Couple’s only 2 kids drown attempting to swim in Zamba Dam

Two siblings aged three and five years drowned in Filabusi on Thursday after attempting to swim in Zamba Dam. Junior Nkala (5) and Sithandweyinkosi (3) were the only children in their family.

Their cousin, Patience Nkala (3), who was with them when they drowned, survived.

Villagers found patience wandering near a clinic about three kilometres from the dam.

The tragedy occurred at Zamba village in Mahole area on Thursday afternoon. Villagers retrieved the bodies at night on the same day.

Ms Melody Dube, Patience’s mum said:”It is by luck that Patience survived but she cannot tell us much regarding the incident given her age. There is a very deep and dangerous well in our home garden but they never went there.

“It’s sad that they went to play at the dam and drowned.”

Ms Dube said the family had gone to attend a family meeting and had left the children under the custody of a neighbour.

Family Spokesperson Mr Owen Dube, who is grandfather to the deceased children, said his family was in shock.

“We are in deep sorrow. I just can’t explain the heartbreak and pain that I am going through. These children were the light of our home and we were looking forward to Junior starting Grade Zero soon,” said Mr Dube.

The children were staying with their grandparents as their parents work in Bulawayo.

The children’s father, Mr Sydney Nkala, arrived at the funeral wake yesterday accompanied by other family members.

Mr Dube said the children’s bodies were n@ked which meant they removed the clothes and went in to swim.

“It is astonishing that three-year-olds would think of removing their clothes, fold them neatly and then leave them behind to play in water.

“I just cannot understand it because normally you would expect kids to toss clothes all over,” said Mr Dube before breaking down.

The dam is said to have become a death trap as some people drowned in the same dam recently.

Matabeleland South Police spokesperson Inspector Philisani Ndebele confirmed the incident

Morgan Tsvangirai set to meet party structures in Harare

MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai will today meet the party’s Harare provincial structures as he continues to consolidate and marshal the party membership to back his candidature as coalition leader in the make-or-break 2018 general elections.

Tsvangirai’s meeting with the structures comes as he gave an ultimatum to other opposition parties that they should join the coalition by the end of this month or his party would go it alone.

Party spokesman Obert Gutu confirmed the provincial meeting that will be addressed by Tsvangirai, which comes hardly a day after a similar one in Bulawayo yesterday.

“President Tsvangirai will tomorrow (today) meet with the Harare party structures. The provincial assemblies are held in terms of the MDC constitution where leadership in the province has to discuss issues and get acquainted of what’s going on,” Gutu said.

Morgan-Tsvangirai-MDCHe added the party would discuss the forthcoming elections and what was expected of its membership. “Some of the topical issues will be the issue of biometric voter registration and the electoral reforms the party is seeking ahead of the 2018 general elections. Issues pertaining to coalition talks will be discussed in passing,” Gutu added.

MDC-T youths last week went out into Harare streets demanding the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) to relax voter registration requirements in urban areas and increase registration centres.

The demonstrations came soon after Zec announced there would be 9 663 registration centres across the country and Harare and Bulawayo were allocated 700 and 400 centres respectively. Manicaland got 1 310, Mashonaland Central 870, Mashonaland East 1 135 and Mashonaland West 1 220.

Masvingo was allocated 1 265, Matabeleland North 850, Matabeleland South 640 and Midlands 1 390. The opposition complained that the Zec decision was a deliberate ploy to rig the polls in favour Zanu PF by easing registration for the rural folk while restricting those living in urban areas.

A RUSAPE man allegedly force-marched his wife to a mountain before fatally assaulting her with an unknown object.

James Sikila (33) of Muradzi Village in Chief Tandi’s area who has been on the run since April was arrested last weekend while hiding at his brother’s House Number 3027, Magamba Extension in Rusape.

Sikila appeared in court on Monday and was not asked to plead by Rusape magistrate, Mr Shane Kubonera, who remanded him in custody to July 31.

Mr Kubonera also advised Sikila to apply for bail at the High Court as he was facing a serious offence

arrested

State prosecutor, Mr Tafara Chawatama, told the court that the skeletal remains of Sikila’s wife whose name was not provided in court papers were discovered in the mountain two weeks after her callous murder and were taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare for post-mortem.

“On April 14 at around 10pm, Sikila had a misunderstanding with his wife while they were in their bedroom hut.

