Iraq’s Prime Minister survives an assassination attempt. The incident raises tension in the country weeks after a general election disputed by Iran-backed militia groups.  Iraq’s Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi has survived an assassination attempt after drones laden with explosives targeted his residence in the capital, Baghdad.

Al-Kadhimi escaped unhurt, but security sources told Reuters news agency that at least six members of the prime minister’s personal protection force were wounded in Sunday’s attack.

Interior Ministry spokesman Saad Maan told state television al-Iraqiya that security forces in the area shot down two drones while the third managed to hit al-Kadhimi’s residence in Baghdad’s Green Zone, which houses government buildings and foreign embassies. He added without giving details:

Al-Kadhimi was not harmed, while some people in the house suffered injuries. They are receiving treatment,” the official added without giving details.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for Sunday’s attack. Al-Kadhimi appealed for calm and restraint in a post on Twitter saying: “I’m doing fine, praise be to God, and I call for calm and restraint on the part of everyone for the good of Iraq.”

He later appeared on Iraqi television where he said rocket and drone attacks don’t build homelands and don’t build a future. Iraqi President Barham Salih called the attack a “terrorist aggression” and a “heinous crime” against Iraq.

Robber steals AK-47 rifle belonging to a member of the President’s Department. The 33-year-old Obey Mhuru from Gutu was arrested after he was hit by a car by a man he had threatened to shoot in the Vhembe View suburb on 22 October.

A Masvingo man was recently arrested in Beitbridge after allegedly breaking into two houses where he stole goods among them an AK-47 rifle belonging to a member of the President’s Department.

He appeared in court on Friday and his case was postponed to 19 November to allow him to get medical attention at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare. He has been charged with two counts of unlawful entry.

Ms Fezile Mpofu who was representing the state told the court that Mhuru broke into a cottage in Benne Knot Street on 7 September evening and stole a Samsung J7 smartphone, cash R1 000 and US$70.

On the following day at around, Mhuru went to a house belonging to the President’s Department while the occupants were away and stole an AK-47 rifle (shot butt) and a magazine with 30 rounds.

Both offences were discovered on 9 September and were reported to the police. Mhuru was arrested early on 22 October at another house in Hill-Clause in the same suburb after being hit by a car as he attempted to attack one of the occupants using the stolen AK47 rifle.

The rifle was subsequently recovered loaded with 19 rounds and the accused opened up to investigators during interrogations that he had stolen the firearm from a house at Benne Knot Street.

Schools on course to accomplish their syllabus requirements

Schools on course to accomplish their syllabus requirements. She added that most learners are ready to sit for their final exams despite numerous disruptions during an academic year that was severely affected by COVID-19.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Mrs Tumisang Thabela, has said schools were on course to accomplish their syllabus requirements. Zimsec examinations are scheduled to start on 22 November for O- Level candidates, while the A-Level and Grade 7 examinations will commence on 29 November.

Mrs Thabela said assessments made over the past few weeks had revealed that while catching up with the syllabus was a challenge, schools around the country were now generally ready for exams.

Speaking on the sidelines of a ceremony to award Gloag High School of Bubi District, Matabeleland North with the Secretary’s Bell Award for 2018, Mrs Tumisang Thabela said:

We are checking with the children, their readiness for exams and generally they are excited and ready to move on with their lives. In terms of continual assessment, in all schools that we went to, they had done their first two activities and they are waiting for the last one.

Mrs Thabela said the ministry had been looking at possible remedies to ensure that schools in the Matabeleland region register better results, not a zero-pass rate attained by several schools during last year’s exams.

She said the best sollution was to fully implement the competency-based curriculum and fully implement assessment of learners to fully understand the child’s potential.

Critics say while Continuous Assessment Learning Activities (CALA) are a noble idea, their implementation was ill-timed as they are now putting learners and teachers under immense pressure.

Zimbabwe considering using another currency

Zimbabwe considering using another currency. Speaking at a Computer Society of Zimbabwe (CSZ) information communication technologies (ICT) Summit that ended in Victoria Falls yesterday, Permanent Secretary and Head of e-government Technology Unit in the Office of the President and Cabinet Brigadier General (Retired) Charles Wekwete said consultations with the private sector are underway.

Zimbabwe is considering options of adopting cryptocurrency as a legal payment service and is consulting various stakeholders on the merits of the virtual currency. A cryptocurrency is a medium of exchange, such as the US dollar, but is digital and uses encryption techniques to control the creation of monetary units and to verify the transfer of funds, for example, Bitcoin.

