The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has reduced the prices of diesel and petrol for the week 21 to 27 March 2022.

Diesel now costs US$1.60 and ZWL$213.90 per litre while the price of petrol has been reduced to US$1.59 and ZWL$213.49 per litre.

Before the price adjustment, the price of diesel was US$1.68 and ZWL$218.01 per litre while the price of petrol was US$1.67 and ZWL$216.78 per litre. ZERA said in a public notice:

Prices have been set in accordance with oil price patterns on the international market, which the Authority is continuously monitoring.

The public and operators are advised that the blending ratio remains at E0.

Operators may sell the petroleum products below the prescribed prices depending on their trading advantages and should display prices in a prominent place as provided for by the fuel pricing regulations.

Big Brother Mzansi Season 3 stars who got nominated for possible eviction have all been saved.

Gash1 and Sis Tamara were most excited to been saved tonight.

The show opened with a killer performance by Amaroto – the duo made up of Zuma and Reece Madlisa – of their hit, Intsimbi Zase Envy. Their performance succeeded in kicking the show off with a bang, and Lawrence just had to ride the wave for a while – a role he tackled with style.

Early in the show, he told audiences that there would be no Eviction tonight, but that Part 2 of the Ultimate Veto Power Game would commence directly after the show (more on this later). Lawrence did not let the Housemates off the hook, however, so the six other who aren’t Themba or Libo were tense for most of the night.

Over the course of the night – and between telling each Housemate that they were safe – Lawrence couldn’t resist throwing the odd bit of surprises to the Housemates. For Thato and Gash1 – or “Tash1” as Lawrence called them – tonight was the first time they heard their “ship name”. It genuinely seemed like they forgot people would be watching their budding courtship and doing the usual thing of throwing down a portmanteau to describe the couple. He also dropped the knowledge that Libo was behind the missing items – a revelation that left Mphowabadimo in tears.

Toward the end of the show, we were treated to a second guest performance, this time from Pabi Cooper who threw down a rendition of Bambelela. It didn’t take long before Lawrence joined in with the dancers onstage.

“With all the mechanics of the show out of the way, it was time for the Housemates to turn their attentions to the conclusion of the Ultimate Veto Power game. Sis Tamara, Thato, Themba and Tulz are battling it out in a test of endurance: hold a plate in one hand, balancing a ball on top of it without stepping out of a designated mark. This is the kind of thing that’s much harder than it looks.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have arrived in Belize as demonstrations over land rights forced them to cancel the first big engagement of their tour. William and Kate were welcomed by Belize’s governor general Froya Tzalam as they flew in on RAF Voyager with its union flag paint scheme.

The Belize Defence Force formed a guard of honour to greet the couple and, after military tunes were played by the unit’s band, William inspected the personnel. On Friday it was announced that the royal couple would not be visiting a cacao farm in the village of Indian Creek on Sunday morning after protests from villagers.

They were demonstrating after they were told the couple’s helicopter would be landing on their football pitch.

The village is also in a land dispute relating to ancestral land with Fauna & Flora International (FFI), a conservation group of which Prince William is patron.

Nobody works as hard as DJ Lamiez Holworthy does, which often means she prioritizes work over most other things. But now she is determined to be more present, so that she does not live a life full of regrets.
The Dj recently opened up about how much she has always put work first in her life, even though she does take time to be there for other people, going out of her way, when they need her. But she has resolved that this year, she will do better and change that.

She went on Instagram stories to share her thoughts, as she often does. She said that upon her death, she would want people to talk about the fact that they knew she loved them, because she was always present and always showed it to them. She would hate for people to be unsure about where they stand with her, which is part of her motivation to change her life.
We have to wonder whether this was brought on by her recent surgery. The Dj recently shared that she had undergone eye surgery, and apologised, saying she would be taking some time off social media while she heals from the procedure.

Although she did not say what the surgery was for, fans went on to wish her a quick recovery. And it seems that she did heal rather fast, seeing as she is back to her gigs and on social media, and we love to see it.

Perhaps undergoing the procedure and not being able to work or be online showed her how valuable her social life is, bringing on this change of heart. Either way, we support her decision – you can never go wrong with being more present in life.

She also continued to display her kind and selfless heart by sharing how happy she feels for others when they win. She shared a post that encouraged people to congratulate others when they win, because life is hard enough as it is.

“You lose absolutely nothing by celebrating others,” she wrote, “Goa nyewa mo lefatsheng! Anyone winning gives me hope that I too can achieve it all.

