But, a tweep replied and said she will have to pay a lot if she did not understand carefully her marriage contract. The tweep even questioned if Lerato was that ignorant to not even investigate Thami’s financial state before signing on the dotted line.

Lerato decided to hit back at the claims and said he must not draw a conclusion based on gossips and asked who signed a marriage contract?

The drama which focuses on life in the ghetto, love and life goals, is full of youthful new talent, most of them college graduates.

The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation continues to uphold its mandate of promoting local content, which has resulted in the screening the popular YouTube drama WadiwaWepamoyo on ZBCTV.

ZBC Director Television Productions, Mr Godknows Chera says the success of Wadiwa Wepamoyo is as a result of hard work and determination. He went on to urge actors and content creators to prioritise excellence for the country to become a force to reckon in the film industry.

“The drama has a cast of youthful people, new in the acting industry, who have heeded the call of creating employment for themselves after graduating from colleges. GoFundMe created for tortured MDC MPs and activists. David Siampondo has started a GoFundMe initiative in an endeavour to raise US$20 000 towards medical fees for Joannah Mammombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova, all members of the opposition MDC Alliance, who are “victims of torture, inhumane acts and abductions.”

Reads the initiative: Victims of torture, inhumane acts, and abductions. Defending human rights in Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe has become an outpost of tyranny. Citizens and residents in activism are being abducted, tortured, r@ped, and killed by the state.

The military government has closed the democratic space, and human rights are no longer being observed. The remaining human rights Defenders are systematically targeted.

They are being abducted, tortured, r@ped, and exposed to all sorts of degrading treatment, sometimes going as far as the victims losing their lives. The recent abduction of three female leaders from the Youth Assembly with the Movement for Democratic Change by the state paints a disturbing picture of the abuses occurring in Zimbabwe.

These three female leaders were held incommunicado, driven around in sacks while blindfolded. They were mocked and made to be humiliated for their protests. A group of state agents forced them to eat human waste and drink urine, physically assaulted them, and, worst of all, r@ped these women, all while being held captive at gunpoint. One of the abducted victims is a registered Member of Parliament.

Your donation will be highly appreciated and put to good use to change lives.

British Citizens sped over the border into SA defying Lockdown regulations. This was revealed when the duo appeared before Durban Magistrate’s Court on Friday where they were ordered to pay R40 000 or be jailed for 12 months in jail plus a R10 000 fine or three months for contravening lockdown regulations.

Two British nationals, James Hackett and Erkan Bali sped over the border between South Africa and Eswatini in April, ignoring border officials and entered into South Africa.

The fines were, however, suspended for five years on condition that they are not convicted of the same offence during the period of suspension. In a statement, National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) regional spokesperson Natasha Kara said:

The men left the border and returned shortly afterwards, entering the country by driving straight through the port and ignoring the border officials present. They drove to a guesthouse in the Glenwood area [in Durban], where they were later arrested.

Kara added that the accused have each paid an amount of R15 000 to the Solidarity Fund to contribute to the government’s response to the Covid-19 crisis.

Kara also said that the duo also paid the expenses related to their detention, maintenance, custody and deportation adding that they have been handed over to immigration authorities, pending their deportation.

Barack Obama criticises US coronavirus response in an online graduation speech

Former President Barack Obama on Saturday criticized US leaders overseeing the nation’s response to the coronavirus, telling college graduates in an online commencement address that the pandemic shows many officials “aren’t even pretending to be in charge.

Obama spoke on “Show Me Your Walk, HBCU Edition,” a two-hour event for students graduating from historically black colleges and universities broadcast on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. His remarks were unexpectedly political, given the venue, and touched on current events beyond the virus and its social and economic impacts.

More than anything, this pandemic has fully, finally torn back the curtain on the idea that so many of the folks in charge know what they’re doing,” Obama said. “A lot them aren’t even pretending to be in charge. Later Saturday, during a second televised commencement address for high school seniors, Obama panned “so-called grown-ups, including some with fancy titles and important jobs” who do “what feels good, what’s convenient, what’s easy.”

