Zimbabwe-based Rimbi Travel and Tours Bus Service has been fined more than R400 000 by the South African Department of Home Affairs after some of its passengers were caught attempting to enter the country without passports.

The department on Monday said it had, “given Zimbabwe-based Rimbi Travel and Tours Bus Service until end of business today, 29 March 2022, to pay an administrative fine of R420 000 (about US$28,000) for breach of the Immigration Act”.

The law says any conveyor (transport business) that contravenes the provisions of section 35(9), will be liable for a fine of R15 000 for each person who arrives at a port of entry without appropriate travel documents.

Section 35(9) of the Immigration Act places on the person in charge of a transport business the responsibility of ensuring that all foreign passengers travelling through a port of entry have valid passports and relevant valid visas for their travel.

“On 29 March 2021, a driver of a Rimbi Travel and Tours bus arrived at Beitbridge Border Post with 28 passengers who did not have passports,” said the department.

“The driver and the bus company were subsequently fined R420 000.

“Since then, the bus company has been appealing the sanctions in terms of the immigration laws.”

The department said the appeals process has “been concluded and has been rejected, hence the money is due today”.

Transport companies that want to enter South Africa with passengers who do not have valid passports and visas, where required, are fined, denied entry and ordered to return such passengers to the sending country.

The fine is payable within 30 days of issue.

“Anybody that does not respect the country’s immigration laws will face due consequences. Immigration laws of the Republic apply to everyone equally,” warned Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi.

“In particular, conveyances that engage in smuggling of persons across the country’s borders will face the full might of the law.

“If Rimbi Travel and Tours does not pay by the end of today, the department will recover the money through legal means.”

“The world is so rigged against men when it comes to sexual things we think it’s always initiated by men and they couldn’t have been wronged. Many a man lost their innocence to older women but they keep living with it because nobody listens to them,” another said.

Described in local media as a rising star and known for his signature eye-patch, some of Ruger’s top songs include Bounce and Dior, which was a number one song on Apple Music in Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya and Gambia at the start of the year.

Reports recently came to light that the renowned artist was attacked in her home and robbed. The thug reportedly stole her personal firearm, as well as an undisclosed amount of cash.

In a statement released following the incident, the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, the burglar grabbed her and punched her in the face, then tied both her hand with a cable and proceeded to strangle her until she lost consciousness. Needless to say, this senseless act of violence left the country shocked. As concern about Mama Esther’s condition mounted, Big Zulu took the step to actually visit her to check up on her.

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s former wife, Marry Mubaiwa’s right hand is set to be amputated.

A specialist trauma and orthopaedic surgeon, Dr John Nyahunzvi, recommended amputation for Marry’s right hand above her elbow due to severe sepsis syndrome, non-healing ulcer and chronic osteomyelitis. He said:

I had the pleasure of assessing Marry Mubaws on behalf of my senior colleague Mr Mthethwa. She is 5 weeks post revision surgery for a right humerus shaft re-fracture.

Her current condition is critical life-threatening) and has necessitated hospitalization and stabilisation with a plan for emergent right high above elbow amputation as soon as she is deemed medically stable.

She has severe sepsis secondary to deep infection after revision Surgery to fix a re-fracture of the right humerus shaft against a background of chronic sepsis in her forearm.

Careful inpatient clinical management of her current state is required, and a multidisciplinary team is in attendance.

Marry’s lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa, told the court on Tuesday that her client is in a serious condition and is due for amputation of her right arm, reported The NewsHawks.

The 40-year-old model, who has been denied permission to access treatment outside the country, collapsed at the court on Monday after previous similar collapses.

Situational Anxiety

It occurs under the influence of external factors that are life-threatening and threatening to a person’s well-being at a given time.

A DECISION on how much maintenance dancehall chanter Seh Calaz should pay for his child with Moira Knight has been set for today.

