Zahara – S.e.x is the last thing on my mind

Many potential partners have been shown the door since Zahara broke up with her partner about a year ago. But wedding bells may soon be ringing because the Queen of Afro-pop may have found her Prince Charming. Rumours said the man who may have captured her heart is a pastor and there will be no s.e.x before the ceremony.

A source close to the Loliwe hitmaker told Daily Sun she may even get married before the end of the year, but there won’t be a lot of hype as Zahara wanted to keep the event low key. She wants it to be a perfect wedding with only a few invited guests,” said the source. Ever since she broke up with her ex, different men have come forward to express their feelings for her.

“I think this time she has found someone who matches her requirements. In November last year, Zahara told Daily Sun she was open to love. She said she didn’t care about looks, as long as he feared God.

The source could not say whether Mr Zahara was a pastor or not. She said he’s a churchgoer and makes her happy. Zahara, who was in Cape Town after a weekend performance, spoke to Daily Sun over the telephone.

Zahara

“Where did you get this now?” she said, laughing. Well, yes. I might get married soon. Maybe before the end of the year. But I can’t reveal who it is.” Asked if she was really abstaining from sex until after the wedding, she said: “I haven’t had sex since I broke up with my ex. S.e.x is the last thing on my mind. I think, yes, I’m now saving myself for marriage.

Zahara said her life was too busy for sex anyway. Said Zahara, whose real name is Bulelwa Mkutukana: “I’m busy preparing for the launch of the partnership between myself and Emperors Palace on 25 April. I will be their ambassador and I’m very excited about that. Such an opportunity has shown me that God always has a plan for His people. I’m very grateful. I really don’t want to talk much about my relationship for now.

Zambian army arrest Zimbabwean Pastor for drug smuggling

Zambian army arrest Zimbabwean Pastor for drug smuggling. Mount Zion Christian Centre is led by one controversial Reverend Bruce Msidi. Ncube is one of the prominent spiritual sons at Mount Zion Christian Centre (known as the Morehouse).

Zimbabwean born Pastor of Mount Zion Christian Centre in Zambia Kyka Ncube (also known as David Ncube) has been caught in the eye of the storm after he was dramatically intercepted and arrested by the Zambian Air Force for stealing copper and trying to smuggle drugs outside the country to an unknown destination, we exclusively reveal.

An eyewitness who spoke to this said Pastor David was arrested in a SWAT-style by the army officials, blindfolded and ferried to Lusaka where he has been languishing in prison since Sunday.

“Reverend Msidi’s spiritual son, Pastor David was arrested by the Zambian Air Force officials on Sunday in Mumbwa, “The source said. “He and his colleagues were accused of being actively involved in the theft of some copper. After a dramatic scuffle that attracted onlookers, they were eventually apprehended and blindfolded before being taken to Lusaka, using an army chopper, where they were interrogated on the charge.

“The officers also found an unspecified amount of weed and some narcotic tablets inside David’s car.” Information coming from Lusaka indicates that the tablets have been taken to the lab for testing. The Drug Enforcement Commission of Zambia has been brought to the matter and they are assisting the police with investigations.

Under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act of Zambia any person who, without lawful authority, imports or exports any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable upon conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding twenty years.

Commenting on the matter Civic Leadership Scholar Oborn Kapingu Mutapa said community leaders who are entrusted by the communities must never be found in a position where they betray public confidence.

“The case of the pastor is a cause for concern in the nation of Zambia because our country is a Christian nation and we look up to Christian leaders for direction,” Mutapa said. “When we the same people who are supposed to shepherd us being accused of engaging in such gross illicit activities of importing and exporting drugs and accused of theft of our natural resources, we get worried.

While the law say a person is innocent until proven guilty, the court of public opinion says the community is aggrieved by such acts especially when done by some rogue members of the clergy.”

The Council of Churches in Zambia is yet to speak on the matter and Reverend Msidi’s mobile number was unreachable at the time of publication.

Canada became the hub for thought-leaders of the tech industry

Information technology enthusiasts are aggressively fighting over the on-going high trends in need of IT talents all over the world. Labelled as one of the hottest jobs right now, many IT experts see themselves today fiercely battling for employees with competitive salaries and most exceptional perks. Canada, one of the top countries in the development of technological careers, has been the target of some of our great IT experts today.

