Jonathan Moyo announces his new political home. EXILED former Zanu-PF Politburo member, Jonathan Moyo, has confirmed that he is an MDC – Alliance supporter with a right to support a candidate of his choice in an election.

In tweets he posted following media reports that he and other former Zanu-PF G40 members, bankrolled MDC President Nelson Chamisa’s presidential election campaign in 2018, Moyo confirmed flighting some advertisements on behalf of the MDC – Alliance, but only as an ordinary party supporter.

“It’s dead propaganda to say “the G40″ funded MDC-A. Fact is @EdmundKudzayi, @PatrickZhuwao & me CREATED & FUNDED OUR SUPPORT for the MDC-A like this ad put in the @DailyNewsZim & @NewsDayZimbabwe,” Moyo twitted.

Edmund Kudzayi is a former Editor of the State-owned Sunday Mail and ally of Moyo while Patrick Zhuwao is a former Cabinet minister and G40 member who is also in self-exile.

“Another example of the content we created & flighted using our own resources is the YouTube video ad below. We did it not as MDC-A consultants nor its members, which we are not & have not sought to be, but as MDC-A SUPPORTERS with a right to support our choice in an election.

“In Zimbabwe some crackpot parties, political upstarts, illiterates, pundits & internet trolls do not understand the basic political & electoral tenet that in an election, it’s the voters who choose the candidate & not the candidate who chooses the voters!” Moyo said.

However, Chamisa lost the presidential election to Zanu-PF candidate Emmerson Mnangagwa by a small margin. The main opposition leader has since not accepted the results claiming the poll was rigged by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) on behalf of Mnangagwa.

Why is Manchester United being criticised more than Arsenal

Manchester United full-back Luke Shaw has questioned why the Red Devils are being criticized more than Arsenal, who are worse off this season.

United and Arsenal were the Premier League’s top sides during the days of Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger, but both are now struggling to make the top four in recent seasons.

The Manchester outfit have received more of the criticism this season, which doesn’t sit well with the full-back as the Gunners sit two spots behind United in 11th.

“I’ve had to have a thick skin. Sometimes it’s easy for people to forget what I’ve actually been through,” Shaw told The Mirror.

“You need to have a thick skin to play football anywhere, but especially at the biggest club in the world here at United. Everyone’s watching and wants to have a go whenever you lose.

“They’re just waiting to criticize the moment anything goes wrong but that’s part and parcel of playing for United.

“No disrespect to Arsenal who are a fantastic club, but they’re not exactly having the greatest of seasons and it’s hardly mentioned.

“I find it quite funny that if it’s United, everyone criticizes, but Arsenal doesn’t get a mention.

“Look, we know when we haven’t been good enough and at times we haven’t been. We all know why we’re here.

“We’re here to take this club back to where it belongs – winning trophies and challenging for titles. And I honestly believe we’re on the way towards doing so.

“We know when we’re not at our best and we know when we play well what we can achieve – but we have to sustain it that’s why I believe there are a lot of good days to come.”

Tottenham live it late as they beat Aston Villa 3 – 2

Tottenham live it late as they beat Aston Villa 3 – 2. Son Heung-min’s stoppage-time goal gave Tottenham a last-gasp victory in an entertaining game at Aston Villa as the visitors moved up to fifth in the Premier League table.

The result means Jose Mourinho’s side have leapfrogged Sheffield United and are now a point behind fourth-placed Chelsea, who have a game in hand.

Villa, who remain a point above the bottom three in 17th, made the stronger start and took the lead via Toby Alderweireld’s own goal – with the Spurs defender prodding Anwar El Ghazi’s cross past goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

The Belgian atoned for his error by equalising with a superb angled effort that flew into the top right corner of the Villa goal from 10 yards.

Spurs, who always looked dangerous in attack, went in front when Steven Bergwijn won a penalty after being fouled by home defender Bjorn Engels.

