Man shocks village by building own grave in preparation for his death. Patrick Kimaro, 59, says his family is slowly accepting his decision, which is viewed by the community as a bad omen.

Traditional leaders from Mr Kimaro’s ethnic group in Kilimanjaro region say a grave should not be dug in anticipation of death and it should not remain empty for long. A Tanzanian man has shocked his village by building his own grave in preparation for his death.

Mr Kimaro, who works as a policeman, told BBC Swahili that he started building his grave in January to cushion his family from high funeral expenses when he dies.

“Being a first-born child, I had a difficult time burying my parents when they died six months apart… so I decided I’ll not take my children through the same [experience],” he told BBC Swahili.

Mr Kimaro plans to set aside some money for his casket and believes his family will be able to raise money for other related expenses after his death. He is also planning to take insurance for his grave in the event of natural calamities like flooding that may destroy it.

The preparation of the grave, including its exquisite finishing, cost him a total of $3,000 (£2,200. Mr Kimaro’s home security guard says some neighbours have shied away from visiting since the grave was dug within the compound.

Another mental patient murders brother using a shovel. The incident happened in Mberengwa. Police spokesperson for Midlands Province, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the incident.

An elderly man was struck and killed by a shovel swung by his brother, who is believed to be mentally ill, on Tuesday night.

“ZRP confirms handling an investigation into a murder case where a 52-year-old man of Tarasanago Village, Chief Matevaidze, in Mberengwa, allegedly killed his brother by striking him with a shovel.

“The incident occurred on 15 February 2022,” said Insp Mahoko. The now-deceased Tafirei Chipwanya retired to bed with his brother Taimutyai Ndlovu, who had both hands and legs tied, to control his movements, because of his mental illness.

Insp Mahoko said Ndlovu managed to untie himself and struck his brother to death with a shovel.

“It was reported that on 14 February, at about 2100 hours, the now-deceased Tafirei Chipwanya, a male adult aged 65 years, retired to bed with his brother Taimutyai Ndlovu, a man reported to be suffering from a mental illness.

“They slept in Ndlovu’s hut with the accused tied on his hands and legs after he had turned violent. “During the night, Ndlovu is said to have managed to untie himself and struck Chipwanya, who was asleep, with a shovel, several times, on the head.

“Chipwanya died on the spot and Ndlovu disappeared from the scene,” said Insp Mahoko. The police appealed to the public to assist them with information that could help them locate Ndlovu.

Robber busted in a high-speed chase. Alex Mupamhira was nabbed, while his four accomplices escaped, during the police chase from Ruwa to Sunningdale.

Property worth hundreds of dollars, and cash, were recovered on Tuesday in Ruwa following the arrest of a suspect after a high-speed chase with police detectives.

Safes, cash and goods worth hundreds of dollars were recovered. The chase left three vehicles damaged.

Police Criminal Investigations Department spokesperson, Detective Inspector Portia Chinho, could not immediately be reached for comment, by the time of going to press.

Lady loses R23k to lover. Praise Goveya, who is enrolled with AFM Theological Seminary Bible School, was allegedly given R23K by Memory Mapite, during the subsistence of their relationship.

A South africa-based bible school student is at odds with his former lover after he allegedly duped her of R23000 in a rabbit project. The money was meant to start a rabbit project and the pair agreed that Mapite injects the capital. She allegedly deposited the money into Goveya’s account and he bought 12 rabbits.

Mapite has since engaged lawyers to deal with the matter since Goveya has changed the script to suggest she didn’t inject anything into the project.

Contacted for comment Goveya did not respond, but cleared a friend to speak to H-Metro. “We are coming back to you, let me hear what he (Praise) has to say but he asked me to talk to you,” said the friend.

He never came back with the feedback. Instead, Goveya instructed his wife to contact Mapite. “Dear Memory Mapite, stop your claims on my rabbits,” read a message from Goveya’s wife.

“On January 18, I received messages about you and my husband from the number (protected), which I believe that it was you because, according to my research, the IP ADDRESS was from the same phone that you messaged me with on January 21, with your number (protected).

“My silence on this matter was not (a sign of being) stupid, you dated my husband, who is lawfully wedded, and you started a rabbit project together which I believed was his project, only to know now that you were behind the financing of it.

“I then bought my rabbits, together with my husband, now I hear that you want to claim the 14 rabbits that are in my name, hauone kuti wakundijairira? “You further went on social media claiming that you bought a bed and a sofa for him.

“Do you know that dating a married man is a serious offence that is criminal not civil, please leave my rabbits alone, as much as I am too peaceful to not fight publicly, (when it comes to) my money, I will fight you. “I demand a stop to this, I will fly to South Africa soon, not for drama but for my rabbits, so please stay out of that.”