The technology industry is currently one of the rising stars of Canada’s economic sectors, which continually grows. This has become the target of the Canadian government in attracting great IT talents all over the world. The government understands this as an opportunity to make Canada one of the most competitive countries in the world. With this, the government’s support continues to flourish. They have allotted a budget for a comprehensive Innovation and Skills Plan last 2020.

The time when everything changed in Canada

There was a time when Canada was not known as the technology hub. Everything changed by the approach of Canada’s government. Justin Trudeau, the leader of the Liberal party won the elections in 2015. Since then, Justin the leader of the government. The young Prime Minister’s idea was to set realistic goals for the whole country. As the Prime minister believes, technologies have to be the main advantage of Canada in the era of the new industrial revolution. What was Justin’s main goal? To establish financial technologies in the economy of Canada. The first step was the adoption of Bitcoin.

Bitcoin rise in the online gambling industry

In 2017, the world saw the rise of cryptocurrencies. Especially the first crypto-based currency, Bitcoin flew to the moon. The price has increased by 17 times and investors have lost their minds. People who knew nothing in cryptosystems started investing money in Bitcoin.

The gambling sector in Canada is very popular. The gambling sector has been legalized by the Canadian government since the 20th century. Along with the new industrial revolution, gambling sector operators have been implementing technological achievements. The biggest change happened when Bitcoin was legalized and implemented in the gambling sector. It was the first big industry in Canada that allowed Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Canada’s government helped companies in the gambling sector to enable transactions with the help of Bitcoin.

Bitcoin changed the course of the online gaming industry. The trend of Bitcoin casinos was the most trusted for Canadians and worldwide gamers. Bitcoin, in general, gives the freedom of international transactions. Banks, governments and financial institutions can’t control your crypto transactions. That’s why Bitcoin casino websites became the new hit in Canada’s economy. Bitcoin gave rise to secure iGaming platforms. Canada’s online bitcoin casinos give the chance to gamers to stay completely anonymous and keep transactions secure. Sending international transactions in a few seconds without any issues from banks and government is the biggest advantage of bitcoin gaming.

Since 2017, online gaming has set a record of contribution to the economy of the country. The role of the gambling sector, in general, has grown in the last decade.

Canada’s right approach to Bitcoin praised by investors

Leaders of different countries have an interesting approach to Bitcoin’s legality. Many countries don’t allow Bitcoin transactions legally in the country’s economy. Canada enabled Bitcoin transactions in 2017 but still, there is one main currency. Bitcoin is not the currency, it’s just the option for digital transactions. Canada’s government could only enable Bitcoin transactions in the country’s economy while Russia and EU countries have neglected Bitcoin’s idea. The billionaire Mark Cuban believes that Bitcoin is the future of money, so denied the reality is a very bad decision.

Tech talents attracted from other countries

Focus on technology and IT will help Canada become a place for a world-class innovation that will attract many of the skilled and educated workers around the globe. The government hopes to double the number of high- growth companies in Canada, most notably in the clean and healthy technology sector by the year 2025. The mandate of the Strategic Plan is the continuous encouragement of businesses to invest in the fast-growing innovative technology industries. This has been widely seen in British Columbia, where an amount of $26 billion was generated yearly – making it the fastest-growing technology sector in the country.

British Columbia’s technology sector is packed with 150, 000 people working for technology. Due to this, the province is attracting many international companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, Cisco, and Disney. With Amazon considering a space in Toronto for business ventures, the country-like province, British Columbia is firmly transmuting into an innovation nation, building an Al- driven economy.

Technology is a fast-growing, changing, and innovating tradition into something better and modern. Sectors of the society were moved and were greatly influenced by the technology-driven smart buildings, data collection mediums, and other visualization technologies. Having a group of a well-trained workforce to deal with the immensely changing technology is vital. Technology enthusiasts can expect a continuously growing Canada in the mainstream of technological innovations and advances. With the advancements made in technology, Canada’s ability to market their goods and other services appear to be better.

Terence Mukupe making headlines again: Mnangagwa would be clobbered by Chamisa. Ex- Minister and top ally to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Terence Mukupe says the Zanu-PF leader would lose a snap election to rival Nelson Chamisa after the under-fire Zimbabwean leader has done nothing for the country to justify his election as President in 2018.