Son’s initial spot-kick was saved by Villa goalkeeper Pepe Reina, but the South Korean forward followed up to score and become the first Asian player to reach 50 Premier League goals.

The hosts responded after the break with Engels heading in from a Jack Grealish corner to level the scores.

However, another Engels mistake allowed Son to race clear late on to place the ball past Reina as Villa’s miserable run against sides in the top half of the table continued.

Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp reacts to Man City’s Champions League ban. The club was also ordered to pay £24.9million on top of the two-year and Klopp admits he was shocked by the punishment dealt out. “It was a shock. Complete wow,” Klopp told Sky Sports on Saturday night.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has shared his thought on Manchester City’s two-year UEFA Champions League ban. The football world was sent into a frenzy on Friday evening when UEFA announced the Citizens have been banned from competing in the champions league for breaching Financial Fair Play rules.

“The only thing I can say, I’m a football coach, I speak about football, and what Pep [Guardiola] and Man City did in the time I’ve been in England, is exceptional. Absolutely exceptional.

“About the rest, I have no idea what happened, who did what and stuff like this. “But I can imagine at this moment it’s really difficult for the sportspeople to understand. You believe the people you work with, that’s how it is, and obviously somebody sees it completely different.

“I really feel for them, to be honest, Pep and the players, but it’s the first verdict, they will appeal and we’ll see what happens then. “But it’s obviously serious, otherwise UEFA would not have reacted like that. But the football they played was exceptional.”

Heartless father turns daughters into s.e.x slaves for 6 years

Heartless father turns daughters into s.e.x slaves for 6 years. A depraved heartless father from Bulawayo has been sent to prison for 30-years after he turned his two daughters into sex slaves and raped them over 6 years.

The pervert who is 48 years of age cannot be named for ethical reasons, in order to protect the identities of his two daughters.

The man appeared before magistrate Sibongile Marondedze at the West Commonage Magistrates Court in Bulawayo facing three counts of rape. Despite his spirited efforts to deny the charges he was convicted after a full trial and sentenced to 10 years each for the three rape charges. However, he got a reprieve after the magistrate suspended 10 years from the sentence, meaning that he will only serve 20 years in prison.

While passing the sentence, magistrate Marondedze that the man was a danger to society and needed to be locked up. Said the Magistrate,

“The accused person is a biological father to the two complainants, and he had a duty to protect them, instead he went on to rape them. The accused person is a danger to society and himself. The only suitable sentence for such offenders is imprisonment

iHarare has established from the Sunday News that the man stayed in Bulawayo’s Nketa suburb with his wife and five children. However, the family later moved to Morningside suburb.

This is when the horrendous ordeal started for the girls who were aged 10 and 17. Whenever their mother would travel away from home, their father would attack them for his own gratification.

The attacks are said to have intensified after the girls’ mother died in 2016. The matter came to light after the two victims confided on separate occasions to a friend from church about the abuse. The friend reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of the depraved man.

Fugitive Njube High School teacher who led students strike fled to Namibia

Fugitive Njube High School teacher who led students to strike fled to Namibia. Speaking from Namibia after fleeing the country’s law enforcement agents who want him for inciting demonstrations, he said he yearned to return home but could not do so right now.

A teacher who allegedly led a strike by students at Njube High School in Bulawayo has broken his silence from Namibia where he is hiding.

The former Biology teacher fled Zimbabwe last month after he had led disgruntled students at Njube High School in a march through the streets of Zimbabwe’s second capital city as they registered disquiet over the perilous state of the country’s education sector.

Now ensconced in what he deems to be a safe country, Brian Mutsiba, pictured, recounted how he walked for more than 30km fleeing the country’s feared security personnel.

“I escaped the country after lying low for four days since the police and security agencies had instigated a manhunt for me. I gave the impression that I had headed for Zambia on social circles but moved in the opposite direction and headed for Botswana.