Barack Obama

“Which is why things are so screwed up,” he said. Obama did not name President Donald Trump or any other federal or state officials in either of his appearances.

The commencement remarks were the latest sign that Obama intends to play an increasingly active role in the coming election. He has generally kept a low profile in the years since he left office, even as Trump has disparaged him. Obama told supporters on the call that he would be “spending as much time as necessary and campaigning as hard as I can” for Joe Biden, who served as his vice president.

As he congratulated the college graduates Saturday and commiserated over the enormous challenges they face given the devastation and economic turmoil the virus has wrought, the former president noted the February shooting death of Ahmaud Arbery, 25,

“Let’s be honest: A disease like this just spotlights the underlying inequalities and extra burdens that black communities have historically had to deal with in this country,” Obama said. “We see it in the disproportionate impact of Covid-19 on our communities, just as we see it when a black man goes for a jog and some folks feel like they can stop and question and shoot him if he doesn’t submit to their questioning.”

“Injustice like this isn’t new,” Obama went on to say. “What is new is that so much of your generation has woken up to the fact that the status quo needs fixing, that the old ways of doing things don’t work.” In the face of a void in leadership, he said, it would be up to the graduates to shape the future. If the world’s going to get better, it’s going to be up to you,” he said.

Obama’s message to high school students came at the end of an hourlong television special featuring celebrities, including LeBron James, Yara Shahidi and Ben Platt, and was less sharp-edged than his speech to the college graduates. He urged the young graduates to be unafraid despite the current challenges facing the nation and to strive to be part of a diverse community. Leave behind all the old ways of thinking that divide us – sexism, racial prejudice, status, greed – and set the world on a different path,” Obama said.

Lerato Kganyago’s marriage scandal – 2 close people reveal the truth

Metro FM radio personality Lerato Kganyago and her husband, Thami Ndlala, were planning to have a white wedding in September this year, but have decided to call it off and separate amicably.

The separation comes barely two months after their much-publicized traditional wedding, which saw Kganyago officially welcomed by Ndlala’s family in Sandhurst, northern Johannesburg.

According to two sources who are close to the couple and did not want to be named, Kganyago this week decided to pack her bags and leave the mansion they shared. On Thursday the 37-year-old shocked her fans with a social media post announcing the separation.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Thami and I have decided to go our separate ways. We have come to realize that our different priorities and workloads have not afforded us the time to invest in our relationship.

Lerato Kganyago

I will continue to care deeply for Thami and look forward to growing our friendship. We trust that our privacy will be respected during this difficult time,” she wrote on her Instagram page.

Her statement has divided her followers. While some commended her for being brave, some felt it was a publicity stunt gone wrong. When we approached her for comment, the emotional deejay said: “I have no further comment. I have said everything I wanted to say in my statement.”

Ndlala has also confirmed the split. “We decided to write a joint statement that was posted by Lerato on Instagram. We remain good friends,” he said.

There is a lot of speculation around their marriage. The two sources alleged that Ndlala’s infidelity was the reason they separated.

Ndlala denied this. “It was a mutual decision and there was no infidelity. This is only speculation, and it’s devoid of any truth whatsoever. We expect this decision to be respected and for us to be granted privacy,” he said.

Other sources confirmed that the couple had been preparing for a big white wedding. “Celebrity designer Gert-Johan Coetzee had already started designing Lerato’s white gown, but it is not clear what is going to happen with it now.

“Lerato is really hurting. She has discovered so many things about this guy, hence she decided to separate from him,” said one of these sources. This week speculation about Ndlala’s alleged shenanigans went viral on social media, where many labelled him a fraudster and conman who was living a “borrowed” life.

Some people even claimed on social media that Ndlala owed them money.

According to the Thami Ndlala Holdings website, Ndlala owns a business consultancy company that specialises in management consulting, business development and project management.