Mukupe, once Harare East MP, said in a leaked voice recording that Zanu-PF has dumped its own constitution by summarily suspending Zanu-PF youth leaders Lewis Matutu and Godfrey Tsenengamu for claiming some top businessmen linked to Zanu-PF were corrupt.

'Mnangagwa would be clobbered by Chamisa,' says Mukupe

Prince Kaybee Prays For DJ Zinhle’s Mental Health

It’s funny how a week can change a man from being petty to being kind. Prince Kaybee is that miracle when he came for DJ Zinhle‘s defense after a troll came for her on social media.

Prince Kaybee was not having the cyber bullying that was directed at DJ Zinhle when she posted a picture, slaying us to pieces (as per usual). But a troll reared its ugly head and pointed out the most obscure thing to make fun of her for. According to Briefly.com, the tweet was posted and shortly deleted once Prince Kaybee retweeted and commented on the distasteful post.

URGH! This troll is clearly a bored clout chaser and upon closer observation on the trolls socials, he loves the attention. He has been retweeting the posts that agree with him and those that disagree with him.

Prince Kaybee

As for Prince Kaybee, we’re super impressed by his turn around from the last few weeks, where he had been fighting with Maphorisa about….everything? Going tit-for-tat over the pettiest things on social media.

The speculation that DJ Zinhle got involved and mediated the situation towards the tail end of the feud, must have had some truth to it because Prince Kaybee has taken to DJ Zinhle’s defense with the quickness and shortly after, the beef between Maphorisa and Prince Kaybee went a little quiet. But only a little.

Court: Kasukuwere is a free man and must get his title deeds

Court: Kasukuwere is a free man and must get his title deeds. The former local government minister Savior Kasukuwere was acquitted by Justice Tawanda Chitapi on corruption charges on August 21 last year, but the NPA sought to hold onto his title deeds on the basis that the former Zanu-PF political commissar had forfeited the property by skipping court which resulted in a magistrate issuing an arrest warrant.

Former local government minister Saviour Kasukuwere is a “free man” and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has no legitimate reason for holding onto the title deeds of a Vumba house he tendered as part of his bail conditions, a judge has ruled.

Justice David Mangota ruled on October 9 last year that the quashing of the charges meant Kasukuwere was entitled to his title deeds and bail money. The NPA wrote to the judge in November asking him to explain his reasoning.

On Monday this week, Justice Mangota delivered his written judgment in which he said the NPA had “no basis for continuing to hold onto the title deed of the applicant’s property.”

Justice Mangota said once the charges were quashed, all the proceedings at the Magistrate’s Court including the arrest warrant, fell away.

The judge explained: “The charges which the state preferred against the applicant formed the basis of his arrest and arraignment before the court. All the processes which followed were anchored on the apparent validity of the charges. The charges upon which the applicant’s prosecution was anchored were quashed. They became a nullity on which nothing flows.

“The quashing of the charges rendered everything which depended on them to collapse. Without a foundation upon which the subsequent processes depended, those processes fell to pieces. The squashing of the charges allowed the applicant to revert to the status quo ante his arrest. He became a free man who was entitled not only to the bail which he deposited with the court but also to the title deed of his property.

“He surrendered the same to the court as a way of gaining his freedom. He gained the same when the court quashed the charges.” Advocate Thembinkosi Magwaliba represented Kasukuwere while the NPA was represented by Zivanai Macharaga who showed a “lack of interest” and took a “lackadaisical approach” by failing to support their bid to retain Kasukuwere’s property, according to the judge.

Kasukuwere lost his ministerial position after the military staged a coup that ousted the late former president Robert Mugabe in November 2017. The new regime of President Emmerson Mnangagwa has targeted former Mugabe loyalists for arrest on corruption charges, forcing many to flee into exile. Kasukuwere now lives in South Africa.

Report: Tsenengamu seeks Muchinguri’s protection

Report: Tsenengamu seeks Muchinguri’s protection. Embattled former ZANU PF Youth Political Commissar Godfrey Tsenengamu says he does not recognize the decision taken by the Politburo to suspend him because it was done outside the constitution of the party.

Writing on Facebook Tsenengamu suggested that he is ready to subject himself to the disciplinary process and not to political structures

“Which party procedure are you referring to which gives the PB powers to handle disciplinary matters? Which procedure are you talking of which gives PEC and PCC to deal with disciplinary matters?” Tsenengamu said. ” Do you even know what the constitution says about all that? Am not even bothered about getting expelled for my conscience is clear. Take your time to read and appreciate the party constitution.”