“I walked a total distance of 30km deep into Plumtree before jumping the border then eventually made it to Gaborone. I lay low once again. When security details were close I skipped another border into Namibia and for now I am safe,” he said. As he fled the authorities who were in hot pursuit, he left behind his wife and three children.

“I am a father of three. My family was left behind in Zimbabwe under the upkeep of relatives. My eldest daughter is a 6th form student at Njube High School and did take part in the demonstration. So she was harassed for a while by the police so as to coerce her into revealing my whereabouts,” he said.

On January 20, Mutsiba led students at Njube in extraordinary protests where they demanded better salaries for their teachers as well as raised concerns with the school fees hike that has resulted in school drop-outs.

Residents of Njube suburb were greeted by the unusual scenes of students from Form 1 to 4 holding a protest over the unavailability of their teachers and the recently hiked school fees. They marched from the high-density suburb to a garage in Entumbane, before they were intercepted by their headmaster who ordered them to go back to school.

The students said they had mounted the protest because they were not happy with the recent school fees increases – which went up from $92 to $492 a term. During their march, the Njube High learners waved placards in which they asked for help from the representative of the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (Unicef) in the country. “Where is Unicef? This is for every Zimbabwean child,” some of their placards read.

Others hoisted the Zimbabwe flag together with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s official portrait – while singing: “We do not like what you are doing”. At one point, the students knelt down as they sang Nkosi sikelel’ iAfrica (God bless Africa), before shouting the slogan “Amatitsha ngawethu” (Teachers belong to us).

The students claimed that their teachers had deserted classes to harvest amacimbi (mopani worms) on the outskirts of Bulawayo because they could not make ends meet.

“We are protesting because since we opened schools last Tuesday, teachers are not reporting for duty. “We have not started learning because teachers are not coming to class. They are harvesting amacimbi,” said one Form 3 student. Hundreds of Bulawayo residents have been flocking to Umguza District on the outskirts of Bulawayo to harvest amacimbi.

Another student said the country’s worsening economic rot was destroying schools and the government needed to act urgently to mitigate the situation. “We are concerned about what is happening to the education sector. Our teachers are not properly remunerated and are not reporting for duty.

“This will have a bearing on our results when we sit for national examinations,” the student said. A teacher at the school who refused to be identified applauded the learners for registering their disapproval through a peaceful demonstration.

This comes after the government recently gave public schools the green light to increase their levies and boarding fees. This was despite its pronouncements that no school would be allowed to hike its fees by more than 20 percent without its approval – in statements that came to be proven as hollow.

“Concerning boarding fees, food fees, those are subject to market forces … Schools have been given guidelines on how to proceed (on this). “There is a circular that stipulates how parents meet, consider their expenses and agree on a fee they think can feed their children.

“Government does not own grocery shops. So, if 20 percent of the parents meet … and if they agree on what they can pay, who are we to say no?” Acting Primary and Secondary Education minister Amon Murwira said then.

Regarding tuition fees, he warned that public schools that defied the directive not to increase their fees by more than the stipulated amounts would face disciplinary action.

“Provincial education directors, district schools inspectors and heads of public schools should stand guided by the circular which has been dispatched to them,” he said adding that private schools that were charging their fees in foreign currency also risked being deregistered.

Murwira also revealed that the government had little control on private schools that charged exorbitant fees – saying as long as parents agreed on a figure, this would be in order.

“All I said is that it is illegal to charge in foreign currency and the punishment for that is deregistration of the school,” he said.

Unsurprisingly, therefore, many parents and their children were facing a double whammy of sky-high school fees and a severe national shortage of affordable boarding places for students starting Form 1 this year.

This threw preparations for the start of the 2020 learning calendar into disarray, particularly as this came as both schools and families were already reeling from the country’s worst economic crisis in a decade.

Authorities paid civil servants their outstanding cost of living allowances (Cola), although they are still facing difficulties in placating the restive government workers who are mulling a national strike.

