Actress Pearl Thusi hits back at critics over her and Big Zulu video

$

Mzansi actress Pearl Thusi‘s hug to Big Zulu left tongues wagging especially because the video was shared after Bonang Matheba and Big Zulu went viral. Pearl got seen as an attention seeker and a person who has it in for Bonang Matheba but according to her, it’s not like that.

Big Zulu attended the memorial service of Riky Rick, together with all the stars including Bonang Matheba and Pearl Thusi. Big Zulu shared videos where he was interacting with both the women.

First, he shared one with Bonang and they sparked dating rumours. Bonang fueled them and said a Zulu man will sweep you off your feet. But the Inkabi rapper said “Nkabi Nation, One love! We were just having an innocent conversation with Bonang. Nothing serious it’s just two people getting to know each other that’s all… Thank you my sister for the opportunity to talk to you and for being humble.”

When he posted another video of Pearl, in the same place, same manner, he said, “Pearl Thusi says I do not love her anymore. How do I fix this Nkabi nation?? My Queen is crying.”

Now, Pearl topped the trends list but not for the right reasons as Bonang. People called her an attention seeker but she wants nothing to do with that.

She even distanced herself from rumours she is dating Big Zulu.

Pearl’s new alleged bae made headlines last year and he said to be a business man. He was revealed when she wanted to adopt a young girl and she had to provide some documents. A local publication revealed the man as Shaun Keith Alfred Bonett.

I have been resident at my … since December 2014. I reside with my 13-year-old daughter who has happily welcomed … and sees her as her younger sister. I am in a stable relationship with a loving, caring and honest man, Shaun Keith Alfred Bonett, who owns a global conglomerate of business and philanthropic foundations, and whom I am planning to marry. He too has happily accepted … as his own,” wrote Pearl as stated by the publication.

So the current uproar is not really getting to Pearl but she did seem a bit scared when she trended.

Pearl once addressed the haters and the hate they give saying it is a miracle she had survived the bullying.

“With how people always choose to see the worst in me – it’s a miracle I’ve survived all the emotional turbulence I’ve experienced outside of it as well. I’ve deleted the tweet because I’m really in a good place and I don’t mean to upset people …”

“I’ve also experienced loss and pain during this pandemic. Do I share all of it? No. Does it mean I don’t relate? No. I didn’t come here for a fight or to be called names. I won’t be baited anymore. Cancel me. Make me fall. It’s all the same to me. Only God and Myself, my family and friends, and those who support me are responsible for my success and joy. The rest is noise. I pray nothing but abundance and happiness for you all.

“…but because focusing on the negative is a priority on this app…For those offended, or think I’m careless… what I mean is, for those who can, I hope they do find peace, enjoy spending time at home, working, spending time with family, meditating, and find the good in what lockdown can also offer.”

Zanu-PF tells Chamisa – Campaign on social media

The ruling Zanu-PF party scoffed at the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) complaints about a public media blackout ahead of the March 26 by-elections. Zanu-PF said the opposition party should conduct its campaigns on social media platforms.

Nelson Chamisa’s CCC has often accused the State media, particularly ZBC, of bias in favour of  Zanu PF. But Zanu PF political commissar Mike Bimha said ZBC was not the only campaign platform, urging the CCC to canvass for support on social media.

ZBC is not the only channel of communication. We have so many channels of communication. And we also have social media and to me, there are limitless sources of disseminating information and singling out one source. I don’t think it’s fair,” Bimha told NewsDay.

“As a party, we want the media to talk about anyone who is in this game and there is no time that we have given instruction to ZBC to talk about us and us only. There haven’t been any instructions to any media house and ZBC for that matter to say that it should talk about us only.”

The CCC accuses the State media of abdicating its constitutional mandate to provide equal and fair coverage to all political parties.

Section 155 of the Constitution compels the State media to provide all political parties and candidates, contesting an election with fair and equal access to electronic and print media, both public and private.

Addressing a Press conference in Harare on Wednesday, CCC deputy secretary for elections Ellen Shiriyedenga challenged the State media to be non-partisan in covering political party events.

“We demand credible media reforms. Partisan State media reportage has to stop,” Shiriyedenga said.

CCC has also alleged that there is an increase in State-sponsored violence against its members ahead of the by-elections.