Oppah Muchinguri is the Chairman of ZANU PF National Disciplinary hearing by virtue of her position. There have been reports that Tsenengamu is a runner for a new faction led by Muchinguri hence his bravery to attend the disciplinary process.

Tseenngamu added that he is not bothered by ZANU PF leaders who are abusing their positions to implement decisions outside the constitution and he was willing to fight them.

“ZANU PF as an institution will never go in the wrong direction but certain individuals will definitely do. If you take your time to read and understand the party constitution you will see no reason in opposing it but the problem comes with some individuals who think that because they are in leadership positions then they can ditch the constitution and do as they wish. That I will oppose vehemently.

“I am not bothered about getting support from those who see no wrong in corruption and evil cartels. Keep your support. I am not even bothered about the numbers that will support the fight for this is not an election. Only political parties do worry about numbers.” He added.

Govt gets tough on visitors from affected countries: Produce Coronavirus medical clearance or get deported. The cabinet has approved stringent measures to ensure there is no outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus (Covid-19) in the country. Visitors from affected countries will be asked to produce valid medical clearance certificates showing that they are negative from the contagious virus.

Coronavirus first broke out in the Chinese city of Wuhan and has since spread to other countries killing over 3 000 people. The said medical clearance certificates should show that the visitors were examined for symptoms and tested for Covid-19 at a Government designated institution in their country. Those who fail to produce the certificates will be immediately deported.

So far, over 6 000 people have been screened for the virus at ports of entry especially the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport. Health and Child Care Minister Dr Obadiah Moyo said Government was taking the tough measures to ensure Zimbabwe was not affected by the virus.

“Those who come without medical certificates showing that they were examined by Government doctors from their countries of origin, we will simply say ‘thank you for the visit but we are sending you back’,” said Dr Moyo.

“We are doing this to ensure that we don’t have people who bring Coronavirus in our country. We will take all stringent measures to ensure that we don’t have Coronavirus in Zimbabwe.”

There has not been a case of coronavirus in the country thus far. Minister of Information, Monica Mutsvangwa said the two suspected Covid-19 patients who had been flagged down at the airport tested negative and were discharged. She reiterated that the government would continue to monitor them.

Flash floods to hit central Zimbabwe

$

Flash floods to hit central Zimbabwe. This has seen the Department of Civil Protection making $5 million available in areas prone to flash flooding to ensure speedy reaction should there be serious flooding. The money is mainly to ensure rescue vehicles are functioning and fuel is available.

Some areas in Zimbabwe are likely to see flash floods as heavy rains falling across parts of Southern Africa over the last six days escalate today, with some areas in central Zimbabwe expected to receive over 50 millimetres in one day and in exceptional cases up to 100mm in 24 hours.

A forecast by Southern African Development Community Climate Services has predicted a greater likelihood of heavy rains in many parts of the region, including central Zimbabwe.  While Harare and other areas yesterday received gentle showers, Mutare, Hurungwe, Tsholotsholo and Lions Den have had heavier rains since last Thursday.

In a statement, the Climate Services Department said: “Central-eastern Angola, north-western Botswana, Comoros, central-to-south-eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, northern Madagascar, northern Malawi, Mauritius, north-eastern Mozambique, central-to-north-eastern Namibia, central and northern parts of United Republic of Tanzania, central South Africa, north and southern of Zambia and central Zimbabwe have a high probability to receive heavy rainfall above 50mm in 24 hours during the forecast period from February 27 to March 4, 2020.

“There are indications that rainfall amounts may exceed 100mm in 24 hours. These rains are likely to result in localised flooding in certain areas.” A flash flood can occur after heavy rains when run-off is high. Usually, they subside very quickly once rains stop and rivers and drains can carry the excess run-off away. Flatter areas with poor drainage are the most susceptible to such floods.

In an interview yesterday, Department of Civil Protection director Mr Nathan Nkomo said the SADC forecast had been taken seriously and all departmental units had been put on high alert.

“We received the SADC forecast which is advice for units like us to be on the look-out for natural disasters like flash floods,” he said. “We took the forecast seriously and we are closely monitoring rainfall activities in all areas around central Zimbabwe.” Mr Nkomo said the forecast of over 100mm of rain becomes “very worrisome”.

