Mwazha church rift widens as son returns

Mwazha church rift widens as son returns. Archbishop Mwazha’s family was last year involved in an altercation over the succession of the religious leader, resulting in one of the church members, Reverend Ernest Mhambare, instituting legal proceedings regarding succession.

The African Apostolic Church (VaApostora veAfrica) founded by Archbishop Paul Mwazha popularly known as Mutumwa, has further split, with one of his elder sons reportedly forming a church that is attracting some of the church members.

There have been reports that the first born, Bishop Ngonidzashe Mwazha had left the church, but returned and was leading another faction.

Ngonidzashe, who all along was a member of Johane Marange Apostolic Church, has since reverted to his father’s church and is now enjoying considerable support. His recent sermons, such as the well-attended Eastview, Harare, pilgrimage last Saturday, are evidence of how some members of the church are warming up to him.

Ngonidzashe dismissed claims he had returned to his father’s church to cause divisions but insisted that the leader himself, Mutumwa Mwazha, had called him back so he could help his brother.

“It is Paul Mwazha himself who called me back to help AK (Bishop Alfred Kushamisa Mwazha) who is the leader of the church. We are simply helping people and doing the work of God as what our father used to do during his days when he still had the energy. Our job speaks for itself. We do not spend time engaging the media to fight battles. I am a Man of God and helping my brother,” he said.

Some of the church members dismissed claims of another faction, and said Ngonidzashe was operating outside the church while the AAC led by Paul Mwazha remained the same.

One of Archbishop Mwazha’s sons, Bishop Alfred Kushamisa Mwazha, popularly known as AK whom Ngonidzashe claimed to be helping, said he was not aware of the latest division. Bishop AK said nothing had changed from the time a court judgment issued in December last year nullified his appointment as the leader of the church and successor, and ruled that Archbishop Mwazha remains the leader.

“We hear Ngonidzashe is conducting services in Waterfalls and Damofalls. The church has not split. “Ngonidzashe left the church and he knows the church regulations concerning the reasons for his departure. His issues have not been addressed and he will have to follow proper channels to rejoin the church,” he said.

AAC general secretary, Bishop Jeshua Mhizha said Ngonidzashe was not operating within their church but had formed his own organisation which was independent from the Archbishop Paul Mwazha led AAC.

“Ngonidzashe is the first born in the family. The church has not split but some sons are now looking for followers for their independent churches. Some are taking advantage of the famous name to lure people to their churches.

“Our church still remains with 28 bishops and only a few bishops have left,” he said.

Press secretary, Bishop Wilson Rutsate, said the church had structures put in a place by their leader Archbishop Mwazha.

“Some of us respect the structures and we remain loyal to them. Archbishop Mwazha made transparent appointments for leadership and if anyone decides to leave their structures, we have no control over them.

“We have no control over further splits and they do not even add any value to us because we respect structures,” he said. Bishop Rutsate said the case was taken to the courts, which directed that the church reverts to the constitution with Archbishop Mwazha remaining the leader.

“If people work outside the structures, they have their own rights to do so and we do not stop them. Their structures are of no consequence to us. We wait for the final decisions from the courts and it put all these issues to rest.

“What we know is that no one can claim to be a leader when Mutumwa Mwazha is still there,” he said.

Archbishop Mwazha’s family was in May last year involved in an altercation over the succession of the religious leader, resulting in one of the church members, Rev Mhambare instituting legal proceedings regarding succession.

One of the sons, Alfred, claimed to have been appointed successor by his father while some church and family members argued that the Archbishop preferred his youngest son, Tawanda, who was away, to succeed him.

Both parties said they were basing their argument on a letter written by Archbishop Mwazha’s aide on the instructions of the church leader earlier this year, stating that Tawanda should continue presiding over the holy communion ceremony in the church. He also indicated that Tawanda should be accompanied by Alfred to buy items for the ceremony.

ED promotes 8 ZNA colonels. The eight Generals are David Charasika, Elliot Shoko, Paul Ngadze, Evison Nyamangodo, Amos Svosvanepasi, Hasha Mhlanga, Richard Huchu and Phillip Dikinya.

President Mnangagwa has promoted eight colonels to the rank of substantive brigadier general as they retire. Their retirements are between July 2020 and April 2021.

In a statement, Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) director of Public Relations, Colonel Makotore said the retirements are in terms of section 3(a) Statutory Instrument 257 of 2020 in conjunction of Section 15(1)(b) of the Defence Act.

“The promotions were in terms of section 3(a) Statutory Instrument 257 of 2020 in conjunction of Section 15(1)(b) of the Defence Act,” he said.

Col Makotore said ZNA commander Lieutenant General Absalom Chimonyo who presided over the investiture ceremony commended the general officers for diligently executing their duties during their service with the organisation.

