Donny van de Beek finally gets Man Utd exit as he agrees January transfer

Donny van de Beek has got his wish after agreeing on a deal to leave Manchester United this January on a loan transfer.

Everton appears to have won the race for the midfielder, who had been ostracised at Old Trafford by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and then Ralf Rangnick.

Crystal Palace had also been in the running for the Netherlands international while the choice has already been made.

According to The Athletic, Van de Beek has decided to move to Goodison Park and United have come to an agreement with Everton over a loan until the end of the season.

The former Ajax star’s salary will be fully covered by the Toffees – who were desperate to sign him in the summer.

Former director of football Marcel Brands was keen on snapping up his countryman on deadline day only for Solskjaer to block a move.

And it appears to have nearly gone down to the wire this month, too, though Brands is no longer in his role.

Frank Lampard has agreed to become the new manager of Everton but an announcement is yet to come, however, the former Chelsea manager was also privy to talks on Van de Beek.

During his interview, the Dutchman was involved during those talks and has had the blessing of the incoming boss, The Athletic further report.

Van de Beek’s imminent departure is one of several transfers at Old Trafford that could be completed before Monday night’s deadline.

However, Rangnick’s earlier wishes to sign a midfielder appear to have fallen on deaf ears with no news of incoming arrivals.

Instead, there could be more on the way out with Dean Henderson and Jesse Lingard being courted by Newcastle.

Both are desperate to leave United after a lack of first-team football and the Magpies are keen to bolster their squad under Eddie Howe utilising their newfound wealth from their Saudi owners.

Anthony Martial has already gone after joining Sevilla on loan until the end of the season – through his future remains unclear with no buy option included in the deal.

Pearl and Mr Smeg’s date received a lot of engagement on social media after it was live-streamed. During the date itself, social media users appeared not happy when Oskido spent too much time with the couple. Social media users were stunned when the DJ appeared to kiss Queen Sono and accused him of disrespecting Mr Smeg. However, other social media users applauded Oskido for seemingly leading by example. They mocked Mr Smeg for being nervous and timid during the date. However, others clarified that the kiss was innocent because Pearl and Oskido are close friends.

Saturday Night Party Ignite The Energy In The House #BBMzansi

The Housemates have been getting along, sharing stories, fixing each other’s hair, role-playing, and dancing with each other. The music in the House has set the tone for the Saturday Night Party.

The morning kicked off with some of the Housemates in the kitchen dancing and singing some old-school House music jams. This sparked interesting conversations around some of their favourite musicians and Casper Nyovest was featured on this list and he was cited as a great entertainer.

There was also a laundry session that took place and the Housemates were speaking freely about how they were feeling, and we hope that this means no one will be complaining about not having anything to wear.

The Housemates fill the silences with song, and we are here for the harmonies and the harmony in the house today. We are just trying to figure out who can’t dance in this House because some of the dance moves we are seeing are mind-blowing.

The Housemates have also discussed what they will be wearing tonight and Thato is ready to bring out not only the dance moves but also her lashes and Dinky has offered to help her get ready.

Some of the Housemates decided to nap before tonight so that they can have all the energy that will be required for the rocking that will take place.

Day six has proven to be one of the best days on the House, filled with laughter, a whole lot of positive energy, and some snoring from Libo.

All that’s left to do is to set up, glam up and rock!

United said in a short statement: “Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice.”

The striker was accused by a woman on Sunday morning of assaulting her. Video, photos, and an audio recording were posted on the woman’s Instagram account before being deleted.

Greater Manchester Police said it was “aware of images and videos circulating on social media”.

Greenwood, 20, made his United debut in March 2019 and signed a new long-term contract in January last year. He has played 129 times, scoring 35 goals for the club, and was capped by England in September 2020.

After months of anticipation, the housemates for Big Brother Mzansi season 3 were introduced to viewers. Today Big brother Mzansi added two more housemates, with QV leaving the house this now makes 19 housemates in the Big Brother Mzansi house.

Housemate Nthabii

Nthabii

Full Name: Nthabiseng Mothutsi
Age: 27
Hometown: Pretoria via Polokwane
Occupation: Student-athlete

“I’m loud. I don’t think it’s my worst trait, but a lot of people find it annoying.”

Multi-faceted Nthabiseng is a 27-year-old who is competitive by nature, she says she’s a fearless and outgoing person who does anything she wants and doesn’t let anything or anyone stand in her way.

