Bulawayo councillors reportedly reached a deadlock over the position on chairperson of the Finance and Development Standing Committee, with a run-off now expected to be held in the next couple of weeks.

The local authority had to shuffle its committees after the Dr Thokozani Khupe-led MDC-T recalled eight of its councillors, while one, Councillor Ronnia Mudhara of Ward Eight passed away in July. Further, the local authority was left without a chairperson for the Finance and Development Committee after the incumbent, Clr Mlandu Ncube was elevated to become Deputy Mayor.

This left three committees – Finance and Development, Health, Housing and Education and the Environmental Management and Engineering services – without substantive chairpersons.

According to council sources, councillors elected Alderman Siboniso Khumalo as the new chairperson of the Environmental Management and Engineering Services Standing Committee, taking over from the recalled Ald Norman Hlabano, with Clr Sinikiwe Mutanda becoming the Health, Housing and Education Committee chairperson, taking over from the recalled Alderman Lillian Mlilo.

However, for the Finance and Development Committee, there was a stalemate after the two interested candidates, Clr Tawanda Ruzive and Clr Silas Chigora both polled four votes each. Clr Chigora who is in his second term as a councillor- if elected- it will be his third reign as chairperson for the committee, while for Clr Ruzive it will be his first.

“There were efforts to redo the elections on the day, or have the two reach a consensus but it was to no avail, so as it stands there will be a run-off in the next sitting of the Finance and Development Committee, hopefully, this time around there will be a definite winner.

However, we understand there is now a jostling between the two councillors as they fight for votes with one of them even giving councillors in the committee 20 litres of fuel each just to get the majority vote,” said the source.

Contacted for comment, the Mayor, Clr Solomon Mguni confirmed that there was a stalemate in the initial vote hence the scheduled run-off vote.

“What will happen now is that the elections will be done at the next meeting of the Finance and Development Committee, with the same two candidates and the same people who were present in the initial vote, with the hope that this time around we get an outright winner,” said Clr Mguni.

City Press reports that the rapper and his bae got into a heated argument over cheating rumours in his Bryanston home. The argument was out of control to the point that they had to be escorted to the police station.

The policemen on the scene say they found the two going at it with Nelli eventually claiming she was tired of him and was moving out.

“When the police got to the house, they were still fighting and her bags were packed. She told the police that she was tired of his behaviour and was leaving [him]. She told them that she was going to book herself into a hotel and stay there before going [back] home,”

It is said they ended up at Randburg Police Station where the proceeded to try and lay criminal charges against each other. Nelli claims he man handled her and he says she slapped him.

The continues fighting at the police station but eventually decided against laying charges.

“They both threatened to lay charges against each other, but in the end, they didn’t. They even called their respective lawyers who became mediators before leaving with their respective clients, After a long discussion and the realisation that they are not opening cases against each other, the two were told to go. But emotions were still running high. Nelly, who had left the house with all her bags, got into her lawyer’s car and left,”

Nelson Chamisa: In solving our problems of imperialism, we have created dictators. Africa has a new challenge. In solving our old problems of colonialism and imperialism, we have created new ones of dictatorship. Why does Museveni and some of his cousins in Africa, southern Africa and Zimbabwe included think that they are bigger than the country?

Nelson Chamisa has lamented the way some African leaders are governing and how regional blocs like AU and SADC remain ineffective in dealing with what he called a self-made problem of dictatorship, The Standard reports. Speaking in an exclusive interview with the publication the youthful MDC Alliance Boss drew parallels between Uganda and Zimbabwe and said:

That is the problem in Uganda and in Zimbabwe among other countries in Africa where individuals want to appear bigger than the country. The capacity must be built, political will must be cultivated and their interests must be motivated so that they provide African solutions to African problems.