This comes as Mnangagwa and his misfiring Cabinet are coming under growing pressure from increasingly despondent citizens, as poverty levels, prices and the cost of living in the country keep shooting up – creating social unrest.

For Mutsiba the call was clarion clear, he had to take the fight to the authorities or a whole generation will be condemned to emptiness and nothingness. “The current situation in terms of observing children’s rights is dire and at most pathetic. If compared to the situation of 2008, the current scenario has escalated to catastrophic levels.

“Due to meagre salaries teachers are currently incapacitated to attend for duty let alone lessons. The situation is further made grave by the mere fact that most government schools increased their fees by between 300-500 percent, putting the reach of education beyond the ordinary parents.

“The situation is worsened by the high costs of uniforms, books and educational accessories. With the paymasters adamant to maintain the status quo, millions of children in Zimbabwean government schools are continually bound to suffer from the pangs of this education genocide.

“The hardest hit are the rural children who are at the end point of the margin and this also correlates with the situation of the rural teachers who are at the apex of incapacitation. At the end of the day, education is near to nonexistent in government schools.

“Slowly but surely this young generation is being academically slaughtered. This comes as no surprise as the children of politicians opt for educational opportunities abroad,” he said.

Now an outcast in his country, the former prison warder is holed in Namibia and living on the benevolence of well-wishers. “I am not working but have support of the humanitarian community. To be honest, I did not organise the demonstration, I only supported the children in their quest for a reasonable cause, their right to education,” he said.

A wanted man in Zimbabwe Mutsiba says time always comes where the only option that one have is to put up a fight and fight for what is right.

He believes he has a moral obligation to highlight the suffering of teachers and give a voice to children who are usually the silent victims of underfunding of the critical education sector by the central government.

“There is a famous adage that says ‘Life begins where fear ends’. If the cause is worthy, at times we are compelled to make that sacrifice. The fight for freedoms and rights therefore demands some who are willing to defy the odds and make such sacrifices,” he said.

However, he is not yet ready to come back to Zimbabwe and take the fight to the government that stands accused of destroying the country education sector which was once the region’s envy.

“As long as I still fear for my life I do not see myself coming back. The growing concern is that I may first face a court marshal before I appear a civilian court as I have served under the corrections department before I joined the Ministry of Education.

“A court marshal by any standards is ruthless. However I aim to keep talking on the rights of the voiceless, the children,” he said.

What you need to know as Huawei P40 is set to be launched in SA

What you need to know as Huawei P40 is set to be launched in SA. Speaking in an interview with MyBroadband, Huawei South Africa CBG vice president Likun Zhao and Huawei South Africa CTO Akhram Mohamed confirmed that the upcoming devices would roll out to the local market. Huawei’s next generation of flagship P-series smartphones will launch in South Africa this year.

“The next flagship devices are coming to South Africa,” Zhao said. “The only difference will be that the new flagships will launch in South Africa without Google Mobile Services (GMS) and with Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) instead.”

Zhao said that Huawei reached the number one position in the South African smartphone market just before the implementation of the US Entity List, which subsequently set the company’s progression back.

“We hope we can spend two years to come back to number one smartphone market share in South Africa,” he said. Due to the Huawei being barred from implementing Google services on their devices, they have created their own platform to run on Android named Huawei Mobile Services.

What is HMS?

HMS is not a separate operating system, nor is it an implementation of Harmony OS – Huawei’s own operating system. It is simply a replacement for Google Mobile Services, which runs natively on Android devices and enables certain features and services.

“Many people are thinking that basic services are not going to be functional – that’s not true,” Mohamed said.

Users will still be able to access services such as Gmail, YouTube, Chrome, Google Search, and more – just not through the pre-loaded apps and native integration which they have become used to on previous Huawei devices.

Subsequently, Huawei’s new devices will still feature the same interface and operating system as previous-generation devices – they will just offer a different experience on a platform level.