Lerato Kganyago

“He is not the sole owner of the mansion in Sandhurst. He doesn’t even belong to the residential WhatsApp group,” claimed one of the two sources close to the couple. However, Ndlala said it was impossible to defend himself against such allegations.

“These allegations are devoid of all truth. I find it curious that people wish to remain anonymous. It seems to me like a further attempt to slander my good name. There are legal procedures available to all citizens if they feel money is due to them.

“No such legal documentation had been served on me. This seems like a failed attempt to litigate and the media has become a forum for such litigation for the cowardly faceless who seek popularity,” he said.

On the claim that he does not own the mansion where he lives, Ndlala said: “I will not deign to answer such false allegations. We have a functioning justice system in place that deals with such and I trust the system in place for everyone to enjoy. My residence ownership is not of anyone’s interest except for those that seek relevance and enjoy expired firecrackers.”

Lerato Thami

Notorious Twitter parody account Man’s Not Barry Roux, (@AdvBarryRoux), dropped some hectic files about the couple’s split. According to the controversial tweeter, Thami is allegedly a fraudster, he allegedly defrauded numerous retired people of their investments, claiming he would make a lot of money for them through his Forex trading company.

Man’s Not Barry Roux, also went on to claim that the couple were married in community of property, and Thami does not have any property and allegedly has 2 South African IDs.

Thami has no social media accounts, so he has shed light on the allegations in an interview with City Press, he confirmed the split and also spoke on the allegations levelled against him.

The businessman told the publication that there was “no infidelity” and the decision to part ways “mutual”.

These allegations are devoid of all truth. I find it curious that people wish to remain anonymous. It seems to me like a further attempt to slander my good name. There are legal procedures available to all citizens if they feel money is due to them.

No such legal documentation had been served on me. This seems like a failed attempt to litigate and the media has become a forum for such litigation for the cowardly faceless who seek popularity,” he said.

Lerato Kganyago

As to whether he owns that Sandhurst mansion, the one President Cyril Ramaphosa’s motorcade passes, Thami let reiterated that it’s no body’s business really.

I will not deign to answer such false allegations. We have a functioning justice system in place that deals with such and I trust the system in place for everyone to enjoy. My residence ownership is not of anyone’s interest except for those that seek relevance and enjoy expired firecrackers.”

Kazembe Kazembe instructs Police Boss Matanga to investigate the abduction of MDC officials. Harare West MP Joana Mamombe, Netsai Marova, and Cecilia Chimbiri were abducted after being arrested by police at a roadblock during a flash demonstration in Warren Park.  Kazembe promised the nation that no stone will be left unturned during the process.

The Minister of Home Affairs Kazembe Kazembe has instructed the Commissioner General of Police Godwin Matanga to investigate circumstances surrounding the abduction of 3 MDC officials on the 13th of May.

Read the full statement below:

The Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage has taken note of the huge interest and concern which has been caused by the alleged disappearance of MDC Alliance members Johana Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Christine Marova in Harare on the 13th of May 2020 and the subsequent location at Super General Dealer on the 15th of May 2020.

While the circumstances pertaining to the whole case are not clear my Ministry has directed the Commissioner-General of Police to institute full-scale investigations into the matter. 1 want to assure Zimbabweans that no stone will be left unturned with a view of finding out exactly what happened after the flash demonstration in Warren Park by MDC Alliance members.

This inquiry will also include the way the story was covered in the media in order to iron out a lot of grey areas for the benefit of the public and in the process reveal the correct circumstances in the whole matter.

Finally, may I, therefore, reiterate that Zimbabweans should wait for the outcome of the investigations before coming up with unsubstantiated conclusions.

Youth drug abuse increases alarmingly during the lockdown. Mthandazo Ndlovu a counsellor in addiction and adolescent life coach said drugs abuse has escalated during lockdown among youth.

