MDC A’s Joana Mamombe granted separation of trial

MDC A’s Joana Mamombe granted separation of trial. Mrs Makwande, in her ruling on the State application for separation of trial, said there were conflicting doctors’ reports on when Mamombe will heal from mental ailments she is suffering from, leaving the court with no clue on whether she will heal or not.

Deputy Chief Magistrate Mrs Bianca Makwande today ruled that MDC-ALLIANCE member Joana Mamombe stands on her own on allegations of faking abductions sometime in May this year while her co-accused Cecelia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova jointly appear on the same charges.

She said one doctor indicated that Mamombe will heal in nine months while another noted that she will be fine within a month.

“In my view, the separation of trial will not prejudice the accused. Reports of the doctors are conflicting and at the end of the day, it is unclear whether she will be able to stand trial before six months. Justice requires that each accused stands trial within a reasonable time,” said Mrs Makwande in her ruling.

Chimbiri and Marova are expected to return to court on December 7 for trial. Mr Michael Reza appeared for the State while lawyer Mr Alec Muchadehama represented Mamombe, Chimbiri and Marova.

Tendai Biti: White farmers returning to their Farms

Tendai Biti: White farmers returning to their Farms. Zimbabwe embarked on the chaotic land reform program two decades ago and many white farmers lost their farms, yet, the bulky of those who took over the farms are failing to use the land to full capacity.

Former Finance Minister (GNU era), Tendai Biti has claimed that white commercial farmers are quietly returning back to their farms where they are renting the land from non-productive black beneficiaries who have failed to utilise it.

This has resulted in the country failing to produce enough grain for consumption let alone export. Biti said a brief study on the land reform programme showed some evicted white farmers were returning back to their former farms under individual lease agreements with the new black farm beneficiaries. He said:

A cursory study of the land reform process shows massive and existence of leases of acquired land to former white farmers.

Mashonaland West and the Midlands provinces have the highest number of white lessees. That being the case, the land reform is now a joke. The creation of black land-owning rentier class whose sole function is to extract rent from land is a negation of land reform programme.

It is a true reflection of how lost and how vacuous Zanu PF under (President) Emmerson (Mnangagwa) has become. This parasitic class of landlords must be expunged.

Biti went on to call for an urgent land audit to flush out unproductive farmers while also demanding that landowners should be issued offer letters. He added that it was imperative that the beneficiaries of the land reform pay and fund the US$ 3.5 billion in compensation to whites.

Biti speaks as the government has resolved to pay US$3.5 billion to former white farm owners as compensation for improvements made on the farms.

The move has infuriated various stakeholders who believe the compensation will adversely affect the broke Southern African country’s efforts to revive the collapsed economy.

More schools record COVID-19 cases in Mat South with Matopo High being the latest. The number of cases at John Tallach High School in Ntabazinduna, Matabeleland North has since risen while Emakhandeni Primary school in Bulawayo has also recorded some cases.

The Covid-19 cases in schools are rising following reported cases in schools in Matabeleland region and Matopo High School in Matabeleland South is the latest school to be quarantined after 10 Covid-19 cases were recorded.

Two weeks ago, Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga who is also the Minister of Health and Child Care warned of the possibility of the country being hit by a second wave of Covid-19 saying ignorance, denial and wishful thinking could lead to more deaths.

Schools have become the latest institutions to be hit by the virus after their phased reopening which started on September 28. In the latest case, Matopo High school has been turned into a quarantine centre to prevent the further spreading of the virus after 10 cases were recorded.

Matabeleland South Provincial Medical Director, Dr Rudo Chikodzore said they were yet to establish the number of schools that have recorded positive cases in Matobo District as results were still coming in.

She said samples had been collected from a number of schools. “We collected a number of samples from various schools in Matobo District as part of the rapid response to check on the situation in schools. Some of the results came out positive in some of the schools but we are still to compile a final report as we are still receiving results. We don’t have the conclusive number of schools because the results are still coming in,” she said.

