Zanu-PF youth leader slammed for defending Zimdef ‘looter’ Moyo

Zanu-PF youth leader Kudzai Chipanga has drawn brickbats from students’ unions for defending the siphoning of $270 000 from the Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund (Zimdef) by Higher and Tertiary, Science and Technology Development Minister Professor Jonathan Moyo and his deputy Dr Godfrey Gandawa.

Zimdef, whose funding comes from industry, was created to benefit students at tertiary institutions, including when they are on attachment. However, Prof Moyo and Dr Gandawa used the money to strengthen social ties in their constituencies by buying bicycles and motorcycles.

Dr Gandawa, according to documents, at one point bought personal furniture using the Zimdef funds. Prof Moyo has admitted the abuse, but tried to justify it.

Chipanga, who is also accused of benefiting from 100 000 litres of fuel from Zimdef, was on Tuesday quoted in the private media slamming the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission, The Herald and the Ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services for exposing the rot.

Chipanga, without explaining how he used his loot, claimed those exposing the shenanigans were pursuing a factional agenda and wanted to derail Zanu-PF programmes.

Zimbabwe Congress of Students Union president, Tonderai Chidawa, said Chipanga was the least qualified person to comment on the issue as he also owed Zimbabweans an explanation. He said no-one should be allowed to abuse public funds and hide behind party programmes.

“The sponsoring done to the party by State enterprises is done willingly not in an extortionist, corrupt manner or to further the interests of a particular being, especially a high ranking official like a Minister,” Chidawa said.

“Chipanga, who does not have more than three Ordinary Level subjects, is the least qualified person to talk about this saga because he himself is implicated. His comments show that he is suffering from intellectual paralysis. If there are people to comment about these funds, it’s the students and industry, where the money comes from.”

Prof Moyo on Sunday identified Chipanga as a beneficiary of the 100 000 litres of fuel from Zimdef. The fuel was allegedly requested by the Zimbabwe Youth Council on July 26, 2016 for a “skills gap assessment programme”.

Tweeted Prof Moyo: “I approved request for 100K litres of fuel from CEO of NYC Livingstone Dzikira. He & Kudzai Chipanga took ALL of it!”

Chidawa said: “Where is Chipanga coming from? He should rather be telling us where he went with the fuel he got. He can’t be a beneficiary of fuel coupons. He is neither a Zimdef, Ministry official, neither is he a student.

“He should focus on ensuring that the youths get the stands they were promised rather than commenting on what he doesn’t know. The issue of abuse of Zimdef funds, which we are calling an academic Afghanistan, is a no go area for Chipanga.”

Zimbabwe National Students Union spokesperson Zivai Mhetu, said corruption had no place in a country reviving its economy.

“The economy has deteriorated and we have reasons that we think have caused this and one of them is corruption by public officials,” he said.

“For someone to come in defence of looters and condemning those exposing irregularities, it will only leave a mark that the person is also corrupt. In any case, his actions will see us mobilising and demanding our grants, which were scrapped on the pretext that Government had no money. We had accepted the situation, but behaviour of some people defending corrupt elements makes us think that we are being taken for a ride.

Prof Moyo, Dr Gandawa, Zimdef chief executive Mr Frederick Mandizvidza and Zimdef principal director (finance) Mr Nicholas Mapute could have unlawfully benefited from $430 000 of the State enterprise’s money between November 2015 and June 2016, documents show. ZACC is investigating other alleged abuses of Zimdef funds by Prof Moyo, his deputy and three subordinates.

The five are being investigated for five charges of fraud as defined in Section 136 of Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act (Chapter 9:23), and three charges under the Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime Act (Chapter 9:24).

Cde Chipanga declined to comment on issues of his academic achievements, saying it was none of the two students’ unions’ business.

“The person (Mr Chidawa) that you are quoting is not in Zicosu leadership since he has since finished his studies. Zicosu is an affiliate of our organisation and we have the current leadership. As far as we understand, Chidawa was expelled for denigrating the President.

“As for Zinasu, it’s not our business to make an MDC-T organisation happy. We do not work to please an opposition affiliate organisation. We do work to please our membership. If Zinasu members are not happy, then we are happy,” he said.

Chidawa insisted he was still with Zicosu and denied denigrating President Mugabe. He said he was expelled because he declined to push a factional agenda Cde Chipanga and other party officials wanted to pursue.

