South African celebrities evidently spare nothing when it comes to designer clothes and expensive cars. DJ Zinhle and her love Murdah Bongz are a true testament to this and almost always step out wearing some of the most expensive clothes and accessories.

The couple have both stepped out recently wearing Gucci suits which costs a pretty penny and it definitely did not go unnoticed. Zinhle Jiyane known by her stage name DJ Zinhle has built an empire for herself.

The musician not only has a number of hit songs but also makes a fortune from her Era accessories and Hair Majesty weave businesses.

DJ Zinhle and Murdah Bongz

Last year Zinhle, who has a daughter named Kairo Forbes with rapper AKA (Kiernan Forbes), welcomed a second child, Asante, with her current boyfriend Murdah Bongz (Bongani Mohosana).

Meanwhile, Zinhle recently attended an event wearing a Gucci pantsuit which cost a whopping R54k. She paired the expensive two-piece with Chanel slides that are worth R13k. Meanwhile, it appears that the Gucci suit is a couples thing because just a few days earlier, Murdah was spotted wearing one quite similar.

The pair frequently rock up in labels and appear to have a particular liking for Gucci – although it appears anything with a label appeals to them.

Event organizer Deborah “Dee” Dlamini is gatvol with entertainer Zodwa Wabantu. She told the publication that the dancer didn’t show up to her event in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni. This as she was booked to perform at the Men’s Cave event, held at The Farm Guest Lodge on Saturday, 4 June.

Dee said what made her angry was that Zodwa Wabantu, whose real name is Zodwa Libram, had asked for a deposit of R10 000 for the R20 000 gig. But she didn’t show up.

“I only want her to acknowledge that she made a mistake or forgot, and send an apology. She must also refund me,” said Dee.

She said that all she wanted was her money.

“I also need that R10 000. I just need what is mine so we can work together in the future. I love her and I don’t see bad blood between us,” Dee said.

Zodwa told the People’s Paper that she was going to pay Dee back the money she had received for the booking.

“Yes, I know Dee. It’s just that I was held back by amadlozi to not go as they needed my attention during that day,” she said.

She further sent a sincere apology to the event organizer and her fans for not showing up.

“I have to pay back the money as it belongs to them. This was not me wanting to not go, but my ancestors who said I should remain at home. To my loyal fans in Joburg, I am so sorry. I promise I will do better next time.”

WATCH: Zimbabwean man arrested for buying human toes for R400 000 to R1.2 million per toe

A Zimbabwean man who was recorded on a video claiming that he has access to a buyer of human toes has been arrested and appeared in court.

David Kaseke, 40, a cellphone dealer from Harare, appeared in a video saying he was an agent for a syndicate that bought human toes for between R400 000 (about US$26 000) and R1.2 million (US$78 000).

The video went viral and the government launched a probe which found it was a joke taken out of context.

However, because of the social media frenzy, the government said the joke had become part of a mission to tarnish the country’s image.

It is the State’s case that Kaseke’s joke, “materially interfered with the comfort, convenience, peace of the public as he had wantonly and mischievously raised [a] false alarm to the public”.

The police charge sheet stated that at around 16:00 on 27 May, Kaseke was approached by a photographer from state media tabloid H Metro at Harare’s Ximex Mall, a haven for informal traders.

The photographer was there to establish if rumours about the toe trade were true.

In response to the photographer, the State said “the accused told the photographer under camera that he was the agent of the toe buyers and was charging US$200 (about R3 000) for [an] agent fee”.

In the video, Kaseke said a big toe could fetch as much as R1.2 million.

When he saw his joke had gotten out of hand, after a series of interviews days later, the State alleged Kaseke “indicated that he was drunk and joking”.

He appeared before Harare magistrate Minel Narotam and was released on Z$8 000 (R400) bail and will be back in court on Friday.

Actor Mangaliso Ngema charged with rape

A local publication has revealed that the former Lithapo and Generations actor Mangaliso Ngema was charged with raping his sister and has been released on R5000 bail.

Ngema first made headlines this week (5 June) when blogger Musa Khawula revealed that the actor repeatedly raped his sister Queen Ngema and tried to silence her.

The controversial actor Mangaliso Ngema who’s known for his roles in Generations and Lithapo reportedly appeared at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 9 June after being charged with raping his sister for two years.

