Fastjet warns of fake competition by scammers. The alleged scammers are asking people to complete a questionnaire and stand a chance to win a cash prize or air tickets. Multi-award-winning African value airline, Fastjet, has warned members of the public about a fake competition being circulated on social media by scammers.

In a statement, Fastjet distanced itself from the purported competition and advised the public to not click on the link on the messages and to immediately delete the message and not share it with anyone. The statement read:

Fastjet is aware of a fake competition circulated on social media by scammers. The competition is requesting people to complete a questionnaire and falsely stand a chance to win a cash prize or air tickets.

Fastjet advises that recipients of such messages do not click on the link, immediately delete the message and not share with any of their friends or contacts.

In November 2022 Fastjet will celebrate its seventh successful year of operations in Zimbabwe, the company says on its website.

Fastjet continues to operate daily return services between Harare and Bulawayo, Harare, and Victoria Falls, and internationally from Harare, Bulawayo and Victoria Falls to Johannesburg in South Africa, which remains a popular destination choice for Fastjet customers.

The airline has recently added two new international destinations to their flight network from Victoria Falls, the tourism capital in Zimbabwe to Kruger, Nelspruit Mpumalanga in South Africa, and Maun the tourism capital of Botswana.

ZANU PF defends Chilspot’s DJ Fantan and Levels

ZANU PF defends Chilspot’s DJ Fantan and Levels. Chillspot Records producers Arnold Kamudyariwa better known as Fantan and Rodger Tafadzwa Kadzimwe, also known as Levels, led a team of artistes who entertained ZANU PF supporters at the rally.

The ruling ZANU PF party has defended Zim Dancehall record label, Chillspot Records after it was criticised for performing at the ruling party’s star rally in Epworth on Saturday.

Posting on Twitter, one Luckson Chinanga, expressed displeasure over the decision by Fantan and Levels to perform at the ZANU PF rally. He wrote:

When one decides to side with the oppressor, the oppressed are bound to react. In the days of the liberation war, such people like Fantan who betrayed the struggle faced a painful death.

However, ZANU PF defended the Mbare-based music producers, saying people should leave them alone. The party said:

Any political party which fights Chillspot is bound to fail. Trying to separate Chillspot from youths is asking to separate dancehall and reggae from ghetto youths. People should allow artists to thrive.

Fantan was derided by some social media users on Twitter when he openly endorsed ZANU PF, going as far as thanking President Emmerson Mnangagwa for “the good roads he is building”.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services ministry permanent secretary, Nick Mangwana, was seemingly surprised by the level of intolerance displayed after Chillspot’s performance. He tweeted:

I have seen some scathing attacks against Fantan and others who attended some political function.

These astounding attacks betrayed serious intolerance issues among those who falsely claim to advocate for human rights and democracy.

Some of these are just self-serving cyber-bullies.

ZANU PF is reportedly giving cash to influential young celebrities like Fantan, Passion Java and DJ Towers to help support the party’s in the upcoming by-elections and 2023 general elections.

Vacancy: Harare is recruiting Metro Police Officers. However, Moyo warned prospective job seekers not to give money to people claiming that they will facilitate their applications and ensure that they are recruited into the city’s enforcement division.

The City of Harare is currently recruiting metro police officers, Acting Town Clerk Engineer P Moyo has said. Said Moyo:

It has come to the attention of council management that there are individuals collecting cash from desperate job seekers promising them easy recruitment into the city’s enforcement division under the Chamber Secretary’s Department.

Council has not engaged anyone to act on its behalf and therefore wants to advise the public against parting with their money.

Council urges all and would-be job seekers for the aforementioned positions to follow proper procedures. Council invites for applications and shortlists candidates who qualify for interviews.

We encourage individuals who have already paid or have been enticed to pay to report the matter to the Zimbabwe Republic Police so that the culprits can be accounted for.

Zim cancer patient arrested in India for smuggling drugs

Zim cancer patient arrested in India for smuggling drugs. The airport customs officials arrested the woman for trying to smuggle heroin and methamphetamine worth close to ₹60 crores to India. The woman has been identified as Harare resident Rosie Diamon, a cancer patient believed to be from a poor background.