That is the challenge that is there. It is a cause for concern. Manipulating elections by these dictators is a big issue. It is a symptom of a bigger problem, unwillingness to allow the new to be born, the old must retire for the new to rise, but we have the generational conflict that is manifesting even in inter-party politics in Africa, they can’t allow the new to bloom and conspire against young bloomers.

This whole G40 concept is actually an illustration of discomfort around young people. Even contradictions that you have seen in liberation movements is refusal to pave the way for young people, who are treated as stakeholders instead of stockholders.

They make nations and institutions weak because they are weak. What kind of a country leaves a legacy of killing its own people and stealing from the people? Let us leverage on the wisdom of the founding fathers and deliver that idea to have modern economies, modern infrastructure, universal visa, one good Parliament to deal with African issues — that is the Africa we want.

The African Union slogan is ‘Silence the guns’ yet you see there are certain individuals who are loading the guns and are trigger-happy with the gun as if it’s a guitar.

Museveni must know a gun is not a guitar. You and your cohorts and brothers, a gun is not a guitar and do not spray bullets at unarmed civilians in the streets of Africa like you are spraying seeds at your farms.

The AU says let us silence the guns, but you have cowards firing at innocent unarmed civilians. That’s what cowards do. There is no normal country that deploys guns against its people like what we are seeing.

China plans to launch an unmanned spacecraft to the moon this week to bring back lunar rocks in the first attempt by any nation to retrieve samples from Earth’s natural satellite since the 1970s.

The Change-5 probe, named after the ancient Chinese goddess of the moon, will seek to collect material that can help scientists understand more about the moon’s origins and formation. The mission will test China’s ability to remotely acquire samples from space, ahead of more complex missions.

If successful, the mission will make China only the third country to have retrieved lunar samples, following the United States and the Soviet Union decades ago.

Since the Soviet Union crash-landed the Luna 2 on the moon in 1959, the first human-made object to reach another celestial body, a handful of other countries including Japan and India have launched moon missions.

In the Apollo programme, which first put men on the moon, the United States landed 12 astronauts over six flights from 1969 to 1972, bringing back 382 kg (842 pounds) of rocks and soil.

The Soviet Union deployed three successful robotic sample return missions in the 1970s. The last, the Luna 24, retrieved 170.1 grams (6 ounces) of samples in 1976 from Mare Crisium, or “Sea of Crises”.

Professor Jonathan Moyo lashes out at MDC Alliance. Exiled former cabinet minister Professor Jonathan Moyo has dismissed the opposition MDC Alliance (MDC-A) report on its investigations into the Bulawayo provincial women assembly chair Tendai Masotsha’s alleged involvement in the abduction of Tawanda Muchehiwa.

Masotsha was implicated in Muchehiwa’s abduction by suspected State security agents in Bulawayo on 30 July but a probe by the MDC-A exonerated her.

Posting on Twitter on Friday morning, the former G40 kingpin published what he called “facts” on Muchehiwa’s abduction. He wrote:
[Tendai] Masotsha brings flyers, sits with [Tawanda Muchehiwa] in a BMW.

CIO’s Muzembe abducts Tawanda from BMW, throws him into an Isuzu; Masotsha sees it all. Advent and Amandlenkosi [Mathuthu] arrested for Masotsha’s flyers and are put in an Altezza.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin brace helps Everton to beat Fulham 3 – 2. Richarlison made an immediate impact on his return from a three-match suspension by providing the cross for Calvert-Lewin to bundle in after just 42 seconds. Dominic Calvert-Lewin continued his excellent scoring form with two goals as Everton returned to winning ways in an absorbing encounter with Fulham.

In a dramatic game, Bobby Decordova-Reid equalised for the hosts with a clean right-foot finish before England forward Calvert-Lewin went top of the Premier League scoring charts with his 10th of the season from Lucas Digne’s cross.

France defender Digne provided another assist before half-time, this time for Abdoulaye Doucoure to head home unchallenged for Everton’s third – and his first since joining from Watford.

