Mshoza’s husband Prince speaks on why he didn’t bury her

The Queen of Kwaito and her Prince was supposed to seal their marriage with a second celebration this month.

Prince believes he and Mshoza were about to reconcile, but the family disagree. But that’s history. The singer, real name Nomasonto Maswanganyi, died two weeks ago, leaving her shattered husband behind.

“We loved each other. We reached some great milestones together. We were building a future,” said Prince.

“Sonto and I met last year at a friend’s place and started dating.”
She was living in Witbank at the time but had money problems, so I moved her and her kids to Dawn Park in Ekurhuleni to live with me.

They got married on 13 February and had a small celebration with family and friends.

Mshoza

“Sonto said she loved me and wanted to marry me. She said I was the only person she truly ever loved.

“We were already planning our wedding this December. We were going to have two ceremonies, one in Soweto and the other in Thokoza.

He said he was supposed to pay lobola but lockdown intervened.
Prince said he and Mshoza were taking a break from one another over the past few months.

“Like any couple we had differences, but we weren’t going to divorce. When Sonto got sick, her sisters Thandi and Seipati got the opportunity to take her to Witbank,” he said.

“They didn’t tell me they’d taken her. I found out some time later. That’s when they started hiding her from me. Nomasonto was going to be fine if she’d been nursed by other people.”

He claimed Mshoza didn’t have a good relationship with her sisters.

“Sonto had a problem with her sisters before she died. They didn’t like her. They said bad things about her. She didn’t want to die a Maswanganyi. They treated her badly.

“Thandi was abusive. Sonto would call friends and ask them to chase Thandi away because she was abusive.

“Thandi said Sonto mustn’t annoy her and asked her where her fans and her fame were, now that she was sick.
He said when he tried to reach out to her, they told him she didn’t want to speak to him and he shouldn’t worry about her health. Prince found out about her death through the media. Everything has been bad since Mshoza’s death,” he said.

Another viral video of Braeside police officer abusing his powers. Here is the Braeside video which is one of the two videos of ZRP officers that have gone viral in this week.

The ZRP does not condone acts of criminality which include corruption by police officers on deployment for various duties. In this regard, the ZRP is investigating a video which went viral on social media of a police officer seen counting some wads of USD notes whilst another is on WhatsApp.

Nyathi said it is not clear if the video is recent or not as the ZRP no longer accepts deposit fines on a cash basis at roadblocks or other checkpoints. He added: Meanwhile, the ZRP has identified the police officer involved in the ZRP Braeside incident which went viral on social media recently.

Investigations are now in full swing with disciplinary measures being put in motion. The ZRP appreciates and applauds the public for raising concern over the two video clips.

ARMED ROBBERY AT CHIVI MUKURU.COM COMPLEX

The Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating an armed robbery case which occurred at N. Richards, Chivi on 30 November 2020 at about 0934 hours when five (5) unknown suspects armed with pistols ambushed Safe-Guard cash-in-transit vehicle delivering cash at Mukuru.com and attacked them.

Labour and Social Welfare Minister: Schools will be closed if COVID-19 gets out of hand. Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister, Paul Mavima has attempted to allay education stakeholders’ fears emanating from a ballooning number of coronavirus cases in schools, saying the government is on top of the situation.

Speaking in an interview before commissioning a new service delivery vehicle fleet bought by Gokwe town council over the weekend, Mavima asserted that the government will not hesitate to shut down schools if the situation threatens to spiral out of control. He said:

If there is a serious problem, the Government will not hesitate to take measures to protect pupils and their teachers because their lives come first. We have had a few worrying cases and we hope the situation remains under control.

Several schools across the country have recorded worrying numbers of COVID-19 cases at a time when Grade Seven, Ordinary and Advanced Level candidates commence examinations this week.

John Tallach High School in Ntabazinduna, Matabeleland North Province, has recorded over 100 coronavirus cases, Chinhoyi High School in Mashonaland West Province now has 88 and Mtshabezi High School in Matabeleland South Province has registered 15 cases.

Xenophobic attacks resurface in Sout Africa

Xenophobic attacks resurface in Sout Africa. They called upon the government of that country to take deterrent measures to stop criminal activities. Yesterday, ADGN president Vusumuzi Sibanda said the renewed attacks and burning of trucks by seemingly unknown individuals had become disconcerting in SA.

The African Diaspora Global Network (ADGN) and Migrants Workers’ Association-SA (MWA-SA), organisations led by Zimbabweans in South Africa have expressed concern over the renewed attacks and burning of trucks driven by foreign nationals in that country.

