Media personality Bonang Matheba seems to have something up her sleeves for her House of BNG fans. Bonang recently jetted off to Cape Town to seemingly shoot something very exciting and took to her Instagram stories to share moments that certainly piqued interest levels. She didn’t stop there. She also posted on her Instagram page a picture that had her cousin DJ, Pinky Girl, looking very dolled up.

Bonang, in her caption, simply wrote a date, 14 February 2022, which happens to be Valentine’s Day. She also added #BNGLovesYou #HouseofBNG, a sign that whatever she is working on has to do with her famed sparkling wine. One follower commented “Bona! I am sending the money. Don’t Care if Peter is up or down. Let me go pawn my car.

Interestingly, Bonang did not tag House of BNG’s Instagram account, and considering all the controversy surrounding the brand, fans can’t help but wonder. In case you may have missed it or forgotten, Bonang and her former management agency are currently locked in a legal battle around the ownership of the MCC MCC and sparkling wine brand House of BNG.

When Bonang announced the termination of her contract with CSA Global, it was revealed that there was a battle over who exactly owns House of BNG. CSA refuted claims by Bonang to IOL Entertainment that she brought House of BNG with her to the agency.

Tendai Biti says Governor Mangudya is a fool

Tendai Biti says Governor Mangudya is a fool. Former finance minister Tendai Biti said this in a scathing attack on Mangudya’s ‘shallow’ monetary policy statement issued Monday during an interview at New Zim TV’s premier weekly show, The Agenda. Mangudya, in the monetary policy statement, claimed he was doing enough to bring the country’s inflation rate to 35% by year-end.

Biti has described the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor as a fool, saying his monetary policies are insufficient to tame inflation. But Biti dismissed those claims saying if anything, inflation will keep rocketing. He predicted that at the rate at which inflation is hitting the economy, the exchange rate will by December hit a high of US$1: ZW$1 000.

Biti said President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his administration were practising feja feja economics, a slang for uncoordinated and disorderly financial management. He also invented the word ginyanomics to describe the sort of economics practised by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government.

Biti also lay into Finance and Economic Development minister Mthuli Ncube’s decision to maintain the Zimbabwe Dollar as the country’s main currency at a time it is steadily losing value and fuelling inflation. “My suspicion is that the exchange rate will by August stand at US$1 to ZW$400, which is a lot of depreciation,” Biti said.

“Very soon the parallel rate will be at US$1 to ZW$500 but they are afraid of that especially in a year before elections, so what they are doing is squeezing the tap for the RTGS dollar by withdrawal limits and closely monitoring corporates’ current accounts to ensure there is no movements to fuel Fourth Street (illegal exchange rate market). To be very crude by end of year we will be very close to US$1 to ZW$1000, it is back to 2008.”

The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) vice president said Mangudya’s MPS was based on Ncube’s flawed assertions that the country was on the mend yet by pointing to local currency indices that did not reflect on the ordinary citizen.

“The elephant in the living room is the dual economy that Zimbabwe has, Mthuli is pretending to administer a certain economy, prescribe solutions to a certain economy but the rest of us are in another reality, his is a reality distoted field, a false field,” said Biti.

“There is a US dollar economy where most of us live in, where shops will not accept anything other than the US dollar, where school fees is paid in US dollars, where fuel is paid for in US dollars, where rentals are in US dollars, where houses are sold in US and that is the bulk of the economy. Mangudya and Ncube are in this artificial world of this Zimbabwe dollar economy so when he pronounces the monetary policy he is pronouncing it for this small non-existent economy which is controlled by cartels,” he said.

“Those who are saying inflation has gone down need to be asked the economy they are measuring, will they be measuring the cash US dollar economy or the artificial, false non-existent Zim dollar economy. It is a cantankerous economy, someone once called it a casino economy but there are rules in a casino…this is a sewer, in a sewer you cannot measure the extent of the stench, you cannot measure the extent of the flow. It is a dog’s breakfast but one which many dogs will not touch by a long mile.”

Ncube scrapped use of the US dollar as the country’s main currency in 2018, reintroducing the Zimbabwe dollar against advice from economic experts including Biti. They highlighted the lack of fundamentals that support a local currency and predicted it would lose value.

Biti suggested Ncube should abolish the foreign currency exchange floor and avert an impending disaster akin to the 2008 crisis by dollarising.