Passion Java’s unfortunate Mutare trip. With the police concerned by the growing number of gatherings, which violate Covid-19 lockdown regulations, Prophet Passion’s movements became a cause of concern. Controversial prophet, Passion Java says he had to abandon his intended tour of Mutare on Friday after attracting crowds bigger than anticipated.

The other problem being that the crowds affected businesses as they blocked entrances to offices and shops that did not have anything to do with Prophet Passion’s tour.

He spent time at the Diamond FM studios, doing a live programme on the very popular radio station in the city. A huge crowd gathered outside the building and his exit, after interviews, took long as security sought to clear them in a peaceful manner.

“I have had to abandon my tour of Mutare because of the crowds that have gathered wherever I have been in Mutare. This had created problems and it’s in the best interests of everyone that I go back to Harare,” said Prophet Passion.

Until his current stint in the country, Prophet Passion was not known for pulling crowds but a successful social media campaign has seen him become one of the most followed Zimbabweans on those platforms.

As countries the world over enter new lockdowns, South Africans fear they might be in for the same fate ahead of the festive season.

As such, seeing fellow South Africans partake in behaviour that they fear could lead to this fate, is a sore point for many.

DJ Lamiez Holworthy

One such instance was a recent video posted by DJ Lamiez Holworthy, which was filmed earlier this week at an event in Kuruman, Northern Cape.

DJ Lamiez Holworthy

The video showed large numbers of people gathered in close proximity, with none of them wearing masks.

The post immediately drew concern from her followers.

“Is this now in 2020? Hey I’m confused. Coz It’s as though we not faced with the possibility of a severe second wave of Coronavirus,” commented Thandi MaNcube on Facebook.

“People are not wearing masks, screaming like nobody’s business,” added Mosala Pale Manoto.

“Are these people suicidal?” asked Mbuks Bahla.

As of 18 November 2020, the number of detected Covid-19 cases in South Africa stood at 757,144.

Norman Mapeza’s happy return. He took over the reins from Pieter De Jongh after CAF ruled he was not eligible to sit on the bench for FC Platinum’s Champions League matches, as he does not have a CAF A license.

Norman Mapeza says it feels great to be back at his former team FC Platinum. “It feels great; you know as you are aware that I’ve been here for quite some time.

“And it’s nice, it’s good to see everybody here, everyone is looking well and l can see that everyone is in good health and l just can’t wait to work,” he said. Mapeza left Pure Platinum Play and had a short stint in South Africa and joined Chippa United.

He says that he needs to assess the players as they prepare for the CAF Champions League preliminary round against Mozambique’s Costa de Sol. “I still have to see what is on the ground, you know it’s always difficult to give yourself some targets at the end of it but you have to work.

“You have to work and you have to continue from where the guys left and you are aware that we are having a massive game over the weekend against Costa de Sol.

“So preparations have already started we have to prepare,” he said. He added: “The immediate task is to work on the plan against Costa de Sol.

“Like l said, I have to see the squad and start working from there you know I can’t say much because I haven’t seen much of these guys for quite some time. “So it’s better to have a look first then maybe we can talk about what will be the plan for the future,” he said.

Mapeza says he is also asking for fans’ support. “I know I’m back now, the support they gave us when I was still here is the same support I wish they should give me again.

“They should know that I’ve always loved them even when I left this place it wasn’t easy for me but I will always appreciate their support,” he said.

Churches unite as they continue to mourn Tapiwa Makore. Mourners have continued gathering in solidarity with the Makore family almost three months after a young Tapiwa Makore, 7, was grisly murdered for ritual purposes.

A relative (aunt) who spoke to this publication Sunday said some relatives had gathered for the funeral from as far as Harare and were still there waiting for the search for Tapiwa’s missing body parts which include the head, arms and limps.

Relatives and neighbours have continued to console the family with church services being held on Thursdays and Sundays at Makore’s homestead.

“The church has united as different denominations converge here on Thursdays and Sundays for church services. “As a family we have resolved to continue gathering as we wait for the search for the missing body parts to be completed.

“We want our child to rest in peace and the church has really helped us with a comforting word. “There is a way. God is going to intervene and see that justice is done,” said the relative. The relatives said it was appalling that some people had chosen to egoistic means to end a boy’s life in order to enrichen themselves.