“The menus, settings, etc., will all look and feel the same,” Mohamed said. “Over and above that, HMS is the replacement of core services for GMS. A consumer does not engage on core services level, they engage on an app level.”

The biggest change consumers will notice is that they will not be asked to log in to their Google account on startup. Instead, they will log in to their Huawei account, which will provide a similar underlying layer of functionality across the device.

As many South African users already have Huawei accounts, this should not be a jarring migration for consumers, and it will be aided by comprehensive support and transparency from Huawei, Zhao said.

Apps and testing

Zhao told MyBroadband that in the third quarter of 2019, Huawei thought the development of an HMS ecosystem and the release of devices without GMS would be a big challenge to overcome.

“From the last quarter of 2019, however, our R&D team conducted a lot of tests and we are now confident,” he said. “For example, WhatsApp has maybe 112 functions. We tested every one based on HMS.”

“99% of functions passed when running on Android with HMS, with only the function to automatically back up data to Google Drive being an issue.”

After each issue was flagged, Huawei began to build solutions for these problems. It has conducted these tests on the top 3,000 applications in the world as well as the top 100 applications in South Africa.

Apps such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter should work perfectly, with only features that require Google account integration not being supported. Additionally, as the operating system is still Android, APKs which do not have deep Google integration will work.

Applications will be available to download from Huawei AppGallery, which will replace the Play Store most users will be familiar with.

This store functions almost identically, however, and Huawei is actively working on migrating applications over to its ecosystem at a rapid rate. “Huawei’s plan is beyond just apps and HMS itself, it is about new experiences,” Mohamed said.

“Yes, we want to give the basic services, and we already have the capability to do that – but we are creating something completely new and beautiful for consumers.” Huawei will also offer extended and widespread support for customers to aid them in adapting to its new Android experience.

Miss Universe Zozi Tunzi’s best and worst looks

$

It has been an honour watching Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi take on the world. Whether she’s been talking about the evolution of beauty standards at New York Fashion Week, or campaigning against gender-based violence, our golden girl can do no wrong in our eyes  or can she?

You see, fashion is a monster all of its own, and no matter how incredible you are, you sometimes miss the mark with your wardrobe choices. During the beauty queen’s recent homecoming tour she wowed and made us proud with many of her looks, but there were a couple of times when we second guessed her style. But despite her odd fashion faux pas, we couldn’t possibly love Miss Universe any more.

We love everything and anything monochromatic at the moment, especially when it looks as flawless as the Halston number Tunzi wore upon arrival at Joburg’s OR Tambo International Airport.

Neither too fancy nor too loud, this satin two-piece was a brilliant sartorial start her homecoming tour. It was classy and elegant without being boring.
Tunzi kept her look cool, casual and eye-catching for a visit to her former primary school, Canaan Academy in Dutywa, Eastern Cape. She paid homage to her heritage in an oh-so-modern way by donning a Nguni print crop top and pants by local brand House of FabroSanz. The shape of those garments were perfection on her statuesque frame and with her signature fade.

Zozibini Tunzi

Throughout her homecoming tour, Tunzi proved her undying loyalty to our country by wearing African prints and pieces by local designers. This includes the dress by one of our favourite labels, Imprint, which she wore while visiting former president, the late Nelson Mandela’s, home.

From the vibrant green and blue pattern to the voluminous sleeves and princess silhouette, this look made us buckle at the knees.
The silhouette of the dress Tunzi wore on a visit to Multichoice’s head office was a little old-fashioned, and the decision to pair it with leopard print shoes just didn’t make sense.

To make this outfit more modern, we wish the beauty queen had opted for a pair of large red earrings and some black lace-up sandals.
Even the best in the fashion game gets things wrong occasionally, and sadly this was the case when Tunzi toured the streets of Joburg on an open-top bus. There is a silver lining, however – few fans actually saw this mess of an outfit up close.

The top and bottom seem to be parts of two different outdated dresses. Thanks to all those colours and layers, the skirt looked chaotic and messy and made our beauty queen look larger than she really is.

