South Africa’s first Coronavirus patient discharged. The first South African patient to test positive for the deadly Coronavirus to be discharged after having successfully recovered. The man whose identity has been withheld is reported to have been part of a crew who visited Italy for skiing.

Italy is one of the European countries hardest hit by the virus which has infected 31,506 and killed over 2,500 of its citizens.

The news comes after this publication revealed last week that South Africa recorded it’s first successful cure of a coronavirus patient. Coincidentally, the first patient to be cured of the coronavirus was the first person to be infected by the virus. According to News24, KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala confirmed the development on Wednesday.

We can say without any doubt that patient zero, who contracted the virus first, is recovering and he is ready to be discharged. More than 80% of the people who were infected [globally] are now healthy and back in their communities. With us, we believe it will be the same.

Zikalala said this after the KZN provincial executive council held a special meeting to focus on implementing guidelines brought about after President Cyril Ramaphosa declared a state of national disaster.

On Sunday South African president, Cyril Ramaphosa declared the coronavirus a national disaster in an attempt to minimise the outbreak of the deadly virus which was renamed to COVID-19 by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The government’s efforts come at a time the country has seen a spike in the number of cases. According to official reports, the number of confirmed coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in South Africa now stands at 116.

Strict rules for selling alcohol for bars, shebeens, liquor stores due to Coronavirus. According to the measures which were introduced yesterday, liquor stores, bars, restaurants and shebeens will only be allowed to sell beer and other alcohol products between 9 am and 6 pm between Monday and Friday.

As part of the radical measures to fight the coronavirus, South Africa has introduced new strict rules which severely limit the amount of time, businesses are allowed to sell alcohol to revellers.

For Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays, the trading windows have been even more curtailed. The shebeens, bars, liquor stores and restaurants are now only allowed to sell alcohol for the 4 hours between 9 am and 1 pm.

These restrictions will apply as long as South Africa is still in a national state of disaster. President Cyril Ramaphosa last declared the coronavirus a national disaster. All on-consumption premises selling liquor, including taverns, restaurants and clubs, are not allowed to have more than 50 people at the same time – or must be closed with immediate effect.

These places must also adhere to strict hygienic conditions to minimize the chances of contracting and spreading of the deadly coronavirus. Hotels that sell liquor must also implement measures to stop the spread of Covid-19. No special or events liquor licences will be granted during the duration of the national state of disaster.

The new regulations which came into effect yesterday will see those who violate the prescribed periods of time being liable for arrest and criminal prosecution.

South Africa also introduced new regulations which will see people who intentionally spread the coronavirus facing arrest and prosecution for criminal charges. Part of the regulations announced by the presidency read.

Regulation 3 deals with the “prevention and prohibition of gatherings”. In this case, a gathering of 100 people is prohibited. The assembly of more than 50 persons at premises where liquor is sold and consumed is also prohibited. The Regulation also makes provision for powers of an enforcement officer to disperse a gathering or in some cases to arrest and detain the organiser of a gathering.

South Africa Coronavirus cases jump to 150. This comes barely a day after it was officially reported that there were 116 coronavirus cases. Fortunately, no fatalities have been recorded as yet.

In another bout of bad news for fear-struck South Africans, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country has jumped to 150. President Cyril Ramaphosa confirmed the recent development on Thursday, iHarare can confirm from online publication, ENCA.

On Sunday, President Cyril Ramaphosa declared a state of national disaster and announced a series of drastic measures to suppress the outbreak of the novel coronavirus which has now been renamed COVID-19. This was after an emergency cabinet meeting. Among the measures implemented, government-imposed a travel ban on countries worst affected by the virus and also on public gatherings of more than 100 people.

‘We have decided to take urgent and drastic measures to manage the disease, protect the people of our country and to reduce the impact of the virus on our society and on our economy. There can be no half measures,’ President Ramaphosa said in a televised address to the nation.

Nationals from the U.S., U.K., China, Italy, Germany, South Korea, Iran and Spain will be denied visas, while any foreigners who’ve visited a high-risk country in the past 20 days will also be refused entry, Ramaphosa said. Travellers from medium-risk countries will be required to undergo high-intensity screening.

South Africa, reported its first confirmed Covid-19 infection on March 5. The first person in the country to test positive of the virus is suspected to have picked it up a visit to Italy-which is under siege from the virus. The patient has since recovered and is awaiting to be discharged after medical clearance.

Andile Ncube calls out Takealot for its expensive masks

Sports presenter Andile Ncube has called out online retailer Takealot for what’s he refers to as “making a profit off an epidemic” by selling face masks at exorbitant prices. Ncube took to Twitter this week after seeing a screenshot from Takealot’s website showing a box of masks selling for R4 300. He asked the retailer on which side of history it wanted to find itself, if indeed it was selling the product for that amount.

