CAG tours bus sued US$407K for the death of a Harare man. The widow, Wona Macingwane wants the damages for her upkeep as well as that of her daughter Ayana Aneni Macingwane Chidzanira and father-in-law Webster Chidzanira.

A Harare woman has dragged CAG Tours bus company to court demanding US$407 000 for the death of her husband who died last year due to the bus driver’s negligence. The driver, Mamwena Tinashe Marombo, was convicted of culpable homicide and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment.

Court papers show that Marombo failed to give way at the intersection of Sam Nujoma and Josiah Chinamano on October 8, 2020, and rammed into a Toyota Hilux single cab vehicle driven by Macingwane’s husband, Tadiwanashe Chidzanira, killing him instantly.

Macingwane says she was forced to seek legal recourse after the bus company refused to entertain her compensation request. Her summons filed at the High Court read: The premature termination of her husband’s life has necessitated a claim for basic necessities such as food, transport, and shelter until she remarries.

She endured trauma, pain, and suffering for the loss of life of her husband through Marombo’s negligence. She was not working as she was to complete her degree and solely relied on the deceased to take care of her and pay her tuition.

Macingwane is claiming:

  • US$50, 000 for the loss of her husband and family breadwinner
  • US$41, 200 for loss of love and emotional support.
  • US$218,000 for her daughter for emotional pain for the loss of a father and guardian.
  • US$168,000 for the daughter’s upkeep, with a US$1,000 monthly payout until she can support herself.
  • US$87,000 in damages for losing his son who was responsible for his upkeep and medical expenses.
  • US$2,095 for the casket,
  • US$800 for the purchase of a grave at Glen Forest,
  • US$9,600 in air travel for 6 families, among others costs.
  • US$14,000 for damage to her husband’s vehicle and
  • US1,000 for his cellphones that were crushed in the accident.

Macingwane’s husband was employed at Trade Kings Zimbabwe (Private) Limited as a quality controller. The matter is yet to be heard.

Update: Ginimbi’s friend Boss Tumelo survives car accident. One of Harare’s big spender Boss Tumelo, friends with late Genius Ginimbi Kadungure, was involved in an accident and luckily escaped with minor injuries.

The accident happened at Pamastones in Highfield Harare at the traffic lights at around 2 am. Tumelo’s girlfriend took to social media to write:

Firstly, I just want to thank God that you’re alive. Your life is worth more than 100k. A lot of people might see the champagne popping and the good times, but I know how hard you work.

You’re dedicated to what you do and your work ethic remains undefeated and unmatched. I’ve seen you stressed and having the worst of days, but you still manage to put a smile on your face after some Henny, about 18 hours of sleep, and absolutely no phone calls being accepted lol.

Even when deals don’t go your way, you’ll be like ‘it’s business baby, you have to learn how to move on quickly.’

We don’t always get along, but we have a bond that only a few people will ever understand. You’re not a perfect person, and I understand that more and more by the day, but you try your best.Boss Tumelo

And even in your darkest hour, I just want you to know that I’m always going to be here for you. Keep your head up king, always. And just know that as long as you’re above ground, you live to fight yet another day praying for you always.

Baboons wreck havoc and raid supermarkets in Victoria Falls

Baboons wreck havoc and raid supermarkets in Victoria Falls. Baboons are terrorising businesses, residents and villagers in Victoria Falls by breaking into shops to steal foodstuffs and ambushing people and snatching food from them as well as “cleaning” maize fields.

A few days ago a baboon caused a commotion when it entered OK Supermarket and stole a packet of chips. Despite frantic efforts to scare it away, the baboon tried to go in through the front door and later returned to enter through the roof and jumped into the shop through the ceiling.

The animals’ belligerent attitude has been attributed to hunger as they cannot find fast-food leftovers in rubbish bins. Trash cans are always empty because of a lack of tourism activity and restricted operation of restaurants due to the coronavirus lockdown.