The student-athlete is a netball player and only child. She tackles challenges head-on and says she is ready for the continent to see her sass. She describes herself as gorgeous, assertive, fearless. If she’s not training, she’s either drinking, unwinding with friends or sitting with her colouring books.

Nthabiseng’s strategy to survive in the game is to be smart and have several personalities. Other Housemates can “expect a lot of drama – I’m very dramatic with my words and actions. They can expect someone who is funny and very competitive – nothing stands in my way.”

Housemate Vyno

Housemate Vyno

Full name: Bongani Sikhukhula aka Vyno Miller
Age: 25
Hometown: Midrand via Pretoria
Occupation: Musician

A musician by trade, Vyno says he is a lot like the music he creates – sometimes chilled, sometimes wild, and he can often be a little nerdy. He spends most of his time on the road between performances, but he says he can be just as comfortable tucked away in a studio, producing music.

Regarding his being selected for Big Brother Mzansi, Vyno says he can’t wait to get inside, and that he has something of an advantage. “I already live in a big house with a bunch of other artists – it’s like the Big Brother House.” His strategy for winning the competition is to keep introducing new twists by being the guy that’s always smiling and laughing but causing a bit of chaos behind closed doors.

He claims to be a good listener, but sometimes people take advantage of his nature. “I can be too nice.” He also says that he can be “surprisingly funny” when he’s comfortable and that he is “actually very smart”.

In his non-Big Brother life, he likes to write, go quad-biking and spend time in the studio – “making music is my life”.

DJ Maphorisa says Mlindo the Vocalist backstabbed him

Some say the worst form of betrayal does not come from your enemies and DJ Maphorisa can attest to that. The Blaqboy music label owner, opened up about how Mlindo Da Vocalist back stabbed him, even though he was the one person who helped him kickstart his career in Johannesburg.

Taking to Facebook to vent out his frustrations on this matter, DJ Maphorisa exposed Mlindo Da Vocalist, for allegedly working with a man called Nyiko The Great in conspiring against him. Despite having helped him when he arrived in Johannesburg not knowing anybody, he still claims to have been betrayed by Mlindo.

“It’s so crazy how people will backstab you,” started off Maphorisa.

Nyiko was hired by Maphorisa to be Mlindo’s road manager, and then became his business partner. Before he knew it, Nyiko and Mlindo agreed to promote him to manager. But that does not end there, he alleges that they both agreed to cut him out of his percentage that was agreed upon.

“…I had to get him (Mlindo Da Vocalist) a road manager, cool I asked Nyiko to help Mlindo. At that time Nyiko was super broke but cool hard working guy so I gave him a chance not knowing [he was] the devil.

Israel Matseke- Zulu speaks on his healing journey after leg amputation

$

Israel Matseke- Zulu has poured his heart out about his battle with gangrene, which resulted in the amputation of his left leg.

The revered thespian, who recently played Don on Mzansi Magic soapie Gomora, said he started experiencing excruciating pain in his legs but ignored it because he was scared to go to the hospital for a medical examination.

“I was living in hell for seven months. I would sleep on a couch for seven months every night because when I tried to sleep in bed, the pain would be unbearable,” he said.

The former Yizo Yizo star said he felt that he was on the cusp of kicking the bucket because the pain would start from his leg and radiate to his heart, adding that his friend, Mzwakhe Sigudla, advised him to go for a medical check-up.

He begrudgingly agreed and went to the hospital.

“After proper medical examination, they discovered that I had gangrene in my leg and that there was a terrible infection in it. They advised me to have my left leg amputated because it would end up affecting my kidney or my other leg.

“What surprised the doctors was that although this is caused by high blood and sugar diabetes, I don’t have either. They then suspected that it might be smoking. That is why those who believe in witchcraft would say I have been bewitched. But I go with what medical scientists said and that is why I quit smoking.”

The former Gaz’lam actor said after agreeing to have his leg cut off as the pain was getting worse, he changed his mind and cancelled the appointment for an operation at the 11th hour.

“In fact, I cancelled four times,” he said.

He said he eventually heeded Sigudla’s advice and went to Rob Ferreira Hospital in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, where his leg was amputated after being hospitalized for a week.

Matseke-Zulu said he quickly recuperated because he had accepted his situation.

“I think that contributed to my quick recovery because I don’t ask myself the ‘why me’ question. The only challenge now is to work on my brain because I fall a lot. My brain has not accepted that I don’t have my other leg. I would have recovered a long time ago, but because of the falling, it took a bit of time.”