The drug abuse is reportedly rampant among youth during the lockdown. “COVID-19 has a psychological toll on mostly youth,” said Ndlovu.

“The struggle of the mind begins on how do l escape from this and when all minds are waiting for the same answer, the depression levels rise and so does the fear of the unknown.”

Ndlovu said drugs, alcohol and substance abuse become the first escape routes from reality and a rare breed of addicts is breeding this time around as people try to surround themselves with what will take away fear from them.

MDC war gets hotter as Mwonzora and Komichi seek VIP protection

MDC war gets hotter as Mwonzora and Komichi seek VIP protection. Mwonzora and Komichi’s appeal for Police Protection Unit (PPU) help comes after the government granted acting MDC leader Thokozani Khupe police protection. The Supreme Court recently ruled MDC should go to the structure established by the party’s congress in 2014 which made Khupe the party’s acting president pending the holding of an extraordinary congress.

MDC senior leaders Douglas Mwonzora and Morgan Komichi have also asked for police protection amid rising threats from rivals in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling which ordered for an extraordinary congress to determine the leadership of the party.

The court also ruled that Mwonzora and Komichi were to be recognised as the legitimate secretary-general and national chairman respectively. The PPU is responsible for providing security to the VIPs within the country such as Head of State, Vice Presidents, Ministers, Ambassadors, Judges and any other designated persons.

They also protect key installations such as State House and Parliament Building, among others. Komichi and Mwonzora have engaged bodyguards for fear of being attacked by their political rivals. Komichi told Business Times the appeal to the police will protect leaders against harassment.

“I know that many of them [party leaders] are being intimidated by our political rivals and we need police protection whenever the need arises especially these days we are in the process of reorganising the party structures and delegates for the elective congress as ordered by the Supreme Court ruling,” Komichi said.

He claimed to be receiving threats of physical and verbal from the MDC supporters mainly based at the party headquarters, the Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House.

“We do not want violence as we know that some of the MDC youths at the Harvest House are threatening us with violence and we want to warn them that the law will take its course and we are going to be making a report to the police about the threats.” he said.

The request made by Komichi and Khupe comes after the MDC Alliance leadership in Harare province dared Khupe, Mwonzora and Komichi to occupy the party headquarters.  MDC Harare spokesperson Fani Munengami said the party’s leadership in the province was not going to allow MDC- T to take over the party headquarters.

“In Harare province our supporters have indicated that they are do not recognise Khupe and the youths of the party have also dared Khupe to try to occupy our party headquarters and face the consequences. I understand that the judgment did not address the issue of the party property as it registered in the name of the party not to Khupe ,” Munengami told Business Times last week.

MDC Alliance MPs and councillors have thrown their weight behind Nelson Chamisa and arguing that he is their legitimate leader elected at the party congress last year in Gweru.

To date the country has confirmed 34 cases of the virus, four deaths and five recoveries.  President Emmerson Mnangagwa extended the lockdown by two weeks with relaxed conditions in which businesses would be allowed to operate between 8am and 3pm.

Coronavirus, also referred to as COVID-19, was first reported in Wuhan, China, on 31st December 2019, and was declared a public health emergency of international concern on January 30, 2020. The disease has since spread widely to over 180 countries. Across the globe, more than 200 000 people have died to coronavirus while over 3m have been infected.

Meanwhile, MDC recalled four legislators from Parliament with by-election expected in their constituencies. The recalled legislators are Prosper Mutseyami (Dangamvura), Charlton Hwende (Kuwadzana East), Thabitha Khumalo (Proportional Representation) and Senator Lillian Timveous (Midlands).

Last week, Mwonzora warned that legislators that do not toe the party line would be recalled.

“We are law-abiding citizens and we follow the rulings of the court that we have to respect it and these MPs and councillors who are still recognising Chamisa are lost, and risk being recalled from parliament and council chambers by the party’s leadership and must come and join us in the preparation for the elective congress within three months,” Mwonzora said.