Speaking to Chronicle on condition of anonymity, some residents said the baboons had turned Victoria Falls into a “war zone”. An employee at one of the shops said: We clean baboon poo in the office almost every day. I think they had mastered the lockdown business hours and would enter the shops once people knock off.

Lately, they have been breaking into shops even in the presence of people. They broke two window panes into our shop and have been sneaking inside and mess around before entering the ceiling. Sometimes we see them peeping inside wanting to come in.

The Chronicle reported a source saying it is now risky to move around carrying food as the baboons can differentiate plastic bags from food outlets from those from other shops. Said the source:Baboon

Some now camp in front of Chicken Inn or OK shops and snatch whatever they see people carrying. One baboon recently caused a stir when it entered the OK shop, went on top of a butchery fridge before jumping onto a nearby shelf where it snatched a packet of chips and fled. On another day they charged at a man who had just bought two pies and he threw them down as he fled.

The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) has been urged to deal with the baboon menace as there are fears that the primates will disrupt tourism in the city. Chief Whange said some villagers in Kasibo are staring hunger after their maize crops were eaten by marauding baboons.

Gweru mourners fined $500 each. The mourners were part of a group that was teargassed by police after dumping Tatenda Pasinyore’s corpse near the Monomutapa Police Station entrance where he was detained before being taken to a local hospital where he died.

76 Gweru’s Mtapa suburb residents who were arrested on Saturday during the funeral of an alleged victim of police brutality have been released after the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum offered them legal assistance.  The Forum said in a statement:

The Forum offered legal assistance to the 76 mourners arrested during the burial of Tatenda Pasinyore who died after an alleged assault by police on 28 February. The mourners were charged with breaking COVID-19 lockdown regulations and participating in an illegal gathering.

The Forum lawyers, on instruction from the arrested, engaged police officials and the charge was lessened to violating COVID-19 lockdown regulation. All the mourners were released after paying a $500 fine each. Pasinyore passed away at Gweru’s Mutapa Police Station after he was brutally assaulted by police who had arrested him for violating COVID-19 regulations.Tatenda Kasinyore

The family is receiving legal assistance from the Forum and is awaiting the results of a post mortem carried out on 4 March 2021. Police arrested the mourners who had gathered outside the police station which is located along Gweru-Matobo Road.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said police were forced to intervene as residents were violating COVID-19 lockdown regulations. He said: According to the COVID-19 regulations, funeral gatherings are limited to 30 people.

Tatenda Kasinyore Nyale

So we discovered that the people who had gathered for the funeral were exceeding 30 and police had to disperse people. On the other hand, we realised that there were some civil organisations and purported human rights activists who had taken advantage of the situation so, police had to maintain law and order.

Prophet Bushiri reveals how he escaped South Africa

Prophet Bushiri reveals how he escaped South Africa. Fugitive Prophet Shepherd Bushiri has in an exclusive interview last night revealed how he left South Africa where he faces money laundering, fraud and corruption charges.

The alleged escape of Major 1, as he is fondly called by his follower, nearly caused a diplomatic row between Malawi and South Africa. Several South African politicians and media houses alleged that the controversial prophet was smuggled using President Lazarus Chakwera’s presidential jet.

Bushiri’s escape was discovered just a few hours before Chakwera’s departure for Malawi in his maiden official trip as President to the rainbow nation. The mysterious escape resulted in the Malawian president being detained for several hours before being cleared to take off by South African intelligence officials.

But in an interview with one of the local TV stations, Bushiri revealed how he left South Africa by playing ignorance of his mode of transport. “To this day, I don’t know how I left South Africa. There was fire and I had to leave but I do not know how I left. It was only God who rescues from danger His people in His own ways”, said Bushiri.

Bushiri is currently in his home country Malawi where he is fighting extradition to South Africa. He revealed his arrival just a few hours after Chakwera’s plane touched down at the Kamuzu International Airport around 1am on Friday.