“I never denigrated the President. I challenge Chipanga to bring the evidence. I am a solid supporter of President Mugabe. In fact, during the One Million-Man Much I was in the forefront of mobilising hundreds of thousands of students to participate in the march,” he said.

Mr Chidawa said he was still a bonafide leader of the student union body until 2017.

“According to Zicosu constitution, I am supposed to lead until February 2017, when we hold our congress. This is coming from someone who does not understand how our constitution operates,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Youth Council yesterday confirmed the siphoning of 100 000 litres of fuel form Zimdef.

In an emailed statement yesterday, the council’s executive director Mr Livingstone Dzikira — who is also accused of personally benefiting from the fuel — claimed the diesel was sent to the Zanu-PF Youth League. He said the fuel was meant for a youth skills mapping exercise.

“The Youth Council therefore wishes to place it on record that the said fuel is with Zanu-PF Youth League, having received that support through their membership of the Zimbabwe Youth Council,” he said.

“The secretariat of the Youth League signed for this fuel and therefore is fully accountable for the usage of that fuel. In due course we expect that the Zanu-PF Youth League will furnish the Youth Council with its annual report, which will include this support together with a report on the specific outputs of the programme of Youth Skills Assessment that they are conducting in the districts of the country, for which they requested this support.

“The information surrounding this transaction was secured by investigators of ZACC, an anti- corruption constitutional body, which has not yet completed its investigations and yet the media has already been debriefed of the case.

“This leakage to the media of incomplete information betrays an agenda that is more political than professional. It would be interesting to know whether ZACC will investigate its officers for disclosing to the media information on a case that is still pending.

Mboro yake was so big and aiziva kuishandisa, ndakazopinda maone nekuda mboro

Mboro yake was so big and aiziva kuishandisa, ndakazopinda maone nekuda mboro! I have always been munhu anoda mari, it’s always been in my nature to hustle even nepasingadi ku hustler. Ndaitengesa masalon products and I had given one of my clients a whole box and had taken ages to pay, I don’t take such nonsense till this day.

She had been avoiding me saka one morning I woke up it was a Sunday. I decided to go kuchurch. The reason was maiva nemunhu ane mari yangu saka ndakapfeka maternity dress it was the only dress I owned, I was 20 ndaida zvinhu I believed ma trousers pakuchena. I was 9 months pregnant or at least I thought I was. I had done amateur calculations basing on the evening I spent with guy where he made breathtaking love to me, oh how I remember it like it was yesterday. So steamy, so aggressive, each time he went deeper I knew I was gonna get used to this guy plus baba vanga vakasenga ivavo. Mboro yake was so big and he knew how to use it.

Matsinga tsinga eshondo iya maihwe zvangu ah vasikana ndaida kuidya nemuromo. I enjoyed touching it occasionally kungoidenha and see it pressed against his trousers yakazvimba and screaming for attention. I made it my best friend that night and that’s the night my best friend made me pregnant. Now ndapfeka hembe went to church kutsvaga mai vemari yangu. I had a funny feeling the whole morning just tired and hungry ndichinzwa kuda kusvirwa. Mumwe musi ndakamuka ndichida chibuku, earlier ndichigeza beche randainge ndisina kubata in the past few months, ndikanzwa kutsvedzerera and I figured ndinofanirwa kunge ndatunda in one of the dreams I had been having lately.

I paid no attention to the discharge. Now I was by the church my goodness the surprise I got in the yard was jaw dropping just as much as it was intriguing. It was like heaven I silently whispered hoo nhai so this is where all the good men have gone to. I was in a trans masasi eharare. I must have drooled chete there some seriously mighty fine brothers. Suddenly a sharp pain shook me up and brought me back to reality. I was a 90kg pregnant woman with hair that looked like I had been struck by lightning wearing a see through maternity dress that left nothing to the imagination. 5 mins later a tall hunk approached me extending his big fairly brown strong slightly hairy amazing hand and said, “you must be new” , In my head I responded “you must ride me ” “I’m Tafadzwa let me help you find a seat” I never said a word.

Funny enough I saw mai vemari yangu so I went over to her and told with the biggest plastic smile in the history of mankind and told her no jokes I will make a scene pachurch pako ndipe mari yangu. She said hesi Amanda sha zvapapressa I don’t have money I don’t know how to tell you i feel bad. So I raised my voice. .. Nhasi uchandipa mari yempiro I ain’t leaving . “Amanda veduwe mkoba sure kwawabva kuzondishura” Right before I could answer there was that pain again.“Aaaawwww! This time much more intense.

