Michael Mahendere overjoyed and humbled with a global award. Gospel musician Minister Michael Mahendere scooped the Global Artiste of The Year award for his song titled “Revival Song”. Speaking to the Herald Arts, the “Ndinobuda Pakaoma” hit-maker said he was humbled by the gesture and thanked the global community for appreciating his music.

Mahendere, who is on top of his game at the moment, last week bagged an international award at the Global Music Awards Africa that were held in Accra, Ghana.

“I am grateful for the recognition that I have been receiving on various local and global platforms with the latest being from Ghana. I believe this award is a sign that shows how our Zimbabwean music is making an impact on the global platform.

“I am amazed at how my music is getting serious airplay in West Africa and other parts of the region and this is just fulfilling my calling of ministering to people of different races.”

Mahendere recently released a video for his collaboration track “My Time Has Come” with one of Nigeria’s finest musician Psalmist Jimmy D, which is trending on YouTube and other music platforms.

“We finally released the much-awaited video which we shot in Cape Town, South Africa, and so far it has received an overwhelming response. It’s a song for the season meant for those who are ready to act and fulfil their God-given purpose.”

Mahendere said in the kingdom of God, one had a choice to wait for things to happen or make things happen, and children of God have the power to call seasons they want to experience into being.

He said fans should look forward to a new single which features South African artistes and to the release of the album “Getting Personal With God 4”, whose exact dates will be announced in due course.

The musician also received an award for Best Contemporary Gospel at the recently held Zimbabwe Music Awards (ZIMA). Mahendere was also listed among the Institute of Corporate Directors Zimbabwe (ICDZ) Top 40 Most Influential Leaders in Zimbabwe for 2020.

He has won other awards in South Africa and Kenya, and has toured many countries with his band, Direct Worship.

Report: 13 prisoners test positive to Covid-19. Recommending that all prisoners and prison staff take up the vaccinations as the national vaccination programme is rolled out to prisons very soon, Snr Asst Comm Gaka said ZPCS was worried about a surge in new cases in prisons, saying there was need to decongest prisons to make it easier to isolate those who were sick.

At least 13 prisoners at Chinhoyi Prison have tested positive to Covid-19, but have since been quarantined, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) health services director Senior Assistant Commissioner Evidence Gaka said yesterday after receiving his second jab in Harare.

“I strongly recommend members of the ZPCS and inmates to consider taking up the vaccine because new infections are still witnessed in our prisons,” he said. “We are having 13 inmates from Chinhoyi Prison who have tested positive since last week.

“We are urging everyone to take caution and follow the prescribed WHO guidelines. We, in the same vein, encourage everyone to be vaccinated. Nobody is being spared by this pandemic, so no one is safe. Vaccination is the way to go.”

ZPCS will soon roll out a vaccination programme to inmates at all prisons in the country. Snr Asst Comm Gaka called on citizens to guard against misinformation on vaccination programme.

“There is a lot of information that is circulating on social media that carries negative aspects on the vaccine of Covid-19,” he said. “People should not rely on that information because this vaccine is safe and l urge everyone to get vaccinated and ignore falsehoods that are circulating.”

More than 70 000 people have now received their first dose with daily totals rising.

Among those who also received their second dose of vaccine yesterday in the “justice group” were Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Mrs Virginia Mabhiza, Commissioner General Moses Chihobvu and deputy commissioner generals Shepherd Mpofu, Manetswa Christina Manhivi, Social Ndanga and Dr Granisia Musango.

RBZ forex auction: Zimdollar loses further ground against USD. According to the results from today’s RBZ forex auction, the weighted average fell from US$1: ZWL$84.1197 last week to US$1: ZWL$84.4001 this week.

The Zimbabwe dollar has continued its downward slide against the US dollar, results from the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s foreign exchange auction show.

US$3.58 million was allocated to the Small to Medium Enterprises forex auction while US$32.18 million was allocated to the main forex auction.

In total, US$35.76 million was allotted this week, with the bulk of the allotment (US$16.36 million) going to raw materials followed by machinery and equipment (US$6.28 million).

