An investigating officer in the Tapiwa Makore murder case has implicated one of the suspects Tafadzwa Shamba alleging that he was hired to kill the boy by his uncle Tapiwa Makore Senior to boost his cabbage farming business.

Detective Inspector Joromiah Madimbu told the court that the accused voluntarily showed them where he had killed the seven-year-old boy and where he had dumped some of the body parts.

Detective Inspector Mudimbu also told the court that Shamba had told them he was instructed by Tapiwa Makore Senior to kill his nephew as he intended to use his blood in a ritual that would boost his cabbage farming business.

However, another witness Ms Joina Tangirira changed her original statement saying she had no reason to believe that Shamba was the killer despite claiming earlier that she had questioned the taste of the meat she bought from Shamba on the day Tapiwa was murdered.

Tangirira becomes the second witness to change her original statement after Julia Kamunda was declared a hostile witness after she denied the contents of the statement she gave to the police.

The deceased was allegedly murdered by his uncles two years ago in Murehwa for suspected ritual purposes.

His body was later found dismembered with the head and limbs missing.

Four suspects Tafadzwa Shamba, Tapiwa Makore Senior, Moud Hunidzarira and Thanks Makore are facing trial for the young boy’s murder.

The trial continued this Thursday.

Gokwe-Nembudziya legislator Justice Mayor Wadyajena has applied for the dropping of fraud charges laid against him and his company, arguing there is no link with what allegedly transpired at the Cotton Company of Zimbabwe.

Wadyajena, through his legal counsel argued that the State failed to link him and his company, Mayor Logistics, to the alleged offence where it is alleged that the Cotton Company of Zimbabwe (COTTCO) lost over US$5 million through fraudulent means at the instigation of the legislator and his co-accused.

The Gokwe-Nembudziya legislator is jointly charged with COTTCO managing director Pius Manamike, Head of Marketing, Operations, Ginning and Logistics, Maxmore Njanji and Procurement Specialist Fortunate Molai as well as Pierpont Moncroix director Chiedza Danha.

Wadyajena argued that from the onset he did not concede to be placed on remand and showed the protest by notifying the court that he would make an application for refusal of further remand.

He further argued that there is no link between him and the other accused persons with whom he is jointly charged, hence it is not suitable for him to remain on remand for the charges of fraud and money laundering.

Danha also made the same application, arguing that she challenged her placement on remand from the first appearance arguing that it is unconstitutional.

The presiding magistrate is expected to make a ruling on the matter by the 21st of this month.

Meanwhile, another freedom bid by Citizens Coalition for Change legislators Job Sikhala and Godfrey Sithole flopped again after the application was dismissed this Wednesday.

The magistrate noted that the application had no merit as nothing has changed since they were arrested.

The duo is accused of inciting public violence in Nyatsime area of Chitungwiza after encouraging their party supporters to avenge the death of Moreblessing Ali.

Omonia Nicosia 2 – 3 Manchester United

An inspired substitute performance from Marcus Rashford earned Manchester United a nervy Europa League win over Omonia Nicosia.

The Cypriot side took a shock lead into halftime through Karim Ansarifard.

United manager Erik Ten Hag introduced Rashford at the interval and he scored eight minutes later before setting up fellow sub-Antony Martial to finish.

Rashford made it 3-1 late on before Nikolas Panayiotou pulled one back on an unexpectedly edgy night for United.

Following United’s chastening derby defeat at the weekend, Ten Hag made three changes with the headline being the return of Cristiano Ronaldo in place of Rashford up front.

However, it was ultimately the English forward who saved his side from an embarrassing defeat, while Ronaldo spurned several chances to score his 700th club career goal.

Up against the Red Devils was an Omonia line-up which featured few star names – and with just one win in their past 26 European games – but managed by former Celtic boss Neil Lennon who had clearly emphasised effort and discipline.

The visitors made all the running in the first half an hour – nine shots and around 80 per cent possession – but the Cypriots stood up well and took their chance when it came.

United’s clearest chance came on 17 minutes when Antony was played through and tried to square the ball for Bruno Fernandes to score an open goal with keeper Fabiano committed. However, the £87m Brazilian winger played the ball too far behind his team-mate.

