ZIFA: Deals made in the absence of us are null and void

ZIFA: Deals made in the absence of us are null and void. There has been confusion following the suspension of the ZIFA board over alleged maladministration. Pindula News presents the association’s statement:

The Zimbabwe Football Association has warned stakeholders about entering into agreements with illegitimate representatives of the association saying such deals are null and void.

PRESS STATEMENT: ALLEGED ZIFA DECISIONS & OBTAINING OBLIGATION ARISING THEREOF

The Board has learnt through various media articles that certain decisions that are a preserve of the ZIFA Board are being taken on behalf of ZIFA. The ZIFA Board would want to inform all stakeholders that any such decisions, contracts or agreements reached under the auspices of ZIFA are null and void ab initio and therefore of no legal effect.

The ZIFA Board advises stakeholders that anyone who goes into contractual relationship with ZIFA in the absence or without express authority of the legitimate ZIFA Board is doing so at their own risk and that ZIFA will not honor any obligations arising out of such agreements even is such are on ZIFA letterheads or purportedly signed by any member of the ZIFA secretariat but without express ZIFA Board authority.

Of particular note is the fact that the ZIFA Board has not appointed any National Team Coach neither have it appointed any Acting General Secretary. As mentioned in our previous releases Mr Mamutse remains the bonafide and substantive CEO of ZIFA but like the ZIFA Board has also been physically precluded from carrying out his lawful duties by the SRC even after an appeal was lodged.

We urge all stakeholders to be very careful on the agreements they may think they are entering with ZIFA and the risk such may carry in terms of FIFA statutes. We urge these to demand that they sign whatever contracts with the real institution they are contracting, which in this case is the SRC, with to safeguard and enforce their interests in cases of defaults.

The ZIFA Board also note that the SRC Board has illegally usurped the ZIFA Board powers by clandestinely assuming the role of an interim committee and such is totally against FIFA and ZIFA statutes.

Once again. we urge for calmness and sober reflection by those that continue making the terrible blunders before we get to point of no return. There is still time though limited of self correction by those responsible for the mess we are currently in and being perpetuated.

By Order of the ZIFA Board.

Fuel queues resurfacing slowly in Harare

Fuel queues resurfacing slowly in Harare. This comes as the festive season draws close when thousands of Zimbabweans traverse the country to their holiday destinations.

Fuel queues reappeared in Harare this week, with several service stations having run out of petrol, evoking memories of the fuel crisis of late 2018 and 2019 when motorists spent days in queues.

Speaking in an interview with NewsDay Weekender on Friday, National Oil Company Infrastructure of Zimbabwe board chairperson Daniel Mackenzie Ncube said the fuel challenges emanated from Mozambique.

He said that an unscheduled maintenance exercise at pumping stations in Mozambique had resulted in fuel shortages in Zimbabwe but the situation should normalise in “a day or two”. Said Mackenzie Ncube:

We had a problem in Mozambique where they were maintaining the port so they were not pumping. … We have started pumping now. The problem should normalise in a day or two.

The scheduling in Mozambique caught us offside when they closed the port for maintenance. Mackenzie Ncube added that there was very little petrol in stock before Mozambique closed the port and this explains the petrol shortages. He said:

What we were holding was a bit low because of the pricing of petrol, so the dealers tend to sell each time they get fuel. They put it to the market instead of holding some of it.

I can’t tell you in terms of numbers, but for a few days we were not pumping but we normally pump around four million a day, but for diesel, we were holding stocks, but for petrol, our stocks were a bit on the low side and that is why they depleted very quickly.

We have been massaging the problem since last week hoping that it won’t get this far, but fortunately, we are now pumping.

MDC-T President Douglas Mwonzora reportedly planning to recall hi VP Thokozani Khupe. Khupe is through her lawyers demanding minutes of a meeting where resolutions and recommendations were made to expel her and her allies. She is alleging that some tribal remarks were made during the MDC-T National Council meeting held in Harare on 26 November 2021.

MDC-T leader, Douglas Mwonzora, is reportedly plotting to recall his deputy and the former party leader (on an interim basis), Thokozani Khupe, from Parliament.

Khupe and Mwonzora were instrumental in purging MDC Alliance MPs from parliament and their officials from councils. Pindula News presents a letter written by Khupe’s lawyers to the party’s Secretary-General:

RE: PENDING AND EXPULSION RECALL OF PARTY MEMBERS
The above matter refers.