By now it was pretty obvious I was in labour. My water broke and quickly sat down. The journey to the hospital was the longest ever, hama nurses are the evil but very necessary, the pain was unbearable. I kept cursing myself but still wondered how something so extreme so passionate so wonderful something I would rejoice and get wet at just the thought if it could result in a bomb of pain like this. The noise the sweat the screams the fatigue, dry mouth the pain all in one. I wasn’t so sure if I wanted a baby at that moment, I wanted the pain to go away I wanted to sleep I knew everything I wanted and sure knew what I never wanted again. I told myself handidi kuona chinhu chinonzi mboro duze neni futi, ndiye muparanzvongo, this better be one hell of a magnificent baby ndirikurwadziwa veduwe.

I hated her I wanted her to clean up my shit,I didn’t care but oh no, no no this was no ordinary shit the more I pushed I cracked. I wondered if beche rangu was ever going to be the tightest fire crotch like my man had described it nine month prior to this judgment day I was enduring.

Ah! mai vemari yangu vanga varipi? ndivo vakonzeresa. Ndichibva pano ndoda kuvatsvaga ndoda mari yangu, I wondered if she knew Tafadzwa’s number. Remember Tafadzwa mupfanya akanditambira kuchechi. Anyway all that nonsense I was thinking came to a stop when dhodhi riya became a nightmare mabhonzo angu akamover my body turned to a stone, mudhidhi wese bhenengu kushure kwaive mberi, mberi yese yaive sure I swear. Ndakagomera nesimba rangu rose and screamed fuk you prince! You did this to me, I wondered if sviro was worth i but wait I wanted a baby this was the price … final pushhhhhh Aaaawwww maiiwe nurse ndoda operation…. arrrggghhh ..

Nurse :yei mwana abuda
Next thing mwaaaaaa mwaaaaaa. This had better be one he’ll of a baby.

One hell of a baby for sho so small fragile beautiful she looked cold but I was assured that’s how they are all folded up. Her eyes my gosh her eyes wide opened looking up at me.

Tsvangirai outlines four-step Zimbabwe rescue plan

Zimbabwe is at a crossroads. The country is facing a multifaceted political and economic crisis, stemming largely from a lack of political legitimacy that has arisen out of persistently disputed elections since the country achieved its independence from Great Britain in 1980.

Today, the crisis has escalated massively since the last disputed election in 2013. The central bank is printing $75 million worth of bond notes, a pseudo-currency that is being rejected by the people; cash withdrawals are being limited by banks; and people from all walks of society are taking to the streets to protest the dire economic conditions.

Add to that a 92-year-old president who has been in office for 36 years, and our country has all the elements of a political catastrophe.

We now have a government that is failing to raise wages for its workers, let alone find funds for other critical national infrastructure, like health care and education.

As of now the main health referral centre, Harare Central Hospital, has closed some of its emergency units for lack of funding. The governing party, Zanu PF, has become so clueless that the only consistent element about them is policy inconsistency.

Zimbabwe could be the only country where a president who reads a wrong speech in parliament for an hour and where a finance minister announces a mid-term fiscal policy review that is publicly dismissed by the minister of information just days later as a false position of government. And in both cases, no action was taken against anyone.

The encouraging news is that we in the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) have now been joined by the majority of the citizens of our country, who have united to put pressure on this regime.

Since April 14, when the MDC led a public demonstration against the government attended by thousands, civic groups and ordinary citizens have felt emboldened and there has been a rise in public citizen expression against misgovernance, as seen in the #ThisFlag movement. In short, Zimbabweans have overcome the ghost of fear and that is encouraging.

Added to that is the national convergence of diverse players working together to make things right for the country. Opposition political parties, civic society, ordinary citizens and even former liberation war fighters once aligned to Zanu PF are now all speaking the same language. The national chorus is that President Robert Mugabe must go and give the country some respite.

There is overwhelming convergence against this regime. The people’s public demonstrations have not been about ousting anyone from power, but simply legitimate expressions by citizens crying out to be heard by their own government.

The sad news is that the government has seen these legitimate and constitutional public demonstrations as a threat to its hegemony. Mugabe’s government has responded by doing what it knows best: brutality as a means of power retention at all costs.