Tunzi attended a Samsung event where she was outshone by other celebs in the fashion stakes. The virginal colour and tulle collar of this dress gave it an oddly conservative feel despite the fact that it had a mini skirt.

Kariba Dam water challenges worsen

Kariba Dam water challenges worsen. At least 22 billion cubic metres have been allocated for power generation at the Kariba South and North power stations, which are currently providing over 50 per cent of power needs in Zimbabwe and Zambia, respectively.

The Zambezi River Authority (ZRA) has further reduced the allocation of water for power generation at Kariba hydro-power station for 2020, which will result in suppressed electricity supplies from the power station.

Lake Kariba has a capacity of 180,6 billion cubic metres of water and of that, 65 billion cubic metres can be used for power generation. Average yearly inflows are around 40 billion cubic metres, but only 18,84 billion cubic metres of water flowed into Lake Kariba in 2019.

The 2020 allocation is in response to reduced inflows into the lake owing to successive droughts. According to ZRA, reduction of water allocation means reduced outflow from the turbines during power generation, while allowing the lake to fill up.

Permutations are that with average power generation of around 550MW at a volume cap of 22 billion cubic metres of water, it would take three years for the lake to fill up to maximum retention levels with average inflows.

Speaking at a media briefing in Zambia over the weekend, ZRA chief executive Engineer Munyaradzi Munodawafa said the move was based on the Southern Africa Regional Climate Outlook Forum of the SADC Climate Services Centre. “Based on this forecast, the authority (ZRA) allocated 22 billion cubic metres for power generation at Kariba for the period January to December 2020,” he said.

To date, the lake has received inflows of 3,15 billion cubic metres, which compares favourably against inflows of 1,7 billion cubic metres received during the same period in 2019. Water is flowing into the lake at an average of 663 cubic metres per second compared to the long term average of 931 cubic metres per second.

Eng Munodawafa said lake levels dropped by one centimetre following increased turbine outflows in the last three days. He said ZRA would be giving out status updates fortnightly to ensure that people have an appreciation of the impact of depressed rainfall on power generation.

The authority, he said, relied on data gathered at 13 stations in the Kariba catchment area, with Victoria Falls and Chavuma stations providing key performance indicators of the Zambezi River which contributes 75 percent of flows into the lake.

Flows at Victoria Falls have continued to rise by about 25 percent since last year’s readings. “The flows in the Zambezi River at Chavuma shot up by 73 cubic metres per second between the 5th and 6th February, indicating intense run-off on the Zambezi headwaters,” said Eng Munodawafa.

“The flow is still soaring above the long term average by 41 percent and last year’s flows by 189 percent. The flows have also far exceeded those of 2014/15 at this time, giving a ray of hope for better run-off at this station this year than both last year and 2014/15.”

Flows at Victoria Falls are expected to also rise by the end of this month because of a four-week time lag between upstream Chavuma station and Victoria Falls. Although inflows are comparatively increasing, they are still within the range of the third-worst year on record.

Eng Munodawafa said improved power generation was tied to improved water inflows and consequently lake levels. The total outflow for 2019, including turbine discharge (36,02 billion cubic metres) and evaporation (9,79 billion cubic metres), was 45,81 billion cubic metres.

Eng Munodawafa said the relatively high inflows upstream of the Zambezi River could not result in high lake levels because it is absorbed by the Barotse and Chobe flood plains.

“With the lower catchment continuing to be practically dry since mid-January 2020, and Victoria Falls flows marking up rather sluggishly, turbine outflows continue to command the Lake level situation at Kariba,” he said.

“The relatively high flows monitored on the Upper Zambezi Catchment remain heavily weakened by the rather thirsty Barotse and Chobe flood plains, resulting in the paltry daily increments of about 6 to 12 billion cubic metres per second per day at Victoria Falls.”