Yesterday, Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights said CCC activist Godfrey Karembera, popularly known as Madzibaba Veshanduko, was brutally assaulted by police for allegedly wearing the party’s yellow regalia.

Karembera is a prominent CCC supporter, who is always seen at rallies in yellow apostolic garments “anointing” party supporters.

Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi could neither deny nor confirm Karembera’s arrest, saying: “If someone breaks the law, does it mean that they should not be arrested because they are political activists? In Zimbabwe, there are laws to be observed and followed. If someone does not want to get arrested they should not commit a crime.”

The Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum, in a report released on Tuesday, accused police of acting as an extension of Zanu PF to derail the CCC campaign momentum.

“Partisan policing of opposition political party rallies growing and disturbing trend has been observed in the run-up to the March 26 by-elections where police have been blocking CCC rallies while allowing Zanu PF and MDC Alliance to freely campaign,” the report read.

The opposition has also accused police of blocking its campaign rallies, over “flimsy excuses”, the latest being in Marondera on Sunday, Binga on Tuesday and Masvingo this coming Sunday.

In banning the Masvingo rally, police claimed that Zanu PF had already booked the venue and when the CCC chose an alternative, the law enforcement agents said it was too close and could cause inter-party clashes.

In a statement, the Election Resource Centre (ERC) said “police-led repression” undermined the credibility of the upcoming polls.

“ERC has noted with grave concern the rising levels of police-led oppression and intimidation which are characterising political and campaign activities ahead of the 2022 by-elections,” ERC said.

In a recent report, the Zimbabwe Democracy Institute (ZDI) said State-sponsored violence targeting the opposition was being used as a strategy to tilt the electoral environment in favour of Zanu PF.

“The State-sponsored violence against the opposition shows the covert and overt manipulation of the electoral processes. This is a signpost revealing the nature and context within which the 2023 electoral processes will be conducted,” the ZDI said.

China reports first two COVID-19 deaths in more than a year

China reported its first two Covid-19 deaths in more than a year on Saturday, the National Health Commission said, both coming in the northeastern province of Jilin as the country faces its worst case upsurge since the pandemic’s outset. The fatalities were the first reported in China since January 26, 2021, and bring the country’s total death toll in the pandemic to 4,638.

In all, China reported 4,051 new cases on Saturday, down from 4,365 the day before, the commission said. The country where the virus emerged in late 2019 has largely kept it under control thanks to a combination of strict border controls, lengthy quarantines and targeted lockdowns.

But the highly transmissible Omicron variant is posing a stern challenge to that strategy, prompting authorities to close off cities including the southern tech hub of Shenzhen, home to 17.5 million people.

The world’s most populous country has gone from reporting under 100 daily infections just three weeks ago to well more than 1,000 per day for over a week. Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Thursday the country will “stick with” its zero-Covid strategy, state TV reported.

Speaking at a meeting of China’s top leaders, Xi said the country should “continue to put people and life at the forefront, stick with scientific accuracy and dynamic-zero, and curb the spread of the epidemic as soon as possible,” according to state broadcaster CCTV.

Tens of millions of people are currently under stay at home orders across China to try and stamp out the latest outbreak.

Beijing’s communist leadership has made its handling of the pandemic a matter of political capital, saying the low death rate demonstrates the strength of its governance model. Racing to tamp down outbreaks in multiple cities, Chinese officials have also moved to free up hospital beds over fears the virus could put the health system under strain.

Jilin province — which has reported thousands of cases over the past week — has built eight “makeshift hospitals” and two quarantine centres to stem the surge in infections.

State news outlets this week broadcast footage of dozens of giant cranes assembling temporary medical facilities in Jilin, which has only around 23,000 hospital beds for some 24 million residents.

Authorities also said people with mild cases could isolate at central quarantine facilities, having previously sent all patients with any symptoms to specialist hospitals. The latest flare-ups have prompted long queues to form outside mass testing sites and seen tight controls at ports, raising fears of trade disruption.

Tino Chiyani’s rumoured bride breaks her silence

Actress Simz Ngema‘s ex Tino Chiyani broke the internet this morning after he shared images from a wedding where it appeared he was the groom and model Sadia Sallie was the bride.

This gave Mzansi that Tino was officially off the market and messages of congratulations flooded his comment section.

