Report: Govt wants share in Invictus oil deal. The draft agreement is in place and the final agreement is expected in the next few weeks.

Zimbabwe is pushing for a stake in Invictus Cabora Basa oil project in Muzarabani. Mines Minister Winston Chitando said that the Government will get a certain percentage of the production.

Paul Chimbodza, the local partner in the project said that the agreement could see the government establishing its own infrastructure at the production site to claim its share of the resources.

Invictus has already spent US$3.5 million in preliminary work before sinking its six-kilometre deep test wells.

President Mnangagwa’s son duped. Samson Mavhunga (31), who is charged with fraud, appeared before magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti yesterday and was remanded to September 22 for trial.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s son, Emmerson Tanaka, was allegedly duped of US$1 000 by a Harare man who promised to deliver suits for his wedding on August 25 last year.

The court heard that sometime in May 2019, Mnangagwa met Mavhunga who indicated that he specialised in designing and supplying wedding suits. Mnangagwa developed an interest since he was preparing for his wedding which was scheduled for August 25, 2019. The two exchanged phone numbers for communication purposes.

In June last year, Mnangagwa allegedly gave Mavhunga an order to supply five Italian-designed suits. Mavhunga allegedly charged Mnangagwa US$3 500 for the five suits before he was paid $1 000 deposit, with the balance of US$2 500 to be paid upon delivery.

It is alleged Mavhunga promised to deliver the suits two weeks before the wedding day, but later became evasive, leading to his arrest. Caroline Mutimusakwa appeared for the State.

Senior Zanu-PF officials and corporate executives yesterday fell over each other to spoil President Emmerson Mnangagwa with presents that included flowers and expensive whisky brands on his 78th birthday.

As Mnangagwa celebrated his birthday on Tuesday, Zanu-PF politburo members, among them party chairperson Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, secretary for administration Obert Mpofu and acting youth leader Tendai Chirau made a beeline to hand over goodies to him amid bootlicking.

“We cherish the manner in which you are championing the socio-economic agenda with a clear vision 2030 aimed at delivering prosperity to our people,” Muchinguri-Kashiri said before handing over two bouquets of flowers on behalf of the party’s politburo.

“We are, indeed, humbled to be serving under your wise leadership.” Mpofu, who once signed off as the late former leader Robert Mugabe’s “ever obedient son”, could not be outdone in praise-singing his new boss.

“Those of us well-acquainted with your leadership credentials towards the accomplishment of the liberation assignment and the post-colonial nation-building agenda, are proud to serve under you,” Mpofu said.

Said Chirau: “On behalf of the youth league, your children, we wish you many years. We know you are dedicated to the service of this nation with your selfless leadership since the days of the liberation struggle.”

A local hotel group linked to government spoiled him with a huge cake and a bottle of Glenfiddich 18-year-old single malt scotch whisky.

“Unfortunately, this is 15 because we could not get the right package, but otherwise it is 18 years. We hope you will get time to enjoy it when you are relaxing at home,” the hotel representative said.

“We are proud to have you as our leader, we are grateful that you have allowed us to flourish even in very difficult times. It is our prayer that the Lord will give you more years so that we can enjoy being with you and learn from you as much as we can.”

Mnangagwa is said to be a whisky addict and usually takes time in his “wet season” to invite friends and colleagues at his Pricabe Farm in Kwekwe for drinks.

In an interview with the Financial Times in January 2018, Mnangagwa said the culture of a “wet and dry season” began in 1978 during the liberation struggle and has never stopped, adding that his family enjoyed him more during the “wet season”.

The reality star was seeing jumping up and down on the bed, wearing nothing but a thong and a T-shirt, which she rolled up to show her stomach. The three farmers applied to the High Court to execute the High Court order pending the outcome of the Mugabes’ appeal. They wanted to reclaim the seized plots and evict the late president’s widow.

But Justice Owen Tagu on Monday said the court would allow the Mugabes’ application to substitute the late president with the executor of his estate who is yet to be appointed. He ordered the matter struck off the roll.

Justice Tagu said: “In my view it is permissible for a deceased person to be substituted by another party… I do not agree with counsel for the applicants (farmers) that the court cannot take judicial notice of the passing of a former head of state given that his passing was widely announced and some days of mourning were actually declared. His passing is public knowledge.

But the cases died down and she is now utilizing them it seems. The picture above seems to have confirmed it all.

Harare City Council warns against stream-bank cultivation. Harare’s Environmental Management Unit head Mr Lisben Chipfunde yesterday warned residents not to embark of stream bank cultivation this season. Harare has a lot of rivers streams.

Harare City Council has warned that it is going to enforce the environmental bans on cultivating within 30m of any stream to prevent further siltation of supply dams.