“This event, therefore, marks the official recognition of your exemplary service to the nation in various capacities. As we honour your illustrious service through today’s promotion, you are to live up to expectations of this distinct rank even in your retirement,” said Lt Gen Chimonyo.

He said he would not hesitate to second the generals to private and public institutions in capacities which range from management, advisory, think tank and directory.

“Whilst this should not be misconstrued as insurance that you are destined for employment in such capacity, if opportunity arise in such areas, we will not hesitate to recommend you for such employment. I therefore challenge you to hold professionalism inculcated in you over the years in the event that you get appointed in any other institution upon retirement,” he said.

Section 3(a) Statutory Instrument 257 of 2020 states that a commissioned officer of the rank of Colonel or Group Captain or equivalent ranks who intends to retire be promoted to the next higher rank of Brigadier General or Air Commodore or the equivalent ranks in other uniformed forces six months before retirement.

Artisanal miner kills brother over 0.02 grammes of gold

Artisanal miner kills brother over 0.02 grammes of gold. Police have confirmed the incident. Manicaland provincial deputy police spokesperson Inspector Luxson Chananda said last week, Samuel Sokiri (27), Simudzai Sokiri (31), Freddy Mukonowamwere and Alois Nyamatanga were drinking opaque beer at Chimusasa Business Centre.

A Nyanga man reportedly assaulted his brother to death over 0.02 grammes of gold which the siblings had panned in neighbouring Mozambique.

They later decided to go home and retire for the night. However, on their way home, the suspect, Samuel Sokiri had a dispute with his brother Simudzai over 0.02 grammes of gold they had panned in Nyamutombwe area, Mozambique.

The two exchanged harsh words over the issue until the argument degenerated into a fist fight. Mukonowamwere tried to restrain them but failed. “The suspect started assaulting Simudzai with fists and he fell on the ground and became unconscious,” said Chananda.

Samuel then left the scene together with Mukonowamwere and Nyamatanga leaving the now deceased lying on the ground unconscious and proceeded home.

“The deceased was spotted by Chimusasa Kembo (67) who was coming from Chimusasa Business Centre. The deceased had some head and face injuries,” Chananda added.

Kembo rushed to Samuel’s home and informed him Samuel and his wife that Simudzai was in great pain. Samuel’s wife Nyarai Nyamuwe rushed home and managed to assist Simudzai to reach his home.

However, Simudzai succumbed to the injuries the following day and Kembo reported the matter at Ruwangwe Police station who attended the scene leading to the arrest of Samuel.

Chananda urged members of the public to seek counselling whenever they found themselves in disputes with other parties. “People should solve their problems amicably rather than taking law into their own hands,” he said.

More details on the Gweru Businessman, socialite scandal that resulted in 2 deaths. The junior wife’s sister, a friend and the suspected boyfriend died in the attack while by late last night, the wife was battling for her life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Gweru Central Hospital after sustaining serious gunshot wounds.

In a frenzied gun attack in Gweru city centre early yesterday, a polygamous Gweru businessman shot four people, three of them fatally, after confronting his second wife whom he suspected of cheating on him.

Police are now hunting for the suspect, Peter Dube, who is said to own a car dealership and a mine.

Dube allegedly approached the wife, Nyasha Nharingo and suspected lover, only identified as Shelton, as they were parked outside a flat where the wife resides. Dube is said to have shot Shelton, who was on the driver’s seat, at close range and he died on the spot.

The wife’s best friend, Gamuchirai Mudungwe, was shot in the chest and also died on the spot while the wife and her sister Nyaradzo, were shot in the neck and head respectively.

The two sisters were rushed to the hospital where Nyaradzo died on admission. When The Herald news crew arrived at the scene yesterday morning the body of Shelton was still on the driver’s seat of the kombi he was driving before the shooting.

Mudungwe’s body was lying on the staircases of Bensam Flats along Main Street which police had barricaded as people jostled to get near the scene.

Witnesses and neighbours said Dube and Nyasha Nharingo had a long-standing dispute with Dube accusing the wife of infidelity. They said prior to the shooting incident, Ms Nharingo, Mudungwe and Nyaradzo who had just come from South Africa, organised a trip to Masvingo where they were accompanied by Shelton.

“Dube then got wind that his wife had gone to Masvingo with her boyfriend and he decided to go to the flat where he waylaid them,” said a neighbour who requested anonymity. Nyasha and company arrived at the flat at around midnight and Dube confronted them as they parked the vehicle.

“He asked Shelton why he was driving his wife at night and as Shelton tried to offer an explanation, Dube drew a pistol and shot Shelton at close range. “He then went for his wife’s friend, Gamuchirai, whom he shot in the chest,” said another witness, Ms Keyler Nhari.

Ms Nhari, who was also in the Kombi holding Dube’s son when the shooting occurred, said she fled from the scene carrying the baby and Dube went after the wife and sister who were rushing into the flat.Gamuchirai

“I then heard two shots inside the flat and knew he had shot his wife and the sister. We rushed to the police to make a report,” she said. Nyasha’s father, Mr Bothwell Nharingo said after committing the crime, Dube phoned and told him about the incident.