Brig Gen Wekwete said many governments around the world are still not very clear on cryptocurrencies. Said Brig-Gen Wekwete:

Governments are still trying to understand and properly trying to create policies on how to deal with it. In our case, initially we were trying to understand their implication because they are a fundamental departure from previously known financial instruments and there are a lot of fears about cross border movement of funds, money laundering, externalization of funds and illicit flow of funds to fund illicit issues.

So Government has put in place mechanism to try and gather views from various sectors of society in order to eventually formulate policies. There have been pronouncements by Minister of Finance and Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe and it’s such as complex area. Sooner or later Government will make statements but we have not gotten there yet, the consultative process is already underway.

He invited private sector players who have ideas on how best the facility can be handled to make representations to Government.

CSZ president Mr Allen Saruchera said there were many opportunities that are in the cryptocurrency like blockchain and delivery of services adding that security measures need to be put in place first.

Headmasters to get allowances based on school grade

Headmasters to get allowances based on school grade. The ranks will be determined by the number of learners at the school.  The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Mrs Tumisang Thabela, has said school heads will get allowances that will be determined by the grade of their schools.

She made the remarks on the sidelines of a ceremony to award Gloag High School of Bubi District, Matabeleland North with the Secretary’s Bell Award for 2018. Mrs Tumisang Thabela said: What has happened is that schools are now classified according to their size. So, we now have what we call a Grade

One or large school which will be headed by somebody who we will call a Head One, deputised by two deputies because it’s a mega school which attracts a second deputy head. This is for 2 000 learners and more. The head will get an allowance of 25 per cent of their basic salary for heading that school.

Then the school that is in Grade Two will have between 800 and 1 999 learners. It will be headed by a Head Grade Two and a one deputy head. They will get 20 per cent of their basic salary as an allowance. Then the small school, which has been 141 and 799 learners.

Those ones will get 15 per cent of their basic salary. So, in this case, it is the school that is graded and not the head. The head takes the grade of the school and should they move to a lower graded school, they don’t carry their grade..

This happens at the backdrop of teachers’ displeasure over poor salaries. They have in the past two years embarked on periodic protests to compel the government to restore their 2018 salaries that were over US$500 on average.

Over 300 arrested as police conduct operation ‘Nyama Yabvepi’. The ZRP has intensified an operation code-named ‘Nyama Yabvepi’, targeting stock theft and other related offences.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested over three people as the force intensifies an operation code-named Nyama Yabvepi [where did the meat come from.] Pindula News presents the police statement that notified of the arrests.

On 05/11/21, 318 arrests were made and of these, 8 were for stock theft while 310 were for other offences. The operation is intensified when cases of stock theft have been rising lately. In another update, police said some cattle stolen from Botswana were recovered from Gwanda. Said the police:

Police in Tuli are investigating a case of stock theft where 15 cattle stolen from Botswana, were recovered at Ngoma Village, Gwanda. On 04/11/21, two complainants tracking the spoor of their cattle from the neighbouring country approached ZRP Nhwali Base, leading to the recovery of the cattle in a fenced field belonging to the suspect Sakile Sibanda.

Meanwhile, Police are seeking the whereabouts of the suspect. Two months ago, Botswana’s presidency ordered an official inquiry into livestock theft on that country’s border with Zimbabwe.

The nine-member commission was established to conduct an inquiry in Bobirwa constituency, across the Tuli River in Matabeleland South which for several kilometres serves as the border between the two countries.

Bank Manager and workmate steal US$44 000 from a vault. Stanly Makokowe (40) of Low Density, Chipinge and Tarisai Shora (28) of 2 Moddie Street Chipinge appeared before Chipinge magistrate Elizabeth Hanzi on Monday charged with fraud.

People’s Own Savings Bank (POSB) supervisor and a workmate have been dragged to court for allegedly stealing US$44 112. Prosecutor Timothy Katsande told the court that the two connived and hatched a plan to steal from their employer.

According to the outline given in the court attended by Chipinge Times, on October 29 at 12pm, Makokowe and Shora were at work and they intercepted the camera footing images of the vault area. They opened an unlocked vault and took US$ 44 112 from the safe. They then locked the safe and the vault.

Katsande told the court that the two wrapped the money in a khaki envelope and put it in a black bag. The two hid the bag in the teller’s area. On the same day, Makokowe reported that he lost keys to the vault and safe.

He was given a duplicate key. When they opened the safe, they discovered that some money was missing. A Police report was made leading to the arrest of the two. The two are out of custody on RTGS$5 000 bail. They will appear again in court on November 15 for 2021.

