Friend speaks on Andile Mpisane and Sithelo Shozi’s 2nd child

Andile Mpisane apparently dumped his long-time girlfriend and baby-mama Sithelo Shozi after he questioned the paternity of their second child.

The publication has learnt that Mpisane has since taken back ownership of the luxurious BMW he bought Shozi just two months ago.

Mpisane, who is the youngest club chairperson in the Premier Soccer League, took many by surprise when he wed Tamia Louw last month – with the newlyweds said to be expecting their first child together.

According to a Mpisane family friend, Andile’s adoring mother, MaMkhize, who is known not to drink from the same cup as Shozi demanded that a paternity test be conducted on the then couple’s second child.

“She has always heard stories about Sithelo and her motives for dating her son,” according to the source. One of the gripes MaMkhize had with Shozi was the age gap between her and Mpisane.

Shozi is 27 years old, and she started dating Mpisane, 20, when he was apparently 17 years of age. This means that at the time she would have been 24 years old.

Squabbles over the paternity test, according to the source, led to Mpisane cutting off Shozi and abruptly getting engaged to Louw.

“Sithelo has no benefits anymore. MaMkhize is raising the child as her own.” According to a source close to Shozi, MaMkhize wanted her to sign a non-disclosure agreement but she stood her ground and refused.

Mpisane could not be reached for comment.

When contacted for comment, MaMkhize said: “The matter has nothing to do with me and I don’t want to get involved.”

Shozi declined to comment.

“MaMkhize can’t wait for her growing family, she loves her new daughter-in-law and spoils her rotten”, said the source.

Keeping to form, Mpisane wasted no time in getting his wife new wheels in the form of a new Range Rover.

Harare socialite, Daniella Allen and Nigerian business mogul Igho Ubiribo painted the town of Harare and social media streets green with their lavish lobola celebrations that were held on Saturday.

According to social media fanatics, the event has already been voted as the best traditional wedding so far in 2022 because of the “A-lister” guests, the theme, decoration, flashy cars and the cake.

Green was the main theme of the much-talked about “lobola celebrations” that definitely took all the limelight on social media. The couple that is based in the United States of America flew into the country three days before their lavish celebrations which were held in Harare.

The event was Nigerian-themed from the dressing to the buffet set up. What made the celebrations different from the rest was that above all, the event was graced by Nigerian superstar Davido who flew in, in his private jet together with his friends to attend the event.

The co-ordination of outfits was also superb. A fashion designer in her own right, Dani as Allen is popularly known, roped in the services of Yollanda Mubaiwa of Exquisite Events for the event’s co-ordination. The metre-long tier cake was baked by Mrs Micheals.Dani and Bride

Kick-starting the event, the bride walked the aisle accompanied by the groom’s mother who was celebrating her as per Nigerian culture. They were accompanied by two dancers who were dancing to the late Brenda Fassie’s song Nomakanjani.

Dani wore a Nigerian garment and according to a close source, it was one of the most expensive materials in the foreign land. As per culture, it is usually worn by the chief or the highest position in Nigeria.

As she made her way into the venue, she was showered by money by Davido as she danced with her husband. More people followed suit and soon the floor was filled with money.

The groom’s long-time friend, musician Davido said he was happy to be in Zimbabwe for the first time for a private function, not a concert.

“I call the groom Tiny because we grew up together and I’m happy for him that he has found Daniella. I wish them success and happiness, peace and a loving marriage,” said the Skelewu hit-maker.

At the end, guests were presented with gift packs that included a torch inscribed with the couple names, diaries, notepads and branded umbrellas as souvenirs.

Some of the local invited guests included Mike Chimombe, Jackie Ngarande, Pokello Nare, Tanya Chikuni, Michelle Chiyangwa, Pamela and Martin Hakunavanhu, Tazvi Mhaka and South Africa-based socialites Luminista and Trish Carmen among others.

Co-ordinator of the event, Caroline Mlambo said she was happy everything went according to plan. “We had a theme and planner instructions that we were following. We made sure that we stuck to the plan with no loopholes.Mike Chimombe and Igho

Guests were given the lobola cloth to design their own attire. I’m happy that the bride and groom’s wishes were fulfilled,” she said. To celebrate the union, an after party was held and it was strictly by invitation.

