the statement:

Given the continued rise in COVID-19 cases that we have experienced in Zimbabwe in the last 3 days, we have had to come to the tough decision of postponing the much awaited concert, A Night of Thanksgiving (ANOT2021) which was to be held at the HICC this Sunday. Even though all was ready, cleared and in place for Sunday, we feel it is our duty as responsible citizens to value everyone’s health.

Old ticket sales remain valid and will be refunded in full if new event date falls beyond 1 January 2022. Some of Manyowa’s fans urged the artiste to consider having the show online.

Zimbabwe recorded 4 996 new covid cases on 8 December alone according to the ministry of health and child care, amid fears that gatherings may be super spreaders.

Zimbabwe has already recorded hundreds of Omicron, the new coronavirus variant that was first detected in South Africa and Botswana late last month. The government has since announced new measures to curb the spread of the virus during the festive season.

Douglas Munatsi death: Police detain last contact slay queen Colleta. Mr Munatsi died in a mysterious fire at his upmarket Harare apartment and Colleta is believed to have been the last person to see him alive. Investigators are still awaiting the autopsy and toxicology examination results and have so far questioned several other people in connection with the case.

Police have located and interviewed a woman only identified as Colleta, in connection with the death of prominent banker Mr Douglas Munatsi on November 29. Mr Munatsi, who was the chief executive of the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency (ZIDA), was said to have been alone in his penthouse at the upmarket Northfields apartments in the capital when an inferno engulfed his main bedroom.

Authorities are still trying to ascertain the cause of the fire and death through the pending post-mortem results as well as reports from the Forensic Unit and Fire Brigade. National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi yesterday said Colleta had since been interviewed and released.Colleta car

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police has located Colleta and interviewed her. At the moment, police are still conducting investigations and will release full details once investigations are complete. “We will advise the public accordingly once the toxicology examination results are out,” he said.

Among those that have been interviewed are the informant Mr Charles Gardner (32) of Northfields flats, a security guard at the flats Mr Shupai Zifunge (47) and Mr Martin Chitura (41) of Borrowdale who was employed by Mr Munatsi as a driver.

Others are Saurosi Marichambo (53) who was employed by Mr Munatsi as a chef and the deceased’s younger brother Cardmelon Munatsi (47). Investigations have so far revealed that Mr Gardner, who resides in the neighbouring apartment, heard an explosion-like noise at around 0250hours and he woke up.Colletaa

Mr Gardner went to the balcony to check where the noise was coming from and saw smoke coming out of Mr Munatsi’s apartment. He also heard a voice that was shouting for help.

He contacted the Fire Brigade who arrived at the scene in less than 20 minutes and put out the inferno after a few hours. All furniture, windows and doors in the main bedroom were extensively burnt and Mr Munatsi’s body was found with some burns on the hands and legs.

Police launched a search for Colleta after Zifunge revealed that he last saw Mr Munatsi at around 6.20pm on November 28 when he told him that he was expecting her at the flat.

Munatsi is said to have asked Zifunge to escort Colleta to his flat when she arrived and she reportedly left the flat around 9.18pm on foot.Colleta

Zifunge added that on November 29, at around 3am, he heard an explosion and he went out of the guardroom and saw Gardner running downstairs saying there was a fire in flat number C9.

Motorist robbed off car by hitch-hiking passengers. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the passengers who were picked at Harare Show Grounds were destined for Kwekwe in the Midlands Province.

A motorist was robbed of his Toyota Rav 4 by four passengers he picked along the Harare – Bulawayo Highway on 4 December. Reads a police statement on the case:

The ZRP is warning members of the public against giving lifts to strangers who end up robbing them. This follows an incident on 04/12/21 along Harare-Bulawayo Road where a Harare man (23) driving a Toyota Rav 4 picked four passengers destined for Kwekwe at Harare Show Grounds before being robbed of the vehicle and other valuables at the 50km peg.

This is not the first time for such cases to be reported suggesting that robbers. In September this year, Shepherd Dzapasi, a taxi driver based in Masvingo was robbed of his vehicle by a man only identified as Ronald who had hired the taxi from Jerera to Masvingo for US$4.

When they arrived in Masvingo, Ronald told Dzapasi that he had to take care of some business at Nemamwa. Dzapasi agreed to a US$25 deal to ferry him to the Business Centre.

The two arrived at Nemamwa Business Centre around 10 pm and they got into a nightclub and started drinking beer. After some time Ronald told Dzapasi that he was tired and wanted to rest in the car. Dzapasi gave Ronald the keys while he remained behind in the club.

Dzapasi later went outside the club and found Ronald and his car missing. He waited for some time but Ronald did not show up. He called him and Ronald hung up. When he called again, the phone was no longer reachable.

Babes Wodumo has promised her mamazala a hail of hot klaps – and she’s done it in a live Instagram video.

In the video clip Babes can be seen swearing at her husband, Mampintsha, and his mum, Zama Mnguni.

“I will beat you up and if that fails, I will send my brothers to do it!” she said.

The Reality TV star, dancer, and singer, whose real name’s Bongekile Simelane (27) from Durban, said her husband Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo (39) mustn’t disrespect her.

“He comes here and make excuses for his mother, but I don’t care,” she said.

“His mother is always asking for money. She’s a drunkard. There’s nothing you can do if your parent is from a shit family.”

Babes said she won’t apologize.

“Why must I apologize when she’s the one who must apologize to me,” she said.

Mampintsha’s sister, Pinki said they have not seen the video and they are tired of Babes’ insults.

“We’ll be calling a family meeting to deal with her,” said Pinki. “From time to time Mampintsha reports to us that he’s being abused but we can’t do anything because he loves her,” alleged Pinki.

She said Mampintsha comes home with injuries and they are scared that one day he’ll die.

“And who will take responsibility for that?” she asked.

She said they are not even sure if Babes and Mampintsha have a baby.

“We’ve never seen it,” said Pinki.

“When we ask for pictures of the baby, they send us pictures of a baby’s arms and legs.”

Babes’ father, Pastor Welcome Simelane was not available for comment.

Mampintsha’s manager Sbusiso Ncube said they are aware of the video and they will be sending a statement.

Mampintsha’s mother, Zama said: “I am not aware of the video and I don’t care. I no longer communicate with Babes or Mampintsha. I don’t want to have anything to do with them. But I guess it’s about time I do something about it.”

Babes’ manager, Keke Mokoena said she hasn’t seen the video but she is aware of it.

“I apologize on her behalf. I will meet with her and discuss it,” said Keke.