Fernandes hit the crossbar with a chipped effort a minute later, and shortly after Fabiano brilliantly denied a 25-yard effort from Antony before Iran striker Ansarifard struck.

United overcommitted at a corner, allowing a three-on-one Omonia breakaway with striker Bruno carrying the ball nearly 50 yards. The Brazilian played in Ansarifard, and the former Nottingham Forest striker superbly finished into the roof of the net.

The boisterous Nicosia crowd celebrated wildly and United was visibly rattled, leading to Ten Hag making a double half-time change with Rashford and Luke Shaw replacing Tyrell Malacia and the ineffective Jadon Sancho.

It paid off eight minutes after the restart – Rashford was released by a raking ball down the left by Fernandes, Ronaldo’s run drew the defence and the England international had time and space to curl beyond Fabiano.

Ten Hag then introduced Martial after the hour, and he combined with Rashford to put his side ahead.

Martial’s second touch of the game began with a flicked one-two with Rashford, the third saw him finish with power a shot past Fabiano at the near post.

Ronaldo meanwhile continued to struggle, his clearest opening coming when Diogo Dalot pulled the ball back to him eight yards out with Fabiano stranded, but somehow he contrived to hit the post.

Instead, Ronaldo had to settle with an assist for United’s third and Rashford’s second, firing a low cross into the six-yard area for a tap-in.

Spirited Omonia was not done yet though, reducing the deficit almost straight away as Panayiotou turned a tricky bouncing cross home with his left foot.

United saw the game out but remains second in Group E after Real Sociedad won 2-0 in Sheriff – meaning a play-off against a team dropping out of the Champions League to reach the knockout stages remains a possibility.

Stanford University student killed in road accident on Zimbabwe visit

Tinotenda “Tino” Nyandoro, a junior with a passion for expanding education access, died on Sept. 12 in a car accident in his native Zimbabwe. He was 23 years old.

Friends and faculty remembered Nyandoro as charismatic, jovial and outspoken, the type of person who loved talking to people in whatever environment he was in.

Nyandoro, one of seven children, grew up near Harare, Zimbabwe in the Mashonaland West province, which is located in the northern region of Zimbabwe. He attended high school in the nearby Mudzi District, though his road to graduation was not easy: At one point, he temporarily dropped out due to his family’s financial challenges, which necessitated that he take on a part-time job.

After graduating high school in 2018, he took a gap year to work full-time and pay his siblings’ school fees before getting accepted to Stanford on a full scholarship in 2020.

When Nyandoro arrived at Stanford, he was greeted by a bleak, empty campus — it was the fall of 2020, and most students were at home. That quarter, he took COLLEGE 101: “Why College? Your Education and the Good Life, which he wrote later in a Daily article, was one of his favorite classes.

French professor and COLLEGE Program Director Dan Edelstein, who taught the course, said he worried the bizarre pandemic environment and Nyandoro’s move to the States might prove difficult and isolating, but he soon discovered he had nothing to worry about.

“He was just such a dream student because he just was committed and found that, despite being stuck in his room, he was having the time of his life,” Edelstein said.

Edelstein said Nyandoro thrived in the class, often showing his professor all the books he’d checked out by the authors they were reading in class and asking to discuss them together. “He would bring that excitement, that spark, this sort of freshness to the questions and the topics we were studying, and everybody could feel it,” Edelstein remembered.

Edelstein said what inspired him most about Nyandoro was how deeply he took what he was learning in class to heart. Like most students, Edelstein said, Nyandoro came into college unsure of what he wanted to do, but he hoped to be successful enough to be financially comfortable.

As the class progressed, Edelstein said Nyandoro realized how much he wanted to learn and grow through his college experience so he could give back to his community and lead a life of purpose.

“He’s my inspiration that [educating] is always worth doing and trying, even if it gets difficult at times,” Edelstein said, adding that he often thinks of Nyandoro as he teaches the same class this year.

Friends agreed that Nyandoro saw his Stanford education as a way to give back to those who didn’t have the same opportunities that he had. His friends have since put together a GoFundMe to support the education initiatives he pioneered during his life.