While some of his followers thought that it was a prank and others thought it was real, Tino did not confirm nor deny anything. Hours later the model pictured kissing Tino, Sadia Sallie took to Twitter to address the images in a lengthy thread.

She put it on record that she definitely did not get married. She was called on the day, left in the dark about what happened, and told to pretend that it was her wedding. This according to her.

Hey everyone, I just wanna put it out there that I definitely did not get married, I was just contacted as a model and was kept in the dark about everything even when I arrived on the day I was told I had to ‘act’ and pretend that it’s my wedding. Felt intimidated so I complied.

This did not bother her that much as she thought it was just an innocent shoot for a boutique. She says she raised her concerns which were ignored and was left with no choice but to address this herself.

Nonetheless, I thought to myself okay it’s just for content for this bridal boutique and all its models but now this publicity stunt is being pulled without my consent. I’ve addressed my concerns and discomfort and it’s been ignored so I’d like to make this statement myself.

She did agree to the shoot but does not endorse the narrative that is currently being pushed.

I don’t consent to the narrative being pushed. I just went in there to do my job and I wish my voice was respected as a woman to have kept everything very professional. I was told “the controversy is good for the boutique and brand “ but it’s not good for my brand. I want no parts.

Tino was introduced to most South Africans by his ex Simz Ngema in 2020. The exes, who shared a baby boy together announced their break up toward the end of 2021.

An end to a beautiful love story. This has been one of my greatest experiences, a beautiful love story of two people fighting all the odds to be together. I have learnt to love again, to feel again, to live again, and to smile again. I will forever be grateful for Everything you have taught me,” announced Simz Ngema on social media.

RHODurban star Nonku Williams has spoken up after being dragged on social media following another dramatic episode of the Real Housewives of Durban.

In this week’s episode, Nonku Made shocking claims about the late gospel star Sfiso Ncwane. She revealed that Sfiso told her that he made a mistake marrying his wife Ayanda Ncwane.

“I didn’t wanna share this. He told me that he made a mistake by marrying Ayanda. She added that Sfiso said, “I want you, I wanna get back together with you,” Nonku said after she was asked why she left her daughter’s damages issue for so long.

Speaking to actor Linda Majola in an Instagram Live video, the reality TV star and businesswoman said she regrets saying some of the things that she said. She also reminded RHODurban fans that some of the reactions on the show are edited.

Nonku said she saw some of the reactions on Twitter. She said she realized same time after saying what she said that she was wrong but she needed to stand her truth. She added, “Sometimes I say things at the heat of the moment…I remember the scene very well, and I know that sometimes I tend to speak without processing…

Meanwhile, Ayanda left the show after the first season because she allegedly wanted to protect her husband’s legacy.

“She feels like the show doesn’t respect her hubby’s legacy, which is something she has been trying to preserve. She carries the show, they are going to have to find someone as strong and as interesting as her brand,” a source revealed to a local publication.

Ayanda also spoke to the publication and revealed that she felt like being associated with the show was belittling her hard work. “I have built my brand and my brand is so big and high for me to be just associated with the show. I recently saw a headline that only associated me with the Real Housewives of Durban, and I got annoyed because I have worked so hard building a brand of being a music executive.

She added, “So for me to be associated with something so small whereas I have worked so hard did not sit well with me, and I decided that the show is not for me as I don’t want to be reduced to just being a housewife, while I have worked so hard for everything that I have,” she told the publication.

Myanmar will resume international passenger flights

Myanmar will resume international passenger flights from April 17, the military said Saturday, lifting a two-year ban on foreign tourists.

The Southeast Asian nation closed its borders to visitors in March 2020 at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic in an attempt to prevent rising infections. Myanmar was further isolated after a coup last year saw huge protests and a bloody military crackdown on dissent, sending its economy — including its tourism industry — into freefall.

“We will open all international flights on 17 April, and can fly as regularly,” said the National Central Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment of Coronavirus Disease, citing falling Covid-19 infections.

In a statement it said the decision was “in order to improve the tourism business sector, and in order to have smooth trip for visitors who come to visit Myanmar”. Visitors will be required to quarantine for a week — undergoing two PCR tests — and must be fully vaccinated, according to the health ministry.

Myanmar’s tourism industry was battered by the pandemic, with the country registering 40,000 daily Covid-19 cases at its peak last year. It has recorded almost 20,000 deaths in total.

