Police in Kenya has launched a manhunt for a 45-year-old man who has gone into hiding after r@ping his 90-year-old mother. The eldest son of the octogenarian met her struggling in pain while complaining of waist pains. Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations has issued a statement confirming the incident.

“She tearfully narrated her harrowing ordeal in the hands of her younger son Patrick Mumo, 45, who forced his way into her bedroom at around 8:00 pm as she slept and subjected her to the beastly act,” part of the statement said.

The elderly woman was rushed to Kisau Sub-county hospital in serious condition and is currently on admission. Doctors’ examination of the woman confirmed that she has indeed been r@ped.

Two Nigerian police officers have been caught on tape exchanging blows on the street while onlookers watched after a disagreement over a bribe.

In the video, some people who gathered around the scene tried to stop the officers from throwing punches at themselves all to no avail.

According to the news website, the woman claimed to have had surgery earlier this year to remove fibroids causing her painful cramps.

A woman who claimed to have been married for just a year and seven months is seeking advice on what to do as her husband and in-laws have ganged up to torment her for failing to give birth already.

But one year and seven months into the marriage and not having a child, her husband and his family are not being considerate with her at all.

“My husband said that I am not ashamed to be menstruating in his house every month yet I am married woman,” Mercy lamented. She said her attempt to report her husband’s mistreatment to his father [her father-in-law] elicited a rather disappointing response.

“By now you are supposed to have given me grandchildren into this family because children are the Joy and happiness of marriage,” Mercy quoted her father-in-law as having said to her.

She further bemoaned how her husband’s younger brother has refused to eat her food and chosen to remind her of her childlessness at the least opportunity.

She revealed that the brother-in-law has lost so much respect for her that he barges into her bedroom without first knocking, and even met her once almost n@ked.

Mercy who appears to have been fed up with the mental and emotional torture says: “I’m thinking of filing a divorce against him.” Her husband has made his brother his next of kin instead of her until she bears him a child.

Soldier beats up 2 nurses and breaks one’s leg in the process. The incident reportedly occurred on Friday, October 22, at Okelele Primary Health Centre in Nigeria’s Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.

A military man went berserk at the hospital where he took his pregnant wife for delivery and beat up two nurses, leaving one of them with a broken leg.

Reports say an altercation erupted after the nurses who had admitted the soldier’s wife asked him to buy delivery packs for the delivery process.

AfroGazette quoted a source as saying: “Instead of looking for the delivery packs, the soldier rejected the demand arguing that the state government has provided such items for pregnant women that might have come for their delivery at the hospital.

“But the nurse told the soldier that he misconstrued the information, therefore, he needed to provide the delivery packs for his wife to assist her to make use of the delivery packs for his wife’s delivery at the labour room. But, the statement got the soldier angry and beat the nurse to the extent that one of her legs was broken.”

The Kwara State chapter of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Alhaji Shehu Aminu confirmed the assault on the two nurses.

“The soldier became infuriated and headed to the doctor’s office and started beating the two nurses he met there. The soldier slapped one of the nurses who ran for her dear life while the other sustained ankle injury,” Alhaji Shehu Aminu said.

Meanwhile, the said soldier has been arrested and detained by the 22 Armoured Brigade of the Nigeria Army, Sobi Cantonment, Ilorin, Kwara State.

The Public Relations Officer of the 22 Armoured Brigade of the Nigeria Army Sobi Cantonment, Ilorin, St. Sgt Waziri confirmed his arrest. He said the errant soldier has been put in the guard room for interrogation.

According to insiders, the opposition leader, who last week escaped a suspected assassination attempt in Mutare, will descend on Hurungwe district, Mashonaland West province to drum up support ahead of the crucial 2023 harmonised elections.

MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa is Wednesday expected to plunge into the proverbial lion’s den as he takes his political campaigns to Mashonaland West, a traditional Zanu PF stronghold.

Sources told NewZimbabwe.com MDC Alliance provincial chairman, Ralph Magunje and his executive met at the party’s offices in Chinhoyi to make logistical arrangements ahead of the presidential hopeful’s visit.

“The president (Chamisa) will be in Mashonaland West starting Wednesday when he is expected to meet opinion leaders, including chiefs, in Hurungwe. I am not privy to the full itinerary, but he will tour specific rural constituencies and make brief stopovers along the journey,” an MDC Alliance official who requested anonymity said.