It has been reported in an alleged comprehensive work of investigation by the Sunday Independent that Bushiri, together with his alleged partner-in-crime wife, Mary Bushiri, applied cosmetics like spy agents in the cold-war era to escape detection when they left South Africa.

The paper, while fingering out Chakwera’s direct involvement claimed in its report that the Malawi government issued the two fugitives new diplomatic passports before being smuggled in President Chakwera’s chartered presidential jet. In its report, the paper alleged that President Chakwera was aware of the plot and gave it a green light.

Covid-19 leaves Zimbos immigrants stranded in SA

Covid-19 leaves Zimbos immigrants stranded in SA. Though the special R350-a-month Covid-19 relief grant was extended to immigrants last year, many are battling to access the grant.

Zimbabwean relief organisations are struggling to keep up with the demand for food help from immigrants in South Africa who have been floored by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Zimbabwe Community SA spokesperson Bongani Mazwi Mkwananzi said his organisation had helped about 2 000 families with food since November last year, mostly in Gauteng but also in Cape Town. There are 4 700 people on the list.

“We are appealing to business people and donors to assist with the food distribution programme since people are still struggling and have not returned to work,” Mkwananzi said.

He said since many immigrants earned a living through informal trading, domestic work, and casual jobs in restaurants, and had been hard hit by the pandemic.

Initially, there was no assistance for immigrants from the South African government, but Pretoria high court Judge Selby Baqwa ruled on June 19 that the R350 Special Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress must be extended to asylum seekers and special permit holders from Lesotho, Angola and Zimbabwe.

Sassa, with the help of the Department of Home Affairs and the Scalabrini Centre, has created a separate web application channel for asylum seekers and permit holders which caters for their special identification numbers.

The grant, which was due to expire at the end of January, has been extended for three more months. But Mkwananzi said an informal survey of members of Zim Community SA revealed that many battles to access the Covid-19 grant.

“They wish they would receive the grant and buy their families some food,” he said. “Most of the people who applied for the grant were declined and some said they were never responded to.” Sassa spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi told GroundUp at the end of February that 4 110 applications had been received from asylum seekers and special permit holders to date.

These included 1 171 applications from asylum seekers, 235 applications from Angolan special permit holders, 1 742 applications from Lesotho special permit holders and 962 from Zimbabwean special permit holders.

On average, 800 asylum seekers and special permit holders a month were paid out. In total, more than nine million applications for the grant had been received in February, Letsatsi said. About three million applications a month on average were declined, he said.

On March 2 in an email, deputy ambassador Martin Makururu Zimbabwe deputy ambassador to South Africa told GroundUp that about 8 000 Zimbabweans had asked for food help since the beginning of the lockdown.

The Johannesburg consulate had submitted a list of 5 000 names for food parcels assistance to the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) he said.

“Zimbabwean nationals in South Africa in the informal sector and hospitality industry were hardest hit,” Mukururu said. “The situation was tough during the initial lockdown. Those nationals who found the going tough returned home.”

When lockdown levels were lowered, almost half of those who had “weathered the storm” had not been rehired, said Makururu. Some had asked for help with repatriation. But with further easing of the restrictions some had changed their minds and stayed, he said.

“It would seem Zimbabweans in South Africa have various survival strategies to cope with the situation, such as relying on savings and looking for employment outside the hospitality and tourism industry.”

Liquor traders appeal for rent relief

Liquor traders appeal for rent relief. President Emmerson Mnangagwa recently allowed bottle stores to resume operations, but bars and nightclubs remain closed. According to the Liquor Traders Association, Bulawayo has 1 015 outlets registered with the Liquor Licensing Board.

Bulawayo liquor traders have appealed to the government to write off their rental debts for the seven months they were under national COVID-19 lockdown. “These outlets employ on average 15 225 individuals who are facing an uncertain future,” Liquor Traders Association vice-chairperson Mbuso Siso said.