“We are aware that ministerial task teams were set up to deal with grievances from various groups, but this did not resolve the problem,” he said.

“Many of the drivers have been attacked, not because they have no proper permits. The attackers do not request for permits before attacking. They are attacked for merely being migrants or if the company is perceived to be employing migrant drivers irrespective of their status in the country.”

He added: “It would help to hear that the government has taken a position that any such attackers will be arrested and organisations known to be behind such acts will be held accountable.

“We plead with President of SA (Cyril Ramaphosa) as the chair of the African Union to show that the values of ubuntu, ‘I am because you are’ are embedded in the African humanness and make us the African people to all abide by them.”

On the same note MWA-SA chairperson, Butholezwe Nyathi, called on all migrants to organise themselves to mitigate the effects of these disturbances.

“People should not wait until there is a situation like these attacks. They should be proactive in coming up with lasting solutions that will create harmony among locals and migrants through projects like migrant skills transfer to locals,” he said.

Warriors and Azam FC striker Prince Dube out for two months. Dube fractured his left-hand ulnar bone in the 1-0 defeat to Young Africans last Wednesday when he had only played 15 minutes. Warriors and Tanzanian side Azam FC striker Prince Dube expect to be sidelined for up to two months ahead of surgery in South Africa has suffered a hand injury.

The former Highlanders striker left Tanzania for South Africa on Sunday where he is under the care of specialist surgeon Robert Nicolas at the Vincent Pallotti Hospital in Cape Town.

Speaking from South Africa yesterday, Dube, who will be operated on tomorrow, said the orthopaedic surgeon told him that he would be out of action for six to eight weeks.

“I’m undergoing surgery on Thursday (tomorrow). I flew into South Africa on Sunday and the doctor has said I will be out of action for anything between six to eight weeks. I’m just hoping the operation will be successful. I will be fine,” Dube said.

Azam confirmed Dube’s injury last week and that he would be treated in South Africa at Vincent Pallotti Hospital where they take all their players who need specialist attention.

On arrival in Tanzania in August, Dube announced his presence in the Vodacom Premier League with a bang and has so far scored six goals in 13 matches with Azam perched on position two on the log table with 26 points, five behind Young Africans.

The striker has been in top form for his club after hitting the ground running following his move from Highlanders.

A few weeks ago, he came from the bench to salvage a crucial point for the Warriors against Algeria at the National Sports Stadium in a Group H Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Zimra officials test positive to Covid-19 at Beitbridge border post

Zimra officials test positive to Covid-19 at Beitbridge border post. The tests are part of strict and tight health management measures the Government employed to ensure the safety of travellers and its workers under the new border set up.

The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) is streamlining operation at Beitbridge where eight of its employees tested positive for Covid-19.

Everyone leaving or entering the country through Beitbridge is being thoroughly screened at the entrance of the border arena and all buildings. Beitbridge, Plumtree, Forbes, Chirundu, and Victoria Falls land borders re-opened to passenger traffic on Tuesday morning.

As a precautionary measure, towards the re-opening, the Ministry of Health and Child Care tested all border workers to ascertain the exact number of those fit for duty.

In a statement today, Zimra said it was taking the necessary precautionary steps, as guided by World Health Organisation with the assistance of the Ministry of Health and Childcare to ensure the safety of its workers and the travelling public.

“ZIMRA is very aware that due to the unique location of our offices and stations coupled with the essential nature of the services we provide there is a need to remain vigilant in observing and practising procedures that reduce exposure to COVID-19.

In order to safeguard employees, clients, and the public, Zimra continues to implement guidelines from the World Health Organisation and the Ministry of Health and Childcare in reducing the impact of the COVID 19 threat to operations and human life,” said the revenue collector.

All stakeholders at Beitbridge have had tests done as well as contact tracing and our staff continues to offer essential services under Covid-19 protocols.

Some of the steps taken include; testing contacts of all suspected Covid-19 cases and that it had immediately closed some offices for disinfection. “The re-opening of disinfected offices will be done with the assistance and guidance of the relevant local medical authorities.

“Where practical Zimra stations and offices maintain critical skeleton staff. In addition, staff are being provided with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and sanitisers; and services are, as much as possible, being offered to clients/agents via electronic means” said the statement.

Zimra said it was encouraging travellers to use clearance methods of goods which minimise human interface between its employees and clients. In addition, all travellers importing dutiable goods must pre-clear and pre-pay before arriving at the border to reduce crowding and the time spent at border posts.