“My son-in-law called me in the middle of the night and said come to Bensam Flats and see what has happened. He did not explain so I panicked and drove to the scene and police were already there.nyasha-gweru

“My two daughters were writhing in pain with bullets in their bodies,” he said. Police yesterday said they were still hunting for Dube who went into hiding after allegedly committing the crime.

They said Dube was responding to police calls to his mobile phone and promising to show up at Gweru Central Police Station. Acting police spokesperson for Midlands Province, Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende said investigations were still underway.

The evolution of songbird Tamy Moyo

The evolution of songbird Tamy Moyo. Apart from her music, her fashion sense has gone through numerous transformations. Tamy Moyo has been in the public eye since she was a teenager.

She has evolved from a youthful teen at Westridge High School, with her debut album “Celebrate Your Life” putting her on the map, complemented by her being an edgy, fashion-forward pop star.

Tamy is one star who knows how to use fashion and style to define her brand. But in the years, the 23-year-old afro rhythm and blues pop star has created one of the most recognizable looks in the music industry.

Well, she is no longer a stranger on the winner’s podium, and after interacting with her, one easily realises how humble she is despite her achievements. On the music side, Tamy has scooped almost everything on home turf and is determined to conquer the sub-region and even beyond.

She has touched the hearts of many as an entertainer, philanthropist and influencer fighting for the girl-child’s rights. In short, this aptly sums up Tamy Moyo, Zimbabwe’s most consistent and phenomenal diva destined for stars.

Moyo Tamy

Many are interested in knowing who Tamy Moyo is, her family, fashion and social side, apart from the music side.

She opened up to The Herald on Saturday Lifestyle in a wide-ranging interview where she shared what drives her to keep on working hard and bagging more gongs.

She also talked about her romantic relationships. “I am a young Zimbabwean lady who is driven and passionate about her craft,” said Tamy.

“I am ambitious and very much a big dreamer. I am one who sees beyond the now and thinks ahead. I’m edgy as well in my taste for pretty much anything, hence my sense of style.Tamy Moyo

“I strive for perfection in everything I set my mind to do.”

The songbird, who is no doubt one of the country’s most sought after divas, has been exposed to various cultures which shaped her career. “I attended primary school at Lusitania Primary School which is a Portuguese school in Harare,” said Tamy.

“I went on to study my high school at Westridge High School which is a part of the Hindoo Society where I did my O and A levels.

“I’m working towards going to university sometime soon. At this point, I have decided to focus on my craft as an artiste and grow myself more in this aspect as I look forward to furthering my studies.”Tamy Moyo

Tamy confirms she was exposed to music at a tender age and grew the passion. “I’ve always loved music and singing,” she said. “I started singing professionally at the age of seven, my first performance being at Celebration Church where I was invited by the Deuchulles to sing.

“I later on went to perform at the National Arts Merit Awards that year where I sang the national anthem which was directed by Carl Joshua Ncube.

“I went to sing at more events where I’d perform the national anthem at HIFA, Winter Jazz Fest and Madison Square Garden in New York. I then decided to release my first album the 18th Rollercoaster in 2016 and have since released some singles.”Tamy Moyo

The Mt Pleasant bred songstress owes her success to her family that has always been supportive of her over the years.

“My dad discovery my gift,” said Tamy. “I used to sing in the senior choir while I was a junior in primary school and my dad picked it up. From then, he helped me practice and taught me how to write music and got me all these events where I’d perform.

“I am a performer, so I constantly rehearse. Dance helps me stay in shape. I do a little bit of fitness training and I swim to exercise.” Like any other artiste, Tamy has other special people in her life who influenced her sense of fashion.Tamy

“I am fortunate and blessed to have met a woman by the name Danayi Madondo who is the founder of Hause of Stone,” she said. “We met when I was 16 and we shared great chemistry and she always believed in my craft.

“She is an established and accomplished designer stylist. “She is very creative and has been exposed to the international market. We always want to come with something edgy and different and that’s what inspires the fashion in my craft. Danayi is a talented creative in her own right.”

Unlike fellow songbirds who need an extra push to do their work, Tamy has been doing well, if her catalogue is anything to go by. “To date I have one album and seven singles,” she said.Tamy Moyo

“The album is titled The 18th Rollercoaster where you find my first few songs to air Ndibereke, Sango and Tonight. From then, I have been doing singles such as Beautiful Ndozvandiri ft Takura and Dobba Don, Lay It Down featuring Nutty O, Kwandinobva, Kuteera ft Jah Prayzah and to date Phone Call Ah, which is out on my YouTube channel, as my latest offering.”

Tamy shared some of her achievements which she said could inspire others. “I could name a few of my greatest achievements, my favourite being my experience at Coke Studio in 2019,” she said. “Also headlining a BET festival in South Africa 2019 with Sho Madjozi and Mafikizolo.