A local publication also added that he was arrested by Sandton Police Station last week for allegedly raping his sister whose identity was revealed by Musa Khawula.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) South Gauteng spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane confirmed that the thespian was released on bail after being arrested for rape.

Mjonondwane told the publication that the actor would appear on August 4 this year, possibly to tender a plea.

His sister alleged that he asked her to move in with him after she had lost her child in a car accident and that he sexually violated her while his wife was out of the country.

It is believed she’s moved out of his house after opening a case against him and is now hiding in a place of safety.

A local publication also reported Ngema in 2020 when his Lithapo co-star Lorraine Moropa accused him of sexual harassment and was later fired by Quizzical Pictures with immediate effect.

Moropa who currently plays the character of Olerato in Mzansi Magic’s The Queen alleged that the thespian would grab his genitals while looking at her backside.

In a since-deleted Instagram post, she said it was painful that someone who was supposed to protect and guide her in the entertainment industry violated her human rights.

Moropa accused the colleague of undressing her by the way he looks at her and of grabbing his genitals on a set while looking at her “a**s”.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa admits price hike crisis

$

President Emmerson Mnangagwa admitted that the country is experiencing a food price hike crisis, but blamed it on saboteurs and supply chain monopolies. Addressing scores of Zanu-PF supporters at Murewa centre, Mnangagwa promised villagers that his administration would deal with the food crisis.

“I know you are suffering because of price issues, especially in the food sector. They are doing this to sabotage us; they want you to turn against us. This is because we have few companies and they monopolise the food sector.”

“As government we are doing much to break this monopoly, especially on the supply side. One of the remedies is to suspend import duty on basic goods,” he added as the villagers interjected saying they were really feeling the pinch of the country’s economic hardships.

Zimbabwe is currently experiencing massive food shortages coupled with frequent price increases and a poor 2021/22 agricultural season due to low rainfall.
Prices of basic commodities like bread and other foodstuffs have gone beyond the reach of many. Bread now costs as much as $945.

Mnangagwa promised that the bread price issue will be solved soon because the country will be producing enough wheat.

“We found out that we need 470 000 metric tonnes of wheat in this country per year. We used to produce wheat that would last for two months while importing the rest. We then came up with ideas to increase wheat productivity, and our wheat is now lasting us 11 months, hence the remainder is imported. We are going to have wheat that lasts us 13 months next month. It will be sufficient, hence bread prices will go down,” he said.

Mnangagwa addressed the villagers soon after officially opening a Registrar-General’s office at Murewa centre, whose construction started about 17 years ago.

Promising the villagers free food handouts to deal with food insecurity, Mnangagwa said: “We had erratic rains in some areas this past season. We are aware that because of drought some areas are experiencing food shortages. We will liaise with your Minister of State in Mashonaland East (Aplonia Munzverengwi) and ensure that you will get free food (maize).”

He also added that the country would soon be harvesting enough maize due to interventions which saw the establishment of irrigation schemes to mitigate climate change effects.

Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda barred by State security agents

$
0
0

SPEAKER of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda was on Wednesday barred by State security agents from attending a crucial Zanu-PF politburo meeting as the ruling party hounds him over his recent call for a diaspora vote and the appointment of a second vice-president.

Mudenda courted the ire of Zanu-PF when he said the Constitution should be amended to allow millions of Zimbabweans outside the country to vote in the 2023 elections.

He also called for a speedy appointment of a second vice-president in the spirit of the 1987 Unity Accord after former Vice-President Kembo Mohadi resigned following a messy s.e.x scandal.

Only Zimbabweans on diplomatic missions and civil servants outside the country are allowed to vote and Mnangagwa has been evasive about the appointment of the second VP.

There are also claims that Mudenda is reportedly positioning himself to replace Mohadi. Party fanatics have been circulating pictures of Mudenda allegedly dining with foreign embassy officials, saying he is compromised and not serving party interests.

“Mudenda was barred from attending the politburo meeting by some State security agents because people in the party are not happy with the diaspora vote which he called for recently,” a Zanu-PF source said.
When contacted for comment, Mudenda curtly said: “That’s nonsense,” before dropping the call.