“Dollarise but retain the Zimbabwe dollar, abolish the auction floor so it finds its natural mark in the market. They dedollarised when the fundamentals were not in place. There is no country that involuntarily dollarised which has been able to dedollarise because it is a confidence thing…what you can do is you dollarise, bring your currency so it serves as change, as a transactional instrument not as a storer of value, value continues being kept by the hard currency. If Mangudya thinks he can do it, then he is a fool,” he said.

“It is a confidence thing, we do not have confidence in Mnangagwa and that man with a high propensity to lie Ncube.” Biti suggested a return to what he termed the “We eat what we kill” principle of strict cash budgeting if Zinbabwe was to get back on its feet.

He also argued Zimbabwe has enough US dollar reserves to use the currency as its main tender, highliting that government had also resigned to charging services in the American dollar.

“I always argue Ginyanomics do not work…there will be an implosion. Every tax is now in US dollars, even number plates are in US dollars, passports are in US dollars, so they are completely dishonest people, they are completely mendacious people, they are necrophilia, it is a disaster.”

Biti told New Zim TV Ncube had no surplus to talk about as it was being calculated in the local currency while parliament had gone on to assume a ZW$3,4 billion debt from the central bank despite the surplus. Biti was finance minister during the Government of National Unity (GNU) between 2009 and 2013.

Kganyago was an ambassador of Bathu sneakers along with Somizi and Khanyi Mbau and many others.

A local publication has revealed that radio and TV personality Lerato Kganyo has sent Bathu a letter demanding R315k from Theo Baloyi’s sneaker brand Bathu.

Kganyago is reportedly demanding R315k of the R600k she was promised to be paid after the brand terminated her contract where she was one of the brand ambassadors.

The publication adds that Bathu appointed her as brand ambassador for 12 months from March last year.

She was allegedly expected to attend Bathu stores’ official openings as an ambassador and DJ.

The agreement reportedly read:

“Ms Kganyago will be required to DJ in the store.”

“Bathu Pty Ltd will arrange DJ equipment of her choosing,” reads the agreement.

“All travel arrangements will be scheduled as per her requirement and will be at Bathu Pty Ltd’s expense.”

Lerato was a brand ambassador of Bathu sneakers alongside, Somizi, DJ Tira, Khanyi Mbau, and Lamiez Holworthy.

Bathu allegedly paid her R285 000 in R185 000 and R35 000 tranches between March and June last year before cutting ties with her.

The brand informed the media personality that it’d terminated her contract due to budget constraints.

“As per my communication on the 6th November, please be advised that Bathu Pty Ltd has decided to terminate our contract with Ms Lerato Kganyago.”

“As a business, we have had to cut back on expenses and we have had to terminate numerous contracts with some of our valuable stakeholders such as Ms Lerato Kganyago. “

Kganyago is demanding the gross amount of R315 000.00 which includes legal costs and interest on the aforementioned amount, at a rate of 7.5% per annum.

DDF staff shortages delay Matobo bridge construction

DDF staff shortages delay Matobo bridge construction. The project was launched in 2017 to enable villagers in the area to access health and other services in the district. DDF supervisor for Matobo, Bulilima and Mangwe, Ignitious Msekiwa said the project would be completed next month.

Construction of a bridge across Gonde River in Matobo district, Matabeleland South province, has stalled amid reports of manpower shortages at the District Development Fund (DDF).

“May I safely announce that Gonde River bridge is still work in progress. We have experienced some challenges in implementation of the project, but we are sure we will be done soon. We have not gone as far as 80% of the project, but our estimated date of completion is before March 31 this year.”

Msekiwa said DDF requires about 40 employees to finish the Gonde piped drift project. The project employed 16 community workers, who Msekiwa said were not enough to complete the project.

Ward 16 villager Kudakwashe Zulu said the delays in completing the bridge had left them stranded especially during the rainy season. “Students also fail to cross the river to White Waters primary and secondary schools in Mazhaimbe village,” he said.

Zimbabweans risk police and crocodiles in desperate bid to reach SA

$

The river has flooded after weeks of incessant rain, resulting in three drownings of “border jumpers” last month alone. A bushy pathway leads to the crossing points along the Limpopo River that are the most treacherous part of the journey for Zimbabweans seeking a better life in neighbouring South Africa.

A few kilometres away, where the roar of the river can still be heard, men and women clutching small bags of belongings trudge along a different dusty track near Malindi Transit Shed. At 9am on a Friday morning in February, the route to the bridge connecting South Africa and Zimbabwe is already heavily patrolled by soldiers clasping rifles.