Spiralling violence following the junta takeover has also dented business, with many international firms pulling out of the nation. More than 1,600 people have been killed by security forces and over 11,000 arrested since the coup, according to a local monitoring group.

The junta indicated late last year it was moving to reopen to international visitors in 2022, hoping to take advantage of the slew of local traditional holidays.

Kudakwashe Tagwirei’s Massive Wealth revealed

$
0
0

Sakunda Holdings, linked to businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei, redeemed Treasury Bills (TBs) it held under the US$1 billion Command Agriculture programme at a favourable exchange rate approved by the central bank, while 67% funds of the facility were not recovered by 2018.

The explosive revelations are carried in a forthcoming investigative report, first made available by The Sentry to the Zimbabwe Independent.

The report titled Legal Tender? The role of Sakunda and the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) in Command Agriculture casts light on how Sakunda was cherry picked to run the multi-billion-dollar programme outside public tendering regulations.

The report questions the selection process of over 30 input suppliers by the entity and how it redeemed TBs running into millions of United States (US) dollars with approval from the RBZ at a preferential exchange rate allegedly in violation of the country’s laws.

The Sentry is an investigative and policy organisation that seeks to disable multinational predatory networks that benefit from violent conflict, repression, and kleptocracy.

The opaqueness surrounding Command Agriculture has been a subject of intense scrutiny by the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (Pac) and Auditor General Mildred Chiri, who pointed out in her 2018 report that the programme was replete with gross irregularities.

As pointed out in The Sentry report, Sakunda was issued with TBs amounting to US$1 billion outside United States dollar (USD) cash payments received during the period that the company rolled out Command Agriculture between 2016 and 2019.

In 2019, the time Sakunda converted some of its TBs at a favourable exchange rate, Zimbabwe had introduced Statutory Instrument (SI) 33, which pegged the exchange rate at US$1:RTGS$1.

However, while other USD denominated accounts were converted to the equivalent value of local currency, Sakunda and Landela Investments, as revealed by the report, cashed in on the TBs at a favourable rate approved by RBZ, thereby making extra cash in the process.

In one such transaction involving US$336 million Treasury Bill (TB), the report highlights Sakunda transferred “part” of it to Landela, which proceeded to buy state-owned gold mines and a 50% stake held by the government in platinum mining concern Great Dyke Investments (GDI).

The report reads: “Part of the US$366 million Treasury Bill that Sakunda received in January 2019 was transferred to another company”, Landela Investments.

“The Treasury Bill was converted into local currency at a favourable rate by the RBZ, giving Landela the equivalent of US$50 million that was then used to purchase gold and platinum mines owned by the government and military.

“According to Sakunda, the January 2019 US$366 million Treasury Bill (ZTB 365 20190109B) was split: “US$256 million went to a specific bank” and US$100 million relating to the same instrument …went to a different bank”.

However, Sakunda, in its responses to The Sentry seen by the Independent, denies any wrongdoing relating to receiving preferential treatment from RBZ and contributing to the local currency losing value.

Sakunda also denied any association with Landela Investments.

“As we have stated, Sakunda and Landela, called by whatever name, are not related, and we, therefore, refrain from commenting on matters to which we are not privy,” Sakunda Holdings company secretary Maurice Makoni said.

Sakunda told The Sentry that although an open tendering method was not used by the government in 2016, it was appointed as part of a competitive process, having put forward the most attractive proposal.

The company noted that it was appointed in terms of a “Cabinet Authority”, which according to the company is the overriding instrument in terms of the country’s public procurement protocols.

“In June 2019, Landela Investments asked its bank to transfer a US$60 million portion of the same Treasury Bill (ZTB 365 20190109B) to the RBZ, in turn requesting that the RBZ pay local Zimbabwean dollars…for the purchase of mining companies, buses and fertiliser. It is unclear how the Treasury Bill was transferred from Sakunda to Landela,” the report reads.

In two separate letters written on June 6, 2019, Landela director Chris Fourie requested from the BancABC Clients Relationship manager to transfer Treasury Bills worth US$21 million and US$39 720 685,59 to an RBZ Central Securities Depository (CSD) Account.

Zimbabwe Independent saw Fourie’s letters.