We represent the Deputy President Hon Doctor Thokozani Khupe in this matter. Please note our professional interests.

We have been advised by our client that on the 26th of November 2021, and at Morgan Tsvangirai House, there was a National Council meeting which was held in the capital city. In that meeting, there were certain words that were used by some members that were clearly of tribalistic nature.

Further, we have been advised that it is in that meeting where certain recommendations were made to recall, Doctor Khupe and others from Parliament and local authorities. We are advised that your goad office is in possession of such minutes and resolutions.

We request that your good office share with our client, the minutes and the resolutions of the National Council of the 26th of November 2021 urgently so that we could be in a position to take full instructions.

We have it on good authority that the intended recalls were due any time, therefore, we expect to hear from yourselves as a matter of urgency.

Your usual co-operation shall be greatly appreciated.

Yours faithfully

86-year-old domestic worker dies in her employer’s backyard cabin

86-year-old domestic worker dies in her employer’s backyard cabin. Margaret Muzanago Sibanda, who has been working for the Berry family for 57 years, was reported to have been denied access to health care and ablution facilities as well as payment for years.

An 86-year-old Vainona domestic worker was found dead in her employer’s backyard cabin on Tuesday. She was found dead by the Berrys’ gardener only identified as Simon clad in her uniforms. In anger, the Muzanago family dumped her belongings in protest against the alleged abuse of Gogo Margaret under the mercy of her white man Paul Simon Berry.

Reports say Gogo Margaret had one child Christopher Muzanago who also worked as a gardener at Berry’s house in Vainona. He died at the same house in 2012. The late Gogo Margaret is also said to have refused to remove Christopher’s belongings from the room he used to occupy over unpaid salaries.

Berry told H-Metro that he was not in a position to give his side of the story referring questions to one of his relatives only identified as Mary. Said Berry: Sorry we are mourning, get in touch with Mary.

Muzanago family spokesperson Leticia Muzanago, 32, narrated to H-Metro the ill-treatment Gogo Margaret underwent as a maid since 1964 when she started working for the Berry family. Said Muzango:

Gogo died a poor person under the roof of a rich family. She passed on wearing her kitchen uniform in a cabin room located between the two better houses belonging to Berry and his son.

She started working for the Berry family in 1964 in Gweru and when her first employer who happen to be the present Berry’s parents died she was taken to Vainona in Harare in 2008 to work for the son Paul Simon Berry.

Gogo had agreed with her employer that she wanted them to keep her salaries till they buy a house for her. Paul promised to pay for a Gweru residential stand three years ago but nothing materialized. She was never taken to medical doctors but had to continue working while sick.

I visited her many times and discover that she no longer had energy to visit a toilet which was some meters away from her cabin. She had to do a bucket system till her time of death. When she died they were quick to call a funeral parlour to remove the body without engaging any of us.Margaret Muzanago Sibanda employee

When H-Metro visited the house, one Mary was ordering Muzanago to hire a lorry and remove all belongings of Gogo Margaret and that of her late son Christopher Muzanago and take them to their home village in Chirumhanzu.

In an interview, Mary told H-Metro that Margaret was very lucky to have worked for a caring family who would never do anything against her wishes.

She said Margaret refused to go to the doctor so the Berry family always had to organise a house visit which was very costly. She added: Margaret was well looked after by my partner’s brother Paul. Paul organised his maid to cook for Margaret every day.

I tried to persuade Margaret to move into a room where her late son Christopher used to stay which was close to the toilet and shower in the staff quarters but she refused.

She said in the room which Margaret rejected, there is her double bed which was given to her by Paul’s mother and a cupboard which belonged to Christopher. Mary added that when Paul’s mother died she should have gone back to Chilimanzi but she would not go.

H-Metro reports that Mary refused to answer on the salaries issue. Gogo Margaret’sMargaret’s body was not taken for post-mortem and Covid-19 tests but to a funeral parlour and straight to Chirumhanzu village on Wednesday.

Temba Mliswa tests positive for COVID-19

Temba Mliswa tests positive for COVID-19. Dear Colleagues, Honourable MPs, Parliament staff, Norton constituency and friends. Just to let you know that despite taking all precautions and testing negative on both Monday at Norton Hospital and Tuesday at Parly, I have just tested positive for Covid-19.