“He was always thinking about how can I give back, how can I create opportunities for the underserved, for their needs,” said Takudwza Caitano ’23, whose friendship with Nyandoro started online when he was first accepted to Stanford in 2020 and strengthened last year when both students were on campus.

Throughout his time at Stanford, Nyandoro was the breadwinner for his family, financially supporting the education of his siblings alongside around twenty other students in his community, his friends said.

Whenever he could, noted his close friend Proud Mpala ’24, Nyandoro would go back to Zimbabwe, returning every break and even spending his freshman spring quarter in the country. Mpala recalled Nyandoro calling him from the most remote parts of Zimbabwe where he would go talk to teachers and offer the resources that he could.

His selflessness and passion for education culminated in his most recent project, Project Regenerate. With funding from the Donald A. Strauss fellowship, which selects students from universities in California to lead a high-impact public service project during their junior or senior year, Nyandoro founded an organization that sought to design a curriculum to help students in the Mudzi District with college applications. The district is where he attended high school, and 70% of students there do not attend a post-secondary institution. Nyandoro planned to train 30 high school teachers through the project so they could help over 300 students complete college applications.

In addition to his entrepreneurship, Nyandoro worked at Stanford’s Tech Desk, spent time at the Center for African Studies, studied abroad in Cape Town, worked a Cardinal Quarter and volunteered with churches on campus.

But friends said he always found time for fun, whether frequenting his favorite bar in Palo Alto, The Patio, or discussing politics and philosophy with patrons at his preferred restaurants.

Before his passing, Mpala recalled taking a trip to Boston with Nyandoro. The two found themselves at a social gathering where, at one point, Nyandoro had managed to pull everyone at the party and got them to listen to the stories he was sharing. Mpala was always struck by Nyandoro’s ability to influence and engage people.

Dumisile Mphamba ’21, Nyandoro’s friend and freshman year resident assistant, said, “He was also what I like to describe as a hustler.”

Caitano agreed, adding, “Tino always managed to navigate through situations where there was no way out. He’d always find a way out, which was kind of comical, but it was also kind of inspiring.”

Caitano fondly remembered a time when, on his birthday, a tipsy Nyandoro was banned from a club for thanking his friends for the great night he had had a little too loudly in his native Shona — the bouncer thought he was yelling at and offending the police officer in front of him. The next day, his friends wanted to return to the club, but they reminded Nyandoro he could not come because he was banned. Fifteen minutes later, Nyandoro told them they would all be going to the club because he had called the owner and had sorted the situation out. When they arrived at the club, the owner was there and got them free drinks throughout the night.

Caitano said he could never remember Nyandoro being angry or sad. Instead, he was always smiling, laughing and dancing.

Mphamba said, “A big part of his [Nyandoro’s] impact was showing people how much there is to enjoy in life, even despite whatever challenges you may be facing.”

Nyandoro also inspired Mphamba, and others surrounding him, to give back to their home communities and to always make time for what was most important in their lives. Mpala continues to be amazed by Nyandoro’s proactiveness: “He was a practical person, if he said, ‘I’m doing this,’ literally the next day he was doing it,” Mpala said.

Edelstein said he has been able to find comfort in the life Nyandoro did lead before his passing: “The only, incredibly meager, consolation that I’ve been able to find in this unbelievably sad story is that he was so happy, he wasn’t postponing his life, he was living the life that he wanted to be living.”

KZN mom who dumped her baby in the bush hands herself in

A 23-year-old mother who abandoned her baby in bush in Verulam — with a note asking others not to judge her — handed herself over to the police on Thursday.

The woman came forward three days after she left her three-month-old baby next to a stream in Dawncrest.

“The woman was arrested after she handed herself into the SAPS following a public outcry on social media platforms in SA. The young mom was charged and appeared in the Verulam magistrate’s court today [Thursday] and was granted bail of R500,” said Reaction Unit SA’s (Rusa) Prem Balram.

He said the matter was remanded to November 10.

Rusa officers were called to the scene on Monday when a mango picker found the abandoned baby.

The mother left a note and a bag containing nappies, a bottle and pacifier.