Prior to that, Fourie on June 4, 2019 had written two letters to RBZ governor John Mangudya, firstly requesting the apex bank to liquidate Treasury Bills worth US$39 720 685,59 at an exchange rate of US$1:RTGS$5,5135 which was the prevailing interbank rate to facilitate payments of RTGS$219 million to GDI and Chemplex.

In the another letter to Mangudya, Fourie additionally requested the conversion of Treasury Bills worth US$21 million at that day’s interbank rate of US$1: RTGS$5,5135 to process a payment of RTGS$115 783 500,00 for the purchase of Bindura Nickel Mine (BNC), buses and fertiliser.

Essentially, The Sentry report states that the transaction was “problematic” for two reasons being:  the “…companies were using Treasury Bills intended as security for Command Agriculture for other purposes including buying mining companies held by the government”.

RBZ also appeared to have given “Sakunda and Landela a preferential rate when converting the US dollar denominated Treasury Bill into local Zimbabwean currency.”

Responding on whether Sakunda received preferential treatment from RBZ, Makoni wrote to The Sentry: “This allegation is simply false, and part of a coordinated character assassination intended to discredit our organisation, of which your organisation is a knowing participant. There was never a time Sakunda was favoured with preferential treatment by the RBZ.

“It must be noted that (SI) 33 of February 2019 did not summarily convert corporate USD balances to the Zimbabwe dollar at the rate of 1:1.

“The net effect of SI 33 was that the government assumed all proven external legacy debts by quarantining them into blocked funds, and they came to an amount in excess of US$3 billion on the basis of 1:1 principle,” Sakunda said in its responses.

“Since then, local companies chose different instruments and structures to liquidate their blocked funds using financial institutions of their choice at USD auction rate of the day. This was neither exclusive nor a favour to Sakunda but a government position which benefited more than 600 companies.

“These funds were traded as United States dollars at the ruling exchange rate of the day. I refer you to the Finance Bill HB 16, 2021, as ratified by parliament, seeking to rationalise this framework,” Sakunda said.

However, The Sentry insists that the conversion of all assets and liabilities valued in US dollars into the local currency at an equivalent rate of 1:1 as stipulated by the legal instrument was not applied to Sakunda.

“However, as revealed by the organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), this change did not affect Tagwirei’s January 2019 U$366 million Treasury Bill. Portions of the Treasury Bill were redeemed at a favourable rate by the RBZ after SI33 came into force on February 22, 2019,” the Sentryreport reads.

Mangudya told the Independent this week that it was in the purview of the Treasury to decide how TBs are redeemed.

“Treasury Bills are the prerogative of the government through the Ministry of Finance who are the issuers. The Reserve Bank does not therefore issue Treasury Bills and bonds but provides custody of government securities through the Central Securities Depository (CSD) as the banker of the State,” Mangudya.

“The response to your enquiry is that the said Treasury Bill was handled in line with terms of the referenced Treasury Bill.”

A top Treasury source said the RBZ’s role in the conversion of TBs is that of an agent of government, through the Ministry of Finance.

The soon-to-be published report highlights that Command Agriculture was highly politicised while it became a feeding trough for the elite and politically connected.

The Sentry estimates that at least 67% of Command Agriculture expenditure was not recovered.

“Many farmers did not repay their loans. The IMF estimated that 35% defaulted, while the World Bank and the government of Zimbabwe estimated that, in 2018, two thirds of Command Agriculture expenditure was not recovered,” the report reads.

In the report, The Sentryproffered a range of recommendations to authorities, including financial institutions, “to conduct enhanced customer due diligence on transactions involving natural resources in Zimbabwe — especially when transactions involve the Tagwirei network”.

Justyna Gudzowska, Director of Illicit Finance Policy at The Sentry, told the Independent: “The central bank’s granting of a seemingly favourable exchange rate to an oil tycoon to pay a Zimbabwean military company for Zimbabwean-Russian platinum mine doesn’t pass the smell test.

It’s time for the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission and police to investigate properly”.

In addition, Oliver Windridge, Senior Advisor at The Sentry, said: “The US$1 billion Command Agriculture programme was the product of a behind-closed-doors culture.

Part of the solution is to embrace open contracting — making all contracts and payments public. Zimbabwe Independent

Slik Talk came out with all guns blazing at the TV and Radio personality Pearl Thusi in his recent video on YouTube.