As a precautionary measure, the department has distributed funds to flood-prone areas like Manicaland, Mashonaland Central and Matabeleland North. Manicaland got $4,5m, Mashonaland Central $100 000, Binga $350 000 and Matabeleland North $50 000.

The money is to ensure that all the civil protection units in the areas can swiftly respond to any flooding that might arise. The units need to ensure vehicles are serviced and that fuel is available

The department is continuing with awareness campaigns, especially in all areas where artisanal mining activities are rampant, as heavy rains have weakened the soil, making it dangerous for artisanal miners to go underground.

Said Mr Nkomo: “We have lost a number of lives in these areas and they need monitoring all the time. It might rain on the upper side of where these artisanal miners will be working on, resulting in water filling the pits. This can cause flooding of the pits or shafts.

“We also want to urge school authorities to continuously discourage the learners from attempting to cross flooded rivers. This also goes for kombi drivers and other public transport operators.”

A kombi was swept away when the driver attempted to cross a low-level bridge across the Karai River in Mbire District of Mashonaland Central last week, but all the passengers and the crew survived with minor injuries.

Mr Nkomo expressed concern over the high deaths caused by lightning across the country. The department is also checking the actual hectarage of crops damaged by floods and wind.

Dangote donates $550K to fight Coronavirus in Nigeria. The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) yesterday pledged a whooping sum of N200million about $550K to support the current effort of the Nigerian government towards curbing the spread of Corona Virus or Covid-19 in the country.

ADF’s intervention is considered the largest single donation by a corporate organization in the country to contain the spread of coronavirus since Nigeria recorded its first index case last month in Lagos, Nigeria.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Aliko Dangote Foundation Ms Zouera Youssoufou, represented by the Health and Nutrition Programme Officer Maryam Shehu-Buhari, at a donor coordinating meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, said the donation was part of the Foundation’s cardinal objective of partnering with governments at all levels against the dreaded disease in Nigeria and the rest of Africa.

The Foundation is also the only Nigerian donor that attended the meeting and made a monetary pledge.

To this extent, she said the Aliko Dangote Foundation has earmarked N124million that will support facilities to help prevent, assess and respond to health events at Point of Entry to ensure National Health Security.

Ms Youssoufou also highlighted other areas of intervention to include surveillance and epidemiology, where facilities worth N36million will be provided by the Foundation to support the government’s effort. ccording to her, the ADF will also donate N48million for case management training of health workers.

Speaking at the meeting facilitated by World Bank, the Country Director represented by the Operations Manager Ms Kathleen Whimp identified four thematic areas to tackling the spread of COVID 19. These are: Regular communication with the public, contact tracing, training of volunteers and international co-operations.

Speaking also, the Director, Health Emergency Preparedness and Response of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Dr John Oladejo said some of the challenges, going forwarded include lack of enough isolation centres, contact tracing, training of volunteers, international cooperation, fake news and panic, among others.

Mr Noel Chisaka of the Regional Disease Surveillance System Enhancement Project commended the Aliko Dangote Foundation for the contribution and encouraged others to join in the fight against Covid-19.

Other donors invited to the meeting include: WHO, UNICEF, BMGF, RTSL, EU, USAID, US CDC, DFID, Public Health England, GIZ, JICA, Africa CDC, WAHO, PHI, MTN, Red Cross, IFRC and AFENET.

According to reports, there are a total of 90,936 confirmed cases worldwide – although more than half of those (47,995) have already recovered. The biggest numbers are still by far in mainland China (80,151), followed by South Korea (4,812), Italy (2,036) and Iran (1,501). Japan has 274 confirmed cases, France 191, Germany 165, Spain 120, Singapore 108, US 106, and Hong Kong 100. There are also cases in South America, Africa and Australia.

The total death toll stands at 3,117 with 2,936 of those coming from China. The countries with the next highest numbers are Iran (66), Italy (52) and South Korea (29). There have also been deaths in Japan, the US, France, Australia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand.

It would be recalled that the Aliko Dangote foundation also committed N1billion in the fight against the dreaded Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in Africa, helping to build resilience and strengthen Nigeria’s health system in a manner expected to endure beyond the Ebola crisis period.