“As a mitigating measure against the spread of COVID-19 virus, clients are encouraged to access, utilise the available ZIMRA e-service facilities on www.efiling.zimra.co.zw or www.zimra.co.zw and reduce the risks associated with travelling or handling physical documents,” said the revenue collector.

The authority also called on people to prioritise public health at all ports of entry.  Meanwhile, ninety-five new Covid-19 cases were recorded today, as cases continue to rise.

However, no death was reported in the last 24 hours. The rise in cases has left the seven-day rolling average for new cases at 104. Yesterday, 1 029 PCR tests were done, implying a positivity rate of 9,2 percent.

A daily Covid-19 update released by the Ministry of Health and Child Care last night shows that all the 95 cases are local transmissions. The spate of new cases recorded in the last seven days has left active cases at 1 209. As of yesterday, Zimbabwe has recorded 10 129 cases, 8 643 recoveries and 277 deaths.

The government continues to implore citizens to observe guidelines aimed at containing the spread of Covid-19, which include wearing of face masks in public, maintaining social distance, washing hands with soap or ash and sanitising, among others.

South Africa has now surpassed 780 000 cases and has the highest cases and deaths per capita in the SADC region.

Frank Buyanga takes SARS to court

Frank Buyanga takes SARS to court. The Times Live reports that the goods were attached during a raid in October on the Hyde Park, Johannesburg, house of Sadiqi’s girlfriend, Melinda Busi Dube.

This was revealed in papers filed at the Pretoria high court by Sadiqi who lives in Sandton in Johannesburg.

Zimbabwean businessman Frank Buyanga Sadiqi is taking the SA Revenue Service (Sars) to court, claiming it confiscated Kruger gold coins worth an estimated R600m, (about USD40m) personal jewellery, watches and cellphones from him.

He claims: “Sars unlawfully, without justification and without my permission and against my protests seized from me and dispossessed me of gold (Kruger) coins that I had with me at the time … conservatively estimated, the gold coins that were stolen from my possession are valued at over R600m.”

According to court papers, the Sars forfeiture unit raided Dube’s house on October 26. Dube filed a police report against Sars and later took the revenue service to court. Now Sadiqi has approached the high court to be included in Dube’s case because he claims the forfeited gold belongs to him.

Through his lawyers, William Wilcock Inc., Buyanga claimed he tried in vain to arrange a meeting with Sars and be given details as to what the revenue collector needed to clear up the matter.

“My legal representatives, have on no less than two occasions (October 28 2020 and November 4 2020) officially extended written invitations to the officials of Sars to meet with their investigators and to address and answer all questions they might have,” he said in court papers. Sars is yet to respond in court.

President Mnangagwa’s vul’gate song breaks social media: Audio. The lyrics translated are essential, “Here come the ‘stocko’ / John go open the gate,” with ‘stocko’ meaning party girls.

Mapara A Jazz’s ‘John Vuli Gate’, featuring Ntosh Gazi and Calano, sparked the #JohnVuliGate dance challenge in October – think robotic, slow-motion twerk followed by elaborate steps.

The trend was sparked when a group of girls celebrating their friend’s birthday at a garage and jamming to the song went viral. It went from a WhatsApp status to the worldwide web, being reacted to globally on YouTube, and it secured the girls gigs and brand endorsements.

Now local musicians have released a Mnangagwa vul’gate song.

Unexpected low traffic at Beitbridge border post

Unexpected low traffic at Beitbridge border post. The move is informed by the events of yesterday where traffic was low for the better part of the morning and start peaking at the end of the day when news started filtering that the land borders had officially opened.

Zimbabwe and South Africa have started working on a plan to absorb increased human traffic that is expected to pass through from Beitbridge Border Post this week.

Activity at was very low at Beitbridge yesterday with only 200 people who fall outside the commercial traffic passing through between 6 am and 8 am. This was attributed to the fact that travellers adopted a wait and see attitude.

They reportedly took a cue from a false start that saw them being turned away at the same port of entry when South Africa re-opened its borders to passenger traffic on 1 October without prior consultation with Zimbabwe.

In addition, some travellers said the Covid-19 testing fees were prohibitive and hence they we’re waiting for an alternative way with relatively cheaper prices. Security has been tightened at all exit and entry points to the border where many people without valid or without documents at all were being turned away.

Traffic has been separated into heavy-duty vehicles, light commercial, light vehicles, buses and pedestrians. Furthermore, hand washing basins and footbaths and automated thermometers have been put at most buildings’ entrances.