Fulham missed their third penalty of the season, awarded for Ben Godfrey’s foul on Ruben Loftus-Cheek, when Ivan Cavaleiro slipped, hit the ball against his wrong foot and sent it over the bar.

With Brazil forward Richarlison eager to make up for lost time in his first club game since 17 October and Digne providing a couple of quality assists, Everton dominated Fulham for long periods.

In addition, Calvert-Lewin continues to impress and now has 15 goals in 16 appearances for club and country this season.

“He is doing really well, honestly I didn’t expect him to have the consistency he has in this period,” said Ancelotti, who was asked about Calvert-Lewin’s chances of winning the Golden Boot.

“To win the Golden Boot, it would mean he is scoring lots of goals and good also for the club, but I don’t know. “The target is not this for him – the target is to score goals to help the team be at the top of the table.”

Ancelotti will be annoyed at his side’s falure to keep a first clean sheet in the league since the opening weekend, Tom Cairney’s pass splitting the defence for Decordova-Reid to score before Loftus-Cheek netted moments after Fulham’s latest penalty mishap.

Fulham’s spot-kick nightmare continues

After a poor start to life back in the Premier League, there have been signs that Fulham could be turning a corner following a hard-earned point against Sheffield United and victory over West Brom.

Against Everton, they were once again authors of their own misfortune.

They gave away possession for the visitors’ opening goal, failed to mark Doucoure who made it 3-1 and suffered their third straight failure from the spot.

In their previous game on 7 November, Lookman missed a Panenka-style penalty with the last kick of the game against West Ham.

With Aleksandar Mitrovic also having missed from the spot against Sheffield United on 18 October, Portuguese forward Cavaleiro took responsibility after Godfrey’s foul with Fulham trailing 3-1.

The former Wolves player stepped forward – and was penalised for double hitting the ball after slipping and kicking it against his non-kicking foot, sending his effort flying high over the bar.

“You couldn’t have written it,” said Fulham boss Scott Parker.

“Ivan is an exceptional penalty taker and last time I was in this situation with Ademola Lookman, I was angry and disappointed with the way we missed it, but today these things can happen.”

Although substitute Loftus-Cheek managed to pull a goal back, Fulham could not find an equaliser and now face daunting games at Leicester and Manchester City before hosting Liverpool on 12 December.

‘Lack of intensity’ – what they said

Fulham boss Scott Parker: “There needs to be an intensity about us. A reaction in the second half should not have to come from a rollicking at half-time.

“What I cannot accept from my team is that at times, certainly in the first half, we were second best to the 50-50 challenges.”

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti: “Every game will be a test but our target is to fight for the top of the table, not the bottom.

“We started the season really well and had a difficult period, now the difficult period is gone and we need to have consistency in our results.”

Three points but defensive worries continue – the stats

• Everton have conceded two or more goals in six consecutive Premier League games for the first time since October 2008.
• Fulham’s Bobby Decordova-Reid scored in back-to-back home league games for the first time since April 2018 for Bristol City.
• Only Chelsea (12) have scored more goals in the first minute of Premier League games than Everton (10 – level with Tottenham).
• Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s opener after just 42 seconds was the earliest Premier League goal Everton have scored since April 2017 against Leicester (30 seconds).
• Since making his Premier League debut in August 2018, only Trent Alexander-Arnold (26) and Andrew Robertson (25) have provided more assists in the competition among defenders than Everton’s Lucas Digne (15).

What’s next?

Fulham have more than a week to prepare for their next Premier League game at Leicester on 30 November (17:30 GMT), while Everton host Leeds at Goodison Park on Saturday (17:30).

The Blades, who have lost eight of their nine fixtures this term, stay bottom of the table while West Ham climb to eighth. Sebastien Haller’s superb strike consigned winless Sheffield United to another Premier League defeat as West Ham moved into the top half of the table.