MDC founding member, former MP and ex-war detainee dies. He was 83. The MDC Alliance Bulawayo provincial spokesperson Swithern Chirowodza confirmed Khumalo’s death in an interview with Newzimbabwe.com.

MDC founder member and former MP for Mpopoma/Pelandaba, Jefret Bafana Khumalo, died Wednesday last week at his Riverside home in Bulawayo following a short illness. He said:

I confirm the death of one of our longest-serving elders in the party, Jefret Khumalo. His death was just sudden. As a party, we would like to convey our condolences to his family. If all things were equal, Khumalo was supposed to be declared a national hero because he fought for the liberation of this country.

The late Khumalo will be buried Tuesday in Bulawayo. He worked in the furniture-making industry where he was involved in trade unionism before joining politics.

During the liberation war, Khumalo and other youths used to supply freedom fighters with clothes and shoes which led to his imprisonment in 1973.

He was detained at Whawha Detention Camp in Gweru with his friends, Norma Zikhali, Sidney Malunga, and others. On his release from prison, Khumalo went to England to join his wife.

When he returned to Zimbabwe in 1981, he joined ZAPU and worked closely with the late Vice President John Nkomo, and Malunga.

Khumalo worked as a district education officer for Tsholotsho during the 1980s before joining the government as a labour officer at Mhlahlandlela government offices in Bulawayo.

He later left the government and joined Radar Metal as a labour officer. He joined the MDC when it was formed in 1999. In 2000, he was elected the party’s Mpopoma/Pelandaba constituency MP.

Mbudzi Roundabout Update: Motorists impatient as congestion intensifies

Mbudzi Roundabout Update: Motorists impatient as congestion intensifies. The government has announced plans to construct an interchange but, for motorists, authorities are taking long to address the issue amid reports that contractors are taking due diligence to avoid future safety problems.

Motorists are becoming impatient over the construction of an interchange at Mbudzi Roundabout as congestion is the order of the day.

In October this year, Transport Minister, Felix Mhona announced that the Mbudzi project will cost US$85 million which is US$8 million more than the cost of constructing Mount Edgecombe Interchange in Durban, South Africa, the biggest interchange in Africa.

Meanwhile, motorists are being warned that congestion is likely to worsen during construction even with the major effort now being done on the diversion roads.

Motorists say that although the deployment of police traffic officers at the worst times to control the crossing has been at times helpful, driving past the roundabout has become a nightmare for many.

Mbudzi roundabout is at the intersection of Simon Mazorodze, Chitungwiza and High Glen Roads that feed traffic from western Chitungwiza and many old and new suburbs into Harare city centre.

Simon Mazarodze Road is the main Harare-Masvingo highway which means that heavy long-distance haulage trucks are mixing with the urban traffic.

Mr Leeroy Chigogo of Glen Norah said one would take at least over two hours to negotiate the roundabout. Another motorist Mr Takudzwa Manyande said there was also a need to get rid of pirate taxis that load passengers near the roundabout as this was also fuelling congestion.

Mrs Charlene Mureverwi of Glen View said driving through the roundabout was now very difficult and something needed to be done to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.

The contractor is currently undertaking geotechnical engineering, which involves taking soil and rock samples to ascertain the strength of materials to be used during the foundation stages.

Works on detour roads are progressing with the demolition of illegal structures that encroached the roads continuing smoothly. Harare provincial roads engineer Arthurton Zindoga was quoted saying the geotechnical engineering process was the initial stage of the project.

Vic Falls hit by flash floods

Vic Falls hit by flash floods. The rains started falling on Friday morning until late afternoon before resuming on Saturday morning until evening. It was also raining Sunday.

Victoria Falls has been hit by flash floods following incessant rains that pounded the city since Friday destroying pre-cast walls, household property, gardens and washing away some roads.

The worst affected areas are ward nine especially around the shopping centre and near Vehicle Inspectorate Department Victoria Falls depot, ward 10 behind Mosi-oa-Tunya High School and ward eight around Esikhwahleni area.