Mapite said she just wanted her money back. “I want my money, why does he want to benefit from what he didn’t work for? Munhu anoda kudya zvaasina kushandira?

“Why does he act in that manner, munhu ari kuita chifundisi? “He lied to me that he was divorcing his wife. “I was the one who was working and we came up with the business idea.

“I funded it but now he is saying I am not part of it.” She added: “My lawyer sent him a letter of demand and he was given seven days to respond.

“All the expenses have accumulated to R39K.” Allegations are that Goveya went on to post pictures of him, with Mapite, in the church group.

State withdraw charges against ex-minister. Kagonye, who was facing two counts of fraud and a separate theft charge, appeared before Harare magistrate, Vongai Guwunro. The State yesterday withdrew one of the counts former minister, Petronella Kagonye, is facing on the basis that it doesn’t have sufficient evidence.

The State, represented by Zivanai Macharaga, told the court they have decided to withdraw the second fraud charge, because they don’t have enough evidence to prove its case.

Kagonye is accused of duping Shingitito, Housing Cooperative, represented by Joyce Chirgodza, after she allegedly approached its members, and informed them she owned a piece of land at Solome Farm.

The land belonged to ZB Bank. Kagonye allegedly went to receive US$38 500 from the cooperative knowing well that she didn’t own the land.

She is also facing a theft charge, in which it is alleged she wrote a letter to the Ministry of ICT Postal and Courier Services, requesting computers to donate to schools in Goromonzi South.

Potraz donated 20 computers to Goromonzi South, which were collected by her brother Evan Kagonye, on her behalf. However, the computers are yet to be accounted for and no school in Goromonzi confirmed receiving the computers valued at US$8 000.

Lupane State University has been caught in yet another sexual abuse storm in which the Vice-Chancellor Pardon Kuipa is alleged to have caused the clash of two women lovers causing a fierce fight that threatened to destroy his image if exposed.

“A lady (Names supplied) fought with another (name supplied) when she went to visit the VC and found him with her. The security guards who guard the halls of residence had a free film when they watched the two ladies fighting,” he said.

“The VC then promised one of the women to the position of a lecturer in the department of business management. She graduated with an Honours degree in Entrepreneurship at Lupane State University.”

The source said an advert was flighted on 15 October 2020 and the woman responded to the advert and was shortlisted. He said during the interview the panel found her not appointable. After the interview she told other staff members that the VC told her that she performed very well and she got the job.

“She waited for an appointment as promised but she got the shock of her life when she heard that someone had assumed duty. She became angry and agitated and she attacked the members who were on the panel saying the VC told her that she passed the interview, and how come they were playing politics,” the source said.

“Members in the department of Business management got angry with her gesture saying she claims she passed the interview yet she knows that they taught her and she was not and was never the best student during her study period.”

The source said the VC realized that his move to continue enjoying himself with the woman was coming to an end as the lady was piling pressure on him requesting for the promised job, he allegedly created a vacant post in the Faculty of Agriculture.

“The post was created without approval and other Departments and sections within the university were told that there was an employment freeze by the parent ministry. An advert was flighted on 29 march 2021 stating that the candidate must have “A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Applied Entrepreneurship, Agribusiness, with a merit or better or related field and a Bachelors Honours Degree in Applied Entrepreneurship, Agribusiness, or related field, with a grade of 2.1 or better; with considerable teaching and research experience and a proven record of publications in refereed scientific journals,” said the source.

“A PhD in Applied Entrepreneurship, Agribusiness, will be an added advantage. The woman who is a secretary by profession applied for the post and out of PhD holders from different disciplines, only two secretaries within LSU were shortlisted for the job. The advert required the candidate to teach at least three module according to ZIMCHE guidelines: Entrepreneurship, Agribusiness Management, Business Ethics and Corporate Governance, Risk
Management for Agribusiness, Agricultural Value Chain Management.” Indications are that the woman is married to a gold panner who is always away. “One wonders how many modules she teaches in the faculty of Agricultural sciences since she has an Entrepreneurship degree. Other female staff members who were sexual harassed have been promoted to acting positions, and others staff members who long qualified being neglected as the university is in a move to cover up for the vice-chancellor,” said the source.

“Positions are created and crafted so that they suit the individuals who do not qualify but to fulfil the promise. The university took the move to cover for the VC in fear after one female employee who was sexually harassed by the VC and is still aggrieved challenged the Registrar during the Parliamentary Portfolio committee meeting with University staff.”

The Registrar Jairos Makunde told the Parliamentary portfolio committee that indeed he knew the case but it was resolved amicably. This did not go well with the aggrieved lady who stood up in front of the Parliamentary Portfolio challenging that the issue is still hanging.

