An eye for an eye: kill him like he killed my son

An eye for an eye: kill him like he killed my son. An eye for an eye! The 35-year-old was allegedly killed by his friend at Greenfield near Kanana in Hammanskraal, north of Tshwane, after an argument.

This is the wish of Welheminah Chabalala (55), whose son was brutally murdered on New Year’s Day. Welheminah said she still struggles to sleep peacefully after she saw the badly burnt body of her son, Jika, who was stabbed before he was set alight.

Speaking to Daily Sun, Welheminah said those who witnessed the murder said the killer had an argument with her son before stabbing him and dragging him to his place where he set him alight.

“On 1 January, two people came to my house at about 9pm and told me to come with them. They said there was a problem with my son. When we got to the scene, people had already gathered including the police and firemen. Unfortunately, my son had already died. I asked to see him before he could be taken to the mortuary and I couldn’t believe what I saw. He was stabbed in the neck and was badly burnt,” she said.

Welheminah said the pain she was feeling was unbearable. “This monster shouldn’t have killed my son the way he did. It’s clear he wanted him dead. The police must arrest this man. He deserves to die the same way my son did so that he feels the pain,” she said.

Welheminah said her son was a good person who always helped out whenever he was asked. “He didn’t deserve to die the way he did,” she said. Jika’s uncle, Johannes Hlongwane (46), said what happened to his nephew was unforgivable.

“We know people get killed, but the manner in which my nephew died really traumatised us,” he said. Sergeant Herman Moremi of Temba Police Station said the police were investigating a case of murder.

“The suspect stabbed the deceased to death before setting the shack alight. No arrest has been made as the suspect is still on the run,” said Moremi.

Strange but true: Hairy tokoloshe wants me to go to church

Strange but true: Hairy tokoloshe wants me to go to church. AND IT’S ALL BECAUSE A TOKOLOSHE AND OTHER EVIL SPIRITS WANT HIM TO GO TO CHURCH AND WORK FOR GOD.

The man thought he would be living his dream after he graduated as a professional nurse. But instead, his life has now been turned upside down.

However, the 36-year-old from Daveyton in Ekurhuleni believes going to church would detach him from his ancestors and the traditions he grew up observing.

The man, who is his family’s breadwinner, told Daily Sun he has been a nurse for more than 10 years. The evil spirits allegedly started torturing him in January last year.

“These spirits torture me to the extent I miss work because I wake up late. I have already received many written warnings for late coming,” he said. The man said that the evil spirits, which he thinks is a tokoloshe, strangle him at night.

“The thing with charismatic churches is they don’t mix amadlozi and God. I grew up under amadlozi and now I have to do something I don’t believe in.

“Some of these churches call our ancestors demons and I cannot turn my back on them because they are protecting me. “Yes, I need help. But being separated from them is a problem. “I’m just caught between a rock and a hard place,” he said.

He said he turned to drinking to ease his pain as he cannot find the solution to his problem. And these spirits are against this.

“They want me to stop drinking and smoking and live a clean life. “People who don’t understand what I’m going through judge me and think I’m crazy,” he said.

The man said his family encouraged him to seek help from izangoma as nobody in the family has ever attended a bazalwane church.

“I grew up appeasing my ancestors and have never gone to church. This is very difficult for me because it’s tormenting me and not my family.

“It even led to his girlfriend dumping him. I went to a sangoma, who told me a pastor wants me in his church and wants to use me to get rich,” he told the People’s Paper.

Gogo Magotweni Khoza said the man has to thwasa and he could mix the Bible and amadlozi.

“If he doesn’t do that, his life is going to get worse and his ancestors may even bring his enemies closer to him because he doesn’t want to answer their calling.

“Maybe people he says want to turn him into a zombie are being sent by his ancestors to spite him because he doesn’t want to thwasa,” said Khoza.

Woman arrested for offering her daughters and nieces to terrorists for s.e.xual pleasure. Maryam Abubakar, a housewife was arrested on December 21, 2021 and confessed to have been in the business of luring women, including her own daughters and nieces, to the terrorists for s.e.xual pleasure.

KADUNA STATE-(MaraviPost)-The Intelligence Response Team (IRT), a special Police unit fighting kidnapping, has arrested a woman who allegedly supplies women to terrorists at Galadimawa forest, Giwa Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State.

Maryam said her clients were paying her N20,000 and that the women were being ferried to the forest on motorbikes. Also arrested was a girl named Fatima Jibril, who, in connivance with her boyfriend, Muslim Abubakar, both residents of the Sakadadi area in Sabon Gari, had also been supplying women to the terrorists.

