Miss World Zim queen crowned

University of Cape Town film and acting student Chiedza Lorraine Mhosva was crowned Miss World Zimbabwe 2017 last weekend at Borrowdale Brooke Golf Course, beating 15 other contenders from different provinces.

The 22-year-old beauty walked away with a cash prize amounting to $20 000 and a brand new vehicle to be unveiled in two weeks’ time.

Gokwe beauty Everlyn Njelele (23) was crowned first princess, walking away with $10 000, while second princess Kundai Claire Somerai (21) took home $5 000.

Miss Personality was won by Tariro Zvizhinji aged 23 and she scooped a prize of $5 000.

The Miss Personality award was based on a voting system which was open on social media.

In an interview after the crowning ceremony, the cheerful Miss Mhosva said she was excited and shocked.

“I am excited and still can’t believe this. It has been my dream and I thank God for the opportunity. The first thing that I am going to do with the money is to take my mother out.

“It has been long since I did that. I also want to pay my tuition fees and at the same time look for someone who would want the same assistance,” she said.

Miss Mhosva said she is not new to the modelling industry as she was once on the ramp and did photo-shoots for some fashion houses.

“In 2014, I entered Miss Parade and was voted first runner-up. I am signed with Decean Modelling Agency in Cape Town, South Africa,” she said.

Asked what her major strength was during the boot-camp to the finale, she said she was identifying her strengths.

“I took the tutorials by Marry Chiwenga. I said my aim is the crown. Here I am,” she said.

Miss Mhosva said models should work with professional agencies for them to succeed in the industry as they know the actual requirements.

She sailed through her question and answer well after being asked: “What does this year’s theme mean to you?”

“It means love and beauty is not only based on physical features, but intelligence, heart and love and that was what the late Kiki Divaris was made of”

Here is a quick look at the whole show: The sponsor Former Miss Tourism Zimbabwe 2016 sponsor Big Time Investments, chief executive Mr Justice Maphosa took another step in sponsoring this pageant from prizes, stage-work, and lighting to some of the performers.

Mr Maphosa said he has passion in the development of beauty pageants, especially in Zimbabwe.

“We always see and admire other pageants from other countries, but why not bring that home? Yes, I have sponsored this pageant and we are going to sit down with Miss Zimbabwe Trust to structure our partnership agreement. I will hand over the prizes in two weeks’ time,” he said.

He didn’t want to say how much he had invested in this pageant, but said it is about patriotism.

Mr Maphosa gave all 16 finalists $1 000 cash apart from the grand prizes.

The beauty pageant Yes, a lot have been said about the 16 finalists, with some people blasting them on social media that Zimbabwe wasn’t ready with the quality of girls taking part at the pageant.

We need to support and appreciate each other for the betterment of the industry.

However, the girls somehow seemed nervous although stage-work was well-choreographed, courtesy of Hillary Indi.

There was a missing wow factor in them.

Then there was this missing issue too, the models had no tags (numbering) as the norm as it was somehow difficult to remember who the first was or last.

Perhaps the judges and crowd were assisted by the screens which had their pictures and numbers.

Another factor was on uniformity.

They had designers who worked on them, but somehow seems the models used their own shoes.

The models nightwear was done by local designer Spero Villiot and it matched world standards.

Another gem of the night was when they choreographed with MTM song ‘Chekeche’ which drove the crowd into frenzy as the models introduced themselves.

There was commotion in Vainona after the messenger of court stormed a funeral attaching property as the debtor’s body lay in state at his home.

Genius Chigwada, 63, died on July 17 and he was owing a certain local bank money amounting to US$41 000.

Genius Chigwada

Chigwada’s relative, Munodei told H-Metro that Genius was given a loan by a local bank before he died and it was for farming after they were given land by the government.

Unfortunately, he died before settling the debt.

During his funeral an auctioneer on behalf of the high court showed up before burial and started taking properties to compensate the debt left by the late Chigwada.

An altercation arose among Chigwada’s family members and the messenger from the high court about why they had to take away Genius’s properties while they were still mourning him and before burying him.

Munodei said: “Is it proper for the messenger of court to come and take away Chigwada’s properties on the same day that he died considering the fact that we were still in shock and mourning him,” he said.

President blasts ‘thieving’ Pastors who steal in the name of God

President Mugabe has blasted “pastors” who steal from congregants in the name of God.

In the past few years, Zimbabwe has witnessed a mushrooming of pentecostal movements whose often youthful pastors stage-manage miracles to entice congregants from whom they make a fortune through tithes, personal donations and seeding of money.