The journey to Beitbridge on the Zimbabwean side is punctuated by five security checkpoints, with a bribe of US$3 required by the soldiers and police at each stop. “Where are you going? Come here!” shouts a soldier to a woman in a black tracksuit. After questioning her, he allows the woman to pass.

The path continues to the old Alfred Beitbridge, where the road crosses the Limpopo between Musina in South Africa and Beitbridge in Zimbabwe. Here, border-jumping guides, known as magumaguma, are ready to assist in illegal crossing.

It is a steady stream, as Zimbabweans fleeing economic turmoil seek opportunities in South Africa, a more stable economy. Rising inflation, unemployment and poverty drives most Zimbabweans to make the journey. Those who can afford the bribes take the bridge. Others try their luck in the fast-flowing waters, where crocodiles await them.

The risks are high: about 100 Zimbabweans are deported daily, according to South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs. But Zimbabweans with little left at home are still making the journey in their droves.

“You just pay 20 or 50 rand and they will let you pass. But at every stop, you have to part with something. This is the price one pays to gain safe passage,” says Gain Murambiwa (38), a taxi driver. Another driver says it is more expensive in South Africa, where security has been stepped up.

“Anyone serious about crossing should at least part with 600 rand, because it is more expensive in South Africa. I normally do five or six trips because many people want to jump the border and we are here to help. There is brisk business when the border is closed like this,” he says.

Moud Mbedzi (39) is hoping to join her husband, who left for South Africa before the pandemic. Holding a small bag of clothes, she says: “I have already communicated with someone on the other side who will help me get past security into South Africa.”

She has left her two children in the care of her mother. “Luckily, my husband found a job and if I get one also, we will get enough money to take care of our children. It’s sad to leave them, but I have to go,” she says.

Another hopeful traveller is Bright Ntepe (30), an engineering graduate. “There is nothing here for me. I have tried everything. Maybe there is a better life for me in South Africa. I know it is not going to be easy but I will try,” Ntepe says.

The high river levels are undoubtedly deterring some. At Spillway, a once-popular illegal crossing point about 1,6km from Beitbridge, fishermen say the river is too dangerous to cross. “We hardly see anyone coming to cross because the waters are too deep. It is very quiet these days,” says 30-year-old Arnold Muzemba.

But at other spots the risky crossings continue. Farther along the river, a group of men are repairing a broken wooden boat at one of the few illegal crossing points still in use since the river started rising. Moses Mbedzi (40) transports both people and goods across the river. His raft is big enough to carry 12 people at a time, plus a refrigerator or other home appliances. Smugglers also pay large sums to move contraband across.

Driving home a nail as he tries to finish the work before the rain comes, he says three of his boats have been destroyed by the authorities in recent weeks, so he is making another one.

“This is the only job I know. How do I feed my family without helping people to cross? I know it is a dangerous job, but I have to do it,” Mbedzi says. “The day before yesterday, they [the security forces] destroyed my raft, but luckily they left the rope that we use to control the raft so that it is not swept away by the current.

“This is a dangerous undertaking, but I cannot sit at home and do nothing.” The Limpopo River runs for about 260km along the border, and the police have just eight bases, 32km apart, making it difficult to control.

“These people are adamant. We always take their boats but you will see them the next day with a new one. They even tried to create a wooden bridge years ago but it was destroyed by our South African counterparts,” a Zimbabwean soldier says. Zimbabweans, who succeed in breaching the border still have to get past dozens of roadblocks on the other side.

According to South Africa’s Home Affairs minister Aaron Motsoaledi, 13 387 people were arrested at roadblocks between December 10 and 31 last year for border jumping and smuggling-related offences. The pandemic has exacerbated smuggling between the two countries, with the South African Police Service saying smuggled goods include cigarettes, explosives and stolen vehicles.

“The South African Police Service (Saps) is working together with other stakeholders in the justice, crime prevention and security cluster at the borders as well as on the border line to curb illegal crossing of persons and the smuggling of items,” says its spokesperson, Colonel Athlenda Mathe.

“On a weekly basis, there are undocumented persons who are mostly job-seekers that are apprehended by the Saps and handed over to Zimbabwean authorities through a repatriation process which is dealt with by the Department of Home Affairs,” says Mathe.

But even as the authorities in both countries try to stem the flow across the border, the economic crisis in Zimbabwe shows no sign of easing and the number of people prepared to risk crossing for a better life is only rising.