The musician also said he would have recovered even quicker had he cried when he was in pain.

“We grew up with this thing of saying men don’t cry, that’s why I didn’t cry. The only time I could cry was when I was acting, not because of pain. But now when I’m emotional, I cry a lot, I cry myself to sleep and wake up a better person.”

Matseke -Zulu said he would bounce back soon.

“It is not like I was playing soccer. I know that in acting, people can create a storyline for a person like me.

“In fact, I got jobs when I was in the hospital.

“So, my fans must expect me to be back once I have received my prosthetic leg in three months,” he added.

He thanked his family, his mother, and sister in particular, for the support they gave him.

He also called on other creatives to stop complaining and start working for themselves.

Sigudla said he was glad the actor had healed and would get his prosthetic leg soon.

“We worked hard to convince him. He is really a strong character,” said Sigudla.

RHOJ’s Christal Kay fired from the show

Real Housewives of Joburg star Christal Kay is said to be wallowing in stress after learning that she would not be returning to the show.

The decision not to bring the controversial reality star back was apparently based on her “bad behaviour”.

The publication reported last year that season three of the show had to be canned after Kay allegedly had a fight with co-stars Gugu Khathi and Brinnette Seopela.

A source close to the show told the publication that Kay has been a thorn in the side since learning that she was not going to be part of the new season.

“Christal has been calling and begging the production for a second chance, but they won’t take her because she started the fight that led to the canning of the show.

“Her behaviour was uncalled for, ” said the source.

Another source from MultiChoice said the remorseful Kay has been asking members of production to take her back.

Kay confirmed she was taken aback by the decision to exclude her, warning that its ratings will plummet without her.

“I was approached by two other production houses to be part of the show mid-year last year, however, now that Sonia Mbele Productions has been awarded the show, I am dropped. Sonia and I never saw eye to eye during filming,” said Kay.

“I was continuously bullied and attacked by the other girls during the filming of her show and I must say she always turned a blind eye to this personal torture on me.

“I have devoted my life to the show, now I am dropped unfairly. Who gets fired for doing the best job?”

How mushrooms can aid in diabetes treatment

Eating white button mushrooms daily can act as a prebiotic by improving microbial community in the gut, which could then improve the regulation of glucose in the liver, a finding that could one day pave way for new diabetes treatments, say researchers.
In the study, feeding white button mushrooms to mice changed the composition of gut microbes — microbiota — to produce more short chain fatty acids, specifically propionate from succinate, according to Margherita T. Cantorna, Professor at Pennsylvania State University in the US.
Previous research has shown that succinate and propionate can change the expression of genes needed to manage glucose production, she said.

“Managing glucose better has implications for diabetes, as well as other metabolic diseases,” Cantorna noted.

The study, reported in the Journal of Functional Foods, used two types of mice who were fed about a daily serving size of the mushrooms. One group had microbiota, the other were germ-free.

Consuming the mushrooms set off a chain reaction among the gut bacteria, expanding the population of Prevotella — a bacteria that produces propionate and succinate.

These acids can change the expression of genes that are key to the pathway between the brain and the gut that helps manage the production of glucose, or gluconeogenesis.

The mushrooms, in this case, serve as a prebiotic, which is a substance that feeds beneficial bacteria that are already existing in the gut. Probiotics are live beneficial bacteria that are introduced into the digestive system.

Beyond the possible beneficial benefits of mushrooms as a prebiotic, Cantorna said that this study also shows more evidence that there is a tight connection between diet and microbiota. It’s pretty clear that almost any change you make to the diet, changes the microbiota,” Cantorna added.

Zanu PF: Nelson Chamisa stole our yellow colour

Nelson Chamisa’s newly formed Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) is under attack from all angles, with the ruling Zanu PF party now claiming he plagiarised their yellow theme colour and should be barred from using it since it may confuse the electorate.

The party was formed last week Monday and made a clean break from its erstwhile MDC Alliance identity symbolised by the red theme colour.

Soon after the launch, party supporters and celebrities initiated a campaign to promote the brand and colour a development that has apparently angered the ruling party, which now wants to usurp the colour.

Addressing a gathering to mark the Zanu PF by-election campaign Chitungwiza on Sunday, party bigwigs took turns to lambast Chamisa for ‘stealing’ their colour.