President Mugabe was speaking at the 60th birthday celebrations of his sister-in-law, Mrs Junior Gumbochuma.

Mrs Gumbochuma is First Lady Amai Grace Mugabe’s eldest sister.

The President and Amai Mugabe gave Mrs Gumbochuma $60 000 as a gift while their children, Russell, Robert Junior, Chatunga, Bona and her husband Mr Simba Chikore gave her $10 000.

The gift was to thank Mrs Gumbochuma, a ZAOGA pastor, for the pivotal role she played in raising the First Family’s children.

President Mugabe took the opportunity to give wise counsel to hundreds of people who gathered for the celebrations.

He said individuals should worship God directly, instead of relying on so-called “men of God”.

He said it was shocking that there were pastors who were flocking to Nigeria in search of God.

“Kana pari pakunamata, ndinoti Mwari hapana minamato yavasingatambire whether you are Catholic or ZAOGA. Kana uri kuPostori dzekwaMarange, minamato yekwaMwari inotambirwa. Minamato kazhinji kuchurch idzi, established churches inobva kuBible, magariro aJesus, maCatholics ndoyavanoda inobva kuNew Testament,” the President said.

“Kune mamwe machurch vanokopa zvese kubva kuna vana Moses. Hatidi, hatidi zvekunyeperwa zvekuti ah tiri mapastor, asi hupastor zvichireva kuunganidza mari dzinobva kuvanhu nguva nenguva. Mari dzevanhu? Kungotora Bible kuna Corinthians kwakuparidza kuvanhu kwave kutoita mari, kupfuma nemazuva matatu.”

President Mugabe, who is a devout Catholic, urged Christians to read and depend on the Bible, which is the ultimate word of God.

“Hatidi zverudzi irworwo. Isu tiri veestablished churches, tinoti vanhu ngavafunde vave neruzivo rweBible. Munhu pachake, iye pachakewo anokwanisa kunamata directly kuna Mwari. Munhu haamiriri kunamatirwa. Zvino avo vanoita se rally yangu, rally dziya dzinouya vazhinji idzi, chero MDC hapana angatikwikwidza panyaya iyoyo,” he said.

“Zvino ndobva ndati pa rally ipapo, ya-a, kuti tienderere mberi tose tinosungirwa kuwana spiritual support for our problems. I need maize, everyone must contribute every month something to our Treasury. I have dreamt madreams ekuti tikarega kudaro MDC will take over. I have dreamt and my dream will come true. So let us act quickly and prevent that. Imi modaira kuti ah-h, ah-h! Even maMinisters anoti this is a man of God. Each and everyone, especially those in leadership must show in accordance to 1 Corinthians and people will be running back and forth…vomhanya zvino kuNigeria.

“Mwari anoenderwa kuNigeria, eh, vakamuona here?…Ngatiregerei kuva vanhu vane ndangariro dziri pasi dzakadaro. Mwari ndewevanhu vese. Kana takaramba vabereki vari kuZAOGA, Anglican, that’s it. Aiwa zvakanaka.”

President Mugabe also took time to praise Mrs Gumbochuma who he described as a devout woman of God.

“Mai vaMozi (Mrs Gumbochuma) ava, mukavapa chipo chinoguma chava kuchurch. Zvakanaka zvazvo izvo, rubatsiro but unenge wati nderwavo kwete rwekubatsira kuchurch. Aiwa tinoda kuvatenda zvikuru tichiti makorokoto 60 years. Ndoda kuti musvike 90,” he said.

The President then thanked God for a long life.

He went on, “Ndinotenda Mwari kuti vandisvitsawo pamakore aya 93. Ndinoramba ndichinamata. Handiregere kunamata. Kubva ndiri kuhondo ndaienda neRosary, manamatire edu kuRoma (Catholic Church).

President Mugabe also spoke against discriminating against people based on one’s social standing in society.

“Tinofanira kuda vanhu nekuti chero kuZanu-PF tinoti, we are a people’s party. Tinokurirwa nevechurch nekuti isu tinobvunza kuti une card here reparty. Vechurch vanoti unotenda here kuna Mwari? Ndozvatinoda, kuva munhu wevanhu.

Mugabe warns criminals against abusing Zanu-PF and tarnishes the Party

Zanu-PF should not tolerate little criminals who move around beating up people in the name of the party as this tarnishes the brand of the revolutionary party, President Mugabe has said.

He said this while addressing youths on the fourth leg of his youth interface rallies in Lupane on Friday.