The opposition movement said it is wary of machinations to try and disrupt Chamisa’s tour as witnessed in Masvingo and Manicaland provinces. State security agents have been put on high alert ahead of the MDC Alliance president’s highly anticipated visit.

Sources said Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) operatives, military and police intelligence agents were heavily deployed in areas such as Nyabira and Banket, where Zanu PF activists are reportedly planning to cause drama. Zanu PF has reportedly mobilised supporters to doorstep Chamisa with anti-sanctions demands, among others.

President Mnangagwa happy about upcoming UK trip. The conference will be taking place in Glasgow, Scotland. It comes at a time political mayhem is building in the country. It also comes amid an acute economic crisis underlined by an askew exchange rate which has pushed the cost of living higher.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is elated by his pending trip to the United Kingdom to attend the 26th edition of the United Nations Climate Conference (COP 26) where he has not been able to set foot for a long time because of sanctions.

Prior to revealing plans of his trip on his Twitter account Tuesday, several war veterans were dragged to the Harare Central Police station after they had staged a demonstration at Africa Unit Square over the Mnangagwa’s failure to adequately incentivise them.

In a series of posts on his official Twitter handle Mnangagwa expressed elation keenness over the upcoming trip to the UK.

“I am eagerly looking forward to my first visit to the United Kingdom. COPS26 meeting of nations comes at an extraordinary time in world history. Many countries are battling the pandemic whilst having to undertake immense changes to our economies to meet climate goals,” Mnangagwa said.

Zimbabwe, according to Mnangagwa, has also been impacted with climate change with temperatures having risen by approximately two degrees over the past century.

The increase in extreme weather patterns exposed the government’s incompetence in the past two decades, as the administration failed to adequately deal with droughts and floods frequently experienced by the nation over the past few years.

“If the world does not step up, we will see jobs lost, livelihoods destroyed, and people will lose their lives. This is something we must avoid and why Zimbabwe is coming to the table with ambitious plans to tackle climate change,” he tweeted.

Zimbabwe has set its target to reduce emissions by 40 percent before 2030. Mnangagwa alluded to the need to hasten economic transformation while remaining alive to the shocks of drought and the impact of climate change through necessary social safety nets. He also added that he will extend the begging bowl at the COP 26 summit.

“I will be appealing for multilateral support to supplement our efforts. Zimbabwe has come a long way over the past three years, I hope our presence at COP 26 and our commitment to the global fight against climate change will be recognised as part of our ongoing re-engagement campaign.”

R@pist father to spent 18 years in jail. Regional magistrate, Ignatius Mugova suspended four years of the jail term on the condition the accused person does not commit a sexual offence within the next five years. Accused will, therefore, serve an effective 14 years in prison.

A Mhangura man, who was on the run after r@ping his 10-year-old daughter, has been sentenced to 18 years imprisonment. The 35-year-old man of North End farm, Mhangura is the biological father of the girl who is a Grade Three pupil at a local school.

The state case, led by Nyasha Sibesha was that on 2 May this year at around 8 pm the family finished having supper, and the accused instructed his wife (29) to retire for bed as she was not feeling well. After his wife had left for their bedroom, the accused person proceeded to a bedroom hut shared by his two daughters, aged 10 and six.

He then ordered the elder daughter to wash the cooking stick in the kitchen and she complied. After finishing the task, the girl returned to her bedroom where she found her father still waiting. Accused ordered her to follow him back to the kitchen hut and she complied.

Having managed to isolate his prey, the accused ordered his daughter to remove her underwear, but she refused. The accused person then forcefully removed the minor’s pants, pushed her to the ground before r@ping her while she screamed.

The girl’s mother, who was in her bedroom nearby, heard her daughter’s cries and rushed to investigate. She was shocked to find her husband committing the dastardly act. In a fit of rage, the screaming woman bashed her hubby using a mug.

Accused then pleaded with his wife to accept money so she conceals the crime, but the girl’s mother refused. He then fled the homestead after taking a poisonous substance threatening to commit suicide.

The girl’s mother reported the matter at Mhangura police station, and the child was referred to Makonde Christian Hospital, where a medical report confirmed the abuse. Accused was on the run since committing the offence, only to be arrested in Norton early August.

46-year-old man dies after being trembled inside a scotch cart by an elephant. The elephant reportedly charged at a scotch cart carrying members of the same family and pursued Isaya Tarusarira (46) whom it trampled to death.