Nelson Chamisa evades roadblocks to penetrate ZANU PF stronghold

Nelson Chamisa evades roadblocks to penetrate ZANU PF stronghold. At some point, Chamisa is said to have used a motorbike to travel to Mbire to evade his adversaries.

Opposition MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa last week evaded roadblocks, mounted by suspected ZANU PF supporters and state security agents, to meet his party’s supporters in the ruling party’s stronghold of Mashonaland Central province.

According to MDC Alliance officials, state security agents and some Zanu PF supporters were trailing Chamisa’s convoy and the opposition leader was forced to abandon it. Chamisa Saturday refused to comment on how he reached Mbire saying: “It’s a security issue, I cannot discuss that.”

His entry into the province reportedly caused friction in the ruling party with the Home Affairs Minister, Kazembe Kazembe, accused of allowing Chamisa safe passage into the province.

Chamisa, a former ICT Minister, told MDC Alliance supporters to prepare for the 2023 elections. We are imploring you to vote for regime change. May the youth, churches, business community, village heads and everyone know that it is now time for regime change.

Very soon we will make Zimbabwe work. He promised party supporters that the MDC Alliance would soon adopt a new name after the Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC-T’s threats to use MDC Alliance in future elections.

Chamisa was accompanied by his deputy Tendai Biti and several senior party leaders. The MDC Alliance leader has visited Masvingo, Mashonaland West and Manicaland where ZANU PF youths and suspected state security agents have tried to stop the meetings.

President Chakwera given a 7-day ultimatum to fix Malawi Economy or step down

President Chakwera given a 7-day ultimatum to fix Malawi Economy or step down. The grouping hinted that the Office of the Cabinet and President should respond to their concerns regarding social-economic challenges Malawians are going through.

Malawi citizens under the banner ‘Social Revolution Movement’ on Friday, November 5, 2021, gave President Lazarus Chakwera seven days to immediately address economic problems facing the country or step down.

The demonstrations which were endorsed by the Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) started from Lilongwe Community Ground. They were under the theme “Reclaiming a better Malawi.”

Speaking after the demonstrations, Movement leader, Phunziro Mvula, said they will hold mass demonstrations if their grievances will not be answered.

Mvula added that they want the office to address the rise in the cost of living due to heavy taxes and levies and the newly imposed Value Added Tax (VAT) on banking services. He further said that government should also fulfil its promise of creating jobs and also uplifting local farmers.

We want our government to condemn corrupt activities by Malawians of Asian origin and to stop offering jobs to retired personal at the expenses of young and vibrant youthful professionals. They should address its failure and uplift health and education services.

We also protested against failure by government in the fight against corruption as evident by the abuse of MK6.2 billion and the issue of creation of new constituencies which will just put another burden on our already frail and fragile economy should be addressed.

The group also wants Chakwera and his administration to address the issue of cabinet and unwanted presidential advisors. Lilongwe City Council (LCC) Deputy Director Administration Hudson Kumphanga received the petition, therefore, assuring the group that their concerns will be sent to the office of the president and cabinet as soon as possible.

Chakwera pledged, in his preelection campaign, to address issues bedevilling the country but observers say the issues continue unabated.

Mapostori: We won’t take COVID-19 vaccine, We are protected by prayers

Mapostori: We won’t take COVID-19 vaccine, We are protected by prayers. With millions of followers across southern Africa, the church’s stance could undermine Zimbabwe’s attempts to vaccinate 60% of the population by December.  Some of the “white garment” churches are refusing to encourage congregations to get vaccinated against COVID-19 saying they are protested by prayers.

Says a 38-year-old Gramaridge Musendekwa, of the Vadzidzi Apostolic church: We believe in God, and science is entirely subject to God’s will. I grew up on my parents’ prayers and I am passing it down to my children. My family will not take the vaccine because we are protected by prayers.

I believe we should not be forced to get vaccinated. For us who grew up without medicine, vaccinations are an insult to our faith and religion. Surely the authorities can achieve whatever they want to do without involving us. Miriam Mushayabasa, 34, a mother-of-three, and a member of St Peters Apostolic church in Harare believes she does not need a vaccine. She said:

Our preacher gave us a clear instruction that if we use these little stones and holy water, he prayed for, nothing will happen to our families. Since Covid-19 began last March, my family and I have never suffered from this disease, we are as strong as ever.