Zanu-PF political commissar and acting spokesperson Mike Bimha said: “He (Mudenda) was asked to be excused from the politburo by the President Emmerson Mnangagwa since he had a question-and-answer session in Parliament. President Mnangagwa realised that Hon Mudenda was in the politburo when we started the meeting at 2pm, the time the question-and-answer session starts in Parliament.”

But on Wednesday, Mnangagwa read the riot act to Mudenda during the politburo meeting, saying personal views should not be paraded in the public as party policy.

“We are a party united by our shared ideology and common values. All of us are subject to the collective wisdom of the party. The correct party line must be adhered to once a collective decision has been made. Personal views and opinions must never be smuggled to assume the status of being a party policy,” Mnangagwa said.

Last week, Zanu-PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa chastised Mudenda saying: “It’s okay for Parliament, as the electorate of the sovereign people of Zimbabwe, to express their certain views.

“We also belong to a party and we have the majority. It’s unbecoming when some of our members express views in Parliament about certain issues. We have a caucus at the party. Why would somebody from the ruling party want to go and express things about the diaspora or express things about when the President should be electing a vice-president?”

“We should discuss them here. To go out and start talking out of turn is not the Zanu-PF way. There is no problem in having variant views, but let’s discuss them if you are a party member. As the spokesperson of the party, I appeal for discipline from our party members.”

Presidential spokesperson George Charamba later called Mudenda to order saying he had overstepped his mandate as Speaker of the National Assembly.

Mthwakazi Republic Party petitions President Emmerson Mnangagwa over State brutality

$

THE Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) has petitioned President Emmerson Mnangagwa over State brutality on its members following incarceration of nine members for violence.

Last week, Bulawayo magistrate Tavengwa Sangster jailed nine MRP members. Welcome Moyo and Mongameli Xukuthwayo Mlotshwa were jailed for 36 months, while the other seven aged between 50 and 73; Nkosinathi Ncube, Tinos Nkomo, Levison Ncube, Sibongile Banda, Busi Moyo, Ackim Ndebele and Maxwell Nkosi were slapped with 33-month jail terms each.

Party leader Mqondisi Moyo yesterday wrote to Mnangagwa accusing him of violating his party members’ rights.

The petition was copied to Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga, Justice minister Ziyambi Ziyambi, Home Affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe, Police Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services Commissioner-General Moses Chinobvu and Bulawayo magistrate Tavengwa Sangster.

He also copied the British embassy, the United States of America embassy, Australian embassy and the United Kingdom’s House of Lords.

“I want to draw your attention to the nine members of my party who got arrested on March 10, 2021 for visiting Bulawayo Central Police Station to enquire about a failed abduction on me by State security agents who numbered about 30,” Moyo wrote.

“Some were in military uniform, police uniform, while others were in civilian clothing and were heavily armed, which was enough evidence of their intention to harm, either by killing or abduction. On the same night, your men also visited one of my security personnel and our national youth chairperson. Luckily the two were not there.”

He said on March 10, members of his party visited Bulawayo Central Police Station to inquire about his arrest, but were violently attacked by the police resulting in some of them getting injured, while nine were arrested.

“I have no doubt the ruling made on the MRP nine is consistent with the statement you made while addressing your party supporters on March 23 in Chitungwiza. In your address, you openly said you were going to shorten the days of our lives if we continued on the path of seeking separation from Zimbabwe.

“Sentencing the nine has been the worst repressive measure by your government. It has come to my attention that you were angered by the removal of the Zimbabwean flag at the Zimbabwe embassy in Pretoria, South Africa, by our youth members. A day before, Sangster and court officials had hinted on a community service sentence.”

Moyo alleged that on the day of their sentencing, a call came from Harare instructing the process to be stopped.

“Welcome was severely beaten inside police premises. The elderly Nkomo (73), Levison (62) and Banda (57) could not have committed violence based on their ages, and as they are known to be non-violent.”

He accused the State of framing and fabricating cases against his members like it did in the 1980s to late Zapu leaders Dumiso Dabengwa and Lookout Masuku who were arrested without evidence.