The low-density area and central business district where hotels and lodges are were not affected. The Herald reports that there were no fatalities but some roads, especially near Truck Stop, and small bridges were damaged.

In some yards, water levels rose to above knee level resulting in pre-cast walls falling especially those without weep holes. Some water pipes were also left exposed due to massive soil erosion. Most roads in Mkhosana were impassable as they were flooded resulting in water flowing into yards.

Poor drainage has been blamed for worsening the situation as most parts of the city have no storm drains while the available ones are too shallow to contain massive run-off.

Residents could also be to blame judging by the amount of litter such as plastic bottles, plastic paper and other garbage that was washed down by run-off.

Scores of people lost household property such as beds, stoves, refrigerators and electrical gadgets as well as food that was soaked in water. Some residents had to drill holes through their house walls to redirect water that had flooded some rooms.

In Ward 10 there were over a dozen houses whose pre-cast concrete walls were destroyed. One of the affected residents, Mr Lizwe Moyo said water had risen close to two metres against the pre-cast wall in his yard before it gave in.

Residents have implored authorities to come up with an urgent solution to avoid a disaster. Victoria Falls Mayor Councillor Somveli Dlamini who visited the affected areas to assess the extent of the disaster said the worst affected areas are in wards 8, 10 and 11.

He said the council will sit and work out a solution suggesting that a long-term solution is the construction of a storm drain.

Report: Nearly 90 000 Zimbos deported from South Africa

Report: Nearly 90 000 Zimbos deported from South Africa. Peter Mutasa, former president of Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) says this development could not have happened had Zimbabwe labour unions, civic society groups and human rights activists’ warnings to South Africa about Zimbabwe’s economic and political crisis had not been ignored.

Over 89 000 Zimbabweans have been arrested and deported from South Africa for entering or staying in that country without proper documentation. Thousands of Zimbabweans flock into neighbouring South Africa and Botswana in search of jobs and better lives. Mutasa said:

We have been talking about these issues as labour, as human rights activists that SADC and AU have to take a progressive and practical position on Zimbabwe crisis, we have got a crisis. SADC has to resolve this crisis before it degenerates and now it has degenerated. So SADC, South Africa and other Africa countries have to agree that Zimbabwe has got crisis.

This problem has now caused humanitarian crisis it is not enough for South Africans to just push Zimbabweans back where they cannot get livelihoods and to where they can starve, 61 percent in here are food insecure so all those people are looking for food.

Political analyst Wurayayi Zembe says undocumented Zimbabweans flocking into South Africa is confirmation that the Emmerson Mnangagwa government has failed. He said:

That’s a symptom of the failure to govern ZANU PF government in Zimbabwe, it has been failing to provide Zimbabweans with jobs. Jobs are a basic need of Zimbabweans so that they can earn their legitimate lives. The Zimbabwe government has remained mum over this latest mass exodus of citizens.

Family basket of 6 rises to $72 967 per month. The CCZ said a family of six now requires ZWL$72 967 to meet their basic needs, up from ZWL$58 284 recorded in the month of November 2021.

The family basket for a low-income earner for a family of six increased by 25.19% in December 2021, from November 2021, the Consumer Council of Zimbabwe (CCZ) has said. CCZ said:

The family basket for a low-income earner for a family of six as measured by the Consumer Council of Zimbabwe increased from ZWL$58 284 recorded in the month of November 2021 to ZWL$72 967 indicating an increase of 25.19%. CCZ attributed the astronomical price increases partly to market speculation among other factors.

The current cost of living means that a family of six now requires US$363 using the current parallel market exchange rates to meet their monthly requirements. When using the official exchange rate that was last announced on 14 December 2021, the figure is a whopping US$672.

12 churches face demolition

12 churches face demolition. According to the latest council report, the churches have been issued with notices to rectify or demolish their illegal structures. The City of Bulawayo is set to demolish 12 church structures that are either derelict or have been illegally constructed.