My children are strong, so I have no cause to fear. I have always believed in prayers and this is how I choose to go through this pandemic. While the government mandates only the vaccinated can attend religious services, it is tough to enforce in the Apostolic churches, who meet outdoors on hilltops and in fields.

Zimbabwe’s vaccination programme has inoculated 15% of the population since it began in February. It is one of 15 African countries to have achieved the World Health Organisation target of 10% of citizens by September.

Minister of Lands bemoans rampant corruption by his ministry officials

Lands Minister, Anxious Masuka has admitted there is rampant corruption among ministry officials, who parcel out farms after receiving bribes. He said the lands department had become a haven of corruption where criminal cartels of officers, demanded bribes for land allocations.

Masuka was addressing senior lands officers in Gweru at a meeting on land distribution and management. Over 250 000 people are on the waiting list for land. Masuka told the land officers:

The Lands department now has a bad reputation. The department has degenerated into a haven of corruption activities as officers demand kickbacks in land allocations and that is very bad. We need to clean that image now by doing the right things in a professional manner.

There are land officers whose offices are entered only by those with something in their pockets. Something for something and nothing for nothing, and that is corruption in land allocation. Corruption, corrupt activities must stop henceforth.

As a civil servant, I think you should strive to leave a lasting legacy in the area of operation. Now we have land officers who set targets, for example, to have two Mercedes Benz vehicles in two years from corruption, which is wrong.

He added Zimbabweans based in the Diaspora, who want to invest in land back home, were the main targets of the cartels.

Masuka said he was receiving phone calls from land seekers, who reveal to him their schedule number, which should be confidential details only known by land officers.  Masuka said land was an economic enabler that must be allocated to deserving people for the agriculture sector to contribute to the growth of the country’s economy.

Nakamba’s Aston Villa fire coach Dean Smith

Nakamba’s Aston Villa fire coach Dean Smith. Dean Smith, 50, leaves following Villa’s 1-0 defeat by Southampton on Friday, the club’s fifth successive defeat in the Premier League. Villa are 17th in the league, two points above the relegation zone. Aston Villa has sacked manager Dean Smith after three years in charge.

“This year we have not seen the continuous improvement in results, performances and league position which we have all been looking for,” Villa chief executive Christian Purslow said. “For this reason we have decided to make a change now to allow time for a new head coach to make an impact.”

Villa say the process to replace Smith has started but they will not rush into an immediate appointment – however, it is understood that Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand is a name of interest to the club and is admired by fellow countryman, Villa’s sporting director Johan Lange.

Hjulmand guided Denmark to the Euro 2020 semi-final, when they lost to England at Wembley, and the 49-year-old has a growing reputation. Other names are also under consideration, with Villa using the time afforded to them by the international break to home in on Smith’s successor.

Smith becomes fifth Premier League manager to lose job
Smith was appointed Villa manager in October 2018, guiding them to promotion from the Championship in his first season in charge.

Though they struggled in their first season in the top flight, narrowly avoiding relegation, Smith led the club to the 2019-20 Carabao Cup final.

The 2020-21 season saw Villa achieve an 11th-place finish in the Premier League, but after the departure of star player Jack Grealish to Manchester City in the summer, results started to slip.

The club have not won since they defeated Manchester United on 25 September, picking up just 10 points from the first 11 games of the season.

It is their worst losing run since January to February 2017 in the Championship. Smith leaves the club having won 28 of his 87 Premier League games in charge (32.2%) and with an overall win rate of 39.6% from his 139 games.

Smith is the fifth managerial change in the top flight this season with Tottenham sacking Nuno Espirito Santo on Monday and Norwich dismissing Daniel Farke late on Saturday. Watford sacked Xisco Munoz in October, while Steve Bruce left his role as Newcastle manager by mutual consent on 20 October.

There were just four managerial changes in the whole of last season. “The board would like to sincerely thank Dean for his many excellent achievements, on and off the pitch, during this time,” added Purslow.

“Everyone knows how much Aston Villa means to Dean and his family. He has represented the club with distinction and dignity – universally liked and respected by everybody associated with Aston Villa.”

Captain Aubamayeng missed a penalty as Arsenal beat Watford 1 – 0

Aubamayeng missed a penalty as Arsenal beat Watford 1 – 0. The in-form Smith Rowe registered the 100th league goal of Arteta’s tenure with a low drive from outside the box after 56 minutes.

Emile Smith Rowe scored in a third successive Premier League game as Arsenal claimed victory over Watford in manager Mikel Arteta’s 100th match in charge.