War Vets harvest Kasukuwere’s oranges at his farm despite court barring them to do so

War Vets harvest Kasukuwere’s oranges at his farm despite court barring them to do so. A defiant War Veterans Chairman for Mazowe District, Ephanos Mudzimunyi, has intensified harvesting oranges at Saviour Kasukuwere’s farm despite a High Court Order banning him from interfering with operations at the farm, The Standard reports.

The publication spoke to some farmworkers who expressed concern over Mudzimunyi’s actions as they said Mudzimunyi’s people were harvesting the best potion of the crop:

Until Thursday last week, they had only been eating the oranges. But since the court order was granted, (Mudzimunyi) has hired more people to harvest the oranges. They spend the day harvesting and packing them and transporting them in trucks overnight. They even chased away police officers who had come to serve them the court order and said they did not regard it.

When the order came, some workers tried to harvest the oranges from the other end, but they were threatened by Mudzimunyi’s people, who warned them that the move was tantamount to a declaration of war and they retreated. Farmworkers also said Mudzimunyi’s people have brought operations at the farm to a standstill.

This is a big loss. They are harvesting the portion with the best crop and also some common criminals have taken advantage of that to steal. Now all operations have stalled. There is no irrigation taking place because they are camped right at the pump and have declared it a no-go area.

This is happening at a time when we are supposed to be irrigating the oranges more to come up with the best quality. This has left the oranges exposed to fruit flies, which causes extensive damage.

When contacted for comment, Kasukuwere said the actions of the war vets leader showed lack of respect for the Zimbabwean law. Kasukuwere last year received a withdrawal letter from the Ministry of Lands and challenged the withdrawal letter at the court after his farm was allocated to Mudzimunyi.

Thokozani Khupe granted police protection. MDC senior leaders Doug las Mwonzora and Morgan Komichi have also asked for police protection amid rising threats from rivals in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling which ordered for an extraordinary congress to determine the leadership of the party.

“I know that many of them [party leaders] are being intimidated by our political rivals and we need police protection whenever the need arises especially these days we are in the process of reorganising the party structures and delegates for the elective congress as ordered by the

Supreme Court ruling,” Komichi said.

“In Harare province, our supporters have indicated that they are do not recognise Khupe and the youths of the party have also dared Khupe to try to occupy our party headquarters and face the consequences.

Condolences continue to pour in for national hero Sikhosana. Cde Sikhosana died at United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) on Saturday and has been declared a national hero. He was 70. At the time of his death, Cde Sikhosana was acting Zanu PF chairman for Bulawayo Province.

The Zanu PF Youth League has sent a condolence message on the passing on of Zanu PF Politburo member Cde Absolom Sikhosana. In a statement yesterday, Zanu PF Youth League secretary for information and publicity Cde Yeukai Simbanegavi described the late national hero as a humble, patient and selfless servant leader who devoted his entire life in service to the nation.

She said the Zanu PF Youth League had been shocked by the untimely passing on of one the revolutionary party’s longest-serving and most consistent cadres. “We do, therefore, with heavy hearts, convey and extend our sincerest condolences to all those who worked with, and those who, like us, have had the privilege of benefiting from being in contact with him throughout his illustrious career.

“Even in our sorrow, we celebrate the life and times of Cde Sikhosana, who had risen to become a Zanu PF Politburo member, as a lifetime of milestones in the ideological education of the youth.

“Affectionately known by many as “Cde Nkosi” or “Headmaster”, Cde Sikhosana came to represent the energetic, vibrant, never-say-die spirit of the revolution which to his credit, came to characterise the ZANU PF Youth League,” she said.

Cde Simbanegavi said Cde Sikhosana had grown in stature to become a chaperone to many generations, such that his name will forever remain etched in the collective memory of both young and old alike.

“We sorely grieve over our cruel loss of a down to earth doyen of vanguard revolutionary politics, a humble virtuoso who knew how to get the best out of the Youth League and the nation’s young people.