The Assistant Regional Immigration officer-in-charge of Beitbridge, Mr Nqobile Ncube said they were liaising with all the inter border agencies to maintain a seamless passage for travellers under the new normal.

“Contrary to our expectations, there was not much traffic and there are reasons why it was like this. First, the travelling public wanted to be very sure we are open and how we are handling the Covid-19 certificate component,” he said.

“I would like to think that many people wanted to make sure we’re officially opened before they may start acquiring the certificates with a 48 hours validity.

“We are hearing news from other towns that people are planning to travel from tomorrow going forward and we have been liaising with our colleagues in South Africa to ensure we are not found wanting”.

Drama as CID team investigating ED ally arrested

Drama as CID team investigating ED ally arrested. Alleged Covid-19 procurement corruption mastermind Delish Nguwaya could walk free after criminal proceedings against him all but collapsed on Tuesday when a court removed him from remand.

Magistrate Ngoni Nduna said prosecutors had failed to provide cogent reasons why the Drax International country representative, an associate of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s twin sons Shaun and Collins, should be further remanded to January 29 next year.

Prosecutors will now proceed by way of summons, but lawyers say cases rarely get revived after a suspect is removed from remand.

Nguwaya’s company was irregularly awarded Covid-19 supply contracts worth over US$60 million after the sacked former health minister Obadiah Moyo leaned on officials to sign off on the contracts, which the ministry of finance later admitted carried inflated prices.

The 36-year-old had already appeared 10 times in court charged with two counts of fraud, but prosecutors repeatedly indicated that they needed to conduct extra-territorial investigations.

ZimLive revealed in April how Drax International, which was not on a Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe list of approved government suppliers, won itself huge contracts to supply drugs and medical devices to NatPharm, the state-owned pharmaceutical company. The contracts were not subjected to a tender process.

The company also won tenders as Papi Pharma and Drax SAGL. Nguwaya and Albanian national Ilir Dedja were behind the three companies, which have bank accounts in Hungary and the Seychelles.

Hungary froze a US$2 million payment which landed in the bank account of Drax International, just two weeks after the company was registered in the central European country. Interpol was activated, which in turn contacted the Zimbabwe Republic Police which responded by arresting Nguwaya, Moyo and NatPharm executives while issuing an arrest warrant for Dedja.

But even as the arrests were being made, Zimbabweans questioned whether there was a commitment to successfully prosecute Nguwaya, who has been a guest of the Mnangagwas at dinner parties and joined first lady Auxillia Mnangagwa on a trip to China.

Those doubts were only heightened when a systematic purge was unleashed, targeting all the police officers involved in the Drax investigation.

Investigating officer Superintendent Naboth Nyachega, who was also the liaison person with Interpol, was arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) in July and charged with criminal abuse of office and bribery over claims he was given a housing stand by corrupt Harare City Council officials to induce him to abandon a corruption probe into the allocation of housing stands worth US$1 million in Kuwadzana suburb.

His boss, Assistant Commissioner Obeylaw Moyo, who okayed Nguwaya’s arrest, was also arrested on similar charges. Moyo was in charge of the Criminal Investigations Department’s Commercial Crimes Unit, which headed the investigation into Drax.

Police sources told ZimLive that days after the CID arrested Nguwaya in June, a team of detectives led by Moyo were summoned to a meeting with the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission chairperson Loice Matanda-Moyo who was reportedly “upset”.

“They wanted to arrest Nguwaya in a certain way,” a CID detective familiar with the investigation said. “Nguwaya even challenged us on why we were arresting him when he had already made concessions with ZACC on how and when they were to arrest him. Matanda-Moyo gave us a third degree on why we had arrested Nguwaya. It was hell.”

ZACC spokesman John Makamure insisted “such a meeting never took place”, adding: “There is no conflict between ZACC and ZRP.”

Police investigators believe the arrest of Nyachega in particular, followed by his suspension, severely handicapped the investigation.

Nyachega, ZimLive understands, had written to Interpol to hold onto the US$2 million paid into the bank account in Hungary.

“To get the money in Hungary released, two things had to happen. The police officers heading the investigation had to be shunted out of the way so that Interpol is given a new liaison, and Nguwaya had to beat the charges. Both processes have happened and nothing stops them now from withdrawing that money,” a senior police source said.

Nguwaya told this website he had no hand in the arrest of the two officers.

He protested: “Why can’t you just leave me alone? What have I done against you? You seriously cannot blame me for the arrests of police officers over corruption relating to housing stands. I have no authority to direct arrests.”