Chris Wilder’s side had started brightly and created several early openings but the Hammers took control as the hosts faded as an attacking force. Vladimir Coufal and Tomas Soucek both had opportunities to score before Haller’s powerful 20-yard drive found the top-right corner.

Declan Rice then headed against the crossbar as the visitors sought to press home their advantage. Sheffield United did rally, with Oli McBurnie seeing a left-foot effort cannon back off the crossbar, but they are still yet to score in open play at Bramall Lane this season.

“We have earned the right to be here and have to do some things pretty quickly to stay in it and protect our status as a Premier League club,” said Wilder, whose side were ninth at the same stage last term.

“There’s a long way to go. Without being disrespectful to some of the places this football club has had to go, it is no good taking a backwards step and feeling sorry for yourself.” With a solitary point on the board, Sheffield United began this contest with the joint-lowest points tally at this stage of a Premier League season and without a victory since 11 July.

However, while aspects of this performance will have pleased manager Wilder, they again came down on the wrong side of a tight contest.

John Egan’s searching pass provided George Baldock with a third-minute chance to open the scoring but the full-back was unable to beat Hammers keeper Lukasz Fabianski at the near post.

Fabianski then parried McBurnie’s rising half volley to safety during a forceful start by the Blades. But after failing to unlock the door their two main failings – a lack of goals and an inability keep a clean sheet – proved the difference again.

While there were signs that they are beginning to cope without the injured and influential Jack O’Connell in their defence – restricting the Hammers to just three shots on target – they were punished for a momentary lapse of concentration that allowed Haller the freedom to get his shot away under little pressure.

West Ham building momentumAfter coming through a tricky opening spell in the game, Hammers boss David Moyes will have been pleased by the way his improving side grew in stature and confidence.

West Ham have now lost just once in their past seven outings and always looked capable of scoring despite the continued absence of Michail Antonio with a hamstring injury.

Galvanised by England midfielder Rice and his Czech counterpart Soucek, the visitors established control and looked a threat down both flanks.

Both were key in snuffing out Sheffield United’s early spark and while it is not their forte, both will also think they could have capped fine performances with a goal.

While Rice was unfortunate after expertly meeting Aaron Cresswell’s cross from the left, Soucek somehow missed the target from five yards after a lovely cushioned header into his path from Haller.

Wing-back Arthur Masuaku’s driving runs were another feature of their play and his charge inside began the move that saw Coufal force a fine save from Blades goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Entertaining Leeds forget their finishing boots as they draw nill-all against Arsenal. Arsenal forward Nicolas Pepe was sent off for a headbutt as Leeds’ wasteful finishing cost them a Premier League victory.

Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds squandered a host of chances, both before and after Pepe was dismissed after video assistant referee consultation for sticking his head into Ezgjan Alioski’s face.

Substitute Rodrigo, Patrick Bamford and Raphinha – deep into injury time on his first Premier League start – struck the woodwork. The Gunners were poor – yet again – and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s 60th-minute effort was their first of two shots on target.

They have scored one Premier League goal, an Aubameyang penalty against Manchester United, in five games since 4 October. Both sides came into the game out of form – with three defeats in their previous four league games.

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa will be happy with his side’s performance, bar the finishing, with opposite number Mikel Arteta relieved to pick up a point. Arsenal remain in the bottom half of the table, moving up to 11th, two points above Leeds in 14th.

The Ivorian, who has rarely justified his £75m fee, had a running battle with Alioski and eventually lost his patience with a ‘football headbutt’. Alioski threw himself to the ground and Pepe was sent off for the first time in his career.

Spirit Medium (N’anga) aid killed with machetes. The two suspects claimed to have come from Zenga village in Mozambique. Mashonaland Central province acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Fedelis Dhewu confirmed the case.

A Rushinga spirit medium aid Kingston Kazasi 81 was allegedly murdered by two unknown Mozambicans in Rushinga last week. “I can confirm a murder case in Rushinga where an 81-year-old man was killed with machetes,” Dhewu said.