All public demonstrations have now been banned, even though the constitution allows them. The government has in essence effected a state-of-emergency through the back door.

Despite the brutality and bans of legitimate public expressions, the people of Zimbabwe will continue to put pressure on this government.

The response so far shows that the protests have been effective. The people have now summoned the courage to loudly make their point, in stark contrast to the time when citizens lived in fear of expressing themselves. The people have broken the siege.

On our part as the MDC, we have tabled a roadmap with four signposts to legitimacy, which we believe is the only sustainable path towards growth, stability and recovery.

1. Retiring Mugabe

President Mugabe can rant and rave that he was elected in a free and fair election and therefore has a legitimate mandate to govern the country. The grim reality, however, is that, given his age and his crimes of omission and commission–from failing to develop cogent policies to meting out brutality against the Zimbabwean people–he must set the stage for national recovery.

For the sake of his legacy, he needs to send out a message that the country is more important than individuals. All signs point to Mugabe wanting to die in office , but he must retire and set the stage for a new course for the country. If he truly loves this country, his departure will be the first positive sign to set the country on a new trajectory for recovery and growth.

2. Convergence and Dialogue

After that departure, there must be convergence and dialogue by multiple stakeholders that go beyond just political parties. That dialogue will be centered on the mechanics of the creation of a National Transitional Authority with a very specific and limited tenure and mandate.

3. The National Transitional Authority

In our view, the National Transitional Authority will not run government but will have the executive authority to put in place reforms that will precede a truly free and fair election. With its limited mandate and tenure, this diverse body must be obligated with the responsibility of steering the country towards a credible vote that will yield a legitimate government with the confidence of Zimbabweans, the region and the broader international community.

4. Free and Fair Elections

The fourth and last signpost of our roadmap is the conduct of a truly free and fair election. This will put in place a legitimate government that can inspire confidence locally, regionally and internationally.

We are confident that we are in the last mile of our struggle. Business, labour, women and even the old have continued to retain their faith that stability and progress can be achieved in our country.

The message from the people of Zimbabwe to the region and the international community is that we have reached the tipping point. The message is that we cannot walk this last mile alone, without the warmth, empathy and solidarity of the region, Africa and the broader global community.

Zimbabwe needs the support of the world and they expect a universal condemnation of this naked brutality against them by their own government for daring to express themselves.
I have no doubt in my mind that Zimbabwe is on the verge of a new era.

Mnangagwa clashes with Mphoko, urges counterpart’s prosecution

Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa has dismissed claims by his counterpart, Phelekezela Mphoko, that cabinet ministers could only be arrested with the approval of the president and advised lawmakers to approach the police over his interference with investigations.

Mphoko, the other vice president, made the remark in support of Jonathan Moyo, the Higher and Tertiary Education minister who the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) recently attempted to arrest in connection with fraud.

According to the ZACC charge sheet, Moyo connived in defrauding the Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund (ZIMDEF) that falls under his ministry of close to $500,000.

Moyo has admitted to the fraud, but insists that he must not be charged because he took the money to fund Zanu PF events and his Tsholotsho constituency where he donated bicycles.

However, Mnangagwa, responding to questions in parliament on Wednesday, said only the president was immune to prosecution and all other citizens, among them vice presidents, could be arrested if there were sufficient grounds to suspect they had committed a crime.

“…No one has immunity except the President. Everyone else in this country is fair game. They are not above the law. There is no one above the law. If (you are) aware that someone did not follow the law, they should go to the powers that carry out this work and then they will be able to conduct their duty,” said Mnangagwa.

emmerson-mnangagwa

Mphoko was recently in the eye of a storm for visiting Avondale Police Station in Harare and ordering the release of senior executives from the Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (ZINARA) whose arrested had been initiated by ZACC.

Mnangagwa advised lawmakers and citizens that they must report such cases as Mphoko’s interference with the police to the law enforcement agency.

The co-vice president added that it was not government policy for Moyo to divert ZIMDEF funds towards political party activities.

Mphoko has been linked to a Zanu PF faction, Generation 40 (G40) to which Moyo reportedly belongs.

The G40 outfit is fiercely opposed to another camp led by Mnangagwa.

There is no love lost between Mnangagwa and Mphoko, who publicly dismissed the claim that he was junior to his counterpart and vowed during a rally that a person from the Karanga tribe where his rival comes from would succeed President Robert Mugabe.