Norton legislator (independent), Temba Mliswa has said he tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday. Mliswa said he had tested negative on Monday and Tuesday. He posted on Twitter:

After hearing of the prevalence of Covid-19 amongst staff at Parliament yesterday, I decided to self isolate today. I also chose, as a precaution, not to risk attending a function to mark National disability day in Norton, also today, where the Minister of State was presiding.

He said he contacted his doctor for another test and the result was positive. He urged everyone who has been in contact with him to self-isolate and get tested for coronavirus. Mliswa added:

It’s the responsible thing to do once you’ve been in contact with someone who’s tested Covid-19 positive, isolate as well as letting people know.Temba COVID papers

We must learn not to stigmatise Covid-19 as it’s not only about you if you test positive, but it’s also about being responsible and serving the next person. The country must really just invest in test kits for now

This was exactly my point yesterday, I think I should be known as Prophet Mliswa forthwith. Forewarned is forearmed and disclosure is critical in mitigating the spread of the virus. It’s sad Togarepi couldn’t comprehend this point.

Mliswa said he has mild symptoms.

Robbers pounce on a mine and get away with 130kgs of Gold Carbon

Robbers pounce on a mine and get away with 130kgs of Gold Carbon. In the gold industry, activated carbon is used to recover gold from the gold-cyanide complex also known as the cyanide process. It is a technique for extracting gold from low-grade ore by converting the gold to a water-soluble coordination complex.

Armed robbers pounced on Atlas 16 Gold Mine in the early hours of Wednesday 8 December and got away with 130kgs of pregnant gold carbon worth about US$62 000. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) say the robbers were armed with knives and iron bars. Pindula News presents a police statement on the case:

The ZRP is investigating a case of robbery which occurred at Atlas 16 Gold, Mine on 08/12/21 at about 0300 hrs. Eight unknown suspects who were armed with knives and iron bars attacked two security guards who were on duty at the mine and tied them with barbed wire before proceeding to the gold carbon room where they stole 130 kgs of pregnant gold carbon worth approximately US$62 000.

ZRP officers are also investigating another robbery case in which a truck driver was robbed after a breakdown. Police said: In another case Police in Bulawayo are investigating a robbery incident where a truck driver was robbed of property worth US$1 440 after a breakdown at Umguza Bridge, along Harare-Bulawayo Rd on 08/12/21.

Woman loses over US$5 000 after investing in a Bitcoin Pyramid Scheme

Woman loses over US$5 000 after investing in a Bitcoin Pyramid Scheme. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is investigating the matter.  A 35-year-old Bulawayo woman lost over US$5 000 after investing money in a Bitcoin pyramid scheme in which she was promised to get a 20 per cent interest every 10 working days. Pindula News presents a police statement on the case:

The ZRP is investigating a case of fraud where a Bulawayo woman (35) was defrauded US 5 580 and ZAR 2500 after being lured to invest the money in a Bitcoin pyramid scheme where she was supposed to harvest 20% interest after every 10 working days.

Meanwhile, Police urges the public to avoid pyramid schemes that end up fleecing them of their hard-earned cash.

Last year, the police in conjunction with the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ), initiated an operation to apprehend institutions behind pyramid and Ponzi schemes in violation of the country’s banking regulations.

This was after a number of organisations, with no banking licence as required by law, had shut down while owing thousands to members of the public.

The central bank warned people against pyramid and Ponzi schemes that come in various forms and guises, luring people to invest their hard-earned money, promising unrealistic and unsustainable investment returns.

The RBZ said all institutions offering financial services must be issued with licences before operations commence adding that entities involved in Ponzi schemes were carrying out banking activities in breach of the Banking Act (Chapter 24:20) and Section 5 of the Banking Act.

Russia completely bans travel from 9 African countries including Zimbabwe and Hong Kong. The Government of Russia has announced that foreign visitors from nine African countries and Hong Kong are completely banned from entering the east European country to curb the spread of the Omicron variant.

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed the decree announcing new travel restrictions which were published this Saturday.

The new measures effectively cancel all earlier exceptions for diplomatic passport holders, travellers on a business visa, and some other categories of visitors.

The countries affected are Botswana, Zimbabwe, Hong Kong, Lesotho, Madagascar, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania, Eswatini and South Africa.

Initially, Russian authorities said the entry of foreigners residing in Hong Kong or in some African countries would be “restricted” due to the spread of the new strain of the infection.

Russia joins a long list of countries around the world that have restricted visitors from south Africa where the Omicron variant was initially detected.

