Popular SABC 2 soapie Muvhango has announced the departure of one of its oldest serving actors, Elsie Rasalanavho.

At the celebration of its 25th birthday at SABC studios in Auckland Park on Thursday, 7 April, the soapie announced that Elsie, who plays the role of Vho-Mukondeleli, was leaving.

She took to the stage in song with the cast and crew, and shared on her journey with Muvhango.

“My journey wasn’t that easy because I was a teacher. I had to teach children and during weekends, act. On Friday afternoons, I would take a bus to Joburg. It was hectic because when I went back on Sunday, I had to go to school on Monday. But somehow, I managed,” she said.

She added that during holidays when other people were resting she was shooting for Muvhango.

“I couldn’t have done this without the support of my colleagues, executive producer, and production house.”

Elsie said she would miss her co-actresses Regina Nesengani (Vho-Masindi) and Eunice Mabeta (Vho-Makhadzi), who are close to her.

“My sisters, I’ll miss our lunchtime; sharing food. We even shared scripts and modified them to bring them out the way we thought it would work,” she said.

Founder and executive producer of the show Duma Ka Ndlovu said: “I thank South Africa for giving me the opportunity to tell stories. The best of Muvhango was not easy, and most of the struggles people don’t know about. I was coming from the USA; back from exile. There was a lot of animosity. I became the king of understatement.

“I’m grateful to viewers and for the fact that on any show we watch today, there’s at least one actor from Muvhango. We wanted to transform television, and we did. I thank God, who gave us the dream and vision. I thank the cast and crew that I have worked with all these years,” he said.

This recipe came from a friend and it is fantastic. I was in Poland in August and enjoyed the bread there so I was glad when I received this recipe. Everyone asks me for the recipe.

Cook: 45 mins
Additional: 2 hrs
Total: 3 hrs 30 mins
Prep: 45 mins
Servings: 30
Yield: 6 loaves

Ingredients:

– 5 packages of active dry yeast
– 2 cups lukewarm water, divided
– 1-quart whole milk
– 1 cup butter, cut into pieces
– 1 ½ cup superfine sugar
– 2 tablespoons of salt
– 1 teaspoon of salt
– 10 eggs, room temperature
– 5 pounds of bread flour

Directions / Instructions:

Step 1

Dissolve yeast packages in 1 cup of warm water; set aside.

Step 2

Bring milk to a boil. Remove from heat; add remaining 1 cup water, butter, and 2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon of salt; stir until butter melts. Pour in the sugar and stir until dissolved.

Step 3

When the milk mixture has cooled to lukewarm, stir in dissolved yeast.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, beat eggs until combined. Whisk milk mixture into eggs. Gradually add 5 pounds of flour. Transfer dough to a floured work surface, and use a serrated knife to divide dough in half. Shape each half into a ball and place the dough in two large oiled bowls. Cover with greased plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for about 1 1/2 hours.

Step 5

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).

Step 6

Once risen, turn the dough out onto a well-floured surface and divide it into 6 equal portions. Shape the dough into balls. (Dough will be very sticky and soft at this point.) Keep the dough covered with greased plastic wrap while you divide one dough ball into 3 pieces. Shape the dough into three ropes, braid them together, and place them on a lightly greased baking sheet or parchment-lined baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining loaves. You should be able to fit two loaves per baking sheet.

Step 7

Bake loaves in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until hollow-sounding when tapped on top. Let cool, and enjoy!

Sthembiso “SK” Khoza‘s father told the publication he’s in Gauteng to find his son.

“Like everybody, else I’ve seen my son’s strange behaviour on social media,” he said.

As a caring father, Stanley Khoza left his home in KZN and came to Gauteng to look for his son, SK, whose best known as Shaka on the popular soapie The Queen.

From the videos that have been making the rounds, SK is trying to fight with people using his karate skills, or is simply acting strangely.

In one video, he is raving and ranting while a friend tries to restrain him.

Stanley said SK isn’t at his place and he’s hoping his search will yield results.

Stanley has also accepted help from sangoma Mkhulu Nkunzebomvu.

The popular gobela said he offered his services to help the Khozas because he was trained as a karateka by SK’s dad.

“I’ve asked Stanley to bring SK to me so I can assist him free of charge,” said Nkunzebomvu.

Like many other izangoma and social media users, people have been accusing SK’s baby mama and sangoma Dr Maweni of being behind the actor’s strange behaviour.

He accused Maweni of allegedly having used muthi called izizwe namabutho.

He said this muthi was hard to get rid of.

“You burn it with charcoal and state whatever you want,” he said.

Nkunzebomvu also said a lot of women izangoma have a tendency of being emotional and use bad muthi to fight their battles.

“She should have filed for maintenance like other women but she chose to take the wrong route,” he said.

The publication spoke to Dr Maweni, who distanced herself from SK’s behaviour.

She said she’s a traditional doctor solely focused on healing people and empowering women.

“I wish the best for Mr Khoza in order to happily co-parent our beautiful child,” she said.