The YouTuber dragged Pearl and her entire career after a video of Pearl hugging the hip-hop star Big Zulu made rounds on social media.

Reacting to the video, Slik Talk said, “Baby girl, you are not as desirable as you once were. People aren’t checking for you anymore Pearl. You are constantly trying to get attention, you are constantly trying to trend, and my thing is, let’s focus on the talent which you have none.”

The YouTuber went ahead and dissed Pearl’s acting calling it horrible. “You can’t act to save your life. Queen Sono was one of the worst shows I have ever seen in my life. I had to cut it off after five episodes,” he said.

Slik Talk claims that Pearl’s biggest claim to fame was twerking on Live Amp. He continued, “You know what they say Pearl Thusi, The prettiest people do the most ugliest things on the road to riches…you keep getting opportunities even though you have Zero talent to your name. Your biggest claim to fame was twerking on Live Amp and that is a fact Pearl Thusi.”

A few days ago, Slik Talk took a swipe at Big Zulu after the rapper threatened to slap him following a video that he made accusing Big Zulu and Lasizwe of clout chasing.

In a video, the YouTuber made it clear that he is not scared of Big Zulu, and he can take him on any time.
…so I woke up this morning to find that I am being threatened by Big Zulu talking about when he sees me he’s gonna slap me…This is the same Big Zulu that I met at the Cassper Nyovest boxing match and this man was smelling like cow pee and now all of a sudden he is a tough guy?” he said.

Slik Talk also recently dragged Natasha and Lorch following Natasha’s pregnancy reveal.

He said he lost a lot of money because of Lorch adding that the soccer player is failing dismally on the field. “You don’t make a baby with a guy like Lorch, he is an embarrassment. I’m an Orlando Pirates supporter. Do you know how much money I’ve lost because of this clown? Do you know how much embarrassment I’ve had to take because of this clown? He just embarrassed us on the weekend and you gonna be impregnated by a clown like Lorch.”

Suspected Senzo Meyiwa killers to apply for special plea

The lawyer for four of the accused in the Senzo Meyiwa murder case said they would be applying for a special plea before the trial commenced.

The men made an appearance in the Pretoria High Court on Thursday.

They are accused of being behind the Bafana Bafana captain’s murder in October 2014. This matter will go to trial in less than three weeks.

Advocate Malesela Teffo told the High Court to consider another case that had been investigated parallel to the current one before the court.

He said the seven people who were in the house when Meyiwa was shot, including his then-girlfriend musician Kelly Khumalo, should be charged. This after the National Prosecuting Authority decided not to prosecute them.

“We believe that the killer and murder weapon came from the seven people in that house.”

Malesela said they would be applying for a trial within a trial.

While the matter has been postponed to 11 April 2022 for trial, Judge AJ Bam has given the lawyers until 28 March to decide whether they will be ready to proceed.

Mzansi star Simphiwe Ngema has taken the decision to ignore the hype and the desperate display of attention by her baby daddy Tino Chinyani, and rather focus on herself and her happiness. If another baby makes her happy then why not as she has taken to her social media page to relay her desires to have another kid.

Simz Ngema shared a short video of an adorable-looking baby girl and the baby fever hit her again. In her caption she said, “Sometimes I kinda want a daughter too.’

Simphiwe Ngema

We anticipate an even cuter baby girl as everyone can see how adorable her son looks.

Simz Ngema

Yesterday, Simphiwe Ngema became a hot topic of discussion when her baby daddy Tino Chinyani pulled a publicity stunt with a gorgeous model. The model and singer had people angered and shocked when he posted images of what looks like his wedding day.

Such stunts are not new to Mzansi celebs and they sometimes create a buzz. The model called in to participate in the photo shoot spoke out and said she did not sign up for this and distanced herself from everything.

Model Sadia Sallie said, “Hey everyone, I just wanna put it out there that I definitely did not get married, I was just contacted as a model and was kept in the dark about everything even when I arrived on the day I was told I had to ‘act’ and pretend that it’s my wedding. Felt intimidated so I complied.

“Nonetheless, I thought to myself okay it’s just for content for this bridal boutique and all its models but now this publicity stunt is being pulled without my consent. I’ve addressed my concerns and discomfort and it’s been ignored so I’d like to make this statement myself.”