The Registrar tried to defend his position by presenting a sexual harassment policy which staff members rejected citing that the policy was a kangaroo policy created to cover for the VC.

However, another staff member said the staff members were not happy with the said policy while others raised that it had a forged signature for the late senior staff member. The document has two attached documents together with different font sizes and the date in which the policy was signed is suspicious.

Drama as trucker arrested for smuggling water. Mutakwa was driving a freightliner Colombia Truck registration number (ACE 2957) and is accused of contravening section 162 of the Customs and Excise Act, Chapter 23: 02.

Police has arrested Abraham Mutakwa (42), a trucker for entering the country using illegal means and routes with 39 660 litres of water, which he purported was diesel destined for Zambia.

Section 162 of Customs and Exercise Act, Chapter 23: 02 states that duty is levied on imported goods whilst Excise duty is levied on certain locally manufactured goods and other imported goods falling under the Excise Tariff even if they enter under a Trade Agreement.

On February 14, 2022, police in Chirundu detained Mutakwa for illegally entering the country through Forbes border post with an estimated 39 000 litres of water, which he purported that it was diesel.

The diesel had already entered the country undeclared, using illegal routes. National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi urged the public to properly declare all goods entering and exiting the country.

Horror as midnight thieves brutally assaulted. Robson Chipiri (40) and one Guvheya both from Kuderi, farm Mvurwi are battling for life at Concession hospital where they were transferred from Mvurwi after their condition continued to deteriorate.

Two Mvurwi based suspected thieves who tried to steal copper cables and pipes at new industrial area in Mvurwi were caught around midnight and severely assaulted Bulawayo24.com has learnt.

Prosecutor Ms Shiela Mupindu said they will proceed by way of summons once investigations are complete. Harare Magistrate Mr Tinei Manuwere withdrew the charges against Makoni as per the State’s request.

The State has withdrawn charges before plea against former Finance Minister Simba Makoni who was facing allegations of violating the Exchange Control Act after trading products at his Power Speed Electrical shop in Harare using an exchange rate above the official rate that was at $88.55 at the time.

Makoni was jointly charged with his company. The Exchange Control Act prohibits selling, displaying and offering goods or services for sale at an exchange rate above the ruling exchange rate in Zimbabwe.

It is said that on October 6 2021 the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe received information that some companies that are procuring foreign currency at the forex auction are selling their products above the official exchange rate.

The State had it that the Reserve Bank Exchange Control Department deployed its officers to confirm the allegations by approaching a number of retail outlets.

On the following day, John Mashal Chinembiri and Tanaka Lincoln Sanyamahwe from Reserve Bank Financial Intelligence Unit Department visited Makoni’s shop where Chinembiri bought 750ml of Benzine for $423,65 while Sanyamahwe purchased the same product for US$2,42.

It is the State’s case that the two were issued with point of sale receipts reflecting a rate of $175 per USS1 which was above the official exchange rate of $88,55 that was prevailing on October 5, 2021.

VP Chiwenga’s top aide Mandizvidza dies. Acting President Chiwenga confirmed the development in a statement, where he described Mandizvidza as a dedicated, loyal and patriotic officer.

Principal director in Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga’s office, Israel Mandizvidza, has died. Mandizvidza succumbed to an undisclosed ailment at West End Hospital in Harare yesterday.

“He was attested in the Zimbabwe National Army on January 1, 1995 as an Officer Cadet. He rose through the ranks to Lieutenant Colonel. Israel was a versatile officer with an agile mind and disposition,” he said.

Chiwenga said Mandizvidza used his rich military and academic background in discharging his duties. “He paid meticulous attention to detail, a feat that made his work stand out among his peers and superiors.

“The void he has left will be difficult to fill. On behalf of the office and on my own behalf, I wish to convey my heartfelt condolences to his spouse Lister, children, Tanatswa Ronia and Tavonga Gideon, the Mandizvidza family and the Zimbabwe Defence Forces on this sad loss.”

Hogh drama as Mwonzora’s Mutare mayoral candidate faints after losing to CCC. The mayoral elections were held to replace former Mutare mayor Blessing Tandi, who was recalled last Friday by the MDC Alliance led by Douglas Mwonzora. Bhiza was acting mayor before yesterday’s elections, which resulted in him losing the seat to Chabuka by six votes to five.

Mutare councillor Farai Bhiza (MDC Alliance) who was acting mayor yesterday fainted at the Mutare Civic Centre after he lost mayoral elections to lawyer, Simon Chabuka, who contested the elections under the ticket of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party led by Nelson Chamisa.

Mutare has 11 remaining councillors after seven of them were recalled. The seven vacant council seats are up for grabs during the March 26 by-elections. Bhiza was reportedly confident of winning the elections, which he contested under the MDC Alliance ticket.