Harare magistrate Judith Taruvinga is expected to make the determination after Moira’s claim of US$1 050 and the musician’s US$50 offer.

Taruvinga will also deal with the issue of whether the singer is able to afford paying for his child’s upkeep.

Lawyers acting for both parties were back again in court yesterday to hear Moira’s response after Seh Calaz filed his Notice of Opposition.

Through her lawyer, Moira argued that although Seh Calaz claimed he was not conducting music business, through live shows, he can’t neglect his child.

“He last contributed in August 2020. He knows his child was born prematurely and to deny that makes him a dishonest man,” claimed the lawyer.

“His whole Notice of Opposition is based on a dishonest approach, it’s also untrue that he earns US$320.

“The claim that he has five other children, who share US$115, should not be accepted by this court because there is no proof.”

Moira’s lawyer also questioned the motive behind Seh Calaz’s production of performance contracts from 2018.

“We all appreciate what Covid-19 has done to everyone and we even delayed making the maintenance claim because of that.

“However, to have Seh Calaz attach contracts from 2018 and 2019 between Chipaz, Boss Gaga and him is misleading.

“Last Friday he performed at a well-attended gig at Weraz Park in Glen View 1 where he was well paid, this comes after another successful gig at Jongwe Corner.

“The court must totally disregard his averment that he is not getting anything from his live shows,” added the lawyer.

The camp went on to tender a recent contract, where the chanter charged US$1 200, to perform at a local event.

“He should tell the court how he arrived at his offer of US$50 as maintenance for his minor child.

“The offer is mischievous and doubtful coming from a celebrated musician like him,” said the lawyer.

However, in his response, the singer claimed he was not making a lot of money from live performances and is banking on a comeback.

“Most artists have been holding virtual shows due to recent lockdowns which are beginning to ease.

“I am among the few artists who have been appearing as a guest act for free at fellow artists’ gigs preparing to host my own live shows.

“One of the contracts that have been presented to the court was fabricated because it does not carry my signature or that of my manager,” claimed Seh Calaz’s lawyer.

He also claimed the alleged studio does not exist but he only runs an association, YALA Nation, to promote disadvantaged upcoming musicians.

The chanter also claimed his social media handles have not yielded any profits in excess of US$200.

“Moira admits that her ex-husband had other children with different other women and she is the first of them all to drag the musician to maintenance court.

“The reason why the other women have not dragged him to court is clear indication that he takes care of all his children and they understand his situation to agree to live under his means.

“It’s also not true that he has not been contributing towards the child’s upkeep,” submitted the lawyer.

The musician also claims he shares all his earnings with his band members, manager, DJs and security.

The ZANU PF candidate for Chinhoyi Ward 3 in the recently-held by-elections, Precious Dadirai Makiwa, has become a butt of jokes in the town after she lost despite killing a cow and donating the meat to residents in a bid to lure them to vote for her.

Makiwa bought the cow which she slaughtered and invited residents to get free meat, with each resident getting a 2kgs packet of beef.

Residents who spoke to the publication confirmed the development, saying there was a stampede as mostly women flocked Makiwa’s family home to get the free meat.

In spite of her “generosity”, Makiwa polled 330 votes against her rival Richard Vhitirinyu, who got 513 standing as a Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidate.

Vhitirinyu, who was recalled by the MDC-T on 4 November 2020, was declared the duly elected councillor for Chinhoyi Ward 3.

Speaking to New Zimbabwe on Tuesday, Vhitirinyu said the ruling ZANU PF party should understand that people want tangible development rather than freebies. He said:

The electorate is no longer as gullible as before. Yes, Makiwa slaughtered a whole cow whose meat she distributed to many households in the hope they would vote for her.

Through her party, she also donated textbooks, but all this counted for nothing after she lost. People don’t want freebies, they need real transformational change in their lives.

Meanwhile, CCC won five out of the six Local Authority by-elections in Chinhoyi.

