PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa’s son, Kudakwashe, has pulled out of the race for Zanu-PF top youth leadership posts at an elective party youth conference slated for next month in the capital.

The ruling party on Sunday held provincial youth conferences across the country, where four candidates from each province were selected to contest for national youth executive posts.

Kudakwashe was reportedly eyeing a top position in the party’s youth league.

Yesterday, he confirmed his withdrawal to NewsDay saying he was already a provincial executive member in the party’s main wing and was fully behind the youth league.

“I decided to withdraw my candidature to pave way for more comrades in the province to have a shot in the national executive elections race. As we gear up for the 2023 plebiscite, it is crucial that Zanu-PF youths have all hands on deck, leading from the front and behind,” Kudakwashe said.

“I continue to serve the youth league as a provincial executive member. The youth in the Midlands province will always be united and speak with one voice, and that is to garner five million votes come 2023.”

Zanu-PF Midlands youth chairperson Ernest Dzoro said the weekend elections went on well.

“Our elections went on well and there was unity,” he said.

The selected candidates in the Midlands province were Phineas Makombe, who came out tops, followed by Nomatter Tsopotsa, Patience Chishumba and Vusimusi Manjonjo.

In Mashonaland East, the late Transport and Infrastructural Development minister Joel Biggie Matiza’s son Batsirai will be representing the province in the national executive.

Others in the national executive are Tawanda Mudowo, Magret Nyerere and Beatrice Kamuche.

After the death of his father, Batsirai announced that he was going to contest for the Murehwa South constituency primary elections, but withdrew at the last minute.

Addressing delegates at the provincial elections at Marondera High School, provincial chairperson Daniel Garwe said it was time to unite and work for the party.

“These elections are over and we are now focusing on working for the party. We are still mobilising five million votes hence we need unity within the party so that we achieve the target in 2023,” he said.

In Matabeleland North province, provincial secretary Bigboy Nkiwane yesterday said the four candidates who won were Thubelihle Ncube (Hwange), Sitsha Mhlanga (Umguza), Allman Ndlovu (Tsholotsho), and Sibangezile Ndlovu (Bubi).

The Zanu-PF national youth conference is slated for May 4 to 8.

Vyno from Big Brother Mzansi Season 3 is rumoured to be cheating on his girlfriend Terry with singer Bontle Smith.

Top Zimbabwean comedian Clive Chigubu has succumbed to Diffuse Large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL), a type of cancer that is incurable. He was 31.

Chigubu who passed on Wednesday morning is survived by a five-year-old daughter. Recently Chigubu told state media that he was suffering from DLBC, a type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), a cancer of the lymphatic system which, according to some medical research, is said to be more common in men than it is in women.

It develops when the body makes abnormal B lymphocytes. He revealed that by the time of the interview he had not yet received any treatment due to the slow processes in the system and also financial constraints.

“This is happening while this cancer is still spreading.” Chigubu said. Scores of fans and industry colleagues took to social media to pour their condolences at the passing away of the larger than life character.

A lone armed robber who stole US$36 000 from a Harare home and used US$10 000 to pay lobola for his wife appeared in court on Monday.

Prosecutors alleged that for several months, Aaron Franscico Machona, 37, terrorised residents of Waterfalls in Harare – including shooting a woman in the head in front of her children.

Machona was charged with murder, attempted robbery, armed robbery and money laundering when he appeared before Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda.

Dzuda remanded him in custody to May 8 after advising him to apply for bail at the High Court.

Anesu Chirenje, for the National Prosecuting Authority, alleged that:

i). on December 9, 2021, at around 2 AM, Machona broke into a house on Woodlands Road in the Uplands area of Waterfalls, pointed a gun at Kelvin Mutundwa, 29, who had woken up to investigate the noise disturbance.

ii). He tied Mutundwa’s hands and legs before stealing US$2 which was in a drawer and three mobile phones. Machona ordered Mutundwa’s wife, Faith Muhuwa, to knock on one of the tenants’ bedrooms and pretend her child was having a medical emergency.

iii). the tenant, Hilary Marufu, 22, opened the door, and found a gun pointed at his head. Machona allegedly demanded valuables and made off with a mobile phone, two wristwatches, necklaces and two bucket hats.

iv). Machona also seized keys to a BMW 3 Series parked outside which he used as his gate-away car. It was later found dumped in Chitungwiza.

v). At around 1.45 AM on January 30, 20222, Machona allegedly broke into Mario Pepa’s home on Ruwa Avenue in Waterfalls, demanded cash from Pepa and his wife. Pepa wrestled Machona who shot through the asbestos roofing as a warning. Machona fled after seeing lights from an approaching vehicle.

vi). That same morning, at around 4 AM, pounced at another property at Picnic Park in Waterfalls where 43-year-old Shamiso Nhera – a housemaid – was alone. Nhera heard the dog barking and woke up to investigate only to be confronted by an armed man in the passage.