Council spokesman Spren Mutiwi confirmed Chabuka’s win yesterday. Chabuka confirmed his win yesterday. “It’s true that we have just finished our elections and I have won,” Chabuka said.

A councillor, who attended the meeting, said Bhiza fainted when the results of the mayoral election were announced.

“It’s sad that councillor Bhiza fainted after the announcement of the mayoral election results. He had to be attended to by council paramedics and nurses from the city health department. He is, however, now safe,” the councillor said. CCC Manicaland provincial spokesperson David Panganai said he was happy with Chabuka’s win.

“Our councillors voted wisely and councillor advocate Chabuka managed to win. Our councillors also told me that councillor Bhiza collapsed in the chambers after the announcement of the results,” Panganai said. Efforts to get a comment from Bhiza were fruitless.

Jilted police officer bashes pregnant wife to death. Hilary Gororo (30), who was represented by MacKenzie Ndebele and Echaria Makaka of Zimudzi and Associates appeared before magistrate Yeukai Dzuda.

A policeE officer based at Buchwa Support Unit appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court facing murder charges after he allegedly assaulted his pregnant wife to death.

The State alleges that sometime in October last year, in Maro village under Chief Chinamhora, Domboshava, the now-deceased Mavis Nyagumbo, who was a student at Bondolfi Teachers College, was assaulted by Gororo following a domestic dispute.

It is alleged that Nyagumbo told her father Saul Nyagumbo, who was in Masvingo and her aunt Mary Mufute of Zimunya township, Mutare of the assault. She was taken to Makumbe Hospital for treatment and later transferred to Parirenyatwa Hospital.

The matter was not reported to the police. Her health deteriorated resulting in her giving birth to a stillborn baby. On January 4, she was referred to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital and died on January 5.

A post-mortem conducted on January 25 at Parirenyatwa Hospital concluded that the cause of her death was head trauma after she was struck with an unknown object. Lynette Gwarisa appeared for the State.

THREE Ethiopian nationals reportedly died on the spot while several others were injured when a minibus they were travelling in rammed into the railings of a bridge and burst into flames just 10km along the Harare-Beitbridge Highway.

The accident occurred last night. Two of the injured passengers were reportedly transferred to Gwanda Provincial Hospital en-route to Bulawayo due to the serious nature of their injuries.

Six others were admitted under police guard at Beitbridge, while two who escaped with minor injuries were handed to the Beitbridge immigration office. All, including the deceased, were undocumented.

National police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said he had not yet received the report last night. “I will come back to you once I have checked,” he said.

It is, however, understood that the Ethiopians, believed to be economic and political refugees, were on their way to South Africa when the driver of their minibus lost control of his car and rammed into bridge railings and burst into flames.

One of the deceased died on the tarmac after escaping from the inferno. The other was trapped and burnt to death while the third died after being pulled from the car.

When NewsDay arrived at the scene, the wreckage had been pulled off the highway, where it had partially blocked traffic.

Moira Knight dishes out juicy details of whilst she was still dating Seh Calaz: Pics. Seh Calaz’s ex-wife has filed a letter of demand with lawyers Masawi and Partners where she is seeking child support for their only child, Treasure Winter Mumanyi.

This comes after a series of pictures of Seh Calaz showing off his new girlfriend Lisa who is also I the entertainment business. It is reported that Lisa is a professional dancer. However, it seems like the Seh Calaz and Moira Knight saga is far from ending.

“We address you at the instance of Ms Knight. She has instructed us to demand as we do hereby do payment of child support(maintenance)…to cover food…medicines…ancillary expenses for your minor child, Treasure Winter Mumanyi…,”

reads part of the letter seen by Nehanda Radio. In the letter dated 15 February, the Mabhanditi hitmaker is given a two day ultimatum to respond or face being summoned to court. “If we do not hear from you by the 18th of February 2022, we have instruction to file summons at the maintenance court,” reads the last part of the letter.

On her Instagram with a 154k followers, Moira bemoaned Seh Calaz’s absence in providing for their child since his birth. “Kana munhu achitsamwa because I asked kuti achengete mwana zvekusvika paku likisa ma pictures ake then I predict one will leak his own n#des too.

“(By the way whatever that was supposed to be it could have reached me another way isiri planned leaking but anyways hazvina mhosva).

“Our son now needs to be looked after by BOTH parents. I have provided for him all by myself since his birth so it’s only fair that his father contributes from now on,” reads her post.

In 2017, Seh Calaz is alleged to have assaulted Moira leaving her with a bruised face before she moved out of their apartment in Waterfalls.

Since then there has been a back and forth of allegations between the pair with Moira at one time threatening to leak Seh Calaz’s n#des.