The syndicate was exposed when the girls they had earlier procured for the criminals in the forest could not return.

Another woman, Jummai Ibrahim, was arrested on the suspicion that she had been engaging in an affair with the terrorists’ kingpin in the forest. Some of the women said they had passed the night only once with the terrorists.

One of them said the terrorists were living alongside their wives, only that they are hosted at different locations separate from their families and that they always inseparable from their guns round the clock, and they were stockpiled with foodies.

The arrested women were, however, remorseful for being in romance with the terrorists in the forest.

Most of the women offering s.e.x to the terrorists for money confirmed that they at least had Secondary School education while some were making efforts to go to higher institutions.

Pearl Modiadie speaks on her new acting role

TV and radio personality Pearl Modiadie says her flexible schedule has allowed her to fully focus and pursue her acting career.

Speaking ahead of the premier of rom-com Entangled on Friday night where she plays her first supporting lead role since she started acting, Modiadie said: “I’ve always tapped into different facets of the entertainment industry including working behind the scenes as a producer on the talk show, Zaziwa, while I was still hosting it,” the multi-hyphenate media personality says.

“Acting has also always been a love that I pursued, having had supporting stints on Generations, Scandal! and Rhythm City. My radio schedule didn’t allow time for me to fully pursue it so now that I am no longer a radio broadcaster, I am making time to fully immerse myself in the acting world.”

Modiadie is set to play the role of a “shrewd materialist” woman called Andiswa on the show that will air on DStv’s 1Magic.

Other actors include Vuyo Dabula, Phuthi Khomo and Vuyo Ngcukana.

Since hanging her MetroFM microphone early last year, Modiadie is no stranger to the acting industry. She says she relates to Andiswa because she knows what it’s like to go to the ends of the world in order to try to make something work.

“I sent a few self-tape auditions for different roles in November last year and in the end I was called to play Andiswa Makeba, we then started shooting in December. It’s been quite an experience and I’ve had the honour of working alongside incredible people under Burnt Onion which has produced amazing shows in the country,” she explains.

“Andiswa is a shrewd materialist woman who runs a tight ship around her husband and kids. She desperately wants to keep her family together no matter what it takes. She’s always about keeping up appearances and doesn’t want people to actually see the real her and the actual truth about her real life.

“I relate to her passion, determination and nurturing side,” Modiadie expresses.

The comedy series’ storyline is quite funny and complex.

It sees a successful woman named Sharon (Khomo), sets to wed her partner Sizwe (Ngcukana), but her ex-boyfriend Julius (Dabula) comes back in her life, leading things to take a complete 360º turn for the couple.

With her ex-lover back into the picture, Sharon consults her friends and a therapist about the dilemma of having her heart split for two men.

The drama then continues exploring modern-day relationships, humour, masculinity and human emotions.

“I play alongside Senzo Radebe who plays my husband Reggie and he’s such an incredible actor who’s also really funny off-screen. I think the best moments have to be the off camera conversations and gossip we have about our characters. We often are in awe of the decisions they make and the things they say,” Modiadie quips.

While the countdown to the premiere of the rom com, Modiadie gave a teaser of one of her funny scene on set being the wedding scene where Sharon gets married and at the reception, her best friend Zenani (Moliehi Didie Makobane) gives a very entertaining speech.

“It’s an all-round incredible show with complex characters that I think people are going to enjoy.”

AFCON Finals analysis: 97th minute penalty sink Zimbabwe Warriors

AFCON Finals analysis: 97th minute penalty sink Zimbabwe Warriors. Senegal 1 – 0 Zimbabwe. They were playing in their first match in Group B of the African Cup of Nations Monday.

AN injury-time penalty by Liverpool star Sadio Mane denied the Warriors a famous point against Africa’s top-ranked nation after they succumbed to a morale-sapping defeat against Senegal.

After gallantly keeping the star-studded Senegalese side at bay for 90 minutes and four minutes of injury time, the Warriors appeared on course for a famous draw against one of the pre-tournament favourites at the Stade Kouekong in the Cameroonian city of Bafoussam.

However, all their hard work was undone on the stroke of full-time when Kelvin Madzongwe handled the ball inside the box resulting in Senegal being awarded a spot-kick right.

The mistake allowed Mane, who had cut a lone figure for long periods in the match after wasting a couple of good chances in the first half, to step up and send Petros Mhari the wrong way.