5 amazing Cannabidiol products you didn’t know existed

5 amazing Cannabidiol products you didn’t know existed. Cannabidiol (CBD) products are getting very popular. We need more research, but CBD has proven to be a helpful and non-toxic option for managing chronic pain, anxiety, insomnia, and so on. There are countless CBD producers and retailers out there, but people need to make sure that the products they use are safe and of high quality.

Commercially available CBD has little to no THC in it, so it doesn’t cause a high or any type of dependence. Most individuals tolerate it well, yet it can interact with other drugs.

CBD is available in a wide range of products. Here are some helpful products you didn’t know existed. Following the mainstream emergence of cannabidiol products, there are various products if you’re interested in experiencing the therapeutic benefits of CBD.
CBD Isolate

CBD isolate is a pure extract of cannabidiol (99% pure). It generally comes from hemp plants, which contain meagre amounts of THC. CBD isolate is a chemical component, meaning that it’s obtained by different extraction processes, including steam distillation, carbon dioxide extraction, solvent extraction, and lipid extraction. The extraction process removes all the active compounds from the hemp plant. Afterward, a refining process eliminates the other phytocannabinoids, which occur naturally in the hemp plant.

CBD isolate shows great promise as an ingredient for pharmaceutical drugs, wellness products, topical and cosmetic products, infused edibles, and so on. Benefits include high purity, consistency, ease of handling, and mild flavour/smell. It’s good for moderate to severe pain, inflammation, and anxiety. Owing to the fact that CBD isolate is an odourless and flavourless powder, it can be added to just about anything. For example, you can use CBD isolate while cooking. Dissolve it into some butter or cooking oil.

CBD Gummies

The effect of CBD edibles can last anywhere between two and four hours. What happens is that the cannabidiol is released slowly over long periods of time, as food is digested. CBD gummies are an excellent choice to consider. They’re exactly what they sound like; in other words, small, chewy pieces of candy that are infused with cannabidiol. Consumed orally, these edibles help with anything from sleep issues to stress. Many brands standardise the amount that goes into each gummy, meaning that you know exactly how many milligrams of cannabidiol you’re consuming with each serving.

Simply pop a gummy into your mouth, chew, and enjoy. Much of the cannabidiol absorption takes place after it passes through the liver and digestive system. Some CBD is lost in the process, which translates into the fact that CBD gummies have a lower bioavailability as compared to other products. Cannabidiol works by binding to CB1 receptors in the brain and CB2 receptors in the immune system. If you haven’t tried CBD edibles before, it’s recommended to start with a lower-dose CBD gummy and progress toward higher potencies, if necessary.

CBD Lube

These days, you can use CBD for everything, including vaginal health. CBD lube decreases inflammation, increases blood flow, and helps with muscle relaxation. Additionally, it lessens irritation and dryness and helps with vaginal pain during penetration. Undoubtedly, this lube is worth your time. Check with your doctor before using CBD because it can change your blood levels of certain medications. Before using CBD lube, apply the chosen product to your arm to make sure you’re not allergic. Basically, you have to treat it like any other skincare product.

It’s a good idea to look at the ingredients of the lubricant. You should be on the lookout for chemicals and artificial scents. Be mindful about the brand and the site you’re getting the CBD lube from. Even if you’ve had trouble with lubricants before, you might still benefit from one with CBD in it. To apply, simply rub it around your lady parts. Make sure to read the instructions before proceeding. Using CBD oils or tinctures alone is highly discouraged. Do research when purchasing CBD lube.

CBD Chewing Gum

When you need a quick and straightforward dose of cannabidiol, CBD chewing gum is the answer. If you do a quick search on Google, you’ll find numerous brands. You’re spoilt for choice. Chewing gum works by releasing cannabidiol sublingually. The overall effect depends on the gum’s composition and whether CBD is multi-layered. Extra layers result in a more prolonged release. Interestingly, CBD chewing gum has the same bioavailability as other oral administration forms. Keep the saliva in your mouth so that you continue to benefit from bioavailability.

CBD chewing gum is sugar-free, which means that you can maintain healthy teeth. The effect takes about half an hour to an hour to set it. It’s perfect after a meal or your morning coffee. There are lots of reasons why you might want to try CBD chewing gum. It supports well-being and encourages a positive lifestyle. The active motion of chewing gum helps you feel more relaxed during daily stresses. Whether or not it’ll be effective depends on your personality. What is more, cannabidiol affects people differently.