Machona allegedly force-marched Nhera to the bedroom where he blindfolded her. Machona allegedly stole:

a). two mobile phones,
b). two laptops
c). expensive perfumes.
d). a safe containing US$36,000 which was mounted inside a fitted wardrobe.
Machona removed Nhera’s blindfold and ordered her to carry the safe out of the house and she complied. After walking some 200 meters, Machona allegedly ordered Nhera to put down the safe, return to the house and never look back.

vii). On March 9, 2022, at midnight, Machona pounced on another house in Uplands, Waterfalls, where 31-year-old Jubilee Utsiwegota, her mother Mavis Utsiwegota, 78, and four children were sleeping. He violently assaulted Mavis with her own walking stick while demanding cash. She handed over US$60 and two mobile phones but Machona kept on the assault until Jubilee tried to restrain him. Machona shot her in the head and she died instantly.

viii). On April 13, around 2 AM, Machona broke into a house on Forbes Road in Uplands, pointed a gun at 50-year-old Archibald Nyikadzino and demanded cash. Nyikadzino handed over US$102. He ordered Nyikadzino to lead him to another room where 39-year-old Clifford Nyakudya was sleeping. He ordered both Nyikadzino and Nyakudya to lie on the floor before taking three mobile phones and US$17. Machona then force-marched the two men into a third bedroom where Jorum Nyikadzino, 35, was sleeping. He took US$70 and a mobile phone.

ix). Machona used some of the proceeds of his crimes to pay lobola for his wife who has a Mozambican father and Zimbabwean mother. Machona travelled to Mozambique for the event, paying out US$10 000.

x). He also allegedly purchased a Toyota Runx vehicle and a residential stand at Unit C in Seke on which he built a three-roomed house.

Machona was arrested after police received information that he had been seen with a gun. When he was interrogated, he allegedly gave up information on his months-long one-man crime wave.

The matters of love and break up are always complicated, and every individual takes his or her own time to move on from the past.

However, science indicates that heartbreak impacts men and women differently and both the sexes have different ways to cope with this situation.

Interestingly, women experience more emotional and physical pain after a break-up but they tend to move on faster than men.

Here are all the details of a study done on this subject

The study
This study was done on a massive scale and got published in the Evolutionary Behavioral Sciences journal. The researchers from the Binghamton University and University College London interviewed 5,705 participants from 96 countries and asked them to rate the emotional and physical pain of a break up on a scale of one (none) to 10 (unbearable).

How females respond to a heartbreak
The study indicated that women get more negatively affected, both emotionally and physically, by a heartbreak. Women participants rated their ‘emotional anguish’ to be 6.84 post break up and whereas, the figure turned out to be 6.58 for men. Further, women rated their ‘physical pain’ to be 4.21 on an average and men’s was 3.75.

The upside
While women suffer more on an emotional and physical level after a break-up, but they also tend to recover more fully and come out stronger from this experience.

What about men?
While women constructively channelise their emotions and tend to understand themselves and their needs from a relationship better, men have a completely different way to deal with the situation. The study says men either ‘experience nothing’ or may resort to alcohol, drug abuse or violence, and are less likely to come up with any kind of personal realisations.

Men take longer to move on
The research indicates that men take longer time than women and struggle more to move on. In fact, the researchers observed that many male participants suffered from PRG (Post relationship Grief) at the time of the study even if they had parted ways more than a year ago.

​The evolution theory
The researchers explained how biology plays a role in this situation and suggested that women are evolved to invest more in a relationship than men. Craig Morris, lead author of this study shared, “A brief romantic encounter could lead to nine months of pregnancy followed by many years of lactation for an ancestral woman, while the man may have ‘left the scene’ literally minutes after the encounter, with no further biological investment. It is this ‘risk’ of higher biological investment that, over evolutionary time, has made women choosier about selecting a high-quality mate. Hence, the loss of a relationship with a high-quality mate ‘hurts’ more for a woman.”

Why both the sexes react differently
Interestingly, for men, who have evolved from competing for female attention, losing a ‘high-quality’ mate might not ‘hurt’ initially. However, they start feeling the pain once they realise their loss. Craig explain, “A man will likely feel the loss deeply and for a very long period of time as it ‘sinks in’ that he must ‘start competing’ all over again to replace what he has lost — or worse still, come to the realisation that the loss is irreplaceable.”

One of the citizens feeling the pinch of rising prices in Zimbabwe is Christine Kayumba. She says she can’t afford to buy bread for her four dependents on her salary of less than $250 a month — because a loaf now costs more than $2.

The high school English teacher says she cooks a bland, thin porridge three times a day, and rarely serves rice as it is now expensive too.

“This price increase of bread has reduced me to nothing,” she told VOA. “I don’t feel I am still the mother figure, the bread winner for my family. Because I am failing to provide, each and every morning they wake up crying for porridge, crying for bread.”

Ukraine is, one of the world’s largest exporters of wheat, has led to bread prices soaring in importing countries like Zimbabwe. Most impacted are children, said Kayumba, as shortage means they are forced to seek food elsewhere.