Gunners captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had a first-half penalty saved by Ben Foster following a poor challenge by Danny Rose on Alexandre Lacazette – and the Hornets goalkeeper produced another fine stop to keep out Gabriel’s header shortly before half-time.

Watford were fired an early warning when Bukayo Saka had an eighth-minute finish ruled out for offside at Emirates Stadium.

The Hornets’ first attempt did not arrive until the 40th minute when Juraj Kucka’s shot was deflected wide and Rose was unable to add the finishing touch from the resulting corner.

Joshua King squandered the chance to earn a point, shooting into the side-netting after rounding Aaron Ramsdale, and the visitors‘ afternoon was made worse as Kucka was dismissed for a second yellow card late on.

A sixth victory in eight Premier League games moved Arsenal up to fifth, level on points with fourth-placed West Ham, while Watford remain two points above the relegation places.

Antonio Conte draws his first game as Tottenham coach against Everton

Antonio Conte draws his first game as Tottenham coach against Everton. Conte has only had a few days to work with his players and kicked off his tenure with a 3-2 win over Vitesse in the Europa Conference League on Thursday, but this was a real gauge of the task at hand for the Italian.

Antonio Conte’s first Premier League game in charge of Tottenham ended in a goalless draw against Everton at Goodison Park.

Tottenham had gone more than three hours in the league without a shot on target but substitute Giovani lo Celso almost got Conte off to a winning start in the league when he curled an effort against the post with two minutes to go.

This was also a much improved Everton from recent weeks, although Rafael Benitez’s side, without a win in the top flight since September, had Mason Holgate dismissed late on for a high follow-through.

The hosts thought they had been handed a golden chance to break the deadlock when Chris Kavanagh awarded a penalty in the second half, only for the referee to overturn the decision after consulting the pitch-side monitor.

Richarlison appeared to beat Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to the ball and was brought down in the area but Kavanagh deemed that the Frenchman had got a fingertip to the ball.

Leicester City 1 – 1 Leeds United. Ademola Lookman thought he had poked home the winner midway through the second period, but was standing in an offside position when Jamie Vardy had flicked on a Youri Tielemans corner. VAR ruled out a second-half Leicester goal as the Foxes shared the points with Leeds in an entertaining Premier League game at Elland Road.

Leeds forward Raphinha had put his side deservedly in front in the 26th minute when his free-kick from out wide caught out Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel at his far post. But Leicester responded seconds after the resulting kick-off with Barnes curling a stunner into the top corner from a tight angle.

Both sides had chances to win the game late on as Marcelo Bielsa’s team moved three points clear of the relegation zone, while Leicester stayed 12th.

Leicester have now gone four games without a win, leaving Brendon Rodgers’ side as far behind from West Ham in fourth as they are above Aston Villa in 17th. They were fortunate not to have been at least a goal down at half-time with Leeds unable to convert the numerous first-half chances they created.

Leicester’s defending has been suspect on occasion this season; indeed this result ends a run of five straight league games where the Foxes have conceded at least twice. But in attack they continued to look dangerous with Tielemans and defender Caglar Soyuncu going close to finding a winner in the second period.

Raphinha shows rare quality
Brazilian Raphinha continues to be a bright spark in a dim period for Leeds United. The forward’s fifth strike of the season means he has now scored more than 45% of Leeds’ goals in the league this campaign.

Leeds boss Bielsa will be wishing the rest of his forwards were as prolific. Winger Jack Harrison was unable to bundle home a corner from two yards out in the second half, a chance which looked easier to score than to miss.

Daniel James and Rodrigo also had late opportunities, both snatching at their chances, while the Whites had a penalty shout turned down after the ball appeared to strike Leicester defender Daniel Amartey on the arm in injury time.

Leeds have won just one of their past five matches and been victorious just once at home this season.

West Ham ends Liverpool’s unbeaten run by defeating them 3 – 2

West Ham ends Liverpool’s unbeaten run by defeating them 3 – 2 Liverpool went into this game looking to set a new club record of 26 league games unbeaten, as well as get a win that would move them up to second and within a point of leaders Chelsea.

West Ham stunned Liverpool as they secured a huge victory that moved them above their opponents into third in the Premier League and dented the Reds’ title hopes.

But they fell behind early on when Alisson, under pressure from Angelo Ogbonna, flapped at Pablo Fornals’ corner and succeeded only in helping the ball into his own goal.

Both sides were then fortunate not to be reduced to 10 men in a scrappy first half, with Aaron Cresswell catching Jordan Henderson with a heavy challenge before Ogbonna was hit in the face by a stray Diogo Jota elbow that resulted in the West Ham defender having to be substituted.