If they fail to do so, the local authority will use its own resources to demolish the buildings, with the churches bearing the costs. The 12 churches are Zion Christian Church (Emganwini), The Living Gospel World Church (Emganwini), Assemblies of God Church (Tshabalala), Johanne Masowe (Nkulumane),

The Same God Apostles ((Pumula East), Holy Apostolic Church in Zion (Pelandaba), Gospel Preaching Ministry (Nkulumane), Potters House Christ Fellowship (Nkulumane), Apostolic Faith Mission of Zimbabwe (Nkulumane), St Lukes United Methodist Church (Nkulumane), Zaoga Church (Nkulumane) and New Birth Fellowship in Nkulumane.

The Bulawayo City Council (BCC) is not only targeting churches as there are 47 structures in total that were identified as being derelict with the owners given notices to rectify their structures.

Last year, the local authority identified illegal structures in the city, including churches and residential properties, and thereafter issued them with notices.

The City of Bulawayo has the authority to repossess such properties as guided by the Titles Registration and Derelict Lands Act (Chapter 20:20).

The Act states: Persons having claim on derelict land may apply to High Court or other public body upon immovable property in Zimbabwe and such property is abandoned, deserted, derelict, and the owner thereof cannot be found, it shall be lawful for the person or body claiming such rate or assessment to apply to the High Court, stating the amount claimed to be due and the grounds applying for relief under this Act.

Gonarezhou National Park to receive US$1 million annual for 15 years

Gonarezhou National Park to receive US$1 million annual for 15 years. The money, which will extend for at least 15 years, will help pay for ranger patrols, equipment maintenance and other everyday needs, the park’s partner, the Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZS), told AFP by email.

One of Zimbabwe’s biggest wildlife reserves is to receive US$1 million annually from a brand-new fund to help sustain its operations and fight poaching, German conservationists said on Wednesday.

Zimbabwe’s second largest reserve, the Gonarezhou National Park covers 5,000 square kilometres in the country’s remote southeast.

It is home to at least 11,000 elephants — its name means “the place of the elephant” in the local ChiShona language — as well as to black rhinos, whose numbers are kept secret for security reasons.

The money will come from the Legacy Landscapes Fund (LLF), a brand-new international initiative that provides funds to help wildlife havens in poor countries.

“The idea of the Legacy Landscapes Fund is to provide a reliable funding for basic operations in a protected area,” said the FZS’s head of communications, Dagmar Andres-Bruemmer.

The donation to Gonarezhou is “funding to keep the lights on in difficult times, so to say,” she said in response to questions emailed by AFP. National parks that depend on tourism income have suffered during the coronavirus pandemic, she noted.

“In some parks in Africa, even basic work such as ranger patrols could not be done due to budget cuts. So poaching picked up significantly.”

The LLF, set up in 2021, is a public-private fund established as a charity under German law to help close the funding gap for biodiversity conservation.

Participants include the French and German governments, Germany’s KfW Development Bank, France’s Agence Francaise de Developpement (AFD), the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

“Protected and wild areas remain the mainstay of biodiversity conservation and our best tool at mitigating climate change across the globe,” said Hugo Van der Westhuizen, director of Gonarezhou Conservation Trust.

“Managing these areas effectively requires long-term commitment in funding.”

ZEC apologises for failing to provide adequate and accessible registration centres

ZEC apologises for failing to provide adequate and accessible registration centres. The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) Sunday admitted that it had deprived thousands of prospective first-time voters an opportunity to participate in the upcoming by-elections after it failed to provide adequate and accessible registration centres throughout the country.

ZEC has already closed the voters’ roll for the by-elections slated for March 26 this year.

ZEC spokesperson Joyce Kazembe Sunday told NewsDay that the electoral management body had realised that several people failed to register to vote due to the inaccessibility of its 72 district centres.

She said as the country prepared for the 2023 general elections, ZEC would roll out 9 000 biometric voter registration kits to ensure that people travel short distances to registration centres. Kazembe said:

We know that there are some who stay far from the district offices who may not be able to easily access the registration centres, but for now, we are abiding by the law. But we are sorry. We apologise.