“You see bread is something with these children. They want it. Even from next doors, if they see them [neighbors] drinking tea, they will eat there.”

Tafadzwa Musarara is the chairman of the Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe, which imports grain. He said the conflict is the main cause for the price hike.

“As early as November last year, we were unable to load wheat from that region because political tensions had gone high, and insurers revoked their coverages. This is a supplier who was supplying us with good wheat, accounting for 65% of the wheat that we need.”

Musarara said the impact of the crisis was immediately felt in Zimbabwe. “Suddenly we woke up without that supply… the inflation on the price of bread, the increase on the price of bread is an imported factor.”

Musarara added that a consignment of Zimbabwe’s wheat has been stuck in the embattled city of Mariupol for weeks now. He added that the war is pushing people to look for ways to meet the need in the country. “Now we are making our efforts to see how we can get [it] from other countries. [In] Australia, there is the issue of floods, which affected their agriculture. We are now pushing towards getting wheat from Canada and other countries.”

Andrew Matibiri is the CEO of Zimbabwe Agricultural Society, a group responsible for promoting agricultural development in the country. He said the current wheat shortage the country is facing can also serve as an opportunity.

“This is an opportune time for our farmers to produce more, for the government and the private sector to work together, hand in hand, to support farmers who want to go into wheat production,” Matibiri said. “And thank God! We have been having some late rainfalls, which have been helping land preparations. So, all in all, the future of wheat production in this country is good.”

Matibiri said he has confidence in his country’s capacity to face the challenge. “We have shown that we can produce enough for our needs and to produce even more so that we can export to neighboring countries and others who are in need of wheat.”

For Kayumba, that would certainly be good news since she can’t afford to buy bread for her family as it is currently double the price it used to be.

A Congolese prophet has married four women, all v!rgins, in a colorful wedding in eastern Congo.

Prophet Zagabe Chiluza reportedly married the first wife before marrying the four, claiming that he adopted the idea of polygamy from the Bible, using Jacob, who had four wives, as an example.

A girl (17) from Mucheke in Masvingo has been adding sleeping tablets to her mother’s food and sneaking out of the house to have nice time with her lover in the same street.

The girl who resides along Edward Mundondo Street cannot be named because of her age but the boyfriend who stays 13 houses away in the same street is Pardon Tinashe Mazvimba (22). The sleeping tablets were actually served on the food for the whole family, according to court papers.

The girl and her boyfriend both pleaded guilty when they appeared before Masvingo Magistrate, Farai Gwitima and were remanded in custody until April 27, 2022, when the ruling is to be delivered.

The complainant Esther Musakaruka (38) did not understand the reasons for her unusually good and deep sleeps until she came across mobile phone messages between her daughter and boyfriend.

Lady Du was one of the 100 performers at Cotton Fest and she shared the stage with some of the hottest Hip Hop acts. But her performance did not receive the hype it would have from a regular crowd, landing an egg on her face.

At the 2-day event, fans were blessed with performances from AKA, fan-favorite Cassper Nyovest, Big Zulu, and Boity. Others included Sjava, Kamo Mphela, Daliwonga, and even Riky Rick’s brother.

The hosts of the 2-day event were Lula Odiba from YFM, MTV Base’s Tshego Koke, Riky Rick’s protégé Uncle Vinny and comedian who also is an Amapiano artist Robot Boii.

Lady Du was also a performer at Cotton Fest but a clip shared from her performance shows the crowd unresponsive. She performed her banger Umlando but there was no hype whatsoever.

Big Brother Mzansi winner Michelle “Mphowabadimo” Mvundla said there were certain things she could not do in the house as a “child of the ancestors”.

In a Castle Milk Stout Ancestors’ Day panel discussion this week, Mpho spoke about her experience in the Big Brother house.

The star’s fans often defended her against housemates who mocked her spirituality and she trended every week as a result.

“I really believe it was not by coincidence, I went there to represent a black child who walks with elders. I had to protect the sacredness of the community I stand for.

“There so many things that I couldn’t do, like burning incense. Even me taking snuff on the show was looked at as something dirty, and it was also our own black youth who were saying those things. It was very sad to hear.

“I went in there to show people that African spirituality is freedom. It will not box you or cage you as long as you know who you stand for and because, if really we do not want to believe what we are, then I believe we shouldn’t walk around with our surnames — we should use our names.”

The mother of one said African spirituality is not limited to traditional healers. In a broader context, it’s in the bloodline.

“First of all, when it comes to ancestors I would like to say that the general misconception is when everyone think of ancestors, they think of iSangoma or traditional healers. It’s actually deeper than that, it’s our bloodline, it is who we are. Because the minute you know isbongo sakho or who you are, that is touching on the meaning and the history of who you are.

So I believe that they are our angels, those are our guides. Those are the people that we relate to. So when we appease our ancestors that is the connection that we have with our ancestors.”