“I also shared the stage with Joe Thomas. I won my first Nama in 2020 for Best Female. I recently took home three Star FM awards for Best Female, Best Collaboration and Best RnB song.”

As a determined diva who aims to make i on the international market, Tamy says she is open for collaborations.Tamy Moyo

“I would love to collaborate with Beyoncé and Tiwa Savage! These are two strong females who have accomplished so much for themselves and are creative geniuses in their own right,” said Tamy.

“My role model is Beyoncé! She is perfection redefined. She is a hard worker and a dreamer. She stops at nothing to be the best at what she does.” If she was not a musician, Tamy said she could have been busy in the courts.

“If I wasn’t a musician, I think I’d be a lawyer,” she said. “I have always been passionate about matters to do with justice and injustice.” As a young lady, Tamy has a clique that she hangs around with if she is not busy with music and fashion. “I have a few girl friends who I love very much,” she said.

“We usually hang out in enclosed private spaces. Once in a while we make appearances at open spaces like Hometown, Queen of Hearts just to name a few.

“We love to dance and eat a whole lot. I’m a foodie, I love a good meal and good outdoorsy vibes. My family and friends treat me like a normal being at home. They see me as just their sister, friend, daughter nothing more. But obviously when it’s time to work I’m Tamy Moyo and they respect that.”Tamy

Her wishes as an artiste are to grow big regionally and internationally. “I hope to be one of the most successful artistes across Africa and hopefully win a BET,” said Tamy.

“I hope to be better than I am today at what I do. All the above mentioned are just my colleagues in industry who I work well with and respect very much. I haven’t dated any of the above.”

Asked about her relationship status on the back of rumours that she was dating singers such as Takura, Holy Ten and even producer Chiweda, Tamy cleared the air on her relations with Chiweda that many thought was her fiancé.

“Chiweda and I work well together and I respect his craft,” she said. “I am not at liberty to say more. On the aforementioned too, it is just business, nothing much.”

Despite being bred and raised in Harare, Tamy has her rural home at heart. “I do go to rural areas,” she said. “I have been to my mum’s rural home mostly in Mutoko and Domboshawa. “I love it when we come together as a family and enjoy our time together,” Tamy said she loves to eat rice.Tamy Moyo

“I love anything with rice,” she said. “As of late I have been eating sushi a lot and have grown to like it very much. One thing I can’t live without is my laptop. I keep everything essential in there, music of course.” Tamy said she is also a churchgoer.

The sultry singer, who is managed by her parents, opened up on her unique hair style, especially the white braids she wears on stage. “I love white hair because it sets me apart and that’s a statement on its own,” she said. “I love that it represents growth which is what I’m all about.”

President Mnangagwa congratulates the Chevrons for historic win against Pakistan

President Mnangagwa congratulates the Chevrons for the historic win against Pakistan. President Mnangagwa hailed the Chevrons for their gallant show which helped them beat Pakistan by 19 runs in the second Twenty20I match at Harare Sports Club yesterday.

It was Zimbabwe’s first victory, in this format of the game, over the Asian giants. “What a performance from the Chevrons! Congratulations to @ZimCricketv on a historic win today #ZIMvPAK,’’ tweeted the President.

The International Cricket Council described the victory as a “historic fightback,’’ in the match report on their official website.

“In their 16th attempt, Zimbabwe recorded their first-ever T20I win against Pakistan when they defeated the visitors by 19 runs in the second T20I,’’ read the report.

“Pakistan were outclassed by a brilliant bowling performance by Zimbabwe, who defended the lowest total of 118 at the Harare Sports Club, to set up the series for the decider.

“The hosts were asked to bat and with the return of Brendan Taylor captaining the side in the absence of Sean Williams, who missed out due to an injury. The hosts’ conservative approach in the powerplay resulted in Taylor (5) being forced to play a rash shot, losing his wicket to Faheem Ashraf.

“Zimbabwe managed 25/1 in the first six overs with Tinashe Kamunhukamwe and Tadiwanashe Marumani at the crease. The debutant Arshad Iqbal struck with the second breakthrough for Pakistan as he snared his maiden international wicket dismissing Marumani for 13.

“Thereafter, Kamunhukamwe’s modus operandi of prudent batting didn’t help Zimbabwe’s cause as he failed to capitalise on his slow start. He became Danish Aziz’s victim — out caught for 34 runs in 40 balls.

“The Pakistani bowlers had taken charge of the game from ball one and looked in complete control. Late in the innings, Regis Chakabva (18) and Tarisai Musakanda (13) fought fire with fire but were not able to last for long.