Two Bulawayo residents were hit by trains and seriously injured on the same day but in different locations, the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) has said.

Lady Phiri (42), from Tshabalala suburb, was hit by a passenger train along the track that separates Sizinda suburb and Westgate Complex on 11 March around 4 AM.

The train was travelling from the Bulawayo NRZ main station to Luveve Sideway to pick up commuters bound for the city centre.

Phiri sustained serious head injuries and was ferried to Mpilo Hospital where her condition was said to be serious.

On the same day at around 4.20 AM, a male person was hit by a train in Mpopoma and sent to a hospital.

In the case of Phiri, NRZ acting public relations manager Martin Banda said Reginald Mujakachi, the locomotive engineman, saw her trying to cross the railway line.

Mujakachi sounded the horn, applied emergency brakes, but it was too late as the train hit Phiri.

Phiri was in the company of her brother Sibongile Masuku, who had safely crossed the railway line.

Banda expressed concern over the increasing number of people being hit by trains along the rail. He said:

The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) has observed with concern, the disturbing and increasing incidences of people being hit by trains, as well as suicide cases along the railway system countrywide in recent weeks and months.

It is saddening to note that the incidents continue to occur at undesignated rail level crossings, despite the fact that all pedestrians, cyclists, drivers of both light and heavy vehicles are aware of the need to exercise extreme caution, whenever they are approaching railway lines.

Let us all act and be responsible when near the railway lines as responsible citizens, it is also pertinent to mention that train drivers always hoot when they suspect a person to be very close to the track and in general from a distance of about 1km and also 20 metres, before approaching all rail level crossings, as a warning to pedestrians, cyclists, motorists and heavy transport drivers as well as public transport drivers to stop or move away from the train path.

As an organisation, we are saddened by these incidents and wish the injured a speedy recovery while we mourn with those who lost their loved ones.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reportedly lost the support of some of his key allies in ZANU PF including Local Government and Public Works Minister July Moyo who have stood with him for decades through thick and thin.

Political observers believe Mnangagwa might be isolated at the December Congress as he has sidelined his old allies in favour of new faces.

Mnangagwa and his deputy, Constantino Chiwenga, are allegedly involved in a latent battle for the control of the ruling party ahead of the December congress and subsequently the 2023 elections.

July Moyo and former State Security minister Owen Ncube are reported to be among senior ZANU PF officials who are no longer loyal to Mnangagwa.

Moyo, who is the ZANU PF secretary for transport and welfare, reportedly played a key role ahead of the November 2017 military coup that ousted the then president Robert Mugabe.

He is also believed to have been supporting Ncube, who was fired from Cabinet by Mnangagwa due to “behaviour inconsistent with the ministerial office”.

Norton Member of Parliament Temba Mliswa (Independent) has consistently accused Moyo of working against Mnangagwa.

The NewsHawks reported a source as saying Moyo is not happy with the manner in which Mnangagwa was aligning with other people of late and pushing his “real people” away. Said a NewsHawks source:

He has been with Mnangagwa for a long and fought many of his battles in the ’90s when he was trying to be the party chairman, in 2004 when he was vying for the party vice-president’s post way until 2014 when he finally became vice-president and ahead of the 2017 military coup. He felt he did a lot but got little reward.

Other ZANU PF bigwigs who are reportedly unhappy with Mnangagwa are ZANU PF secretary for Finance Patrick Chinamasa and secretary for administration Obert Mpofu who were overlooked for Cabinet appointments and were shunted to the ZANU PF headquarters.

Meanwhile, Ncube is reported to be still asking why he was blocked from contesting for the post of provincial chairperson and subsequently fired from his cabinet post.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed Rodney Simukai Kiwa as the Deputy Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

Kiwa holds a Masters’ degree in Public Administration from the University of South Africa and a Bachelor of Administration from the University of Rhodesia.

The appointment was announced by ZEC chairperson Priscilla Chigumba in a statement. She said:

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission is pleased to announce the designation of Commissioner Rodney Simukai Kiwa as Deputy Chairperson of the Commission.

His Excellency, the President, made the appointment in accordance with the law.

Commissioner Kiwa joined the Commission in November 2021. He is an expert in diplomacy, mediation, and conflict resolution and former Deputy Chairperson of the SADC Electoral Advisory Council (SEAC). He is also an independent consultant on Peace and Security.

Commissioner Kiwa worked at the African Union Commission (AU) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in various senior portfolios.