300 bids were received on the Small to Medium enterprises forex auction, with 253 accepted and 47 bids disqualified. On the main forex auction, a total of 344 bids were received, 276 were accepted while 68 were disqualified.

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) said bids that were disqualified were not eligible in terms of the Priority List.

Bids with overdue CDIs, outstanding Bills of Entry (BOEs), and those with sufficient FCA balances were also disqualified. Below is the report of the auction (in picture form).

Zodwa Mkandla: Ginimbi’s family and friends should be patient. Last week, Mkandla, through her lawyers Venturas and Samkange, wrote a letter to Ginimbi’s long-time friend, Nomatter Zinyengere to have a Bentley Continental GT under his custody surrendered.

Ginimbi’s former wife, Zodwa Mkandla said the late Genius Kadungure’s assets should all be accounted for first before anyone can benefit. Zodwa wants the car registered with the Master of High Court as required in terms of the Administration of Estates Act and surrendered to the Executor.

She said she does need not the car or any part of Ginimbi’s estate but wants all the assets that belonged to the late socialite registered in his estate. Said Mkandla: Everyone knows that I bought that car and because it was registered by Genius, it should be part of his estate, no two ways about it.

People think that the cars that Genius left and all the other things are his net worth not realising that there are some huge bills that are outstanding and would need to be cleared first.

That is why everything that Genius left must be included in the estate and outstanding bills are settled before anyone can benefit. People, including his friends, should not hurry to lay claim to any of his properties before due processes.

We know he had businesses in South Africa, vehicles for those businesses, bank accounts and so forth and all those have to be accounted for and included in his estate.

… There is nothing that happened with Genius, with regards his businesses, that he would not inform me and, especially that car given that I am the one who bought it. The Bentley Continental GT was reportedly bought by Zodwa from the UK in 2013, while Ginimbi paid for duty in Zimbabwe.

Man who murdered girlfriend in 2015 arrested for pouring new wife hot cooking oil. The 28-year-old man allegedly brutally murder his girlfriend in 2015 and his arrest on Monday came after he poured hot cooking oil on his wife.

Police have finally arrested a suspected murderer who has been on a fugitive from the law since 2017. Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the suspect’s wife is admitted to a hospital in Harare.

She is reported to be battling for her life after she suffered serious burns all over her body. In 2015, the suspect allegedly killed his 21-year-old girlfriend at her parents’ home.

He is reported to have struck the young woman with a hoe four times in the head after she tried to end their relationship. Police officers arrested the suspect after they found him hiding under a bed in the main bedroom.

He was then granted bail by the High Court in 2017 but he skipped bail and became a fugitive, forcing the courts to issue a warrant for his arrest.

Bizarrely, the suspect has been moving around freely with police deliberately failing to arrest him, the murdered woman’s father said.

Full text: President Mnangagwa’s additional COVID-19 measures during Easter. Zimbabweans will be celebrating Easter Holidays from this Friday, 2nd April 2021. This Christian Commemoration ends on the 5th of April when our Nation celebrates Easter Monday.

ADDITIONAL MEASURES AGAINST THE SPREAD OF COVID-19 DISEASE DURING EASTER HOLIDAYS

In keeping with Christian practices, Zimbabweans flock to different places of worships, with some visiting holy shrines. Still, others may travel beyond our borders for the same purpose. The risk of disease transmission during the period is thus predictably high.

To safeguard our Nation, we need to take some additional measures to avoid the 3rd wave of the pandemic which is already attacking some Nations of the World.

For the duration of the Easter Holidays:

1. Travellers coming into the country from neighbouring States must undergo valid Covid-19 PCR tests not more than 48 hours from the time of their departure for Zimbabwe. Travellers without aforesaid valid test results clearing them for safe travel will be quarantined for 10 days at designated hotels, and at their own cost.

2. School learners who are in boarding schools will not be permitted to travel back home. Equally, no parents will travel to concerned schools for purposes of visits.