The foundation’s support during the Ebola crisis ensured the establishment of the National Ebola Emergency Operations Centre (EEOC) in Yaba, Lagos; provision of 12 units of thermal cameras across Nigeria’s International Airports with training for 160 staff/personnel of the Federal Ministry of Health, Port Health Services Department, on the use of the thermal cameras; provision of W.H.O-certified Personal Protective Equipment, PPEs and comprehensive logistics support for the returnee volunteers on Ebola intervention across countries ravaged by Ebola.

President Muhammadu Buhari had then commended Mr Aliko Dangote for what he described as “remarkable sacrifices in eradicating Ebola virus disease and polio in Nigeria.”

How to know if someone has ignored you on WhatsApp even after disabling blue ticks. We’ve all at one point experienced the frustration and insecurity that comes with feeling ignored by one of our contacts on the instant messaging app, Whatsapp. Although it might seem obvious when one is being ignored, it’s not so easy since WhatsApp introduced new privacy features on the platform that allow users to hide their visibility.

One of the primary features that WhatsApp introduced is the read receipt option which ensures that the receivers can read messages sent to them without alerting beady-eyed senders whether their message was read.

However, there is a trick to work around this feature to know if the message is read even with blue ticks turned off. What’s more? The receiver would not even come to know if you are able to see if the messages you sent are being read or not. So here is a quick and easy way of knowing whether you are being ignored or your paranoid mind is assuming you are being ignored when in fact you are not. Continue Reading.

Warriors’ clash with Algeria in doubt as Algeria records more Coronavirus cases

Warriors’ clash with Algeria in doubt as Algeria records more Coronavirus cases. Zimbabwe is scheduled to travel to Blida for a date against the Desert Foxes on March 23.
The two teams will then meet in the reverse fixture six days later but a venue for that encounter is yet be confirmed since all stadia in the country were deemed unfit to host international matches due to poor infrastructure.

THE 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier between Algeria and Zimbabwe is in danger of being called after the north African country reported more cases of the deadly coronavirus (Covid-19) yesterday.

However, the probability of the first match going ahead is diminishing after the Algeria Health ministry yesterday reported two more cases of the coronavirus, taking the total infections in the North African country to three.
Although the epidemic originated in the Wuhan province in China, it has so far claimed the lives of more than 2 900 with more than 88 000 infections in more than 60 countries globally.

The first coronavirus case in Algeria was reported on February 25, and it was an Italian national, who has since been sent back home.

Yesterday, Algeria health officials announced that a mother and her daughter are now under quarantine in Blida, where the game is supposed to be staged, after they were infected by an 83-year-old relative, who they hosted in their home following a recent visit from France.

The airborne epidemic is highly-contagious and there is a huge chance the Algerian authorities are likely to record more cases in the coming days since these latest patients would have come into contact with more people before the disease was detected.

Although the epidemic has not widely-spread in Africa, there is likelihood the forthcoming Afcon qualifiers including the Desert Foxes and Warriors’ clash in Blida will be affected.

In Italy, the coronavirus has virtually put everyday life and football included on a standstill after the government issued a decree extending the suspension of all sporting events in regions affected by the virus outbreak until March 8.

At the weekend, the top of the table Serie A clash between Juventus and Inter was cancelled while this coming weekend at least six matches will not take place.
On Sunday, Serie A announced that it will hold an emergency meeting tomorrow to “examine the consequences the governmental measures related to coronavirus have had on the fixture list”.

This comes after Inter Milan chief executive Giuseppe Marotta said the season even ran the risk of being unable to finish. “If more matches are called off then, yes, we run that risk,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport when asked if the championship might not finish.

Marotta said that, because some matches had been postponed and others had not, the “balance of the championship has been altered”, adding: “It’s a distorted tournament. You just need to think of injuries and suspensions. And there is the psychological aspect when you look at the standings.”

The total number of people infected with the new coronavirus in Italy has risen to 1 694, 50 percent between Sunday and yesterday. Five more people infected with the virus have died, bringing the deaths in Italy to 34. The Euro 2020 football tournament is in danger because of the coronavirus outbreak as well.

Although Uefa had insisted the tournament which will start in Rome on June 12, will go ahead, the continental football leaders are expected to make a decision at their annual general assembly which commenced yesterday.

The 2020 Olympics Games which are scheduled to be held in Tokyo, Japan from July 24 are also in danger of being cancelled. Although they have reported six deaths and a total of 210 infections, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe took the drastic step last week of closing all the country’s schools for at least a month.