A Zimbabwean woman believed to be in her forties was arrested at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai, India, on Saturday night for smuggling heroin.

She had arrived from Harare to Mumbai via Kigali on Saturday by RwandAir flight WB-500. An official from the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU), Mumbai, confirmed the arrest. Said the official:

The examination of the baggage resulted in the recovery of 7,006 grams of yellowish powder tested as “Heroin” and 1,480 grams white crystal granules tested to contain a combination of Heroin and ‘Methamp’ (short form of Methamphetamine). The said drugs were subsequently seized.

The official added that the seized drugs collectively weighed 8.486kg and are worth approximately ₹59,40,20,000 in the illicit market. The drugs were reportedly concealed inside the trolley bag, in the executive bag and two file folders.

During questioning, the Zimbabwean woman informed investigators that the drugs were handed over to her in Harare and the same were to be delivered in New Delhi. She said after reaching Mumbai, she was supposed to travel to New Delhi by train a few days later.

This was to ensure minimum risk of travelling with contraband to the capital. An AUI officer said the suspect was offered free medical treatment in India in lieu of trafficking drugs.

She now faces a sentence of 20 years. The Zimbabwean woman claimed that she was told that the person who was supposed to receive the delivery of the contraband would himself contact her on reaching Delhi.

Customs officers were reportedly scanning her phone and were trying to find out details of her associates. The suspect has been to India before. She visited the country in 2019 but she did not smuggle any contraband at the time.

Diamon was charged under relevant sections of the Customs Act for smuggling drugs. She appeared in court and was remanded in judicial custody to 25 February. After her RT-PCR test, she would be lodged in jail.

MDC-T Mwonzora-led recalls Mutare Mayor

MDC-T Mwonzora-led recalls Mutare Mayor. MDC-T Manicaland spokesperson, Sekai Gombe, confirmed Tandi’s recall in an interview with New Zimbabwe on Monday. MDC-T president Douglas Mwonzora has recalled Mutare Mayor Blessing Tandi on allegations of secretly working with Nelson Chamisa’s Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).  Said Gombe:

Former mayor Tandi was working with CCC but some kind of propaganda was propelled to seem as if he was working with the Mwonzora-led party to evade a recall. He should have been recalled a very long time ago but local government ministry officials were delaying the process.

Meanwhile, CCC, formerly MDC Alliance, has distanced itself from Tandi saying they believed he had joined either MDC-T or ZANU PF. CCC Manicaland spokesperson David Panganayi said:

Tandi was no longer with us anymore as he was floating between Zanu PF and MDC-T. We never propelled any propaganda since it was his right to join any party of his choice.

He exercised that right when the first batch of councillors was recalled. We understand he was part of the list of recalls, but we never bothered to enquire about the reasons for a delay.

We strongly believed he had joined Zanu PF or MDC-T. We are the Citizens Coalition for Change and everyone including Tandi is free to join us so that we can finish the job at hand.

MDC-T national spokesperson Witness Dube revealed that Tandi was recalled some time ago. He said the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works delayed notifying the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) for unspecified reasons. Said, Dube:

Basically, the main reason for Tandi’s recall is incompetence. The party is tightening its grip on public officials particularly the mayors who are failing to lead in the level of excellence expected from our local authorities.

DJ Zinhle goes Above and Beyond for Murdah Bongz

The concept of true love is often debated and some conclude that it does not exist. We have seen some of our favourite celebs unexpectedly end their relationships just when you thought it would be a forever thing.

For DJ Zinhle, she seems pretty smitten over Murdah Bongz and she is not afraid to show it. Speaking to SMag, Zinhle shared what she thinks true love is and whether it exists in her relationship with Murdah Bongz.
When asked what is the meaning of true love, she said, “Emotional security, pure happiness, butterflies and mutual respect for each other.

We often hear of ‘love language’ which is used to describe how a person communicates their love for their partner. For Zinhle, she told the publication that she is a very clingy person so she wants to spend quality time with Murdah Bongz.