“Sikila later force-marched his wife to a nearby mountain where he assaulted her with an unknown. The wife sustained serious head injuries resulting in her death.

“Her remains were discovered scattered all over the scene of the murder after two weeks. A post mortem was carried at Parirenyatwa Hospital,” said Mr Chawatama

Freeman Arrested over Two Fake Passports

Chanter Freeman has been fined after he was rumbled having applied and received two passports.

Freeman, real name Emegy Chizanga lied to the Registrar’s Office that he had lost his passport. He appeared before a magistrate who fined him $50 after convicting him for supplying false onformation to a public authority.

Freeman said greed had forced him to apply for a second passport. He had submitted his other passport to the British Embassy for a visa.

FREEMAN“Your worship I beg your forgiveness I did this out of greediness. My first passport was with the British Embassy for visa processing since I was to travel to a show there. While the UK visa was being processed, I was invited for another show in Cape Town, South Africa and there was no way I could travel without a passport, so I had to lie to get another one,” he said.

The matter came to light when the British Visa expired and he resubmitted the passport he had said was lost for another one. When the British Embassy realised the anomaly, it impounded the passport and lodged a complaint with the police leading to his arrest

Students, teacher appear before headman’s court to answer allegations of Satanism

SIX  Nyanyadzi High School students and a primary school teacher appeared before Headman Gudyanga’s court last Saturday to answer allegations of their involvement in acts of Satanism.

An unprecedented crowd of more than one thousand people attended the court session.

One Form Four student was accused of being a key member of the Satanism cult by her colleagues while the primary school teacher from neighbouring Dirikwe Primary School professed ignorance about Satanism activities, and said she might have been used unknowingly

One of the school teachers goes through the screening and cleansing ceremony

While testifying, one of the girls said: “I saw her (the Form Four student) on a number of occasions coming to me in my dreams, offering me food but I flatly refused. I did not report the matter to my parents or teachers but I told my friends about it.

“That happened during the first term. This term I had swollen eyes and the problem persisted even after consulting several medical practitioners. My parents sought help from spiritualists and that is where we were told that there were attempts to initiate me into Satanism. I would see her (the Form Four student) coming to me with apples and strawberries but I consistently refused.”

Another school girl told the headman’s court that she saw the same girl coming to her with a crown, which she wanted her to put on but she refused.

“It actually happened last Tuesday when we had finished having dinner at home and I had a terrible headache. When I closed my eyes I saw her (the Form Four student) coming to me in the company of three other girls. She was holding a crown that she handed over to me to put on but I refused. I struggled like I was in a nightmare until I woke up,” she said.

cleansing

The girl’s mother, who is also teacher at the same school, said it had been a while since she discovered her child’s problems.

“I have been having problems because of my daughter’s behavioural change as well as inexplicable health conditions such as during the times that she would collapse and suddenly wake up without complaining about any ailment. At times, she would come home being held by her friends and after a short period she regains her consciousness.

We tried all avenues in the medical health sector but they could not find any problems on her until as a parent I then consulted spiritualists who told us the real problem that she was facing,” she said.

The other three girls who also appeared before the court professed ignorance about acts of Satanism.  However, the female teacher at Dirikwe High School, who had been named as part of those that had been recruited, said she was not part of the Satanism cult unless if she was involved unknowingly.

student-collapse

“I am here to hear about the allegations levelled against me being involved in Satanism. I know nothing about it unless if I was initiated unknowingly and I am involved unknowingly. That is all I want to know,” she said.

The court adjourned to Sunday when apostolic exorcists carried out a cleansing ceremony to screen and cleanse the victims. Hundreds of students from Nyanyadzi High School, as well as surrounding schools underwent the screening and cleansing ceremony, including some among the six teachers and school children who had initially been implicated.

The alleged Satanism ring leader and two other female teachers did not attend the cleansing ceremony at the headman’s court.

But onlookers were taken aback when one Nyanyadzi High School teacher and the Form Four student, both of whom were implicated as key players in the cult passed the test and were deemed clean.

Emmanuel Banga Sithole, a popular figure in the Nyanyadzi community, felt that the cleansing ceremony was not authentic, questioning why known suspects passed through the screening.

However others interviewed by The Weekender said that the cleansing ceremony helped resolve the issue that had created tension in the community.

