Struggling Everton made Liverpool fight for their win with a well-organised and disciplined performance that will give them hope they can still avoid the drop but was not enough to deny Jurgen Klopp’s quadruple-chasing side.

Liverpool can find different ways to get the job done and after blowing Manchester United aside on Tuesday they demonstrated patience to finally break down Everton’s stubborn resistance in what could prove to be a priceless win.

The deadlock was broken after 62 minutes when Andy Robertson arrived at the far post in front of the Kop to head home Mo Salah’s cross.

Everton could not respond, although the outstanding Anthony Gordon shot across the face of goal, and Liverpool wrapped up the win when substitute Divock Origi tormented the neighbours once again when he headed in Luis Diaz’s bicycle kick with six minutes left.

Most mother get postpartum depression but for Zola she has managed to not fall into that trap by asking for help from other people.

“I promised myself a self-care journey after giving birth, simply because the journey of parenting is not easy and you forget about yourself so easily,” she wrote.

“Postpartum depression is real with all the life changes a mother goes through, and let me not even start with the waves of exhaustion I’ve been experiencing. So I am actively going to fetch my life.”

On the other hand, Prince Kaybee is going back into the game by releasing his 5th studio album, Gemini.

“My 5th studio Album titled Gemini is almost ready, been crafting this piece day and night. Look out for release date,” he announced.

We hope this album does better than his previous project, which was a 22-track project before this one, called The 4th Republic. The failure of the album according to Prince is due to the competitive Amapiano genre.

French President Emmanuel Macron defeated his far-right rival Marine Le Pen on Sunday by a comfortable margin, securing a second term and heading off what would have been a political earthquake.

Cheers of joy erupted as the results appeared on a giant screen at the Champ de Mars park at the foot of the Eiffel tower, where Macron supporters waved French and EU flags. People hugged each other and chanted “Macron”.

In contrast, a gathering of dejected Le Pen supporters erupted in boos and whistles at a sprawling reception hall on the outskirts of Paris.

Le Pen admitted defeat but vowed to keep up the fight, with the June parliamentary elections in mind.

“I will never abandon the French,” she said to supporters chanting “Marine! Marine!”

The first pollsters’ projections showed Macron securing around 57-58% of the vote. Such estimates are normally accurate but may be fine-tuned as official results come in from around the country throughout the evening.

But Macron can expect little to no grace period after many, especially on the left only voted for him reluctantly to block the far-right from winning. Protests that marred part of his first mandate could erupt again quite quickly, as he tries to press on with pro-business reforms.

“We will not spoil the victory … but (Le Pen’s) National Rally has its highest score ever,” Health Minister Olivier Veran told BFM TV.

“There will be continuity in government policy because the president has been reelected. But we have also heard the French people’s message,” he added, pledging change.

A first major challenge will be the parliamentary elections in June and opposition parties on the left and right will immediately start a major push to try to vote in a parliament and government opposed to Macron.

Philippe Lagrue, 63, technical director at a theatre in Paris, said earlier in the day he had voted for Macron after voting for the hard-left Jean-Luc Melenchon in the first round.

He said he would vote for Melenchon again in June. “Melenchon Prime Minister. That would be fun. Macron would be upset, but that’s the point.”

Ifop, Elabe, OpinionWay and Ipsos pollsters projected a 57.6-58.2% win for Macron.

Victory for the centrist, pro-European Union Macron was immediately hailed by allies as a reprieve for mainstream politics that have been rocked in recent years by Britain’s exit from the European Union, the 2016 election of Donald Trump and the rise of a new generation of nationalist leaders.

“Bravo Emmanuel,” European Council President Charles Michel, wrote on Twitter. “In this turbulent period, we need a solid Europe and a France totally committed to a more sovereign and more strategic European Union.”

Macron will join a small club – only two French presidents before him have managed to secure a second term. But his margin of victory looks to be tighter than when he first beat Le Pen in 2017, underlining how many French remain unimpressed with him and his domestic record.

That disillusion was reflected in turnout figures, with France’s main polling institutes saying the abstention rate would likely settle around 28%, the highest since 1969.

Against a backdrop of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the ensuing Western sanctions that have exacerbated a surge in fuel prices, Le Pen’s campaign homed in on the rising cost of living as Macron’s weak point.

She promised sharp cuts to fuel tax, zero-percent sales tax on essential items from pasta to diapers, income exemptions for young workers and a “French first” stance on jobs and welfare.