CBD Energy Drinks

If you’re like other people, you begin your day with an unhealthy energy drink, which leaves you feeling tired and sluggish. If you need a boost in energy, try CBD energy drinks. You can be confident that what you’re drinking is safe. Cannabidiol is regarded as a sedative rather than a stimulant. Depending on the right dosage, it can have an energising effect. Indulging in a CBD energy drink every now and then is okay, but keep in mind that they’re not a sustainable source of energy. If you’re prone to having heart palpitations, it’s better to stay away from such drinks.

All in all, CBD is great for energy and focus. When in the market for CBD products, take into account safety, quality, and transparency. The products should be made by a company that can provide proof of third-party testing by an independent lab. Most importantly, they shouldn’t contain more than 0,3 THC. A dose of CBD is enough to support those activities that drain your energy.

NRZ runs first steam train of the year for lovers. The NRZ says it is taking advantage of the country’s relaxed Covid-19 restrictions to offer lovers a unique experience. The train will leave Bulawayo on Sunday at 9AM and is expected back in the evening at 6PM.

Lover are in for a treat this Sunday as the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) Rail Leisure Unit will run its first steam train of the year to Figtree to help celebrate Valentine’s Day. Valentine’s Day is on Monday February 14.

NRZ acting spokesperson Martin Banda said this was part of their drive to diversify their tourism products. “The NRZ will be celebrating that momentous occasion by running various Steam Train excursions throughout the year such as this Valentine Sashay.

“Furthermore, in response to global tourism trends and tourism growth, NRZ has embarked on a drive to diversify their product offering. NRZ has proved that they are ready to walk the talk through re-introduction of steam train safaris in and around Bulawayo, Victoria Falls and Harare.

“The safaris have quickly become a hit among domestic tourists who are keen on calm activities to engage in with their families,” he said. Banda said due to the fact that this year’s Valentine’s Day is falling on a Monday, NRZ has decided to run the steam train on Sunday to give as many lovers as possible a chance to express their affection for each other in a relaxed environment.

He said the Valentine’s Day steam train will depart Bulawayo at 9am and will take travellers from Bulawayo to Figtree and back. “The train will also provide steam train enthusiasts with an opportunity to see the Garratt Locomotive in action.

“At Figtree, passengers will disembark from the train and walk to Redwood Leisure Centre where lunch and drinks have been arranged. It will leave Figtree for the return trip at 3.30PM and arrive in Bulawayo at 5.30PM Hours,” said Banda.

He said fares are pegged at US$25 for adults and US$13 for children in compartments while the dining cars will cost US$20 for adults and US$10 for children. Banda said those who pay for four people will get one ticket free and said fares do not include braai packs and drinks, which will be on sale separately.

“The NRZ steam trains are run to promote domestic tourism through train excursions targeting enthusiasts who have interest in locomotives of a by-gone era and the general public as they provide that rare opportunity for selfies and other pictures.

“The steam train excursions have attracted a good response from the general public unlike in the past when mostly steam train enthusiasts were the main passengers,” he said. NRZ runs a number of leisure trains like the Safari to the Kuimba Shiri Bird Park (Harare); Steam Train Party (Harare) and Mother’s and Father’s Day Run (Bulawayo), Family Fun Day to Plumtree among others were all sold out before.

Rail Leisure promotes domestic tourism using steam locomotives and museum coaches which have been preserved to ensure quality and affordable ride for passengers. Zimbabwe’s first locomotive arrived in Bulawayo from Vryburg, South Africa in 1897, and since then rail transport has been an option to many locals and cargo carriers.

Oliver Mtukudzi releases album Abiangi

The song, released by Gallo Record Company and Tuku Music on Friday is the first release from the legendary musician since his passing three years ago. My Better Half, the latest duet from the late music icon Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi’s features a fellow Zimbabwe Afro-fusion musician, Mbeu.

The song has the soul of “Tuku” and one can feel the labour of love that was poured into the song by both Mbeu and the late Mtukudzi. ‘My Better Half’ is from Tuku’s upcoming body of work titled, Abiangu 2 which means “friends” in Shona (Chikorekore dialect).

It is a follow up to Abiangu (Duets Of My Time) released in 2011. The duet is a ballad that celebrates finding “the one”. Mtukudzi’s daughter Samantha said fans of the legend can expect another exceptional musical friendship between Tuku and his chosen friends on the album.