3. Bars and night clubs will remain closed during the Easter Holidays.

4. All gatherings, including church services, funerals and weddings will remain limited to not more than 50 people.

5. Wearing of masks and social distancing will be strictly adhered to and enforced.

6. People from different localities are encouraged to come forward to designated centres for vaccination so that our Nation builds towards herd immunity.

7. The general public is encouraged to defer unnecessary travel outside localities of residence.

8. As already stated, coming into Zimbabwe without a valid PCR negative certificate will require quarantining in a hotel for 10 days at own cost. Those with valid PCR negative certificates will self-quarantine at home or in a hotel for 10 days from day of arrival into the country.

9. Tourists who volunteer to be vaccinated can access vaccination services available in our country at their own cost.

After receiving medical care, the referee was carried off the pitch on a stretcher, forcing the match to be cut short as the fourth referee, who could have replaced Bulu for the match to proceed, was from Cote d’Ivoire and could not be allowed to officiate a game of his own country.

Themba Mliswa: I never invited journalists to my residence. According to Mliswa’s application heard before Harare magistrate Tafadzwa Miti, the police approved the gathering and assigned two officers from Borrowdale Police Station, who attended the press conference on the day in question.

Motormouth Norton legislator has told the court that he did not invite journalists to his residence for a press conference, saying this was done by the Media Centre. The parliamentarian, who is being charged for violating Covid19 regulations, is represented by his lawyer Musindo Hungwe.

“There were two police officers from Borrowdale Police Station. We had informed the police that the Media Centre had decided to conduct the conference at my place where there was space. Because of Covid-19, they wanted somewhere with space. We notified the police in writing and they approved and gave us two police officers.

The police were in attendance on the day,” said Mliswa when he took to the witness stand giving oral evidence during his application for the matter to the Constitutional Court.

Southern Africa Human Rights Watch, Director, Dewa Mavhinga says he has been booted out of a WhatsApp group dominated by State agents, Ferrets and ZANU-PF sycophants.

Mavhinga says he was kicked out of the group, after he started giving them names of people killed by security forces since November 2017, adding that these forces cannot stomach the truth.

“Just got ejected from a WhatsApp group dominated by Flag of Zimbabwe State agents, Ferrets & ZANU-PF sycophants when I started giving them names of people killed by security forces since November 2017.

“They cannot stomach the truth,” he says. In the Zimbabwe government, critics have over the years been subjected to torture, abduction and others to enforced disappearances. In all the cases, the government denied the allegations, however, no culprits have been arrested.

Meanwhile, in a different story, Mavhinga says a truck driver has been shot dead in Mesina by suspected armed robbers who had demanded cash and mobile phones from drivers in line to cross Beitbridge Border post.

Huge cobra snake causes a stir at a hospital. A venomous cobra was seen and killed at Mvuma General Hospital on Sunday afternoon, the second big snake to be killed at the health service centre inside a month.

A general hand at the hospital took aim at the reptile and struck it once on the head thereby killing it instantly. The place near the hospital is bushy.

“It’s true that there is a snake that was seen and killed here. However, it is untrue that it was in the hospital. Someone must have killed the snake and then taken pictures of it from one of the corridors,” said Dr Maunga.

ZimParks spokesperson Tinashe Farawo said snakes are rarely found in clean, clear environments.

“No snake will creep into a clean, clear environment. We urge the public to keep their surroundings clean by practising good waste management and cutting grass around their environs. “You won’t find snakes where there are no hideouts. It is also advisable to use snake repellents or to use indigenous remedies to keep reptiles away from institutions and homes,” said Farawo.

Actress Nokuthula Mavuso has exposed the theatre industry for being unfavorable to female thespians. Slavery, is how she describes the industry saying women are overworked and undervalued.

Artists have always raised concerns over the low pay in the entertainment industry, and also in the same length, they are overworked. The star who is from Rhythm City fame, took to her social media and lamented how working in that space is a waste of time and talent.

She clarified that she has nothing but love for the industry but has pointed out it’s major flaw, “I love theatre I really do mara ke slavery in this country. Especially if you’re a woman. The pay is just not worth it.“

Mavuso even made a comparison between SA theatre and American children’s theatre saying the kids get paid way better, “Children’s theatre abroad are paid way better.”