Four rivers, the Mukuvisi running right through the centre, the Marimba running along with the western suburbs, the Gwebi in the northern suburbs and the Umwindsi in the northeast suburbs form the basic drainage, but all three have innumerable tributaries which are also defined public streams.

Mr Chipfunde said Statutory Instrument 7 of 2007 of the Environmental Management Act prohibits any cultivation or other activities on land within 30m of the naturally defined banks of a public stream.

“What it means is that all the streams and their tributary which are in Harare or in the Upper Manyame catchment there is no activity that should happen from the naturally defined banks of a stream,” he said.

Mr Chipfunde said there has been increased siltation of rivers and the city’s raw water sources, particularly Lake Chivero, Lake Manyame, Harava and Seke are now being filled up by silt coming from land degradation principally from stream bank cultivation.

Mr Chipfunde said the use of fertiliser too close to the river was also increasing the pollution load which was actually hindering treatment processes at two of their water treatment works Morton Jaffray and Prince Edward dam waterworks.

It is possible to obtain permission to plant closer to a stream, but this is never granted to informal land users and requires formal farmers to undertake required earth movements and other measures to prevent silt entering a stream.

Savior Kasukuwere responds to news of him seeking re-admisson into Zanu PF. Communicating through his tweeter handle, Kasukuwere was responding to Acting Secretary of Information and Publicity for Zanu PF Cde Patrick Chinamasa whom he called ‘dishonest’.

Exiled former member of Zanu PF, ex-Cabinet Minister and G40 branded kingpin Saviour Kasukuwere has vowed to remain a member of Zanu PF as long as due constitutional process was not done by the party to expell him.

Chinamasa speaking at a Politburo meeting in Harare, revealed that Kasukuwere and his brothers, including some G40 elements, were seeking to come back into the Zanu PF party but at the same time continued to peddle falsehoods about Zanu PF and the situation obtaining in the country. “There are some G-40 members who come and say they want to be readmitted, but go and work against the party,” lambasted Chinamasa.

Dismissing Chinamasa, Kasukuwere pointed out that he was still a card-carrying Zanu PF member, and can only cease to be when due constitutional process has been done. “I remain a card-carrying member of the party until due process is carried in line with the party’s constitution.”

Kasukuwere also said he remains ‘committed’ to Zanu Pf, a notion which was rejected by Chinamasa who accuses the former Youth Minister for working with NGOs, the opposition and other elements to unsit the current government of President Mnangagwa. Chinamasa said Kasukuwere wanted to play good in the day yet tarnishing the party during the night.

“One such comrade is Saviour Kasukuwere and his brothers who in the dead of the night, are planning to undermine the Zanu PF Government and during day light they say they want to be readmitted to the party. We do not allow such hypocrisy,” said the Acting Zanu PF Secretary.

Kasukuwere, however, appeared unfazed by Chinamasa’s comments, and said he was committed to sorting out legitimacy issues around Mnangagwa’s rule, and also help in the national crisis that has befallen the country of Zimbabwe. “The crisis is national in nature and cannot be reduced to individuals or factions. I am clear about how we should fix the legitimacy issues all round and will keep my eye on the ball. This is the main cause of our crisis,” said Kasukuwere.

Kasukuwere, Jonathan Moyo, Walter Mzembi and Patrick Zhuwawo are former Ministers who crossed the border after 2017 restore legacy operation, that saw the unseating of former president Mugabe and the coming in of President Mnangagwa. The team has become vocal against Mnangagwa’s rule through social media outlets and other news platforms. The government of Zimbabwe, however, maintains that the team is wanted in Zimbabwe to answer for serious charges of corruption.

Commenting on Kasukuwere’s Twitter handle, one Simboti, said it was clear that Kasukuwere’s fight was not a national agenda but a personal one and this has proven difficult for Kasukuwere because Mnangagwa is in power.

” .. You are fighting a personal agenda not a national one. What you only care about is retaining your positions in Zanu pf which is a bit difficult with ED in power,” said Simboti. Hermish Dunga also commented on Kasukuwere’s post and warned that the threat posed by Kasukuwere’s team is more dangerous than the opposition parties in Zimbabwe.

‘Me thinks the threat being posed by G40 elements to the 2nd republic ( Mnangagwa’s government) is much more dangerous than the threat being caused by the opposition elements. Why? 1. G40 are privy to the inner dealings of the zanu pf and government by virtue of them serving on the highest level, warned Dunga. The question that remains is, who is more Zanu PF than the other? The Mnangagwa team or the Exiled Kasukuwere team.

Norton Member of Parliament Temba Mliswa has accused Commissioner General of the Police Godwin Matanga of working with Minister of Local government July Moyo to sell fraudulently acquired stands.

Mliswa further alleged that the land belonged to the state and there were court orders granting some residents to occupy it.