“It’s his friends (abiangu) that most fans didn’t know or think that they can do a collaboration. Which is exciting,” she said. She said the family was still finding it hard to accept that the legend is no more.

“It has not been easy without our father, but you learn to live with the pain and absence of him. Some days you smile when you hear his voice and other days it’s very hard. But we have to move on, pushing and persevering. It is important for us to release this masterpiece because it is what Oliver would have wanted and it is something that shows even in death Oliver is still with his fans.”

The project will embrace the digital space and will form a part of several singles to complete one body of work which will be Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi’s 68th offering. As with the first album, Abiangu 2 will follow the theme of duets the icon did with his friends in Africa and beyond.

In true Tuku style, the project is his way of expressing his gratitude to his many friends who he held close to his heart and collaborated with on this project. These include Ladysmith Black Mambazo (South Africa), Mr. Nhungue (Mozambique), James Sakala (Zambia), Diamond Musica (Zimbabwe), and Mario Lucio (Cape Verde) among many others.

“With all the hard work that Oliver put in in all the years of his musical career, his work continues to keep the legacy going. His band that he used to perform with, The Black Spirits, continue to do live performances adhering to Covid regulations and have been doing extremely well despite the absence of the main man himself.”

Samantha said there were plans for performances with some of the artists featured on the album through Tuku Music events.

The album is one of many initiatives that the Tuku Music Estate and family have undertaken to keep his legacy alive. One of these initiatives also included the inaugural Oliver Mtukudzi Memorial Half Marathon which took place on the third anniversary of his passing on January 23 last month.

VP Chiwenga taken to court

VP Chiwenga taken to court. In his court application, Dzikamai Bere cited Chiwenga as the third respondent in his official capacity as the responsible official assigned to oversee peace and reconciliation.

A human rights activist has taken Vice President Constantino Chiwenga to the High Court seeking an order directing him to table before Parliament a National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) 2020 report and its recommendations.

Bere who is also the executive director of the Zimbabwe Association for Human Rights (ZimRights), cited the NPRC and NPRC chairperson Sello Nare as the first and second respondents respectively.

The NPRC was established under sections 251 to 253 of the 2013 constitution to address past human rights abuses including Gukurahundi. In his application, Bere, who is represented by Darlington Marange of the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum said:

Despite the clear provisions of the constitution and the Act, the respondents failed or neglected to submit or publish that annual report for the year 2020 and we are already approaching the deadline for the submission of an annual report of 2021 in March 2022…

With this approach I have a real fear that the annual report for the year 2020, which will be due in March 2022 will not be submitted on time and it is competent in these circumstances, to issue a court order to compel the respondents to also comply with their reporting obligations for the annual report for the year 2021.

Bere argued that failure to submit the reports makes it difficult for Parliament to hold the NPRC accountable.

In terms of section 16 (5) of the NPRC Act, the minister responsible is required to table this report before Parliament within 10 days of the next sitting of that Parliament. Under the same Act, the minister is mandated to table the recommendations within 6 months after submitting the same report to Parliament.

ZANU PF MP on spotlight after claiming to have built 3 schools using ZW$2 million

ZANU PF MP on spotlight after claiming to have built 3 schools using ZW$2 million. Mathe, who became MP for the constituency in 2018, told Khulumani FM radio that she had initiated various infrastructure projects since getting into office, including constructing three schools.

Nkayi South villagers have questioned claims by their ZANU PF legislator Stars Mathe that she has built three schools using ZW$2 million disbursed under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF). When we started getting the CDF, we looked at the shortage of schools in Nkayi South as children walk long distances of up to 30 kilometres.

I then ‘planted’ three new secondary schools starting with Gonye Secondary School, which is now at roofing stage. We then went to build Sagonda secondary school. I had to cut down trees in the v!rgin land and build Sagonda.

We also went to Gwamba valley and built one school in the bush after talking to the Forestry Commission and we constructed Dabe Secondary School to cater for the area.

However, in their virtual Nkayi Community Parliament, villagers said the $2 million mentioned by Mathe was not even enough to build a classroom block, let alone three schools. They said ZW$2 million can only purchase roofing, but not enough to also cover transport costs to Nkayi.

Mathe previously attracted the anger of villagers after accusing them of not being grateful for the ongoing Bulawayo-Nkayi road rehabilitation programme. The road has been in a poor state for decades.