Nokuthula has worked in the theatre industry before and also worked in television. Not only as an actress, but also as a director who never got credited for her work.

“I co-directed a play. Director implemented all my suggestions and didn’t pay all my money, no credit. Co-directed another one of her plays, same s**t, plus she borrowed my book and never returned it. I’m more mad about the book to be honest,” the actress said.

Another shocker is that the actress played multiple characters and sang in various productions, but took home R742 a week. Her rent was R300 a week. This made her question how much her white colleagues were getting paid.

“Worked at that theatre ko Braam. I was taking home R742 per week. I’d pay my rent every week (R300) just in case I would go months without work,” she tweeted.

All this success in the industry, she has still suffered a great deal of harassment as well, something many actresses have vocalized. This happened to her many years ago when she was 24 years old. She opened up about how a certain male actor would lick his lips and make sexual remarks when no one was looking. After numerous attempts of reporting him failed, she resorted to protesting. Onset, people treated her badly as though she did not know what she was talking about.

“Worked with an actor years ago who’d harass me constantly when no one was looking. He’d lick his lips, make snaaks comments, etc. I reported him to the SE. Nothing was done. Reported again. No action. Until I refused to work. I went to the studio. Block. “Action!” I’d sit instead,” she wrote.

“It hurt deeply, but I knew nobody was coming to save me. I still refused to shoot. It was tense. I knew I was not in the wrong – I’d been wronged. Rewrites and the story was cut short…I regret nothing about standing up and fighting for myself. In fact, I regret not punching him in the face. I was 24.”

IT’S traumatic enough to lose a loved one. Families watched in horror on Sunday as one of the Eastern Cape’s biggest funeral parlours was gutted by a fire. Shweme & Shweme Funeral Parlour in Zwide kasi, Gqeberha, was almost completely destroyed, but the mortuary and admin blocks were not damaged.

But what’s even worse is when a fire attacks the very building your loved one is being stored in! Bystanders took photos and videos of the fire and posted them on social media, which caused panic among those waiting for loved ones to be buried.

Undertaker manager Lungiswa Nyoka told Daily Sun: “The fire started in our storeroom, where we keep our coffin-lowering equipment and mats, at about 8am. “We’d just bought 100 new coffins and 70 of them were caskets.

“I also counted R1 million in the morning, which was in our safe. The fire destroyed everything. Even coins were burnt beyond recognition. “The fire moved very fast. Even our security guards, who’re on site 24 hours a day, don’t know what caused the fire. It only ended at about 2pm.

“We managed to remove about 50 bodies being stored. We’ve sent them to government mortuaries. “Our admin block, where we have the names of the deceased, was not affected.” Nyoka said 99% of the building was completely damaged.

“However, funerals scheduled for this week will continue,” he said. “We appeal to our clients to come forward and to not listen to social media stories.”

Yoliswa Dick (50) said her sister’s body was taken to the funeral parlour on Friday, 26 March. “I asked the cops and firefighters about the bodies and they said everything burnt,” she said.

“However, the owner says everything is alright. I don’t know what to believe any more.” Captain Andre Beetge said: “I can confirm that there was a fire, but no case has been opened yet with the police.”

Zimbabwe Warriors coach, Zdravko Loga Logarusic has said despite the 2-0 loss to Zambia on Monday, he was able to identify some players who are ready to represent the nation.

He said the decision to field a “weaker” team was influenced by a number of factors including injuries to some players and the fact that some of them had been booked.

Loga added that the ” tense encounter” against Zambia was ideal for the inexperienced players to show whether they are now ready for the big occasion or not. He added:

There was definitely no need for any of them to be nervous. This is the highest level in professional football and you can’t expect a player, at the national team level, to be jittery.

But, some showed nerves and you can feel for them. Some of them played well and we picked a lot of positives from that game. The point was to give each of the players a chance, to make a case for himself, in a pressure game.

And, did they prove their worth?

Yes, some did and some didn’t.