Macron meanwhile pointed to her past admiration for Russia’s Vladimir Putin as showing she could not be trusted on the world stage, while insisting she still harboured plans to pull France out of the European Union – something she denies. read more

In the latter part of the campaign as he sought the backing of left-leaning voters, Macron played down an earlier promise to make the French work longer, saying he was open to discussion on plans to raise the retirement age from 62 to 65.

In the end, as viewer surveys after last week’s fractious televised debate between the two testified, Le Pen’s policies – which included a proposal to ban people from wearing Muslim headscarves in public – remained too extreme for many French.

Ex-merchant banker Macron’s decision to run for the presidency in 2017 and set up his own grassroots movement from scratch up-ended the old certainties about French politics – something that may come back to bite him in June’s parliamentary elections.

The Registrar-General’s (RG) Office says it has issued over 50 000 electronic passports (e-passports) at its offices in Harare and Bulawayo from January to April this year.

In an interview with The Sunday Mail, the Registrar-General, Henry Machiri, said there are plans to open eight other provincial e-passport offices by the end of June this year. Said Machiri:

We started producing passports on January 18, 2022, and as of today (April 21, 2022), we have issued 51 080 e-passports.

These are e-passports applied for by people in Harare since January and since March for those in Bulawayo.

I can now say that we have enough material and we have ramped up production.

With the current system, the Government signed a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT), whereby GP invests and they will be paid gradually.

So, in terms of consumables, they are now readily available.

He also said the other eight provinces will have passport offices in their provincial centres by 30 June. Machiri said:

The other provincial towns should have these centres by June 30, as was promised by early this year.

We still stand by that date. These are Lupane in Matabeleland North, Gwanda in Matabeleland South, Gweru for Midlands, Masvingo for Masvingo, Mutare for Manicaland, and Marondera for Mashonaland East, Chinhoyi for Mashonaland West and Bindura for Mashonaland Central.

On the issue of the online passport application system, whose booking system is now live, Machiri said the system seeks to shorten the time applicants will spend at the RG offices as they will apply for the documents in the comfort of their homes or offices. He said:

It is ongoing work but I can assure you that before the end of the year, it will be possible that people can apply in the comfort of their offices or homes.

However, this does not mean that one applies and the passport is delivered to their doorstep. A travel document is a secured document and has to be given to the rightful owner.

So one can apply online and be notified of when to come to have their biometric information taken so that we make sure that the information on their passport is correct, this is the international standard.

All this seeks to shorten the time when the client is at our offices.

In an interesting turn of events, the ZIFA Congress has recalled the Felton Kamambo-led executive at an Extraordinary General Meeting held in Harare this Saturday.

Forty five out of the fifty-eight Zifa councillors turned up for the watershed extraordinary meeting, with 43 of them voting to boot out board members Felton Kamambo, Philemon Machana and Brighton Malandule.

The three did not turn up for the meeting that was attended by other board members including Sugar Chagonda, Barbara Chikosi and Farai Jere, who all were spared the boot after responding to their allegations.

The Congress also nullified the suspension of vice president Gift Banda as they prepare to plead with the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) to lift the suspension of the board as ordered by world football governing body, FIFA.

“We have recalled them according to the constitution and we have created a working committee that will write to SRC to have the suspension of the executive lifted, it’s a long road but we are determined to make sure that Zimbabwe participates in the Afcon qualifiers, it’s a process but we are determined, said ZIFA Councillor, Martin Kweza.

It remains to be seen if FIFA will accept this meeting as binding after the world football governing body made it clear that Zimbabwe’s suspension from international football will only be lifted if Kamambo and his colleagues were re-instated.

A 35-year-old woman from Marondera has appeared in court on allegations of human trafficking.

Farisai Mupeti appeared before a Harare magistrate this Friday to answer to allegations of human trafficking after luring unsuspecting Zimbabweans to Oman where they were subjected to exploitation and work without pay.

It is the state’s case that the complainant, Murriam Zihumo reportedly left Harare in November last year under the impression that she has secured a lucrative job in Dubai, but was shocked to find herself in Oman, where she was subjected to three months of exploitation by unknown people who had literally bought her.

In a separate incident, Mupeti is said to have tricked another woman identified as Isabel Mushoriwa using the same modus operandi in January this year.

The two women are said to have escaped after claiming that they needed to attend to urgent family issues, with one of them lying that her mother had died.

Mupeti was arrested after the two women returned home and reported the matter to the police.