Other countries to have adopted the draconian measures include the United Kingdom, Israel, Australia, the United States of America, New Zealand, among others. The Omicron variant was first reported in South Africa but later found to have been detected in the Netherlands at an earlier date.

On 26 November, the World Health Organisation (WHO) designated the B.1.1.529 coronavirus variant as a “Variant of Concern” and assigned it the Greek letter Omicron.

There is no denying that Zodwa Wabantu is most if not everyone’s favourite performer when it comes to her parties and performances. The socialite is known for her exotic dances and stunts that always leave many drooling and others just stunned.

Just recently, Zodwa has once again, quite literally broken the internet with a photo that has left many looking the other way. Taking to her Instagram, the socialite posted a photo of her legs, well, wide open for everyone to see what she has to offer.

See the PHOTO here

Zodwa, who was attending a friend’s birthday party must have shifted all the focus from the birthday boy and on to her because her comment section has left quite little to be desired.

While many are not at all surprised at this stunt because this is Zodwa we are talking about, others are saying that she is becoming too old for this and it’s time she tones it down.

Ways to maintain good personal hygiene without stress

Personal hygiene is one of the major ways of protecting yourself from colds, flu and other infectious diseases.

Your risk of contracting infectious diseases can be limited and at the same time improve your overall wellness by sticking to these simple and stress-free personal hygiene habits:

1. Hand washing
Washing your hands cannot be overemphasized because your hands are used for almost everything you do.

Wash your hands with soap and water, when you return from work or an outing, after using the bathroom, after disposing of garbage, after coughing or sneezing, before preparing food and after meals.

Doing these prevents you from spreading bacteria to your loved ones, even contaminating your meals.

2. Brush and floss twice a day
Doctors educate us that ideally, we’re supposed to brush our teeth and floss after every meal but brushing twice a day can save us from accumulating bacteria in our mouth and reduce the chances of future tooth decay.

In addition, make an appointment with the dentist at least every six months for a checkup.

3. Washing your bath towel
A lot of people use their towels daily and yet they fail to wash them even when they notice the color of their towel that was cream has turned brown. It is important to wash your bath towels after three uses. If you shower every day, that means towel laundry must be done twice a week.

Regular laundry of towels is sufficient to remove any germs that are beginning to accumulate and you can prevent germs from growing on your bath towel by letting it air dry after each use.

4. Keep your nails neat
Ensure your finger and toenails are well-trimmed and neat to avoid problems like; injury, poor circulation, ill-fitting shoes, infection-eczema and psoriasis.

5. Body wash
Endeavour to shower or bathe every day especially the vital areas like under your armpits, genitals and anus but you may need to wash sensitive body parts with plain water or saltwater. Always apply deodorant to your armpits to prevent body odor.

Ultimately, personal hygiene is a very important habit which every individual needs to inculcate for overall wellness.

Chadcombe armed robbery informant appears in court

Chadcombe armed robbery informant appears in court. Shine Tanaka Nyamhunga who allegedly provided armed robbers with information in the deadly Chadcombe robbery case has appeared before a Harare magistrate this Saturday charged with armed robbery.

Nyamhunga (21) was remanded in custody by the magistrate to 28 December. According to Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, Nyamhunga had given his accomplices some information on some cash transactions by a company where he is employed.

Nyathi said Nyamhunga told his accomplices that the money was being kept at his employer’s house in Chadcombe. He said Nyamhunga was in constant touch with Tariro Gora, a 21-year-old soldier killed in the shootout, with a view of having his employer targeted by the armed robbers.

Armed with the information, the five armed robbers, among them, serving members of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) went to Chadcombe on Monday night.

However, their plan failed to work after the gang attacked the wrong house where three of the alleged robbers were killed in a shootout. The robbers forcibly entered Joseph Nemaisa’s house, a former CID detective, who shot and killed three of them while two escaped unhurt but were eventually arrested by the police.

Douglas Munatsi worked in toxic and volatile operational environment

Douglas Munatsi worked in toxic and volatile operational environment. Douglas Munatsi was reportedly close to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and originally hailed from the latter’s home province, Midlands.

The late Zimbabwe Investment Development Agency (ZIDA) chief executive Douglas Munatsi worked in a tense and toxic political environment and he was eventually sucked to the centre of a vicious power struggle.

He is also said to have been among key people who were completely behind Mnangagwa during the November 2017 coup when he ousted the late former president Robert Mugabe.