The new differences between the two vice presidents come just weeks after Mugabe told Zanu PF supporters during a women’s wing meeting in Harare that the party leadership was united.

20 years jail for cop who turned daughter into s#x slave

A Bulawayo Traffic West police officer who turned his step-daughter (15) into a s#x slave, threatening to kill her if she exposed him, has been sentenced to 20 years in jail.

A court heard that the officer bragged to the girl and her mother that he would destroy all the evidence if they reported him to the police.

Custom Farai (32) had pleaded not guilty to rape but Bulawayo Regional Magistrate Mr Chrispen Mberewere convicted him due to overwhelming evidence.

Mr Mberewere suspended five years from the 20-year sentence, for five years on condition of good behaviour.

“This court seeks to protect the girl child from societal misfits like you. It does so by sending such people to jail for a very long time. Instead of protecting her you violated her rights and used your position of authority. Police officers should be at the forefront of protecting young children,” he said.

The court heard that the step-daughter, who cannot be named for ethical reasons, had visited her mother in Bulawayo from Mutare.

She testified that her mother left her alone at home while she went to the shops with her other siblings.

“My step-father found me sweeping in the sitting room. He asked me to get his car keys from the bedroom. He came after me and pushed me onto the bed.

“I fell on my back and he pinned me down with both hands. He raped me once. I bled during the process and I messed my clothes and the blankets. He pointed an okapi knife at me, threatening to stab me should I reveal the ordeal to anyone,” she said.

custom-farai

He ordered me to wash the blankets. When my mother returned, she asked me why I was washing them. I was scared to tell her what had happened,” she said.

The victim told the court her step- father began habitually raping her whenever her mother was away.

She said when she finally told her mother, she was furious and confronted Farai.

“He chased us around the house and threatened to kill us both if we reported him to the police. He said it was easy for him to make the evidence against him disappear because he is a police officer.”

The girl’s mother testified that Farai got aggressive when her daughter fell sick and he refused to let her go to hospital.

“He said I should take her to Dube, his friend who is a prophet so that he could pray for her. I told him that my daughter had missed her periods but he didn’t seem bothered. He brought her some tablets but still refused to give us money so that she could go to the hospital,” she said.

It was not disclosed in court what the girl was suffering from.

In his defence, Farai said: “We had an argument with my wife after I told her that I wanted to marry a second wife. She said it would be better that I marry her daughter than to marry a stranger.”

The prosecutor, Mr Simbarashe Manyiwa, said the girl’s evidence was consistent.

“Her mother denied offering her in marriage and you failed to challenge her. Neither could you challenge that you are an abusive man. You failed to challenge the allegation that you threatened to use your position to conceal evidence against you, neither could you explain why you refused to take your daughter to the hospital,” he said.

Prince Tendai’s painful last days – he went through a lot of physical and emotional pain.

When musician and businessman Prince Tendai died on December 27, 2011 he had gone through a lot of physical and emotional pain.

Sadly, his emotional complications came with one of the greatest shows in the land that featured Akon and Sean Paul at the National Sports Stadium.

The show was held on September 4, 2010 and it is still rated as one of the massive gigs held in Zimbabwe since Bob Marley brought down Rufaro Stadium during the country’s independence celebrations in 1980.

While thousands of people enjoyed the big concert, Prince Tendai was in deep emotional pain because the show left him in huge debts.

The show was not a flop but security leakages robbed the musician — who brought the international musicians through his ZimSwag promotions company — of the rewards he could have reaped if all income had come his way.

It is unfortunate that Prince Tendai had not recovered from the setback by the time of his death. For a man who lived a posh life and was renowned for his contribution to the business and art sectors, Prince Tendai had an agonising end.

His right-hand-man Joe “Local” Nyamungoma, who is now Suluman Chimbetu’s publicist, went down memory lane yesterday and shared some of the highs and lows of the departed musician’s career.

He remembers well the misfortune of the Akon — Sean Paul gig. It was called the “Real Deal” concert yet its organisers got a raw deal.

“We had planned everything well and we were looking ahead for a mega concert. Yes, it was a mega concert, but it resulted in the worst experience of my boss’ career. I had known Prince Tendai for almost 15 years, but he became a different person after that show,” recalled Nyamungoma.