He has also attended several trainings including the Public Service Training School; Diplomatic Training under Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Kenya Foreign Service Institute; United Nations Senior Officials Training Programme and Japan International Cooperation Agency.

Commissioner Kiwa has made several national and international presentations on peacebuilding and conflict resolution.

In a separate statement, Chigumba also announced that Jasper Mangwana will take over as ZEC spokesperson from Joyce Laetitia Kazembe whose term of office ends in July.

• As of 19 March 2022, @1500hrs there were (49) hospitalized cases: New Admissions (3), Asymptomatic (2), mild to moderate (42), severe (5), and (0) in Intensive Care Units. 12 of the 57 hospitalized were vaccinated and 37 were not vaccinated.

Belgium mourned on Sunday after a car ploughed into a crowd of early morning carnival-goers, killing six people and injuring dozens of others, but the authorities ruled out an act of terrorism.

The tragedy took place around 5am as the carnival of Strepy-Bracquegnies, a district in the former coal-mining town of La Louviere, was getting under way.

“At this stage of the investigation, we know that a vehicle slammed into a group (of carnival-goers) and that there are six dead and 26 injured, including 10 people whose life is in danger,” prosecutor Damien Verheyen told reporters at the town’s city hall.

Investigators said the suspects were born in 1988 and 1990 and came from La Louviere, a town near the French border in Belgium’s rust belt. They were not known to the authorities for similar acts.

Chief prosecutor Christian Henry said the two were coming from a nightclub “and had just dropped off another person just before the events. Blood test results were expected on Monday and “will allow us to say if they have consumed drugs”, he told RTBF news.

“Nothing goes in the direction of radicalism or extremism,” he said. The facts have been qualified as murder but we will see what the investigation will reveal and if we should requalify the thing as manslaughter,” he added.

La Louviere mayor Jacques Gobert said there were 150 to 200 people participating in the carnival’s pre-dawn prologue, including the “Gilles” in their garb.

Fabrice Collignon, a Belgian TV presenter, told AFP the procession was under way when in a “snap of the fingers we went from fun and folklore to absolute horror.

The car seemed to “deliberately crashed into the crowd”, said Collignon. Another witness, Theo, told RTBF news he saw a car that moved “very fast and didn’t break”.

Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and other ministers rushed to the scene along with Belgium’s King Philippe, who met first responders in the Strepy-Bracquegnies sports hall, where the morning’s carnival procession began.

“It should have been a day of celebration after a difficult time. It turned into a day of mourning,” De Croo told reporters, noting that the carnival was the first after two years of cancellations because of the coronavirus pandemic

1 (14.75 ounce) can salmon, drained and flaked
2 eggs, beaten
¼ cup garlic and herb-seasoned dry bread crumbs
¼ cup dry potato flakes
1 medium onion, minced
1 clove garlic, minced
¼ teaspoon dried dill weed
¼ teaspoon celery salt
salt and pepper to taste
2 tablespoons olive oil

Directions / Instructions

Step 1

In a medium bowl, mix salmon, eggs, garlic and herb-seasoned dry bread crumbs, dry potato flakes, onion, garlic, dill weed, celery salt, salt, and pepper. Form the mixture into 2 inch balls, and flatten into patties about 1/2 inch thick.

Step 2

Heat olive oil in a medium skillet over medium heat. In batches, cook patties for about 5 minutes on each side, until lightly browned.

Troubled Chinese property developer giant Evergrande and all its units suspended trading in Hong Kong Monday morning, according to a notice to the stock exchange. China’s property firms have struggled in the wake of Beijing’s drive to curb excessive debt in the real estate sector, as well as rampant consumer speculation.

Among those embroiled in the crisis is Evergrande, one of the country’s largest developers, which has been involved in restructuring negotiations after racking up $300-billion in liabilities.

On Monday the company announced that trading will be “halted” without giving a reason. Accordingly, all structured products relating to the company will also be halted from trading at the same time,” said a notice to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Shares of Evergrande Property Services Group and China Evergrande New Energy Vehicle Group were suspended.

The suspension — the second this year — comes ahead of an expected $2-billion repayment obligation on Wednesday, and another next month of $1.4-billion.

The embattled developer was labelled as being in default by international ratings firms in December after it failed to repay liabilities on time.

Earlier struggles to pay suppliers and contractors due to the debt crisis led to sustained protests from homebuyers and investors at the group’s Shenzhen headquarters in September.