Zimbabwe and Zambia have had to introduce load shedding and rely on imports to meet electricity demand. Kariba South Power station was recently upgraded to churn out 1 050MW of electricity, which makes up about half of the country’s daily electricity needs.

More details on the death of Prince Musarurwa. Musarurwa died on Saturday night at Chinhoyi Hospital after battling illness for almost a year. He was 31. Mourners are gathered at his rural home in Musarurwa Village, Murombedzi, in Zvimba.

Afro-jazz musician Prince Kudakwashe Musarurwa of the popular hit song “Runonzi Rudo”, which features songstress Pah Chihera, has died of lung cancer, a family spokesperson confirmed.

In an interview with The Herald Arts, Musarurwa’s uncle, Tafadzwa Matsate, who is the family spokesperson, said they were waiting for other family members before announcing burial arrangements.

“It is sad that we have lost one of the rising musicians, Prince,” he said. “As a family, we are deeply hurt. He died of lung cancer and he had been in and out of the hospital. Last year, he was seriously sick and was hospitalised during the time of Dr Oliver Tuku’s death.

“We are waiting for the arrival of other relatives who are on their way from South Africa. We do not have the burial arrangements yet, but he is set to be buried here in the village. I will furnish you with further details but since it happened over the weekend, he is likely to be buried on Monday (today) or Tuesday.”

Pah Chihera

Pah Chihera, who was on her way from Beitbridge where she had a show over the weekend, said she was deeply hurt by the passing on of Prince, with whom she was related to.

“I am speechless,” she said. “I am coming from my Beitbridge show. I am hurt, he was my close uncle and I do not know how to cope with this situation.” Musarurwa was the last born in a family of three and was related to the late saxophonist Augustine Machina Musarurwa.

Augustine, together with his band, African Dance Band of the Cold Storage Commission of Southern Rhodesia, recomposed the famous “Skokiaan” song that became a global hit after it was re-recorded by celebrated American Jazz star Louis Armstrong in 1954.

Together with Prince, the two did a rendition of the song and renamed it ‘Chikokiana’.  Meanwhile, the local arts fraternity paid their tributes to Prince on social media with some describing him as humble. Zimdancehall musician Ricky Fire said: “Ko one yataifanira kugadzira ndichaita nani iwewe waenda kusingadzokwe (We were supposed to do a collabo before your death).”

Musarurwa

“Rest in peace Prince.”

Social media blogger Plot Mhako said the nation was in shock after receiving the sad news. Through his online platform ‘Earfround’, Mhako paid tribute by revisiting some of Prince’s songs.

Our Perfect Zimbabwe host and songstress Adiona Maboreke posted: “If you met him, you could never forget him. “A heartwarming smile and the voice to complement it. You have left a mark Sinyoro. R.I.P Prince.”

The campaign is close to Gabi’s heart and the actress has previously spoken out again the alleged discrimination she suffered during her first pregnancy.

Two years after the actress left popular e.tv soapie Scandal!, she opened up about her exit and the break she took from the industry, saying there was a lot of politics involved and that she no longer felt at home.

Talking on Power FM Gabi opened up about her exit from the show after she found out she was a mom-to-be.

“So many things happened that people actually don’t know about. I was on Scandal! and then things stopped. I fell pregnant and there was so much politics behind the scenes, so I decided that, listen, I am not going to fight about this. I guess I did not feel at home any more and I was like, it’s fine, let’s move on.

Skeem Saam actress Pebetsi Matlaila has been left frustrated after a “disgruntled” former domestic worker filed a case of unfair dismissal against her with the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation, and Arbitration (CCMA). Pebetsi took to her Insta Stories to vent about a predicament in which she found herself, allegedly thanks to her former helper.

“So I just thought I should come out and actually express my anger, disappointment and my frustration at this point in time. I mean, I am seeing flames at this time (all because) I tried doing good by giving a person a job (not knowing) that same person will land me in such a predicament.

The actress went on to explain the situation, saying that after hiring the helper, she started noticing red flags when the helper apparently asked for a money advance just over one month after she began working for her.