“We want to appeal to the government that they must write off rental arrears for the past seven months because we were closed down. “They must be scrapped off since the government is not able to give us any rescue packages for all businesses that were completely shut down for seven months with no revenue collection by those businesses.

“After the seven months, we were then allowed to operate on condition that we all closed at 4:30pm which has been difficult for us to raise rent for the seven months,” he said. “Bars operated in the afternoon at the time, and we were being required to close at 4:30 pm which made it difficult to make money,” Siso said.

“We are being harassed by landlords and they have threatened to kick us out. Some are using the law to evict us. COVID-19 was not a creation of bars, but it is a world pandemic and every country in this world is facing it.”

Siso appealed to the authorities to allow bars to operate, adding that the government had no capacity to rescue businesses that were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “How does the government help us or rescue us from this problem that we are facing?

Former Warriors captain Benjani Mwaruwari junior released by Portsmouth

Former Warriors captain Benjani Mwaruwari junior released by Portsmouth. Benjani Junior had been in his second spell with the Blues and most recently associated with the under-16s. The son of Fratton hero Benjani Mwaruwari has been released by Portsmouth after a stint with the League One side’s academy.

However, it is understood the Pompey academy elected not to offer the striker a scholarship, informing him three weeks ago. Benjani Jnr has since been training at Yeovil in a bid to win a deal with the National League outfit.

Nonetheless, for the romantics among the Fratton faithful, it’s disappointing not to see another Benjani make a name for himself with the Blues. His dad was signed by Harry Redknapp from French side Auxerre in January 2006 for a then club record fee of £4.1m.

Benjani senior went on to become a key presence in the Great Escape, ultimately netting in the Blues’ 2-1 triumph at Wigan which confirmed their Premier League survival in April 2006.

The Zimbabwe international was sold to Manchester City in February 2008, following two hattricks in the 2007-08 season. However, the striker did return for an ill-fated second spell in the 2011-12 campaign when signed by Steve Cotterill on a free transfer.

In total, he made 94 appearances and scored 20 times and can always anticipate an excellent reception upon visits to Fratton Park.

Benjani Snr also spent time coaching Pompey’s under-16s this season. The 42-year-old assisted Shaun North in coaching sessions on a twice-weekly basis to meet Uefa A licence requirements. Benjani is based in Ringwood, although he did move to South Africa for two years, with Benjani Jnr taken out of Pompey’s Academy.

Upon their return to England, the youngster rejoined the Blues’ youth setup, with this his third season back.

Sir Wicknel addresses his family drama indirectly: Video. In a series of posts, Moe explained how Wicknell’s wife Sonja accused her mother-in-law of bewitching her grandson. Sir Wicknell’s sister Moe is bitter and blasted her muroora Sonja with the Instagram name King Yaaya for calling their late mom a witch who bewitched their son John.

The businessman did not utter a single word in all this drama, he kept quiet and has not said anything. However things have taken a slight change as he has replied in a more mature but bragish way. Check the video below

in the Slides inserted in the video, it’s believed that John is not yet talking and Sonja claims it was Sir Wicknell’s mom who bewitched her grandson. The Chivhayo Saga.  Wicknell Chivayo’s sister, Moe, has come out guns blazing and exposed her brothers wife on social media as it seems like their relationship has reached another level of hate!

Moe, who also said Sonja is an ex-Hooker, narrated how her mom walked barefoot going to see Wicknell, who was in jail for 2 years. But all the noise did not make sir Wicknell react at that same moment. He however has replied in an indirect way as he posted himself in a car listening to Freeman and ExQ’s Nzenza song. Andy Muridzo succeeds Ngwendeza. Musician Andy Muridzo says he is relishing his new role as Fashion Police brand ambassador. The 28-year-old succeeded the late Soul Jah Love, the face of the clothing brand that he served with distinction.