“Seeing multitudes of fans in the stadium and getting income that did not reflect the situation on the ground was Prince Tendai’s hard blow. Since that show, he was never the same and other successive misfortunes made hell for everyone who was close to him. He was the most affected and it is touching to recall that he got a bad result from a good deal. He trusted so many people around him and many of them took advantage of that.

“On a Monday after the show, we saw some of the guys that were responsible for security buying cars. Prince Tendai could not believe it. We all knew that leakages were a result of slack security and many people involved in that area had made a lot by collecting money at the gates. Money that never reached the company.

“We could not confront them, but Prince Tendai was so touched. While many people were knocking at our offices asking for thousands that we owed them, others were buying cars and spending money that was supposed to go to those that had invested in the concert

alick-macheso-leftt-akon-centre-and-prince-tendai

Since that experience, Prince Tendai lived in stress due to debts. Unfortunately, while he tried to run around and stitch deals in attempt to make a recovery, Prince Tendai was involved in an accident and his latest Mercedes Benz ML was damaged beyond repair.

He had bought it just before the Akon gig and had not yet acquired full-cover insurance. It was another huge loss.

The accident took place just a month after the show. He was not injured but signs of stress on Prince Tendai increased. I was his spokesperson and personal driver and he shared many secrets. He told me that things were getting worse everywhere around him. He began confessing experiencing funny physical feelings and his speech became slurred while his arms became weak.

“Most local doctors said it was mild stroke and they could not do much to assist. An Indian doctor told us that it was motor neuron disease and chances of survival were slim. He was referred to a hospital in China and he went there thrice without much change.

“One day we visited his mother at her house and that was the first time I saw him crying. In all the years, he had shown a brave face even in hard times. He tried to assure his mother that he would get well, but emotions failed him. As she kept narrating and his mother looked worried, he eventually broke down. I had never seen him shed tears and I went out of the room. He called me back and said I should face the situation.

“He always wanted me to be on his side. Every day I would go to his house and take him in the morning. We drove around and met business partners, but it was a tough scenario. I remember one day he bought food at Fife Avenue shops and he could not eat. He said ‘let us share the food, it might be our last supper together’. I laughed and took the matter lightly, trying to assure him that he could recover.”

On his last trip to China for treatment, Prince Tendai got worse. He was accompanied by his brother and wife. The doctors apparently realised he could not make it and they sent him back home. He died on the very day he arrived.

“His wife told me that the condition had massively deteriorated. She said they were bringing him back home. They landed in Harare around 4pm. An ambulance took him from the airport to his house, but he got worse upon arrival. He was taken to a private hospital where he died at around 7pm that same day.

“His brother said it was amazing how Prince Tendai had arrived back home alive. He actually described him as a good fighter because he had made it through the long journey back home and died a few hours after arrival.”Nyamungoma said he will forever remember the good days he had with Prince Tendai, who taught him a lot about life.

They first met in 1996 when he went to the late artiste’s studio, High Density Records, when Simon Chimbetu was recording his album “Zuva Raenda”.Because he was an avid follower of Dendera music, Nyamungoma got an invitation from a friend who was close to Chimbetu and they went to the studio together.

“I had heard a lot about Prince Tendai and I was happy to meet him. The meeting was brief, but we exchanged notes. After about two years, he invited me to connect electricity at his new house in Emarald Hill.

”Nyamungoma had just graduated as an electrician from a local college and he began working on more projects for Prince Tendai in that capacity until the relationship grew stronger. Prince Tendai assisted Nyamungoma in recording his album “Mhoroi Mhoroi”, which was a dendera release.

As Prince Tendai established businesses, Nyamungoma became a key employee of Ekhaya Petroleum service stations. Because of their common interest in music, Nyamongoma became his boss’ spokesperson on the arts side and later became his driver and right-hand-man in most endeavours until his death.

Another Prophet in trouble for r#pe

A 57-YEAR-OLD prophet from Mberengwa has been sentenced to 20 years in jail for r#ping a 16-year-old girl after claiming he was removing evil scars from her private parts. The accused, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, pleaded not guilty to two counts of r#pe when he appeared before Regional Magistrate Mr Morgan Nemadire.

The magistrate convicted and jailed him to 20 years for both counts.Five years were suspended on condition of good behaviour. In passing sentence, Mr Nemadire said the prophet took advantage of a girl who, judging by her age, could be his grandchild.