Allegations are that the two suspects dressed in black arrived at Kazasi’s homestead pretending to pay for services they got from the late spirit medium Everisto Meki popular Hokoto.

The unsuspecting Kazasi who was sleeping in his room.was called by his wife Esteri Kazasi(62). Upon getting out they requested for cigarettes from the now deceased and were given. They further asked for a room to sleep claiming that their motorbike had a tyre puncture.

They were given a room to sleep but instead, they turned violent and pulled machetes which they used to assault Kazasi.

He died on the spot and the duo fled in the dark. Police are investigating the matter and appealed to anyone with information to the effect of the murder to report at any police station.

Report: Top Zanu-PF officials boycott ED visit. FIVE Zanu-PF Mashonaland East provincial co-ordinating committee (PCC) members are in trouble after boycotting President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s visit to Marondera last week, as factionalism in the party deepens.

Mnangagwa addressed the Mashonaland East PCC members at Marondera High School, but five of the six Chikomba district members namely Moses Mataruse, Clifford Ngirazi, Phillip Songore, Bester Jokonya and Mike Mamire did not attend the meeting.

Other party members have threatened to pass a vote of no confidence against them, alleging that they were aligned to the G40 faction.

Insiders told NewsDay that the provincial members did not attend Mnangagwa’s address, but were spotted on that very day campaigning for their preferred candidates in the pending district co-ordinating committee elections.

“They have let down other party members by failing to attend such an important meeting. They are leaders of the party at district level so they should have heard what the President was saying and give feedback to the party supporters in the grassroots. They should come out in the open and state the side they are aligned to so that we select new leaders if need be,” a source who preferred anonymity said.

But the PCC members dismissed the allegations saying they had other commitments which stopped them from attending the President’s address. “I did not attend the meeting because I was attending a family funeral,” Ngirazi said.

“These are works of aggrieved party members who lost their posts in the previous elections. So they want to take their revenge on us. Our loyalty to President Mnangagwa is still as strong as ever,” Mataruse added.

Mataruse also said some party members were blackmailing them by aligning them to the G40 cabal. He said: “I did not attend the meeting because I had a terrible headache. Surely, people cannot make a fuss about me being absent on that one party meeting. These are baseless accusations aimed at tarnishing our image.”

Party provincial chairperson Joel Biggie Matiza said the report was yet to be brought for his attention. “I was busy attending to the President’s visit on that day and so I didn’t really check whether all those who were supposed to attend did so,” Matiza said.

The traditional healer continues to do good things and shows off his humanitarian side as he visited fitness bunny Maona’s father Ishmael Amuli with some groceries and comfort him in his time of mourning. Confession: Thanks Makore pledged to pay Tapiwa’s killers $1500. During the bail hearing the Investigating Officer in the case told the court that Thanks hired the services of his brother Tapiwa and the local herdsmen Tafadzwa Shamba and promised to pay them $1500 for the heinous crime:

Tapiwa Makore’s uncle Thanks Makore was reportedly supposed to pay 7-year-old Tapiwa ‘s killers $1500 to kill the boy for suspected ritual purposes, Bustop TV reports. The matter came to light when Thanks was seeking bail at the High court after he was arrested for allegedly being the mastermind behind the gruesome murder.

Thanks Makore commissioned his twin brother Tapiwa Makore Snr and Tafadzwa Shamba to commit the heinous crime.The accused is the one who employed or gave the contract to these two accused or his accomplices. He promised to pay them US$1 500 to his accomplices who killed Tapiwa Makore.

After the commission of the offence, the accused is said to have received the head and the arms of the deceased. The state in opposing bail said if Thanks is released on bail he will abscond trial because his charges are serious and if convicted they carry a capital punishment:

The applicant is likely to interfere with witnesses if granted bail. So far, we are done at Damofalls where his first wife resides. We are left with Warren Park where his second wife resides.