Banks, money transfer agencies clash

Banks, money transfer agencies clash. Bankers Association of Zimbabwe (BAZ) accused money transfer agencies such as EcoCash, One Money and Telecash of enjoying an unfair advantage over financial institutions. Banks and money transfer agencies traded accusations in Parliament on Monday over an uneven playing field.

This came out during a meeting convened by the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Budget and Finance chaired by Chikomba Central MP Cde Felex Mhona (Zanu PF), who had invited banks, money transfer agencies, business and industry to hear their views on how the economy could be improved.

During the meeting, BAZ chief economist Dephine Mazambani said money transfer agencies were regulated by the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe, while banks were regulated by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ), but yet both provided similar services of collecting and dispensing money.

“Money transfer agencies and banks are not regulated the same way,” she said. “We are regulated by the RBZ while they are regulated through Potraz.

“Our regulation terrain is different, but one of the key challenges is that while we are regulated differently, sometimes you see that we offer similar or the same products or services which creates an uneven playing field and sometimes pose a risk to the financial sector, seismic risks. It is the regulatory environment that we are hoping that can be levelled.”

Cassava Smartech Zimbabwe chief executive Mr Eddie Chibi, which owns EcoCash, said Mrs Mazambani’s views were misdirected. “EcoCash is under the direct oversight of RBZ,” he said.

“We are regulated under the National Payment System Act and we make as frequent returns and engagement with the central bank as any other financial services sector in Zimbabwe, including banks.

“For certain services, we are also regulated by the RBZ Financial Intelligence Unit where we submit all our suspicious transactions reports and other general issues which we pick. We have invested in a robust system which tracks transaction in terms of any suspicions of fraud and money laundering which we share with the RBZ on a regular basis.

“In terms of our remittances services, we also get regulated by the Exchange Control division of the RBZ, including the licence which we have for the EcoCash Bureau de Change.”

Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce representative, Mr Archie Dongo called on Government to narrow the gap between cost of subsidised products and the price on the market to avoid arbitrage.

He said while subsidies were meant to address affordability of products and services, there was need to rationalise the cost of the end product and how much the market was charging.

“We fully understand the thrust of subsidising certain products for the benefit of the general populace, particularly in an era of austerity,” said Mr Dongo.

“The demand that has been created by lowering of prices is quite high, but the supply has been reduced or is inadequate, for example, when you use Zupco, the queue will tell a story that not everybody who wants to use Zupco will be able to use it.

“The gap between subsidised price and market price is rather wide. The gap is creating very lucrative arbitrage opportunities for some people.”

Simz Ngema: People think you are shallow when you are pretty

Actress Simz Ngema has shared her thoughts on the other side of “pretty privilege” in the entertainment industry — the unflattering assumption that a pretty face equals no brains or talent.

The actress, who shared her thoughts in an interview for the upcoming Tropika: Island of Treasure show, said in her career, the biggest challenge she’d faced was the need to constantly prove her capabilities.

“The biggest challenge I have faced throughout my career is fitting in. The minute that you are pretty, people think you are shallow and you always have to prove yourself. Unfortunately, the entertainment industry is riddled with shallow people, so it doesn’t make the task any easier. For me, I have had to prove myself time and time again to show the country that I have the brains to accompany the beauty,” she said.

Simz previously shared similar sentiments on social media, after she posted pictures of her new house and car, assets she’d worked hard to acquire. She was praised for making good financial decisions. The actress also spoke about the importance of remaining authentic in an industry that could convince people to change who they were to fit society’s expectations.

Simz Ngema

“I’ve remained authentic. I’ve always been myself. There is so much fakeness in this industry and in society in general. We live in a social media world where people want to show you what they own and present a fabulous life, but no-one wants to show you their challenges or their souls, or even to be vulnerable.

People always relay a message that everything is great, while I am not afraid to admit that my life isn’t perfect. I have gone through some really difficult situations over the past few years and being authentic has helped me to be strong and, eventually, accept fate and move on,” she said. Simz will be fighting it out on Tropika: Island of Treasure for a chance to win some cold, hard cash and cool prizes.

RBZ set to release US$120m for fuel

RBZ set to release US$120m for fuel. The allocation is about 20 per cent higher than the normally required US$100 million a month to help end recent shortages. The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has earmarked US$120 million this month to import around 200 million litres of fuel for the general local currency market, with US$18,5 million letters of credit confirmed for immediate draw-downs.