A few months back Zinhle revealed that she is the recipient of the non-existing Girlfriend Of The Year Award. She said Murdah hit the jackpot when he got her as his woman. With me he got a girlfriend of the year, I am thee most best girlfriend. You can even ask any of my exes, they know that when it comes to girl friending, I’m the best in the game. I’m the best girlfriend anyone can ever have,” she says.

With all this love going on, we have to take it back to the time Murdah stole Zinhle’s heart. A fan had asked Zinhle “how did Bongani show you that he likes you?”

He did this by sampling an old letter she wrote to her father just after he died in 2010. Bongani found it in her old collection and then made a new record from her old songs.

“I found a vinyl record from my old collection, on the cover was a letter I wrote to my dad after he died in 2010. I don’t even remember writing that letter but I was super emotional when I found it. Bongani took the record, sampled it and made a song for me,” she shared.

Another warrant of arrest issued for 106-year-old traditional healer

Another warrant of arrest issued for 106-year-old traditional healer. According to his daughter Pamela, who is also implicated in the matter, Zinyemba is critically ill. The first warrant of arrest hasn’t been effected since last month.

A second warrant of arrest has been issued against traditional healer, Elia Godknows Zinyemba (106), after he failed to show up in court once again. Zinyemba is accused of allegedly extorting the family of the late forex dealer, Precious Nyakujara.

It is alleged that in November last year, together with Artwell Magona and Elton Dickson, they connived to write a letter, which they addressed to the late forex dealer.

The letter was taken to the late Nyakujara’s house in Glen Lorne, Harare, and was received by her husband, John Mukorera.

It was an invitation for Nyakujara to visit Zinyemba’s shrine. The court heard that Mukorera advised his mother-in-law, Josephine Edith Nyakujara, about the developments.

On November 4, 2021, Mukorera, his mother-in-law and younger brother Brian Goto, allegedly went to Zinyemba’s shrine in Musekiwa Village, Bindura.

It is the State’s case that Zinyemba claimed he had given the late Nyakujara goblins, which had helped her succeed in business. He also claimed that since her death, the goblins had no one to take care of them.

He allegedly told the family some of their members could die if no action was taken to appease the goblins. The late Nyakujara’s mother was allegedly asked to inherit the goblins but she refused.

Zinyemba allegedly went on to claim he had agreed with the late Nyakujara that whenever the goblins were to be returned, there would be a payment of 40 cattle, a house in Harare and a car.

Nyakujara allegedly begged for a downward review of the payment and they negotiated till they agreed on US$5 000 and a motor vehicle. After the rituals, she allegedly paid them US$7000.

Nyakujara later informed her uncle, Douglas Chiendambuya, of the incident and they arranged to meet at a local hotel.

Chiendambuya brought Justice Muzungu to the indaba and he told Nyakujara that Zinyemba had made him go through a similar ordeal, after his father’s death.

Nyakujara then filed a police report for extortion. Marian Furidze appeared for the State.

Love-struck woman burns lover’s bedroom over Valentine’s Day

Love-struck woman burns lover’s bedroom over Valentine’s Day. Diana Maphosa burnt furniture, a laptop, radio, clothes and blankets belonging to her lover Kudakwashe Mushumbi. A 20-year-old Kuwadzana woman on Sunday set her lover’s bedroom on fire for ignoring her Valentine’s messages and calls.

He had blocked her on his phone when she wanted to know of their Valentine’s Day plans. Diana travelled almost three kilometres from Kuwadzana 6 to Kuwadzana Extension and scaled the security wall to gain entry into the house where Kudakwashe’s father was asleep.

She is alleged to have set Kudakwashe’s room on fire, after removing only his certificates. Kudakwashe and his mother were attending a church service when Diana struck.

She was spotted by neighbours, leading to her arrest. Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tendai Mwanza, confirmed the arrest saying Diana was facing arson, unlawful entry and theft charges.

“Police are investigating a case in Kuwadzana involving a woman believed to have unlawfully gained entry into the house of her lover’s parents where she set a room on fire,” said Insp Mwanza.