Strive Masiyiwa announces he’s leaving Facebook

Strive Masiyiwa announces he’s leaving Facebook. Econet Wireless founder, Strive Masiyiwa has announced that he was leaving Facebook. In a Facebook post titled “Go to bed smarter each day,” Masiyiwa said the countdown to the last days of the platform, where he has been sharing inspirational stories and business tips, had started. He said:

As we’re on the countdown to the last days of the platform at the end of this month, I want to remind you of one of the most important lessons I’ve taught here since back in 2013 when we got started: The importance of #Reading.

We all read these days, more so than at any other time in history. The guy looking at his small phone following social media platforms actually reads a lot! He probably reads as much volume of writing as Warren Buffett! So don’t say things like: “I cannot read long things”.

In 2020, TechnoMag reported that the Zimbabwean-born telecoms mogul Strive Masiyiwa had overtaken Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to become the most influential businessman on Facebook.

According to the publication, Masiyiwa, who has close to 5 Million followers on the social site, is ranked higher in terms of his followership, his interactions and the growth of his engagement and reach. In 2019, Masiyiwa and his wife, Tsitsi, quit Twitter and later suggested that some users of the microblogging site were posting fake news. He said:

Econet Global which I own, decided to move shares into another company, which I also own. I own both companies 100%. It has nothing to do with the listed companies! Our accountants were simply doing some housekeeping.

There was no deal!

This is one of the reasons why I don’t use Twitter, because a lot of people rush to say things on it, without checking the facts. It is a place of “conspiracy theorists”, who are thrown from pillar to post. In the current Facebook post, Masiyiwa also claimed that he does not have Instagram or WhatsApp accounts.

Sunny Yi Feng Tiles Zimbabwe in hot soup over violation of environmental laws

Sunny Yi Feng Tiles Zimbabwe in hot soup over violation of environmental laws. Sunny Yi Feng Tiles Zimbabwe, a Chinese-owned billion-dollar ceramics venture, has once again come to the spotlight for alleged violations of environmental laws, yet no attempts have been made to rein it in.

The Standard reports that the company’s alleged violations have on several occasions been discussed by a committee which comprises of the Chegutu Rural District Council, District Development Fund (DDF), President’s Office, Health and Child Care ministry, National Social Security Authority, Environmental Management Authority (EMA), Zimbabwe National Water Authority, Norton Town Council, the department of roads and the Norton member of parliament, Temba Mliswa.

Chegutu district coordinator, Tariro Tomu, indicates that a September 2019 visit to the company showed that Sunny Yi Feng was discharging sewage from ablution facilities through holes that were drilled into toilets at the site.

This created fear among committee members that the effluent would find its way into the tail end of the nearby Darwendale Dam, which supplies Norton and is a major source of fish for consumers as far as Harare.

The Standard further reports that while the complaints of pollution have been running for years, Sunny Yi Feng had not adopted measures to redress the situation.

Norton legislator, Mliswa, who has been vocal about the company’s alleged misbehaviour, claimed Justice minister Ziyambi Ziyambi and ZANU PF spokesperson, Chris Mutsvangwa, were among the political elites protecting the Chinese company.

South Africa lockdown restrictions to last until the end of the year

South Africa lockdown restrictions to last until the end of the year. Speaking to the Sunday Times, Phaahla said this is likely to include rules around the wearing of face masks, sanitising, social distancing, and limiting the size of gatherings.

South Africa plans to keep several lockdown restrictions in place, even after it has lifted the national state of disaster, says health minister Joe Phaahla. He said:

As long as we have the circulation of the virus, especially indoors, we are going to have to continue social distancing. There will also have to be limits on the size of gatherings until the end of this year. The virus will still be there.

Phaahla pointed to the UK’s recent decision to lift all restrictions, which led to an uptick in the number of infections. He said they are trying to find the correct combination and legal framework without the Disaster Management Act.

Phaahla added that work on a vaccine mandate for South Africa is still ongoing, with the government working to ensure people are not denied basic services as part of new regulations on mandatory vaccines. He added:

We must define the conditions under which we advocate or support mandatory vaccination. The matter is not off the table, it’s taking a bit longer to formulate.

Meanwhile, President Cyril Ramaphosa Thursday announced that South Africa’s state of disaster will be lifted once other measures to regulate and manage the COVID-19 response are finalised.

In his state of the nation address on Thursday evening (10 February), Ramaphosa said that the end to the state of disaster will be confirmed once new regulations outside of the Disaster Management Act are formulated. No specific timeline for ending the state of disaster was given.