Last Tuesday, anti-riot police descended on Nyanyadzi High to restore calm after angry pupils and parents demanded the sacking of the female teacher accused of masterminding the initiation of three colleagues and 400 children into Satanism.

Primary and Secondary Education Minister, Dr Lazarus Dokora, has since dismissed reports of pupils being initiated into Satanism at the school as mere hysteria.

Zapu wants 2018 elections postponed

$

Zapu president Dumiso Dabengwa has called for the postponement of the 2018 elections claiming the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) was not yet ready to conduct a credible poll.

Dabengwa told a news conference here yesterday that the opposition must not be rushed into an election that they will lose.

“Zapu’s investigations into the country’s readiness to hold free and fair elections in 2018 have revealed that Zimbabwe is not ready for the 2018 elections because of issues concerning the voters’ roll,” Dabengwa said.

“The primary issue of concern is that Zec has not generated a new voters’ roll since the last elections held in 2013, therefore, the 2013 voters’ roll will be one used for the 2018 (elections),” he said.

In 2013, Zapu dragged Zec to court citing anomalies on the voters’ roll.

Dabengwa said there was no hope for free and fair elections.

He said financial challenges will likely make it impossible for Zec to prepare for the poll.

Zec has said it needs $274 million to successfully conduct the 2018 harmonised elections, according to a presentation by its chairperson Justice Rita Makarau to a parliamentary panel.

“Zec says it needs just under $300 million dollars and since Zec does not have these kinds of funds and have no choice but to use the old voters’ rolls. Zapu strongly feels that this is evidence that the 2018 elections will be manipulated as they were in 2013 and that the results will be fraudulent,” he said.

The Zapu leader cited recent anomalies noted in the Chiwundura by-elections as highlighted by the Election Resource Centre (ERC). The election observer group said almost a thousand people were registered more than once on the electoral roll that was used in last Saturday’s Chiwundura by-election.

Voters

ERC executive director Tawanda Chimhini wrote to Makarau bringing to her attention the peculiarities noted in the Chiwundura voters’ roll.

“There are 863 people registered more than once and appear as voters in different polling stations,” Chimhini’s letter said.

“Worst case scenario is that of Kenias Svova ID no 29-017146-A-07 of ZRP Senga Gweru who is registered at three different polling stations which are Senga Primary School B, Matongo Primary School A and Matongo Primary School B.”

ERC said there were 218 voters with ID numbers that have a suffix that does not conform to the National Registration Act.

“There are 132 voters with ID numbers that are invalid. There are 724 records that have exactly the same first name, surname, gender and date of birth but different ID numbers and in most cases different polling stations.

“For example, Rosemary Moyo is recorded in different wards with exactly the same name and date of birth with the only difference in the ID being the suffix as 67 and 03. Additionally, the two different polling stations for Rosemary Moyo are in the urban and rural part of the constituency,” ERC said in its letter.

Dabengwa said Zec should be given the $274 million by government to make sure that due diligence is done to ensure that the voters roll has no duplications, the BVR is fully functional and that the elections are run fairly without human rights violations.

“Dabengwa also called for an independent body to run the elections.

“If you look at the staffing at Zec, it’s people who are in security who take order to those manipulations, so we also recommend that the influence and the participation of the security should also be done away with so that we have proper elections that are run by an independent civilian administration,” he said.

Makarau was unreachable for comment but she told Parliament this week “Zec is confident that Treasury will avail the funding as it has funded all the past by-elections and the acquisition of the BVR kits.

“This is the funding that will enable Zec to procure all election material necessary and to pay all allowances necessary to ensure not only a successful voter registration exercise but a free and fair election in 2018.

Themba Mliswa must Go – Norton residents in demo

A united front consisting of disgruntled and fearless Norton residents from Zimbabwe’s two main political parties, the ruling ZANU PF and opposition MDC-T, demonstrated at the end of last week in a direct  protest against Hon Peter Temba Mliswa and went on to surrender petitioning one to the Minister of Local Government Hon. Saviour Kasukuwere.