“What looked like a comfortable total to chase down, Pakistan was crippled with the early loss of the in-form Mohammad Rizwan (13) and Fakhar Zaman (2) and were reduced to 37/2 in 7.5 overs. “Babar Azam and Mohammad Hafeez then attempted to revive the chase. Hafeez’s lack of runs since his return to the side continued as managed to score just five runs in 10 deliveries.

“Babar played a sensible hand of 41 off 45 balls but lack of support from the other end forced him to succumb under rising pressure.

“Zimbabwe bowlers rattled the Pakistani middle-order causing a big collapse. From 78/3 in the 16th over, Pakistan were bundled out for 99. “Luke Jongwe starred with the ball for Zimbabwe with his best T20I bowling figures of 4/18 that included the prized wickets of Babar and Rizwan.’’

Inevitably, Twitter exploded, after the events at Harare Sports Club an here are some of the tweets from around the world:

What others said

“Extraordinary stuff. Zimbabwe defend 119 against an experienced Pakistan, bowling them out for just 99. Congratulations Zimbabwe, a great moment for them. Pakistan minus Rizwan this series – 153/15.’’ — @cric_blog.

“A blur of fiery red at the Harare Sports Club. Nice to see, but the reality check it’s given Pakistan this close to the World T20 is hard to overstate.’’ — @Danny61000.

“These sort of defeats are inexcusable, I mean we couldn’t get even 100 vs Zim chasing 119 and we had our 1st choice top 4, such a poor performance,’’ — @khurramaziz123.

“Have the respect and applaud that performance from Zimbabwe. Showed great energy and commitment in the field, never gave up . . . squeezed the greatest batsman in the game and got their thoroughly deserved win. Congratulations Zimbabwe,’’ — @AatifNawaz.

“Zimbabwe, you beauties, what a win!’’ — @Gillian_Price.

“Not sure about the quality of the pitch to produce an entertaining match but outstanding effort from Zimbabwe to get a win here,’’ — @worldofBG.

“Pakistan all out 99. Zimbabwe by 19 runs their first T20I victory over Pakistan. Series decider Sunday,’’ — @rickeyrecricket.

“This is the WORST batting display I have seen from Pakistan in a long, long time. Zimbabwe beat Pakistan for the first time in T20Is after 15 straight losses, people have been saying that our tail starts from two down and today it was quite evident,’’ – @IamIsrarHashmi.

“Chased 204 in 18 overs vs South Africa in South Africa, couldn’t chase 119 against Zimbabwe, both matches within ten days, this is Pakistan Cricket. Unpredictable always,’’ — @raoo512.

“Really good by Zim and Jongwe & embarrassing from Pakistan, a nice wake-up call with a middle order that hasn’t delivered,’’ — @ZAbbasOfficial.

Update on Gweru shooting scandal: 3rd victim succumbs to injuries. The suspect, Peter Dube (35), who is still at large, accused his wife of having an affair, and allegedly shot his wife, her sister, her suspected lover, and a friend. A third person has died following a shooting in Gweru on Thursday night over a suspected case of infidelity.

According to a police memorandum, the deceased, one Shelton and Gamuchirai Mudungwe (30), who were lovers, accompanied their friend Nyasha Nharingo (31) and her sister Nyaradzo Nharingo (34) to Masvingo to collect the latter’s passport.

Nyasha, who is married to Dube as his second wife, did not inform her husband about the trip. Around 8 pm, Dube went to Nyasha’s place at Bensam Flats in the central business district armed with an unidentified gun and accused her of having an affair with Shelton.

A fight broke out and Dube went outside where Shelton was parked and shot him in the head killing him instantly.

Dube then went back into the flat and shot Mudungwe, a popular socialite in Gweru, once in the chest. She died on the spot. In the flat, Dube shot Nyasha once on the neck and her sister Nyaradzo once in the head.

The two sustained serious injuries and were taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital, where Nyaradzo passed on later in the day. Midlands acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende told ZTN:

We are investigating the cases of murder that occurred along Main Street in Gweru on the 23rd of April 2021 in the early hours of the morning. However, we do not yet have finer details and our officers are still gathering evidence and conducting investigations. We will update you as soon as we have more details.

Corpse found floating in drinking well after 6 days, family members were drinking the water. The body of 33-year-old Bowen Mutori was retrieved from the well six days after he went missing but the affected families had been drinking the water unbeknownst that there was a dead body inside.

Four Hopley families were shocked and left traumatised on Tuesday after discovering that they had been drinking water from a well that had a dead human being for nearly a week.

A decision was taken to empty the well when the stench became too strong, only to find a body floating on the water. Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Simon Chazovachii confirmed the incident. He said:

At around 2100 hours, it was reported that he saw an unknown vehicle passing by the road outside his house and told his wife that the motorist was looking for him.

He was reported to have put on his shoes and went away only to be found dead six days later. His body was found floating in a well at a house in their neighbourhood.

The owner of the house where the body was found is reported to have been drawing water from the well unknowingly, forcing them to try and empty the well after an unpleasant smell coming from it.