“She was reported to have taken three certificates and a tablet belonging to her lover before setting the room on fire. “She was spotted jumping over a pre-cast wall by neighbours and they ran after her.

“In the house was her lover’s father, who was reported to have been asleep when she started the fire. “He only escaped after the house was engulfed in smoke.

“On being questioned, she claimed the certificates belonged to her brother, and neighbours informed the lover leading to her arrest. “She was detained at Kuwadzana Police Station and is expected to appear in court tomorrow,” said Insp Mwanza.

Kudakwashe’s mother told H-Metro Diana had confronted her a day before the incident claiming that she was her daughter-in-law but her lover had been ignoring her calls and messages.

“This lady came on Saturday introducing herself as my daughter-in-law,” said Kudakwashe’s mother. “Her argument was that Kudakwashe started ignoring her love messages and blocked her calls when she asked him about their Valentine’s Day preparations.

“She threatened to deal with Kudakwashe if he continued ignoring her considering that he had s.e.xually abused her.

“I left my husband asleep when I attended church with Kudakwashe only to be called after neighbours spotted her leaving our house, which was engulfed in smoke. “Baba vanga vachatofiramo nekuti tavasiya vakarara mumba kwakutozobuda vakachidzwa neutsi,” she said.

DJ Fantan speaks after attending ZANU PF rally

DJ Fantan speaks after attending ZANU PF rally. A section of people, with political motives, blasted him for the remarks he made during the rally, while others defended him citing he has a right to choose, in a democratic society.

Speaking to H-Metro, DJ Fantan said he was unfazed by the reaction since he had more sympathisers than those who were against him. Chillspot Records co-founder, Arnold “DJ Fantan” Kamudyariwa, has responded to the social media trolls after he faced a backlash for gracing the ZANU PF star rally in Epworth last Saturday.

He also said it is normal for people to have different opinions. “Social media is a platform with mixed feelings. There are bullies and genuine fans, and we are used to it,” said DJ Fantan.

“It is just the same when we release music, there will always be negative and positive reactions from the people. “But numbers don’t lie.

“Those bashing us are a handful compared to those who are proud of us. Our show had many artists, but because of the level, social media bullies decided to attack me.

“I’m not even the first artist to greet the President and it’s obvious some of the bullies have been sent by their parties.” DJ Fantan said, like every citizen, he has the right to choose to be affiliated to any organisation.

“Bob Marley said every man has a right to decide his own destiny. I think our country is democratic, that’s why we have so many options to choose from,” he said.

“No one should bully other people and we can’t all think or feel like they do. “Register to vote and let the ballot speak. Don’t hate your neighbours for their political choices because that would be immature,” he said.

DJ Fantan said he was not angry with all the people who attacked him on social media. “We love them, all the haters, and those who support us. In fact, I love Zimbabwe and all its people.

“I will forever be grateful for those who stand with us, even through the storm. “I’m a music DJ with a passion for empowering the youths through music,” he told H-Metro.

The Chillspot Records co-founder said he was now looking forward to holding big gigs while observing Covid-19 regulations. “As musicians, we always need gigs because most of our income comes from performing live shows.

“Our main priority is to entertain people. “We will also be seriously following Covid-19 regulations if we get the opportunity to hold such big gigs,” said DJ Fantan.

Council relocates driving schools. Most driving schools were operating without training grounds, and they had resorted to using the Robert Gabriel Mugabe Square and Coca-Cola Grounds.

Harare City Council has relocated driving schools from the Robert Gabriel Mugabe Square to Rotten Row Commuter Omnibus holding terminus. Both settings do not have ablution facilities, or running water, yet the HCC was charging them ranking fees.

In an interview with H-Metro yesterday, HCC spokesperson, Michael Chideme, said: “We have allocated the place (Rotten Row Commuter Omnibus holding terminus) as a temporary measure.”