“This is being selfish. “Why don’t people work for their wealth. “It is sad that some people choose evil means to earn a living,” said the relative. The relative said they were optimistic that the missing body parts would be found.

“We believe in God and were are optimistic that the head would be found so that we give our kid a decent burial.”

The search for Tapiwa’s missing body parts yielded nothing on Wednesday and Thursday last week with the suspect and uncle, Thanks Makore reported to have suggested that the head was in the fowl run before shifting goalposts that he had buried the head in a field.

Nineteen hours of digging and searching proved fruitless in the two-day search at Thanks’ Damofalls home.

Police have so far arrested Tafadzwa Shamba who is suspected to be one of the killers, Tapiwa Makore who is the late boy’s uncle, Moud Hunidzarira, 42, who has since appeared in court, Mai Mungandire and Mai Katsande who bought meat from the killer but had no idea that it was human flesh and Thanks who is said to be having the head with a search being done at his house.

They say, ‘there is no perfect relationship without a fight’, and that is what we got to learn over the weekend after news broke out that there was a fight in the Mzansi rapper’s paradise.

However, things seem to be going okay in the Forbes camp, after rapper, Kiernan Forbes ‘AKA’ and his girlfriend Nelli Tembe found their way back into each other’s arms again, after a publicized lover’s spat.

A local publication reported over the weekend that AKA and Nelli Tembe got into a lover’s quarrel, which escalated into a physical fight, such that the two of them had to be taken to the police to resolve their matter.

According to reports, AKA and Nelli Tembe had a fight over infidelity rumors at his Bryanston home and the police had to intervene before things escalated.

AKA And Nelli Tembe

Nelli Tembe is said to have stated that she was tired of putting up with AKA and she was moving out, with her bags already packed.

Said a source: “When the police got to the house, they were still fighting and her bags were packed. She told the police that she was tired of his behaviour and was leaving [him]. She told them that she was going to book herself into a hotel and stay there before going [back] home,

The two reportedly ended up at Randburg Police Station, where they wanted to lay criminal charges against each other, with Nelli Tembe claiming that AKA roughed her up while he claimed that she slapped him.

However, no charges were laid by either party.

It seems like the couple kissed and made up and it’s now business as usual.

Nelli Tembe posted a picture of her and AKA cuddling on her Instagram stories and captioned it.

He for keeps’ to which AKA replied with an

‘I love you’

Nelli Tembe and AKA

AKA also denied breaking up with Nelli when a fan asked him on Twitter, if they had broken up, saying:  “Hell naw”.

In the past, AKA and his ex-girlfriend Bonang Matheba, were accused of faking breakups in order to generate publicity or to get people hyped up before dropping new stuff.

Prost!tute fined for stealing from client. Portia Maramba of Stories mine, Mazowe pleaded guilty to the charge. A Mazowe s.e.x worker who stole a client’s mobile phone on the pretext of charging it was fined $3000 last week at Concession magistrates courts.

In her own plea of guilty Maramba who confirmed to be a sex worker said the phone acted as leverage since the complainant had refused to pay for two rounds they had together.

“Your worship l admit the charge but l took the phone as compensation to the two rounds l gave him since he did not pay me,” said Maramba. Prosecutor Moses Kuimba told the court that sometime in October Morgan Bimha hooked Maramba and went to her house.

Upon arriving, Bimha gave Maramba his mobile phone to charge whilst enjoying the pleasantries of the night and he slept over her house.

When he was about to leave he asked for his charged phone but Maramba refused to give him. He left and filed a police report leading to the recovery of his mobile phone and the arrest of the accused.

Fifa Ethics Committee found Madagascar’s Ahmad to have breached a number of statutes including articles 15 (Duty of loyalty), 20 (Offering and accepting gifts or other benefits) and 25 (Abuse of position) of the 2020 edition of the Fifa Code of Ethics, as well as article 28 (Misappropriation of funds) of the 2018 edition.