The penalty was a cruel finish to the match for the Warriors and particularly for Mhari, who appeared to have done everything to win the man-of-the-match award after a brilliant performance in front of the goal.

Mhari was impressive in the first half where he almost single-handedly kept the Warriors in the match. The Warriors got off to a rather jittery start, playing second fiddle to Senegal, who dominated possession and created better clear-cut opportunities.

Mane came close to opening the scoring with a trademark bust into the box from the left, but his low, somewhat scuffed shot was well saved by Mhari. Earlier Bayern Munich star Bouna Sarr had almost opened the scoring with a long-range from outside the box

Zimbabwe had to wait until the 20th minute to get their first shot with skipper Knowledge Musona’s long-range shot not troubling the goalkeeper. Saar, however, almost scored from the very next move with his shot from an acute angle narrowly missing the inside of Mhari’s left post.

Zimbabwe, however, grew in confidence towards the end of the match and had a good opportunity to score when they were awarded a free-kick just outside the Senegal box, but they failed to utilise the chance when Musona his chipped effort went over the bar.

After a jittery opening 30 minutes, Zimbabwe started to find their feet towards the end of the opening half with both Kundai Benyu and Bruce Kangwa creating good opportunities before the break.

Just like the first half Senegal started strongly and almost broke the deadlock when Pape Abou Cisserises headed wide after rising to meet a cross from a corner kick.

Mhari was again the hero, producing a brilliant save to cut off a dangerous low cross that would have left Mane with a tap in after a counter-attacking move.

AFCOB Group B Standings

Zimbabwe could have Zimbabwe had a golden opportunity in the 85th minute when Wadi directed Musona’s cross from a free-kick straight at the Senegal goalkeeper. With a precious point seemingly in sight for the Warriors, they conceded a penalty in injury time.

75-year-old man fatally assaulted in witchcraft row. Hakufiwi Musiiwa was attacked at around 5am, allegedly by Norman Mutakayi (36) who wanted to force his uncle to consult a prophet.

A 75-year-old Zaka man was fatally assaulted by his nephew early Sunday morning following an altercation over alleged witchcraft, as violent deaths continue to increase countrywide.

Police said when Musiiwa refused, Mutakayi attacked him by striking his ribs, hands and legs with a wooden log and he sustained serious injuries. He later died after being forced to walk for about 10km.

Mutakayi has since gone into hiding and police have asked anyone with information on his whereabouts to tell their nearest police station.

Violent deaths have been on the increase countrywide and recently national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi urged the public to respect the sanctity of human life.

Recently, police in Harare were investigating circumstances surrounding the death of Terence Dondo of St Mary’s Chitungwiza.

Dondo, who was a bar attendant, was 28 years old. His body was recently found lying lifeless on a gravel road near Huruyadzo Shops, Chitungwiza, with some substances on the mouth and nose.

In a related suspected murder case, police were appealing for information surrounding the death of Mberikwazvo Bopoto (43) of Rockview East, Chitungwiza, who was reported missing on Christmas Day and later found dead the following day near a well along Hunyani River, Manyame Park in Chitungwiza.

The victim was bleeding from the nose and had a bruise on the back of the head. Police in Norton were also investigating the circumstances surrounding the violent death of a woman whose body was found along the rail line near Family 24, with a deep cut on the head and blood stains all over the body.

Opinion: Contractors must face strict accountability

$

Opinion: Contractors must face strict accountability. Fairly obviously, the Government likes to spread the work around where possible to local businesses near where the work is required so as to spread the benefits of Government spending.

One of the issues that is coming up with the dramatic expansion in Government capital spending is how to select the contractors for the many new projects, with the odd dud apparently making it through the vetting and tender process.

This allows new firms to bid so Government business is not restricted to an inner circle who might think they have the right to split the work up between themselves.

But problems can arise. A new company, although properly equipped, paying taxes and having all the other requirements to make it to the potential procurement list, might not have the full expertise or might be willing to take a chance.

The same applies to local businesses in some areas who fail when they are given a chance. Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister Felix Mhona, whose ministry hires a lot of contractors because of the central role it plays in development, has made it clear that he is not interested in giving second chances.

If you foul up you are off the Government list of acceptable contractors, regardless of who you are or the other social benefits that might arise from cutting you some slack.

Minister Mhona simply wants a first class job done, and does not appear particularly fussed who is doing that first class work, just so long as the Second Republic gets value for the very large sums now being spent through his Ministry.