His remarks were directed at a Mr Munyaradzi Shoko and his accomplices whose video of them beating up a supposed opposition member while wearing Zanu-PF regalia is circulating on social media.

Shoko is said to be a leader of an organisation called Children of Zimbabwe War Veterans’ Association (COZWA).

In the same video, Mr Shoko and one Phionah Riekert, are shown moving in a vehicle with Zanu-PF stickers chanting the slogan “munhu wese kuna Amai” (First Lady Amai Mugabe).

The President said such people were committing a crime and should be punished.

Mr Shoko is known for his notorious messages on social media attacking the Zanu-PF leadership particularly Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the country’s security agencies.

Zanu-PF Secretary for Youth League Kudzanayi Chipanga yesterday dissociated the party’s youths from COZWA.

There is a also letter circulating on social media reportedly signed by Zanu-PF Secretary for Administration Ignatius Chombo confirming the group to be an affiliate of the ruling party.

Said President Mugabe: “I heard that there are some organisations that are moving in the name of Zanu-PF beating people saying forward with President Mugabe. We don’t do that. That is not our motto and you should                      not allow those small groups to spoil our name. Wherever you see them, seize them and get them out of the road . . .”

Chipanga had no kind words for COZWA and its leadership saying they were tarnishing Zanu-PF’s name.

Robert Mugabe

He said the youth wing rejected COZWA’s application to be an affiliate organisation. “They (COZWA) requested to be an affiliate but we rejected that,” he said.

“We dissociate ourselves as the Youth League from their activities because they are tarnishing the name of the party. We do not want people who behave like prefects to the party and they are moving around beating up people. Zanu-PF does not believe in violence. I urge our youths to join the party and not such dubious organisations.”

Asked on the purported letter with Chombo’s signature affirming COZWA’s affiliate status, Chipanga said: “If there is a letter from Chombo, I am not aware of it but as the Youth League we dissociate ourselves from COZWA. We do not want dual allegiance. We are protecting our brand and our President. If they are moving around beating up people while wearing party regalia what message are they sending to the electorate?”

In the letter in question addressed to Saviour Kasukuwere (National Political Commissar) dated 30 April 2017, Chombo allegedly wrote: “I write to advise that Zanu-PF would like to affirm that COZWA (Reg #NAOO/16/10/16) is recognised as an affiliate of the party. It is our hope that COZWA will use its countrywide grassroots structures to conscientise the youths of the Zanu-PF ideology.

“For the avoidance of doubt the party position and records, please recognise and confirm that COZWA should be included in all party grassroots mobilisation programmes. I hope and trust you will be able to work with COZWA political commissar Munyaradzi Shoko who is totally dedicated to His Excellency, R.G Mugabe.”

Asked for a comment, Chombo referred questions to Chipanga saying he was  responsible for all affiliate organisations to do with the Youth League.

Chombo terminated the conversation before responding to whether he was the author of the letter affirming COZWA’s affiliate status to Zanu-PF.

Mr Shoko yesterday confirmed that the videos circulating on social media were his.

He said the videos were shot sometime back when members of some shadowy group #Tajamukademonstrated in Harare last year. “Yes they are my videos but they are not new videos,” he said.

“The yellow car on that video does not belong to COZWA but to a member of COZWA. If that member is abusing the name of the party or that of the First Lady he should be arrested. I have realised that since last Friday there are some people who are posting messages on social media using my name saying I have apologised to the President and the First Lady. I have never issued any statement.”

Mr Shoko said he had made a police report over the matter under RRB No 3203993.

Man on the run after axing father to death

POLICE have launched a manhunt for a Masvingo man who allegedly fatally struck his father on the head with an axe after the father attempted to restrain him from assaulting his wife.

The man suspected that his wife was having an extra- marital affairs.

Taurai Vurende of Mabuto Village under Chief Murinye allegedly struck Gamuchirai Vurende (65) on the head with an axe twice and he died on the spot on July 12.

Taurai fled into a nearby bush leaving his father’s lifeless body in a pool of blood.

Acting Masvingo police Assistant Inspector Kudakwashe Dehwa said the incident occurred at about 8PM.

He said police took Gamuchirai’s body to Masvingo General Hospital mortuary for a postmortem.

“We have received a report of murder involving a son and his father from Chief Murinye area. The father attempted to restrain his son from assaulting his wife. The son retaliated by striking his father on the head with an axe. He died on the spot from excessive bleeding. The suspect fled the scene after committing the crime and he is still at large,” said Asst Insp Dehwa.

axe-blood

Sources said on the fateful day at around 8AM, a villager, Ms Brandina Chikukurume, allegedly told Ms Mercy Matsvaire (30) who is Taurai Vurende’s wife that someone had phoned greeting her.