A 46-year-old man was trampled to death by an elephant at Chekwite Reserve in Mkwasine, Chiredzi, on Monday last week. Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the case to The Mirror.

Sources told the publication that Tarusarira was attacked by the elephant while he was in the company of his wife Esther Tanyanyiwa (46) and their son. The Tarusarira family was coming from a church service in a neighbouring village when they came across a bull elephant that charged at them.

They disembarked from the scotch cart and ran in different directions. The wife and the son escaped while the elephant pursued Tarusarira. The duo reached home safely and at 8 pm a search part was conducted for the missing person who was found crushed to death and covered by tree branches.

Airtime vendors cry as RBZ restrict bulk airtime sales. Airtime vendors have lamented a proposal by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ)’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) to phase out physical bulk airtime recharge sales and put a cap on individual electronic purchases.

In a circular sent to mobile network operators dated 22 October 2021, FIU said the move is meant to curb the rampant abuse of the platforms by illicit currency speculators. FIU stated that going forward, airtime dealers and individuals will have to use electronic recharging as physical airtime sales are being reduced to 20 per cent and below.

The decision has sparked an outcry from bulk recharge voucher dealers and vendors who feel the proposal will cripple their business.

Airtime dealers who spoke to Chronicle in Bulawayo on Wednesday said the measures will cripple their business and affect many families who depend on the trade. Tinashe Samuel, who operates in the city centre, said:

Other business ventures are already saturated to the extent that if I start selling things like groceries, I will not get anything. Lots of jobless youths will be affected. A shop attendant at one of the airtime wholesalers who requested anonymity said:

If the Government goes ahead to ban airtime selling, then I will lose my job as I am employed here full time. Another vendor, Tapiwa Moyo, said that the Government was targeting “small fish” and leaving out big dealers who are involved in full scale illegal foreign currency trading and money laundering. Said Moyo:

Even if we sell airtime in forex, we don’t get much from that business. There are major players like forex dealers who spend the whole day in the streets holding bundles of money but nothing is done to them. Why are we being targeted?

He said the banning of airtime vouchers will affect many families especially the elderly people in rural areas where network connectivity is poor and some are not familiar with how to buy airtime using mobile money. In its circular to the country’s three telecommunications MNOs, Econet, Telecel and the State-owned NetOne, FIU said:

Mobile telecommunication service providers shall take steps to reduce the production and sale of bulk physical airtime recharge vouchers and promote the increased use of electronic airtime recharge, reduce sales of physical airtime recharge to 20 per cent of all airtime sales by 31 January 2022 and to 10 per cent by 30 April 2022.

I have approached the current many times, he has done nothing and has completely ignored me, citing reasons that his subordinate does not take instructions from him, who is the boss now???

If E.D.M wanted to help me, he would have done so, a long time ago because he knows there is no grain of truth in all these fabrications, he has put me out in the open to be terminated, he promised vehicles, security, accommodation since I am being denied access to my homes and all my bulletproof vehicles taken from me, money and all but Absolutely Nothing.

ZACC arrests 5 MDC Rusape Councillors. The councillors allegedly connived to pass a resolution to by-pass stipulated Government tender procedures, prejudicing the local authority of $1.3 million.

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has arrested five MDC-T Rusape councillors on criminal abuse of office charges. ZACC spokesperson Commissioner John Makamure confirmed the arrests made on Tuesday night on charges of criminal abuse of duty. He said:

We arrested the following ward 1 Cllr Patrick Chipere (51), ward 4 Cllr Elizabeth Chidza (43), ward 9 Cllr Luckson Zengeni (43), ward 3 Joseph Nyamupera (59) and ward 7 Cllr Ndabanengi Mataga (38).

The accused persons working in connivance passed a resolution to bypass the Procurement Act, the resolution was then used to handpick lawyers Mugiya and Muchadehama who then offered legal services worth $1 300 000 ignoring procurement thresholds and tendering process thereby showing favour to the handpicked lawyers.

Chronicle reported a source as saying that the house gift was supposed to be a surprise gift for the Mamelodi Sundowns team manager but Ndlovu’s refusal to attend the ceremony over a US$6 000 appearance fee meant that he missed out on the house.

Former Warriors captain Peter Ndlovu missed out on a US$120 000 house gift after demanding that he be paid to attend the unveiling of Sakunda Holdings’ sponsorship of Highlanders and Dynamos.