However, the registration process is still ongoing for other elections other than the by-elections. We have 9 000 biometric voters’ registration kits that we will roll out throughout the country to ensure complete accessibility of the registration service.

But civic society groups and rights lawyers accused ZEC of deliberately minimising access to the voter registration centres to frustrate potential first-time voters being mobilised by various groups.

Constitutional lawyer Lovemore Madhuku said some provisions of the Electoral Act also deprived a significant number of people of the opportunity to vote; hence the need to amend the legislation. He added:

The Act states that the voters’ roll closes when the local authority vacancy arises, but would the electorate know that very well? In this election, an individual may be able to vote for the National Assembly member, but fail to vote for the councillor. There are some citizens who develop the interest to vote only when there is a proclamation.

Every reasonable democracy allows them to vote. There is also a need for training of civic society on the key constitutional dictates of the electoral process so that they provide the necessary essential information to the people.

The electoral management body recently attracted the wrath of the public after it gave two different figures regarding the number of first-time voters it registered last year.

Initially, it said only 2 000 had registered as first-time voters throughout the year, but later revised the figure to 2 951 and both were lower than 9 000 which the Project Vote 263, a local civic group claimed to have assisted to register.

ZEC was also criticised by civic groups after it initially indicated that 22 000 deceased voters would be removed from the voters’ roll, before bumping up the figure to 35 085.

Govt takes over rehabilitation of roads in major Urban Areas

Govt takes over rehabilitation of roads in major Urban Areas. Among the targeted roads is Maunganidze Road that links at least six suburbs in Kwekwe which had become an eyesore. The central government has taken over the rehabilitation of roads in major urban areas in order to speed up the process.

Residents applauded the move saying the refurbishment of roads in the Midlands city was critical, adding that more roads should be included in the government plan.

Another targeted road is the 20km stretch linking Zvishavane and Mabasa, while Bhinya Road in Nyanga that links it with Mutoko is also set for rehabilitation. Speaking in Kwekwe during a tour of various road rehabilitation projects last Thursday, Mhona said:

We are here because we are following the footsteps of our leader President Emmerson Mnangagwa that we must approach the grassroots and hear their concerns so that we deal with them immediately and that is what we are doing.

This is not the day and age to have such substandard roads. We are going to blacklist all those contractors who are not doing their work in the manner desired by the second republic. There is no time for time wasters.

Mhona was accompanied by officials from the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA) during the tour. ZINARA board chairperson George Manyaya said they were ready to disburse additional funds for road rehabilitation projects. Manyaya said:

All the authorities must plan and implement road rehabilitation as funds for such were readily available. As early as the first week of the year, we had already sent all road authorities the figures we will allot them this year, and this is the time for them to plan, implement and prioritise their projects.

The government is also rehabilitating Seke Road under the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme.

Zimbabwean teenager Isaac Mabaya makes it to Liverpool FC bench

Zimbabwean teenager Isaac Mabaya makes it to Liverpool FC bench. Virgil van Dijk captained the side, with Andy Robertson, Fabinho, Ibrahima Konate, Curtis Jones and Caoimhin Kelleher all fit to start, along with Roberto Firmino, Kostas Tsimikas and Takumi Minamino on the bench.

Liverpool’s matchday squad for the FA Cup third-round clash with Shrewsbury saw youngsters Melkamu Frauendorf and Isaac Mabaya involved for the first time.

But there are also first-ever starts under Klopp for Max Woltman and Elijah Dixon-Bonner, while there are a host of youngsters among the substitutes.

Joining the ever so slightly more experienced James Norris and James Balagizi are Frauendorf and Mabaya. Isaac Mabaya, 17, who plays in the right-back, and central midfield positions was an unused substitute as the Reds won 4-1 at Anfield.

Born in Preston with Zimbabwean heritage, Mabaya joined Liverpool’s youth ranks as a six-year-old, and due to injury problems his progress to the fringes of the first team is still in its infancy.

But having stepped up from the U16s to the U18s last season, the 17-year-old has been making his mark under Bridge-Wilkinson this time around.

Though he is a natural midfielder, Mabaya has been used as a right-back on a number of occasions this season, and his ability to drive past players with pace and power has made him a standout.