“This is state land given to the people. Aspindale 48 & 49, Wadzanai & Takawira Co-ops won court orders to reside on the state land they were given. The corrupt practices & those that engage in such activities must be shamed. Billy, through a fraudulent system, forged papers.

“If he did indeed buy the land from Rothmans, where is his proof of payment & a statement from Rothmans confirming the same?”

Somizi Mhlongo-Motaung is finally taking to Instagram to address the recent rumours about his cooking show, “Dinner At Somizi’s”.

The “Idols SA“ judge took to social media to let his fans and followers know that he will be doing an Instagram Live session on Thursday, September 17 at 7pm to address any questions people may have for him.

“See you guys at 7pm tonight, we’re going live, I’m going live. Any questions you want to ask me, I’ll be there to answer.

“Decisively, apparently, concurrently and allegedly, I will answer okay. I will see you at 7 o’clock, we will be talking the latest story, “Dinner At Somizi’s” and many more.

“So whatever you want to ask me I’ll gladly, gladly, gladly answer you. That’s the beauty about this platform, you can hear three sides of the story,” he said in the video.

Somizi was accused of intellectual property theft for his hit show “Dinner at Somizi’s”.

Evidence emerged on social media to prove that the idea of “Dinner at Somizi’s” was not Somizi’s original idea, but that of Hastings Moeng.

In his proposal to Somizi, Moeng stated that he had had the idea of the show since 2010 and was hoping the duo would assist him in bringing the show to life.

“Please receive this as an expression of interest to partner up with you on the idea. I’ve not done a show before, though I am confident that between us we have a database of the right people to bring this to life,” wrote Moeng.

He added: ‘“Dinner kwa Somizi’ is a weekly lifestyle and entertainment talk show that sees South African all-round entertainer Somizi Mhlongo chat to fellow entertainers over dinner.

Amnesty seeks probe into Mozambique’s n@ked woman who was shot 36 times. Video footage emerged this week showing men in army uniform beating a woman they accused of being a member of an armed group and then shooting her in the back as she tried to flee.

Rights watchdog Amnesty International has called for an independent probe into the killing of a n@ked pregnant woman by men in military uniform in Mozambique’s restive north, an atrocity the government blamed on armed rebels.

“Four different gunmen shot her a total of 36 times with a variety of Kalashnikov rifles and a PKM-style machine gun,” Amnesty said, demanding an “impartial investigation into the extrajudicial killing”.

One of the uniformed men hits her in the head and body with a stick before others shoot and, they say in the video, kill her on the side of the road. It was filmed in the northernmost province of Cabo Delgado, where soldiers are fighting an armed rebellion.

Amnesty cited a local military source as saying they killed her because she had cast a spell on the army, and refused to show them the insurgents’ hideout. Last week, the rights group said it had verified videos showing attempted beheadings, torture, the dismemberment of alleged opposition fighters and possible extrajudicial executions.

“This horrendous video is yet another gruesome example of the gross human rights violations and merciless killings taking place in Cabo Delgado by the Mozambican security forces,” said Deprose Muchena, Amnesty International’s director for East and Southern Africa.

But Interior Minister Amade Miquidade on Tuesday said the killers were armed fighters dressed in uniforms “identical” to that of government troops. “The video showing atrocities against a pregnant woman is propaganda by terrorists,” he said in an audio statement. “The video was made by terrorists … to confuse the public and it is not the first time that this has happened.”

Report: Top military bosses Get upmarket residential stands. A report by Zim Morning Post reveals that Brigadier-General Anslem Sanyatwe was among the beneficiaries. Some of Zimbabwe’s top military officials reportedly acquired large residential stands in Harare’s leafy suburbs ahead of residents who have been on the house waiting list for many years.

According to the report, Town Clerk Admire Chisango allocated a residential stand to Sanyatwe on October 21 irrespective that he had acquired another stand on January 25, 2018. Chisango wrote to Sanyatwe: Please, be advised that you have been selected for the offer of an unserviced residential stand, number 1052, in Mt Pleasant Township, Harare.

The allocation is a replacement of the remainder of stand 17291 STL (40683 STL) in Borrowdale West that was allocated to you on January 25, 2018. Sanyatwe is currently Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Tanzania and former commander of the Zimbabwean National Army’s Presidential Guard Brigade.

The issuance of residential stands to top army officials comes at a time the Harare City Council (HCC) top officials have been arrested on corruption and abuse of office charges. In a statement this Thursday, the MDC Alliance said the real authors of corruption in the country’s local authorities are not councillors. The statement read:

The real authors of corruption in our local authorities are not councillors. They have no legal power to allocate stands. This is done by the secretariat. In this scandal, the town clerk allocated stands to senior army officials. When will they be arrested? Where is ZACC (the Zimbabwe Anti-corruption Commission)?