The minister was commenting after looking at some recently repaired roads in and around Kwekwe, work that was ordered and paid for under the Emergency Roads Rehabilitation Programme Phase 2, the major undertaking to get at least the major roads across Zimbabwe back into usable shape.

Some of the repairs, and in several cases the complete reconstruction, of roads has been first class meeting a lot of exacting standards.

Motorists and transport operators are happy that they no longer have to crawl, or replace their suspensions fairly frequently. But when the potholes reappear soon after the first few falls of rain, or a few months after the repairs were finished, obviously they were not done properly.

Many people seem to think that repairing a road simply involves filling the potholes and then putting a patch of bitumen on top. Sometimes they are right, but not often.

A road, especially a major road, is far more than a layer of sealer on top of a strip of ground. The top layer of bitumen mixed with carefully-sized stones, the macadam layer, is just that, the icing on top of the cake.

The main part of any road is the roadbed, usually built up in layers of stone, gravel and clay. The top layer just seals the surface, preventing the road from being eroded by storm water, and provides a hard surface, to make driving easier.

Cracks appear, and some develop into potholes. Many of these potholes and similar damage cannot just be filled with a tipper of clay soil.

They need to be carefully dug out, that is the bit of road around them needs to be dug out as well, and then the resulting hole carefully refilled with the compacted layers of stone, gravel and clay, to make the filled area indistinguishable from the original roadbed that it now forms part of. Once all that is done you can reseal with a patch.

Sometimes there might be a section of road where the original roadbed has collapsed. This happens and the repair then involves digging out what was there and building anew, sometimes with design improvements to make sure the new section of road bed does not have the faults of the older bed.

This can involve upgrading the road drainage or deepening the section of the roadbed. Even where the road being repaired was properly designed and built for the traffic, repairs involve some careful investigation and probably as much digging as filling.

Winning a tender by planning on simplifying some of this work is not the best business move. Any company tendering needs to examine the physical road first before working out the costs and then submitting a bid.

At times a road cannot be repaired, it must be rebuilt. This was the case with a large chunk of Seke Road in Harare for example, although the winning contractor did notice that some of the required extra depth of roadbed could be won by reusing the stone in the eroded and broken-up surface layers, crushing and compacting this layer to add to the roadbed before putting on a new surface.

Just because there have been the odd duds, the Government should not abandon its policy of spreading the work around, but it perhaps needs to have more detailed tender documents, carefully listing what is required and needing to have bidders explain, in detail, how they plan to meet those requirements.

At the same time contracts need to be drawn up very carefully, with the standards and the tests set, along with the clauses that require substandard work to be redone properly.

In the private sector, the final payment in a system where progress payments are made is often delayed until everything pans out properly. Since that final payment is usually the profit, the contractor can cope with a delay since the progress payments have paid for the materials and the labour used.

There will be some contractors who have never done business before for the Government whose work stands up to the strict scrutiny required, and these contractors can now be kept on another list, the one where their next bid will at least be carefully read since the Government’s technical teams now know they can do the work.

Report: NetOne grows subscriber base. This was contained in statistics released by the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe Sector Performance Report for the 3rd quarter in 2021.

NetOne has increased its mobile subscription base by at least 500 000, figures from the regulatory authority reveal. The Abridged Sector Performance Report by the regulating authority revealed a 3,4 percent increase to 13 935 233 as at 30 September, from 13 481 527 recorded as at 30 June 2021.

The mobile penetration rate increased by 2.2 percent to reach 93,5 percent in the third quarter from 91,3 percent recorded in the second quarter of 2021.

In a statement yesterday NetOne said this was part of their thrust to positively contribute towards Vision 2030, making Zimbabwe a middle-class-economy, they have taken a deliberate move to increase its subscriber base.

“Further this goal is in alignment with the National Development Strategy One, to digitalise the economy and facilitate access to ICT’s at village level.

“ICTs are at the heart of development of the Zimbabwean economy and as such we are directing all our efforts towards connecting the unconnected. We continue to invest in infrastructure to make sure that there is increased network coverage to previously marginalised areas,” reads the statement.

NetOne also said the growth trajectory by the state-owned giant has been sustained by the growth in infrastructure against competition.

“The same POTRAZ quarterly report for the postal and telecommunications sector indicates that NetOne has gained market share of 2G, 3G and LTE by 0,1 percent, 0,4 percent and 2,2 percent respectively,” reads the statement.

NetOne chief executive, Mr Raphael Mushanawani, said the firm was serious about its mandate from the public to be their digital communication-solutions partner.