It is this versatility that has seen Vitor Matos recommend Mabaya to Klopp, with both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Neco Williams ruled out for the FA Cup tie. Mabaya signed his first professional contract with the club in September and is tipped for big things in the years ahead.

More villagers being evicted by Granite Mining companies

More villagers being evicted by Granite Mining companies. Every day more than 60 trucks take granite for export, along the rough road through Nyamakope village in the district of Mutoko. Quarrying has been happening there since the 1980s.

Mutoko villagers are being evicted and relocated by granite rocks mining companies while some villagers are living in homes damaged by blasts and are unable to farm polluted land.

The shiny Mutoko stone is a popular material for tombstones. An extension to the Danish royal library in Copenhagen, known as the Black Diamond, is clad in Mutoko granite.

Now 50 families in the village have been told by a Chinese mining company that they will have to leave their homes and land. People in four other villages in the district fear they will also lose their ancestral lands.

Two families, including an 82-year-old villager and his wife, have already been relocated by Jinding mining company, which wants to build a polishing plant. One villager told the Guardian:

The 82-year-old man collapsed when he heard the news because he never anticipated it. He was later resuscitated at the hospital. This is how bad things are here.

The man was told his house was within the area licensed to the mining company by the government. Zimbabwe’s Communal Areas Act gives the president power to decide the use of an area that makes up 40% of the country’s land, home to about 70% of the population.

Two other families were given $2 500 (£1 840) to rebuild their homes, but community leaders say this is insufficient. One villager said:

There is uncertainty around this village. Right now, we do not have anyone willing to help us because our councillor does not want to help us. Anyone who dares to speak out is threatened. Whether they remove us or not, we are already scared to speak out.

The 40-year-old father of four fears losing five hectares of land, his only source of income. He said villagers should have the right to reject the investors from entering our community.

Richard Ncube, a legal officer at Zimbabwe Environmental Law Association (ZELA), says people in Mutoko were “extremely worried” about evictions. He said:

The major challenge is they are living in the dark, and they are not sure what is going to happen.

We have gathered that most of the communities [in Mutoko] are afraid to come forward and take these matters to court due to intimidation and fear of being victimised.

Attempts to challenge the mining companies elsewhere in Zimbabwe have had mixed results. Last week, the High Court dismissed a court application by villagers from Chilonga, Chiredzi in Zvishavane who were challenging their impending eviction and Zimbabwe’s Communal Areas Act.

Chaos rock new ZANU PF Mash West Province joint Council meeting

Chaos rock new ZANU PF Mash West Province joint Council meeting. The meeting was meant to officially hand over the reins of power to newly-elected chairpersons of the three-party organs voted during recent elections that were characterised by rigging allegations.

Violence rocked the new ZANU PF provincial joint council of the main wing, women’s and youth leagues’ inaugural meeting held in Chinhoyi Saturday.

The Indaba held at Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) gym hall started off later than scheduled before violence broke out just as proceedings were about to start.

This was after Mashonaland West Provincial Minister, Mary Mliswa-Chikoka won the chairmanship had instructed party security and police officers to allow only listed “winners” from the recent elections and bar the rest of party members.

Timothy Masviba from Chegutu district, who later on had his car tyres deflated by opponents, sparked the chaos insisting all participants of the polls were eligible to attend the meeting.

Chaos ensued for close to 20 minutes as security details struggled to fend off resistance from Masviba and other members who wanted to force through into the venue.

Mliswa-Chikoka had to personally intervene to cool down tempers after it became apparent the meeting would not proceed and ordered police to close the door.

The meeting went ahead amid numerous complaints about the list of winners, the highlight being an objection by Agriculture Deputy Minister Vangelis Haritatos questioning the ‘ghost’ identity of one Jessie Banda, who was listed as having won in Muzvezve constituency. Haritatos said:

With all due respect, on the list of winners that you have just read out, there is a character called Jessie Banda who is said to have won in Muzvezve. We don’t know a person called Jessie Banda and where they come from. We recently convened a meeting of chairpersons from Muzvezve and no one said they knew this Jessie Banda, we are baffled where that name came from, it needs to be replaced by someone identifiable we know won in the elections.