But a moment of quality four minutes before half-time brought Liverpool level when Trent Alexander-Arnold curled home a stunning strike after playing a short free-kick to Mohamed Salah.

Craig Dawson hit the woodwork with a header from a corner for West Ham after the break before Lukasz Fabianski superbly kept out Sadio Mane’s fierce volley from close range. But West Ham regained the lead midway through the second half when Fornals was slipped through on goal and Alisson was unable to keep out his low shot.

That goal led to the London Stadium exploding into deafening noise, which became even louder when Kurt Zouma headed in a corner minutes later. Divock Origi swept in a second on the turn to give Liverpool hope of rescuing something, but West Ham kept their nerve to take the three points.

The Hammers are third, level on 23 points with second-place Manchester City and three points behind leaders Chelsea. Liverpool, meanwhile, drop to fourth on 22 points. It has been a week of mixed emotions for Liverpool fans, with the high of an eye-catching 2-0 win against Atletico Madrid that secured progression to the Champions League knockout phase in midweek, sandwiched between two disappointing Premier League results.

The Reds let slip a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 at home to Brighton last Saturday and the trip to West Ham offered the chance for Jurgen Klopp’s side to quickly get their title challenge back on track.

They went into the game on the back of a long unbeaten league run and free-scoring record away from home, having scored at least three goals in each of their five away games in the Premier League prior to the trip to West Ham.

This was a strange game in that they could easily have maintained that record as they scored two goals of real quality, while Mane really should have got a third in the dying seconds with a header that went just wide.

But defensively they were disappointing. While there were question marks over how much Alisson was impeded for the opener the Brazil goalkeeper should really have done better with West Ham’s second, but he allowed Fornals’ shot to creep past him.

That prompted a period in which West Ham broke their lines on a number of occasions as Liverpool struggled to cope with the hosts’ excellent counter-attacking. It was a disappointing result for the Reds, but they will at least accept they were beaten by genuine rivals for the top four.

Man arrested for marrying his daughter 20 years after abandoning. The Daily Star reported that Travis Fieldgrove started a relationship with Kershner who was 20 when they started dating. An American man has been jailed for having s.e.x with his 20-year-old wife who was also the daughter he abandoned shortly after she was born.

When the law finally caught up with them, the dad, from St Paul in Nebraska, was sentenced to the state’s maximum of two years in jail.

The pair’s twisted relationship began three years after dad Travis first met Samantha. Nebraska TV reported that a year later, Travis received another two years for the same crime, attempted incest. Kershner was handed 22 days in jail.

When Kershner was born in 2000, her dad left to start a new life with a new partner. When she turned 17, he came back.

Three years later, they started having a s.e.xual relationship with one another. The authorities first got involved when Fieldgrove’s ex went to them to make claims about the illicit relationship.

Travis Fieldgrove

Investigators started looking into the allegations and quickly discovered that the pair had been bragging about their life together on Facebook. Shortly after police became involved, Fieldgrove and Kershner got married.

Cops said Samantha’s s.e.xual desire for her dad “stemmed from a jealous competition with her half-sister regarding who could have s.e.x with their father.” At first, the pair denied that they were related, but a DNA test found there was a 99.999% chance Travis was her dad.

Govt: Vaccinated and unvaccinated congregants can attend church services

Govt: Vaccinated and unvaccinated congregants can attend church services. It had announced in August that only fully vaccinated congregants could participate during in-person services.

The government reconsidered its position on the attendance of church services saying that both the vaccinated and unvaccinated can attend church services.  Representatives of the Zimbabwe Council of Churches, the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference, the Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe, and the Union for Development of Apostolic and Zionist Churches in Zimbabwe Africa then engaged the government on the matter.

They argued that the directive was difficult to implement because, theologically and practically, the church is an open and welcoming space for everyone.

The government heard decided that, as of September 12, both unvaccinated and fully vaccinated congregants could worship together. Some celebrated the decision, while others expressed concern about the change.

Peter Musuka, a general practitioner, a member of Chisipiti United Methodist Church, and a survivor of the virus, expressed concern about the decision to allow vaccinated and unvaccinated congregations to worship together. He said:

I do not know how wise it is. Vaccines cause the body to develop immunity-based resistance to further infections and no serious development of the disease that may lead to subsequent hospitalisation. Zimbabwe needs to vaccinate 10 million people to reach the targeted herd immunity (66% of the adult population).