Zanu PF’s acting youth league deputy secretary Tendai Chirau, provincial chairperson Godwills Masimirembwa, deputy national political commissar Omega Hungwe told dozens of party supporters that Chamisa’s party must be ignored as it had nothing to offer, including the yellow colour.

The Zanu PF party leaders described CCC’s pointed finger symbol as “satanic”.

“When the liberation struggle was fought, it was Zanu PF that mobilised the masses and one of the key fundamentals was the fight for mineral resources, the fight for independence and that is why Zanu PF chose yellow as (one of) its colours. The reason was because it was symbolising the national resources in terms of mineral wealth,” Chirau said.

“So these minerals we still have them up to this day and this explains why Zimbabwe has the largest number of artisanal miners and indigenous people who own minerals. Yellow, to us, represents wealth, it’s not just the colour that we took on ourselves, but most importantly, you should also take the fact that we have four colours, (that is) green and yellow, red and black. These colours will never change because of someone who wants to take them. They remain our colours, they symbolise the importance of the rich minerals that we have.”

Chirau said Zanu PF was formed before the MDC was born and, therefore, would maintain its symbols, including colours.

Masimirembwa weighed in saying: “They want to shine with the yellow colour. Yellow has always been a Zanu PF colour. It is our special colour as Zanu PF because we brought independence. Yellow represents the wealth of the country. The wealth of this country was brought in the country from whites by Zanu PF and not by CCC.”

He said Zanu PF supporters should not be ashamed of wearing yellow as it belonged to the ruling party.

Hungwe also weighed in, describing Chamisa’s new outfit as “satanic”, adding that the Chitungwiza voters, who have consistently voted against Zanu PF since 2000, should now be wiser.

“Voting for MDC or CCC shows that you are lost. Do you know what CCC means? It’s an animal that was spoken about in the book of Revelations and it means being used by the devil or the beast,” she claimed.

In line with the claims by Zanu PF leaders, police last Thursday arrested five CCC activists and charged them with “public nuisance” for allegedly wearing yellow regalia.

Police claimed the five were arrested for blocking a pavement and disturbing the flow of human traffic in central Harare.

In response to the Zanu PF claims, CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said: “Yellow is a colour that symbolises hope, energy and a fresh start. The CCC citizen movement has thrown Zanu PF into panic mode so they are desperately trying to dampen the spirits of the people who are ready to win the nation for change. They won’t succeed. CCC is here to stay. CCC is here ready to lead. CCC is ready to secure victory.”

Observers say Zanu PF is fretting over Chamisa’s newly-found mojo after he opted not to fight former MDC Alliance secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora over the MDC Alliance name.

Chamisa accuses Mwonzora of being used by President Emmerson Mnangagwa to decimate the biggest opposition party.

Recently, Zanu PF secretary for finance, Patrick Chinamasa took to Twitter to warn Chamisa against forming the CCC party, saying he was “playing with fire”.

“Chamisa needs to be warned that he is playing with fire abusing the democratic space and the rights and freedoms that were won for the people of Zimbabwe on the battlefield. Those with eyes let them ‘eye’ and those with ears let them hear,” Chinamasa said.

School teachers vow not to return to class over poor salaries

School teachers have once again threatened to boycott classes unless the government addresses the outstanding issue of their salaries and other education-related allowances before the opening of schools next week.

The government last week announced that schools will be opened for the first term on February 7 following weeks of closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Teachers challenged the government to take advantage of the deferment of the opening of the schools to address all the outstanding issues, but the government has up to now not yet resolved the thorny issues.

“Teachers are not ready. We are not telling our members any message but rather they are telling us as leaders that the government must address their salaries and conditions of service before opening schools. The restoration of the purchasing power parity of teachers’ salaries to US$540 is long overdue and so is the implementation of an array of education sector specific allowances agreed to over the past five years,” Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) president Takavafira Zhou said in an interview with the publication Sunday.

Zhou said the teachers are demanding allowances for ECD, composite class, bloated class, and advanced level teachers.

Zhou said the teachers also want to be exempted from paying schools fees for their children at all government-owned schools.

We want non- payment of fees by at least three children of a teacher in any school where teachers are paid by government. The government must be sensitive to the poverty stricken teachers and parents more so given the marked disparity of the current teachers’ salaries which are as low as $19000 and exorbitant school fees as high as $190000 to $260000 in boarding schools where teachers are paid by government and US$1000 to $3000 in private schools. There is a need to strike a balance sheet or a win-win situation so that schools can successfully open,” Zhou said.