“It is clear that Mnangagwa is still using his old 1980s tricks of fixing political opponents. We urge him to stop violating people’s rights through a tribal approach. Instruct the magistrate to reverse the ruling. Depoliticise the Judiciary and the policing services as this is a recipe for civil unrest,” read Moyo’s letter. Moyo told Southern Eye that he was yet to get a response from Mnangagwa‘s office.

‘If I can’t have him, no one can’, says Somizi

Mzansi media personality Somizi Mhlongo spoke about his estranged husband Mohale Motaung, yet again on his reality show which was released on Showmax on Wednesday 1 June.

Somizi Mhlongo revealed that he got his first call from his estranged husband Mohale Motaung in January – after the infamous leaked audio clips by Sunday World and abuse allegations.

It is exactly 13 minutes past 12, 2022 January the one. I’m on Snap(chat), I’m taking a video then I see husband. I’m like what the f******* f***,” he said.

He went on to explain that his friend blocked Mohale from his WhatsApp.

“So Ndo blocked him on WhatsApp. A video call of all things. The caller ID said ‘husband’. I said never, not today. But anyway they shouted at me for still having him saved as husband. It doesn’t matter to me, because I don’t go looking for his number. I have never spoken to this person since day one of everything,” he continued.

In a preview shown for the upcoming episode, Somizi says that if he can’t have him, no one can while speaking about Mohale.

I’m not angry, I don’t hate him… if I can’t have him no one can have him,” he said.

However, because it is a preview for an upcoming episode it is unclear what context is being used. So, this could just be attention-grabbing editing.

Somizi has spoken about Mohale many times on the show so far. However, he took it to the next level when he called Mohale a “robber” and “money heist” after he revealed that the 26-year-old wants 50% of his estate.

“Imagine, he wants half,” he said to MaMkhize on the phone.

“You don’t just walk into someone else’s life, do nothing, and expect to leave with everything. That is… you’re a con artist, you’re a shoplifter, you’re a robber. Actually, there’s another one, money heist,” he said.

Beitbridge border toll fees should be affordable to all

THE Second Republic has since its inception prioritised infrastructure development with the aim of modernising, boosting the country’s productive sectors and ensuring efficient provision of social services to every corner. Some of the development projects have been made possible with the aid of a robust private-public partnerships (PPPs).

In fact, the Government has in the last three years adopted an accelerated drive for infrastructural development in line with the envisaged vision of creating an upper middle-income economy by 2030.

Among other capital projects, the modernisation of Beitbridge Border Post at a cost of US$300 million tops the list of projects being implemented under the PPPs concept. The Government and the Zimborders Consortium is transforming the border under a 17-and-a-half-year build, operate and transfer (BOT) concession.

As part of the agreement, the consortium is providing funding while the Government is providing technical support and the land. In addition, the consortium will recoup its investment through the collection of toll fees and manage the infrastructure for the duration of the concession.

Thereafter, the Government will take full ownership of the infrastructure. The Beitbridge project is being carried out in three phases, with Phases 1 and 2, being the freight and bus terminal have been completed.

The last phase is the construction of a light vehicles’ terminal and out of port works, which include 220 houses for border staff, a sewer oxidation dam, a fire station, an animal plant and quarantine, roads, and a reservoir. Some of the projects are at various stages of completion and are set for completion in April next year.

Lack of appropriate infrastructure and non-automation at the country and Sadc’s busiest border post, Beitbridge, had in previous years created a bottleneck to the efficient movement of cargo and people.

Resultantly, this created security challenges, congestion, and delays hence the birth of the Government and Zimborders Consortium BOT concession.

The PPPs model has proved to be effective if one looks at the way the New Limpopo Bridge was built in 1994 in a similar fashion by the New Limpopo Bridge (Ltd) in a 20-year concession that ended in 2014.

At that time, the Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (Zinara) was tasked to take over the collection of the bridge’s tolling revenue.

THE Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (Zinara) The Government also retained most of the NLB staff at the border post to enhance continuity.

However, new challenges have emerged at the port of entry, where Zimborders is now collecting toll fees at the freight and bus terminals.

In fact, a challenging situation is looming with the Beitbridge community raising concern over the new border access toll fees being levied on vehicles by the consortium. They are now calling for the Government to intervene and revise the charges.

In separate interviews this week, community members said the new user fees would adversely affect the town’s economic activities and their source of livelihood, which is anchored on cross-border trade.