It is alleged that Ms Chikukurume relayed the message to Ms Matsvaire in the presence of her husband.

Taurai accused Ms Chikukurume of influencing his wife to engage in prostitution.

Asst Insp Dehwa said a dispute ensued between Ms Chikukurume and Taurai but the man avoided making noise and left for Chatikobo Business centre for a beer drink.

“At around 8 PM, he returned but passed by his father’s, Mr Gamuchirai Vurende’s homestead. He also passed by Ms Chikukurume’s homestead taking his children who used to put up there,” he said.

Asst Insp Dehwa said Taurai took the children home while scolding them, advising them against sleeping at Ms Chikukurume’s homestead.

At home, Ms Matsvaire is said to have advised her husband against shouting at the children and Taurai started assaulting her.

Asst Insp Dehwa said the commotion attracted Taurai’s parents. “Ms Matsvaire fled into the bush and Taurai took an axe and pursued her,” he said.

Taurai, Asst Insp Dehwa said, passed by Ms Chikukurume’s homestead where he allegedly struck a door screen and a piece of his axe fell into the lounge.

“Taurai started accusing his parents of aiding his wife to escape from him. He force-marched his mother into the kitchen where his father, Vurende was. An enraged Taurai allegedly struck his father twice in the head with an axe and he died on the spot.”

Taurai allegedly fled into the bush with the weapon in his hand.

Ms Vurende reported the murder at Muchakata Police Station.

Grace Mugabe is walking without any difficulty following a freak accident

FIRST Lady Dr Grace Mugabe has described as a “miracle” that she is walking without any difficulty following a freak accident at the Harare International Airport a week ago in which she suffered an ankle injury.

Speaking at a farm in Shamva on Saturday during birthday celebrations for her sister, Mrs Junior Gumbochuma who turned 60, Amai Mugabe said she had recovered tremendously.

Amai Mugabe also celebrated her 52nd birthday yesterday.

“We were returning from Singapore. We landed on Saturday morning at around 7.30am. I remember that vividly and there were people of course waiting to receive us. I was with officials from state occasions and also close to them was Dr Mushohwe (Information, Media and Broadcasting Services Minister),” she said.

“We were actually talking about this programme (Mrs Gumbochuma’s birthday party),” she said.

The First Lady said while discussing, she did not realise that the President was already in the car.

“Someone said ahh Amai, President is already in the car get in the car. As I moved towards the car, there was another vehicle close by and one of the officials was following with my bag. When I was about to get into the vehicle, I do not know what got into the head of the driver as he set the car in motion,” she said

Grace Mugabe
“I am telling you I was runover by the armoured car, believe me. My leg was crushed and I thought I was not going to walk the rest of my life.  I thought I had suffered multiple fractures but let me tell you, God is there. I am walking with a bit of pain, I am a very strong person but I really suffered on that day because the leg was very painful. I had concluded that I was not going to wear shoes the rest of my life,” said Dr Mugabe.

She thanked God for her miraculous healing which has seen her managing to wear shoes and walk properly.

“I was really runover by a car and you later heard of the incident. I used to hear people saying they survived after being runover by cars and mine is also a miracle that I am walking today.

This happened to me and that is why I say if you pray God will protect you.

“I really saw the hand of God that day,” said the First Lady.

She said she could not walk for a few days and on Tuesday she forced herself to go to work putting on slippers as she could not wear flat or high heeled shoes.

I had to go to the gym to massage myself on the leg so that I recover quickly and on Thursday I was feeling better,” said Dr Mugabe.

“I wanted to attend the Matabeleland North rally and I said God I am not going to miss it. I prayed that I would attend the rally without fail,” she said.

The First Lady said the President was surprised that she was putting on shoes.

She urged people to pray and depend on God for wisdom.

“You do not get wisdom because you are Amai Mugabe or President Mugabe, wisdom comes from God. I was taught by my mother that every day I should wake up and pray in the morning for God to give me more and more wisdom,” said Amai Mugabe.

She also said parents should be patient with their children when they misbehaved.

Amai Mugabe said young people were bound to be naughty at some point whether they were the President’s children or not.

She said what was worrying was that children were drinking alcohol, taking drugs and engaging in anti-social activities that were harmful to their lives.

Olinda Chapel: Dear Ngoni… Olinda has written a letter to Ngoni and Nyasha after the video of the couple went VIRAL….. Read it below.