The essence is to build a strong national team, capable of competing against stronger opponents.

So, some of the players are absolutely good and we can have them in the team, going forward. Loga added that his intention was to build a strong national team hence the need to give every player a chance to showcase their potential.

Khanyi recently found love in the arms of businessman Kudzai and taking to his Instagram stories, Lasizwe shared how head over heels in love Khanyi is and said he believes that she has found ‘true love’. “This is real love! I’ve never seen my sister so happy and content,” he said on his IG stories.

The two were recently setting power couple goals together with their boyfriends but Lasizwe’s happiness was short-lived. This follows after he was played dirty by his ex-boyfriend who cheated on him.

Chiredzi security guard murdered and body burnt. A 60-year-old Chiredzi security guard was allegedly murdered by unknown assailants who decapitated his head and threw the body in a bonfire in an incident that shook the sugar cane growing community on Sunday.

The chopped head of Lazawa Salani of Buffalo Range was found by a search party comprising the police and ordinary people buried in a small shallow pit about 1,5km from an open space near the Chiredzi Magistrates’ Court where the deceased guarded.

Salani was employed at Maria Mabasa Plastic Scrap Collection Company in the town and police recovered his blood-stained uniforms and trails of blood on some bales of plastic scrap he guarded.

Masvingo police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa today said police investigators found some of Salawi’s remains burning in a smouldering bonfire that had been set by his suspected killers at his workplace.

His remains were taken to Chiredzi District Hospital for a postmortem. Police were still looking for leads to establish the motive of the grisly murder and the suspects.

Save Valley elephants tramples farmer to death. The body of Peter Negate (41) of Chegwite area between Humane and Senukwe ranches was found covered with sorghum stover and shrubbery by villagers Monday morning.

A Chiredzi farmer has been trampled to death by a herd of elephants after he tried to scare them away from his sorghum field in the Save Valley Conservancy. Before his tragic death, Negate had toured one of his fields and discovered that jumbos had feasted on his sorghum crop.

According to Masvingo police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, Negate decided to spend the night in the field anticipating return of the jumbos.

Return they did just after midnight, and Negate decided to scare them away. However, the jumbos became aggressive and charged at him before trampling him to death.

Police Support Unit and Parks and Wildlife Management Authority teams who attended the scene found that Negate’s left leg was broken while part of his ribs and bowels were protruding.

Mugabe buys vehicle for fired Matemadanda. Mugabe won the chaotic Kwekwe District Coordinating Committee (DCC) as secretary for finance with the help of Matemadanda who was demoted for reportedly failing to conduct the DCC elections fairly.

Aspiring ZANU PF Kwekwe Central legislator Kandros Mugabe has been accused of buying the latest Toyota Landcruiser to the recently demoted party commissar Victor Matemadanda. Contacted for comment Mugabe said the allegations are a result of jealousy.

“Some people in the camp are just cooking stories for me l did not buy Matemadanda a car as alleged l won fairly and if l did buy him a car they was supposed to be a disciplinary action when we held DCC elections which were violent but to date no action was taken there is no favour here,” Mugabe said.

He further claimed that people were sending wrong messages to president Emmerson Mnangagwa just to blackmail him and make sure that he will not contest in the looming by-election where he is set to battle it out with Minister of state security Owen Ncube’s nephew Energy Ncube popularly known as Dhala to replace the late Masango (Blackman) Matambanadzo.

Mzansi actress Masasa Mbangeni is not taking it likely with the GBV issue in the country as she lost her friend to it.

The star who is not shy to say whatever feels is wrong took to her social media to talk about GBV and how some people don’t want her to speak on it.

In her post, Masasa shared that she lost her friend who was abused and killed by her husband.

Taking to social media, Masasa posted a picture and spoke about how she lost one of her friends to abuse.

“To people who say I have no right to comment on #GBV this is a childhood friend gunned down by her husband. This could be me or you? Shall we still keep quiet prefects of GBV?,” she said.

The perpetrator is still on the loose and Masasa has been posting on social media in hopes that the man will be found, so he can pay for his crimes.