The families continued to draw water from the well until they discovered the body floating. The body had a swollen face and bruises on the neck and police are appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects.

Chikomborero Chiwona ( 39), who discovered the body floating in her well, told H-Metro that four families had been drawing water for use without realising there was a body in the well. She said:

We tried to empty the well because of the stench from the well but nothing was found on only to discover the body floating the following day.

… We used to fetch water for drinking and watering our garden, but we are now forced to look for alternative sources of water. The well has since been filled with earth as the owners consider it improper to continue drawing water from it.

Nyanga Python Man confesses to Wizardry

Nyanga Python Man confesses to Wizardry. Isaiah Munembe’s relatives are now baying for his blood and demanding that he releases them from his wizardry web.

A man from Nyanga, Manicaland Province, recently confessed before a traditional court that he was a wizard and had acquired the charms from a Malawian traditional healer based in Marondera.

Munembe’s relatives brought him to Chief Saunyama’s court, with his younger brother, Anthony Munembe, and his sister-in-law Maybe Saunyama accusing him of sending his snake to kill their child, Anthony Junior.

Python Man

Anthony Junior died recently from a snake bite and two weeks after his burial, the snake was spotted at the Munembe homestead attempting to attack his two siblings. In his confession before Chief Saunyama’s court, Isaiah said:

I used to walk on a wire and I was famous because of the theatrics. I had a large following but little to show for it. However, after getting some ‘anointment oil’, my financial fortunes changed.

I did not know that by applying python oil every night, the snake was finding its way into my life and setting base at my family home in Nyanga.

Little did I also know that I was being initiated into wizardry. While everyone was fast asleep, I would be up and roaming the village. Isaiah also told the court that he did not know if he was the one responsible for the death of his nephew.Isaiah-Munembe

However, Anthony Junior’s mother told the court that after her son was bitten by the snake, Munembe came looking for it and told them where to bury the deceased and the disappeared.

A Nyanga traditional healer, Sekuru Shingirayi Mukotsanjera, removed a stone, a needle, marijuana, and a small mirror from Isaiah’s body.

During the session with Sekuru Mukotsanjera, Munembe shocked everyone when he allegedly removed a sewing needle from his relative only identified as Mai Ndlovu. Mai Ndlovu had reportedly been complaining of pain in her knee for many years.

Teachers uncompromising: If they want to kill us, they can kill

Teachers uncompromising: If they want to kill us, they can kill. Labour unions representing teachers have threatened to go on strike to force the government to reverse its no-work no-salary policy against their members who are claiming incapacitation.

On Wednesday, seven unions held a meeting in Harare to deliberate on issues affecting the educators and agreed to seek legal counsel to ensure that they are not victimised for not reporting for duty due to incapacitation.

Zimbabwe National Teachers Union(ZINATU) president Manuel Nyawo told NewsDay on Friday that they will escalate their fight with the government until it addresses their incapacitation. He said:

We have decided to escalate our incapacitation fight. There’s no way we are going to rescind that decision until the employer addresses our grievances.

We don’t care what they will do. If they want to kill us, they can kill, but we will continue to press on with our demands and our adopted decision of no pay, no work.

It’s known that teachers are suffering, but the employer decides to entertain legislators who are earning up to $72 000, but teachers who are earning between $18 000 to $22 000 have to go through such punishment of no work, no salary. What do they want to achieve with that?

The government effected a 25% salary hike on teachers’ salaries this month, which saw the highest-paid teacher earning $22 000, but unions want their pre-October 2018 salaries of between US$520 and US$550 to be restored or to be paid the equivalent in local currency.

Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ), president Takavafira Zhou, said they are considering mobilising to stay away or take the government to court under section 165 of the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Teachers Association (ZIMTA) secretary-general Goodwill Taderera said they were still to consult with their membership on the direction to take.

Murdered 2 Mutasa grade 1 students buried

Murdered 2 Mutasa grade 1 students buried. Dilan and Melissa Benza (both seven-year-olds), who were cousins, were finally laid to rest yesterday (Friday), 11 days after their gruesome murder. The two Mutasa Grade One pupils who were brutally murdered and their bodies dumped into a disused Blair toilet have been laid to rest.

The two were murdered on their way home from Mbaza Primary School last week and the prime suspect is Solomon Manyama, Dilan’s maternal uncle. Manyama and his co-accused, Passmore Kumbirai Sambaza have since appeared in court facing murder charges and were remanded in custody to 6 May.

The bodies were squeezed into the pit of a blair toilet at an abandoned homestead about four kilometres from their homes and they both had their throats slit open. Lydia Manyama, Dilan’s mother, is yet to come to terms with her firstborn child’s death. She told Manica Post:

Dilan and Melissa were cousins. They were inseparable, even in death. They would walk to and from school together. On a fateful day, there was a School Development Committee meeting at their school and I attended the meeting. However, I left a bit early.