“In the third quarter of 2021 we deployed a total of over 50 new base stations. Recently the company has introduced new innovations on the market driven by smart technologies. NetOne has been continuously enhancing its product and services portfolio to suit the lifestyle of its customers.

“We fully understand the need to embrace the digital sphere and commit to equipping future generations with relevant ICT solutions. We are grateful for the support from our various stakeholders including the government through the Ministry of ICT,” he said.

Mr Mushanawani said innovation drive has seen NetOne introducing OneMoney Remit, a much needed financial inclusion solution that has domestic forex remittance possible.

“Other Smart Solutions include Hurudza/Umlimi Omkhulu, an e-agriculture platform that supports the farming community. Another innovation in the basket is OneHealth, a platform that allows customers to get smart health solutions on the go.

“This is after we appreciated the times that we are in, especially with the effects of Covid-19. Our commitment to enhancing digital literacy saw us launching the Dzidzo/Ifundo platform for university students to access e-learning,” he said. Mr Mushanawani said NetOne has also staked its claim in the hugely profitable mobile gaming market through OneGaming.

Meikles granted tax reprieve to unbundle largest tea producer Tanganda

Meikles granted tax reprieve to unbundle largest tea producer Tanganda. When the unbundling is completed, Meikles will proceed to list Tanganda separately on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE), which is scheduled to take place between 1 and 3 February.

The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) has granted Meikles Limited the capital gains tax exemption it required prior to unbundling and separately listing its 97-year-old tea producer, Tanganda.

Tanganda was supposed to be listed on December 2, 2021, but the company deferred the exercise to December 9, 2021, after Meikles applied for a capital gains tax reprieve from Zimra, which, however, could not grant the request in the planned time.

“Shareholders are advised that Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) granted the company the capital gains tax relief provided under section 15 (1) (b) of the Capital Gains Tax Act (Chapter 23:01) for only 51,39 percent of the issued shares.

“Consequently, there is a residual capital gains tax amount to be paid on the demerger of Tanganda,” Meikles said in a statement on Friday.

In terms of the law, Meikles should pay Capital Gains Tax (CGT) upon unbundling Tanganda, which is levied on the capital gain arising from the disposal of a specified asset.

Zimra defines a specified asset as immovable property such as land and buildings and any marketable security like debentures, shares, unit trusts, bonds and stock.

However, an Initial Public Offering (IPO) can be exempted from the CGT, which forms the basis on which Meikles applied to be exempted from the levy for the listing of Tanganda. “To consummate the demerger transaction, the directors have authorised the company to pay the residual capital gains tax liability.

“Processes to finalise the assessment of the capital gains tax liability prior to the implementation of the demerger and the listing of Tanganda are in progress.

“The deferment to complete the transaction only affected the implementation and listing dates advised as per notice dated November 16, 2021. With all the conditions precedent having been met, the tentative implementation and listing dates are February 1 and 3, 2022, respectively,” the group added.

The transaction, which was announced in April last year and confirmed late September, is part of several crucial deals being executed by the diversified group, whose interests span across the hospitality sector, security services and real estate.

It will result in Meikles trimming its scope of operations to hospitality and retail sectors.

Commenting on the unbundling, chairperson John Moxon said he wanted to give Tanganda the chance to wander along independently and discover embedded capabilities that have been overshadowed by the current corporate structure.

Tanganda is the largest producer, packer and distributor of tea in Zimbabwe. It had its first commercial tea planted in 1924.

Tanganda said it “was now in a solid financial and agricultural position, and therefore that shareholder value would best be served for Tanganda to function as a stand-alone, value enhancing export business”.

Security official arrested for poaching. The arrested are James Munhupedzi (48) an official of Treetop Security, Harare, Tineyi Chari (47) of Ngaura Village, Dema and Simbarashe Tumba (22) of Village 16, Masomera in Marondera.

Police in Mashonaland East Province has arrested three suspects for poaching in Eldorado farm in Macheke. The trio, upon their arrest, was found with three dead Impalas and a carcass of a bushbuck in their Toyota Hilux vehicle, which allegedly belonged to Munhupedzi.

Police spokesperson for Mashonaland East Province Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi confirmed the arrests. He said: The incident occurred on January 7, 2022 around midnight, where Andrias Vannard a supervisor at the farm heard some gunshots and he awakened Sean Saywood before teaming up with other security guards.