We are still doing investigations and we are yet to finish searching. One of the main witnesses is related to the applicant. In fact, he is the son of the applicant’s young brother so the accused might interfere with the witness. American Embassy employs the applicant, so if granted bail he might seek transfer and relocate from Zimbabwe and abscond.

Considering the nature of the offence Thanks Makore is facing that carries a capital sentence upon conviction, he would abscond if granted bail. Another issue the IO raised was that Thanks Makore had a target on his back and if released his safety would be compromised.

Another issue is when we were carrying out searches at his Damofalls residence, there was a mob who were looking for the applicant. In fact, they were throwing stones at his house so if granted bail he might be attacked by the mob.

Zim Universities Intent to go on a strike. The Zimbabwe Universities Union members met on the 18th of this month and resolved to embark on industrial action over the “unattainable” situation in state institutions of higher learning. Below is their notice of intent to strike.

The Zimbabwe Universities Union members met today on 18 November 2020 in the Minister’s boardroom (Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education Innovation, Science and Technology Development) at 1100hours and resolved that the situation in our universities is no longer attainable. The salaries buying power has been eroded and as a result, universities staff are poorly remunerated.

The Union has therefore resolved to exercise the right of workers as enshrined in the labour Act 28:01, Section 104.

The employees are aggrieved as follows:

The State universities salaries have lost value and have been eroded whilst services, utilities and basic commodities are quoted in United State Dollars or foreign currency.
The employer has neglected the agreement to meet the regional parity level salaries for state universities.
The state universities employees have been denied to exercise their right to negotiate as enshrined in the Labour Act.
The state universities employees hereby demand that;

The purchasing power of State universities employees’ salaries be retained to the level of July 2018 salaries.
The employees demand that the employer makes urgent steps to attain the regional level salary scales as per the agreement of 2010.
The employer must urgently redress the salary disparity created in October 2019 (NDI/01).
The above are employees’ demands. We are therefore giving the notice to engage in a collective job action. The notice to strike is with effect from 23 November 2020.

Kazembe Kazembe in hot soup with War Vets amid reports of his affiliation with G40. This was revealed in a letter that was leaked that was seen by the publication which reads in part: We understand there is an ill constituted and unsanctioned team of provincial members of our party which went to Zanu PF HQ and misrepresented themselves that they had been sent by the province to clean out G40 elements from our province.

According to the Daily News tensions are running high in the ruling party Zanu PF following their just ended DCC polls. War Veterans in Mashonaland Central where Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe is the chairman are reportedly requesting that he be investigated for his alleged affiliation to the now-defunct G40.

“The first secretary and president had met provincial chairpersons on the 12th October 2020 and advised them to ensure clean members participate in the DCC elections.

A well-constituted team was then supposed to carry out the directive from the president. However, we understand that about four members aligned to one of the factions in the province decided to carry out the mission themselves for their own benefit,

Consequently, genuine and deserving party members were corruptly and unfairly removed from the list, leaving well-known G40 members to participate.

These have remained link persons of the exiled G40 kingpins, yet they are left to participate in the DCC elections against the directive from the president. In the interest of the party, we request that further investigations be carried out and disciplinary action be taken in line with our constitution.

May I also remind you of our complaint against the unfair and uncalled for removal of war veterans from the provincial leadership chat group, whose audio evidence was given to you by the undersigned? “We wait to be apprised of the outcome of the investigations and follow up action.

This comes after several reports that other party bigwigs are also under fire from provinces, for example, Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi whose post is reportedly being challenged by Mary Mliswa Chikoka and in some provinces like Masvingo and Harare where party bigwigs are fighting for seats at the top.

Last month by-elections in Kwekwe turned bloody as 2 factions fought over who should be the party’s candidate to fill the vacant parliamentary seat left by NFP member Blackman Matambanadzo.