Chibaba, as the chanter was fondly known, succumbed to diabetes on February 16 and was declared a liberation hero. After his death, Fashion Police boss Anne Humbura roped in Andy Muridzo, who has been supportive over the years.

In an interview with H-Metro, Humbira said the Jeetaz Band leader was indeed the best candidate for the job. “I have been working with Soul Jah Love over the years as our brand ambassador, but he is no more. “Chibaba served my firm with distinction and having him as my brand ambassador was a blessing.

“However, I have decided to rope in Andy Muridzo as Chibaba’s successor and I am glad that he agreed to work with us,” said Humbira. Asked why they settled for Andy Muridzo, she explained: “Andy Muridzo is a real influencer and those that have been working with him will agree with me that he is indeed a professional.

“Besides being a family friend, Andy has been supportive to my brand by promoting my cloth[1]ing brand. “He constantly buys my clothes and I decided to reward him with an ambassadorial role.” In another interview, Andy Muridzo confirmed the new role.

“Yes, it’s true that I have succeeded Chibaba as Fashion Police brand ambassador. “I really cherish the new role that I was given, but the main challenge is to match or surpass the stands set by the late Chibaba in marketing the Fashion Police brand.

“At first I was not comfortable taking the role, but I was convinced by my handlers to assume the task. “I have realised that I am now an influencer and a role model to others hence the decision to support a sister who has a vision.

“As you know, Anne Humbira is a fashionista who has been working closely with top artistes and her firm has helped us in our video shoots and other special events. “I will be forever grateful to her as she has indeed been assisting us as artistes. “As you know elegance and style are required in our job, but the majority of us can’t afford it,” he said.

Top artistes, comprising Peter Moyo, Baba Harare, Maselo and Carlos Green, have been working with Fashion Police boss over the years, with the majority of Zimdancehall chanters having endorsed the brand. Meanwhile, Andy Muridzo will record a special song dedicated to Fashion Police today.

Govt to supervise boarding schools when they open up

Govt to supervise boarding schools when they open up. Schools are set to open on Monday, March 15 for examination classes and a week later non-examination classes will also open.

No pupil succumbed to Covid-19 when schools opened last year and the Government will be conducting intense supervision of boarding schools to ensure that the spike that was recorded in the previous term is prevented. This comes as the Government has also released its 2021 school calendar.

The calendar will see the first term ending on June 4, the second term beginning on June 28, ending on September 10 while the third term will start on October 4 ending on December 17. The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is in the process of assessing schools’ preparedness ahead of the start of 2021 term one.

Primary and Secondary Education Ministry director of communication and advocacy Mr Taungana Ndoro yesterday said the Government was satisfied with measures being implemented to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in schools. Last year, the ministry adopted standard operating procedures, given the new normal caused by Covid-19.

Learners were banned from hugging and went on break at different intervals to ensure social distancing, among other measures. Mr Ndoro said the Government will be closely monitoring boarding schools to ensure that pupils are protected from Covid-19.

“As the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, we are pleased that no single learner succumbed to Covid-19 in the previous year. “The ministry has always taken the issues of Covid-19 seriously. However, the surge in Covid-19 cases in schools towards the end of last year was a clarion call for us to double our efforts in combating the coronavirus in our schools.

More supervision, particularly of boarding schools, will be carried out to ensure that they comply with the World Health Organization and national guidelines on Covid-19,” said Mr Ndoro.

He said schools will be open at difficult times as they face budgetary challenges. “Indeed, the majority of our schools experienced challenges because of non-collection of revenue during the coronavirus-induced lockdown, so it was a challenge to pay for day-to-day expenses,” he said.

Mr Ndoro said the ministry was waiting for the Treasury to release funds to support some of the learning institutions. “The ministry got support from Treasury last year. The money allocated was disbursed to schools to procure PPE and other Covid-19 abatement equipment.