“Indeed, the virtues of friendliness, patience, loyalty, hard work and honesty are some of the most enduring legacy values he bequeathed to the Zanu PF Youth League and to the nation at large. Our generation has surely been fortunate to have the ‘Headmaster’ as a mentor,” she said.

“As we inexorably march towards achieving President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030, and as we continue in the fight against adversities such as those posed by illegal sanctions and lately, the Covid-19 scourge, all the Zanu PF Youth League members across Zimbabwe remain emboldened by the indelible imprint left by our affable, indefatigable chaperone and lodestone on our understanding of the role of youth in national defence and development.

“For us, Cde ‘Nkosi’ Absalom ‘Headmaster’ Sikhosana’s status needs no overstatement. He holds in our conjoint revolutionary spirit, the highest honour. He is, and shall always be remembered as, a National Hero for whom we wish eternal peace as he rests,” she said.

Meanwhile, ZANU PF South Africa District has sent a condolence message to President Mnangagwa and the people of Zimbabwe following the death of the party’s Politburo member Cde Sikhosana who died on Saturday and was declared a national hero.

In a statement yesterday, the District’s Information and Publicity department said Cde Sikhosana’s death was a great loss to Zimbabweans at home and in the Diaspora.

“As we commiserate with the people of Zimbabwe and the Sikhosana family, we celebrate the life of a committed, selfless, and sociable leader who dedicated his entire life to the political and economic emancipation and empowerment of the youth and people of Zimbabwe,” it said.

The District said it benefitted immensely from the late hero. He would visit the District and advise them on party ideologies and the need to fend off the enemy.

“Zanu PF SA will forever remain indebted to Cde Sikhosana who on most occasions when he was in South Africa would take time off his busy schedule to meet, exchange notes, advise and encourage comrades to remain resilient and committed to the defence of Zanu PF in the face of the onslaught from the opposition and independent media.

“Cde Absolom Sikhosana’s courage and humility, demonstrated by his ever willingness to visit our Johannesburg offices at the heart of the dreaded Johannesburg, inspired many in the District to work hard in support of Zanu PF,” it said.

Govt in talks with mobile service operators to review data prices for e-learning

Govt in talks with mobile service operators to review data prices for e-learning. Talks between Government and mobile phone operators are underway with a view to reducing the price of data bundles to cater for e-learning during the Covid-19 national lockdown period.

Education has been affected by the lockdown, as students are unable to go back to school so as to minimise the spread of the disease, prompting calls for the education sector to adopt e-learning.

There have been concerns over high data prices in Zimbabwe, amid fears many students will be unable to take part in e-learning. The data prices are within the approved Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potratz) but are beyond many ordinary citizens, let alone students.

NetOne’s cheapest bundle for $8 is offering 3,8MB/$1, while the cheapest Econet bundle is offering 3,64MB/$1. In an interview last week, Secretary for Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Engineer Sam Kundishora said Government sympathised with the students.

“Learners must continue, but we are also concerned about the cost of access,” he said. “The cost of access means the learners have to pay in order to access the Internet and the data bundles are not cheap.

“What we are trying to do right now is to discuss with the regulator and the operators so that we can at least come up with a reduction, if possible, of the cost of data bundles.

“So, according to the regulator, it’s still within the range, so there is nothing that has increased in terms of tariffs from the regulator side. However, after saying that, it means that the consumer is still feeling that increase and this is what we are negotiating now at the moment to see whether the operators can reduce the cost for data bundles.”

Schools and tertiary institutions including the Midlands State University (MSU) and the Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University (ZEGU) have already complied with the directive and introduced online lectures for students through its e-learning platforms.

A fourth-year student at ZEGU, Sasha Mawonde urged Government to cushion them against the high cost of data. Potratz recently moved away from a fixed model for determining the various tariffs for telecommunication operators to a flexible model. The new model is meant to improve the sustainability of the local telecoms firms’ businesses.