This followed a request by the Harare Driving Schools Association. HDSA chairperson, Nelson Mbedzi, wrote to HCC requesting for temporary use of the Rotten Row facility. “We cannot say it’s a permanent situation though. “We had earlier applied for the temporary use of the place before this move.

“As HDSA, we would be happy if Council gives us that place to operate from permanently as it has all facilities.” This year, HCC raised ranking fees, for cars, from $14 000 to $18 000 per month, while fees for trucks were raised from $18 000 to $22 000.

Man accused of physically abusing mother, sister. This came to light when Laura Dambudzo and her daughter, who is still at school, approached the Harare Civil Court, seeking a protection order against her son, Gift Ngwarume.

A Mbare woman has been under physical, and verbal abuse, from her son who labels her a lady of the night. They claimed Gift has been insulting and assaulting them for some time.

“I have been abused physically by my brother for four years now, he is always drunk and when he gets home he beats me up,” said the daughter. “I now go to school early in the morning and come back late at night to avoid him.

“My performance at school is now bad because I don’t have peace. I can’t even study. “At one time, when mom was at work, he threatened to stab me with a knife just because my female friend visited me.”

Laura said her son even claimed she was a prostitute. “Gift does not respect me as his mother, he always calls me a prostitute. “He shouts at me using vulgar words.”

Gift denied all the allegations saying he was actually the victim. “I do not beat (my sister). “She is one who insults me but l can’t insult her back because she is a woman.

“The reason why we always quarrel is because she brings alcohol at home and she comes home at night.” Magistrate, Sharon Mashavire, ordered Gift not to verbally, physically or psychologically abuse his mother or sister.

Peter Moyo drops a Valentine album. In an interview with H-Metro, the singer said he was ready to challenge other artists, who specialise in reggae, amapiano and Afro beats. “People have been comparing me with my father but one thing for certain is that I will never match his feat.

The 32-year-old, who has adopted the new stage name, ‘‘DJ Mapepetso,’’ said his latest album, which is already available online and is playing on various radio stations, was his Valentines’ Day present.

“I have received a lot of criticism but I think now is the right time to show them my other side. “In this album, I have done what no sungura artist has ever tried. This was also my Valentine’s present,” he said.

His album carries 10 tracks, ‘‘Happy,’’ an amapiano song, ‘‘Kumbira’’ (conscious), ‘‘Chichi’’ (Afro beat), ‘‘Hupenyu’’ (conscious), ‘‘Dairawo’’ (amapiano), ‘‘Chiedza’’ (conscious), ‘‘Maulenge’’ (Afro beat), ‘‘Mbereko’’ (conscious), ‘‘Babe’’ (Afro beat) and another conscious track, ‘‘Ndiwe.’’

The Utakataka Express boss gave credit to his producer, who advised him to take the new route.
“I have been working with my producer, Oscar Chamba, who created most of the beats, after seeing my potential.

“It was quite an amazing experience. “To my sungura fans, I will definitely release something for them in 2023. I will also release Mixed Bag Volume 2 in August.

“At the moment, I am busy with videos and to date I have done all the 10 videos of Mixed Bag Volume 1.” Moyo has released five albums after taking over the reins at Utakataka Express, following the death of his father Tongai, on October 14, 2011.

ZANU PF supporters attacked by unknown assailants. The activists were reported to have been campaigning for the ruling party ahead of the by-elections set for 26 March this year when they were pelted with stones.

Several ZANU PF activists were reportedly attacked on Monday morning by unknown assailants in Njube, Bulawayo, with some left nursing injuries.

The alleged attack was revealed by ZANU PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa at a special media briefing at the party headquarters in Harare yesterday.

ZANU PF National Political Commissar Mike Bimha corroborated Mutsvangwa’s claims, saying some of the injured ZANU PF members were ferried to hospital. Said Bimha:

It is surprising that after holding a successful rally in Epworth here in Harare, this morning (yesterday) we had our members attacked in Njube, Bulawayo.

This morning (yesterday) we had campaign teams who were going around doing their business and we have had been informed that they were attacked by members of the opposition.

They were attacked by people throwing stones and others using catapults. We have several cases of injuries as a result of that.