The other to Hon. Speaker of the Parliament of Zimbabwe Jacob Mudenda demanding that the two take drastic and appropriate disciplinary measures to tame the notorious Member of Parliament for Norton who has gone bizack, demanding the total expulsion of Norton Town Council management and councillors on alleged claims of poor service delivery. However, residents have taken to the streets arguing that Mliswa was the cause behind poor service delivery by Norton Town Council as his undiplomatic and political incorrectness and interference were repeatedly making it very hard for Council to perform its bona-fide duties.

norton-demo
The petition read as follows and I quote

TO HONORABLE JACOB MUDENDA
“REF: PROTEST AND PETITION TO THE SPEAKER OF PARLIAMENT OVER TEMBA PETER MLISWA’S CONTINUED DISRUPTIONS OF NORTON TOWN COUNCIL SERVICE DELIVERY.

This letter serves to notify you,Hon Speaker of the Parliament of Zimbabwe, Hon Jacob Mudenda on Norton Resident’s protest and petition over TEMBA PETER MLISWA’s continued disruptions of Norton Town Council service delivery.

Mliswa is an agent and perpetrator of violence and his behavior has promoted social disharmony and he has failed to represent our interests and has subverted his role as legislator to that of oppressor.

He has totally failed as a parliamentarian or legislator to play the important role in the life of Norton constituency. Mliswa has not performed his three main functions which comprise of;
a) the making of new laws, changing existing laws and repealing laws which are no longer needed;
b) representing and articulating the views and wishes of the citizens in decision-making processes and
c) overseeing the activities of the executive so that as the Government you are accountable to the people.

Our petition is so that you as Minister can assist us achieve good governance which requires the existence of a strong, effective and efficient parliamentarian, duties which MrMliswa has repeatedly and dismally failed to discharge.

He has failed as a parliamentarian to play the crucial role in gauging, collating and presenting our views and needs as a people, articulating our expectations and aspirations in determining the national development agenda of our quasi-government of Norton.

Mliswa has not performed well his role of as oversight body, and has thus failed to help us residents identify problems and policy challenges that require attention. The MP has never assisted residents in overcoming bureaucratic inertia but has instead caused the grounding to a halt of service delivery in Norton, a sad development which has negatively affected the social, economic and cultural life of citizens, with women and children being adversely impacted.

In analyzing progress made so far by Mliswatowards good governance in Norton, residents have observed that the incapability of Mr.Mliswa to perform his functions efficiently and effectively has been our major concern in Norton. Indeed, Norton Town, due to Mliswa has turned out to be themost underdeveloped town in Zimbabwe as we have suffered from long months of dishonorable authoritarian and military dictatorship, being orchestrated by Mliswa.

Your cooperation in this regard is greatly appreciated.
Yours faithfully,
Norton Residents”

Efforts to reach both Mliswa, the residents and the Norton Town Council officials were however futile as the telecommunications network malfunctioned at the time the story went to bed. The demonstration was organised by Mr. Denford Ngadziore, the president of Norton Residents Forum.

Residents claim that Mliswa duped them as the electorate after promising them manna-from-heaven during last year’s Norton October by-election. He is also alleged to have vehemently castigated the President of Zimbabwe, His Excellence, Cde Robert Mugabe, the entire ZANU PF party and the Mr Morgan Tsvangirai, the President of the MDC-T, which is Zimbabwe’s main opposition party.

Mliswa is on borrowed parliamentary seat, which he fradulantly solicited from the unsuspecting camps of both the ruling ZANU PF and MDC-T parties. He is further alleged to have made known his intentions to challenge President Mugabe in the watershed election in 2018.

Mliswa is on a prodigal merry-go-round Christopher Columbus kind-of triangular voyage, after being sacked from ZANU PF due to his headstrong attitude. He was MP for a mere 16 months in rural Hurungwe constituency before diving head-on with residents of Norton at the October 22nd by-election social contract that was never honoured but violated.

The two petitions clearly show that the residents of Norton have a story to tell and a lesson learnt from hiring an independent candidate to play MP.

Jonathan Moyo has links to a foreign spy agency – Mnangagwa told Politburo

ZANU PF succession protagonists Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Higher Education minister Jonathan Moyo came eyeball to eyeball in a titanic battle for President Robert Mugabe’s attention as the ruling party’s politburo meeting turned into a political theatre on Wednesday.

Mnangagwa is reported to have told President Robert Mugabe and the Zanu-PF Politburo he has a report that links political foe, Prof Moyo to a foreign spy agency.