Andile Ncube

“Dear Takealot, I’ve just been vouching for you, surely this is a mistake or fake news!? You are not trying to make an insane profit off an epidemic that could end many lives – you surely are more socially conscious and responsible, right?”
The retailer responded to the comment by explaining that the price was not determined by Takealot but by a third-party seller.

“Hi Andile. Pricing of third-party marketplace products isn’t determined by us. However, we’re closely monitoring the situation and where prices are deemed to have been exorbitantly increased, we’ll engage the relevant sellers.

They also added, “We have already engaged this particular seller and the listing has since been removed and should therefore not be available on our platforms any more.

Schools to close on Tuesday 24 March due to Coronavirus

Schools to close on Tuesday 24 March due to Coronavirus. Zimbabwe’s schools and tertiary institutions will be closing on Tuesday, 24 March 2020, as a precaution against the coronavirus after President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government reconsidered their decision to keep the schools opened.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has ordered the closure of all schools, colleges and universities as a precaution against outbreak and spread of coronavirus following massive criticism for keeping the schools open.

On Tuesday, President Mnangagwa declared the coronavirus a national disaster and suspended all public gatherings of more than 100 people with the ban extending to weddings, church meetings and sporting activities. However, inexplicably, the President announced that schools, colleges and universities would remain open because there were only two weeks left in the school term.

However, parents, teachers and other concerned people highlighted that the move did not make sense when public gatherings had been banned. They pointed out that a typical school had more than 100 students, and the commute to and from school for the students and staff at the school would expose them to the dangers of contracting the coronavirus and passing it on.

After due consideration, President Mnangagwa’s government acceded to the concerns. Below is the statement from Mnangagwa’s office which iHarare will publish in its entirety.

ZIMBABWE PRESS STATEMENT

NEW DATES FOR CLOSING OF SCHOOLS AND TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS

Following concerns from parents, as well representations by the educational sect, Government has decided that all schools and tertiary institutions (colleges, polytechnics and universities) will now close an Tuesday, 24 March, 2020, as a precaution against the outbreak and spread of Coronavirus. While Zimbabwe has not recorded any cases of the virus to date, Government has thought it prudent to err on the side of caution, more so in respect of teaching institutiions where human concentration and contact is expectedly high. The decision is part of the general precautionary measures the country is taking in light of the worldwide outbreak and rapid spread of the Coronavirus.

As I announced on Tuesday, 17th March, 2020, Government will advise on dates for the reopening of all teaching institutions in the country once the threat of the virus is adjudged to have receded.

The date of 24th March should allow for an orderly closure of our institutions, and for parents to arrange for the safe travel of pupils and students.

Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa

PRESIDENT OF ZIMBABWE.

Suspected thief mauled by dogs – Video. A heartbreaking video is doing the rounds showing a would-be thief’s attempt to burgle a house getting a foiled by two dogs. The video which has gone viral shows the man getting bitten by two Rottweilers while helpless onlookers record from outside the gate. The man was mauled by the dogs after jumping in the yard. The incident happened in Kimberly, Northern Cape.

According to neighbours who witnessed the mauling, everyone in the neighbourhood knows not to enter the yard when there is no one at home as the dogs are known to be very aggressive in protecting their turf. A witness can be heard asking the man what he was doing in the yard.

“We were walking by and saw the thug on the ground being bitten by the dogs,” said witness Tshepo Boom.

He said, “I believe the man was trying to break into the house but didn’t realise
there were two dogs on guard. I immediately started recording the video as there was nothing I could do to help him.

Efforts were made to contact the owner who was at work and the thug was lucky as the owner was just around the
corner.

The owner of the two dogs who didn’t want to be named said, “The thug got what he deserved. It is clear he was trying to break into my house” The owner also did not open a case against the thug as he believed he had learnt his lesson well.

The owner added. “He jumped over the gate and walked around the house before he met my two dogs Rover and Fence. He is lucky I came to his rescue before the dogs did too much damage on him”.

SA to erect 40km long fence at Beitbridge Border Post to combat Coronavirus

SA to erect 40km long fence at Beitbridge Border Post to combat Coronavirus. The South African government has said it will erect a 40km fence along the Beitbridge Border Post as one of the emergency measures that the government is implementing to combat the Coronavirus in the country.

Public works and infrastructure minister Patricia de Lille said the fence will be 1.8m-high and span 20km on each side of the border post, separating SA from Zimbabwe. The fence will cost an estimated R37.2m. The government has already hired the services of a contractor and the project has is due to be finished in a month’s time.

“This is to ensure that no undocumented or infected persons cross into the country and vice versa, in line with one of the measures announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa in that South Africa’s borders and ports are to be secured with immediate effect,” said De Lille.

Since the SA government declared the Coronavirus a national disaster, it has closed 35 of the 53 port of entry points. De Lille said this measure would, however, not be effective if the fences at the border were not secure and currently were found to be lacking.