I never harboured thoughts that I would never see my son again. I went back home to attend to other chores. As Grade One pupils, I expected the two to arrive home earlier than other students. However, they delayed coming home.

Around 3 pm, I started feeling that something was amiss as they would usually arrive home around 1 pm. I checked with Melissa’s parents and they said she was also yet to arrive.

When we started looking for the missing children, a neighbour suggested that we communicate with Solomon as he was among the last people to leave the SDC meeting.

When we called him, he said he had last seen the children near the Kavhuru homestead. We combed the area but did not locate the children. We even searched the nearby Nhindiwa River, all to no avail.

We called Solomon again and this time he said he had last seen the children near the school grounds looking for wild fruits. Solomon is my uncle. He was also close to the children as he was a regular visitor to our place.

I never suspected that he would ever be linked to the disappearance and murder of my son. His involvement, in this case, is a bitter pill for me to swallow.

I was there when their bodies were retrieved from the toilet. At that moment, my heart broke. I just couldn’t accept what was unfolding before my eyes. The sight was just not fair for me and I fainted.

Melissa’s father, Douglas Benza, wants justice to prevail, even it means the banishment of the perpetrators from the area. He said:

Even if the perpetrators are convicted and given lengthy jail terms, we will never be able to co-exist with their families. These people do not have a place in our society.

They should be relocated to another area because I cannot continue interacting with them. In fact, they should undergo the same pain that our children went through.

Father of 18 months toddler who died in Military Helicopter crash speaks. Joseph Fenyere who owns Plot 2 of Gardner Road, Ward 16 in the Chinyika area of Goromonzi, Mashonaland East Province, lost her daughter Jade, while the baby’s twin sister Jada, and their mother escaped with burn injuries.

The father of an 18-month-old toddler who died when a military helicopter, an Agusta Bell 412 (AB 412) crashed onto a house she was sleeping in and exploded in a fireball in Goromonzi on Friday, said he was not at home when the mishap occurred.

Fenyere’s other child, Dean, who was seated in the doorway when the chopper crashed, escaped unhurt. Fenyere said: I was informed that a helicopter had crashed into the house after deflecting from a tree branch at a hilly platform a few metres away and burst into flames.

When the house caught fire, my three children; twin girls, Jade, and Jada were asleep inside, while their four-year-old sibling, Dean, was seated in the doorway.

The mother and other people on the scene initially ran away when the plane plunged onto the house but later tried to retrieve the children from the burning house. Dilon Fenyere (19) said they tried to help the mother’s trapped children, but Jade had already died.

The mother and Jada were taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals and later transferred to Trauma Centre in Borrowdale for treatment, and were reportedly in a stable condition last night.

An eyewitness, Peter Katsago (22), said the chopper appeared to have lost control as it was flying close to the ground. He said: I was washing a car behind the house when the helicopter appeared from the western side in the direction of Harare.

Surprisingly, it seemed to be misfiring as it nosedived at a tree branch on a hillock behind the house and deflected to a boulder, before crashing into the house and bursting into flames on impact.

The deceased Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) members are Flight- Lieutenant Annita Mapiye who is Zimbabwe’s first female helicopter fighter pilot, Wing Commander Tinashe Thomas Mapiye, and Flight Sergeant Chikamhi, a technician.

The cause of the crash will be established after an aircraft accident investigation, the AFZ said in a statement.

Liverpool held to a 1-all draw by Newcastle

Liverpool held to a 1-all draw by Newcastle. Mohamed Salah’s early goal appeared to have put the champions on track for a vital three points as they chase a top-four finish at the end of a disappointing season. Newcastle substitute Joe Willock scored a dramatic but deserved 95th-minute equaliser to deny Liverpool a much-needed win in their pursuit of Champions League football.

But despite dominating early on, Jurgen Klopp’s side were unable to finish the game off and were given a lifeline they failed to take when Callum Wilson’s last-minute equaliser was ruled out for handball.

Steve Bruce’s much-improved visitors kept up the late pressure and were rewarded when Willock fired in for the third match in a row with the last kick of the game to strengthen their own position at the bottom of the table.

Reds fans must now look on as West Ham and Chelsea – both a point ahead of their sixth-placed side – meet later on Saturday. Liverpool fade again
It was already a season to forget for Liverpool with a meek title defence and trophyless campaign, even before the off-field distraction of this week’s aborted interest in the European Super League.

There were muted protests against the club’s owners as the team coach arrived at Anfield but the players themselves were loudly cheered and the disruption was nothing like that seen at Arsenal on Friday night.

Salah’s superb early goal, spinning to control a clearance and smash in what is – remarkably – Liverpool’s first first-half goal at home in 2021, seemed to set them on track for a win that would calm matters on and off the pitch. urgen Klopp lined up Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota alongside Salah in an attacking line-up and they all had chances, with Magpies keeper Martin Dubravka making eight saves in a solid if unspectacular showing.