Mnangagwa is reported to have made the allegations at the latest Politburo meeting after Prof. Moyo had presented pictures as evidence while accusing Mnangagwa of capturing state institutions and using them in his attempt to succeed President Mugabe. Highly-placed sources said Moyo, who had initially threatened to present video evidence to back claims that Mnangagwa wanted to topple Mugabe, instead made a PowerPoint presentation with still pictures as he sought to nail the VP.

Jonathan Moyo

Mnangagwa, according to sources, discounted Moyo and asked Mugabe for an opportunity to expose Moyo “for the spy that you are”. He asked for time to make his own presentation and will likely present his evidence at the next Politburo meeting.

Moyo, sources said, also produced pictures showing former Zanu-PF Mashonaland Central youth chairperson Godfrey Tsenengamu, Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans’ Association chairman Christopher Mutsvangwa, party activist Energy Mutodi and Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander General Constantino Chiwenga claiming they were all supportive of Mnangagwa’s candidacy.

Another politburo source said: “Moyo claimed institutions such as the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission had been captured by Mnangagwa and his acolytes and were now being used against those opposed to his ‘successionist plot’. Moyo also raised the issue of the late former Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku, arguing the Vice-President had tried unsuccessfully to force him into early retirement.”

The politburo sources added Moyo was said to have accused Mnangagwa of funding demonstrations by pro-democracy groups as well as the opposition.

In response to the accusations, Mnangagwa reportedly mockingly “applauded” Moyo for the effort, but threw everything back at Mugabe. Mnangagwa told Moyo that he had not pitched up at Dinyane for the infamous 2004 Tsholotsho Declaration on the fateful day “because we are politically mature

Family of 4 escape death When police officers threw spikes at their Toyota Corolla

A family of four escaped death by a whisker this  morning, when some police officers allegedly from Highlands police station threw a spike at their Toyota Corolla along Churchill Drive near the University of Zimbabwe.

According to eyewitnesses, the law enforcement agents threw a spike at a Toyota Corolla which was travelling towards Belgravia shopping centre prompting the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

The car ramming into the security wall of the University of Zimbabwe before uprooting trees and landed on its wheels.

accident

Onlookers rushed to assist the four people who were trapped in the car.

Some people who witnessed the accident expressed concern with the behaviour of the police officers querying why they were not standing in a visible place.

The police officers who are allegedly from Highlands police used an unmarked car which was later deflated by angry passersby.

Law enforcement agents from Avondale police station attended to the scene of the accident leaving many people with reservations as to the authenticity of the police officers who threw the spike.

Contacted for comment, the Zimbabwe Republic Police national spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the incident saying the injured had been taken to hospital and she could not give more information as the matter is now under investigation.

The Ministry of Home Affairs is on record condemning the throwing of spikes at a moving vehicle.

Spikes should only be used in cases of extreme criminality and in such instances the spikes should be used as part of a barricade, not thrown.

Jah Signal’s real ghetto story

TIRARIRA inini ndini ndarira swaah…” is the opening line for most of his tracks. It has a childish ring to it, but that has not stopped the ditty from taking Zim dancehall by storm

We caught up with the man behind the line, Jah Signal, born Nicodemus Mutize.

At 21, Jah Signal – who says he started pursuing music in 2011 – leads a pack of Zim dancehall underlings spoiling for a fight with the big guns in the cut-throat industry.

“The music business started when I was still in high school,” said Jah Signal, “This was during my high school days at both Dzivarasekwa I High and Rock Mountain Christian College. It is there that I realised that music could be worth pursuing. That’s how the journey began.

“Initially I started by doing tracks inclined to gospel because the school I went to was a Christian college, and because of my Christian background too. However, with time I started finding it easier to express myself using dancehall.”

The chanter was soon to transform from a high school gospel-singing and free-styling lad to a recording studio artiste.

“One of my neighbours introduced me to a friend of his who was a producer. I started to visit various studios in Harare and surrounding areas, recording songs.

jah-signaljah-signalA few of those tracks trickled to kombi drivers and before I knew it there was a buzz about me in Kuwadzana 3 (in Harare) where I stay,” narrated Jah Signal.

The battle to grow bigger than Kuwadzana was only won last year.

“This was when I recorded on the Chillspot Records’ Stage Riddim. I did the track ‘Ndomuda’ and people started to get more interest in me.