The world football governing body, Fifa, has banned Caf president, Ahmad Ahmad, for five years from football-related activities and fined him 200 000 Swiss Franc (USD220 288) for unprofessional conduct. Fifa said:

The investigation into Mr Ahmad’s conduct in his position as Caf president during the period from 2017 to 2019 concerning various Caf-related governance issues, including the organisation and financing of an Umrah pilgrimage to Mecca, his involvement in Caf’s dealings with the sports equipment company Tactical Steel and other activities.

In its decision, following an extensive hearing, the adjudicatory chamber ruled that, based on information gathered by the investigatory chamber, Mr Ahmad had breached his duty of loyalty, offered gifts and other benefits, mismanaged funds and abused his position as the Caf president, pursuant to the Fifa Code of Ethics.

Consequently, the adjudicatory chamber found that Mr Ahmad had breached arts 15, 20 and 25 of the current edition of the Fifa Code of Ethics, as well as art. 28 of the 2018 edition, and sanctioned him with a ban from all football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) at both national and international level for five years. In addition, a fine in the amount of CHF 200,000 has been imposed on Mr Ahmad.

The terms of the decision were notified to Mr Ahmad today, the date on which the ban comes into force. In accordance with art. 78 par. 2 of the FIFA Code of Ethics, the full, motivated decision will be notified to Mr Ahmad in the next 60 days, after which it will be published on legal.fifa.com.

Ahmad had indicated that he would seek reelection next year when the Caf Elective General Assembly is held on 12 March in Rabat, Morocco, but his candidature has been thrown into disarray.

Ahmad was elected CAF president in 2017 with the help of COSAFA President, Philip Chiyangwa, who was his campaign manager during the elections that toppled Hayatou.

Report: How the Bushiri’s were smuggled out of South Africa

Report: How the Bushiri’s were smuggled out of South Africa. The Bushiris are wanted in South Africa for alleged fraud and money laundering involving R100 million. Solomon Harudzibwi has shared a Twitter thread by Piet Mahasha Rampedi.

An editor at AfricanTimes News and ex-radio talk show host, which suggests that Malawian preacher, Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary skipped South Africa’s borders with the help of both Presidents Cyril Ramaphosa and Lazarus Chakwera. Below is the thread.

Bushiri approached Chakwera for help through the Malawian embassy; Chakwera instructed the embassy to hatch a plan to save Bushiri and his multi-million rand assets or smuggle him out of South Africa;

Malawian intelligence operatives at the embassy considered options, including smuggling him through Mozambique, whisking him off in the presidential jet, or lobbying for Mary’s acquittal and a lesser sentence for Bushiri;

After spending two weeks in jail, Bushiri was given the options and flatly refused the SA jail option; Chakwera, through the Malawian embassy, then lobbied the Ramaphosa administration for assistance; The Malawians banked on their constitution which protects diplomats and bars extraditions unless the suspect was sought for murder or treason.

Some members of the judiciary were then lobbied to ensure Bushiri was released on “soft” bail with less stringent conditions, no attachment of his bank accounts and assets except the R5m property in Centurion; Both governments agreed to approve Chakwera’s request for a state visit and use it to smuggle Bushiri out via Air Force Base Waterkloof; An advance team was then sent to SA to finalise logistical preparations for Bushiri’s escape;

The Bushiris were fetched from their home in Centurion in a Malawian embassy vehicle and issued with false diplomatic passports and had facial cosmetic changes applied on them; However, SA police, military and diplomatic officers at Waterkloof raised questions about three passengers – two males and a female – whose names did not appear on Chakwera’s preapproved passenger list;

With rumours that the Bushiris failed to report to the police station, the officials got more suspicious as the height of two passengers resembled that of Bushiri and Mary; A fracas ensued as the military police wanted to detain the three passengers, but the Malawians sought Department of International Relations and Co-operation Minister Naledi Pandor’s intervention;

Pandor dispatched officials to sort out the problem &!they agreed the 3 suspicious passengers would be allowed to board Chakwera’s plane at OR Tambo; Chakwera’s plane made a stopover at OR Tambo, 25km from Waterkloof, to pick up the advanced team which included the Bushiris;

Bushiri and Mary, with facial cosmetics to disguise them, were whisked onto the place through the diplomatic entrance; Three members of the advance team were left behind to secure and dispose of Bushiri’s assets; The plane left SA shortly after 10pm last Friday and landed in Malawi after midnight; The Malawian government ordered a media blackout at the airport before Chakwera’s arrival;

The Bushiris disembarked from the plane immediately after Chakwera and his wife;
Some journalists managed to capture footage of the Bushiris disembarking, but the Malawian intelligence later confiscated and classified it as top secret; 19 In SA, intelligence officers and some government officials lobbied or spun journalists and editors to blame the country’s porous borders and corruption for Bushiri’s escape.