She was remanded out of custody to the 1st of June since she is breastfeeding.

Her suspected accomplice, Nyasha Allioms, is still at large and believed to be in Oman.

ANDY Muridzo has suspended his manager Onsimo Sain amid claims of mismanagement of funds and gross misconduct.

In a letter dated April 21, Muridzo wrote to Sain advising him of his suspension.

Ironically, Muridzo posted a video on his Instagram account accusing Sain of having built a house using his funds.

Muridzo’s letter reads:

“This note constitutes official notice of your suspension from Andy Muridzo & Jeetaz Band because of your most recent actions which include mismanagement of funds, gross negligence, ill treatment of the band and insubordination.

“Your suspension is until further notice.

“Below are the terms of your suspension:

1) Unless contacted beforehand, you are not permitted to interfere with the administration of all Muridzo Fan groups with immediate effect.

2) You are not permitted to use the official social media platforms including email to correspond with fans and stakeholders.

3) We advise you to refrain from making any public comments about the Muridzo brand as this is beyond your role

4) Please make yourself available should we need further information from you.

“I wish to reiterate that you should always remember your position, roles and responsibilities within the organisation, and you are expected to strongly adhere to the band’s policies and procedures.

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has announced new diesel and petrol prices effective 25 April 2022.

Diesel now costs US$1.71 and ZWL$264.77 per litre while the price of petrol has been increased to US$1.63 and ZWL$252.40 per litre.

In a public notice, ZERA said prices have been set in accordance with oil price patterns on the international market. Part of the notice reads:

Prices have been set in accordance with oil price patterns on the international market, which the Authority is continuously monitoring. The public and operators are advised that the blending ratio is now at E10.

Operators may sell petroleum products below the prescribed prices depending on their trading advantages and should display prices in a prominent place as provided for by the fuel pricing regulations.

Before this latest price adjustment, the price of diesel was US$1.60 and ZWL$213.90 per litre while the price of petrol was US$1.59 and ZWL$213.49 per litre.

Residents of Chinhoyi are living under a ticking health time bomb because of raw sewage which is being discharged into Manyame River by the local authority.

Chinhoyi Municipality has been reluctant to implement corrective measures to halt the continuous discharging of sewage into the river, raising fears of a waterborne disease outbreak.

The Council’s actions are in direct contravention of the Environmental Management Act, which prohibits the discharge, or application of any poison or toxic, noxious or distributing matter, radioactive waste or other pollutants, into the aquatic environment.

The local authority has been discharging an average 18 megalitres per day of untreated sewage into the same river, which communities downstream rely on for their domestic and agricultural purposes.

The Environmental Management Agency has already taken Council to court over the same issue. Since 2012, corrective action, in the form of penalties and environmental protection orders, have been issued to the local authority with little success in curbing the continued pollution of Manyame River.

It said in 2012, 2015, and 2020, docket numbers CR12/08/12,CR17/08/15 and CR54/03/2020, were opened after the continued pollution of the river.

EMA said the local authority continues to discharge raw sewage and industrial waste through burst sewer pipes, blocked manholes, three malfunctional pump stations and two sewer treatment plants.

In a media alert, the agency said this has contributed to the deterioration of water quality and exposure of communities and aquatic ecosystems to highly toxic pollution.

“We call upon the Council to expeditiously put in place pollution abatement measures to avoid the continued deterioration of the quality of water in Manyame River.

“Water pollution remains the greatest threat to biological diversity, health food chains, supply of clean water and healthy communities,” said EMA.

Some residents, who spoke to H-Metro, said the Council was failing to address the issue, despite the gravity of the matter.

“Council must treat this issue as a matter of urgency, however, I don’t see its seriousness as evidenced by the numerous tickets of fines issued to them by EMA,” said Collen Sigauke.

“The whole town has become an eyesore due to the torrid smell of raw sewage in all the wards.

“Burst sewer pipes are now the order of the day.”

Anastasia Matope, of Cold Stream, called upon the local authority to prioritise the health of the residents.

“It’s a shame, vanoda kuti cholera outbreak idzokezve,” said Matope.

Joseph Hamandishe said the local authority’s programmes had little to do with environmental issues.

“I don’t think they have any plans, as evidenced by the spillage,” he said.

“The courts must fast-track pollution cases.

Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe has given over 150 young entrepreneurs invaluable Financial Literacy Training through the institution’s Incubator Hub in the six months it was operating after its inception in September 2019 up until the COVID-19 induced shut down early March 2020.