She implored the Disaster Management Act for emergency procurement procedures in relation to the erection and repairs of the border fences, east and west of the Beitbridge border post.

Due to this being an emergency, the contractor has been instructed to substantially increase the number of teams deployed and the rate of delivery. De Lille stressed that this was being done in the interest of South Africans and Zimbabweans. “We are certainly not xenophobic. We have had thorough consultations with all the countries that are our neighbours,” she said.

“What is important for SA is to protect our own citizens and people coming into our country because at the border post now, you’ve got health inspectors and you’ve got environmental professionals and they are doing the testing and screening at the border. But if somebody just walks over the border, there are no such facilities,” she added.

De Lille said they already had people repairing fences around all the borders but the emergency measures were due to the high volume of people coming and leaving the country through the Beitbridge border post.

Horror as Coronavirus suspect turned away from Wilkins Hospital without testing

Horror as Coronavirus suspect turned away from Wilkins Hospital without testing. Flora Doris said she showed symptoms synonymous with the coronavirus and was referred for further testing by her doctor however she was turned away from the hospital.

A disgruntled patient has narrated her nightmarish ordeal after she was referred to Wilkins Hospital in order to be tested for coronavirus. She said she received unprofessional treatment from the staff and was turned away without any tests done in spite of her deteriorating health

Wrote Flora

I would like to categorically and personally confirm to you all that we are screwed.

I’ve been feeling unwell all weekend. Fever, sore throat, high temperature. Was given antibiotics and there wasn’t much improvement. Today I deteriorated again and my specialist had to refer me to Wilkins.

I drove all the way myself, tears the works. Firstly no one and I mean no one can get in the premises. They stop you meters away. You have to show proof of what you need etc. It’s definitely “secured”.

After showing my letter I was asked to use another gate to enter the premises, which I did and was shown where to park and referred to the “tent”.

Walked up to the the tent and saw two fully anti virus kitted nurses and a young Chinese woman. I was swiftly shooed away and told to wait in my car till they were done with her. I complied.

An hour later the young lady got up carting her suitcase and handbag in tow. I was asked to sit and then ensued the “registration and screening” process.

Firstly the hygiene in itself of the alleged screening point is beyond deplorable and heartbreaking. The staff are friendly enough but one can’t get past the environment and the feeling that you could actually get infected just sitting there.

After supplying my name, address details I was asked a series of questions about why I was there and how I was feeling. I regaled the nurse on my symptoms over the last few days and how it culminated with me being referred to Wilkins.

After writing my narration she went to get the thermometer. I inhaled, it beeped, it read 36 she repeated this twice then said “I’ll be back”.

She walked across the path to a group of nurses and doctors.

After a few minutes she returned and said “you are free to go my sister. Your temperature is OK and we don’t feel it’s necessary to put you through the process so get antibiotics go home and rest zvinopera” 👀I didnt know whether to laugh or cry. I instead said thank you .

As I walked away still feeling numb and confused. The myriad of emotions I felt from the moment I was “referred” to suddenly being politely excused three hours later.

I feel aggrieved
I feel angry
I’m shocked

So, is this what they are doing to everyone?

How do you turn people away? Is the protocol not to test test test? For my own peace of mind I actually wished I had been tested. I was caught off guard and my usual fiesty self didn’t even fight for it.

What I know beyond reasonable doubt is that our alleged zero statistics are lies lies lies. One wonders the motive behind this and blatant cruelty. Literally sending people to death and more critically to potentially spreading this virus.

God bless Zimbabwe because we are in for a rough ride and at the hands of those who have their own agendas.

In the meantime. I am torn, do I self quarantine? What about all the people I’ve been in contact with? I literally don’t know what to do.

Tourist coming from the Netherlands through Zimbabwe tests positive to Coronavirus upon arrival in Namibia. Namibia’s health Minister Kalumbi Shangula revealed that the country had recorded its third coronavirus case, a 61-year-old German man who entered the country on March 13 from Amsterdam via Zimbabwe.

The Namibian officials have said that a tourist who arrived from the Netherlands via Zimbabwe tested positive for Coronavirus upon arrival in their country. Shangula said the man had been placed in isolation and his condition was stable. Authorities are now trying to track all the individuals he might have come in contact with.

Earlier, Shangula said a couple from Romania who travelled through Spain and Qatar before arriving in Windhoek tested positive for Coronavirus. He revealed that the couple are now “feeling better”. The couple were in contact with 17 other people who have since been placed in isolation.

This week, Shangula revealed that an emergency isolation centre at Hosea Kutako International Airport had been set up. Additionally, another military isolation centre has been set up near the airport.

Meanwhile, according to the Zimbabwean government, there are no positive tests of coronavirus which have been recorded in the country thus far. All the suspected tests who were put in isolation tested negative for the virus.

The Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association is preparing to go to court to force the government to conduct more tests on people with symptoms synonymous with Coronavirus.

They fear that the authorities are not doing enough in their efforts when the disease might already be in the country.

Zimbabwe’s neighbour South African has recorded a staggering 150 positive cases of coronavirus in less than 3 weeks. The South African government has put in place legislation which criminalizes violation of the government protocols when it comes to containing the virus.

Zimbabwean Facebook page offering Stonyeni and N#de services sets social media ablaze. According to a source close to the investigations, the suspect randomly picked images of women from popular social media sites and pasted them on the Facebook page in question without their consent. He/she then puts price tags on the woman in question.

Police in Bulawayo have launched a manhunt for a person who created a Facebook page for the purposes of hiring out women and teenage girls for s.e.xual services by sharing their intimate pictures.

“The suspect puts those pictures in three categories and I don’t know what criteria he or she uses in putting those images in categories. There are three categories — A, Band C. He or she would then put a picture in one of those categories. There are images that he puts in category A, then he puts some on category B, and puts some on category C. To hire a person in category A one has to pay $65, for category B one has to part with $45, and for category C one has to pay $35,” said a source.

The source added: “The person would then advertise the images saying anyone who wants to have s.e.x with any person in one of the categories has to pay the money through an EcoCash number that is on the Facebook page. The suspect would promise the interested person that he would connect him to a person he would have chosen.”

FB-HOOKUP

The page has gained lots of popularity and has amassed over 2000 likes at the moment. A lot of people have fallen prey to this scam. Some people have stumbled on pictures of their loved ones being showcased for s.e.xual services on the social media site.

The page features women of all sizes and shapes. A teenager once stumbled on her picture on the Facebook page and reported the matter to the police.

The page also offers to hook up with teenagers, blessers and sugar mummies and also provides a number and mobile money details to transact. The suspect in question has an account which goes by the name Alice Sibanda and another one which goes by the name Alice Muriri.

The page has an EcoCash number 0788230035 under Mrs Blessing Sibanda. Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the case: “We urge the community members not rush into making decisions because this has a potential of wrecking marriages and relationships. “It also has the potential of causing disharmony in the society.”

Candy Tsamandebele Releases New Album Independently

Fresh from successful years with legendary independent record label Kalawa Jazmee Records, two albums and a few awards later, Candy Tsamandebele releases a new album titled Still Here independently. Ten tracks album Still Here will be available for pre-order on digital music platforms from the 30th of March 2020 and officially dropping on the 10th of April 2020. Notable features on the album include regular collaborator Bekezela with Skeem Saam actor Clement Maosa, Mafikizolo long time dancer Cedrick Tsongaboy, love songs maestro Henny C and Mr Brown. Renowned producer Drum Pope produced most of the songs while Afrikan Roots and newcomers Tshegofatso Mothapo and Fumani Mahlale also added their magic.

Candy Tsamandebele

With the social media growth in South Africa which makes it easier to market music directly to your fans, and with a decline in CD sales, and an increase in music streaming, going independent was a natural move for me given these factors – Candy Tsamandebele.

Candy Tsamandebele takes naming her albums very seriously. In 2009, Candy Tsamandebele in partnership with Sony Music Entertainment released her first album titled Siki Five Cents. Then followed by Easy Come Easy Go and Hupenyu Unenge Viri with Kalawa Jazmee Records.

I needed help with distributing/licensing my debut album before Sony Music Entertainment agreed to partner with me through Mosekedi Entertainment, negotiations with other labels fell through as what was offered was not good at all. I decided to title the album Siki Five Cents and in it, I had lyrics like; why are you giving me just five cents…what am I gonna do with that – sung in Khelobedu. I was just saying respect my worth. Throughout that process as well I experienced a lot of highs and lows, even more so before recording Tsa Mandebele with Oskido. I came to understand what they meant with the saying; easy come easy go. So, my next album was titled Easy Come Easy Go. With my last album Hupenyu Unenge Viri, I just wanted to let everyone know that life is indeed like a wheel, you need to respect it. Media interviews while promoting this album always focused on whether I was still making music, which was quite interesting. On search engines and social media, the same thing was happening. I am still here, not just everywhere but where it matters – Candy Tsamandebele.

Candy Tsamandebele

You become who you hang out with or who you constantly surround yourself with. Candy Tsamandebele’s constant engagement with both legends and newcomers in music informed her decision to go independent.

Oscar, who is one of the few people who fully understand the state of the music industry in South Africa, is always giving advice formally and informally. He once said to me that as an artist you must fully understand what you are doing to avoid being frustrated, signed or not. and you must build and maintain relationships with useful people in and out of the music industry, as you are who you are because of people. He boosted my confidence; I will forever be grateful – Candy Tsamandebele.