Tunisians on Sunday protested against President Kais Saied, accusing him of imposing one-man rule in the North African country after he dissolved parliament last month.

A political crisis in the country intensified last month when more than half of the members of parliament held an online session to revoke Saied’s decrees.

“We are facing a failed dictatorship that is leading the country to an economic disaster.. We will continue to protest in the streets until a coup is forced to reverse its decisions,” Chaima Issa, an activist, said.

Many members of parliament participated in the protest on Sunday, which took place with a heavy presence of anti-riot police. Protesters chanted: “The people want to overthrow the coup.”

“We will continue to resist the coup and we will not retreat. We will not accept this dictatorship,” Samira Chaouchi, one of two deputy speakers of parliament, said.

After last month’s online session, which Saied dissolved, anti-terrorism police summoned the main opposition figure Rached Ghannouchi and other lawmakers for questioning, prompting criticism from abroad as well as at home.

Ghannouchi, who is the parliament’s speaker and head of Islamist Ennahda party, said other virtual sessions would be convened.

A delegation from the European Parliament will visit Tunisia on Monday to urge the return of the democracy established after the 2011 revolution that ended the autocratic rule of the late President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.

Saied, took control of executive power in the middle of last year and has ruled by decree, which his opponents describe as a coup.

He has rejected his opponents accusations and said he would hold talks on political reforms, but that “traitors and thieves” would not participate.
Saied has previously said he would form a committee to rewrite the constitution, put it to a referendum in July and then hold parliamentary elections in December.

The country’s two main parties Ennahda and Free Constitutional, which are bitterly opposed, have both said they will oppose those plans.

Will Smith says he will “accept and respect the Academy’s decision” to ban him from the Oscars for a decade on Friday. The “King Richard” star will take his punishment from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences without any protest after he slapped Chris Rock after he made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s alopecia at the 94th Academy Awards last month. The 53-year-old actor told Page Six: “I accept and respect the Academy’s decision.”

Will – who took home the Best Actor gong at the 2022 award ceremony moments after the incident – had already apologised to the 57-year-old comic and resigned from the industry body but today the consequences were extended.

In a letter authored by the Academy’s president David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson condemned Will’s “unacceptable and harmful behaviour”.
It read: “The 94th Oscars were meant to be a celebration of the many individuals in our community who did incredible work this past year; however, those moments were overshadowed by the unacceptable and harmful behaviour we saw Mr. Smith exhibit on stage.

“During our telecast, we did not adequately address the situation in the room. For this, we are sorry.
This was an opportunity for us to set an example for our guests, viewers and our Academy family around the world, and we fell short — unprepared for the unprecedented.”

The statement concluded: “Today, the Board of Governors convened a meeting to discuss how best to respond to Will Smith’s actions at the Oscars, in addition to accepting his resignation.

China’s financial centre of Shanghai reported more than 25 000 new coronavirus infections as authorities began on Monday to shape an exit plan from a lockdown of its 25 million residents, many of them chafing at the human cost of such quarantines.

Some areas are struggling to find food and medicine after spending more than three weeks locked down in China’s battle to contain its biggest COVID-19 outbreak since coronavirus was first discovered in central Wuhan in late 2019.

As it tries to get parts of the city moving again, the government has divided residential units into three categories. These consist of 7 624 areas that are still sealed off, while a group of 2 460 is subject to “controls” after a week of no new infections, and 7 565 “prevention areas” that have been opened up after two weeks of no positive cases.

City government official Gu Honghui said Shanghai would make “dynamic” adjustments to the residential classification system as he vowed greater efforts to minimise the impact of curbs on ordinary people living in China’s most populous city.

“We also hope all citizens and friends will continue to support and cooperate with the city’s epidemic prevention and control work,” Gu told a news briefing.

Those living in “prevention areas” can now move around their neighbourhoods, but must observe social distancing and could be sealed off again if there are new infections, he added.

However, a “dynamic clearance” policy remains Shanghai’s “best option”, said Liang Wannian, the head of the National Health Commission’s working group on COVID-19.

It was misleading to characterise Omicron as “big flu” and lowering China’s guard would expose its huge elderly population to risk, especially as the virus mutates, Liang said on a visit to the southern city.

“If we lie flat, the epidemic would just be a disaster for these kinds of vulnerable people,” the People’s Daily newspaper of the ruling Communist Party quoted Liang as saying. The city faces pressure not only to curb local transmissions but halt the spread to other regions, he added.

Shanghai added 25 173 new asymptomatic infections on Sunday, up from 23 937 the previous day, although symptomatic cases edged down to 914 from 1 006.

Simphiwe Ngema

In 2017, Simphiwe Ngema and Dumi Masilela tied the knot in a traditional wedding that trended for days. To the general public, their love story seemed so pure and sincere and they were definitely couple goals for a lot of people.

A few months later, Dumi was tragically murdered in a botched hijacking in Tembisa which resulted in Simz being a widow.