Ngoni and NyashaDear Ngoni

If you discover that your wife has brought in one or two children from outside, be a virtuous man and take them in.

That is what marriage is all about.

Don’t lose your home because of that.

You cannot prevent your wife from seeing handsome men. It will take the grace of God for her not to cheat but if it happens, just understand that she is only human. Forgive your wife and don’t let the strange man win.

The strange man is out to ruin your home. Strange men are agents of the devil. Don’t lose your wife to him. Hold your wife’s hands and pray the strange man out of your marriage. A wise man builds his home.

Love your wife like never before during those times. Make love to her more often so she can quickly forget about the other man.

Fight for your marriage, oh virtuous man.

Fight for your wife.

Fight on your knees in the war room.

Intercede for your marriage.

If you lose your wife, it is the other man who will end up winning.

Don’t let another man take your place.

Guard your home, oh virtuous man.

And oh virtuous man, once the strange man is out, never bring up the issue again.

Forgive and forget about the issue.

Now, if your wife has the habit of sleeping with different men, it is most likely because there is something you are not giving her at home. It is most likely because you have failed in some responsibilities as a man.

Sit down and think about why your wife is straying.

Do you watch her favorite movies with her?

Do you dress well and smell nice for her?

Strange men of this world know how to do these things.

Give your wife what she needs and please, don’t stop praying for her.

Don’t lose your home because she is cheating.

Intercede for your marriage and meet her needs.

With time, she will change.

*************

How does this sound to you?

Annoying, right?

Yes, it is.

That is what many women are told.

Stop preaching such trash to women.

Sleeping around has no place in a marriage.

If you are a man or woman who sleeps around, you need to change your ways.

It is not only the woman who should be faithful; the same applies to the man.

Tsvangirai has the numbers to remove Mugabe – Muchauraya

Former spokesperson of the Elton Mangoma led Renewal Democrats of Zimbabwe (RDZ) Pishayi Muchauraya who recently crossed floor to the Tsvangirai led MDC-T has described his move to Tsvangirai as a realisation that only numbers will remove Mugabe

Muchauraya who was a former MDC-T Makoni North legislator left the MDC-T after the party 2014 split in 2014 which saw a group led by Tendai Biti leaving the party over the need for leadership renewal.

The group later had disagreements with Mangoma’s forming his RDZ project in 2015 where Pishayi was elected the spokesperson at its inaugural congress.

Having vowed to support Mangoma whom he has described as an able leader and has been popular on social media for fronting his unpopular #Munhu Nechitupa (voting using IDs) campaign Muchauraya announced that he had rejoined the MDC-T at a rally in Chipinge last week.

 Pishai-Muchauraya

This reporter caught up with Muchauraya who is a former provincial spokesperson for the MDC-T in Manicaland who said he had no beef against Mangoma whom he described as an brilliant leader who should sacrificed his personal interests and work with Tsvangirai.

“Mangoma is a great leader. He must think beyond personalities and out everything in the past and rekindle his union with Tsvangirai, he would be an asset in Tsvangirai’s government. There is no doubt that the man is brilliant hard worker but numbers do count in the game of politics,” he said.

The former legislator said Tsvangirai was the only suitable leader in the country’s opposition circles adding all those that wanted to remove Zanu PF must join the veteran opposition leader.

“I am following the majority who see Tsvangirai as the only person with enough numbers to challenge Mugabe. Tsvangirai has the critical, charisma and the much-needed charm to win the hearts and minds of Zimbabweans.

Asked on who should lead the proposed opposition grand coalition Muchauraya said Tsvangirai is a ‘natural leader’ and people should ‘join him’.

A Harare man suspected of killing socialite and biker Shingi Mukandi (33) in a hit and run this past weekend has been named, while the vehicle he involved in the fatal crash has been recovered, including key pieces of evidence, sources with the Zimbabwe Republic Police have confirmed to Khuluma Afrika.

Earlier this afternoon, several members of the police, from different units, stormed the Malbereign home of the man, before placing the residence on lock down.

“As we speak, we have units from Vehicle Theft Sqaud, CID Homicide, and members of ZRP Crime Intelligence Unit at Zambezi Flats, where we were looking for the suspect behind the hit and run”, said a police source, who refused to be named.

Another resident, of Zambezi Flats, independently confirmed the heavy police presence at the compound.

“There are maybe 20 or 30 armed police officers, some in dark suits and dark shades. They have just stormed the door but they found the house empty”, the resident narrated.

According to the police source, they managed to recover the vehicle, a white Isuzu, which one witness had described as fleeing the scene after the crash.