The Zimborders Consortium is charging US$40 for light delivery vehicles, US$80 for buses, US$200 for commercial trucks, and US$175 for rigid trucks with a carrying capacity of between 15 tonnes and 20 tonnes.

The charges are in addition to other levies and the New Limpopo Bridge toll fees paid to Zinara and the Vehicle Inspection Department (VID).

As it stands, commercial trucks require at least US$850 to get into Zimbabwe and leave through Beitbridge Border. This includes all the road levies and carbon tax.

Buses and light delivery vehicles need an average of US$300 to access the border both ways. It is also understood that private motorists will part ways with around US$150 to access the border two ways by November this year.

The general consensus among them is that the current toll fees are not realistic and that they will drive most people out of cross-border linked business.

Mr Tafadzwa Chiuta, a representative of Beitbridge Light Cross Border Transporters said at the moment there was no proper communication on the proper traffic flow and toll fees for light vehicles.

In some instances, one might leave for South Africa without paying toll fees and when they return they are told to pay varied figures of between US$40 and US$80 depending on the load they will be carrying.

Representatives of more than 500 informal traders from the town are also saying that service providers such as transporters and suppliers would be forced to pass that cost onto them, which may see prices going up.

Beitbridge Municipality Town Clerk, Mr Loud Ramakgapola said if travel to South Africa was expensive, it would slow down growth or make commodities from that country expensive when sold locally.

He said motorists were already paying the Zinara bridge toll fees, adding that the new toll fees would further burden them.

The state of affairs at Beitbridge, where on 1 June there was a small protest by cross-border traders and transporters, over the new toll fees must be immediately addressed. Fortunately, border security managed to swiftly resolve the situation on the day before it escalated.

It is critical for the Government and its partner to have consultation meetings with all concerned stakeholders to find common ground on the user fees.

Alternatively, they may take a leaf from the NLB model which saw local residents being exempted from toll fees.

Under that setup, those motorists using the New Bridge were paying an average of US$9 and US$23 for light and heavy vehicles respectively in toll fees for a one-way route.

Although the fees might look little, Zimborders might within 17 years, be able to retain its investment and handle more traffic at the border.

The issue of affordability, if not resolved might turn the new look border into a white elephant or an access point for the elites alone.

Ideally, this can’t be good for the investor, considering that some commercial transporters are already moving to other borders including, Plumtree, Kazungula, and Mozambique to avoid the huge toll fees at Beitbridge.

The volume of commercial trucks has remained at a daily average of between 800 and 900, down from the usual 1200 before the transformation of the port of entry. Indications are that traffic via Gobblers-Bridge, between South Africa and Botswana has been gradually rising in the last five months.

Given the current scenario, Zimborders and the Government must engage the concerned parties and adopt a model similar to that of the NLB concession.

During the bridge handover in 2014, NLB shareholders’ representative, Mr Thomas Proustow said since the introduction of the multi-currency system in 2009, the Government had received US$30 million from them in toll fees. He said a total of 10 million vehicles had passed through the Beitbridge border post between 1994 and 2014.

It is understood that over 100 000 transit trucks, 80 000 locally bound trucks, 300 000 light vehicles, 150 000 buses, and seven million travellers are accessing Zimbabwe or South Africa via Beitbridge Border Post annually. A solution to the high Beitbridge toll fees issue must be found now.

Member of popular kwaito group Big Nuz, Danger was granted bail of R1 000 after he was arrested for being in possession of a cocaine bag, valued at R25.

Real name Mzingisi Tshomela, Danger appeared in the Amanzimtoti Magistrates Court on Friday, 10 June, after briefly appearing on Monday and being remanded in custody.

Fellow group member Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo was also seen in court to support him.

One of Danger’s closest friends, who asked not to be named, told the publication that the arrest looked like a plot to discredit him.

“It seems like cops got a tip-off. He was carrying a small bag of cocaine, but not selling it.”

Danger was arrested while members of the group were working on bringing it back. It went off the spotlight after the death of its third member, Sibusiso “R Mashesha” Khomo, in 2015.

Mampintsha started focusing on his solo project at his music company West Ink while Danger released an album alongside Lvovo Derrango.

Last month, Danger and Mampintsha performed as Big Nuz in Richards Bay.