RBZ manages the foreign currency required for importing fuel while for the general local currency market. Oil import companies buy the forex through their banks to pay the cost of landing the fuel in Zimbabwe, a cost that hovers around US$0,60 a litre.

The energy regulator then sets the maximum retail Zimbabwe dollar price. Those licensed to sell petrol and diesel in foreign currency need free funds to import fuel.  The development follows several weeks of fuel shortages that have seen long queues, a flourishing black market and many kombi operators pushing up their fares.

RBZ Governor Dr John Mangudya said in a statement last night that eight oil companies can start collecting their allocations from the National Oil Infrastructure Company depot today.

Under normal circumstances, he said, the allocated funding, administered by local commercial banks with help from the RBZ, should result in the disappearance of long winding fuel queues and end the shortages.

Allocations of the initial US$18,5 million are US$9,5 million, more than half the total, to Trafigura which supplies Puma, Trek and Genesis service stations, with Total allocated US$2,5 million, IMIG US$1,52 million, Petrotrade US$,1,25 million, Engen US$700 000 and Raven Energy US$500 000.

Dr Mangudya expected that fuel imported using free funds under the direct fuel import facility would significantly improve fuel supplies.

“To ensure that the DFI facility is not abused, the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera) and the bank’s exchange control division are finalising the establishment of a robust system to monitor all filling stations designated by Zera to sell under the DFI facility,” he said.

Dr Mangudya said the US$120 million facilities earmarked for fuel procurement, was more than enough to cover Zimbabwe’s fuel needs, especially for March. Ordinarily, he said, Zimbabwe required US$100 million to pay for fuel imports enough to take through the country for a month.

Dr Mangudya said the US$18,47 million availed under LCs facility can purchase a week’s supply. Energy and Power Development Minister Fortune Chasi said Government was constantly making efforts to improve the supply of fuel in the country.

“Now, we will be able to know for example who accessed what and in what currency they sold that fuel because there are situations where people access our foreign currency on the formal system or formal allocation and they do whatever they want with that fuel without reference to the national interest,” he said.

Minister Chasi said the new framework would enable Government to monitor and tighten the regulatory framework through ZERA. He said while information asymmetry was not the only bottleneck, this latest approach will help deal with some of the malpractices.

Minister Chasi said the environment was characterised by the opacity of information.  Meanwhile, the RBZ has dismissed as malicious reports alleging that it has been printing money to subsidise gold producers, leading to the depreciation of the local currency. This follows a story published by a local weekly citing unnamed sources.

Songstress Yvonne Chaka Chaka is set to join a host of stars in remembering Johnny Clegg with a tribute concert. Speaking to TshisaLIVE ahead of the concert next month, Mam’Yvonne said the tribute concert was befitting of the legend Johnny was.

“The tribute is so befitting and when I was requested to join the list of performers, I didn’t ask why or when I just said, ‘I will do it. It is a befitting tribute to Johnny because of his selflessness. Set to take place on 25 April at the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens in Emmarentia, the concert will feature fellow musicians who will commemorate the life and musical career of Johnny.

A close friend of Johnny’s, Mam’Yvonne said being a part of the tribute meant a great deal to her because of the contributions he made musically.

“Johnny did a lot not only for SA but also for the children of this country. He was always interested in helping to fund raise reading material for children because education plays an important role. He was also a lecturer so he knew the importance of education. When people are educated they are empowered.

 Johnny Clegg

Mam’Yvonne believes Johnny deserves to be honoured and the tribute will make sure his legacy lives on. Whatever he had been doing, whatever he was interested in, whatever he contributed towards, we [who are still alive] should continue to do that. We need to continue his legacy by doing exactly like him.

Mam’Yvonne plans to sing one of Johnny’s song during her set. Maybe I’ll sing Scatterlings Of Africa but it depends because there are lots of artists who also have to choose songs.

The musicians include Prime Circle, Just Jinger, Karen Zoid, Black Coffee, Soweto Gospel Choir, Sipho Hotstix Mabuse, Francois van Coke, Jesse Clegg, Cito from Wonderboom, Zolani Mahola, Majozi, Kurt Darren, Young Mbazo, The Parlotones, Lira, Arno Carstens and Matthew Mole. Money raised from the concert will go toward the Clicks Foundation, supporting ‘The Friends of Johnny Clegg’ charity established with Johnny in December 2018.