Said the source: Peter was invited well on time, but he insisted that he be paid for gracing the function. He wanted about US$6 000 in appearance fees.

The organisers wanted the house gift to be a surprise to him and hence could not let the cat out of the bag. Even Madinda went thinking he was just a guest, but his younger brother wanted more.

Report: ZANU PF activists disrupt MDC A press conference. The ZANU PF youths, who were led by Alex Gakanje, only left the premises after police officers threatened to arrest them. MDC Alliance co-vice-president Welshman Ncube said there was a need for respect for human rights to guarantee good international relations.

ZANU PF activists on Tuesday gathered at MDC Alliance vice-president Tendai Biti’s offices in Harare and disrupted the opposition party’s Press conference on its roadmap to end Zimbabwe’s international isolation. Said Ncube:

We are aware that Zimbabwe has lurched from crisis to crisis, a political crisis for a very long period of time — a crisis of legitimacy.

Over several decades now, we have had disputed elections after disputed elections, which arise because of the huge deficit in governance manifested mostly during elections.

There are issues to do with the capture of the law, which has reached unprecedented levels which we never reached during (the late former President Robert) Mugabe’s rule.

The violence which is taking place continuously and violation of basic rights established shows that all that is wrong with Zimbabwe.

The Government has blamed targeted sanctions imposed on the country’s ruling elite by western powers for perennial economic challenges, a charge that has been rejected by the United States of America and its allies.

Chief Musarurwa accused of attempting to r@pe 13-year-old girl. The Mirror established from its sources that the matter was reported at Chivhu Police Station in September this year under case number CR08/09/21.

Chief Musarurwa, born Enos Musakwa, from Chikomba District, in Mashonaland East Province, has been reported to the police on allegations of attempting to rape a 13-year-old girl from his area.

When contacted by The Mirror, the traditional leader initially said he was not aware of the alleged incident but later said he does not talk to the media on such issues.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi also said that he was not aware of the issue. But the father of the complainant who cannot be named for ethical reasons confirmed the case to The Mirror and pleaded for justice.

He alleged that Chief Musarurwa actually visited his home at night after realising that the matter had been reported to the police and tried to settle it privately.

On the attempted rape allegations against the chief, the father of the complainant who cannot be named for ethical reasons said Musarurwa visited the family in his official car on 9 August 2021.

They prepared him a meal and later gave him some groundnuts. On leaving, the chief asked to go with the girl as he wanted to send her to some homestead. Without suspecting anything the parents agreed but told the chief that the girl should come back early because she had some work to do at home.

The complainant’s father alleges that Musarurwa drove off and parked his car at a secluded place where he undressed the complainant and touched her private parts.

The chief only stopped after the girl cried out for help, said the father. Musarurwa then drove the girl back but dropped her off a distance from the homestead as she was crying.

The girl arrived home crying and told her story to the parents. The shocked parents followed the chief to his place but were told on arrival that he had already left for Manhize. Added the father: We were duped because we trusted and respected him as a Chief. No one can suspect that from a Chief.

When we reported the case to the police, he came here during the night and asked me what I want from him so that we can solve the matter amicably. I refused to negotiate with him because it is stupid to do so.

Drama as Larfage offers customer 17 bags of cement, yet they paid for 1 200. Morgan Mhlanga paid for 1 200 bags of cement at Larfage in October 2018 and then did not claim them for two years, during which time the currency changed.

A Harare man is suing Zimbabwe Stock Exchange-listed cement manufacturing company, Lafarge Cement after the company decided to give him a tiny fraction of the number of bags of cement he bought three years ago.

He paid US$13 136.43 into the cement maker’s Stanbic bank account for 60 tonnes of PC15 cement or 1 200 bags of cement in 50kg packaging.

But before Lafarge could deliver his cement, Mhlanga told the Harare High Court that his wife wrote to the company on 23 January 2019, instructing them not to release the cement to their building contractors because his building project had been put on hold.

When he finally claimed his cement on 13 August 2020, Larfage told him it owed him Z$15 136, enough to buy just 17 bags of cement down from the 1 200 bags that he paid for in USD in 2018. In a High Court filing this week, Mhlanga’s lawyers said:

The plaintiff could not accept nor collect the cement as this was not the quantity of cement that he had purchased from Lafarge and he immediately registered his disquiet.

The plaintiff has been protesting against this daylight robbery and has tried to engage Lafarge in discussions to reach an amicable settlement but the company has refused, failed and neglected to deliver the purchased product.