Pebetsi Matlaila

The mother of one said as the stories behind the helper’s motivation for the advance request began sounding more “exaggerated” and extreme, she thought it best to let her go. That is when she was summoned to the CCMA over unfair dismissal.

Pebetsi said she felt her former helper was taking advantage of the fact that she works on TV, and was perhaps operating under the assumption that she has money.

Later, after being bombarded with DMs by women who have dealt with similar problems, Pebetsi took her timeline to explain her situation again, and asked for advice from her fans.

Zimbabwe needs 173 million C0ND0MS a year

Zimbabwe needs 173 million C0ND0MS a year. BULAWAYO last Friday hosted the national commemorations of the World C0nd0m Day amid reports that the country needs 173 million condoms a year.

The commemorations coincided with Valentine’s Day to promote safe s.e.x. Recently the Ministry of Health and Child Care said Zimbabwe needs 173 million c0nd0ms a year as these are at the heart of HIV prevention.

Condom use is one of the seven tried and tested HIV prevention methods recommended and so far the use of condoms is the only method that provides dual protection from HIV, STIs and unwanted pregnancies. It’s consistent and correct use can reduce the risk of HIV and some s.e.xually transmitted diseases (STIs) by up to 99 percent.

This year’s commemorations held at the Bulawayo City Hall car park, Mzilikazi Youth Centre and the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) premises, ran under the theme “Safer is fun.”

In an interview on the sidelines of the commemorations at City Hall car park, Aids Healthcare Foundation (AHF) Prevention Manager Dr Clever Taderera declared the commemorations a success, saying they received an overwhelming response from members of the public and managed to distribute a large number of c0nd0ms.

He said this year the organisation hosted three events in the city in its effort to reach more people.

Dr Taderera said the majority of youths at Mzilikazi Youth Centre were equipped with information on their s.e.xual reproductive rights and had the chance to access free HIV testing services. He commended the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) for partnering other stakeholders in Harare in organising the event.

Zimbabwe’s HIV prevalence rate stands at 13,7 percent and is working towards ending HIV and Aids by 2030. The 2030 target comes after the 2020 global target which calls for 90 percent of the population to know their HIV status and for 90 percent of those who test positive to be under ART.

In a twist of things Zanu-PF commends suspended Youth leaders Matutu and Tsenengamu

In a twist of things Zanu-PF commends suspended Youth leaders Matutu and Tsenengamu. Matutu was the deputy secretary for Youth Affairs, while Tsenengamu was the secretary for commissariat before the two were removed by the Politburo for indiscipline.

Zanu-PF has commended former Youth League leaders Lewis Matutu and Godfrey Tsenengamu for accepting censure and rehabilitation. Zanu-PF acting Secretary for Administration Patrick Chinamasa said in a statement that the two demonstrated maturity and loyalty to the party, in spite of their recent suspension for 12 months.

Matutu and Tsenengamu will undergo a training programme at the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology.

“After serving out their suspensions, the comrades will be welcome to contest for any positions in the party,” Chinamasa said. “The commendable development demonstrates that the disciplinary process is intended to build, not to fracture the party.

“It is pleasing to note that the two have been exemplary in accepting disciplinary measures that will, at the end of the day, make them stronger party cadres.”

Chinamasa said the party expected the two to submit themselves to three months of ideological orientation training. He said youths were the lifeblood of the party. “Their energy, zeal and enthusiasm are the dynamics that separate Zanu-PF from other pseudo-political parties in Zimbabwe,” said Chinamasa.

“Zanu-PF welcomes the positive and constructive contributions of the youth towards the strengthening of the party, as well as their catalytic posture in national development.”

In line with President Mnangagwa vision 2030 clarion call to the nation at large, Chinamasa said the youth had a vital role to play in the economic, technological, social and political trajectory that will see Zimbabwe ascending to upper-middle-income status.