From then on I had a number of collaborations with the likes of Tocky Vibes and Boom Beto, and those tracks among many others, propelled me to where I am today and I am truly grateful to the fans for their love and support.”

Life was never a walk in the park for Jah Signal and his nine siblings.

“Things were tough growing up. Life is still tough but music brings in a couple of extra cents, which has improved our lifestyle. I remember when my mother and I, to ensure that we had a meal on the table, would get used paper towels from hotels, straighten them out and remake paper rolls, and sell to people in our community.

“Though substandard they were a big sell because people preferred those to using newspapers as substitute for proper toilet paper.

“However, I have since stopped my mother from doing that as I cover for some of the expenses with the money I generate from my music.”

Jah Signal also explained his stage name.

“The name Jah Signal was influenced by two factors. Firstly, I really love Busy Signal’s style so I adopted the ‘Signal’ bit of my name from him. But also, there is the aspect of God up above. He sends the signals of life to me and these signals direct me to do what I do. As you might know, God is Jah.”

The youngster has performed on big stages both locally and regionally, performing with Jah Prayzah, Anthony B and Cassper Nyovest. This summer he has several gigs lined up, including in South Africa.

“I was also humbled to learn that my track ‘Rure Rure’ was on number four on the YFM reggae chart show last week, on a list topped by Mavado and Alkaline, and includes other hotshots such as Popcaan, Damian Marley and Vybz Kartel.”

Jah Signal is set to headline the City Sports Bar Jam Session on July 31, which has been dubbed “Zim Dancehall Future”, alongside the likes of Blot, Jah Child, Mad Warrior, Power Rasta, Muffah, Technic, T Man, Master H, Samtam and Silent Killer.

“I am looking forward to the month end gig and fans should come through to City Sports Bar and get a taste of my new material, which I am dropping this August on my debut album and, of course, not forgetting my current hits.

My life was in danger – Rev Eliot Chikwenjere

United Methodist Church Reverend Eliot Chikwenjere yesterday maintained he never wanted to kill the man thrown off the bonnet of his moving car when he was allegedly caught with his wife in the Central Business Centre.

Chikwenjere, who is standing accused of attempted murder, told the court during his evidence in-chief that it was the complainant who jumped on to the bonnet of his car before he even started moving.

Chikwenjere told the court that his Christian religion does not allow him to kill so there was no way he ever wanted to kill the complainant as he alleges.

He said he saw David Gwarazimba who appeared from nowhere standing in front of his car shouting that he had caught the man who is cheating with his wife.

“I saw the complainant standing in front of my car shouting that he had finally caught me and his wife and he was going to kill me.

“When he uttered the words, I saw death and in my eyes, a vision of one Oliver Tengwende killing innocent people in the 80s came to me and all I could see was death.

“When I looked at him I saw his face scary like that of a lion.

“Usowake hwaityisa seshumba and before I could do anything, I rushed to close my windows while fearing for my life,” he said.

Chikwenjere left the gallery in stitches when he jumped on the witness stand clinging on top of it while demonstrating how Gwarazimba was clinging on top of his car bonnet.

The complainant jumped onto the bonnet before I could do anything leading to his wife screaming and advising me to drive.

“My sixth sense told me that I was in danger leading me to start the car and drove while he was on the bonnet.

“I was driving between 5 and 10 kilometers per hour hoping that he would get down but he never did.

He added: “When I was driving along Kaguvi Street I stopped giving him time to get off from the car but he then stood up and kicked the windscreen of the car.

“Fearing for my life I then took off again but he continued striking”.

Chikwenjere told the court that during all the time the incident was happening, his mind was telling him to go to Milton Park Police Station. He also told the court that all the time Gwarazimba was holding on the bonnet of the car he was praying to God that he did not disembark.

Chikwenjere also told the court that wherever he stopped he hoped people would come to assist but no one did.

“If the court was there, it would understand the danger I was in on that day.”

He added that he was only relieved when he stopped at the intersection of Hebert Chitepo and Rekai Tangwena after the complainant had fallen.

Instead of calling the ambulance he said he decided to call his lawyer to come to where he was so that they could go to report the matter at Milton Police Station.

Popular wheel-spinner, DJ D Knife, has been dragged to the Harare Civil Court by his former lover who was seeking a peace order against him.

D Knife – real name Milton Nyabanga – was hauled to court by Charmaine Gwasa who wanted the popular Harare DJ to be stopped from interfering with her life.