The innovative and financially inclusive Stanbic Incubator Hub was launched in September 2019 with the primary purpose of supporting and empowering budding entrepreneurs and Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

The Incubator Hub is also a way for the Standard Bank Group subsidiary to put its shoulder to the wheel in Government’s efforts to prop up small enterprise business owners as well as the central bank’s financial inclusion agenda.

Stanbic Head of Enterprise Banking, Auxillia Kambasha said the leading financial services institution has used a hybrid approach in attending to the needs of entrepreneurs via a mix of both financial solutions as well as skills training for their benefit under the Incubator Hub.

Due to the induced lockdown and efforts to comply with the Covid 19 restrictions, the Hub closed for any physical programmes in March 2020 and reopened in March 2022.

“Before the Incubator closed, we managed to accommodate over 100 entrepreneurs with the majority of them being entrepreneurs below the age of 30 who we offered co-working space. Over 100 entrepreneurs have gone through Financial Literacy programs while a group of 15 entrepreneurs went through the trainings that were offered pro-borno by Stanbic employees who are subject matter experts,” said Kambasha.

She mentioned that about 65 entrepreneurs attended webinars that were held during the lockdown periods.

Kambasha said that the above statistics were impressive given that the Incubator Hub operated for under five months before COVID-19 caused its shut down.

“The Stanbic Incubator Hub which is a co-workspace for entrepreneurs and hub for innovation closed in March 2020 and we only managed to reopen this year in March. This affected the physical programs that were scheduled for empowering entrepreneurs,” said Kambasha.

She advised that despite the challenges posed by COVID 19, the Incubator Hub received a thumbs up from all key stakeholders with both participants and partners giving a positive response, a situation which has led to growth in partner base as well as improved programming for incubator programs.

On the functions of Enterprise banking at large, Kambasha said that the portfolio seeks to grow entrepreneurs and make a difference in their lives by helping them live their dreams.

Kambasha said the portfolio has grown steadily over the years coupled with general improvement in customer service delivery.

“The improved customer satisfaction is evidenced by an increase in positive feedback as well as high volumes of applications of new accounts reflecting market good standing from existing clientele giving referrals,” said Kambasha.

Measures have been put in place to improve the turn-around time on query resolution as we solution for clients and help them with funding options. Despite the COVID 19 pandemic there has been uninterrupted client engagement and we responded positively to clients that have been negatively impacted by the pandemic as we extended interest holidays as their businesses recover.

Kambasha alluded that the SME department has also successfully nurtured and assisted clients to grow and help them to change their status from being SME to Commercial by Stanbic thresholds.

She said on the whole COVID 19 impacted operations of majority of SMEs through
limited resources to ensure adequate supplies and timeous replenishment of stocks for continued operations

“Collateral remains a hinderance to the growth of many businesses, however, Stanbic has always been coming to the party with several alternative options on offer to assist those that were unable to meet the requirement of collateral. This has seen quite several SMEs benefiting from different funding options that were made available to entrepreneurs. The Bank reviewed service fees downwards for SMEs to ensure survival of organisations that were seriously impacted by Covid 19 lockdown conditions. Some customers downsized their operations while others unfortunately had to close shop,” said Kambasha.

The Bank continues to make efforts to comply with Covid 19 Protocols as it endeavors to protect its customers and staff from the pandemic.

After a teary, water-throwing finale, Season 2 of The Real Housewives of Durban wraps up with a two-part reunion on 6 and 13 May 2022, hosted by Comics Choice’ nominee Donovan Goliath.

Harare City Council has assured residents that it will resume pumping water to households late on Monday, 25 April.

In a statement, this Monday, the City of Harare said that it faced “unprecedented challenges at Warren Control” that disrupted its plans to resume pumping as scheduled. Read the statement:

Dear Residents: We apologise for the late resumption of water supplies to households.

Harare City Council announced on Friday, 22 April, that it would be shutting down Morton Jaffray Water Treatment Plant over the weekend.

Council said this was being done to pave way for the replacement of a corroded reservoir feeder pipe and the installation of reservoir, suction and discharge valves at Warren Control

The City of Harare said the waterworks would be shut down from Friday at 1600 hrs to Sunday 24 April at 1400 hrs.

Prior to the announcement, several suburbs, among them Warren Park, had been without water for three days, forcing residents to buy the precious liquid from the few boreholes available in the suburb.