The note said: “Hi. You might be wondering why I dumped my baby. Don’t wonder, just help her if you can or call authorities. But don’t judge me. I have spoken twice with social workers, they [are] delaying to assist.

“I know this looks bad but I had no [other] option. The system is fragile … and we can’t even abort safely any more … hospitals have strict rules.”

KwaZulu-Natal department of social development spokesperson Mhlaba Memela said the child was with Verulam Child Welfare and Family Society.

Students arrested for demonstrating against teacher exodus

Two earners at a private school in Entumbane suburb were last week arrested for leading a demonstration against a teacher exodus at the school.

The learners were picked up by police officers patrolling the suburb last Tuesday morning.
Scores of pupils partaking in the demonstration took to their heels leaving the ring leaders in handcuffs.

The school head boy and another Form Four pupil were arrested.

The school is called Pacesetters Private College and is housed on the premises of the Roman Catholic Church in Entumbane suburb.

School principal Marshal Gwede, who also doubles as the Geography and Combined Science teacher, laid the blame on the pupils for not following the right channels to express their grievances.

“What happened last Tuesday is very sad and will not be tolerated by the school. As the school principal I was left heartbroken that two pupils were arrested during the demonstration and I wish they had followed the right channels if they felt something was not right at the school,” said Gwede.

Asked what pushed the learners to demonstrate, Gwede said they were aggrieved that teachers had been leaving en masse from the learning institution.

“Four teachers left in July because they felt that the environment was not conducive for them to continue working at the school and there was nothing that the school could do to stop them from leaving,” he said.

Pressed on how the environment at the school was unconducive leading to the teacher exodus, Gwede declined comment.

B-Metro visited the school this week. The school is just a single block with two groups each of Form 3s and Form 4s divided into ‘classes’.

There is no partitioning to divide each different class into a separate room for, at least, some kind of privacy for a teacher to conduct lessons on a particular subject with his/her group of learners.

Gwede claimed resources were being pooled to divide the single block into four separate rooms for each individual teacher to conduct lessons in a closed space.

A resident of Entumbabe suburb, whose house is situated about 100 metres from the school, said he woke up to chanting by learners carrying hand written placards.

“The group of Form Four learners were carrying placards written ‘Respect our education’, ‘We want teachers’, ‘Our education is important’ and so forth and they were singing and chanting at the Roman Catholic Church gate.

“We have heard stories that some teachers do not stay at the school for more than a month and leave because they are not paid their salaries in full.

“While the learners were in the middle of the demonstration, two police officers ran after the ring leaders and arrested the head boy and another pupil,” said Malakhi Mhlanga.

Asked about the fate of the arrested learners, Gwede said the boys were back in class and no charges were laid against them.

“It was a huge misunderstanding and I would like to apologise to the parents of the pupils,” he added.

A 42-year-old police constable was lucky to sustain only a flesh wound after a suspect he confronted opened fire, riddling the police vehicle with bullets, police said.

Provincial police spokesperson Brig Selvy Mohlala said a 34-year-old suspect from Witbank was arrested and is expected to make his first appearance before the Hendrina magistrate’s court on Friday.

He faces charges of attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm with ammunition.

“The suspect was found in possession of a firearm with the serial number filed off and 11 rounds of live ammunition,” Mohlala said.

Mohlala said police received a tipoff about four suspicious-looking people in a park behind the post office in Hendrina.

“Police headed to the location to investigate. Immediately after the suspicious-looking people saw police approaching, they started running,” he said.

Mohlala said police pursued them, and one suspect took out a firearm and started shooting at the officer.

“ A constable, was grazed by the bullet on his leg and the police vehicle was riddled with bullets.”

A tiny throwback to an absolutely perfect day. My ‘almost’ surprise baby shower. I say almost because I am such a control-freak, it was difficult to surprise me but my loved ones pulled it off.

The former Scandal actress also showed some love to her loved ones.

We are so blessed to have the people we have in our lives, you know yourselves; thank you for making this day so special & for allowing us to enjoy it in private; I know it was a tall order. Anyway, here are some captured moments; perhaps I’ll post more.

Stephanie Ndlovu and her husband Hungani Ndlovu confirmed the birth of their baby in a recent YouTube video.