The wheel-spinner who has played at a number of clubs in the capital had no problems with the application but demanded his clothes and ring from his former girlfriend.

He said she took the clothes and the ring from his house while they were still in love.

Charmaine-Gwasa-and-friendCharmaine-Gwasa-and-friend“Your Worship, I am not opposing her application but while we were still in love she would come to my house gradually, take my clothes and one day she took my ring.

She can have the clothes that I bought for her but the ones which she took from my house she has to return them,” he said.

In response, Gwasa said: “I thought we were in love that is why I took those clothes but I no longer have the clothes and the ring as well.

“I gave them out to some people and some of them I no longer remember them.

“As for the ring, I do not know where I dropped it.”

Presiding magistrate, Amanda Muridzo granted the order in Gwasa’s favour.

In addition, she ordered her to go and collect Nyabanga’s clothes and give him back

Mugabe helped Tsvangirai pay medical bills

Former prime minister Morgan Tsvangirai, who was diagnosed with cancer of the colon in April last year, told Voice of America’s Studio 7 that rumours that he would die soon were ‘fake news peddled by his rivals ahead of next year’s elections.

Rumours about the MDC-T leader’s health have been circulating on online publications and social media, including WhatsApp.

Small and Medium Enterprise minister Sithembiso Nyoni yesterday latched onto the rumour, telling Zanu-PF supporters in Mutare that he once travelled to South Africa with “the ailing leader.”

“I want to gossip, but don’t tell people what l will say,” Nyoni said.

“This happened recently when l boarded a plane going to South Africa. l met an old man struggling to walk with a stick we gave him, he was struggling to board the plane.”

He also had the wife we gave to him, l just looked and said who is this ailing man.

“The man was saying he does not have money to be treated but he was given the money by this party [Zanu-PF]. You see, President Robert Mugabe has got a heart, he always wants to help.”

Tsvangirai is married to Elizabeth Macheka, daughter of a Zanu-PF member Joseph Macheka, and has been frequenting South Africa for treatment.

Last year, Mugabe reportedly helped Tsvangirai to get money from government to pay his medical bills. Mugabe himself has been frequenting Singapore for treatment for an undisclosed ailment.

He has travelled to the Asian city state at least three times this year, with his last trip having taken place over a week ago.

Mugabe was forced to cancel two public engagements during the week he was receiving treatment in Singapore, which included a rally organised by Zanu-PF that eventually took place in Lupane last Friday.

MDC-T takes electoral reforms demo to Gweru

The Morgan Tsvangirai-led MDC youths are set to stage a demo in Gweru today against the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec)’s failure to implement electoral reforms.

This comes after the youths last week held a successful demonstration in the Harare CBD, though it ended up in violent clashes with the police,MDC youth assembly chairperson, Happymore Chidziva, said they are not going to rest until Zec implements the reforms.

“Every youth must register to vote. This time around people must not be worried, we want to promise our parents as youths that their vote will be protected, we are not going to allow Zanu-PF to do what they want with our votes,” he said.

Chidziva added that they were planning to stage the protests countrywide to register their displeasure with the Rita Makarau-led Zec.

This programme will not end in towns and cities. We are even going to rural areas. If Zanu-PF thinks that they can continue to abuse our parents in rural areas, they are dreaming. We are going to every corner of Zimbabwe to liberate our country from Zanu-PF dictatorship,” he said.

Demo
“We are also urging all unemployed youths to register to vote. The only solution to unemployment problem is do away with this animal called Zanu-PF. We are now determined to remove Mugabe and his corrupt system.  We can only achieve this through free and fair elections. We will do all we can to ensure that the people of Zimbabwe are truly liberated.”

In last week’s demo, clashes between the MDC youths and heavily-armed riot police caused chaos in central Harare and innocent civilians were left stranded, as the heavy-handed law enforcement agencies randomly fired teargas, while the youths burnt cardboard boxes to block police vehicles.

The violent clashes caused most shops along Nelson Mandela Avenue, Chinhoyi Street and Angwa Street to temporarily close, as tear gas filled the air – disrupting both traffic and business in the city centre.

Meanwhile, Zec has since gone full steam with campaigns to educate the public on the much-debated biometric voter registration exercise, as the eagerly anticipated national elections fast approach