I was in touch with one of our officials in Bulawayo and they tell me that they were on their way to the hospital so that they can give us an accurate report on how many people have been injured and the severity of those injuries.

It is disheartening that when you have been people who are going about their business peacefully, they are disrupted by violent mobs. We are still waiting to get the accurate figures.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi on Monday night said he was yet to get a briefing on the incident.

Court orders Transport Minister to pay $500 000 to Chitungwiza resident. Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona has been ordered to pay more than ZWL$500 000 in damages for negligence to a Chitungwiza resident by a Harare magistrate.

According to the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), the resident, 39-year-old Shepherd Chishiri, sustained injuries when he fell into an uncovered roadside trench at Mbudzi roundabout in Harare.

Chishiri, with the assistance of ZLHR’s Tinashe Chinopfukutwa, sued Mhona and the City of Harare for damages arising from negligence.

He argued that the City of Harare and the Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development breached their duty of care by leaving the roadside trench unmarked and uncovered.

Chishiri claimed that he broke his right leg and had to undergo an operation in hospital at his own expense after he fell into an uncovered roadside trench at Mbudzi roundabout along Simon Mazorodze road in Harare.

The incident occurred on 23 February 2020 in the evening after Chishiri had disembarked from a commuter omnibus. Chishiri told the court that he suffered a nine per cent permanent disability. He said following the injury, he cannot play football, his favourite sport anymore and can no longer continuously drive a vehicle.

The Magistrate ordered Mhona to pay Chishiri ZWL$506 949 broken down as ZWL$200 000 as damages for pain and suffering, ZWL$250 000 being damages for future medical expenses, ZWL$50 000 for loss of social amenities in life and ZWL$6 949 being special damages for medical expenses incurred.

Mhona was also ordered to pay US$1 470 as special damages to cover some medical expenses which Chishiri incurred. Mhona, through his lawyers from the Attorney General’s Office, told the court that he was not opposed to Chishiri’s application and would abide by the court’s decision.

Chirambadare is charged with aggravated indecent assault for allegedly sexually abusing a boy from his Mufakose-based soccer academy. Chirambadare, through his lawyer Knowledge Maeresera, told the court that the teenage boy ceased to be a member of his club in 2020.

Chirambadare on Tuesday denied allegations of sodomy when his trial opened at the Harare Magistrates Court. He said he never conducted training sessions because of the COVID-19 induced lockdowns. Chirambadare alleged that it was in fact, the boy who reported him for sodomy who was in the habit of sexually abusing other boys at the academy.

He said the boy only made the report after his parents threatened to assault him. Regional magistrate Themba Kuwanda presided over Chirambadare’s case while Valerie Ngoma prosecuted.

Ngezi Platinum Stars fascinated by Cape Town City’s model. NPS chief executive officer, Nyasha Kadenge, recently embarked on a benchmarking exercise with Cape Town City Football Club. Speaking on the sidelines of the unveiling ceremony for new Ngezi Platinum players in Mhondoro-Ngezi on Monday, Kadenge said:

Premier Soccer League club Ngezi Platinum Stars (NPS) says it has drawn invaluable lessons from South African Premiership football side Cape Town City following recent exchanges between the two clubs.

We had an opportunity to visit our kit sponsor, Umbro, in South Africa and we had various discussions and we had an opportunity to benchmark with South African clubs in their portfolio. We got to meet Cape Town City management. We met the managing director, John Comitis, and the commercial manager.

We got to know how they manage the club, the structures and their Dream 100 club whereby they recruit players from all over Western Cape and we got very much fascinated by that project.

We also got to know how they model the club as a business. So we hope to start something along those lines so that our club can also benefit. We hope to use those linkages which came out of those engagements which we had.

NPS yesterday unveiled five players, namely Tapiwa Sibanda, a former Cranborne Bullets right-back, Last Jesi, who was formerly with Sudanese giants Al Hilal, ex-Triangle striker Delic Murimba, Carlos Mavhurume, who was with CAPS United, and Takunda Benhura, who was promoted from the club’s junior side.