The chaos continued during the allocation of other posts that constitute the provincial executive membership, with Mliswa-Chikoka taking the flak for trying to impose her preferred candidates. The meeting ended late at night way after some members had left.

Lusaka Mayor declares war on illegal Zimbabwean businesses

Lusaka Mayor declares war on illegal Zimbabwean businesses. Lusaka Mayor Chilando Chitangala has declared war on more than 3,000 foreigners are trading in Lusaka Central Business District, most of whom she said are Zimbabweans and other foreigners riding on fake Zambian names to cover up their stay in the neighbouring country.

The Patriotic Front-PF politician warned that the Lusaka council in collaboration with the Immigration department will soon remove the foreigners from the city in order to restore sanity

The statements by Chitangula come as nearly 200 000 Zimbabweans are also under the cosh across the Limpopo where their stay on special exemption permits is on the line, with just under 12 months left to regularise their stay or face being deported.

Speaking when she featured on Hot FM’s Breakfast show yesterday, Ms Chitangala said most of the foreigners are even using fake Zambian names to conceal their real identities and some of them sleep at Intercity Terminus thereby causing congestion at the station.

She said that while most of the foreigners who hail from Zimbabwe, a good number are from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Tanzania.

“They sell various goods such as second-hand clothes, biscuits, alcohol, plaiting hair among others. “We have gathered that most of them do not have valid documents to trade and live in Zambia and have even applied for market stalls at City market,” she said.

Reacting to her comments, some readers on the Lusaka Times social platform expressed regret over her statements which they said could inflame xenophobia which has so far been unheard of in Zambia.

Others alleged that she was raising the issue to divert attention from her Council colleagues, most of whom are from the ruling UPND and are believed to be angling to push her out.

AFCON Finals: Warriors first XI vs Senegal

AFCON Finals: Warriors first XI vs Senegal. The Warriors XI for the 2021Afcon Group B encounter against Senegal has been confirmed. AFTER all the boardroom squabbles that threatened Zimbabwe’s participation at this year’s edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals that kicked off in Yaoundé yesterday, the Warriors will begin yet another campaign when they face off with Senegal in their opening Group B match, hoping to cruise to the group stage.

Kick-off is 3pm Zimbabwe time at the Bafoussam Omnisport Stadium.

The Warriors risked missing out on the tournament in Cameroon after Fédération Internationale de Football Association (Fifa) threatened to ban Zimbabwe if the elected Zifa executive committee failed to regain control of the sport from the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) by January 3.

This did not happen, but Zimbabwe has been allowed to participate. Warriors coach Norman Mapeza said his side was not affected by the off-field sideshows and was looking forward to seeing his boys cause a major upset against the Lions of Terranga.

Speaking after the team’s final preparation at the match venue yesterday, Mapeza said: “We are done with our final preparation. We were working on the set pieces. We have been doing a lot of analysis on the Senegal team and I’m more than happy with what I have seen. The guys are raring to go. It’s all about mental strengths and that is what I have been telling the boys.”

On paper, Senegal are favourites to win, not this match, but the tournament. But Mapeza believes reputation counts for nothing.

“Senegal is one of the top-ranked teams in Africa but if we are going to go out there with that in mind, then it will be a wrong mindset. It’s a game of football, so like I said we just have to go out there with a positive mind that we can match them. Any result in football is achievable, so we have to go with the right mindset and a positive mind.”

The Senegalese camp has been hit with COVID-19 and injuries. Only 16 players took part in their final preparation for this afternoon’s match.

The runners-up at the 2019 edition of the tournament will be without Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly after both players tested positive for coronavirus yesterday.

Warriors Line Up

Striker Famara Diedhiou has also gone into isolation.

Kick-off is at 3 pm CAT (Zim/SA).

Warriors XI: P. Mhari, T. Chimwemwe, O. Bhasera, G. Takwara, T. Hadebe, K. Madzongwe, I. Wadi, K. Benyu, K. Musona (c), B. Kangwa, P. Dube.