Stephanie first hinted that she had given birth through an Instagram post before confirming the news on their YouTube channel, The Ndlovus Uncut.

“Mama Getting back into the swing of things is wholeheartedly the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do but I am trying to exercise patience & kindness with myself, being present in every moment on this new journey.”

The actress was in awe over God’s timing and how she felt when she was told she was pregnant.that

“I feel like it was God’s timing when the gynecologist told me she thinks I’m pregnant, I then did two tests immediately and they came back positive and immediately we rushed to the gynecologist,” said Stephanie.

“The journey of just going up and down and sideways was so taxing. What I love about the story is what it has done for us and to us because where we were before compared to now,” added Hungani.

Leader of fringe political party’ the Alliance for People’s Agenda (APA), Nkosana Moyo, has stepped down from the helm of the opposition outfit and will not be running for presidency in next year’s elections.

According to the party, Moyo will be replaced by secretary general Albert Gumbo pending the appointment of a substantive leader who will likely contest in 2023 elections.

“APA wishes to announce that Dr Nkosana Moyo is standing down as President and will, therefore, not be running in the Presidential elections in 2023,” the party indicated in a statement.

“Dr Moyo has continued with his far reaching and ground breaking work with the Mandela Institute for Development Studies (MINDS).

“MINDS recently participated in the CHOGM summit in Rwanda and is deepening its work across the continent.

“Per its constitution, APA will be led by Secretary General, Albert Gumbo, together with the NEC, until a new President is elected. Dr Moyo remains a member of APA.”

Moyo is a former cabinet minister who served under the late President Robert Mugabe heading the Ministry of Industry and International Trade.

He fell out of favour with the late ruler, Mugabe, who once labelled him ‘coward’ after his sudden resignation from the cabinet.

Moyo was part of 23 presidential aspirants in the 2018 general elections.

He snubbed the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD) IN 2019 accusing the platform as insincere in solving a myriad of country’s problems.

Musa Mseleku on how much he spends on groceries for his 4 wives

South African polygamist, Musa Mseleku has opened up about how much he spends on his wives’ individual households.

He was a recent guest on Old Mutual’s Head of Financial Education with host John Manyike. In the episode, he spoke about his finances and how he provides for his four wives.

He revealed to the host that he spends roughly R30 000 on groceries.

“Look at it like this, the basics like oil and things like that come up to around R4 500. Then you add cleaning materials then you get up to R 6 000,” he said.

“I may be underestimating, per household. Then you multiply for each household, which gets you to the R30 000 range. If they don’t save the money they make, they will have a crisis,” he continued. “Let me put it like this, if you have a child who has an opportunity to make money while you’re still alive, that child must save their money.”

Musa and his 5th wife Thobile recently wed. “I’d describe it as a top-notch wedding. We truly enjoyed ourselves with African drinks and food. They kept it under wraps because it wasn’t just a wedding, but they were also filming the next season of Uthando Nesthembu, which is set to premiere before the end of this year,” said a source to Daily Sun.

Musa has been very vocal about getting a 5th wife but some of his current wives have been against it.

In an interview with TshisaLIVE he said he needs to get their collective agreement so he can do as he pleases, which is to marry a 5th woman.

“I have called a number of meetings both as a collective and individually, I’ve expressed the feeling that the request has been rejected. My plan is to keep presenting the same thing in a different way or persuade, up until I get a collective agreement in a sense that everyone is happy about it because I wouldn’t want anyone to leave me because of that decision,” he told the publication.

“I’m asking my wives to allow me to take a fifth wife, it’s no longer a question to me. I’m just waiting for them to say yes or no. And I’m doing it the modern way. If it was before, I’d be telling them that I’m taking,” he said.

He continued “The way it’s supposed to be done, is for me to engage with the first wife and tell her I intend to take a fifth wife and she would communicate with the other wives but in the modern times, it does not work that way because all the wives have to be treated equally.”

Musa Mseleku’s fifth wife MaCele set an ultimatum for Musa, “I gave Musa a timeframe to marry as many wives as possible but he had to do this before our 20th anniversary,” MaCele told Daily Sun.