But as the game wore on Liverpool’s intensity and drive faded, an all-too-familiar sight in recent months.

Newcastle’s late rally meant two more dropped points for the home side and a disappointing season that may yet end without even a Champions League place next term.

Magpies safe now?
Newcastle came into the game on the back of a run of one defeat in seven games that had steered them away from danger, and their last-ditch Anfield exploits have now pushed them nine points ahead of Fulham in 18th place. Surely they are safe?

Bruce has been heavily criticised for his approach throughout his time in charge and Newcastle’s defensive, containing 5-4-1 shape had no immediate effect as Salah crashed in following Ciaran Clark’s poor clearing header.

But in Allan Saint-Maximin the visitors had the game’s most lively attacker and he carried a threat single-handedly for most of the match.

Joelinton then could, maybe should have equalised but Alisson kept out his effort before Wilson scrambled in at the second attempt. But the ball did hit his arm and VAR ruled it out.

Milner’s new record – the stats

  • After a run of eight defeats in 10 league games, Newcastle have lost just one of their past eight in the Premier League (W2 D5).
  • Despite conceding a 90th-minute equaliser, Liverpool extended their unbeaten home run against Newcastle in the Premier League to 25 games (W20).
  • Liverpool have kept just three home clean sheets in the Premier League this season, conceding at least once in each of their past eight at Anfield in the competition.
  • At 94 minutes and 58 seconds, Joe Willock’s equaliser for Newcastle was the latest goal Liverpool have conceded at Anfield in a Premier League game since exact goal times have been available (2006-07).
  • Newcastle’s Joe Willock became the first player to score a 90th-minute equalising or winning Premier League goal against Liverpool at Anfield since Harry Kane for Spurs in February 2018.
  • Mohamed Salah’s strike after two minutes and 59 seconds was Liverpool’s earliest home goal in a Premier League game since April 2019, when Naby Keita scored after 15 seconds against Huddersfield.
  • Liverpool’s James Milner made his 159th appearance as a substitute in the Premier League, overtaking Peter Crouch as the all-time record holder for sub appearances in the competition.

What’s next?

Liverpool have the small matter of a trip to Old Trafford next Sunday to take on Manchester United, while Newcastle welcome Arsenal on the same day.

Timo Werner scores at last as Chelsea beat West Ham

Timo Werner scores at last as Chelsea beat West Ham. Werner, who has struggled to make a significant impact since joining for £47m last summer, started and finished the move that settled a tightly-fought game.

Chelsea took a huge step towards securing a Champions League spot as Timo Werner’s first goal since February helped Thomas Tuchel’s side beat top-four rivals, West Ham. Germany forward fired home from Ben Chilwell’s cross after a well-worked move involving Christian Pulisic, Werner’s sixth Premier League goal since arriving from RB Leipzig.

West Ham struggled to create chances and finished the game with 10 men after Fabian Balbuena was shown a straight red card in the 81st minute after catching Chilwell’s leg with his follow-through while making a clearance.

Referee Chris Kavanagh watched a replay on the pitchside monitor before dismissing the Paraguay defender. The Hammers remain fifth in the table, three points behind Chelsea, after Liverpool’s failure to beat Newcastle earlier on Saturday.

In what was billed as a huge game in the race for the top four, West Ham were hoping to deliver a victory for the underdog at the end of a week when the so-called “big six” tried to break rank and join the European Super League.

David Moyes’ side have enjoyed a fine run of form to raise hopes they could secure a Champions League spot. However, they did not register an attempt on target until after half-time as Chelsea extended their unbeaten run away from home under Tuchel to 10 games in all competitions.

West Ham wanted a penalty when the game was goalless after Tomas Soucek‘s shot struck Cesar Azpilicueta in the torso before hitting his arm, while Werner missed a glorious chance to double the lead after Mason Mount’s shot was parried into his path but the striker screwed it wide.

Perfect start to a big week
This was the perfect start to a testing week for Tuchel’s men as they opened up a three-point cushion between fourth and fifth spot in the table.

Having gone from the high of beating Manchester City to book an FA Cup final appearance, they were held by lowly Brighton as their fans made their feelings clear outside Stamford Bridge about their club’s planned participation in the European Super League.

They put that flat performance behind them, Chelsea doing enough to secure the points against West Ham before Tuesday’s huge Champions League semi-final first leg away to record 13-time winners Real Madrid.

Werner has had his critics but he produced a big shift which he capped with a smart finish.

Even before his goal he was lively although he was fortunate his miss after Lukasz Fabianski palmed Mount’s attempt straight to him did not prove costly in the end.

Chelsea were ninth in the table when Tuchel took charge in January but the FA Cup finalists now have a clear advantage in the race to finish in the top four. Their success under the German boss has been based on strong defensive foundations and this was their 10th top-flight clean sheet in 14 games since Tuchel arrived.