They proceeded in the direction of the gunshots and suddenly they saw a torchlight from a slow-moving vehicle in the game park. It is alleged that Mr Saywood then fired warning shots in the air and when the poachers realised that they were cornered, they sped off but the driver lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road and landed in a ditch.

Inspector Chazovachiyi added that Saywood and his team arrived and arrested the suspects save for Live Makamuna who escaped and is on the run.

ZBC News reports that all is in place at the Registrar General Offices with the new e-passport equipment and the system now in place ahead of the issuance of new passports set to begin at the end of the week.

The publication visited Garsu Pasaulis offices at the Immigration Department in Harare this Monday and witnessed workers undergoing training to mark the changeover to the new system. Said Chukkri Assal Managing Director Garsu Pasaulis:

The change over from the old to the new system requires extensive training of personnel and we are happy that we have completed the process as you can see our workers are being educated by the trainers on how the system works.

We are going to start issuing the passports within the next 3 days and training of staff was key to come up with a seamless process.

Garsu Pasaulis will establish similar infrastructure and systems in all the country’s provinces and Bulawayo is next on the list as the national programme begins.

Here is why President Mnangagwa fired State Security Minister Owen Ncube

Here is why President Mnangagwa fired State Security Minister Owen Ncube. President Emmerson Mnangagwa fired his close lieutenant Owen Mudha Ncube from his position as State Security Minister allegedly for defying his orders to refrain from jostling for a ZANU PF leadership position in the Midlands province.

NewZimbabwe.com was told that Mnangagwa had become frustrated by Mudha’s ‘violent tendencies’ and crossing paths with his wife, Auxilia. Ncube was fired Monday afternoon, with chief secretary to the President and Cabinet Misheck Sibanda simply stating in a press statement he had displayed “conduct inappropriate for a minister of government”.

According to sources, Mudha was meeting Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) directors when he was handed a letter terminating his employment.

NewZimbabwe.com reports that Ncube was fired after his decision to impose himself as ZANU PF Midlands provincial chairman triggered violent scenes which resulted in Saturday’s Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting being aborted.

The violence erupted after some senior officials vehemently opposed his decision. In addition to imposing himself as vice chairman, which he allegedly did, Mudha also reportedly tried to smuggle his friends into the provincial executive.

NewZimbabwe.com reported last year October that Mnangagwa had threatened to fire Ncube as a minister following his involvement in factional battles which ravaged the province.

Mnangagwa at the time summoned Mudha and asked him to either withdraw from the race for the chairmanship and keep the ministerial job or to go for the chairmanship and lose it. A highly placed Zanu PF source said: He opted to keep the ministerial job and pulled out of the race, only to turn around last Saturday and claim he was now the vice-chairman of the province.

Another source said Mnangagwa had been aiming to fire Mudha for some time because of his violent tendencies, defiance, and also because of the bad blood between him and first lady Auxilia Mnangagwa.

Mudha who is alleged to be the leader of a vigilante group in Midlands, Alshabaab, reportedly brought at least two commuter omnibuses with party youths wielding machetes to last weekend’s ZANU PF meeting to fill the provincial executive.

Sources say some party members immediately left the event before the programme ended as they feared for their safety and the meeting was aborted without the provincial executive being fully constituted.

Ncube becomes the fifth minister to be fired by Mnangagwa since 2018. The others are Prisca Mupfumira, Energy Mutodi, Fortune Chasi and Obadiah Moyo.

ZEC gives reasons for postponement of Mobile Voter Registration process

ZEC gives reasons for postponement of Mobile Voter Registration process. The statement is issued after local media reported that the commission apologised for “depriving thousands of prospective first-time voters an opportunity to participate in the upcoming by-elections after it failed to provide adequate and accessible registration centres throughout the country.”

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has issued a statement clarifying the reasons behind the postponement of the Mobile Voter Registration process.

In a statement, ZEC said it communicated these reasons with stakeholders on 24 Nov 2021. Pindula News presents the statement issued by ZEC’s Acting Chief Elections Officer J. P. Chigidji:

Postponement of Mobile Voter Registration After consultations with other critical players in voter registration, the mobile voter registration exercise pencilled for 06 December 2021 has been postponed to February 2022. The need to uphold inclusivity, which is one of the Commission’s core values, has necessitated this postponement.

This deferment is meant to allow all eligible stakeholders to acquire national identity cards, which are requisite for voter registration. The period initially slated for the voter registration exercise would have excluded some stakeholders without national identity cards.

The postponement will also give Civil Registry enough time to prepare for issuance of identity documents to a large population within a specified period.