MDC A Condemns State-sponsored violence in Uganda

MDC A Condemns State-sponsored violence in Uganda. The violent arrests were effected under the pretext of enforcing COVID 19 rules. However, the disproportionate use of force by the security forces resulted in the death of more than 37 unarmed civilians while many were injured.

The MDC Alliance condemns the recent state-sponsored violence in Uganda. The violence resulted in the arbitrary arrest of opposition figures including National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate, Mr Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu popularly known as “Bobi Wine”.

Elections continue to be highly contentious in authoritarian states across the continent including in Zimbabwe. Fascist regimes including Uganda and Zimbabwe are invoking the COVID 19 pandemic as an excuse to stifle dissent. Opposition leaders and supporters are constantly targeted for harassment, assault, arbitrary arrests, abductions and extrajudicial killings among other human rights violations.

These atrocities violate national constitutions, regional and continental law including the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance. These legal instruments guarantee political rights and multiparty democracy. Similar state-sponsored violence in the context of elections was witnessed in Tanzania and the Ivory Coast following their recent disputed electoral processes.

Political competition and plurality are the hallmark of a democratic society and must be celebrated and embraced as key stimulants for societal development. We call upon Ugandan authorities to take sufficient measures to ensure that the upcoming January 2021 elections are held in line with democratic principles and the electoral playing field is levelled to allow fair electoral competition where all political parties have unfettered access to potential voters and the will of the people prevails.

We further call upon the East African Community. the African Union and the rest of the international community to take proactive measures to ensure the conflict in Uganda does not further deteriorate and the January 2021 elections are held in line with domestic and international law governing the conduct of democratic elections.

Health Minister VP Chiwenga fails to explain photosynthesis: Video

Health Minister VP Chiwenga fails to explain photosynthesis: Video. The former army boss claimed that humans breathe carbon while they get oxide from trees. While some say Chiwenga’s blunder is to be put on President Emmerson Mnangagwa who appointed him even when he did not deserve the posts, we believe the ‘fault’ was a mere slip of the tongue.

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga who doubles as the Minister of Health and Child Care has made another blunder by failing to explain the photosynthesis process.

A Health Minister who also happens to be a PhD holder should know that through photosynthesis, leaves pull in carbon dioxide and water and use the energy of the sun to convert this into chemical compounds such as sugars that feed the tree.

As a by-product of that chemical reaction, oxygen is produced and released by the tree. Humans and other living organisms then take in that oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide which is again absorbed by trees.

5 people struck by lightning in Chiredzi. A police report says one of the five died on the spot, while four others were taken to Hippo Valley Medical Centre for treatment. Five people were struck by lightning last night at Hippo Valley Mill in Chiredzi while they were on their way to work.

Police say the deceased, Herbert Mukwetura aged 21 of Chishamiso Village, was on his way to work at Tongaat Hullets Hippo Valley Mill with four of his workmates.

The report further says upon reaching flyover point at the mill, the five were struck by a bolt of lightning and fell down. They were taken to Hippo Valley Medical Centre where Mukwetura was pronounced dead.

The tragedy happens when the Meteorological Services Department (MSD) is warning members of the public about weather-related hazards including floods, hailstorm, lightning among others as the rain season has started.

Some schools have since been destroyed by hailstorm across the country, including in Chipinge and Chimanimani Districts in Manicaland Province, risking refreshing memories of tropical Cyclone Idai which swept the Eastern and Southern parts of Zimbabwe.

Victims are yet to fully recover from the disaster that has seen the international community and the government disbursing funds to cushion them from the impact.