“In 2021, the ministry is set to get funding for borehole drilling and water reticulation,” said Mr Ndoro. He said the ministry was compiling statistics on the number of pupils who dropped out of school for various reasons last year. The Chronicle.

Drama as couple divorce over secret marriage

Drama as couple divorce over secret marriage. Precious Muvhuti nee Chikoto claims her hubby Learmore Muvhuti deceived her into marrying him on October 28th, 2017 without telling her he was married under customary law. A Harare woman is divorcing her husband for keeping his customary marriage to another woman a secret.

According to the papers at the High Court, after the revelation, the two only enjoyed conjugal rights during their honeymoon phase before Precious packed her bags. She says they have been on a de facto separation since 2017. “Precious was deceived into the marriage in that Learn more did not disclose prior that he was customarily married and such marriage was in subsistence.

“The material non-disclosure goes to the root of the marriage contract and Precious considers the marriage to have irretrievably broken down. “Precious and Learnmore as a result never lived together as husband and wife and have been on separation since then,” reads Precious’ declaration.

Precious says she is not in a position to claim any spousal maintenance or issues to do with custody or access, calling them non-existent since the couple did not share a house or acquire any matrimonial property. “Precious avers that the parties did not acquire any matrimonial property during the subsistence of the marriage and hence there is no property to be shared,” she said.

She wants the court to grant her a decree of divorce, be able to move on and remarry. “The parties have not enjoyed conjugal rights since a few days after the marriage and hence a cumulative excess period of three years… “Despite counselling, no positive change has been realized and parties are on a de facto separation,” she said. Learn more is yet to respond.

Chelsea continues with their fine run as they beat Everton 2 – 0

Chelsea continues with their fine run as they beat Everton 2 – 0. The hosts took the lead when Kai Havertz’s shot took a big deflection off Toffees defender Ben Godfrey. Chelsea scored a goal in each half to see off top-four rivals Everton and maintain Thomas Tuchel’s unbeaten start as Blues boss.

England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made a fine save to deny Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso and Havertz thought he had scored but had handled the ball before finishing.

However, the hosts doubled their lead through a Jorginho penalty after Pickford brought down the impressive Havertz.

With 10 league games of the season left, Chelsea remains fourth and in the last Champions League qualifying spot, only three points behind third-placed Leicester and four adrift of Manchester United in second.

Crucially, this victory takes the Blues four points clear of Everton in fifth and Carlo Ancelotti’s side – who have a game in hand over Chelsea – will drop to sixth if West Ham avoid defeat against Leeds in Monday’s late game. Chelsea have not been beaten since a 2-0 loss at Leicester in Frank Lampard’s penultimate game as manager on 19 January, with Tuchel yet to suffer defeat in 11 matches in charge.

Chelsea revival continues with routine win
Chelsea have played in the Champions League in 15 of the past 17 campaigns but were ninth in the Premier League, and five points off the top four, when they sacked Lampard in January.

Tuchel has transformed their fortunes. This victory means they have won six and drawn three of his nine league games in charge, as well as winning games in the FA Cup and Champions League.

The German, who guided Paris St-Germain to the Champions League final in 2019-20, made five changes from the side that won 1-0 at Liverpool on Thursday and saw his team dominate possession.

Jorginho twice volleyed wide from outside the area before they went ahead on 31 minutes. Alonso fired in a low cross from the left and Havertz flicked the ball on, but it took a big deflection off Godfrey to leave Pickford with no chance.

Havertz thought he had scored only his second Premier League goal since a £71m summer move from Bayer Leverkusen when he collected Callum Hudson-Odoi’s chipped pass and fired past Pickford early in the second half.

However, the goal was ruled out as referee David Coote judged the German had handled the ball, with video assistant referee Michael Oliver confirming the on-field decision. But it became 2-0 soon after when Jorginho scored his seventh goal of the season with a calmly taken penalty as Chelsea completed a routine win.