Mhlanga wants an order compelling Lafarge to release his 60 tonnes of cement within 48 hours of service, or alternatively refund his money. Lafarge is yet to respond.

In February 2018, the Government abandoned the 1:1 dollar peg for its dollar-surrogate bond notes and electronic dollars, resulting in massive losses to creditors.

Resultantly, several disputes from the dollarisation era have spilt into court after individuals and companies failed to settle U.S. dollar-denominated transactions in the currency after they too lost out during the currency switch.

At present, the exchange rate is one U.S. dollar for 97 Zimbabwe dollars at the interbank rate, but above 180 Zimbabwe dollars on the parallel market.

PSL announces gate fees for Chibuku Super Cup games. In a statement on Wednesday, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) said fans can access pre-match tickets from clubs that will be playing in the quarter-finals.

Football fans will fork out US$20 to be allowed entry into the Baobab Stadium in Mhondoro Ngezi on Saturday and Sunday to watch the Chibuku Super Cup quarter-finals. The US$20 ticket will be for the rest of the ground while the VIP fee is US$50 or equivalent at the interbank rate. Said the PSL

All the eight Chibuku Super Cup quarter-finalists will be allocated a maximum of 250 tickets each for pre-sale, with a breakdown as follows; 200 rest of ground and 50 VIP.

A club opting to buy less than 250 tickets will not be allowed to transfer its allocation to another club. Club officials will use their usual separate complimentary lists of 15 officials for entry.

The clubs are required to purchase/sell the match tickets and submit the detailed list of paid fans (in alphabetic order) before 13.00 on Friday 29 October 2021.

A club that chooses to sell match tickets shall be allocated the PSL swipe machines and Ecocash handsets to sell the tickets.

Recently the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) approved a maximum of 2 000 fully vaccinated fans to watch matches inside a stadium starting with the Chibuku Super Cup quarter-finals.

Chaos as fuel depot manager vanishes with US$38 000. Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tendai Mwanza confirmed the case to ZTN. He said: I can confirm receiving a report of theft in which a suspect known as Dingani Zhou was employed by Puma service station is believed to have vanished with more than 38 thousand USD.

A depot manager with Puma Energy in Harare is on the run after he allegedly broke into a company safe and took US$38 000 before vanishing.

ZTN reported sources as saying Zhou also went away with a yet to be quantified amount of money he had collected from other fuel dealers. Said the source:

There are a lot of people who lost their money to Dingani. He even gave other dealers his personal account where money was deposited on the pretext that he would deliver fuel to those dealers but he vanished.

The crime only came to light on Thursday last week when the suspect did not report for duty, prompting the company to make a police report.

Zhou was running the Puma Kuwadzana depot as the manager and would also get money from other registered dealers for fuel deliveries. Inspector Mwanza requested members of the public to assist police with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect.

Leonard Dembo poised for national hero status. The Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts, and Recreation will soon send a proposal to the Government to consider conferring Dembo the national hero status. Sungura music legend Leonard Dembo who died in 1996 could be conferred with national hero status.

This was said by Midlands Provincial Arts and Culture Development Promotions Administrator, Shackson Reward at the 25th anniversary and tombstone unveiling of the late Dembo at his graveside at Chaka in Chirumanzu on Saturday. Said Reward:

We will soon hold a meeting over this issue and the Second Republic under President Mnangagwa is definitely going to look at how to accord Dembo some national honour.

Dembo’s music speaks volumes of his contribution to the culture of our country. He placed Zimbabwe on the map and his hit song Chiteketete was played at the Miss World pageant in Windhoek in Namibia in 1996.

Dembo will become the second musician to be declared a national hero after Oliver Mtukudzi if the Government accepts the proposal. Besides Mtukudzi, several other musicians have been honoured by the Government, albeit, with lower hero status.

Simon Chimbetu, Dickson “Chinx” Chingaira and Zimdancehall chanter Saul Musaka aka Soul Jah Love were all declared provincial heroes. However, unlike the others, Chingaira is the only one who participated in the liberation struggle when he joined the war in Mozambique.

Dembo’s most well-known releases include Chitekete (1991), Tinokumbira Kurarama (1992), Mazano (1993), Nzungu Ndamenya (1994) and Babamunini (1996). He died at the age of 37 on 9 April 1996, at the Avenues Clinic in Harare. He was laid to rest at his rural home in Chaka on 10 April.