“I don’t consent to the narrative being pushed. I just went in there to do my job and I wish my voice was respected as a woman to have kept everything very professional. I was told “the controversy is good for the boutique and brand “ but it’s not good for my brand. I want no parts,” she declared.

Tino is Simz’ ex and they announced their break up in the most shocking way possible. Although as time went on, people did not buy their story, they still have not said anything about each other.

“An end to a beautiful love story. This has been one of my greatest experiences, a beautiful love story of two people fighting all the odds to be together. I have learnt to love again, to feel again, to live again, and to smile again. I will forever be grateful for Everything you have taught me,” Simz said at the time.

Tino has not addressed the publicity stunt and but he continues to post pictures of him and Simz together.

Another huge TV gig for Somizi Mhlongo

It seems like the storm is over for media personality Somizi Mhlongo. Just months after he was roped back into Mzansi’s biggest singing competition, Idols SA, he has landed another major TV gig as the new host of 1Magic talk show, Downtime with Somizi.

According to producers, the show is filled with twists and turns where Somizi, who was recently rocked by allegations of abuse, will chat to guests during an activity that takes them outside of their comfort zone.

They will take part in a fun and quirky experience for the first time, before heading to a relaxed and low-key dinner where themed topics will be explored.

The show will feature guests such as Peggy-Sue Khumalo and Connie Ferguson, who will talk about the beauty of love and pain of loss.

After Idols SA put him on ice following the abuse allegations, Somizi previously told the publication that it was one of the toughest times in his life.

“I am innocent until proven guilty. I missed being on the show and returning was a mutual decision between producers and myself. They were very compassionate and understanding, and asked if I was ready to come back.”

Other featured guests include T-Bo Touch and DJ Sbu (hustlers), Bobby Motaung and Shauwn Mkhize (soccer rebels) as well as Anele Mdoda and Thembisa Nxumalo (sisterhood).

In a statement, director of local entertainment channels at M-Net Shirley Adonisi told the People’s Paper that they were excited about the show.

“A show like Downtime with Somizi will appeal to our audience’s diverse and discerning tastes. It is another exploration for the channel to play in the talk show genre, which viewers have previously enjoyed. 1Magic will continue to expand its repertoire with shows that cut across many genres and formats, and that’s something our audience can continue to expect from us,” she said.

The show premieres on DStv channel 103 on 1 April.

Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe has donated reusable sanitary pads to 775 primary and secondary school girls from across the country worth $ZWL1 426 000.00 as part of its commemoration of women’s month.

The Standard Bank Group subsidiary partnered with Talia Network – an organisation that represents the interests of the girl child and donated sanitary wear to girls from Musara Primary and Secondary Schools in Glendale (50 Km North West of Harare); Pote Secondary School in Domboshava and Mukombami High School near Bhora Growth Point.

About 280 girls from Musara Primary and Secondary Schools, 250 girls from Pote Secondary School and 245 from Mukombami High School received sanitary wear courtesy of Stanbic Bank with the support of Talia Network over the last week. Each girl received a pack with reusable pads and undergarments.

Stanbic Bank Marketing Manager for Sponsorships, Events and CSI, Lucy Dlodlo said Stanbic Bank is committed to the wellbeing of the girl child hence the effort to meet these girls’ sanitary wear needs. Said Dlodlo:

As a financial services institution we are committed to supporting the community we operate in, and the underprivileged girl child and her needs are among our top priorities.

We understand the challenges faced by girls in terms of securing or sourcing sanitary wear and once again we partnered with Talia Network to make this gesture for the girls.

She said Stanbic Bank has over the years supported school girls, especially during women’s month through the donation of sanitary pads, adding that going forward this is going to be an annual activity.

In 2018, Stanbic Bank female employees raised over 900 packets of disposable pads and were complimented by 2 500 packets of non-disposable sanitary napkins purchased by the bank for disadvantaged girls living in rural areas.

The donation was aligned with the commemoration of International Women’s Day in March as the Stanbic ladies aimed to celebrate this day in a more impactful manner.

Talia Network Founder, Saliwe Zakaria, was on hand to offer invaluable information to the girls about how to use the pads as well as keep them clean.

Zakaria’s organization, which makes pads, goes the extra mile to train recipients not only about hygiene but livelihoods and life skills.