“You were a prophet and the complainant and her mother took you in, but you took advantage of that and se_xually molested the complainant.“

“The age difference is wide and you could have been the complainant’s grandparent and you should have been responsible for her as you would have to your own grandchild,” said the magistrate.

“You have pleaded not guilty to the two counts saying that you were in a relationship with the minor and the two of you had agreed to have se_x.“However, the complainant said that you forced yourself on her and the doctor’s letter shows that there were tears on her hymen that were still fresh.”

Mr Nemadire rejected the prophet’s claims that he intended to marry his victim upon finishing Form Four.In his defence, the convict said the complainant had agreed to have se_xual relations with him.“I deny raping the complainant. We had actually agreed on having se_xual intercourse on the night in question.

“She was the one who came to where I was sleeping and started to seduce me.“Also her mother was the one who had facilitated my visits and pushed me to ask her to marry me,” he said.

Prosecuting, Mr Kelvin Guvheya said in May, the complainant and her mother met the prophet and he told them that the complainant had evil scars on her body and they were supposed to be removed.

Billiat on threshold of greatness

Warriors star forward Khama Billiat stands on the threshold of greatness today when leads his Mamelodi Sundowns side in the Champions League final first leg against Zamalek of Egypt at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria. (Kick-off 3-pm)

The second leg is scheduled for the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria, Egypt on October 23.

Billiat could become the first Zimbabwean player to win the Champions League, 18 years after Sunday Chidzambwa’s Dynamos came agonisingly close before crashing to a 4-2 aggregate defeat over ASEC Mimosas of Cote d’Ivoire in the final.

For Billiat and his colleagues at Sundowns, who include Warriors legend Peter Ndlovu, who is now the team manager at the Brazilians, today’s first leg encounter presents them with a chance to land the ultimate prize in club football on the continent.

khama-billiatBilliat this week told the media he was excited about facing a Zamalek side they met in the group stages.

The reigning South African Footballer of the Year reckoned their 3-0 hiding at the hands of Wits in the MTN8 final had served as a wake-up call.

“It’s a big lesson what we learnt. We love learning and we can’t choose the way we learn sometimes. That defeat was a wake-up call for us.

“I’m sure we are ready for anything right now and we don’t want to do the same mistake. We can make mistakes that we never did before, we are strong, and we watch our games. We even watch the games we lost to be better in the next game.

“We don’t want to lose again, it was so hard to digest. But at the end of the day, we don’t have much time to cry and mourn. We have to come back and do things right,’’ Billiat said. While they may have frozen against Wits, Billiat is upbeat it will be a different tale this afternoon.

“We are in a great space . . . now our minds are clear and we know what we are focusing on, one cup that we are going for all systems out. We are ready and it is good that we watch our games and we want to learn more and make sure that we rectify our mistakes (from the last game).

We want to go all the way and make sure that we deliver at the end of the day and not just be part of the final.

“We want to make sure that we have something that we can show that we were in the final. It will need us to focus and make sure we do the basics right.

“When there are two legs to be played, you definitely have to make sure that you score and not concede. Those are the basics that win you things. We need to score as many goals as we can, especially at home and make sure you don’t concede,” said Billiat.

The Champions League final is the biggest club fixture for any player’s career on any continent and Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane acknowledged as much.

Mosimane told his club’s website that the Champions League is the ultimate prize he wants, having won several accolades with the Brazilians on the domestic front.

“We spent time and resources preparing for this. The Champions League is big history. It is legacy, and this is what inspires me,” Mosimane said.

“If you take domestic cups — you play three games and you are in the final.

“We have been playing for nine months. We have prepared on training pitches where the grass is knee high. We have spent six to eight hours in transit.

“The referees are different. In domestic competition, we know the referees and their style. Comparing the Champions League with the domestic cups — not that they are not important — is like chalk and cheese,” Mosimane said.

Mosimane noted that this competition and their preparation around the continent, took them out of their comfort zone. Zamalek, who flew into South Africa on Wednesday had four of their players in action in the World Cup qualifiers for Egypt last weekend and their coach Moamen Soliman, promised to resign should he not guide his club to success.

“The coach will win this cup,” Ahmed Mortada Mansour, Zamalek director and son of the club’s chairman, said.

“I heard about what the coach said in Egypt. I have trust in him and the players. It’s more important to win the Champions League than the league. But we didn’t lose by a huge margin in the league which shows we weren’t that far off.“But for me, the Champions League is number one.