Munatsi was appointed to head ZIDA and into the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe monetary policy committee (MPC) after the coup. According to The NewsHawks, in April 2020, Vice President Chiwenga visited Munatsi’s farm and this reportedly did not go down well with the Mnangagwa camp.

He explained to the publication that Chiwenga had asked to visit his Kunatsa Farm at Matepatepa in Bindura North, Mashonaland Central province.

Munatsi said after Chiwenga’s visit, he had received a warning from “security circles” as to why he had invited the Vice-President before Mnangagwa came to his farm.

Munatsi had earlier last year visited Mnangagwa’s Precabe Farm in Sherwood, Kwekwe, Midlands province. He told reporters that there were people who were not happy that he was interacting with Chiwenga and the late Agriculture minister Perrance Shiri, and were threatening him.

Munatsi said the people threatening him were from “security, military intelligence”. He eventually invited Mnangagwa to visit his farm on 28 August 2020, which he did.

Analysts say the move was meant to prove to those who were now accusing him of defecting to the Chiwenga camp while assuring Mnangagwa of his loyalty. A The NewsHawks source was quoted as saying:

That he found himself engulfed in toxic political, business and corruption fights is not in doubt. The only question is whether that played a part in his murder or not. Quite clearly it did. He was killed for political and business reasons.

Munatsi was reported to have not been on good terms with business rivals around Mnangagwa over access to the President, business deals and ZIDA issues. The banker died on 29 November in a mysterious fire at his upmarket Harare apartment.

Authorities are still trying to establish the cause of the fire and death through the pending post-mortem results as well as reports from the Forensic Unit and Fire Brigade. Mnangagwa said Munatsi died in “unclear circumstances”.

Manchester City beat 10-men Wolves

Man City beat 10-men Wolves. Sterling kept his cool to roll his 66th-minute spot-kick past Jose Sa after a lengthy VAR check ruled Joao Moutinho had illegally blocked Bernardo Silva’s cross, even though it seemed to hit the Wolves midfielder on his armpit.

Raheem Sterling converted a controversial penalty to reach 100 Premier League goals and give Manchester City victory in a one-sided contest with 10-man Wolves.

The decision compounded Wolves’ frustrations given they were annoyed at Raul Jimenez’s dismissal for two yellow-card offences within seconds of each other near the end of the opening period.

Not that the visitors could have any complaints on the balance of play. City had 24 shots compared to Wolves’ three. Jose Sa made three excellent saves to deny the hosts, Conor Coady headed an Ilkay Gundogan effort off the line, Max Kilman blocked a goalbound Phil Foden effort and Jack Grealish somehow failed to convert Sterling’s far-post cross with the goal at his mercy.

Kilman brought a save out of Ederson at the end but Wolves have failed to score in their past four games and managed just one goal in their past six.

In contrast, City have now six Premier League games in a row to maintain their place at the top of the table and keep the pressure on title rivals Liverpool and Chelsea.

Top education official raises concern over cellphone levy fees

Top education official raises concern over cellphone levy fees. Presenting the 2022 National Budget Statement in Parliament last month, Mthuli Ncube proposed the introduction of the US$50 duty on cellphones. He said the tax will be refunded within 30 days if import duty had been paid on the cellphone when it was imported.

Mashonaland East Provincial Education Director (PED), Anatoria Ncube says the US$50 cellphone levy announced by the Minister of Finance and Economic Development Mthuli Ncube will have a negative impact on the education sector.

This comes as online learning has gradually been taking centre stage since the emergence of the novel coronavirus which forced schools to shut down a few times since early 2020.

Speaking during an interview with The Mirror, PED Ncube said rural parents are not going to afford the gadgets needed for their children’s education. She said:

The levy will have a grass and negative impact on the rural people who are the majority of our population. Parents will not afford these gadgets and this will negatively impact rural education.

… We are trying to digitalise as a nation, E-learning is becoming popular in schools and boom we introduce new taxes on gadgets. The Minister is like the right hand that doesn’t know what the left hand is doing

Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) president, Obert Masararure said that the cellphone levy if implemented, will cripple education. He said cellphones are no longer luxuries but a tool for education needed by pupils and students from the lowest grades up to University.

The combative unionist implored the Government to scrap the levy as Zimbabwe was lagging far behind other countries in terms of digitalisation. Masararure was speaking at the launch of his organisation’s voter education campaign in Chivhu.