TEO Events issues statement on reports of stealing money at Greatman’s wedding

TEO Events issues statement on reports of stealing money at Greatman’s wedding. TEO Events, an events planner that organised the wedding of musician Tongai Greatman Gwaze and his wife Silibaziso Masara, has challenged the musician’s family to a debate over allegations that TEO Events abused funds at the wedding.

This comes after Greatman told the media that a service provider approached him demanding US$2 500 for the services provided at the wedding. He told The Sunday Mail:

They monopolized everything! TEO directed all cash donations to their bank accounts and mobile numbers for mobile money transfers. Goods were received on our behalf. We got nothing.

What is surprising though is that there are service providers that are yet to be paid. I am said to be in arrears of more than US$2 500. However, I know cash donations that came through on the day and before could have easily settled the debts.

Meanwhile, Matthew Mhembere of TEO Events said Greatman and his family were being ungrateful adding that it was not his responsibility to meet their debts. He said he had blocked communications channels with Greatman’s family. TEO Events said on Facebook:

Morning family, morning Zimbweeeee after I woke up this morning ndichiona nyaya MU Sunday mail of us being accused nana Greatman kunzi takaba ma funds, I’m in tears kuti Lord do we deserve this ….

I’m doing a live today making my statement, ndanga ndakanyarara pose APA coz ndaiti its social media but now that they are kuma newspapers I need to respond, and I’m challenging Greatman and his family to a live talk to any page re any celebrity rine following yakakura Vs us TEO Events and make things clear, this is bad and to make matters worse hakuna kana 1 anogona kunzwa side of my storry bt kungomuka nekuona nyaya mu newspaper.

Some who responded to TEO Events’ post said the events planner gave the musician the impression that all costs were catered for, therefore, it should be surprising to hear of a debt. One Sindiso Bandura said:

I’m personally grateful you helped Greatman, but according to the story we read, Greatman akuti akubvunzwa chikwereti che2500 USD. If Greatman is in debt after apromiswa kuti it’s going to be free then it’s unfair. That’s why pakuda understanding yekuti dzimwe mari dzemadonations dzakaendepi. I don’t think Greatman is ungrateful but he needs answers so that he will be able to settle his debts. You were indeed kind but there is nothing wrong kuda kubvunzisisa mari yakaendepi coz they are in debt.

Another one said the public was also given the impression that everything is free, and all the donations should have gone to Greatman’s Bank accounts and EcoCash. Others suggested that the events planner must be transparent and reveal how it used the money that was donated towards the wedding.

Temba Mliswa comments on crowd that attended Douglas Mwonzora’s rally

Temba Mliswa comments on crowd that attended Douglas Mwonzora’s rally. MDC-T which is contesting in the by-elections as MDC Alliance was officially launching its campaign ahead of the polls. The Standard reports that an estimated 300 people turned up for the rally, but a statement issued by the party claimed 5000 attended.

Norton legislator, Temba Mliswa has said MDC-T leader, Senator Douglas Mwonzora, has a huge task ahead of the 26 March by-elections amid reports that a small crowd attended his rally on Saturday.

The rally in Harare’s Highfield yesterday was being hyped as the stage to demonstrate that Mwonzora was the leading opposition figure in Zimbabwe.

It was billed to start at 10 am, but the party leader only arrived at the venue in the high-density suburb around 3:30 pm amid speculation that he delayed his arrival hoping that there would be an improvement in attendance.

Mliswa said the small crowd showed that Mwonzora faced an uphill struggle as he tries to outsmart Nelson Chamisa-led Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) and Zanu PF. He said:

For Mwonzora today should be a reminder that he has work to do. As I have always argued, the electorate isn’t obtuse or naive. It knows what it wants and he has the onerous task to make people believe that he can be a genuine opposition leader.

Meanwhile, Mwonzora told ZBC that he was excited by the turnout and expressed shock over the images on social media showing a small crowd. He said: I was shocked the social media was circulating pictures without people, but now we can see for ourselves 5 000 plus.

Besides the ruling party, no other party can have such numbers without being forced or enticed by money. After having a leadership clean-out, we are now having leaders who follow the party ideology and out of 12 seats we expect a minimum of eight.

At yesterday’s rally, most of the people were wearing red t-shirts emblazoned with the late Morgan Tsvangirai portraits with only a few wearing Mwonzora’s white branded t-shirts. In his address, Mwonzora urged the electorate not to vote for people that were “recalled from office because of incompetence.”