In Ward 4, ZANU PF’s Ignatius Zvigadza obtained 718 votes to beat CCC interim district chairman Brighton Mhizha who garnered 569 votes.

At least 100 Zimbabweans are living in slavery-like conditions in Oman after being recruited on false job promises.

Oman is a country in Western Asia, situated on the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, sharing land borders with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen; while sharing maritime borders with Iran and Pakistan.

The permanent secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Aaron Nhepera, told journalists in Harare on Tuesday that 18 cases have hitherto been reported.

Reports indicate that scores of Zimbabwean women who were recruited by agents to work as housemaids in Oman are now stranded and have no means to return home.

Their employers reportedly seized their passports to stop them from escaping and also routinely sexually abuse them.

Nhepera said the Government will engage the Oman government to facilitate the repatriation of the stranded Zimbabweans. He said:

Our prosecution pillar which involves the police and the courts were handling 18 cases.

But we do know that there could be more people that have not reported, but by way of estimation, we think we could be having as many as 100 people in Oman currently.

We are just starting our engagement with the government of Oman. We are doing that through the Foreign Affairs ministry which happens to be part of our committee.

The other resolution we have made is to dispatch an investigation committee to Oman as soon as possible so that they can talk to the 18 victims.

As soon as we have engaged the Oman government to deliberate on these issues, we will start repatriating our people home.

I cannot give you a date. It depends on the progress we make through the engagements.

Why are Zimbabweans going to Oman?
Nhepera suggested various reasons why people go to Oman and end up being enslaved. He said:

The reason why our people are in this situation is because of poverty, not having good jobs and not being well settled in their houses…others are going there because they would have heard of good job opportunities without necessarily scrutinizing these places.

We urge Zimbabweans to scrutinise job offers from abroad so that they cannot fall victim to human trafficking.

We also urge citizens to consult our law enforcement agents with regard to information about foreign countries that would have offered jobs to them.

115 New Cases (All local) and 1 Death reported today. (7-day rolling average* for new cases falls to 155 from 177 (yesterday). 6 of the new cases reported today are from outbreaks detected in schools in Mashonaland Central (3) and Mashonaland West (3).

Vaccination Update: 77 681 received the 1st dose today bringing cumulative for 1st dose to 5 049 222, 8 763 received their 2nd dose bringing cumulative for 2nd dose to 3 507 194 while 18 925 received their 3rd dose bringing cumulative for 3rd dose to 307 608.

Today we are happy to report that 77 681 people county-wide received their 1st dose bringing the cumulative doses to 5 049 222.

As of 28 March 2022, @1500hrs there were (32) hospitalized cases: New Admissions (3), Asymptomatic (4), mild to moderate (26), severe (2) and (0) in Intensive Care Units. 15 of the 32 hospitalized were vaccinated and 17 were not vaccinated.

3 334 tests were done today (Positivity today was (4.0%)

249 new recoveries: National Recovery rate remains at 96% & Active cases go down 3 059.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said primary education in public schools will be offered free of charge starting next year.

In his weekly article published by the publication, Mnangagwa also said the Government plans to equip primary school learners with electronic gadgets such as tablets to facilitate e-learning. He said:

The government will push for phased access to universal free education wholly funded by the State.

We must make primary education free and universal next year, in 2023.

This entails more than the Government just taking over the payment of school fees for all pupils in primary school.

Each primary school-going child has to have access to a tablet at Government’s expense.

Equally, primary schools will have to have access to electricity and electronic signals for online teaching.

How will the Government fund free universal education?

Mnangagwa said his administration has several options on the table. He said:

We have several options. We could fund this programme directly through budget allocations to concerned ministries.

We could also approach funding through resources devolved to our provinces.

Equally, we could target communities and learners through Constituency Development Funds.

Lastly, we could develop a hybrid model from all three avenues.

Whichever route we take, it must be efficient and deliver on results we want to see in the shortest possible time.
